Beenox’s The Amazing Spiderman was a surprise hit. I thoroughly enjoyed most of it, too. Its gameplay and controls were highly praised, but its story and graphics were criticized. Can The Amazing Spiderman 2 be better than its predecessor? Can Beenox fix the issues that dragged down the previous game?

The Good:

The Amazing Spiderman 2 carries over what its predecessor did so greatly: excellent controls. The controls were very fluid, and controlling Spiderman was done with much ease. The Amazing Spiderman 2 boasts some of the best controls that any game in the past year has had, and that is saying a lot coming from someone who plays his fair share of games in any given year.

Spidy’s swinging… and he goes up… The Amazing Spiderman 2 also has a fun and unique ability in web swinging. While I couldn’t swing around New York for hours on end, I could, and did so for twenty minutes. The swinging capability is a definite plus to the game.

I am somewhat of a stickler when it comes to a games sound. While I found The Amazing Spiderman 2’s sound to be slightly below average, it was still passable – the voice acting was decent, but the sounds made by the AI, and sometimes Spiderman, are, to say the least odd. Essentially, if you are looking for a Spiderman game that sounds like great, then consider that when you purchase the game.

As this is an achievements-based site, the games achievements should be reviewed, and they are slightly above average. There is a perfect mix of story and upgrade-based achievements, but the abundance of collectible-related achievements are definitely a downside to the game, so watch out. The Amazing Spiderman 2 most definitely has better achievements than its predecessor.

The Bad:

Its story is nothing like Bioshock Infinite’s very sublime story, but the story of The Amazing Spiderman 2 is passable, but not great. The story was, at times, hard to follow, and at times, very boring, even with combat intermixed with cut scenes. With all that said, I did enjoy some more Spiderman lore, even it was OK Spiderman lore. Essentially, the games story is OK – it passes for a budget title, but it is certainly no AAA title. You could take or leave it, I guess.

What The Amazing Spiderman did well, is not as done as well in The Amazing Spiderman 2. The gameplay felt almost like the Batman: Arkham series, minus its fluidity, finesse, and polish. It felt like almost a carbon copy of the games gameplay, minus the aforementioned things.

The Ugly:

Recent games’ graphics are supposed to passable, but The Amazing Spiderman 2’s are from that. I was stunned when I got close to characters and buildings to see horrible textures and plain BAD graphics.

Overall: 2/5. This game is for the die-hard superhero fans, but still can be a decent experience for about anyone. It’s a title that can be rented, but for those superhero die-hard fans, you should definitely think about picking up a copy.

The reviewer spent around 8 hours guiding Spiderman through the game. A copy was provided as a courtesy for the purpose of this review.
w4rdyHow come it only got half a star when in the review you gave it 2.5? Is that a mistake?

keadybarryU said the controls were excellent? I found them dire im always shouting stop at the tv because he landed four buildings ahead of where I wanted him to be, when you awing on to a building why do you have to press a button to stick to it, its SPIDER-MAN! ! Thats one of his main powers!! Sticking! ! The fighting is awful just two buttons, and the story is pathetic, first you save max dillon the bext he shows up as a villian... why man why....and dont get me started on them task force bitches who block your path even after you have saved the world. I actually found it quite embarrasing that a game like this could still be released and as a massive superhero gamerfan it was a great shame that could not have developed a better game because the fans want AND deserve a good Spider-Man game

Aura of HeroismOk. I am the down vote and I'll tell you why. It's ok to have iffy grammar and overuse commas, but a lot of what your saying isn't following any kind of track. Your either missing words or don't finish a thought. Such as saying this game has something fun and unique in web swinging. Either you lost your train of thought or don't realize that EVERY Spider-man game lets you web swing. Also, if you going to compare storylines, maybe try another relatable game. Thisisn't even in the same league as BSI and comparing it feels like someone saying, "This bicycle is no Ferrari, but it goes." Doesn't make a ton of sense.
You may also wanna try not contradicting yourself in your score. 2/5 is bad but saying it could be a decent experience for you or if your die hard fan you should consider picking it up seems to say different.
Lastly, if you think these are good controls play any other Spider-Man title and if you think they were good compared to other nearby releases .... Well Your hands are either fubar or you just don't play that much.

Warboy925Down vote @ Aura of Heroism, "Thisisn't" is not one word, lol, just kidding....
But then I find myself agreeing with Aura of Heroism, missing words, dropped train of thought.....not bad, but not good either

Warboy925Its on sale at $10 US, thinking up picking it up now, rather than getting upset if its no good and spending $25 later.

Warboy925Update: Opps....it was on sale for $15US, I picked it up on the 2nd, so far, the game isn't that bad, but yet, I feel that it definitely wasn't worth the $25 it normally is. I totally agree with keadybarry, you need to press cn_Y to stick to a wall? Now, as someone who normally LOVES games with collectables, I'd say that picking up 300 comics is a bit overkill and I feel that particular achievement is worth a higher TA score then what was given.......and the voice acting? I felt some of the dialogue was a bit "rushed" in some cutscenes.......I haven't finished the game yet, but so far, I'd give it a 2.5/5.....sadly, I don't think this game was better then the first Amazing Spider-Man......yet in some areas, it does seem to shine.......
