This is not a complete solution, but I think that I can offer a useful tip for those who, like me, are having trouble with the core defense at the end of the game. BEWARE, THERE COULD BE SOME SPOILERS:

- If you can afford it, buy "return to sender for less" in the vending machine before the fight. If not, don't worry. It's not essential, but it's helpful.

- When the fight starts, stick a bunch of Return To Sender traps (holding LT) on the front of the core like this crappy quality picture shows:

External image

- This will make the core almost invulnerable, therefore making the fight A LOT easier. This way, you can allow the enemies to focus their fire on the core, and you can destroy them from behind easily, or even use Songbird on them. Rockets do damage the core a little, so focus on RPG infantry and cannonner ships first.

- Keep an eye on the core, and if the traps start to dissapear, throw some more. Also, if an enemy gets near the core the traps will explode, so be careful with that too.

Hope this is of some help, and sorry if there's any grammar mistake, english is not my mother language. Also, if someone has a way to improve this solution, just comment ;)
DarrenlloydPeople, pay attention to this solution. It made the completion of the defence of the flagship easy on hard.

Juanchu77This is a must on 1999 mode. First try with this vs a whole hour in this battle on my first walkthrough

Timeless MagicOutstanding solution, an absolute must. Saved me hours and hours of frustration no doubt!

ARCHER MIKEnice tip! i put 6 down at the beginning and another 6 towards the end of the fight and it made it easier than my first playthru.

i wish these 2 notes were added to solutions as they would of made much easier

1)i wish someone would of put spend all but 500 coins before starting the last fight because i had 2000 coins left and only died twice. it would of allowed me to purchase more upgrades and the fights would of been even easier.

2) when fighting bosses thruout the game, you should restart checkpoint rather then losing money on the revives when you die. that way you can purchase more upgrades and the boss always starts with full health when you revive so it doesnt make sense not to restart.

in case any of you are wondering how long does it take from the last battle til the achievements pop, its about 15minutes

ATCSI was about to say hell with this game until I read the Return To Sender tip. Only lost about 10% of the core!

DaKarchyBest tip ever. I bet even the developers haven't thought about this compute

Xx1337SniPerzxXGot it first time with this trick! And I'd already failed10-12 times. Great solution!!!

perfectdozenThis method is a MUST. Beat it on my first attempt trying it this way after an hour of failure. Here's what I did:

I wanted to follow this guide after failing the last battle a number of times but didn't have Return to Sender for Less, so I went to the Engineering Deck save and bought it there and played through to Command Deck, possessing any vending machines I could find to get my coin total to around 550. I started the final battle and put three traps on the front side of the core and never had to add any additional traps. I mostly just ignored enemies and focused on commanding Songbird. Eventually I took everyone out and had about 75% of the core left when it was over. I died 4 times. This solution is awesome and I definitely upvoted it.

Deadman L2I tried this and beat the final level on my first try. Saved me a lot of trouble and is a MUST if you don't want to much trouble on the final level.

Strategy OneIts funny that this is the #1 solution now even though its not about the entire achievement. It is helpful, but I beat the ending my first try no problem without using this trick but full props to help other people out and make it easier.

shagyxI touched a dollar bill machine and when I got out of the machine and restarted the checkpoint can someone tell Me can I still get this achivment
Posted by shagyx on 29 Apr 13 at 21:57
amenazamenor JF@shagyx, as long as you don't buy anything from the machines, you're fine.
Posted by amenazamenor JF on 29 Apr 13 at 22:40
shagyxAlso another question you get return to sender in the game do you mean upgrade it?
Posted by shagyx on 30 Apr 13 at 04:21
amenazamenor JFYeah, I mean buying the upgrade that reduces salt use. But, as I said, it isn't fundamental. This trick can be done easily without that upgrade.
Posted by amenazamenor JF on 30 Apr 13 at 11:23
shagyxOk thanks a lot i was a little confussed but you cleared my question up thanks

Geordie ScoutExcellent tip with the 'Return To Sender' traps. 2nd play through, I won the final fight at the 1st attempt on 1999 mode using this solution (it took many attempts on normal difficulty on my 1st play through). Cheers! smile

HolyHalfDeadThank You! :D

After a couple of hours of failing to defend the core using various approaches I gave in a found this excellent solution (only part of the game I needed a solution for). I didn't have the Return to Sender for Less vigor upgrade and I only put 4 infusion upgrades into salts, but I covered the core with about 30 return to sender traps and then went up to the Crow's Nest and just used the Sniper Rifle and Song Bird. The quickest way to take out the rocket troops was using Possession (using the Sniper Rifle to aim).

MashedPeas11Still works as of 15/09/15. Thank you. :)

octorok74Super helpful. Thank goodness I found this tip before trying it another way. Made it so much easier. I lost maybe 10% of the core. Stellar idea. Thanks a lot.

Kung Fu RikiAwesome solution. But the link to the image is broken for me. Still getting my upvote!

Armstrong x360aPhenomenal solution. I wasted an hour trying this the WT way until I read your solution. Then got it first try with <20% damage to the core. Thumbs up!

PS. I did not have any upgrades on Return to Sender and still only needed to replace the traps once so don't fear if you have already started this and can't go back to change your load out.
