The special rooms, which are the ones which have a question mark on the map, regenerate breakable items when you quit to the main menu. Because of this you can farm infinite gold and health/magic which makes the Thanatophobia achievement very easy to obtain. The process is as follows:

1) Explore a bit of the castle until you have several special rooms accessible.
2) Quit to the main menu.
3) Go back into the game and use the warp to jump quickly to each special room.
4) Quit to the main menu and rinse and repeat.

Because you can farm infinite gold you should be able to level up your second or third character enough to reach and beat all bosses fairly easily. You can also use this method to refill your health and magic so you can safely clear out the castle room by room.

Every so often you should exit out of the game and make a backup just in case you die. Even though you can get back full health any time you want it is very easy to die at level 0 once you start exploring further in the castle.

This is not the quickest method as the farming is a bit of a grind but it guarantees that anyone should be able to achieve this achievement.

You have to do this on a brand new save slot, Play through 2 will not work

NBA KirklandSo you get maybe 50 gold per trip? Seems like a quite a grind.

MemoriesOfFinalclown dagger mini-game farming is much more efficient for gold than the ? room farming if you can find it near a teleporter

a Ma N ii aC x@Memories, I would probably think axe game is much more easier as in 5 axes you can for sure get 450+ gold

TimmayOn X1, if you're still alive, you can reload from the castle entrance on your most recent start by dashboarding and starting another game up. It interrupts Rogue Legacy's autosave. If you try to dashboard and manually quit Rogue Legacy, it will still autosave your current status. This cannot be used if your character has died and turned to a ghost.

This ostensibly provides the opportunity to attempt a boss multiple times as long as you don't die. If your health is too low, the situation too risky, or if you get off to a bad start, you can use this method to start again at full health (assuming you had full health before entering the boss).

As this does interrupt the autosave, I would not suggest using after picking up a lot of gold.

PostModernMartrI would just like to add this little bit of info to make things clear...
different ? rooms offer different amounts of breakables, since the castle respawns randomly, it might be best to make one spawn thats most favorable. They are listed from best to worst:

Magician Mini Boss room (requires skill or level) - 12-17 breakables (depends on what section of map).
Portrait minibus room (requires skill or luck, sometimes its just a portrait with benefits for these purposes) - 5-6 breakables.
Juke Box Room - 3-5 breakables
Shrine Room - 2-4 breakables
Mini game rooms - 2-3 breakables
Fountain Rooms - 2 breakables
Magic Weapon Rooms - 2 breakables.
Journal Rooms - 1-3 Breakables.

MemoriesOfFinala Ma N ii aC x : the axe mini-game doesn't give gold on breaking targets, only when you finish meaning only one time of 450 gold. As long as the last dagger isn't thrown or the last target isn't broken, you can keep repeating it indefinitely. Each target gives gold when breaking it meaning you could get 280 gold + 3 breakable items per reload.

Frankies BackJust a heads up, i dont know if this happened to anyone else but when i quit out of the game after repeating the dagger mini game multiple times and playing other characters, my game reset to when i started the grind. This happened on two saves and i didn't realize it happened to my first save because i gave up on it.

AnxsighetyThis achievement is brutal. Unfortunately I waited too long, and I'm on NG+3 now... I've played to max myself out, but have a feeling once I hit NG+4 being maxed out may not be enough. Guess we'll see.
Posted by Anxsighety on 12 Jun 15 at 20:59
NBA KirklandI think this has to be done from a fresh save. So you can't do it on NG+ anyway.

The AllslayerYeah it has to be a new save.

Senyth@Frankies Back - happened to me, too. Twice. The first time I stopped grinding at 25k, took a break, came back the next day and was at 8k. The second time, I farmed 100k on the dagger game, upgraded to level 90 or so, and a few characters later found another dagger game that I decided to farm later. So I quit and today found myself back on the first character with 22k.

I don't understand why it isn't saving properly. :/

sirbradenwalkerCan anyone confirm if this is still working post-patch?

alex1sqcI don't know if it's just me but everytime I try getting into the game it won't work like at the main menu it says press A to start your legacy but nothing happens even when I try pressing the "start" button I don't work I don't know if it's just me because I have a wired controller or is this bugged for others??
Posted by alex1sqc on 08 Jan 16 at 14:08
o Cappinator oalex, there's two things that happen to me that prevent me from moving past the "Press A to start your legacy" screen:
1. I press A and nothing happens: Just turn off the controller and back on, and it should work.
2. I press A and it asks me for my profile. When I choose one, it goes back to the "Press A..." screen. This repeats at infinitum. To fix this, instead of choosing your profile, choose to log out, then when you are asked for your profile next, log in with your profile and it should work.

EarthboundXHmm, same thing just happened to me, grinded for a couple hours, I come back to find my save at an earlier point in time.

Wow, it actually made a whole new castle, for the same character. I started almost dead, but it was a brand new one.
Posted by EarthboundX on 28 Jun 17 at 10:12
EarthboundXTurns out you can use the fourth's bosses'(The giant slime in the dungeon) room to grind out gold. There's 13 crates in there. Found out why watching a no death run on Youtube, just smash the crates then quit to the title menu like usual, and repeat.

Crimson DrifterWell, the save glitch happened to me. I think the issue is if you do not close the game properly. I make it a habit (as with all games I play) to return to the main menu, then dashboard and force quit the game.

This last time I failed, I forgot to force quite and I believe I shut off the xbox while it was on the main menu. Thats what I get for being in a hurry lol

Prior, I had all bosses defeated and was in the process of trying to fight the final boss. I had grinded around 50k and was in the 80's for level I think. When I came back I was set back to my initial character, 26k gold, only Khidir defeated, but the entire castle had reset (same layout, but all enemies had respawned).

Going to slowly grind towards this and probably try and get into 60/70k for a little extra cushion for fighting the final boss. Hopefully my force quit procedure rings true!

smakzillaaWell... I was more talking about the exploit... ehehe -facepalm-
Posted by smakzillaa on 23 Feb 18 at 20:09
Crimson DrifterSame difference, you shouldnt run into any issues. In my previous comments, just make sure to quit out then dash and quit game

KumekerionI can confirm that it (the basic room grinding) still works, in case anyone was wondering.
