Tomb Raider - Definitive Edition

TR Xbox One - P01I01

Hello everyone and welcome to the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition-walkthrough. My name is MC0REBE and I will be guiding you through the entire story, how you should best handle certain situations, how to solve puzzles, guide you to pick up all collectibles, support you to complete all challenges, train you to become a multiplayer-expert and naturally how to get all the achievements related to this brilliant game.

Hide ads

This will be the first guide where I will also experiment with in-game screenshots, shot from when I was playing (with some help from my lovely girlfriend who needed to take a screenshot in tricky situations) to give you some visual of this game if you are following this written guide over a video guide. A normal playthrough might take you 10 to 12 hours, but if you want to pick up every collectible and complete all challenges you are looking at roughly 20 hours.

You can play through the game on any difficulty you like, since there are no achievements keeping you on strings to have you going through it on the hardest difficulty. There are also no buggy or glitchy achievements, so this game is brilliant for completionists. There are a few points in the story that might need an additional save-slot, but I'll point those out while going through the game since there are not a lot of enemies after you have completed the main story line. You can still free roam (to collect relics, GPS caches, or to complete challenges) and encounter some; but most of them will not help you towards some achievements.

Before you start this game, you should take note of one missable achievement; which requires you to talk with every one of the Endurance crew until they stop talking. This will also be pointed out in the guide, but be warned: if you miss one character or even miss one chat; you miss the achievement and you will need to restart the game!

  • Chatterbox

All conversations with the Endurance crew completed.

    Chatterbox
3 guidesOffline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Missable - These achievements can be missed.

The multiplayer achievements are not that hard and can be boosted in private matches except for one. There are 2 achievements that are a bit grindy, but with the right boosting buddy you will have a blast since you will boost each other EXP while doing suicide/grenade launcher-kills (see what I did there laugh). Most achievements can be done with 2 people but one requires you with at least a group of 4 to start a ranked match. Of course, more of that will be included further.

There are a total of 50 achievements where 1 is story related and 16 are multiplayer. The other 33 achievements are unlocked while playing through the story, collecting the things needed and completing whatever is required in each area. To make it easier for you (and in all honestly for me); I have divided the story into the areas. That way you can collect and complete everything possible on that particular page.

With this wall of text in mind, let's start our history lesson with Lara Croft as your teacher clap!

I don't have many hints and tips to share when it comes to gameplay since the game is pretty straight forward. However, allow me to share you some secrets which will help you to master the main mechanics of this game and it will probably make it easier for you to complete the story as well.

SURVIVAL INSTINCTS

You will see that I will refer to this a lot. That’s because this will make your game easier. Tap the LB-button to trigger them and use them to find your way or to find some collectibles. Other than that, I can’t tell you much more. Get used to them and don’t be afraid to use them!

SKILLS

You have a certain levelling system implemented in this game, which will allow you to gain skill points. Those skill points can be used to upgrade your 'Skill-tree' (listed below). Most experience is earned from doing main story objectives, but you can also earn some by completing the optional tombs and/or challenges and by collecting all collectibles in one category (like with the Relics in the Edo Period Fans-set).

You will also gain experience if you hunt, or scavenge some berry bushes. Some areas have a lot of animals running around and it might be good (especially in the beginning of the game) to kill everything you see or hear until the message appears that the region is 'Hunted Out'. Additionally, you can find orange boxes which contain some experience points for being thorough.

Obtained skill points will not be lost, even when you visit a basecamp and you don't assign them.

SKILL TREE

Skills are divided in three different categories: Survivor, Hunter and Brawler.

As you might have guessed, the Survivor-category will focus on retrieving ammo or on food supplies while using the Survival Instincts. It will also help you get more salvage to upgrade your weapons or let you see collectibles through walls and making them permanently visible on your map (accessed with the Back-button). This should be the category to put in your first few skill points. The skills in this category are the following:
- Animal Instincts: Highlights plants and animals that can be hunted
- Survivalist: More experience for looting plants and killed animals
- Advanced Salvaging: Additional salvage when looting salvage boxes
- Bone Collector: Additional salvage when looting killed animals
- Arrow Retrieval: Retrieve arrows when looting killed enemies or animals
- Scavenging: Additional ammo when looting killed enemies
- Climber's Agility: Increases climbing skills and resistance when falling from heights
- Orienteering: Find hidden secrets in nearby area's while using Survival Instincts
- Cartography: Find optional tombs and treasure maps while using Survival Instincts and makes hidden items appear on the map when discovered using 'Orienteering'

The Hunter-category will mainly focus on weapon-related items such as carrying more ammo, getting more experience when doing finishers or headshots with the box for example and all that stuff. Except for the ammo capacity, this category is useless in the first part of the game. The skills are the following:
- Steady Shot: Increases the aiming time while using the Bow
- Ammo Capacity: Carry more ammo
- Heavy Lifter: Carry the maximum amount of ammo
- Accomplished Killer: Additional EXP for spectacular kills (Headshot, Stealth Kill, Finisher, ...)
- Bow Expert: Additional EXP for finishing enemies with the Bow after dodging a melee attack
- Pistol Expert: Additional EXP for finishing the enemies with the Pistol after dodging a melee attack
- Rifle Expert: Additional EXP for finishing the enemies with the Assault Rifle after dodging a melee attack
- Shotgun Expert: Additional EXP for finishing the enemies with the Shotgun after dodging a melee attack

The Brawler-category will support you on how to fight the enemies later in the game. This is very useful on the hardest difficulty and especially later in the game when more and stronger enemies appear on the scene. However, this should be the last category where you should spend your skill points on. The skills are as following:
- Pain Tolerance: Less injuries while fighting enemies
- Dirty Tricks: Blind enemies with sand in a melee fight
- Axe Strikes: Stun enemies with the Axe
- Axe Expert: Stun heavy enemies with the Axe and kill the normal ones
- Dodge Counter: Pierces the knee of an enemy after dodging to make its movements slower
- Dodge Kill: Execute light-armoured enemies after dodging
- Dodge Kill Mastery: Execute heavy-armoured enemies after dodging

In between these 3 categories, there are also 3 levels of skills. The first level is called Rookie, the second one is called Hardened (and will unlock after you have assigned 7 skill points on Rookie skills) and the third one is called Expert (which will unlock after you've spent 7 skill points on the Hardened skills).

Achievement related you will need to buy each one of these, but do not buy the Dodge Kill and Dodge Kill Mastery just yet, but do so after you have killed 25 incapacitated enemies. When you have Dodge Counter unlocked, and you dodge an enemy attack (B-button), he/she/it will be stunned after you completed the QTE with the Y-button. Kill them fast in those few seconds afterwards with your Axe (Y-button) to score a finisher if they have another Y-prompt above their head. Melee combat will happen a lot so make sure to get this unlocked as soon as possible.

The achievements I was talking about it the one listed below and will not appear in the guide since the behaviour of enemies can be different from one person to another depending on how stealthy you play it:

SALVAGE POINTS

You will need salvage to upgrade your weapons and I highly recommend searching for this as fast as possible. Explore every bit of every area to collect as much as you can. Most salvage can be obtained by looting the salvage crates lying around everywhere, but completing puzzles in optional tombs will be a big boost as well. Also, don’t forget to loot enemy and animal corpses after you have the Bone Collector-skill unlocked since this will probably be your best way to make profit.

Not only salvage can upgrade Lara’s gear. A lot of items will either be received by other AI (from Prying Axe to Combat Axe by getting Roths pack back for example), or Lara will (need to) find them such as the Fire Striker, Lighter, … Other than that, you will need to search each area thoroughly. Starting from the middle of the game before you try broadcasting a radio transmission (I know this is a spoiler but it’s needed), you are able to find a Weapon Part. This will also be one of the main things to upgrade all your weapons. These will be noted in the walkthrough as well.

Fully upgrading your weapons is not possible if you don’t find the plans to modify them, keep that in mind! Each page contains a quote-box in which is mentioned where you can find weapon part(s). It's almost impossible to add them in while writing the story guide, but if you keep an eye out and follow the requirements mentioned; you shouldn't encounter any problems.

While collecting salvage, you will unlock the following achievement along the way:

While looting enemies for salvage, ammo and sometimes weapon upgrades, you'll unlock:

USING THIS GUIDE

You will notice that each page is divided in 3 or 4 sections, depending on what can be found in each area. Each page will start with a brief quote-box, in which you can see how many collectibles of which type can be found while roaming around that specific part of the game as well as a notation of what the challenge(s) include. Right underneath that, a detailed walkthrough will be displayed.

Underneath that section, you can find an overview of where collectibles can be found. I included coordinates as well as a brief explanation, but be aware that some of these collectibles may be picked up when you're busy finishing quests. Underneath the collectible-section, you can find an overview of the challenge(s), which also have the coordinates and a brief explanation on where they can be found. A video can be found under the last collectible-section of that part and will also include where all the collectibles can be found. Big shout out goes out to 360GameTV for their hard work.

If applicable, the page will also contain a section with the optional tomb, with a detailed guide of how to solve the puzzles within the tomb. A video can be found underneath each 'Optional Tomb'-section to provide you a visual if needed. Credit for all those video's go out towards drdrillvga.

That’s all I have to share for now, let’s start our adventure!

After the opening cutscene, you will be a body hanging from a large post. Move the left thumbstick to make Lara start swinging. Aim for the huge body bag and try to push it into the candles. This will cause the body bag to catch fire. Swing into the body bag to set yourself on fire. Behind you, you will see a wooden post covered in blankets. While you are on fire, swing in there to release yourself from your position. After Lara got up, move forward and Lara will automatically pick up a torch. This will stay in your inventory throughout the whole game. Move forward and once you come to the end of your path, set the debris on fire. The game will tell you at this point that everything covered in white blankets can be set on fire. After clearing the debris, you will experience your first puzzle in the game.

Hide ads

After your torch is extinguished, the game will advise you to use “Survival Instincts” (press LB). You will see the flame pot on the right, which will be useful to light your torch back up. Jump on the ledge at the left, and set the rags on fire. This will cause a huge explosion. Go towards the explosion and jump on the ledge. Keep following the path until a guy starts pulling at your legs. Wiggle the left thumbstick back and forth until you are released and continue along the path. At one point, your torch will be extinguished again.

Scavenger’s Den
When entering the room, go immediately to the right, and light up your torch. Set the rags on the left- and right side on fire. When the cage is lifted in the air, go up the narrow path and jump on the cage. Because of your weight, a platform with debris will be lifted when the cage goes down, filling up the container near the water beacon. Set the debris on fire and press Y to push it into the explosive barrels a little bit further. Jump down and run towards the exit you just created. You will be awarded with 250 EXP. Run down the lay down path and you will soon have your first two gaps to jump over. Keep going until the guy from earlier starts bugging you again. Follow the controls on screen to escape (another 25 EXP will be awarded). Continue along the path until you have to leap over a giant gap. Follow the instructions onscreen if you want to see the sun again. Dying here means getting reset to the start of the collapsing part (my girl found out the hard way smile).

TR Xbox One - P03I02

Once you are out of the cave, and after a short cutscene, continue along the path. The game will make you familiar with wall scrambling and hanging from ledges, which is not too difficult to understand. At one point, you will drop through the floor and take a long slide down. Continue along the path and at some point, Lara will find a Walkie Talkie and one match. Continue along the path to find an abandoned campfire and the game will automatically change into a cutscene with Lara building a fire and her watching some footage on a camera she found. At this point, you will find Lara in the Coastal Forest.

Ghost Hunter: Shoot down 10 dream catchers

WEAPON PARTS:

None

At the campfire, the game will create an auto save and this will also be your best friend in terms of upgrading your weapons and/or abilities but will be helpful as well when it comes to fast traveling. This way, you can go back to pretty much every area you have already visited for missed collectibles or to complete certain challenges.

Hide ads

This will also be the first area to complete challenge or the first area to contain collectibles. To activate the challenges, you must perform an action to be able to complete it (which, in this case is, shooting one of the dream catchers). The collectibles can be done at any point, however, if you wish to complete the game along with all the collectibles, I advise you to pick them up as soon as you can. Anyway, let's get back to the story:

Sheltered Ridge
After the first cutscene, the game will tell you to find some food. Follow the path down the mountain. Killing and skinning animals will be a good source of salvage at the moment, so I can recommend doing this as much as you can so you can start upgrading your gear whenever possible. If you ran out of ammo, you can always scavenge the area for berries or other fruits. Anyway, after a short while you will be in an open place and the game will focus on the corpse hanging from a branch of a tree. As keenly as Lara is, she notices the crossbow and it's your task to grab it successfully. Climb on top of the bunker on the left and jump over the gap. Go onto the branch and wait for the corpse to swing in your direction. Move the thumbstick in his direction when you think the time is right to do another face-plant. As a reward, you will get the crossbow.

The area has a lot of ammo, so I will recommend to you what I did before: kill a lot of animals. Every kill will award you with 50 EXP and will also give you some salvage, which you can spend for upgrades. After a region is 'Hunted Out' (as the game will tell you), you can stop hunting since you will only get 1 EXP afterwards for each animal you kill and skin. Anyway, after getting the crossbow; you will need to find a deer. The best thing to do is probably approaching them from above, since they won't run away that fast. Try shooting it in the head; it will save you some ammo (you can't retrieve arrows until you bought the skill to do so). After you shot it down, head towards it and watch the cutscene of Lara skinning the animal. Fulfilling this task will award you with 150 EXP.

After this you can either opt to explore this forest or you can go back to the campsite. Exploring might be the best option, since there are no enemies and you can pick up all the collectibles and/or complete the "Ghost Hunter"-challenge while doing so. When you return to the camp, you will have earned a skill point. These will come in handy along Lara's adventures as they will add useful perks and/or additions to Lara's skillset.

Now you’ll be told to search for food so follow the pathway to left continuing down mountain. Cross over brook go to the left of bunker and climb up the side and jump across (forward and A). Head over branch on right where you will need to time your reach (left analog stick to the right) to the swing of the man. Pick the skill you like and buy it. In the end, you will need to have all skills for two achievements. For now, I advise you to buy the skill that grants you more salvage after looting corpses or dead animals. For buying one skill, you will be awarded another 150 EXP.

