This achievement sounds daunting, but it's not nearly as hard as you may think, if you have some friends to play with. Personally I consider Halo 3 Legendary to be the easiest among the 4 main Halo titles, especially when you consider that it can be done with 4 coop players.

You have 10 missions to beat in 3 hours, but one of them is a cut scene, which does NOT count against your time. So with 9 actual missions, you're looking to average 19:59 per mission to finish with a total time of 2:59:59 or less.

You can check your stats by going to Halowaypoint.com, signing in with your Microsoft/XBL account. Click on games, select Master Chief Collection. Now select service record. scroll down and you have drop down menus that allow you to see your highest completed difficulty, score, time, and whether you did it in Solo or Coop for each individual campaign. Add all of these times together and you will know how much time you need to shave.

For actual gameplay, try just walking through as much of the mission as possible. You can do this by watching speed runs and seeing what paths the players take to avoid conflict. If you have a good team of four, you can also easily wipe out a section of enemies with little effort, or even have 3 people kill enemies with one guy running through while enemies are distracted with all the bullets.

Also with coop, if one person is alive, your progress is saved and you can continue to respawn. Vehicles will likely be your biggest foe, with ghosts and Wraith turrents draining your shields rapidly. Use the EMP feature on plasma pistols, as well as mounting and beating vehicles to death. Obviously try and use Tanks, gauss hogs, Spartan Lasers, Rockets, etc., efficiently against these enemies.

Also know where objectives are, what spawns enemies, where ammo and weapon caches are, and just have a good knowledge of the mission. Playing the missions for par time on easier difficulties, or just playing for fun (shocking, I know) is a good way to just learn the game.

If you have any questions or need a tip on a particular mission or section of the game, feel free to comment or PM and ask. I have beaten the Halo 3 campaign at least 100 times since it's inception on the 360, so I have a general idea on what I'm doing. Let me feel like all that time wasn't wasted for completely no reason!

I ran with a 4 person party. We did this in one session two days after the game came out, with basically no prep just using our knowledge of the game to play quickly. We were still pretty casual about it. We only restarted one mission because we died after 8 minutes when we received no check point. Which also brings me to this note: If you hit Restart Mission from the pause menu, it resets the time counter, so no harm done if you got off to a bad start.

Here are my times:
Sierra 117 - 13:44
Crow's Nest - 13:54
Tsavo Highway - 8:15
The Storm - 13:39
Floodgate - 7:21
The Ark - 27:12
The Covenant - 33:02
Cortana - 12:36
Halo - 24:43
Total: 2:22:26

As you can see, The Ark, The Covenant, and Halo took about half the time, but you can see how quickly the other missions were done. Just be patient, keep trying and shave time from easier missions! Don't be afraid to take too long on one or two, just play them all, and replay the mission you feel most comfortable. Good luck!
xxNxAxTxExxThis achievement is the hardest one for me so far. Save/Quit doesn't reset time, I have no friends to help me, and having to nail every trick and run in one playthrough is hell.

DragonFangDanIt should be noted that the achievement won't pop if you aren't the host in Co-Op, even if you all got it done in less than 3 hours. Just redoing the prolog or epilog as host seems to make it work, as long as it's still Co-Op. For some reason it needs to all be done in Singleplayer or all in Multiplayer, you can't mix them.

ZleekI'll add it. I "earned" this achievement within the first few days of the game being out I just didn't unlock it until they patched it for people like me. But I'll add your info to the guide as well. Thanks!

DARKOScannleyJust played through and everyone in my party got the achievement except me and I was host.

Zleek@Darko literally read the comment two above yours lol

DARKOScannleyYea I know I saw it and I did that about 100 times. Loaded prolog watched all the way through didn't skip cut scene and epilogue all the way thru didn't skip cut scene in co-op and nothing. I'm just going to have to re run every level, I just left a comment in case it happens to someone else.

ZleekOh that's weird. I would try completing every level in single player as well if you haven't already, just on normal. Strange.
Posted by Zleek on 11 Jun 15 at 19:38
DARKOScannleyPretty sure it has something to do with skipping cut scenes and the end of levels. Seems to effect some par scores and times when end cut scenes are skipped...so probably effects this achievement too. I got the achievement half way thru re-running levels in coop skipping no end of level cut scenes. Just a warning for people that it could happen since this game is buggy.

FlaviusPrimusMyself and 3 others completed all the timed missions in a co-op session. But 3 out of the 4 didn't get the achievement to pop right away. We discovered that 3/4 completed all the timed runs on legendary co-op but only 1 of us completed the Prologue and Epilogue on legendary co-op prior to the session. The Devastating Achievement recognizes the these as part of the achievement. So we all went back and watched the entire cut scenes for the Prologue and Epilogue on legendary co-op and the rest of us got it.

Zleek@Flavius Yes you must complete the missions on legendary, but those "missions" don't count against your time at all

Version 149Do you have to start at the beginning for each game on legendary and play all the way through, or can I pick and choose the missions to beat the times?
Posted by Version 149 on 30 Dec 15 at 00:10
Zleek@VA Sadis you can just play any mission in any order. Just make sure you are on legendary!

Version 149Alright nice, thanks.

xfsocietyNeed 2 more players to get this achievement. Msg me on xbl

UnfurledEmu75I found that the save-quit method works, but you cant "save", you have to exit to dashboard and close the game. And again, doing this in the final checkpoint will null the time and score.
Combining this with saving in the cloud shoulnt be too hard.

Apache117XThis still isn’t working, whole game in legendary coop with more than 20 minutes to spare, no achievements for anyone.
Also, I have played the single player game fully and watched start and end cut scenes... any ideas anyone?

tacticlblackmanNOTE: with the latest title update, it may require you to watch epilogue, intro, and then close the game and re-open, and THEN go into the halo 3 mission select. the achievement SHOULD pop then
Posted by tacticlblackman on 09 Jul at 05:11
WillyMctacticlblackman's suggestion is spot on. We had to do all of his suggestion for it to pop due to the most recent update
Posted by WillyMc on 27 Jul at 00:34
Zeus the TitanI can confirm that tacticlblackman is absolutely right. Did most missions with coop partner, then did epilogue and intro (in that order) solo, went to dashboard and back to MCC Halo 3 mission select. Achievement popped.
