This is the same solution as for
These two solutions go together really well and all the tips apply to both.
I struggled a long time through the game not really knowing how to make money.. then did some looking, and this solution is the result of what I found! Tons of money and ships..
You don't have to have 10 million credits at once, and if you start capturing ships as detailed, you'll have this after capturing 3 Cruisers most likely! If not, quite soon.
Basically, this link was the gold:
http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/topic/4658-making/I'm copying this paragraph as it puts it extremely well--posted by Technocrati at that link above.
""Set-up: Always pick the ship with the biggest troop count. (My path was starter < Wolverine < Abeja < (enough creds to skip destroyer) < Hydra. I don't really worry about transporter size... you can just keep sending more troops within seconds anyway. For perks, obviously get troop efficiency capped first. Look for officers that add to troop efficiency. If you find stations that sell viral torps, stock up... they really help if you are making an attempt on an equal size or bigger crew.""
That was GOLD!
I didn't understand several things from the start of the game that might be in the Tutorial's, which I never did..
1. Capturing ships gains a LOT of money!
2. When capturing a ship, you can only transport a limited number of troops!
3. When capturing a ship, if you shoot it's shield and hull down more than 50%, your troops have a MUCH better chance of capturing!
4. Get the upgrades for your troopers!(there is a perk, and there is a Navigation officer worth getting--you can find where on the wikia for this game)
5. When you have the starter ship, the best thing you can probably do is work for enough money to buy the Wolverine... then you can start capturing ships.
6. Start capturing ships in the Trinity region at first as they are much easier there!
7. Once I started trying to capture ships, I made sure to max my transporter capacity for the best chance to capture.
8. When capturing very high level ships like Dreadnaughts by which point I was getting a TON of money, I started using Viral Torpedoes($500k each) and they helped a LOT! I would send the Torpedo in when they were below 50% health, then finally send in my troops.
9. Buy a license for an area at a station if it gives you better prices!! I think it doubles the amount you make from selling ships. Don't sell a ship if it's not in an area where you don't have a trade license advantage!
10. I don't know if there's a limit on your garage size, and there's no cost to switch to a different ship or store your ships. Just sell the really pricey prizes and keep the really cheap ones for your achievement!
11. When capturing a ship, figure on losing about 10-15 troops after the ship has no troopers left. So if you have 50 and they have 30, you should be ok, but if you have 30 and they have 30, you probably won't succeed!
12. At the low level focus only on Gunships, then with the Wolverine you can start expanding to larger ships. You can find all the stations where the ships you want are sold--the wikia has it listed for each ship of you click on them.
13. Stay close to stations, and save/reload whenever they run out of troopers--you get more troopers and more missions right away!

I really enjoy this game and I think the above tips will help anyone get going into it really easily. I got stuck in the story because my ship wasn't strong enough so found out everything I've written up here.
I also just discovered a space station called Spire that has ALL the licenses available for purchase!! At least, it had somewhere around 50 available, so if you want to save some time and spend a lot of money for future savings/profits, go to Spire in Sector 94. That's south of Planet Hogosha, the Sanctuary Faction.