Coastal Forest 1

After the cutscene, you will see Lara be awakened by music. Head towards the same area where you got the crossbow and you will notice the bunker is now opened. Enter the bunker and you should see a hatch on the ground. Press B to climb down the ladder and follow the path. You will find two boxes: one will contain some salvage and another will contain a relic. Search the perimeters thoroughly to find your path being blocked by some barrels. Light them up with your torch and continue. In the next room, you will find another tool that will be an excellent help in the near future: the Pry Axe (and 250 EXP as well!). Go to the door on the left and tap X repeatedly to open it. Return to where you entered and once you are outside, another 100 EXP will be awarded.

You will notice some voices, so press LB to see where they came from. Move along the path and you will find Lara's friend Sam alongside a mysterious man, Mathias. There will be a long cutscene explaining what you and the remaining crew were hoping to find on the island so it will be worth it to watch it. While viewing the back story, it might be good to know that you just found the second camp in this area.

Coastal Forest 2

Forest Ruins
After the long cutscene, Lara will wake up and notice Sam and Mathias are gone. To make it worse, she will fall into a bear trap and she will be attacked by wolves as well. Quickly shoot them as they come up (the game will go in some kind of slow motion) and after killing 3 wolves, 3 of Lara's old friends will come to the rescue. 2 of them will go on a lookout for Sam, while you need to keep Dr. Whitman some company. Feel free to free roam this area, since you most likely pick up three achievements while at it:

If you pre-ordered the game, you will most likely have the optional tomb "Tomb of The Lost Adventurer". More information is found at the bottom of the page. To continue the story, make your way towards Dr. Whitman. Before you get to him, you will encounter the last campfire in the area.

Coastal Forest 3

The Gate
Sitting down at this camp will trigger Lara's Journals (Lara's Journals #1: Shipwrecked). At some points in the game, it will automatically trigger Lara to start talking which means that this journal will be added towards your collectible progress. You will need 10 Journals to complete be able to get all the achievements in the game, but these will come during the story so you shouldn't worry about it.

He will ask you to upgrade the Prying Axe, but don't do it just yet. You will see a text balloon floating above his head which indicates you can still talk to him. Do this 5 times, so you don't miss the 'Chatterbox'-achievement. After he is done talking about the signs on the giant gate, search the area for crates with salvage and once you found 50, you should have enough. To upgrade your gear, find a basecamp and interact with it. On the menu, you will see Skills and Gear. Select Gear and you will see everything you use in the game. Select the weapon of choice (in this case, the Axe) and select the upgrades you want to buy. For the Prying Axe, there is only one upgrade throughout the whole game you need to buy, so buy it with the Salvage you might have already collected so far. Salvage is a very important part of the game so be sure to take your time and scout around every area since most hold some cases with Salvage in this. Salvage is also earned from looting animals and/or killing enemies, but you will need to buy the skill before you do. I highly recommend you do this as soon as possible.

Continue your quest and go talk with Dr. Whitman. Interact with valve and mash X to open up the gate. Follow the path while having a brief conversation with the kind doctor. At one point, the game will trigger a cutscene and to avoid spoilers, I will jump to the next (written) part.

Coastal Forest 4

Once you regain control of Lara, don't waste time and go in cover behind the small wall. Since Lara's hands are tied behind her back, she is defenseless and it's better to play as stealthy as possible through this part since you will die upon detection. Hide behind the wall until two enemies have walked by and move to the left side of the path. This is quite open so watch out you don't get seen. Once you are near a guard, wait until he moves to continue. Carefully move on until you can enter a small cabinet on the right-side of the path. The leader of the group will tell his minions to look out for the escaped prisoner and soon he will spot you. Be quick to fulfil the QTE's on the screen.

At some point, you will need to reach out for a Semi-Automatic Pistol and after some wrestling; you will shoot his eye out. For some strange reason there are no other enemies here, but don't bother turning back since you will still be killed in one hit. Instead, continue down the path. Since you will not encounter anyone for a short while, keep going until a new cutscene starts.

Coastal Forest 5

Before we move on, it might be better to share the following with you:
Since your lethal gear exists out of 2 different weapons, you need to know that you will need to kill 35 human enemies with the Semi-Automatic Pistol and 50 human enemies with the Makeshift Longbow. Headshots are obviously the most effective and will also reward you with more EXP. While going for the kills with the Pistol and the Bow, you will most likely unlock an achievement for getting 50 headshots as well:

You will encounter a few goons and the game will notify you to clear them out with Pistol. It will also go in slow motion and from this point on, you will encounter quite a lot ammo resupply cases. When the fight is over, loot the bodies (which you will need to do from this point on as well) and continue down the path. Open a wooden cabinet with the help of your Axe. Once you are inside, some enemies will try to set the cabinet on fire so start mashing Y on some breakable barriers to create an exit.

The enemies will think you burned inside (unless you blow your stealth cover), so be sure to kill some enemies while they are unaware of your presence to get the following achievement a little bit faster:

Continue down the path eliminating enemies where needed to continue up the mountain. Use the ladder an enemy used to get down reaching a new area: Mountain Temple. This area is rich of collectibles and you return to this 3 times during the story and getting everything done is impossible until you return for the third time but the page afterwards will of course help you out where needed; let's continue! At this point, you will find a new Base Camp and you will have Fast Travel unlocked! Sitting down at this Base Camp will also unlock the second part of Lara's Journals (Lara's Journal #2: Nightmares).

Coastal Forest 6

However, challenges will not appear on your mini map. To access your mini map, press the back button on your controller.

To find this one, go up a cliff overhanging the area next to the destroyed bridge. Leap over to the beam in front of you overhanging the destroyed bridge. At the end you should be able to jump onto a levelled platform where you can find this handy collectible on a crate.

CHALLENGE: GHOST HUNTER

For this challenge, you need to shoot down 10 Totems. These are hanging on several locations mostly on trees, but some can be found on cliffs as well. Completing this challenge will unlock:

TOMB OF THE LOST ADVENTURER

Coordinates 712385; 3416099

Tomb of The Lost Adventurer 1

The game will always notify you when you are close to one of these tombs and these serve as small side quests in which you can expand the story of the Yamatai a little bit. This particular tomb is really easy and only requires you to set 5 different sets of rag on fire.

When you enter the huge area from the tunnel, the first thing you need to do is shoot the lantern near the rags on the left side. This will cause the left airplane wing to fall after the trees are burned. Go through the water and climb the left behind the wing that just dropped. You will find lanterns, which you can throw to the rags. In case you miss, they will respawn so don't worry about running out. Throw it at the rag right in front of you covering the trunk of the tree. This will shift the plain a little bit more.

Move around the area, near the tail of the plane and jump on the platform on the opposite side of where you've found the lanterns. Once there, shoot the lantern overhanging a branch and a crate. This will cause a swing to be stuck on the earlier mentioned branch. Jump on the crates and hang on the branch. This will cause the swing to crash inside a hut full of flammable debris. The fire will eventually spread onto the rags of the right wing of the plane.

Go to the opposite side of this area, and while traveling the water you might encounter a tunnel. There is a room behind the wall you are blocked on with lots of salvage- and experience boxes. To enter this room, you need to revisit the area after you have obtained the Grenade Launcher attachment. Anyway, climb onto the platform and you will notice a lantern hanging near a big wooden structure. As you might have guesses already, shoot it to cause the structure to get a bit looser. Press Y to push it over and the fire will spread to the remaining supporting rags underneath the plane, causing it to drop.

Go back to where you picked up the lantern in the first step to destroy some debris. To do this, stand near the edge of the area and aim for the hole in the top of the plane. When you've done this, the puzzle is solved and you are able to climb the plane until you reach the top. There, you will find a temple with a treasure chest. Open it to be rewarded with 150 salvage and 250 EXP.

Tomb of The Lost Adventurer 2

To return to the Coastal Forest, jump on the zip line and continue down the tunnel where you first entered this area. Upon completing, you will unlock the following achievement:

If you obtained a skill point, you can make your way towards a campfire to assign it.

CHALLENGES:
Pyromaniac - Shoot 5 lanterns in the Mountain Temple

WEAPON PARTS:
None

This area is enemy free for a moment, so you can either opt to free roam a little bit to collect the collectibles, completing the Pyromaniac challenge or advancing in the story. For this part, we’ll take the latter and all you really have to do is follow the main path. You will encounter a handful of enemies and you will need to take them out or avoid them if you wish to advance in the story. Note that you can’t return to the previous area, if you try to take the ladder down; Lara will fall down and instantly die.

For the first two enemies you encounter, take them out stealthily (in other words: use the bow). Proceed forward on the main path until you come across some debris. On the left you should see a plank with some white paint on it, which means you can climb or mantle it. Climb over the small wooden wall and continue until the game teaches you to shoot lanterns to set flammable debris on fire. This will be one of the main elements in the game and I advise you to use your arrows at all possible occasions. This lantern is also part of the Pyromaniac-challenge, and shooting this will activate the challenge and rewards you with 10 EXP.

Mountain Temple (1)

Continue through the building and climb up the wall once you are stuck. This will introduce you to the main area and the game will also tell you to do a stealth kill on the goon right in front of you. To do so, press the Y button and tap it afterwards to make a successful stealth kill. This will also be a main element in the game and you should make use of it as much as possible and that for the following reasons: you save ammo and you get more EXP while doing so. Anyway, proceed and stealth kill the second enemy. Proceed forward until you reach a ledge you need to jump too.

Proceed through the next area slowly, planning your attacks on the enemies. Use your Survival Instincts to help you kill enemies (when they have a red glow, they are being watched and stealth kills won’t be possible). Keep progressing and after a while you will encounter a new type of enemy which is best noticeable about his weapons: Molotov cocktails. These should be your priority so take them out quickly with a weapon of your choice and once the area is clear, keep moving until you encounter a zip line. Use it and keep moving forward. This area has some collectibles so take your time to pick them up as this area is enemy free anyway. Proceed forward until you reach a cliff. While getting closer to it, Lara should automatically start scrambling. You will get a QTE which involves you wiggling your left thumbstick and once you get to the top of that cliff, a new part of the story will start.

CHALLENGE: PYROMANIAC

For this challenge, you will need to shoot 5 lanterns. All of these will be found on ceilings and one is already covered through story progression. The bow will be the best choice to destroy these five lanterns.

Lantern #1: 712429; 3416144
Right after the ladder you climbed up before you each the base camp, this will be hanging on the corner of the first building to the left.

Lantern #2: 712433; 3416148
This one is right above the basecamp, look up while looking at the waterfall in the distance.

Lantern #4: 712435; 3416155
Story related and cannot be missed.

Lantern #5: 712436; 3416145
Once you’ve used the zip line, look at the most eastern part of the area to find this one hanging from a corner of a building.

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE – PART I

COLLECTIBLES:
Camps – 5
Documents – 7
Relics – 6
GPS Caches – 15
Treasure Maps – 2
Tombs – 2

CHALLENGES:
Illumination - Light up 10 statues
Egg Poacher – Scavenge 5 bird nests

WEAPON PARTS:
Pistol - Inside the Hall of Ascension (Optional Tomb) treasure room
Bow - Found while looting an enemy corpse or salvage crate after meeting Roth on Village Overlook (view page 11 for more details)
Rifle - Found in a salvage crate in a net (you'll need to Fire Striker)
Rifle - Found in a salvage crate near Village Plateau

Once you’ve reached the top of the Mountain, you will trigger a cutscene which shows you that Roth is fending off a horde of wolves. Roth is badly hurt and asks you to retrieve his backpack. Easy? Think again! A wolf snatched it and took it with him towards his lair. Time to cover some more height!

Hide ads

Village Plateau
Make your way towards the buildings in the background. If you activate the Survival Instincts, you will encounter a cabin between you and the mission marker. Climb the open area towards the first floor. Continue your path through the small cabins until you come across a plane wreck. Scramble up the debris in front of you and jump over towards the other wreckage pieces hanging across the river. Move on until you can jump over towards a rock and keep going up until you have no other way except for crossing the same wreck but now on the top side. The wreckage will eventually change its position because of Lara’s weight, when that happens you will need to jump over towards the ledges marked in white. Be sure to press X as soon as possible to tighten Lara’s grip and keep moving up until you are on the top. In front of you, you should see the wolf its lair.

Mountain Village (1)

Light up your torch and enter the lair. You will notice that Lara is on the edge since she will move much slower then she normally does. Use your Survival Instincts (this area is pretty dark) and keep moving until you finally picked up Roths pack. Turn around and travel back towards the entrance until you encounter a wolf. Instead of the other wolves you encounter in the wild, you will get a QTE. Keep following the instructions on screen to avoid Lara’s horrible death and once you’ve killed the beast, move on. No wolves will be attacking you for a while now and once you are back outside, take the zip line down to get to Roth fast.

Mountain Village (2)

After the cutscene where Lara was watching over Roth while he was recovering, Roth will reward your effort by upgrading your Prying Axe which will allow Lara to scale rocks. After this you have the chance to talk to Roth 4 times. Be sure to this now, otherwise you might miss the ‘Chatterbox’-achievement. After you’ve talked with Roth, sit down at the campfire (I’m sure you should have a skill point by now) to trigger the third part of Lara’s Journals (Lara's Journals #3: Prepared for The Worst). Once you are down, prepare for a long way up with your upgraded Prying Axe. Make your way north again, towards the buildings and use your Survival Instincts to allow you to see the first scalable wall. The game will give you a small tutorial about scaling, so make use of it until you are on the top of the mountain where you can see a waterfall and a scalable rock in the middle. While advancing, you will encounter a pop up saying that a Hidden Tomb ("Tomb of The Unworthy") is nearby. The explanation of this tomb can be found at the bottom of the page, so let us focus on the story in this part of this walkthrough.

Mountain Village (3)

When you reached the rock in the middle of the river, you will encounter 3 goons in this small area: one on the right (which you can easily stealth kill with your bow if you waited long enough for the guards to go back to their posts) and two on the left. The two on the left can be taken out quite easily by shooting the lantern on top. The fire will cause the two ‘tough’ guys to panic. Take advantage of this by killing them both quickly with a weapon of your choosing. Take a break to sweep the area for collectibles and afterwards use the walkway to near the waterfall to continue the adventure. While making use of the Prying Axe, you will again cover a lot ground while levelling. Keep advancing until you are able to cross a bridge across the large river. Obviously the bridge will collapse at some point, and you will need to be quick to get the Prying Axe attached to the scalable wall. Keep making your way up to finish this part of the story and get 100 EXP as a bonus.

