You must start a "New Game" and then pick up all 24 journals (including the secret one) and complete the game in under 10 minutes.

The optimized path is shown below:

Before interacting with the book at the end you can view your journal using cn_RB to ensure that you have all 24 entries.
Nate1528Thanks for the guide! It still says "Done! Unlocking..." for me though...

OdadjianActualMaka, cool!!! I just noticed you changed the splash screen for your guides to show XB1 games instead of reach and portal. Neat!

Good guide as always.

DudeWithTheFaceCan you pause or does that count against time?

justG0TwickedGreat guide - thanks, man!

TheIrishBeasti ran into the same issues. Got all 24 within the time.

Did you spend time in the pause menu?

I turned on a lot of lights in the game as I went room to room. I dont think maka does in his video. Maybe that has something to do with it?
Posted by TheIrishBeast on 13 May 16 at 07:15
meatman75Great guide. I paused throughout and got the chievo for 23 journals and the secret cat one and this cheivo didn't pop (for a total of 24). Hmmm, gonna try again LOL!

UPDATE
Got it second try, great guide!

ElliotStoneCan i add that i did this yesterday and i found them all on my main palythrough not exactly going for this achievo and i took about 20 mins befor i finished the gam, then i quit the game took a 20 minute break came back to it resumed my game and opened the final book again and the achievo popped instantly

VaseraxGreat guide and you ABSOLUTLEY can pause!

KanchanaburiStarted a new game, not even knowing how to add modifiers, followed the video, and checked to see I had 24 before reading the journal, and this achievement didn't unlock. I even paused the game as I was getting them but perhaps pausing counts towards your time

Tecstar70Great guide! After 3 or 4 attempts here's a few tips from my successful run:

1 - try to follow the video in short chunks rather than play/pause at each document. Trying to re-orientate yourself in the right direction wastes time. After a couple of tries you will remember a lot anyway.

2 - Get the attic key through the secret door to the right of the staircase as soon as you enter the hallway for the first time. This will save mucking about with the ball later on which will save you time.

3 - Chucking the carton at the purple ball in the garage was always the sticking point for me. Do your best to get it as quickly as possible.

4 - If you get close to the basketball hoop it prompts you to "dunk" so you should get it in the net first time.

5 - Turn the brightness up to full in the settings. I did turn on one or two lights but you dont have time for that.
Posted by Tecstar70 on 10 Oct 17 at 14:07
Lt DavoI came here to make the same points #2, 4, and 5 Tecstar70 made just above. The purple ball will roll around and not be where you left it, so the less you have to mess with it, the better. And I wish I had known about the "Dunk" prompt on the basketball hoop earlier. It will work whether Sam's bedroom door is open or closed.

FalensaranoBuilding on ElliotStone's comment, I did two runs at this and on both runs I got 23 journals and the achievement unlocked on the second run. I didn't quit out of the game so I don't know if this is a genuine glitch to exploit, where I tricked the game into thinking I had all 24 journals or not, but hypothetically you could go through the story taking your time and purposely miss a journal, then start again, get the one you missed and complete the game and it may unlock. If someone's wants to test this theory out, please do!
Posted by Falensarano on 29 Oct 17 at 14:52
GambacinniI completed in under 10mins and no achievement. Click on resume game and clicked on the final book and it popped. So if it doesn't pop for you and you know you are sub 10 mins and all journals, try ending the game again by resuming
Posted by Gambacinni on 29 Oct 17 at 18:03
GambacinniAlso deffo get the attic key first as stated by Tecstar70

GRAND NOBLEI followed this guide WHILE PLAYING, pausing between every 2 or 3 and finding them.. and still unlocked it.

So maybe the timer stops when you pause. Just a note. THANKS MAKA

DeaconFrost2kPause stops the timer, i paused every note and got the achievement, thank you for the guide! clap

Octobot SuperI gotta agree, the video probably should have been done with the all light modifier on. I know that voids the achievement but it's just not really possible to see what's happening a good amount of the time the way it's recorded.
Posted by Octobot Super on 03 Dec 17 at 00:45
LeiChatYou can turn lights on as you go. I did that and it still unlocked.

Vein 666Ugh, I usually love maka's guides, but turn up the brightness...
Posted by Vein 666 on 03 Feb 18 at 20:47
Smoky BrennethGoing to go for this right now, so glad you can pause!! Also, to those who say the recording should be brighter; I hear you and you are right buuuuut, like, just turn the brightness on your monitor/tv/phone/whatevs to watch it, like you should in game anyways
Posted by Smoky Brenneth on 15 Feb 18 at 14:22
Vr EnglishYou the man, thanks for this. 1st time after a blind playthrough, no problems. Tescar's point about dunking was easy too.

DeadRose420Thank you for the guide I had to do this achievement twice because I was turning lights on
Posted by DeadRose420 on 18 Jul 18 at 09:25
Boots OrionThanks for the guide! A few things to add though...

As someone posted above, make sure that you turn the brightness settings up as far as they go. When I started this run, I noticed that my screen was way darker than what was in your video. Fortunately you can make the screen way brighter so that you don't even need to turn any lights on.

Secondly, I just wanted to confirm that as of today pausing the game does not count as time spent in the speedrun. I took about 12 minutes total, but about half of that was while the game was paused as I followed along the video.

Finally, there is a bit of a delay between finishing the run and the achievement popping. This is similar to the other speedrun achievements though.

NinjaChicken76Great guide as always Maka. Pausing the game does not count against you, thankfully, was dreading trying to memorize the run.
Posted by NinjaChicken76 on 17 Oct 19 at 08:41
Had to start my run over because half the time I couldn’t see anything in this video, very unhelpful.

l ROMANO lDid a hard restart of my console and went to my achievement from the dashboard and they popped.
Posted by l ROMANO l on 03 Nov 20 at 19:49
The S bot 9000Not sure what my final time was but it seems like you can pause the timer by pausing in game. I was going through this with a walkthrough in hand and was pausing it every few seconds so that i didn’t have to memorize 20+ locationssmile
Posted by The S bot 9000 on 08 Dec 20 at 03:12
Friggin GreaseYup, you can %100 pause it along with the video and get this easily.

Also, the achievement pops as soon as you've grabbed them all, so if you wanted to do this without a video walkthrough, you'll know when you get the last one
