Essentially, the premise of the game is as follows: A relentless gang of the undead are trying to cross your lawn and make their way into your house. Why? To eat your brains, of course. In order for you to stop them, you must plant a number of flowers, bushes, trees and other foliage that can take down these zombies in a number of humorous ways: decapitating them, blowing them into black powder (think Daffy Duck) or running over them with a lawnmower. The game looks really stunning in HD and the bush where the zombies come from makes it a bit more challenging.

It might sound like a simple and straightforward concept, but you must select from a number of plants to use (each with a different way to take down the enemies) and wait until you can buy more using collected resources (such as sunrays). Then you need to decide where to plant them along the paths (closer to the road or closer to home?) and which paths should you cover first so you’re not surprised by a flesh-eating visitor at your door. This is all easier said than done, as there are many encroaching zombies who will eat your plants given the chance, rendering them useless.

Plus, there are two dozen different kinds of zombies, including ones that can jump over your bomb plants or man-eating Venus Flytraps, and others that wear mining helmets to resist damage or hold screen doors like a shield.

Pros:
CRAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZY DAVE! Incredibly addictive. Refreshingly unique and surprisingly deep game. Great sense of humor. Multiple game modes and mini-games. Attractive graphics and good music.
Cons:
Can get quite hard. Gameplay not as mainstream as some other PopCap games. Some might not appreciate comic violence

Although, for the benefit of people who are looking @ this to help decide whether to buy or not, & maybe interested by the fact it has vs & co-op game modes (as I was - thinking "great, I can play this with m8's over LIVE") - THIS GAME HAS NO LIVE FUNCTIONALITY! The multiplayer game modes are local only. You can't even view your friends houses in the leaderboards section unless they're actually playing at the time. A massively poor omission in an otherwise excellent game.
WookieKiller247 Great game, my only gripe w/ the review is you didn't mention Crazy Dave....b/c HE'S CRAZY!!!!! lol

DUSTiN I'm not too mad about not having Live multiplayer honestly. I loved the iPod version of the game and still play it, and it didn't have any kind of multiplayer. But anyways, nice review, thumbs up! :D

MuscularTea Multiplayer might be a kind of a downer but the puzzles and mini games are fun for sure. maybe mention the fact that most achievements are due to playing for a while over a long period of time but good review and it definitly is better in HD just wish I had a nice tv to play it on. :/

Hey Retto Great review, it sounds like a good game, I would like to pick it up. The only that I found odd about your review is that in the cons you said "Can get quite hard". Don't you think that a strategic game like this should be challenging. Great review tho, im going to have to pick it up,

NINja277 I found the review too short considering how much this game has to offer . This is easily one of the best values on XBL and things like mentioning Crazzzzy Dave ( granted i realize you added this after the initial post due to a comment) but had i not already played the game i would not have any idea why mentioning crazy Dave is a pro. Since the character is mentioned i felt a little backstory is warranted .

You mention the variety of zombies but you don't tell me as a reader how their differences effect the games strategy. Such as the miners you mention but you don't say that they dig under your plants rendering most of them useless and attack the plants from the rear , or the bungee zombies who drop out of the sky and steal plants or the disco zombie who calls minions to dance with him.

I realize its impossible to please everyone and some I'm sure enjoy your brief overview of a great game so I'm Sorry i gave you a negative but i thought i should comment because i wish everyone commented who gave negatives so you could get some feedback , if its any consolation i thought the little that was written was very good.

Pedle Zelnip Good review, but one very significant con is that this game is massively grindy. It's funny for the first few rounds of adventure mode, then gets very repetitive, and then after beating adventure mode (which is upwards of 10 hours to finish), you then get to grind cash trying to build that damn tree.

It's fun, has great humour, but there's about 2 hours of content stretched over about 20 hours of gameplay here.

Zombie Deej Haha, sad panda!!

Thanks for the information, I'm buying this right now. What I would ask though (and somebody answered this in the comments so it doesn't matter now) is that you include a synopsis/evaluation of the achievements, seeing as this is an achievement based site/community.

But like I said, good review, told me what I needed to know, and convinced me to go for it. (it's slashed down to 600points right now)

I like the fact ninja277 commented. Most negative-voters just neg and run. Good criticism!

Albino Bob 325 How are the achievements? I would recommend putting headers like pros: and cons: in bold

GOREZODD Least challenging castle defense game ever. Had to retry 5-9 once, other than that it was a cake walk. Glad it was free.
