I suggest you play as much of this without a guide as you can without ruining the story.

That being said, this guide is absolutely incredible and highly recommended:
http://lanoire.wikia.com/wiki/Cases

(Edit: The original guide disappeared. Wikia.com is usually a great go-to place for guides though, and this guide is as good as the original one that I posted.)

I found that I could miss one clue or one conversation topic and still get 5 stars. On one case I missed one of each and only got 4 stars, and had to replay that case. Also, let your partner drive *everywhere* (hold Y when you get to a car instead of just pressing Y to get into the car) so that you minimize property damage. I found that property damage caused during chases seemed to not penalize you quite so much.

As far as I know, dying or failing specific parts of a mission do not affect the 5-star rating. It appears that the 5-star rating is primarily based on your detective work rather than surviving, with penalties for property damage. Let your partner do all the driving and you can avoid mishaps in traffic. (I also found that I wasn't penalized, if at all, for accidents during high-speed chases. I have no idea what the threshold for losing a star for property damage is.)

You do not need to get 5 stars on your first run through. You can go back and replay the cases in which you got a lower score.

Enjoy!
Calex dEUS Don't agree with the game being fantastic but the guide is , cheers.

summan3n I actually missed 2 clues in a case " The Red Lipstick Murder" and still got a 5 star rating.

Timeless Magic I 5 starred all cases up to 'Different Kind of War' and it popped before I started it...
Posted by Timeless Magic on 26 May 11 at 01:10
Sashamorning Yep, it pops before A Different Kind of War, but I kinda didn't want to mention that part, for spoiler reasons.

slacker322 Another useful piece of information I have found is that you can cause at least $1,500 worth of damage. I tend to drive everywhere and on two separate occasions caused that much damage and still received 5 stars. Good guide/link.

Devious Jedi Does this have to be done on 1 playthrough or can you go to the main menu and replay cases and get the cheevo
Posted by Devious Jedi on 30 May 11 at 11:35
TheHotan just something to add. you can die whilst working the case and it doesn't stop you getting 5 stars
Posted by TheHotan on 30 May 11 at 12:49
Dr Bullard I personally played through the whole game normally, because i agree it is a fantastic game. Then i went back through replaying cases to get 5 starts it still works
Posted by Dr Bullard on 30 May 11 at 16:50
Sashamorning I just made a note of that. I got 4 stars on one case and had to redo it, so I already knew that it worked. Thanks for mentioning it!

LessrOf2Weevils Nothing wrong with the guide, but this achievement is not that hard to get without it considering you get a fresh set of five intuition points when you restart a case. Here's a couple of other tips.

1. If trying to decide between a doubt and a lie, hit the left bumper and take a look at the percent who answered correctly after using an intuition point (this doesn't cost anything). If it is in the high 90s, almost guaranteed it's doubt. If it's lower, it's likely a lie. If it's below 35% or so, it's almost guaranteed to be a lie, but you might want to use an intuition point and select "remove a response" because it will also remove many of the clues you have to pick from too. If the percent is very low, it is obviously not very clear what evidence you should use.

The reason a very high percentage rules out a lie is because a lie requires two responses, first to say it is a lie and second to pick the evidence. The likelihood of 95+% of players doing this correctly is quite small.

2. The game saves before most interviews. If you mess up, it isn't a biggie to quit and simply reload your game.

Santonium Have to agree, the game is fantastic! Can't stop playing it. can't wait for the future DLC this month!

I did notice that on the traffic case "The Fallen Idol" i answered every question right and found every clue but did have some property damage and ended the case with 4 stars, so i'm guessing that the car damage is effecting the outcome.

ThunderPeel2001 It's worth mentioning that you can skip action sequences and still get five stars, too.

Th3Freak55 Do DLC missions count towards this achievement?

Sashamorning No. This is just for the main game.

Wezol TSA Holy shhhoot! It only took me 4 tries to get "The White Shoe Slaying" down 5* with a guide f-ing glitched game, you have to do everything so perfect and you can't back up you have to start all over again!!!! Ahhh

GammyGreenGiant i beg people not to use guide on their first play through. It will totally ruin the game for you
Posted by GammyGreenGiant on 14 Oct 11 at 23:54
klobeast Is there a way in-game to determine how many stars you got on your first playthrough of each mission? Maybe I'm being dense but I can't find it.
Posted by klobeast on 29 Feb 12 at 07:52
Sashamorning If I remember correctly, it shows you on the mission select screen, but I'm not sure.

Draco719 Dead link :(
Posted by Draco719 on 21 Mar 12 at 02:04
Sashamorning Yikes! That was a great guide. I changed the link to the one on wikia.com. Wikia usually has great guides for big games, like Mass Effect and Skyrim, but when I first posted this solution the Wikia guide wasn't as good as the other one.