Mountain Village (4)

While continuing the path, you’ll start a conversation between Lara, Reyes and Alex. At the end of this small path, you can either take the zip line down or you can drop/jump down. Whatever you do, some enemies will know you are there. Pick them all off with a weapon of your choice while avoiding the Molotovs getting thrown at your head. After the fight, loot the corpses and a salvage box you can find in a net on the left (to make a torch, find the fire on your right close by); and continue through the narrow crack in between two rocks. Proceed as you normally would, and you should find another campfire, which leads us to another area.

COLLECTIBLES

You revisit Mountain Village three times during the story and some collectibles can only be picked up on your way towards a new area. Since this is the first page with Mountain Village on, this will be the page with all the collectibles listed. The next few pages where some parts of this area are being described on will not have any collectibles listed so keep this page open until you reach Shantytown.

Note: For both Treasure Maps, you will need to enter the optional tombs, solve the puzzle(s) and scavenge the big treasure box. You can find the guide at the bottom of this page.

CHALLENGE: ILLUMINATION

This challenge is fairly easy, but some statues cannot be reached or lit up until you have continued in the story. All statues will have additional explanations on how to light them up, even when there is no flame close to it. Alternatively, you can also wait until you have the Fire Striker (you will get this after you sent a radio signal) and get all 10 of them that way.

Illumination Statue #1: 712470; 3416161
In front of the Village Plateau basecamp. Light your torch first by holding X near fire.

Illumination Statue #2: 712472; 3416201
After you have killed the first 3 enemies, you can find this one on the left near the top floor of the left building. Light it up by lighting your torch on the right (there is also a salvage box there) and return.

Illumination Statue #3: 712464; 3416188
Once you have transmitted the signal, you will have the Fire Striker, which will be very useful to complete this challenge. You can find this one very shortly after returning. Since you have the Fire Striker, you don’t need to search for a fire source; but instead just hold down the action button.

Illumination Statue #4: 712481; 3416184
After returning for the radio tower, go inside the northern hut and jump over to the small area with the statue. Use the Fire Striker to light your torch

Illumination Statue #5: 712454; 3416151
This one is fairly close to GPS Cache #10. On your way back from the radio tower, follow the path of a crashed plane. A bit further, you should see an interactive wall that you can scramble. Once up, you will see the statue in front of you.

Illumination Statue #6: 712488; 3416194
On your way to the blue smoke signal, you will hear two guards talking. A little bit before you encounter them, you should see a small cave on the left. Enter it and light it up.

Illumination Statue #7: 712501; 3416186
On your way to the blue smoke signal, locate the high area west of it (or in other words, stay close to the left side of this area). After shooting some ropedarts, you will encounter this statue.

Illumination Statue #8: 712508; 3416203
On your way to the blue smoke signal, make your way to the northern part of the higher ledges by using your ropedarts.

Illumination Statue #9: 712521; 3416191
Near the Mountain Descent basecamp, go left of the destroyed bridge. Swim towards the waterfall and you should see the statue on the left.

Illumination Statue #10: 712498; 3416184
Near the Mountain Descent basecamp, go right of the destroyed bridge and shoot a ropedart up to the area with a salvage box. Follow the path while crossing some wooden structures until you jump over to a ledge. Follow the path to find this last statue in front of you.

CHALLENGE: EGG POACHER

This challenge can only be completed once you are returning from the radio tower and after you’ve met Roth near the Village Overlook basecamp. Interact with the next using the X-button to complete a step in this challenge. The first two nests can be found before you go to the radio tower.

Nest #1: 712458; 3416172
On a roof from a building where you have cross the plane wreckage to either get Roths pack back or to make your way to a radio tower. Once you are on the roof, this wreckage should be on your left.

Nest #2: 712470; 3416197
When you killed the first 3 enemies while making your way to the radio tower, enter the hut on the left and make your way to the top floor. On the other side of where you’ve found a collectable, you will see a crate next to a wall. Use it to reach the roof and loot the nest.

Nest #3: 712463; 3416153
Once you have returned from the radio tower and after taking the zip line down, locate the hut on the right. Climb it to access the roof and the nest.

Nest #4: 712509; 3416201
On your way to the blue smoke signal, make your way to the northern part of this area. Took a peek at the lower ledges and you should be able to find an uprooted tree, which you can use to jump over to a small ledge. Do so and the nest will be near the edge of this ledge.

Nest #5: 712510; 3416187
On our way to the blue smoke signal, shoot with the ropedarts to cross a big gap close to the signal. Once you have crossed the gap, look around the edges for a spot to drop down from. One of the lower ledges will contain the last nest to complete this challenge.

OPTIONAL TOMB: TOMB OF THE UNWORTHY

Coordinates: 712478; 3416187

This tomb is close to the Wolves Lair, in which you need to find Roths pack. However, you will need the Climbing Axe (obtained during ‘Cry for Help’) to get to this tomb. To enter it, make your way to the waterfalls (don’t forget to pick up the GPS cache!). Follow the path through a waterfall until you come across a small basecamp and proceed until you come to a rather small room.

You will see three corpses hanging in a cage in the middle of the room and it’s your goal to burn them all, so jump over to an edge where you can see a torch. Light up your personal torch and jump over to the cage to burn them.

Make your way back to where you entered the room and push the cage on your right. Tis will make the cage go up and you will need to jump over so you can climb all the way up and jump over to the ledge above the room.

Before you can actually reach the altar, you will need to jump to the left when standing on the middle cage to a scalable wall. Use your Climbing Axe and follow the path to the left hand side. Once you can go up a ledge, do so and scavenge the box in front of you. It will award you with 250 Salvage Points, a map of Relics and Documents (Treasure Map #1) and 1,250 EXP.

OPTIONAL TOMB: HALL OF ASCENSION

Coordinates: 712502; 3416205

This tomb can be explored once you return from the radio tower and once you are on your way to the blue smoke signal. This tomb is kind of on your path, with only a small sidestep to the north-east; but you shouldn’t have any problems finding the entrance since Hidden Tombs are already marked from the outside with white chalk drawings on the outside.

Enter the tomb and follow the path while using your torch or Survival Instincts to find your way. At some point you will come across a basecamp and behind it you should see a huge building. It’s your goal to go there and start the puzzle to raid some treasures.

This puzzle is a little bit harder to solve, but if you follow this guide to the letter you shouldn’t have any issues. First, interact with the mechanism on the left. This will close all shutters and wind flow will be less heavy. Go to the mechanism in front of where you enter and interact with it when the first shutter opens. When you gain control again (the two other shutters should still be closed), climb onto the platform and wait until the wind makes it move towards the right hand side of the entrance. Once it does, quickly jump onto the interactive wall and the hard part is over.

Keep making your way to the left hand side along the ledges while jumping when needed. At some point you should be able to climb up the altar. Do so and raid the big box; it will award you with 250 Salvage Points, a Pistol Part, a map of the GPS Caches (Treasure Map #2) and 1,250 EXP.

Broken Tunnel
From the basecamp, proceed until you reach a large area. There is a group of enemies here, so you better come up with a tactic so you don’t get overwhelmed. Go through the tunnel while following the narrow path and stealth kill the guy in front of you. Proceed and take cover. You should see a big light, and my advice to you is to destroy it by shooting it with an arrow. Enemies will panic for a short amount of time, but wait until they have returned to their post and pick them off one by one. Use your Survival Instincts while doing that: enemies marked in red are being watched, enemies with a white glow can be safely killed.

Hide ads

Once you’ve cleared the area, go inside the building in front of you and kill the guard doing the electric with a stealth kill. Make your way up and there should be another guard at the top of the set of stairs. Stealth kill this guy as well and then quickly find cover as there are still some enemies remaining. First, shoot the guy next to the big light when the other guard is not patrolling towards him. Once you’ve killed him, quickly pick off the guard patrolling and continue towards the building the previous two enemies were on. Search the level for an experience box and a GPS cache. Once you’re done exploring, make your way past the light onto the wall you can scramble and proceed on your way up until you can take a zip line down. This will take us to the next area.

When you took the zip line down, you will be in a new building. Proceed through the water and ones you walk on normal ground again, make your way to the next room slowly. In the corridor ahead, you can see two guys having a chat. Shoot the explosive barrel in between them to get rid of them but stay alert since another enemy is heading your way. Once you’ve killed them, you can either take your time and explore the rooms on the left and right or continue down the path. I will focus on continuing, so go up the set of stairs that last enemy came down from. Proceed as you would normally, until you see another enemy rushing towards you. Kill him and move on.

Continue until you reach a wall in front of you and look at your left side. You will see a hole to climb through. In the big room, there’s no door either so continue forward and climb through the hole on the left. Once in the small room on the other side of the big one; go right and open the valve with your Axe. Lara will start to choke (and an enemy will start laughing) but don’t fear since you can backtrack safely to the big room you just crossed. There are some lanterns on the ground so pick one up and aim it with LT through the hole you’ve just went through. Squeeze RT to toss it to see who has the last laugh.

Mountain Base (1)

Continue and pick up the WWII Submachine Gun from the crusher Solarii. Shoot him through the head to ‘help him’ and continue on to the next room. Search it for collectibles, ammo and salvage. Once you’re done, go to the left hand side in a small corridor and be sure to have the WWII Submachine Gun equipped.

Note: You will need to kill 75 enemies with this gun to unlock another weapon-related achievement. All kills will count towards this achievement (headshots, normal kills, finishers).

You will be blinded for a second and the game will go in a slow motion mode, so start spraying your new found weapon to kill them fast. Once the slow motion sequence is done, continue picking off the enemies until the whole room is cleared and proceed forward after this fight. Just before you reach the control panel, a Sword-enemy will drop down so kill him and run straight forward to trigger a cutscene.

Mountain Base (2)

Map Room
There is nothing to do here except for searching for collectibles, restocking your ammo, upgrading your gear and/or skills at the Base Camp. Proceed to the left to continue once you are finished with everything.

COLLECTIBLES

Base Camp #1: Map Room (712433; 3416295)
This should be automatically discovered. When you make a call to Reyes and your other friends, you should find this on the right hand side.

Document #1 (Confessions of a Solarii – The Best Job): 712444; 3416268
You will find this at the start on a desk when you get out of the water. Nearly impossible to miss

Document #2 (Wartime Intelligence – Scientist: Secret Project): 712449; 3416306
After you retrieved the WWII Submachine Gun, you can find this on a desk turned upside down in the first room you enter afterwards. On the left of this document, you can see a cabinet with two with handprints.

Document #3 (Dairies of A Madman – Alone): 712432; 3416286
On a desk in the communications room.

If you collected all documents up to this point, you will unlock:

GPS Cache #1: 712453; 3416306
After acquiring the rifle, look in a corner next to the left hand side wall to find this on the ground.

GPS Cache #2: 712436; 3416302
This can be found in the room where lots of enemies have spawned. It’s found on the ground next to the right hand side wall behind some gas pipes leading up to the ceiling. Enemies might have taken cover behind these.

CHALLENGE: NON-BELIEVERS

These banners are easily missed. Most of them can be found just before the room in which you will be ambushed, but it’s impossible to get this challenge complete unless you backtrack a little bit.

Banner #1: 712443; 3416287
After you killed the two guys near the explosive barrel, you will be able to find this in a room on the left hand side of the hall. To ignite this one, head in the room to the right and backtrack all the way back to light up your torch on a fire barrel.

Banner #2: 712457; 3416286
In the room with the oil lambs on the ground. Throw a lamp towards it to light it up.

Banner #3: 712458; 3416298
In the room where you acquired the rifle. To ignite this one, backtrack all the way back to the spot where you’ve lighten up your torch for the first banner.

Banner #4: 712432; 3416299
In one of the rooms of the area where you have been ambushed. To burn the poster, you need to backtrack once again to the barrel you’ve used for Banner #1 and #3.

Banner #5: 712433; 3416288
In the communications room, a fire barrel can be found nearby.

Continue along the path, picking off the enemy of the building in front of you and on your right side. Keep an eye out of those annoying Molotovs as well as those guys that run up to you with a machete in their hands. When you reach the U-turn, pick off the enemies on your left and from the building in front of you. Once you’ve cleared the area, you have a minute to catch your breath. Climb the building in front of you and position yourself so you can see people coming from the zip lines in front of you. There should be 2 and every time an enemy comes down from one of these, pick them of with your rifle. You have to do this 10 times to unlock another achievement (which should pop later in the game, this guide will remember you when you reach that point):

  • Deadeye

10 enemies shot off zip lines.

Continue picking off the enemies from the tower in front of you and the guys on the ‘ground’-floor. Once the area is clear, drop down so you can enter the big building you’ve picked off enemies from. Before you have a chance to enter it, a shielded enemy will come out. He may seem like a threat but you can dodge his attacks rather easily. When he attacks you, counter it and use the Y button to pierce his skull with your Prying Axe. When he is dead, no more enemies should spawn. Loot his corps to find your first weapon part (Bow Part 1/2). From this point on, you will need to loot every enemy corps or salvage crate since some of them will contain weapon parts. They appear on random occasions and I can’t really help you get all of them unless you are thorough enough. I will mention where I found them to give you a guide line, but remember that this is a guideline and not a guarantee that you will find that exact same part in the exact same location. You will need to find all parts for all weapons and upgrade them with the salvage you find or loot to unlock the following achievements:

Enter the building and once you reach the top, you will be outside again. A bit further to the left you can find the second Base Camp and right in front of you, you will see the radio tower you will need to climb. Go to the base camp to assign skill points and/or salvage to your gear.

Radio Tower
From this point on, this is very easy. Go up to the zipline to enter the area where you can start your ascend. When you reach the top, you will have a mini game involving your two thumbsticks where you have to find the correct broadcast in order to send out a S.O.S.-signal. Enjoy the cutscene and once it is over, slide the zipline down towards a new area.

Base Exterior (2)

In this new area, look into the barrack to the right to find the Fire Striker. This will allow you to light your torch without having to find a source of fire first. When you’ve done that, you can either hunt for the rats if you still need to kill small animals or you can follow the instructions on screen to light up the fuel tanks. Go left to open the valve and to release some a puddle of fuel and then light it up with your new toy. Another cutscene will start right afterwards and another twist in the story will force you to find a new way off this island…

When you blew up the fuel tanks, a giant explosion occurs and you will have to move Lara down a slope while avoiding debris by using your left thumbstick. At some point, Lara will fall off the slope and you will need to press X quick to hang on a ledge. Climb up and continue your path on the right. After the cutscene and starting from your first jump across, everything will start to collapse and it'll all run on an invisible timer, so you will need to move forward quick and effective for a successful escape.

