Before you can actually meet somebody, you'll need to go to the Temple of Mara in Riften and inform yourself about marriage at the local priest, Maramal. On rare ocassions, he can be found in the Bee and Barb tavern, also in Riften, but since he lives in the temple, that is your best bet to find him.

After asking about the temple and informing yourself about marriage, you will be able to buy a necklace for 200 gold that shows you're 'available'.

Buy and wear the necklace, and find yourself a partner. Your own race and gender does not impact the choices you can make.

A full list with name, race, gender, occupation and required quest/action can be found here:
http://www.realsg.com/2011/11/guide-skyrim-marriage-how-to-a...

All credit goes to Anthony Accinelli who created the list.

After choosing your partner, head back to the temple and arrange your wedding with Maramal. Wait for a day, but NOT inside the temple, and re-enter to attend your marriage.

The achievement will unlock after saying 'I do'.
TyhonpholusDO NOT wait inside the temple. It tottaly glitched for me and she never appeared. I found Ysolda as well. If anyone finds someone else please let me know.

Skuller 1O1MARAMAL IS IN THE BEE AND THE BARB NOT THE TEMPLE FIRST, YOU HAVE TO TALK TO HIM AND THEN HE'LL APPEAR AT THE TEMPLE
Posted by Skuller 1O1 on 12 Nov 11 at 07:59
Fatal RusHHe sometimes preaches in the Bee and Barb, but you do not have to speak to him to get him inside the temple. I haven't, and so did many others.

Posted by sC x BoOgEyMaN on 12 Nov 11 at 18:50
Fatal RusHYou first need to ask him some questions and let him know you're interested in marriage before you can buy the amulet.

ChuckieJAnybody think this is way too easy? Lame. Since when is it harder to make a small weapon than to get married?

THE IRISHMAN 35I think i was late for my own wedding. i waited outside the temple for 24hrs went back in and everyone got mad at me and told me to get out of the temple.

Great PuhweehwaSame thing here. No matter where I wait, I always fail. I spent an hour trying over and over to not have her and the rest of the wedding party get mad at me and tell me to get out of the temple.
First I waited in the temple. Then I reloaded and waited just outside the temple. Then I tried again and waited on the other side of town.
So, my opinion on marraige is totally biased now. =]

s1nTh23About the NOT waiting inside thing... I waited inside and Mjoll was with me as she was my follower at the time... nothing happened. I then left and waited one hour outside to see if it would change anything, then dismissed her as my follower and she said she was going to go prepare, then it said attend your wedding, then it said FAILED, all within a matter of two seconds. WEAK! Point being, DISMISS your follower if that's who you choose to marry.

Albert ScaleI had the problem that paddycfc22 mentions above. The corpse of the companion I sacrificed for a Daedric artifact appeared in the church and killed my wedding (on final act of revenge on his part I guess). To fix it I grabbed another companion, patched things up with my wife to be and rearranged the wedding. After that it all went smoothly :-)

oXI deviant IXoi don't know if it works with everyone or not, but to answer the gender question... my female character married Ysolda. dunno if you're able to get everyone on the list to marry you, but Ysolda (at least) is bi.
Posted by oXI deviant IXo on 29 Nov 11 at 01:53
keyhole69A lot of friends that have been playing as males have said that other male characters often ask to marry them. So I guess a lot of the characters are bi.

HighT3chR3dn3ckI'm a Kajit, and I can't seem to find anyone to propose to... can you do cross species marriage?
Posted by HighT3chR3dn3ck on 03 Dec 11 at 07:28
SunsaintDC@HighT3chR3dn3ck yes, you can. I also picked a khajiit, and there isnt a single other khajiit in the game that can be married. You can marry any race, and either gender for that matter.
Posted by SunsaintDC on 13 Dec 11 at 03:00
Shinwasha@HighT3chR3dn3ck I had the same problem. The problem was that I already had an amulet of mara before I spoke to the priest and I couldn't buy one from him. I loaded an earlier save without and one and bought it from him and had no problem.

Dizzy DomesI notice a lot of people missing their wedding. When I did this achievement, I got to the temple and said I was getting married. They told me the wedding was the next day from dawn to dusk. It was 11PM so I waited outside until 8AM (9 hours) and got with no problem. You may want to change it to say "Wait until the next day" rather than "Wait for a day". Thumbs up for a great guide.

SvingXDI waited inside the temple and it all went fine, i think they had already started the ceremony around me, obv i must have got lucky.

Brad HKI had an issue that matched those above who said they entered and the people in the church "got mad" and the wedding failed. For me, there was a thief inside the church. None of the priests attack him, but he's running around in there and when warrior types enter the church they attack him, ruining your wedding. To solve, I killed the thief when I went to set up my wedding. Then went outside, waited for tomorrow and when I went in this time wedding went off without a hitch.

Hope that helps

Pa1ppiAnother good list http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Marriage

SpoolinChaosSo I couldn't buy the amulet from him, as I already had it in my inventory. I got it from some previous quest as the item wasn't stolen, but I don't remember which quest, I went straight to the person I wanted to marry, she said yeah, and that was that. So you don't have to buy it from him if you've gotten it from somewhere else.
