UPDATE: Thanks to 'General Wizzard' for confirming, you can lock the Marines behind the 1st or last doors by playing coop and having your partner teleport you forwards and still get the achievement.. makes it much easier!

UPDATE 2: I just did this with two friends(Nov 1, '15); What we did was go until we met the first marines, then advanced a little to the next enemies trying to figure out who the Marines were following. Turned out to not be the host. The person they were following stayed back with the Marines who didn't budge at all, and the other two of us continued, cleared out the rest of the first area, and teleported him through the door. Achievement popped for both of them first try! (It was on Easy, no skulls)

---------------------------------------------------
This achievement can be rather tricky, simply because the Marines like to get themselves killed by going out into fire. I highly recommend doing this with more than one person in coop, and on EASY!

You can have one person hang back and keep the Marines from running forwards into the kill zones as they die in about one or two Carbine shots. However, if you do this, you run the risk of having whoever is in the lead teleport you forwards past a closed door and into a checkpoint, so make sure you brings the Marines forwards to each gate that opens and closes.

However, we did confirm that you don't have to bring the Marines through the LAST door that opens and closes. My partner RoboFailBoat teleported me through that door, when we had only one Marine left, the Marine was behind that door and we got the achievement!

Could someone please try teleporting past the first door and trapping Marines behind the first door and see if that counts for Marines alive--if it works like that, it makes this EXTREMELY easy!! Please let me know if it works! Thanks for testing and confirming it works for the first door 'General Wizzard'! toast

General Wizzard I will confirm that you can keep a coop partner behind to stop the marines moving and teleport your partner through the first checkpoint door. We did it on Easy with only the silver skulls active.

My friend and I killed every enemy in the next area including the hunters to be on the safe side. And while we had no marines alive in that room we decided to finish the mission and it popped.

So it would seem that you can indeed trap your marines behind the first door and they will stay alive

Timbouton I did it solo and, after killing the hunters, still got 1 marine left alive, but didn't want to follow me through the last door, so I decided to let him behind me. Achievement didn't pop.

Timbouton Ok did it again on solo (saved 2 marines this time), and it worked this time... So apparently it works also on solo, but with a random chance of it not working...

Shadow 00 Fox Nice, thanks for the update!

Neeners Cleedus Timbouton, same with me. One left on solo and didn't get the achievement.

Shadow 00 Fox Please do not down-vote this because it doesn't work for you currently. There appears to be a MASSIVE wave of glitchy achievements going on right now.... *sigh*.. 343...... I know a friend who was helping his friend run through the Legendary ODST playlist yesterday. His friend got TWO mission achievements total. If this doesn't work for you, it's probably being glitchy like a lot of other achievements right now! If it doesn't work after your 2nd try, please let us know! toast

Ratpoizen i dont see how this is possible on solo, soon as i enter the area with the two hunters the marines die immediately. no way to defend them? =(
Posted by Ratpoizen on 07 Jun 15 at 13:00
Shadow 00 Fox Don't do it on solo is about the best advice I can give. That area is really frustrating because the Marines charge in to attack. I once had one of them glitch behind the broken warthog and got the achievement even though they never went through the next door. Very annoying. Have you tried locking them behind closed doors?

XxPafranxX Ok, so in my fifth solo try I manage to leave 3 marines alive and finally get the achievement, the key is to go as fast as you can, killing everything. In my experience, the easiest marines to have alive are the first two you encounter at the beginning of the level. Good luck everyone! smile

Shadow 00 Fox Nice!

Elite1111111111 Yeah the second set of Marines you find are really squishy compared to the first group. This coupled with the fact they're surrounded when you get there makes them hard to save. I finished the level with just the girl Marine left alive and the achievement didn't pop so I'm wondering if that's the one people have an issue with.

Quintett Feuer I did the level with just the female marine alive as well and did not get it. I don't think she counts.

Shadow 00 Fox Umm. If that's the case, wow.... shock smile

OverkillChaos Did it twice SOLO on easy, and no achievement with 2-3 marines alive. Went for the par score on Legendary and the achievement unlocked with no marines alive, with the Par score achievement......This achievement is all sorts of F***ed up.

