you can buy three plots of land: Lakeview Manor (Falkreath), Windstad Manor (Morthal) and Heljarchen Hall (Dawnstar) To buy the plots of land you need 5000€ each and have the Thane Status in all three cities, then ask the Servant of the Jarl (in Dawnstar the Jarl himself) about a house. After you paid 5000 € (each) you get a Misc Quest and a Map Marker.

You dont need to build the Houses, just buy the land. After you bought the 3nd one, you get the Achievement. If you need help with the Thane Status, check this Link: http://bit.ly/Uq9mkP

FreakOfTheAbyss: You CANNOT get the land in Falkreath if you have completed the Dark Brotherhood quests, as you have to kill a certain person that makes the Jarl always dislike you and therefore refuses to sell you land. Just a heads up for anyone else who got screwed like I did.

FreakOfTheAbyss: Did you kill the steward as part of the quest you did? I think you may be able to choose not to kill him, but if you killed him there is no way to get the land.
Kaiser679Correction: I can't speak for Morthal or Dawnstar yet, but you DO NOT have to be Thane of Falkreath to purchase Lakeview Manor.

Brooklyn GinReally? Because that's the only one I cant buy land for. I have spoken to the steward chick in the same building as the jarl, but no speech option comes up.

Jason@Sudden Thunder I had the same problem. Follow this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEUT2z_BR-w

I had the to get the Amulet of Arkay at Wayward Pass (On Table) to give to Torbjorn. This was all i needed to get the Jarl to finally speak more dialect to me.

Brooklyn GinCheers for that sim jason. Was exactly the thing I needed to find. Saved me from frustration. Achievement unlocked!

KennyannydennyYou don't need to be thane. Ive build a house in Falkreath, but i'm no thane there
Posted by Kennyannydenny on 06 Sep 12 at 19:22
Brooklyn GinWell as soon as I became thane I was able to purchase property. Until then nothing else worked.

Subliminal CutsAny ideas why a speech option doesn't open up in Dawnstar? I have done 5 minor quests and still nothing mentioned about becoming a thane, the yarl has options about other things which lead to dead ends and the other people dont speak at all apart from the mage but again nothing happens after going through the conversations

Twig caresThats exactly the problem im having.

Subliminal CutsI looked around online and some people mentioned that the old Nord yarl gets replaced with an imperial yarl in a quest and he is the one that gives thane status, can anyone confirm this and any info on what quests to take would be awesome if it is the case
Posted by Subliminal Cuts on 07 Sep 12 at 13:35
Twig caresThat happens if you side with the empire in the civil war.

erickydullboyFor Dawnstar it seems to me that you need to take care the nightmare situation, namely The Walking Nightmare quest.

AgentOfAbyss*SPOILERS*

Fiendish5022I just got this achievement. I had some trouble at first, but here's what I did. Note, I was not Thane of any of these places, so it is not required to become Thane in order to purchase the land.

- The courier came to me in Whiterun and I got the adoption note, a Breezehome note and a note from the Steward of Falkreath.
- First I went to Falkreath and got my first plot of land.
- Second, I went to Morthal and got the second plot of land. Note, the option from the steward might say "I want to purchase a house", instead of "I want to buy land".
- Dawnstar was a little different. I had to do one minor mission for the Jarl and I had already completed the Waking Nightmare quest. When I came back, the option to buy land was present.

I hope this works for everyone. I was confused at first, but these steps worked for me.

ArtemasI completed the Dark Brotherhood, but was able to still buy land from the steward(she was a replacement steward i think) and not a Thane. Don't know why I was able to buy land, but I did.

Sneaky G WizardYeah Freaks comments should be removed - it's not true for everybody and could really annoy some people.

KobiMinamI did the Dark Brotherhood before building houses, and I didn't see the option to buy the land from the Jarl in Falkreath, but a woman in the same building Tekla sold me the land after I was thane.

DarknessCaIIingJust thought you might want to include what reforc3 said in his solution, pulled directly from the Bethesda support page:

"What are the specific requirements for getting land in each hold?

For Falkreath: You must complete the “Rare Gifts” favor, and the “Kill the Bandit Leader” favor. You may then buy land from Steward Nenya.

For Hjaalmarch: You must complete the quest “Laid to Rest”. You may then buy land from Steward Aslfur.

For Dawnstar: You must must complete the Daedric Quest “Waking Nightmare” and then the favor “Kill the Giant”. Please note that this favor has the prerequisites of being level 22 or higher, and having had previously completed the “Waking Nightmare”"

MadMaxxxWrong comments in solution. I have completed Dark Brotherhood, but I bought land in Falkreath. In Falkreath not even Jarl sells it.

UP JohnnyThen it's because of the Civil war? Done both Civil war and Dark Brotherhood before Hearthfire, then made some random quests for the steward, but no new dialogue options :/

PtIf you've finished the Dark Brotherhood quests, you can purchase land in Falkreath after you finish the main quest. The steward gets replaced, but you must restart your favor with the jarl and earn it back.

Dragon NexusAddition to the Dark Brotherhood info above.
I've completed the quest to kill the guy in Falkreath *before* getting made Thane or even doing the jarl's radient quest. I think it hinges on whether he likes you or not. I could be wrong.
If you kill his help, he doesn't like you. If you do his radient quest (get the black briar mead) he likes you again. Then kill the bandit leader in a nearby mine and he'll allow you to buy land. Help three people in the town after that and you can become thane (not necessary for buying land).

Then speak to Nenya, the high elf, to buy the land for 5000 gold.

Also to note, if you're speaking to the Jarl and don't have an option to ask if he needs help, check if you have any of these quests in your Miscellanious Quests list.

I had to find an amulet of arkay for someone. Once I cleared that, the option showed up. You can only have one rare item quest at a time.

Breadly WeaponI was Thane in Falkreath long before I did the Dark Brotherhood. And I sided with the Empire in the War so Siddgeir wasn't replaced. Is there any way for me to buy land in Falkreath?

AgentOfAbyssSorry let me clarify my comments: What I have previously stated is 100% true IF YOU ARE A THANE. Let's recap:

If you are a thane before doing the Dark Brotherhood Quests then you CANNOT get the land because the Jarl refuses to offer you the option to buy it. If you are not yet a thane, you can become a Thane after killing the Housecarl and you will be able to buy it.

Warboy925For Dawnstar, you need to do the Daedric "Waking Nightmare" quest, then you need to be AT LEAST level 22+ to get a "kill giant" quest, and I believe you have to help 3 people of the pale to be THANE, a drunk outside the tavern (give him a drink), Anga from Anga's Mill (give a letter to the jarl), and get fine fire void salts for the captain of the docked ship in Dawnstar....

I believe what is throwing people off is that they don't know about the being level 22+ to get the second quest from the jarl......to be honest, I think I was able to buy the house BEFORE I became Thane because I remember needing to go to Anga's mill as part of the "building house mini side quest", I got a letter from her to deliver to the jarl and it counted towards the helping 3 people of the pale Thane requirements