When the timer stops briefly, you will see a shielded enemy walking up to the pilot and killing him. This is where your dodge counters will come in handy, press B and any direction to avoid enemy damage, shoot him in the leg with your bow and press Y to do a powerful melee attack. After piercing his beautiful skull with your Axe, you are allowed to move forward and bringing you to a new area. Be sure to scan the rooms for salvage boxes before you leave the area.

After escaping from the collapsing part and after the conversation with Roth, continue down the path. At some point, you will be caught in a snare. Afterwards, act quickly and shoot the grapple near your feet to drop down.

Mountain Pass (1)

Upon freeing yourself, a short cutscene will trigger and Lara will have found ropes. These will only be used in combination with your bow. And will come in handy when you want to reach previous unreachable locations. The game will offer you another way of using the rope darts though: shoot a perch with RB and remove it to instantly kill the enemies on there (in this case two). You can shoot an enemy with a rope dart and pull the rope (or your left thumbstick) to get rid of him as well. Do this 5 times in total to earn the following achievement:

Get rid of all the enemies and make your way to the top of the area, scavenging for salvage boxes when you encounter them. Shoot the wired box on your right with the rope darts to lower it. Climb it and move to the left. Progress and the game will make you comfortable with rope bridges, which you create by shooting a rope dart into an in-rope-covered-stocking (or whatever you want to call it). When you crossed the gap, remove the door in front of you by shooting rope darts into the ropes and continue down the path. Go through the new opening and continue forward. You will find yourself back at Mountain Pass and back with Roth.

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE - PART II

Note: Although the second part is mentioned here, collectibles can still be found here.

Mountain Village - Part III (1)

Village Overlook
After the cutscene, be sure to talk to Roth no less than 4 times so you don’t miss the “Chatterbox”-achievement.

Shoot a rope dart into the stocking and zipline down. There will be three enemies here, so get rid of them by all means. In this part, I encountered Bow Part 2/2 by scavenging a salvage box inside the hut on the right. After killing the enemies and after entering the hut, a conversation will be triggered between Roth and Reyes. Inside this hut there are two collectibles to be found but one can only be accessed after you have the shotgun (a bit further in the story). Continue down the zip lines, completing the Illumination and/or Egg Poacher-challenge (you will come across these in one way or another during this part of the story). Continue your path using your rope darts to reach the signal (the path is straight forward and shouldn’t cause you any difficulties). When you reach the middle of the upper level of this area, shoot a rope dart into the stocking next to the smoke signal and mount it. Halfway through, you will trigger a small cutscene. Press X quickly when Lara falls down and climb on the ridge. Lara will notice that Captain Jessop is gone, so all you need to do now is find him. Follow the path up front, which will lead you to another area.

When you encounter one of the statues of the Illumination challenge on your left, Alex will start a conversation with Lara. Continue forward until you reach a cave and the only base camp this part of the story has to offer.

Arid Canyon
Continue down the caves until you encounter Captain Jessop on a bridge. Upon closing in on him, a cutscene will start and right afterwards you will be captive in a new area, described on the next page.

It will seem like a déja vù since Lara will be hanging from the ceiling again, luckily it’s not upside down now and you don’t have to set yourself on fire to set yourself free. Chasm Monastery (1)

Follow the path until you slide down and keep walking afterwards. Soon you will trigger a cutscene where Lara spots a destructible barrier and a corps with the Trench Shotgun, the last main weapon in the game. From this point on, you will need to work yourself towards killing 40 enemies with the shotgun to unlock the following achievement:

  • Widowmaker

40 enemies killed with the shotgun.

Chasm Monastery (2)

Besides this small remark, let’s continue our escape and enter the new area. You should hear enemy voices and Lara will soon say that they are looking for her so prepare yourself as it won’t be a stealth escape. Follow the straight forward path and you will trigger a cutscene. Take a close look, as this is what the game all about is. During that cutscene, enemies will spot Lara. You might notice enemies sliding down from zip lines. This is a good boost towards the 10 you might need to unlock the “Deadeye”-achievement. Kill the ground enemies in any fashion you desire, but be sure to use the shotgun (easiest way to kill those enemies as it is a one hit kill) whenever you see someone going down the line.

The puzzle to exit the room is very simple. You can see a big gate behind the bell. Pull the bell towards you with the Rope Darts and smash it into the gate to open it. Afterwards, continue your path through the tunnel to encounter the only Base Camp in this area. You can opt to sit down and to assign skill points, upgrading your gear or you can carry on with the story. You will hear enemies in the distance, but you shouldn’t worry about them at all.

Chasm Monastery (3)

Sheltered Alcove
Blast through the barrier with the shotgun and continue. You will notice there is a small breeze so pay attention to your screen since a QTE might show up. Follow the straight forward path until you reach another room with a bell on (or in) the ground. Take out the enemies while watching out of the shielded guy and loot their bodies to recover ammo and to receive salvage and continue your path off the destruction up the ramp at the end of the roof leading to the left. Once you are up the platform on the second floor, you should see the bell hanging at the back as well as a rather small metal ball. On both sides of this platform you can find valves to open up the ‘windows’. While facing the wall with the valves, locate the one on your right. Opening this will move the metal ball slightly to the left. Use a Rope Dart to destroy the pillar behind it to lower the bell. Close the valve and do the same with the valve on the left. With both pillars destroyed, open both valves and use a Rope Dart to swing the metal ball into the beam that is holding the bell to destroy it. Depending on what difficulty you play, you will get enemies to spawn. While writing this guide, I was playing on the easiest difficulty and I only had enemies coming for me at the point where I opened both valves and just before I had a chance of swinging the metal ball into the bell. After destroying the third beam, it will make the bell fall straight down, whilst opening an exit for Lara. The breeze will force Lara to fall in the newly opened gap, but there isn’t time to catch your breath seeing as a big soldier (further mentioned as Oni) is chasing 2 Solarii so all you can do is run for your life. Follow the path whilst avoiding debris and other parts that hinder to make your way towards safety. At some point you will need to jump to the bridge where you saw the second pilot being murdered (and before you got imprisoned) but because of Lara’s weight and gravity, the bridge will collapse making you fall deeper into the abyss. After a short cutscene (where I felt bad for Lara), you will slide down armed with the shotgun. Shoot out all the barriers on your path and keep a lookout for other debris while you are making your way into Mountain Village. At the end of this sliding section, Lara will fall in a lake of water (and if you think it’s a soft landing, think again warning).

Chasm Monastery (4)

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE – PART III

Note: Although the third part is mentioned here, collectibles can still be found here.

Chasm Monastery (5)

After coming out of the water, Lara needs a break. While resting on a nearby rock, a cutscene between Samantha and Lara will occur and later Lara will agree to meet up with Roth. Continue out of the cave towards a basecamp to assign skill points or to upgrade your gear with your hard earned salvage.

Mountain Descent
Whilst there are still collectibles to find or challenges to complete while you are up here, at this point in the guide I will focus on the main story line. If you do wish to explore this area, feel free to use the page linked above underneath the header to make your quest a lot easier.

Sit down at the Base Camp in front of you to trigger the fifth part of Lara's Journals (Lara's Journals #5: Ancient Guardians). Afterwards, continue your path until you come across three guards. Take them out and make your way towards a small house by making yourself a zipline by using the Rope Darts. Shotgun your way into the cabin and proceed along the path. Inside this small hut, another conversation between Sam and Lara will be engaged. After the cutscene and when you get control over Lara again, jump over to the ledge and follow the path. After taking a zipline down and falling through the roof of a small hut, there are 3 enemies to take care off. If you wait until they are close to the fire, you can shoot the small canister of gas to blow them all up at once. Either way, once they are taking care of, proceed while taking out other enemies along your route of destruction. At the end of the way, you will find a river. It’s a dangerous cross and at some point, Lara will be dragged along with the stream. Avoid debris and when you are at the end, a slow motion sequence will kick in. Shoot out the debris with the shotgun and Lara will fall inside a plane wreck. At the bottom of that wreck, when she is landed on some glass, she will grab a parachute. When the glass cracks eventually, open the parachute and stay out of the way of the trees. She is in bad shape already and it would be a shame to make it even worse. You are now gliding into a new area: Shantytown…

When you’ve finally landed and watched a cutscene, it’s time to patch yourself up. Move forward down the straight forward path and soon you’ll find yourself in some kind of sewer. Although you can hear enemy guards talking and you’ll see a body being dumped, you are safe for now. Keep making your way forward until you exit the tunnel. Take out the three guards (one will be up top and two will be roaming around together) with stealth and advance towards the chopper. On your path, you should encounter one more enemy, but from that point on you’ll be safe. Open up the helicopter with a Rope Dart and enter it. Another cutscene will be triggered and afterwards you’ll have the Lighter in your gear and the Fire Arrow in your ammo supplies.

Shantytown (1)

Helicopter Hill
Once you exit the chopper and the nearby basecamp, you’ll trigger one of the biggest fights in the game. Take out the guys with the molotovs first, since they can injure you quite a bit and pick off all the other enemies with either Dodge Counters (melee combat) or your bow (long distance). After the fight, a conversation with Roth will trigger and he tells you to make your way towards a gate, where he will meet up with you. From this point, you’ll have the chance to free roam for collectibles.

Shantytown (2)

Once you reach the gate, another cutscene will trigger along with another big fight afterwards. During this fight, one or two Shielded Guards might show up so be ready to take him out with Dodge Counter once you see a chance to do so. If the fight is over, burn the white cloth with your Fire Arrows and open the gate using the Axe to access the southern part of this big area.

Shantytown (3)

Ancient Gate
When you move forward, another cutscene will trigger and your objective will soon update to reach Grim. Since you are limited to the lower part of the area, I advise you to keep going with the story before you start free roaming. Make your way towards the tower where Grim is hiding and don’t worry about the enemies in the distance since the old Scottish captain will take care of them soon enough. When you try to attempt to take the ladder up to your friend, another battle will start.

Shantytown (4)

Save your game on another slot before the battle is triggered. During the following battle and the battle before you reach Grim, I unlocked the Deadeye achievement and the two achievements listed below this paragraph. If you still miss one of these three achievements after you’ve completed the story, you can reload this save file to easily unlock them.

Enemies will start attacking you from higher ground, and you’ll soon get the chance to meet another danger in the game: dynamite. From this moment on, enemies will throw them around your head as much as possible to expose you from the cover you’re taking. During this battle, you might accidently kill an enemy who’s holding a stick of dynamite. If he drops the dynamite and he kills two of his ‘brothers’, you’ll earn the Epic Fumble achievement. Another achievement related to the dynamite is shooting one out of the air. It may take a few attempts but try to blast it with the shotgun before it hits the ground.

  • Epic Fumble

    Epic Fumble
3 guidesOffline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.

Shantytown (5)

While keeping this in the back of your head, keep the shotgun ready to get the enemies of the ziplines. Not only will this count towards the “Deadeye”-achievement, they will trigger melee combat which will make you vulnerable for the guys on top with their molotovs and their long range weapons. If one does reach the area you’re holding, Dodge Counter him to finish him as quickly as possible. When the battle is ended, use one of the ziplines in front of you to access the high ledge enemies where attacking you from. Keep an eye out for that hand alarm they’ve been possibly using as destroying it will count towards the ‘Silencer’-challenge.

Use the zipline to reach the left hand side of this area to reach the area with a windmill. You’ll encounter a handful of Solarii’s but they shouldn’t cause you much trouble since you can either pick them off from a distance or you can get close to them to trigger melee combat. At some point, you’ll descent from a zipline and you should be close to a windmill. There will be some guards around this area as well, so pick them off in any fashion you desire. Once you’ve ended the battle in your advantage, free roam the area for collectibles and/or salvage. You should be able to find another base camp, where you can assign your possibly earned skill point and upgrade your gear.

Shantytown (6)

Windmill
Search for a white painted wall. This will show you that you can scramble up there to make your way to the top of the windmill, which is essential in reaching Grim. At the top, wait for one of the gondola’s to be close enough before you can jump onto them. On the way to Grim, the game will trigger a cutscene where Grim warns you about an ambush.

This fight is similar to the one you had at the bottom of the tower. Pick off the enemies on the zipline to earn credit towards the “Deadeye”-achievement but also to keep you safe. To eliminate a lot of Solarii’s at once, I recommended you let them pack together near a well-known red barrel since shooting it will kill them all because of the explosion. If one or two enemies does reach the platform you’re picking off their friends, Dodge Counter them to make quick work of them. Halfway through, the game will trigger a rather sad cutscene and once that is over, kill the remaining guards so you can advance to gather with Roth.

After the fight, make sure to replenish your ammo by looting the enemies and locate a zipline leading to a scalable wall. Take the zipline and at some point the line will be cut. Be ready to tap the X-button to hook yourself into the wall and continue on your way up. Once you’re safe onto a platform, a brief conversation between Roth and Lara will be triggered and the last Base Camp of this area should be in front of you.

Shantytown (7)

Vista Tower
Be sure to sit down at this base camp since you will not be able to reach it again unless you load up the back up save file you made before the first tower battle. Continue the linear path and soon you’ll have to cross a bridge where lots of enemies are on. Luckily, you don’t have to go in combat since Roth will take care of them with his Sniper Rifle. Listen to the instructions he gives you to pass this part without any problems. At some point, you’ll have to get Lara through some heavy enemy fire and the only way you can do that is by running. Keep running until you reach a scalable wall and ascend it until you reach another ledge. Moving forward will trigger a new area where you will find Lara in a complex underground cavern network: the Geothermal Caverns.

Near the tunnel to the entrance of the optional tomb “Well of Tears”, you will find planks inside a hut that you can destroy with the Rope Darts. Drop down and carefully examine the ground.

GPS Cache #3: 712575; 3416081
On the ground floor of a hut located in the northern part. Use the shotgun to destroy the barrier to find the cache on the ground at the back.

GPS Cache #4: 712593; 3416091
Inside a small shack in the northeast part of Shantytown. Destroy the barrier with the shotgun, enter the shack and find the cache near some shelves on the ground.

GPS Cache #5: 712588; 3416082
In the northern part of town, enter the hut near these coordinates by destroying the barrier with the shotgun (again roll). The cache will be on the ground in the middle.

GPS Cache #6: 712594; 3416030
In the southern part of the town, where you had a big fire fight and before getting to Grim, drop down to get on a walkway besides the river. The cache can be found underneath a bridge.