Shadow 00 Fox Wow... I think this one should maybe be marked as glitchy...
Posted by Shadow 00 Fox on 28 Jun 15 at 20:33
KANEFAN84 yeah the female marine didnt work for me either, the 2 marines i saved at the start die as soon as they get to the bit after the door.
Posted by KANEFAN84 on 29 Jun 15 at 16:53
KANEFAN84 However after trying the actual method explained (co-op) it worked like a charm.

Shadow 00 Fox Excellent! smile

itz waz me When i did this achievement it seemed to me like you had to have 2 or more marines alive. my first 2 or 3 attempts where i had 1 marine left alive didn't unlock it. but it popped straight away as soon as i had 2+ marines.

don't remember what difficulty i played on though.

Robster80 This IS possible to do solo - I did it on Easy, but took me 2 tries. I used my grenades sparingly, saving the plasma and Stickers for the Hunters near the end. I went right for them to make sure they didn't get anywhere near the marines. Best weapons I used were Brute Plasma Rifles, PLasma Pistols, and Spikers.

Melman V2 had to do this twice solo the first time one mainre survived the second two survived

Weezleram Where the hell does the other player need to be to keep the marines from running forward?
Posted by Weezleram on 25 Aug 15 at 02:15
Shadow 00 Fox I was hoping someone else might reply from more recent experience--when I did it, I was hanging wayyyy back where the marines start, and they started following me. I think you might have to test who they follow? Also, my partner if I remember right just ran forwards past some enemies to get a doorway checkpoint before the marines could start following, but it's been a long time now.

Frozen Destiny Can confirm still works just got achievement still works if you lock marines behind 1st door after clearing all enemies we got it
Posted by Frozen Destiny on 25 Aug 15 at 20:57
General Wizzard @Weezleram @Shadow 00 Fox

When my friend and I got the achievement I just had him stay in the area where you first encounter the marines. And not move at all until I teleported him after the door
Posted by General Wizzard on 26 Aug 15 at 21:53
AttestedBarley2 they wouldn't wait with my partner, and proceeded on as each checkpoint was passed. difficult.
Posted by AttestedBarley2 on 05 Sep 15 at 09:22
Xyjar Yeah, dumb female marine doesn't count for this.

Crayon Taster Took me a while to figure out exactly what this guide was saying... but after a few attempts I got it. Locking those dummys out is a great solution! Thanks +1 from me.

Shadow 00 Fox Sorry about the confusion, it has worked several different ways for different people... please let me know if there's a way to make it less confusing! dance

WALKING DEAD726 I've played this twice and each time I open the first door the marines head towards the door so its best to push forward until it spawns your partner and closes the door. When I did it the first time they made it before I could spawn my partner in. So I think that was easy I got it 10 mins. But its also good to keep your player that has the AI far away that way when you open the door it will take them a while to run towards the first door giving you enough time to run forward and spawn your other player with you. Figured I should add that if anyone was getting confused on it.

Punderstatement I did this twice solo (with only one marine left alive, the girl) and it didn't pop, tried the door method and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the guide mate.

iiCatastrophic Just did this solo, for whatever reason the woman marine does not count. Had one male marine left alive and the cheev popped.

MyNamelsNotJohn I was able to do this solo, kept the two initial marines alive until the big fight in the courtyard and at that point you just want to try to kill everything quick as possible. As soon as you walk through the door you want to focus on the jackals/brutes with carbines because they seem to kill the marines very quickly as mentioned in the solution. After that just kill the brutes and pick off the grunts.

Ideally you want everyone else dead before the hunters come in and at that point just take them out fast as can be. I think I had 3 or 4 marines alive by the time the hunters came in and finished with only one remaining but that was of course enough. And it probably goes without mentioning but you can always reload the checkpoint before the courtyard fight if you fail and try again before going to the last section with Dare's drop pod.

The S bot 9000 Did it solo with one marine left! He stayed behind in the area where the hunters spawned and after trying to persuade him with some pushing I ended up just going forward and killing the 3 grunts around the pod!
