Opposite of what I've seen recommended, I suggest getting to the lowest point possible in the map and hiding. Buildings can be collapsed and draw you back into a fight you don't want to risk running away from. Some levels have jump pads around the pit of the map that don't see much activity and you can easily navigate around the island from down there in case enemies happen to get too close.
Territories is also recommended as the game type because more players will be focused on those spots, so there's less interest in spotting players off the beaten path. Doing this in a game where your team has fewer player will likely help the match end sooner, which improves your odds of not being accidentally discovered.