GPS Cache #7: 712585; 3416032
In the southern part of the town, after the fire fight and before getting to Grim, notice a fence with a gap in there. Go through it and turn left. Go over the bridge but stop in the middle and drop down to the small platform to find this sneaky one.

GPS Cache #8: 712586; 3416046
In the southwest part of the town, after the fire fight and on your way to Grim look for a destructible barrier around the big metal structure. The cache will be on the ground right after this barrier.

GPS Cache #9: 712600; 3416057
In the south part of the town where you fought off a handful of enemies, take a right at the fork to find the cache on the ground at the dead end.

GPS Cache #10: 712598; 3416050
In the southwest area of the windmill, make your way to the inside of that small area. At a certain point, you should be able to drop down. Do so and investigate the areas near the fence, you should find this cache near one of the corners.

GPS Cache #11: 712601; 3416057
In the southern part of Shantytown, at the bottom of the windmill and underneath the rotors.

GPS Cache #12: 712606; 3416049
In the southern part of the town and south of the windmill, start making your way up from the base. You should see another destructible barricade, do so and go to the fence up front. The cache can be found in between some bushes.

GPS Cache #13: 712612; 3416070
In the southern part of the town and north of the windmill (where you got ambushed). North of this area, there should be a small tunnel. Follow it until you reach the end, the cache will be at your feet.

GPS Cache #14: 712609; 3416059
At the top of the windmill, look for a climbable wall. Follow the path (you should encounter one of the four hand alarms for the “Silencer”-challenge) and continue ascending until you reach the top. There, search thoroughly for the cache as it is pretty well hidden near some of those metal plates.

GPS Cache #15: 712626; 3416052
In the tunnel that leads to the main room of the “Chamber of Judgment”-tomb, hidden in some bushes.

CHALLENGE: LAID TO REST

Around Shantytown, you can find more than 5 effigies to burn down (or more than 4 hand alarms to destroy for that matter). While all of these count towards your challenge progress, destroying more than required ones will not give you any rewards. Listed below are the easiest ones to spot.

Effigy #1: 712593; 3416081
In the northern section of the town. It may be better to climb the huts and walk across the rooftops to spot this one. Burn the clothes with the Fire Arrows and shoot a rope dart to destroy the skeleton.

Effigy #2: 712584; 3416068
In the northern path, just before you open the gate to go to the second section. Climb the rooftops to spot it easily and destroy it like you destroyed the previous one.

Effigy #3: 712571; 3416098
‘Behind’ the helicopter where you acquired the Fire Arrows. You should see the effigy just below the helicopter near the Helicopter Hill base camp.

Effigy #4: 712590; 3416048
Near the Ancient Gate-base camp and close to the big puddle of water.

Effigy #5: 712600; 3416027
On one of the sides of the tower where Grim has been hiding himself.

CHALLENGE: SILENCER

Alarm #1: 712564; 3416087
South of the Helicopter Hill-base camp, look for a wall with ledges you can climb up on. At the top, use the axe to destroy it.

Alarm #2: 712596; 3416035
At the other side of where Lara gets attacked from and before saving Grim. Enemies will sound the alarm to call reinforcements. Make your way towards that platform and destroy it.

Alarm #3: 712589; 3416050
You will encounter this one on your way to Grim, but only if you thoroughly search the edges since it’s placed near one. Before you reach the platform with the alarm on, you should see some kind of kicker to bounce off from.

Alarm #4: 712602; 3416052
In the southern part of the town and southwest of the windmill while making your way up to Grim, you will encounter this naturally. You will also encounter this one before picking up GPS cache #14.

OPTIONAL TOMB: WELL OF TEARS

Coordinates: 712580; 3416067

This optional tomb is found in the first area of Shantytown, before you open the gate and reach the “Ancient Gate”-base camp.

Once you enter the hut where the entrance can be found, you’ll be hanged upside down and you’ll need to get rid of a handful of enemies before you can start exploring. After you’ve killed them all, use the Rope Dart to remove some planks out of the ground and to create an entrance to this tomb.

This tomb is not too difficult if you time everything correctly. The first thing you need to do is finding three canisters and throw them on the cage in the middle of the main room. Once you’ve did so, jump onto the cage, which is not on ground level, and toss one gas canister away. This is where the timed part begins. Step off the lift to have it going airbourne again and make your way to the platform with the base camp on. From there, jump onto the cage and continue your path to the left and jump onto another ledge. If you timed it correctly, you can make your way to the treasure room; if not, repeat from the beginning of this paragraph.

The big chest will update your map with all the locations of the Relics and Document (Treasure Map #1) and will reward you with 250 salvage and 1,250 EXP.

OPTIONAL TOMB: CHAMBER OF JUDGMENT

Coordinates: 712617; 3416053

This tomb entrance can be found next to the “Windmill”-base camp on the second part of Shantytown.

Follow the linear path to enter the main room, but keep an eye out for a GPS Cache. This tomb doesn’t really involve much, but once you reach the main room, keep an eye out for 3 or 4 gas canisters. You’ll need to toss them on the balance closest to where you’ve entered and the base camp (thus not on the side of the balance across from a scalable wall. There will be a barrier you’ll have to destroy with a swing in the middle of the room (use a Rope Dart) but once you have all four placed, you can navigate Lara to jump towards the scalable wall. Ascend it until you reach a ladder. In the treasure room you’ll find a chest which contains a part for your Pistol, 250 Salvage and 1,250 EXP but you’re mini map will now be updated as well with all the locations of the GPS Caches scattered around Shantytown (Treasure Map #2).

Firestarter - Use Fire Arrows to ignite 6 Corpse Bags

Geothermal Caverns (1)

Upon entering this area, you’ll find yourself in a pool of blood and limited on ammo and fire power. You only have your Longbow along with the Axe. Use your ammo whenever you feel it’s needed and don’t send it out without any reason since you’ll need it near the end of this area. Anyway, continue forward since there’s no danger at all and at a certain point, you’ll encounter some metal debris in front of you and in the background green gas. The green gas is toxic and will kill Lara fast if you are caught in a cloud. The only way to get rid of a cloud for a short amount is shooting it with a Fire Arrow since it’s extremely flammable. Make sure you are at a safe distance when you shoot it since the explosion can hurt Lara as well. Anyway, shoot the cloud and move forward fast. You’ll encounter your first base camp in this area after passing the newly opened exit.

Geothermal Caverns (2)

The Pit
Sitting down at this base camp will trigger the sixth part of Lara’s Journals (Lara’s Journal’s #6: No Escape). When you’re done assigning possibly earned skill points and upgrading your gear, continue your path through the tunnels. Squeeze yourself through the rocks to trigger a cutscene where you’ll see savages ripping their victims apart. Go to the right hand side and descend. You’ll see a handful of these savages near a gas cloud. Shoot a Fire Arrow at it to kill a few, which will also make the other run away scared.

Geothermal Caverns (5)

This might be a good time to hunt some collectibles down as well as some corpse bags found hanging from the ceiling. When you’re done, interact with the crank near a gate. This will make a gas cloud appear so back off and shoot it with a Fire Arrow. This will blow the previously mentioned gate open so you can continue your path. Enter the newly opened passage and take cover immediately. You’ll see some guards in front of you. If you wait long enough, you can pick them off one by one. Move forward with caution to see two guards sitting. If you can spot the gas cloud near them, you are able to kill them by igniting the gas with the use of a single Fire Arrow. When you killed all reinforcements, loot their bodies for ammo and advance. Ascend the small rocks to encounter the second base camp.

Catacombs
Near the base camp you’ll find another crank. Open it with the Axe and ignite the gas with the usual method. The explosion will move a crate up top. Make your way towards the spot where it landed and mount it. Keep climbing until you reach the top ledge. Advance on the straight forward path. You’ll hear some more guards but if you find a good spot, you can kill them easily by igniting the gas cloud. No reinforcements should come your way.

Advance your escape out of these caves and you’ll encounter another group of two guards. Let them split up and kill the first one with a stealth melee attack. Afterwards, you can kill the other one with your bow. Advance to see a group of three guards near some kind of altar. On the left hand side, you should be able to spot another gas cloud and shooting it with a Fire Arrow will kill the enemies immediately. Loot their bodies and advance.

Geothermal Caverns (3)

At some point, you will encounter another crank but don’t open it just yet. First, aim with your Rope Darts at the wooden construction near it to move it near the crank. Open the crank and ignite the gas. The explosion will create another passageway for Lara, so move through it to enter a new part of the caves. Since there are toxic gasses all around the place, you’ll need to pass this section fast enough so you don’t die. Keep running until there is a wall you can scramble up to. You will now face the last group of enemies that is holding the crew of the Endurance (or whatever of them is left). Kill all Solarii including the reinforcements rushing your way. Afterwards, you are able to free your friends.

To solve this puzzle, advance to the left hand side to see another valve. Open it and ignite the gas. The explosion should’ve created a new path, leading to the upper ledges of this area. Make your way up, scaling whenever it’s needed. On the left hand side you should be able to spot a cage in the form of the letter “U” with a gas cloud next to it. Ignite it to send it flying and while it does, another gas cloud near the ceiling should appear. Shoot it as well to send the U-cage higher. The puzzle is halfway over. Jump towards the cage where your friends are in and go to the top. Jump over to a ledge straight across. On this platform, you’ll find two valves. Open both of them and position yourself so that the cage with your friends is in is on your right while the two opened cranks are in front of you. Shoot the first gas cloud to create a double explosion and the crew should be freed.

Geothermal Caverns (4)

The next part is easy, jump and scale whenever needed to exit the caverns and to escape all the explosions. Once you’ve done the final leap, the game will trigger another cutscene. After the cutscene, run down the straight forward path and up a flight of burning stairs, at the end, you should spot another door. Open it with your Axe to enter a new area.

Solarii Fortress (1)

Hide ads

After escaping the palace connected to the Geothermal Caverns, it’s time to regroup with the crew and hopefully get off this island as fast as possible. This part of the game is pretty straight forward, in the first part you’ll need to run for the collapsing buildings. You’ll encounter enemies along the way while doing so, but don’t bother attacking them since they will be doing the same thing as you: getting away from collapsing buildings. Follow the linear path until a cutscene is triggered. From that moment on, a fire fight will start again in which you need to fight for your life (while the rest of the crew is safe for some strange reasons).

After you’ve killed all Solarii on your path, jump over to a rooftop in front of you and once again follow the path in front of you. Once the game triggers another cutscene, Lara will have all her equipment and weapons back. That is a good thing, since a big battle is about to happen when you walk into the next room.

For this battle, I would advise you to not have your crossbow equipped. Since the area is pretty crowded, you will not have a lot of time to aim it anyway. The best thing to do, is keeping the Assault Rifle equipped and having the shotgun ready for the guards that run up to you to trigger melee combat. Even though you might get a few Dodge Counters in this area, it’s not really recommended on higher difficulties. The main thing you need to focus on here is surviving, not any achievements since you will have enough chances after this point. Once all enemies have been taking care off again, the game will tell you to escape the inferno. The building will not start bursting into flames before you leave though, so take your time to loot corpses. The exit is location in a corner, where you can also see a searchlight.

Once you are out of the main room where you had the battle of your life, you’ll be going down corridors. Along the way you’ll get a few waves, where the first two only consist of normal enemies with the regular bow and some melee enemies. The third wave will have a Solarii with a shield, so use your Dodge Counter to take him out first. After these three waves, another cutscene will be triggered. After seeing it, you need to be quick to escape the guy on the sentry gun. Make your way to a wall in the middle to take cover and don’t stop to shoot at him since you will die immediately. After reaching the middle, head over to the right until you reach a scalable wall. When you get to the top, take the zipline down to take care of the vengeful guy on the turret.

Solarii Fortress (2)

A short cutscene will be triggered where the Grenade Launcher will be added to your gear. To use it, equip your Assault Rifle and press LB to fire a grenade. The game will help you getting used to your new toy, so follow the instructions on-screen to get through it swiftly. After destroying a barricade, you will encounter some enemies where you can test your launcher on. Even though the Grenade Launcher can be a big help to clear out enemies fast, the enemies in this particular area are still heavily armed and will not surrender so quickly. After eliminating all guards, make your way to a searchlight in the back and scale the wall near it. You will move past some burning corridors but you’re safe… for now. At the end there will be another barricade which you can destroy with a single grenade. Go to the right, refill your ammo by looting the nearby ammo boxes and blast your way through another barricade. Be prepared for another fight. The first area shouldn’t cause you too much trouble, but the second wave have some enemies on rooftops which can easily get you killed so make sure those are your priority. After clearing the second group, a cutscene will be triggered and you will have to replay a scene you did before. Do not try to take out the searchlight which helps the guy on the sentry since it’s simply too far away for you to destroy it, instead move from cover to cover. The guy on the turret is not the only problem though, there are some Solarii scattered around on the left- and right side to kill you as well. Try to take them out without risks so you don’t get killed yourself. Once you reach a wooden structure on your left that you can scale, you can start fighting back to the person on the sentry. Take the zipline down after eliminating all guards on the higher levels and start walking towards the searchlight when you landed. Once you are in the right spot, the game will tell you to fire a grenade at the gunner. Do so to take him out and ride the zipline down to end the massacre.

Solarii Fortress
Starting from this point, you will not have to worry about any enemies since the game will mainly focus on scaling walls and following the paths laid out in front in you. It’s hard to get you an in-depth guide since no strategies are needed for following the pre-set paths and cutscenes. Some QTE’s might appear on your screen, but nothing is really worth noting in this guide. If you do need help in advancing, you can always use the survival instincts to help you on your way. Just keep advancing until you need to jump towards a helicopter. At this point, the story will take a whole new twist and after these cutscenes you will receive a Tactical Pistol and you’ll find yourself in a new area.

Although there’s not a lot of story related progress to be made in this small area, this forest contains tons of collectibles and an optional tomb which can keep you busy for at least 30 minutes. With that being said, let’s move on with the story.

Hide ads

Summit March
You will find Lara in front of a base camp and sitting down at it will trigger a new entry in Lara’s Journals (Lara’s Journals #7: Don’t Think, Don’t Feel). When you’re done doing what you thought was needed in terms of upgrading, use survival instincts and advance towards your waypoint. I advise you to stay at the left hand side of this forest, since you will fight a few Solarii and these will sent out wolves to get your skin. Clear them out and keep advancing until you reach a small hunting lodge.

