EDIT: Sheesh, I thought I updated this a LOONNGGG time ago. Must've gotten lost after the site crash... or I just completely forgot lol.

The shooting gallery to get this achievement is in Chapter 9.

Thanks to blomphil2 for suggesting to put this in my solution and thanks to NinjaKUIK for pointing out that it's in Chapter 9!

Red silhouettes are the targets you shoot, don't shoot the blue silhouettes. There are 5 stages, each getting progressively faster paced and each stage give a reward when completed.

The main issue in the shooting range is line of sight. There is none unless you back off the wall where you start the shooting range minigame. Backing off the wall narrows your targeting reticule thus making it more difficult to hit the targets. What we want to do is keep the target reticule to cover as wide of an area as we can.

First, IMO, the Plasma Cutter in horizontal firing mode is the best weapon for this minigame. It's steady, accurate, has a nice rate of fire, decent width of fire and gives you precise control. It's the jack of all trades where as the others are good for specific situations.

So, pull your Plasma Cutter out and look for the holographic start button in the middle of the barrier of the shooting range. If you'll look closely, you'll notice it's broken up into three sections:
| Left|Middle|Right*|

What you want to do is place Isaac on the right of that small partition on the right. Activate the minigame and then move as far to the right side as you can and make sure you're against the barrier. See the corner where the "*" is by the "t" on the word "Right" in the diagram above? That's where you want Isaac.

What this does is gives you a clean line of fire. The in-game follow-camera (or chase-camera, which ever you want to call it) adjusts closer to Isaac because you're in a corner. It's almost like firing in first-person mode.

Try to keep your target reticule aimed slightly right of where the middle target pops up. Your target reticule will be a bit cockeyed, and it's a bit easier to target to the extreme left than it is the extreme right and aiming slightly right of center compensates for this so panning time is roughly equal. On stage 5, the targets move very fast, so you're not going to get your aim to middle. The point of me pointing this out is that is where you want to start moving your reticule as soon as you hit a target.

On stage 5, it took me 4 tries to get perfect using this method. The only issues I had was when I had a target in front left and the next one was back right. If this happens to you, don't worry if you don't get it because the targets pop up randomly. The next round you may not have to from one extreme to the other.

Practice a few times all the way through stage 5 even if you miss a target. It doesn't take much longer to just finish the round than it does to back away to reset the minigame. So just stick it out and good luck.

Hope this helps save someone a headache.
Distilled84 Got it in two tries using this method. Thank you, well written solution.

Shinerbock88 Awesome, glad to hear it helped and congrats on the achievement. It definitely makes writing solutions worthwhile when I hear it's helped someone out! Good luck on the rest of the game. It's an amazing game IMO.

Shinerbock88 Very nice, congrats on the achievement and glad to hear the solution helped out!

blomphil2 You should just add to the very beginning what chapter it's in and where it's located.

Shinerbock88 D'oh! That might help, huh? lol. Thx, Phil. I updated it.

Neko Pounce Btw. It's in the armory.

olde fortran 77 When he says "move as far to the right side as you can", believe it. I had to press the stick all the way to the right to get as far as possible to the right to get that last level.

WillJoj17 Thanks for the tip of moving to the far right. Had to redo level 5 a number of times as the random order kept popping extreme right and left back and forth. Finally got a "less extreme" random pop up.

Thanks again!

ThrillaGnat Definitely move to the far right. I wasn't moving far enough right and kept missing the 5th level by one cause Issac's head kept blocking the left side of the range. Moving all the way to the right does almost put you in first person and gives you a better view of the entire range, unobstructed. Great solution!

Shinerbock88 Thanks, folks! Glad it solution helped! This is another one of those achievements that can beat on your last nerve hehe.

ljp0390 What chapter do you get this in?
Posted by ljp0390 on 15 Jun 11 at 10:25
Nynjahh @ljp0390: its in chapter 9

Shinerbock88 Thx for answering, NinjaKUIK. That's something I should've added when I initially wrote the solution hehe. Once I get back to my pc at home I'll edit my solution and tell where the chapter is and give you credit for pointing it out. Thx again, mang!

RKangel Far right is definitely the way to go. I didn't have any luck with the plasma cutter though so I tried the pulse rifle. It took a couple tries not to shoot the blues, but ful auto and no reloads cut out the actual aiming part and I got it in two tries with the far right method. Spray and pray.

Shinerbock88 Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. If you're playing on Impossible Mode and trying for the Tier 3 Engineer achievement, be sure to check out my solution for it (it's very long, but it's for the entire game on Impossible Mode). Here's a link:

You may have to click on "Other Solutions" at the bottom of the page as my solution is the second highest rated. My solution os for people that want to complete Impossible with no DLC or codes. SkillfullMind has a good solution if you want to go the DLC and code route. Either way, good luck if you decide to tackle it!

Sir McChinger I found the pulse rifle to be very effective because of the fact that you can kind of prefire your targets instead of having to be very accruate with the plasma cutter, it just helps people that arn't that aquainted with the aiming system in dead space

IRONSAM96 Thanks! I got it on the third try using a plasma cutter (since I'm going after the One Gun achievement). I would have got it the first try except I accidentally hit a blue target, so I got a score of 1900 ... then I got frustrated and got a score of 1800 ... and finally once I relaxed I popped 2000, no problem.
Posted by IRONSAM96 on 21 Jan 13 at 22:22
Shinerbock88 @Church I actually agree with that. I think it's just a lot of people don't use the pulse rifle much in DS. It's definitely an under rated weapon, but I can see your points about using it at the firing range.

@IRONSAM Congrats on the achievement! That's pretty awesome you could've got it on the first try. Still, third try is great! I'm glad the solution helped.

Octobot Super I played through Chapter 9 naturally thinking that I'd just come across it, but I didn't (and then proceeded to chapter 10 after forgetting to recheck). Where is the gallery?
Posted by Octobot Super on 10 Mar 13 at 03:31
Shinerbock88 It's on the ship called the USM Valor and the gallery is in the armory. If you get to the barracks then you went too far. It's shortly after you board the new ship. The holographic signs above the doors will tell you where you are in the ship. Here's a video that will help you out:

The guy in the video gets to the shooting gallery at 1:24 of the video. Good luck!

Shinerbock88 D'oh! Did you run by the shooting gallery? I missed your last question.