Summit Forest (1)

Hunting Lodge
Once you reach this base camp, you can either opt to free roam for challenges and/or collectibles or you can make your way towards the Optional Tomb. As far as the story goes, you will need to keep advancing towards the mission marker. You will enter a small tunnel, in which you will see hundreds of wolves encaged. Since no guards are around to take your life, you shouldn’t really worry about it. Climb the ladder and use a Rope Dart to swing the deer covered in ropes. This will allow you to swing towards the scalable wall in front of you. Keep advancing through the tunnel until you are back in Shantytown.

Summit Forest (2)

SHANTYTOWN – PART II

Note: There are no collectibles to find and challenges cannot be completed in this part of Shantytown. Also, be sure to save on another save slot in case you missed the “Deadeye”-, the “Boom Goes The Dynamite”- and the “Epic Fumble”-achievement before.

Use the zipline to get to a levelled platform. Wait until one of the gondola’s passes you and jump on it to advance. Naturally, nothing is okay when it comes to Lara’s visits and the gondola will stop along the way. Look to the left to see a pillar of a radio tower covered in roped. Shoot a Rope Dart in it to create a bridge and make your way towards the above mentioned radio tower. Search for a ladder to scale to tower and take the zipline down towards a rather large area. Another fire fight will start soon.

Summit Forest (3)

The best strategy would be to stay near the back where you landed and take cover left and right if needed. There will be guys zip lining down, and some will come up to you triggering melee combat. My advice would be taking them out quickly since there are a lot explosive barrels and the Solarii will throw dynamite around your ears as well. Remember to shoot it out of the air if you still need the achievement, otherwise you can save yourself the trouble by dodging it.

Summit Forest (4)

At some point during the fight, a cutscene will trigger where the whole area will become unstable and this will be another long scaling sequence. To make it even worse, a guy will be an a turret but if you keep following the path laid out in front of you, you shouldn’t even get hit once. At the end of the scaling sequence, a zip lining sequence will be triggered. The game will make you familiar with dropping from zip lines onto another one using the B-button. The prompt will only come on the screen once, so be ready to tap it when the game goes into slow motion. At the end, Lara will slide down a pipe so blast the barrier when it pops in front of you to trigger a cutscene where you finally reached the third big main area of the game; Shipwreck Beach.

In between the Summit Marsh base camp and a helicopter wreckage. The box can be found underneath a tree.

Relic #2: Daggers – Jade Ceremonial Dagger (712627; 3415999)
In the western area of the forest, get onto higher ground and search for a fallen tree branch Lara can balance over. At the end of that branch, you should see a wall that Lara can scale with the Climbing Axe. Climb up and jump over to a platform on a tree. You should see a rope to another tree with a platform, go on that and once you reach the other tree, you will find the box near the edge of that platform

Relic #3: Daggers – Japanese Ceremonial Dagger (712638; 3415989)
In the southeast part of the forest, look out for an elevated platform with a zipline close to it. Mount the zipline and cross it to a wooden platform. On that platform, examine the left hand side and you will notice a box. Leap over to that ledge to pick it up. Examine the dagger for bloodstains to get 10 additional EXP.

GPS Cache #1: 712606; 3416000
North of the helicopter wreckage in between trees.

GPS Cache #2: 712628; 3415986
In the southwest part of the forest, look for a tree house that has supports that you can destroy with the Rope Darts. Once you’ve lowered the tree house, look for a ledge to get on top of it. On top, turn right and just over to a small ledge. The cache can be found on the ground.

GPS Cache #3: 712638; 3415987
In the south part of the forest, move through the water towards the waterfall. The cache is underwater so move slowly to notice it (Lara cannot dive).

GPS Cache #4: 712636; 3415986
In the southeast part of the forest, look out for an elevated platform with a zipline close to it. Instead of mounting the zipline, turn right and follow the path until you find a destructible door. Blast through it with your shotgun and keep moving. Lara will slide down, jump at the last moment and get your Axe out on a mountable wall. Make your way up and to the right hand side until you can jump to another ledge. The cache can be found on the ground.

GPS Cache #5: 712656; 3416016
After you passed all the wolves locked up in those cages, found on the ground in between leaves.

OPTIONAL TOMB: STORMGUARD SANCTUM

Coordinates: 712635; 3416006

When entering this small tomb, you’ll notice the Base Camp directly in front of you, which is the third one of Summit Forest. You should see small flammable torches hanging from the ceiling. Destroy the barricade in front of you with Fire Arrows. You should see the same gas that you encountered in the Geothermal Caverns. You will need to be quick to light it up with Fire Arrows and make your way up there. To avoid a horrible death, make your way to the left quick enough and you should see a small kicker in front of you where Lara can bounce off from onto a scalable wall. Before you do so, destroy the barricade with another Fire Arrow and make your way up there. Once you’ve scaled the small wall, you’ll be into the treasure room. Loot the big box for 250 salvage and 1,250 EXP. After looting the chest, your map will be updated with all locations of the relics, documents and caches (Treasure Map #1) in Summit Forest.

Shipwreck Beach (4)

There are also some seagulls flying around, which you can kill if you still need to kill 10 birds. To continue with the story, go meet up with your crew that fled this place after you’ve released them from those damn Caverns. Go towards the marker to trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene you will need to make your way to a shipwrecked galleon to find a block and tackle. Make your way towards the mission marker. A cutscene will trigger where you find out that Alex has been send out for tools on the Endurance wreckage and where Lara points out that you will need a Block & Tackle. Don't move just yet; be sure to talk with Sam, Jonah and Reyes each three times.

Survivors' Camp
For now, don’t worry about the first thing but focus on the latter. Make your way to the galleon in front of you. The path is straight forward and before you get to the Block & Tackle, you will encounter 2 or 3 guards. I would advise you to take the first one out with stealth and when the second one comes investigating, finish him with any weapon of your choice. Make your way to the outside of the bow and follow the path. Once you’ve reached the top of the shop, you should see the Block & Tackle in front of you. Shoot it down and after the cutscene, continue your ascend towards the beach. On your way down, you will encounter a handful of guards so deal with them and continue towards Reyes.

Shipwreck Beach (1)

Once you’ve reached the crew, another cutscene will start. Whitman shows up out of nowhere and Lara doesn’t really trust him. Either way, Lara says she is going to get Alex from the Endurance wreck and before she gets a chance to leave, Jonah gives her another (stronger) weapon: the Compound Bow. Before you continue with the story, be sure to talk with Jonah (4 times), Sam (3 times) and Whitman (2 times) found around the base camp. Reyes can be found at the boat she is working on and you'll need to trigger conversation twice.

Shipwreck Beach (2)

You will need to make your way to the left hand side of the beach. Use survival instincts and make your way towards it. At some point, the game will tell you that you now can shoot your Rope Darts into scalable walls to create a zipline. Do so and continue forwards. You will come across a large building (also mentioned as lighthouse further in the guide) where two guards are in, deal with them and make your way towards their previous location. Mount the building and take the zipline down. When you land on land again, you will see another two guards. Take them out in any fashion you desire and at this point you can either choose to continue (cross the wooden bridge) or enter the building on the left hand side. In there you can find some collectibles as well as an optional tomb (‘The Flooded Vault’), which has a guide underneath the collectibles section.

Shipwreck Beach (3)

For now, I’ll focus on the story so continue towards your mission marker. From the ledge of the platform where you eliminated the two guards, jump to a beam and continue forward onto a small platform. Shoot a Rope Dart into the scalable wall and take the zipline down. Climb onto the platform and make your way forward until you encounter a Base Camp in a new area, described on the next page.

COLLECTIBLES

You revisit Shipwreck Beach three times during the story and some collectibles can only be picked up on your way towards a new area. Since this is the first page with Shipwreck Beach on, this will be the page with all the collectibles listed. The next few pages where some parts of Shipwreck Beach are being described on will not have any collectibles listed so keep this page open until you reach Chasm Shrine.

CHALLENGE: MINESWEEPER

This challenge requires you to blow up 10 mines with any long range weapon (yes, even a bow). Be sure to fire at them from a safe distance so you don’t kill yourself in the progress. The mines below will be written in the order it’s the most obvious order to spot them while progressing through the story. This challenge cannot be complete until you have to reach Cliffside Bunker.

Mine #1: 712491; 3415989
On your way to the Survivor’s Camp base camp, close to the left hand side cliffs.

Mine #2: 712491; 3415970
On your way to the galleon, close to the pier.

Mine #3: 712467; 3415960

On your way to Cliffside Bunker and when close to the lighthouse, you’ll see it floating in the ocean.

Mine #8: 712520; 3415950
When close to the lighthouse, make a left towards some kind of junkyard full of ship wreckages. You’ll find it buried in the sand.

Mine #9: 712514; 3415941
Floating near the lighthouse in the ocean while on your way to Cliffside Bunker.

Mine #10: 712536; 3415946
In the junkyard section mentioned for Mine #8, close to a cliff.

CHALLENGE: CAIRN RAIDER

This challenge requires you to destroy graves while interacting with them using the X-button. Be warned though, this challenge cannot be completed before you head to Cliffside Bunker.

Cairn #1: 712469; 3416008
When you first start exploring, locate a large cliff in the middle of some water. Pull a buoy with a Rope Dart (or push it with the Y-button) to the right hand side where you can find some rocks (don’t advance to fall of the waterfall, or you’ll die). Jump on the buoy and jump towards the scalable wall. Ascend it to find the cairn on top.

Cairn #2: 712483; 3415992
Close to the Survivors’ Camp base camp, locate a small hill on the left hand side while making your way towards it from where you came when you first entered this area. Go up the small path and keep advancing around the rock while climbing when needed. You’ll find this on your way close to the edge.

Cairn #3: 712471; 3415995
Close to the Survivors’ Camp base camp, locate a small hill on the right hand side while making your way towards it from where you came when you first entered this area. This can be found overlooking a bunker with a World War II weapon aimed at the ocean.

Cairn #4: 712503; 3415950
Found on the path behind the lighthouse while making your way to Cliffside Bunker.

Cairn #5: 712522; 3415950
When coming down the zipline from the lighthouse, eliminate the two enemies on the left and go to the right after you did. You’ll find this cairn on the outer edge of the cliff while on your way to Cliffside Bunker.

OPTIONAL TOMB: THE FLOODED VAULT

Coordinates: 712521; 3415962

You will encounter this tomb on your way to the Endurance wreck and Cliffside Bunker. You will know this is the place when the game gives you a pop up (off course) and there will be two guards on the cliff. After disposing of these, you can open a door which will lead you underground. At the end of this tunnel, you will have a set of stairs leading up and Lara will notice that this was part of the Research Facility. When reaching the main room, where you will notice a new base camp, make your way up to starts and press X to turn on the electricity. Go back downstairs and open the gate. You will now see a big pool of electrified water. Go to the left hand side to see a raft. Burn the clothes to release the raft from it and make your way to the right hand side where you will see a barrier. Destroy it with your shotgun and will the raft towards you from that spot with 2 or 3 rope darts.

When the raft is close enough, jump on it and shoot the metal surrounded in ropes to get the light out of the water. Now make your way towards the two opposing stair sets. If you go to the latter, which has an empty room on the left, you can get the light out of the water again. When that short countdown starts, pull the raft underneath the light so that the light doesn’t touch the water anymore. When the light hits the raft instead, it’s save to cross towards the other side of this room. Make your way to the right hand side and ascend the stairs. On top of these, you will now find the giant treasure chest. Opening it will award you with 250 salvage and will update your mini-map with all relics and documents (Treasure Map #1). Another 1,250 EXP will be awarded as well.

OPTIONAL TOMB: TEMPLE OF THE HANDMAIDENS

Coordinates: 712485; 3415986

You can only start exploring this tomb after acquiring the Rope Ascender from the Endurance wreckage. Although the opening is close to the crew’s camp, you cannot visit this tomb when you visit the Cliffside Beach for the first time.

Either way, once you can enter it, the main room will require you to be fast. Not really fast to rush it, but fast enough to make your way towards the treasure room within this timed puzzle. The main room has a base camp where you can assign skill points or upgrade your gear whenever you prefer. On the left of this base camp, you can see a valve. Open it to make the light post go underneath the small bridge towards the left and head left yourself (without crossing the water). The light post will make a beam appear in front of you and you will need to be past to swing yourself across to another small bridge. Shoot a Rope Dart into the small in-rope-covered post to make another beam appear in front of you. Time your jump correctly to swing across to a scalable wall and ascend it to access the treasure chest.

Inside this treasure chest, you will find 250 salvage points, a Pistol part and your mini-map will be updated with all the GPS Caches (Treasure Map #2). You will also get 1,250 EXP.

After exploring this tomb, you will also be awarded with the following achievement if you scavenged every other optional tomb:

CLIFFSIDE BUNKER

COLLECTIBLES:
Camps – 2
Documents – 4
Relics – 3
GPS Caches – 5
Treasure Maps – 1
Tombs – 0

CHALLENGES:
Previous Inhabitants - Burn 4 banners of the Imperial Japanese Army

WEAPON PARTS:
Shotgun - Found in a salvage box on the second floor in a corner of the inside bunker

Note: There is no fast travel station in this location so make sure you complete the challenge and you collected everything before you head back to Shipwreck Beach. There are some collectibles to find after you return from the Endurance wreckage, so make sure you have everything. A treasure map can be found just outside the Bunker on your way to the crew and is mentioned in the guide below.

Hide ads

Bunker Vista
From the basecamp make your way to the left hand side of the cliff to see a pole. Shoot a Rope Dart into the scalable wall and make your way towards the right hand side. The path is straight forward and I don’t think you’ll run into problems. Climb into the bunker and locate a small hole in the wall that will lead you to the main room of the Bunker.

Lara will immediately go in cover and I advise you to pick off the left and right guys on a higher ledge with your bow. Afterwards, you can shoot the iron that is carrying the weight to crush three guys. After that, all hell will break loose and apart from some guys throwing some dynamite, there are also some guys running up to you. These can give you a good boost towards your dodge kills. After you cleared the area, go to the back and go into the dark hallway on the left. Before you have a chance to mount the stairs, a handful of Solarii will attack again so take care of them and move up. When you are at the top of the stairs, go to the left and follow the path around. Up top you will see another three guards, which can be easily taken care off by shooting at the explosive barrel. Make your way to the top of the bunker and drop down to another Base Camp.

Cliffside Bunker (1)

Endurance Overlook
Next to the base camp you can find a document, behind the truck on the right hand side you can find a relic and there’s also a GPS cache hidden behind some boxes. More importantly, if you look to the radio tower behind the truck wreckage, you can find one of the banners you need to destroy. I’m only mentioning that particular one since this is the one most people tend to miss. Once you’re done, shoot a Rope Dart into the scalable wall and start making your way down to the middle platform between the Bunker and the Endurance wreckage. There is a GPS Cache hidden on the left hand side of this small platform and if found, follow the path to the Endurance.

When you are on the Endurance, follow the path through the tunnel and immediately take cover behind the crate in front of you. You will now encounter a new enemy, which isn’t really easy to take out. Try to take out the two ‘normal’ guards without raising any attention and once you’ve done that, make yourself visible to trigger this boss fight. The best to take out this huge guy is to Dodge Counter and shooting some bullets into him from mid-range towards his head since that is his only weak spot. This way you’ll weaken him. When a Y-prompt is above his head, press it quickly when near him and follow the QTE on screen to finish him. When you’ve killed him, a cutscene will start where you will be awarded with a Rope Ascender. This useful tool will allow you to mount zip lines faster when going up and you will also be able to drag down heavy objects. To do the latter, all you need to do is shooting a Rope Dart in the ropes of the object you want to destroy and hold the X-button. The game will immediately introduce you to the last feature. Follow the onscreen instructions to create a hole in the deck with the cargo hanging on the left hand side and go down when completed.

Cliffside Bunker (2)

You will find yourself on the inside of the ship so follow the hallway and once you come across Lara’s old cabin, a short cutscene will trigger. When that one is done, don’t immediately move on but pick up the collectible from the ground to avoid coming back here in the future since this is the only collectible to find on the Endurance. Continue down the hallway and stealth kill the one on your left. Keep an eye out for a guard in the distance and once you’ve killed him, take the zipline down. You’ll find yourself in a flooded hallway but since there are no enemies to fight or collectibles to find, follow the linear path until you finally come across the wounded Alex.

To reach him, you will need to use your Rope Ascender quite a few times. First, move the block away from the door where Alex is behind. Go to the left of the weight and jump on the short ladder to make it move and don’t let it go until it stops. Go to the same spot where you’ve used your first Rope Darts (and Ascender) and move the weight towards you again. Once the weight stops again, jump on the longer ladder on the right side of the weight. If you’ve done everything correct, the weight will stop underneath a gap in the ceiling, which you can easily access by using one of the ladders on the sides of the weight. Once you’ve climbed into said gap, follow the QTE on screen to destroy the blockade in between the room where Alex is in and the room where you’ve used the weight to reach said blockade.

Cliffside Bunker (3)

Go back down to the room with the weight and move towards the spot where you’ve entered the room. Use a Rope Dart to pull the weight towards you, jump on the left hand side ladder to make the weight move to the middle of the tracks. When the weight is in the correct spot, go towards the room where Alex is in and use a Rope Dart to have the weight hit the door. When done correctly, the hook will grab hold of the electric lock so all you need to do to reach Alex is move back to where you came in and pull the weight towards you with another Rope Dart. Enter the room with Alex to trigger a cutscene. When the cutscene is over and you gain control again, you will have the prompt to start running since the wreckage is falling apart. Keep on moving and when a slow motion scene starts, jump to have Lara grab hold of a zipline to escape the ship. Make your way back to the ‘Endurance Overlook’ Base Camp to trigger a short cutscene.

After the cutscene, you will need to make your way back to your friends. To do so, locate the weight hanging over the bunker and shoot it with a Rope Dart to create a hold in the ground. Go through it to trigger another cutscene (and which will automatically reward you with a Document). Make your way back to where you came in some moments ago and use the Rope Dart and Rope Ascender on the in rope cover structure on your right. When going through the newly created exit, you can find a Treasure Map of this location on your right on some sandbags. To get off this damn cliff, locate a scalable all and create a zipline. Climb the ledge and you’ll be close to the ‘Bunker Vista’ Base Camp. You’ll come across another barricade on your left, so use the Rope Dart and Ascender to do so. Go through the hole in the wall and take the zipline up to a new cliff. There, you will find another three enemies so dispose of them and keep moving forward.

Cliffside Bunker (4)

SHIPWRECK BEACH – PART II

Note: Although the second part is mentioned here, collectibles can still be found here.

The Grotto
After you’ve taken out the enemies, it’s safe to take a rest at this Base Camp to upgrade some gear or your skills. Once you’re done with exploring for collectibles or upgrading, locate a small ramp on the left hand side of this ledge to access a zipline and let the game run itself until you land on the beach again. Make your way back to the crew to trigger a cutscene where you tell the others to go to an old tomb to search for answers. Before you go, make sure you talk to Whitman, Reyes and Jonah three times each (Samantha is sleeping) to unlock the only missable achievement in this game:

CHALLENGES:
Sun Killer - Shoot 5 Sun Totems

WEAPON PARTS:
Shotgun - Past the metal barrier, behind you when you first enter.
Shotgun - While doing the elevator puzzle, shoot a salvage box hanging in a net with a Fire Arrow.

Before you actually make your way to the Research Base, I advise you to sit down at the Base Camp close to your crew (“Survivors’ Camp” Base Camp) to trigger one of Lara’s Journals (Lara’s Journals #8: The Promise). That way, we avoid glitches in the future and that is how my save file glitched itself when doing a playthrough for this guide. When done, make your way to the mission marker and use a Rope Dart to destroy the barricade. Use your Axe to have the lift coming down and since it falls down with such a huge force, you will need to scale it yourself. The path is pretty straight forwards, so you shouldn’t run into any problems. On top of this small area, explore for some collectibles and when done, create a zipline by shooting the scalable wall. Make your way around until you can run and/or walk normal again and scout the area for some more collectibles. When done, locate a painted wall and scramble up. Jump towards the silo and move around until you can stand on it. Jump towards the yellow ladder and mount it. For here, you will need to shoot a Rope Dart in the cable cart to the right so you can make a safe passage across the cliff. When you are on that cart, shoot a Rope Dart into the left hand side one and continue your path until you come across a ledge with a zipline.

Hide ads

Use the zipline and scale the surroundings. You will shimmy across some pipes and eventually you can interact with a scalable wall where you can find a salvage box on. Loot it and progress to the left. There will be two enemies here, but try to take them out with stealth since an additional 3 can drop down when you’ve alerted them. When you got rid of the danger, go to the left to scramble up a platform and shimmy across the ledge. Jump to the left and use your Axe to keep on mounting the Base. When you are on a small platform again, create a zipline and ride it down. Move around the scalable wall until you come across another barricade. Use a Rope Dart to destroy it and enter the newly opened area. You will slide down, so jump at the end and press X when near the scalable wall. For a change, you will need to descend, do so until you are in a small hallway with a bit of water at your feet. Run around and scale the wall. On top, Lara will squeeze herself through a narrow passage.

Research Lab (1)

Research Lab
Follow the straight forward path until you come across two guards. You can easily take them out with stealth or you can go gun-spraying since there won’t be reinforcements. Either way, continue the path until you reach an elevator that’s jammed. It’s puzzle time again!

Press the button to have the left coming down. When it gets stuck, turn right and climb the crates. Use the Axe to remove the gear. One out of four done! Enter the elevator and look for a hole in the fence where Lara can fit through. Once you are through said hole, feel free to open the door using your Axe so you can easily backtrack. Get to the fourth floor and call the elevator. Blow out the barriers with your shotgun on your right and when the elevator is about to hit the hole where you destroyed the barrier, drop down on to the elevator, go through the barrier and jump. Use X to start scaling and move all the way around to the left. When you can’t scale no more, drop down and loot the salvage box. Turn around and you should see a levelled platform. Get on it and destroy the second gear.

Make your way down to the third floor and find a ladder hanging. Mount it and destroy the third gear. When you’ve done both gears, call the elevator on the third floor and make your way to the second floor. You should find a levelled platform again on your way done so get on there as well to destroy the fourth gear. This will make the elevator drop down and will also make the first floor accessible. Head down the newly opened exit and continue your exploration. In a long corridor, you will come across another two guards. Dispose of them and follow the corridor to enter a tomb in the end. This will trigger a rather big cutscene.

Research Lab (2)

After the cutscene, a dozen Solarii will start breaching in. Make your way to where you’ve entered the tomb and when action starts, go up the stairs again behind cover of the railing on the right since enemies will initially spawn in from there. Take them out quickly and soon some will drop down from the ceiling. Take care of them in any fashion and when danger has been eliminated, make your way towards where enemies where shooting from you. From here on out, it’s a straight forwards path. On your way out, Reyes will call you. They are in danger so it’s time to make your way back fast.

SHIPWRECK BEACH – PART III

Note: Although the third part is mentioned here, collectibles can still be found here.

On the left of the Base’s exit, create a zipline by using your Rope Darts. Continue the straight forward path until you come across another 2 guards. Dispose of them and take the zipline down towards your crew. A cutscene will trigger upon reaching them. Whitman has betrayed the ground and has taken Sam to Mathias so it’s time to free her and get of this damn island. Whenever you are ready exploring everything, jump on the boat to have Reyes and Jonah transport you to Chasm Stronghold.

CHALLENGE: SUN KILLER

This challenge requires you to shoot 5 totems which have the shape of the sun, which kind of makes sense if you followed the story line up till this point. All of these can be found before you find the tomb.

Totem #1: 712454; 3416052
This totem can be found right after you navigated Lara through the crack and before finding the base camp. Use Survival Instincts to find this one fast close to where you came in.

Totem #2: 712454; 3416052
After killing the first two guards, make your way through the water and turn around at the end. You’ll see this on near the ceiling.

Totem #3: 712458; 3416049
After reaching the room with the base camp, explore the room on your right. There will be door you can open with your Axe. Open it but don’t jump through the hole. Instead look at the right hand side to see this totem in the distance.

Totem #4: 712444; 3416051
When you’ve solved the elevator puzzle and after you dropped down to the first floor, look at your right to spot this one in plain sight.

Totem #5: 712444; 3416051
When you’ve solved the elevator puzzle and after you dropped down to the first floor, you’ll come into a long hallway with 2 enemies. Kill them and go to the where the guards were. Keep an eye on the right hand side while using Survival Instincts to find this one behind a fence.

After shooting these 5 totems and considering you did every other challenge, you will now unlock:

Lara is now loaded with the knowledge of how to escape the island, but she doesn’t want to leave without her best friend. When arriving at this location, a cutscene will be seen. Karma turned its back on Whitman and dies a horrible death but that distracted the Storm Guards. Mathias used this to enter the Shrine with Sam to start the ritual. Time to follow in their footsteps!

Hide ads

On your left, you should see a scalable wall. Create a zipline, scale the wall and follow the path to enter the Stronghold. Once you are inside a building, you’ll see a lone guard. Don’t open fire on him, but instead, let the troops appear. Once they’ve passed, the lone guard will follow them and then it’s safe for you to move on. Burn the debris in front of you with a Fire Arrow and continue down the newly opened access. Lara will go in cover immediately and you will not need to open fire. Draw no attention since you will die in a horrible way. Instead, go up the stairs in front of you while staying as close as possible to the railing and cross the beam to reach another platform. In front of you, you should see a ledge you can mount so jump onto it and move all the way to the right. The Storm Guards will not notice you, but once you reach the hole in the wall above the door a cutscene will start. When you gain control again, avoid taking fire damage and keep on running. Since Lara is running towards you, you will need to hold the left thumbstick in your direction. It may be a bit clumsy, but it does make sense. A bit further you will slide down again, and Lara will fall on the ground outside. Keep moving forward.

Chasm Stronghold (1)

Sheltered Hallway
Sitting down at this Base Camp will trigger the first to last Journal (Lara’s Journal #9: The Monastery). Once you’ve triggered that, it’s time to move on. The path is straight forward and you will encounter some enemies. If you still need Dodge Counters, now it’s the time to rack them up. At the end of that path, you will find a door that you can pry open with your Axe. Enter it and you will trigger a cutscene where you see Mathias and Sam. When you gain control again, follow the path to the left. Follow the path until you cross a large bridge.

This will start 3 waves of enemies attacking you. I would advise you to kill the ones with the bow and arrows as soon as possible. You can take the melee ones out with Dodge Counter or you can pierce them with any weapon you like. Once the danger has been eliminated, move up until a cutscene spawns where a bridge is being formed. A new wave will come up, so do the same as above to get through it. Even though melee enemies with shields will spawn, it’s easy to kill them using the Dodge Counters.

Once all danger has been eliminated, you’ll get another wave which is a little bit bigger. Apply the same tactics and once the fight is over, you should be able to open the next area with a Rope Dart. The general will now spawn, but fear not since a cutscene will blow him into the abyss. Keep advancing until you reach the next area.

Sacred Hall
Open the locked door with your Axe to start one of the last main puzzles in the game. This is one quite easy to solve, so don’t sweat it. First head to the right and pull the handle to move the two grates in the floor. After you’ve done that, cross the room and interact with another handle to have a bell appear. Shoot the bell from the platform where you initially came in with a Rope Dart to create an exit for Lara. Make your way to the first valve again and close it. Do the same on the second valve. This will put the bell on the grate in the middle. Behind the last valve you’ve encountered, you should be able to spot a ramp. Use it to reach the top level of the room and on the other side of room of the exit you created, you will see a platform and that’s the one you need to reach. Before you do anything else, it may be worth it to pick up the Treasure Map behind you. Either way, shoot the bell with another Rope Dart. When the bell swings towards you, jump on it and when the bell is on its highest point on the other side of the room, jump towards the hole in the wall.

Chasm Shrine (1)

After dropping down, you’ll trigger another cutscene. Afterwards, follow the tunnels. The path through the tunnels is straight forwards so keep going until you reach another basecamp.

Sacred Passage
This is the last Base Camp you can use as fast travel. You can revisit each location when you finished the story, but if you want a nice ‘2 for 125G’ pop at the end, you can still roam around the other area’s to collect everything you need to collect. Use this as base camp as well to max out the three skill trees and/or fully upgrade your gear. I had both done by this Base Camp on my playthrough, so depending on your thoroughness for salvage and EXP-boxes; you should be able to do the same.

Chasm Shrine (2)

Either way, once you’re done, exit through the door to enter the last area of the game.

Upon crossing a bridge, you will trigger a cutscene involving Lara, Sam and the good Mathias. Most of the following consists of climbing. First, after the cutscene, make your way towards the buildings. On your left you should see a scalable wall. Create a zipline and ascend it. Once you have your Axe attached to said wall, move to the right hand side and keep following the path around until you can jump towards a platform. Follow the platform until you see a scalable wall covered in ice. Jump towards it, get your Axe hooked in and start mounting this wall until you can climb up. You should be in a room with a bell. Since the bell is located to the right of the wooden structure you are intended to destroy, move to the left side of it. Shoot a Rope Dart into it to let the wind catch it and create an exit for you.

Chasm Ziggurat (1)

Go through the exit and head to left. Take the ladder up to reach the upper floor. At the top, you’ll have no way to go so shoot a Rope Dart in the bell in front of you to create a bridge. Naturally, the bell will start swaying because if the raging winds and when Lara falls down, she’ll grapple herself with one hand onto a small beam. Press the X-button to get a better hold and climb up. Move across the beam towards the right hand side and jump over to a more stable platform. Once you’ve landed there a small cutscene will trigger where Reyes says that “the bastards are coming your way”. Don’t worry about that now, since you still have a whole way to climb up.

Turn left after the cutscene and you should be able to jump across to a catwalk next to the mountain. Follow the catwalk until you need to jump and scale another scalable wall. The path will lead you to the right first and then up, until you reach a ledge where you can climb on. On the platform, create another zipline and ascend it until you start scaling another wall. Go left and keep following, jumping across gaps where needed. At the end, you will need to drop Lara to a lower scalable wall by using the B-button but be quick to press the X-button again to hook yourself into the mentioned wall. Move towards the statue and from this point on, it shouldn’t take too long to reach another stable platform with the last Base Camp of the story on it.

Ziggurat Vestibule
Jump off from the small ramp to swing over to a ledge she can hold to continue your ascent. Move to the left hand side and start climbing up. This was one of my favourite moments in the game, even though it only involves continuing mounting a big wall and jumping to the left or right when needed. Once you reach the top of this incredible ascend, it’s time to kill some Solarii for the last time.

Chasm Ziggurat (2)

The first wave consists out of a few guys on the ground and once you’ve taken those out, some other will spawn, including some on the tower in the back on the left and a shielded guy. To take out the ones on the tower, aim for the explosives set around the perimeter on top and to kill the shielded guy, use your well known methods. Once the area is clear, move to the end and climb the wall to reach a higher level. The waves on this stage are a bit similar, except now that two shielded guys will spawn once you’ve killed the initial guys. Take out the guys on the tower the same way you did before to avoid having dynamite flying around your head. Once you’ve taken care of them all, loot their bodies for ammo (and salvage if still needed) and move on.

The last climb of the game will be here. Jump to the small platform in the middle of the gap and quickly jump over to the scalable wall behind it. Another cutscene will start. Here, you will face the general of the Storm Guards again. For the first section of this boss fight, try to move behind him and shoot him in the back with your shotgun since that is his only weak spot. While add it, keep dodging his melee attacks. At certain points, he may have his weapon stuck in the ground, so use that moment to use the Y-button to damage him more.

In the second section of the fight, two guys with bow and arrow will spawn in. Get rid of these first and take on the general the same way as before. When you’ve damaged him for a second time, more guys with bow and arrows spawn in and those need to be your priority. In between spawns of these guys, you have some time to damage the general more and once you’ve finally have the Y-prompt above his head again, follow the QTE to end this battle. Loot the bodies of your victims and make your way towards Mathias and Sam.

Chasm Ziggurat (3)

This fight doesn’t involve more than a QTE, so follow all the instructions on screen. At the end, you will dual wield Mathias into the abyss and Lara will save Sam. After all this, the ending cutscene will start and I advise you to not skip it like I did. The collectible-related achievement (if requirements have been fulfilled) and the story related achievement might not pop if you do. Either way, enjoy the last cutscene. I hope you loved and enjoyed the single player as much as I did.

Chasm Ziggurat (4)

Completing the game will trigger the last part of Lara's Journals (Lara's Journals #10 - The Truth) and will unlock the following achievement if you collected every single relic, document and cache in the game:

GENERAL

If you completed all aspects of the single player or if you want to do the multiplayer first, I will give you some in-depth guides to unlock every single achievement related to the online aspect of this game. Personally, I think that it shouldn’t be included at all in this great game but since Eidos and/or Square Enix thought differently; you are forced to spend between 15 and 20 hours levelling up and collecting salvage. Luckily, all but two achievements can be unlocked in private games. The other downside is that there are only 5 maps. I personally prefer the “Underground”-map since it’s pretty small, there is a turret and there are 2 zip lines which are easily accessible. When taking the achievements in consideration, this map should be perfect.

ONLINE GAMES

Let us start with the games you need to play online for. One achievement requires you to complete a match in each game-mode on any map while another requires you to win each game-mode on any map while playing ranked matches. If you want to boost this, you will need a minimum of 4 people and if you want a full lobby to avoid randoms, you will need a maximum of 8 persons. Each game-mode consists out of 3 rounds except Free For All. There are 4 game-modes to play:

Hide ads

1. Rescue:
In this mode you will either need to collect health packages as a member of the Survival side, or you will need to prevent packages to be delivered to the designated spot on the map. The default settings are delivering 5 packages as a Survivor and while playing in the Solarii class, you will need to get 20 kills. The main problem is that a kill only counts when the opponent is completely dead. In this mode, players can revive each other while playing in the Survivors class and if that happens, the kill does not count. Classes are switched every round except when you draw the first two rounds. Before the third round a voting will pop up and you can choose as which class you want to play with.

2. Cry For Help:
This game mode can be compared to a Domination-like game mode since you will need to capture radio stations when you’re playing as a Survivor. While playing as a Solarii-member, you need to defend those points and collect batteries from people you’ve killed.

3. Team Deathmatch:
This game is all about killing. The first team that reaches 20 total kills will win the round.

4. Free for All:
This mode is probably the game mode that causes the most problems for most gamers willing to complete this game. Since you unlock better equipment every time you level up, it might be nearly impossible to win a match as a low level. To win this match you can opt to do three things:
- Be the first with 15 kills
- Kill all other players to become the executioner. This will allow you to finish the match earlier.
- Have the most kills when the time runs out.

Playing and winning each single one of these game modes while in ranked playlists will award you with the following achievements:

  • Adventurer

Played a match to completion in all multiplayer modes.

    Adventurer
2 guidesOnline Mode - These achievements require a connection to live services, such as Xbox Live, for playing an online game mode, for sharing content, accessing leaderboards, or validating data with a server.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Versus - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a face off gamemode who have met the achievement requirements.

  • I'm all that!

Won a ranked match in every multiplayer mode.

    I'm all that!

MISCELANEOUS ACHIEVEMENTS

After these two achievements, you can set up a boosting session with just two other persons since all of the following can be done in private games. Allow me to give you an achievement walkthrough but note that all of the descriptions are underneath the listed achievements.

  • Artilleryman

20 enemy players killed with a turret in multiplayer.

    Artilleryman
2 guidesOnline Mode - These achievements require a connection to live services, such as Xbox Live, for playing an online game mode, for sharing content, accessing leaderboards, or validating data with a server.Versus - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a face off gamemode who have met the achievement requirements.Cumulative + - These achievements are obtained by repeatedly performing the same action or set of actions over time.

Most of the multiplayer maps will have a turret in the middle of the map and the two maps where they can be found the easiest are “Beach” and “Underground”. Getting this achievement can be done in any game mode and in any playlist you like since the 20 kills are cumulative.

Have your boosting buddy take a zipline down and kill him while he is riding it down. This can easily be done with every full automatic gun or with a shotgun. This all depends on your preferences.

For the following achievement, you will need to play as a member of the Survivor class. To do this, stand underneath the bottom of a zipline and have your boosting partner shoot you until your screen is flashing red. Jump on the zipline and hold the X-button to use the rope ascender. Repeat this 3 time to unlock this. Please note that Solarii-classes never have the rope ascender equipped while Survivors have this automatically equipped.

While running through the map you might have noticed an X-button prompt popping up every now and then. If you see cords on the ground, it means you can set up a trap. Press X to activate it and have your boosting partner running over it to become trapped. You do not need to kill your boosting partner for the achievement to unlock. Most maps will hold 4 or 5 traps for you to activate.

The easiest way to unlock this achievement is standing behind your boosting partner until the Y-prompt appears above their head. Press it to do an instant death. Mashing the Y-button might help you unlock this achievement as well.

This achievement requires you to have two boosting partners. Let them stand together while they are teamed up in any mode and press up on the D-Pad to get your grenade launcher out (pre-set while playing as a Survivor). Aim the grenade in between them to enjoy a double kill and this easy achievement.

This achievement can only be unlocked in the game mode Rescue. When one of your team members is in Last Stand, go near them and press the B-button to get them back up. Easy!

All game modes have a respawn delay and this achievement requires you to play a team based mode (everything for Free for All). When your partner is dead, stay alive to unlock this easily. While playing online games, this might be easier if you are not playing Rescue to avoid the Last Stand countdown.

This achievement can be boosted solo while playing as a Survivor. Press up on the D-Pad to equip the grenade launcher, aim at your feet but a little bit away. Shoot it and once you’ve taken damage from the explosion but you didn’t die, you can repeat this 9 times to unlock this easily. Grenades are replenished while looting Salvage crates.

This will unlock while going for the "Shopaholic"-achievement, more info below.

This will unlock while going for the "True Commitment"-achievement, more info can be found below.

RANKING AND SHOPAHOLIC

The following two achievements we are going to discuss can be done either solo or with a boosting buddy. Alternatively, you can also play legit and level up that way. The following achievements requires you to be level 60 (collect 1,771,100 EXP) and to collect 226,500 salvage. There are two methods that can help you level up faster, but one is significantly shorter since you can collect salvage while working on your EXP. Please note that you can also play this multiplayer the legit (and long) way to earn the two following achievements.

Method #1:
* Game mode: Rescue
* Map: Any you prefer (in the video below I’m using “Underground”)
* Map options:
- Time limit: 10 minutes (Default setting)
- Number of rounds: 3 (Default setting)
- Medkits to retrieve: Any you like (I’m using the default 5 in the video below)
- Kills: Doesn’t matter
* Loadouts:
- Offensive: Second Wind (unlocked at level 27)
- Survival: Advanced Looting (unlocked by default)
* Press X to make sure you start as the Survivor class.

In the first round, start collecting the packs and carry them all the way to the spot you need to put them in. While carrying the pack, never touch the B button to run faster as you will drop them if you do. Carrying these in one go towards the pre-set spot will award you with a ‘Long Carry’ and 500 EXP. Doing this 5 times in one round will net you 2,500 EXP. Delivering the first package of each round will award you with the ‘Gopher’-bonus and 350 EXP. Each time you deliver a health package, the bonus ‘Medkit Recovered’ will pop up and award you an additional 750 EXP, making it a total of 3,750 after each round. Delivering 3 packages in one round (which will be awarded automatically since you are boosting your level solo) will net you the ‘Delivery Boy’-bonus and an additional 1,000 EXP. Completing the round will award you 300 EXP.

After the first round, you will be switched to the Solarii-class. Roam around the map to loot Salvage boxes. With the ‘Advanced Looting’-perk, you should get between 200 and 300 salvage for each box. The respawn delay of each crate is about one minute so in the 10 minute timer you can do a loop around the map 10 times. Since it will take you about one minute to loot the 5 different crates, you shouldn’t wait more than a few seconds for a crate to respawn. After this round, you should have collected between 10,000 and 12,000 salvage. Completing the round will award you with another 300 EXP.

Before the third round, you will get a voting. Vote for the Survivors and repeat the steps mentioned above. After completing the match, you will get the following:
- 10x Medkits Recovered: 7,500 EXP
- 10x Long Carry: 5,000 EXP
- 2x Gopher: 700 EXP
- 2x Delivery Box: 2,000 EXP
- 2x Round Complete: 600 EXP
- 1x Winning Team: 1,000 EXP
And in between 12,000 and 15,000 salvage. The grand total of the EXP awarded will be something around 16,800 EXP. Of course you can get more bonuses (such as destroying 3 barriers in each round (125 EXP) and/or survive 3 explosions in one round (200 EXP)) and get more EXP.

This method is used best when you start from a low level to collect all the salvage as fast as possible. When you have all the salvage needed, switch to method #2 to grind out your EXP fast. The video below is provided by me and is based off https://www.trueachievements.com/HolyHa1fDead.htm ’s solution.

Method #2:
For this method, you will need one boosting partner and the following set up:
* Game mode: Free for All
* Map: Any you prefer
* Map options:
- Time limit: 20 minutes
- Executioner: On (Default setting, doesn't matter)
- Kills: 100
* Loadouts:
- Offensive: Accomplished Killer (unlocked by default)
- Survival: Doesn't matter
* Press X to make sure both of you start as a member of the Survivor class.

To grind your EXP fast, you both need to have a Grenade Launcher; hence why both of you need the Survivor-class. Go to the middle of the map and meet up with your partner. Stand in front of each other and press up on the D-Pad to equip the Grenade Launcher. Both of you need to shoot each other at the same time. This way you will both die and you will both be awarded for a kill. Do this the full 20 minutes and if everything goes as planned, you will be rewarded with around 92,000 EXP. This way, you will be done in no time and you will be level 60 quick. Credit goes out towards https://www.trueachievements.com/DigitaL+MadnezZ.htm for this method.

Note: While playing on the map "Underground" a sound can be heard when the bunker opens up. In there you can find a button that will start destroying the inside of the facility. Upon interacting with that button, you will get an additional 2 minutes to get kills. Activate this button in the last 30 seconds of your game to maximize your boosting. Big thank you too ForcefulOliver2 for pointing this useful hint out!

Other bonuses:
- Upon collecting 100,000 salvage in the multiplayer, you will receive an additional 50,000 EXP since you fulfilled the "Waste Not" achievement feat.
- Upon reaching level 60 (and unlocking the "True Commitment"-achievement) in multiplayer, you will get a bonus 10,000 salvage. Of course, after following this page, you will not need this.
- All bonuses can be found in the 'Multiplayer'-menu under the 'Feats & Setbacks'-feature.

Upon reaching level 60, you will unlock:

Now all that’s left is buying every single character, weapon and attachments with your hard earned salvage. After buying the last possible thing, you will unlock:
