Lords of the Fallen

Hi there. I'm Ackter, and I'd like to welcome you to my walkthrough for Lords of the Fallen.

Lords of the Fallen is an old-school RPG in the style of Dark Souls, except it's a lot more accessible to the general audience. Just like Dark Souls, when you know what you're doing, the game is reasonably easy. However, if this is your first attempt at a game like this, you're in for some frustrating and challenging times until you get to grips with how it works.

Here's a quick breakdown of the controls:

The general idea is to make yourself as mobile as possible while remaining as armoured as possible. You'll be doing a lot of dodging in this game, and nearly every fight will require it at some point if you don't want to die a lot.

Throughout the game are red crystals which act as checkpoints. They also allow you to level up your character and refill your potions. Use these often.

This game will require three playthroughs and a very short partial in order to achieve 1000G. I'll guide you through your first playthrough in detail, but for the second and third, I offer minimal guidance, except to state specifics needed to unlock achievements. By the third playthrough, it's possible to skip a large portion of the game just by speed-running your way through (the current world record is approximately one hour, but don't expect to be doing that any time soon...).

DLC

A quick note on the DLC: It hasn't been released yet, but it looks like you'll need to complete the main game by killing the final boss using a weapon obtained from the DLC. With this in mind, you may want to hold off on your third playthrough until the DLC is released. I'll supply more detail once the DLC is out and we know for sure.

Hints and Tips

If you want to use fast weapons, such as daggers and staves, spend your skill points on agility. If you want to use heavy weapons, such as greatswords and hammers, spend your skill points on strength. For your first playthrough, concentrate on strength (more info in the walkthrough section).

You will need to raise your faith up to 15 on your first playthrough in order to fully unlock the first level of each spell. You do not need to do this on subsequent playthroughs unless you want to.

Roll through boxes and other destructibles you see on the floor as they can contain items (more so the higher your Luck attribute is).

If you roll off ledges instead of dropping down, you’ll take no fall damage no matter how high the ledge.

Keep an eye on your Weight – the more of your weight limit you use, the slower you move and dodge.

One of the best tactics of the game is a running shield bash followed by a heavy attack. Use this often. Very few enemies are immune to this. Don’t try it on bosses...

Do not remove the seal from any small runes, because we’ll need them for opening doors to secret areas and chests.

When you meet the Blacksmith for the first time, it is worth quitting and reloading until you get a Luck Rune and a Poison Rune. The Luck Rune will significantly increase the damage of your weapon, and the poison rune will add significant damage over time with each hit.

I'll leave you with one final piece of advice for this game: if at first you don't succeed, get used to it. wink

For your first playthrough, we’re going to concentrate on outright damage and survivability (for obvious reasons). With this in mind, select the Brawling magic type and the Set of Warrior equipment. This will give you Armour Set 1/20: Warrior Armour Set and Weapon Type 1/11: the sword Steel Sword.

When it comes to upgrading your attributes, your first priority should be raising your Strength up to 22 – this will allow you to wield one of the most powerful weapons in the game. Then, get your Endurance up to 10 so that you can equip the best early-game heavy armours. You will also need to get your Faith up to 15 in order to max out your magic type for the related achievement, so keep that in mind (you can save this for your second or third playthrough if you wish, especially if you feel like experimenting with a Faith-based build).

Note: You will not need to put any XP into Spell Points as we’ll find enough Spell Point Shards throughout the game to unlock the achievement – unless of course you want to use spells.

In order to equip the strongest weapon, shield and armour in the game, you will require a Strength of 34 and a maximum Weight limit of approximately 50. You will not necessarily need these weapons/armour - and for most of the walkthrough I will be advising lower attributes during the first playthrough in order to maximise achievement gain – but once you’ve hit my recommended attributes (22 Strength, 15 Faith, 10 Endurance), feel free to head towards these goals for some serious tanking.

During this walkthrough, I will be directing you to pick up as much loot as possible, so that, depending on your playstyle, you know where to find the weapons you want. During your other playthroughs, you can choose to only pick up what you need, if that’s how you want to play.

It should also be noted that during this playthrough, we will be killing everything we can in order to unlock the following achievement:

Killing monsters

Kill all types of enemies at least once

Killing monsters
3 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle Player

I'm listing this achievement here instead of in the walkthrough as it might pop at different times. In your second and third playthroughs, you can then run past enemies or entire sections without fear of missing any monster types.

With all that decided, let’s get started.

Monastery

After the opening cutscene, proceed forwards to enter the battle tutorial. Once it’s complete, head up the stairs in front of you where you’ll find Kaslo next to a large set of doors. Before talking to him, look to his right to find Audio Note 1/60: The Guard. This will unlock:

2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerCollectable

Speak to Kaslo about opening the door to update your quest. Head back down the stairs, and locate the door to the side of you. Enter and prepare for battle as there’s an enemy immediately to your left. Head to the right, and raise your shield as there’s another enemy just around the corner.

Head down the stairs to your left to face two more enemies. In the corner, you’ll see a half-open grate behind two breakable bookcases that you can roll under to find a chest containing an Empty Bottle. Head back up the stairs and continue around the walkway to find another enemy. Kill it, and pick up Audio Note 2/60: The Sick.

Enter the corridor to your side, and you’ll be attacked by an enemy. Kill it and then another not far beyond it. Next to the second enemy you’ll find Audio Note 3/60: Monk Notes.

Head down the stairs in this room to enter the Cellars. Be wary of the enemy lying at the foot of the stairs – wait for it to get up before attacking. You’ll see an item just along the floor, but there’s another enemy lying next to it. Once it’s dead, pick up the item to receive the Giant’s Key.

Head back up the stairs, and you’ll notice a rune on the floor. This denotes where a portal will appear once you’ve defeated a formidable enemy. Continue up the nearby stairs to face a tougher enemy. It’s not safe to try and tank his attacks, so dodge when you can, and then counter. Behind it, on a ledge overlooking the first room you entered, you’ll find an Energy Shard.

Drop down, but don’t speak to Kaslo yet. You are about to face the first boss of the game. There’s two ways to go about this: the normal way, and the I-want-my-achievements way. I’m going to assume you’re after the latter, so remove all of your armour and your shield (seriously). Talk to Kaslo, and choose “Support me” (this refills your potions, though you won’t be needing them for this bit).

Open the door and get ready to face:

The First Warden

As you’ve probably assumed, seeing as you’re running around in your pants, that the aim here is to beat the First Warden without being hit. This isn’t particularly easy, but it’s a lot easier than trying it with every other boss. As well as getting an extra achievement, you’ll also gain progress towards another achievement later on. Note: you must meet this requirement, or you will not receive the special version of the boss item required for the achievement.

The First Warden has a couple of different attacks. His first involves swinging his sword in a combo of up to four swings. His second involves hitting you with his shield. His third involves a quick shield bash followed by a sword swing if you get too close. His fourth is a lunge attack. His fifth involves a massive back swing before slamming the floor in front of him – this is the attack you need to pay attention to as it leaves the biggest opening for counter attacking.

You need to dodge all of his attacks (rolling sideways is preferable). When you see him charging up for the floor slam, dodge sideways, and hit him twice. Don’t be greedy. This’ll take a while, but it’s the safest way of doing it.

As you deplete each bar of his health, he will knock you back and then retreat to a defensive stance – do not go near him here as he has a very fast lunging attack from this position.

Once you have done a significant amount of damage to him, the First Warden will throw aside his shield and unleash a spinning attack. Keep backing away from it until it stops. He will then revert to his normal attack pattern, with the occasional spinning attack thrown in.

Now, if at any point the First Warden manages to damage you (some of his attacks don’t hurt), and I’m sure he will, allow yourself to be killed. This will unlock:

Enter the First Warden’s room to start the fight again. You will see a glowing presence where you died. Run over, and pick this up to unlock:

Once you’ve managed to defeat the First Warden without taking any damage, there will be an item on the floor where he died. Pick it up to receive a Sealed Rune (Big), along with Special Weapon 1/12 and Weapon Type 2/11: the greatsword Persistence (note: Persistence will increase damage significantly as you level up, so keep an eye on its attributes and equip it when it’s better than what you have). Now re-equip your shield and armour, and let’s continue. In the centre of the room, you’ll see a large red crystal item. Interact with it to open the Character Development menu. Spend your first Attribute point to unlock:

Now use the red crystal to refill your health potions and create a checkpoint (save the game).

Exit the room (the door opposite the way you came in), and kill the enemies on the top floor. To one side, you’ll find Audio Note 4/60: Three Heroes.

Behind the nearby bowl of fire, you’ll find a chest containing Armour Set 2/20: Rogue Armour Set. Continue down the stairs to find another enemy. Behind him is a door. Open it, and kill the two enemies in side. In the central room, you’ll find a chest containing Weapon Type 3/11: the stave Monk Staff. You’ll also find Audio Note 5/60: Villager Notes.

There is a secret room in here, but it contains an enemy that will easily kill you, so ignore it for now. Continue down to the bottom of the stairs to find Audio Note 6/60: Their Purpose.

At the bottom, you’ll find two enemies. Kill them, and open the chest to receive Armour Set 3/20: Cleric Armour Set. Go back up one set of stairs, and look at the base of the statue. Jump over on to the base to reach the Northern Monastery Wing Door Key. Now backtrack to the very first room in the Monastery.

Look above the door to the side of this room to see a curtain – this is hiding a ledge you can jump to. Head back up the stairs, and use the higher ground to jump to the ledge. Head up the stairs here to find a Ghost Merge Shard. Continue up the stairs, and open the door for Secret Room 1/15. Inside, you’ll find a Shard of the Heroes.

Head back down, and enter the door below the curtain – we’re heading to the portal marked by the runes we saw earlier. Enter the portal for Treasure Chamber 1/3 and head forwards. Do not touch the darkness, or you will take damage. Here, you’ll find a chest containing a Bulwark Shield and a Ghost Merge Shard. Look to the left and right to find two more chests containing a Faithful Disciple ring, an Empty Bottle, a Magic Energy Shard, an Energy Shard, and a Sealed Rune (Small). The Bulwark shield is one of the best all-around shields in the game, so make sure to equip it.

Exit the portal, and immediately ready for an attack – all enemies will respawn when you exit a portal. It’s now time to leave the Monastery. Proceed back through the boss room (use the red crystal if you wish), and fight your way back down the stairs. On the bottom floor, you’ll find the exit.

Monastery Walls

Immediately to your left, you’ll see a red crystal. Use it to save and refill your health.

Head down into the courtyard, killing the enemy on the way. Kill the three enemies in the courtyard, and you’ll come to a closed gate. Take the stairs to the right of the gate, defeat the enemy up here, and pull the lever on the wall. Do the same with the stairs on the left of the gate to open it. Make sure to smash all of the containers on the floor here as you’re very likely to find a Sealed Rune (Small). Now head through the gate, and talk to the Monk inside.

Choose to cut the Monk’s hand off yourself to unlock:

Tell him to seek help, and then offer a potion to receive Weapon Type 4/11: the axe Butcher. Note: if you do not offer a potion, you will block a future achievement, so please ensure you give him the potion.

Behind the Monk are two doors. The one to the right is blocked, so enter the one on the left. Inside are two small spiders and a chest containing the Hotblood chest piece and helmet.

If you have the Monk’s Decipher DLC pack, a cowering man that gives you a small quest is about to appear. If you don’t have the DLC, he won’t be there so you won’t be able to do the small quest (the Signs of Antanas) or receive his item. I’ll highlight the DLC sections in italics.

Head down the stairs, and you’ll see an enemy in a corridor half way down. Kill it and proceed through to the next room. Speak to the man cowering in the corner and tell him the place is filled with monsters. Offer to help him, and he’ll give you the Guide of Antanas ring. Equip it.

Head back down the stairs, and continue to the bottom. Open the door to head outside. Kill the two enemies out here (one is an archer), and head up the stairs on the other side. Go through the room, and descend the stairs with your shield raised – there’s an enemy waiting for you just beyond the arch.

Kill the enemy in this room, and place a rune on the slot in the chest to open it. Inside, you’ll find an Attribute Point Shard and the Live Elements boots, glove, and helm. Next to the other set of stairs, you’ll find an Audio Note 7/60: Ninth Night.

Head up this set of stairs, and defeat the enemy at the top. Take the stairs down to the wall on the left, and kill the four enemies here. This path leads back to the one-handed Monk, but it also holds a chest about half way down it. Open it to receive Armour Set 4/20: Symmetry. This will be better than your current set, but it’ll also likely be far too heavy to currently use (though you can very likely mix parts of it with the Live Elements armour found earlier in order to stay under weight). Whenever you level up, make sure to check if you can equip this and still be under your weight limit.

Look on top of the wall to the left of the chest and fire pot to find an interaction site – this is the site of the first sign of Antanas. Head back up the stairs and down the other side. Look behind you to see a lever that opens a gate. This will be a shortcut for later. Look at the wall of the stairs to your left to find another sign of Antanas. Head forwards to trigger a cutscene and receive the Mysterious Gauntlet. This will unlock:

1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMain Storyline

You will be attacked by two enemies, one of which is an archer. Use the Gauntlet to kill the archer, then defeat the other enemy. Once they’re dead, to your side, you’ll find an Audio Note 8/60: Gauntlet. Head to the area just below where the archer was stood, and look to the wall on the right. This is the third and final sign of Antanas. Now use the recently-opened shortcut to return to the cowering man.

Speak to him to complete his quest and receive the Compass ring. This ring, when equipped, will chime whenever you are near a secret area. Now head back to where you found the Gauntlet (there will be no more sections regarding the Monk’s Decipher DLC). Continue onwards, and you’ll see a red crystal off to the left. Approach it for a cutscene.

Talk to Yetka, and finish the conversation. Speak to her again to receive a quest to find her dagger. Now return to the red crystal and save. You can also level up your character (remember to use the Attribute Point Shard you received earlier as well).

Head up the stairs to the right of the red crystal. Kill the enemy up here, and then head down the other set of stairs. Kill the enemy down here, and open the chest to receive a Fire Resistance Shard and Weapon Type 5/11: the shortsword Lethal Secret. At the bottom of the stairs you came down, you will also see Audio Note 9/60: Fancy Looks. Head up the small set of stairs to the right of the audio note to find another chest. Open it to receive Weapon Type 6/11: the hammer Pain, a Magic Resistance Shard, and the Live Elements chest piece. This will complete Armour Set 5/20: Live Elements.

Use the lever to the right of the chest to open the gate, but don’t go through. This is just a shortcut for later. Instead, head back down the small stairs, and go further down again. Be very careful down here as there’s a giant spider that can easily kill you. If you want to be sure, run back to the red crystal, and save before continuing. Be especially wary of its gas cloud attack as it will poison you. Stay close to it, and circle it for your best chance. It will also periodically emit smaller spiders. Take them out as soon as you can.

Once it’s dead, open the chest in here to receive Weapon Type 7/11: the greathammer Spike and a Magic Energy Shard. Now head back up to the floor above.

Walk over to the broken wall, and look down to find a platform holding an object. Carefully drop down to pick up the Tower Key. Hug the wall to the right, walk to the next platform, and follow the stairs down. Defeat the two enemies, and enter the door.

Immediately on the other side, you’ll find Audio Note 10/60: Sixth Night. To the left will be an enemy - kill it. Open the door, and kill the enemy outside. Open the chest, and you’ll receive the Fate axe. Jump over to the wooden stairs to the right of the chest and head up. There’ll be an enemy in the door to the right and another two on the path to the left. Kill them (keep an eye out as one of them will resurrect). Head to the left, jumping over the gaps, to find a chest containing the Prejudice staff and a Sealed Rune (small). Head back around and up the stairs to the door.

Kill the three enemies in the room (one of which will resurrect), and open the chest to receive the Hot Blood boots and gloves. This will complete Armour Set 6/20: Hot Blood. To the side of the room, you’ll see an item. Pick it up to receive Weapon Type 8/11: the dagger Yetka’s Dagger. Head up the stairs to the left of Yetka’s dagger to open a shortcut. Continue through, and head back to Yetka.

Speak to her to complete her quest and receive the Key to Catacombs. You most likely won’t be using it, but it’s nice to get the XP. Use the red crystal behind you to level up and save. Take off your shield, and open the portcullis past Yetka. Kill the enemies inside and prepare yourself - it’s time to fight another boss.

The Commander

As you’ve probably guessed after removing your shield, you need to beat this boss without blocking. Again, you must meet this requirement to gain progress towards an achievement. Hold your weapon in both hands to increase damage output. Also note that you will be interacting with one of the statues during this fight in order to gain another achievement.

The Commander has a number of attacks, the first of which is a ground slam with his shield. Take a few steps back to avoid this. His second attack is an attempt to knock you over with his shield. Again, this is a close range attack and easily avoided. For his third attack, he’ll yell and point his sword at the ground, shooting an electric attack out of the end. This is the perfect time to get really close and get a couple of good hits in. He has regular sword attacks, which you can dodge as normal. He also has a lunge attack, but if you keep circling, this is unlikely to hit you.

He is able to slam the floor with his shield and call down bolts around the arena – they’re pretty easy to avoid, and he can also start swinging his sword over his head before unleashing two large energy waves across the courtyard. A well timed dodge to the side can avoid these.

When you remove a section of his life bar, he will create a shield wall around himself and call for reinforcements. These will just be regular enemies and are easily taken care of. After killing the reinforcements is the perfect time to use your Shard of the Heroes on one of the statues around the arena. Once you do this, allow the Commander to destroy the statue. The three statues are of the Cleric, Rogue, and Warrior. The Cleric statue holds the Cleric Hammer, the Rogue statue holds the Revenge daggers, and the Warrior holds the Warrior sword. Note that after the fight, you will receive the weapon that the statue was holding. None of these weapons are as powerful as Persistence, so it doesn’t matter which you choose.

Once the reinforcements are dead, the Commander will dismantle his shield wall (keep watch to avoid the hits) and begin attacking you again. Keep working away at him when you have an opening, and it won’t take long to kill him.

Once he is dead, assuming you haven’t blocked at all during the fight, you will receive a Sealed Rune (Big), Weapon Type 9/11: the fist weapon Arrowhead and Special Weapon 2/12: Commander Shield.

Don’t forget to re-equip your shield and to pick up your new weapon from the foot of the destroyed statue. Here you can either backtrack to save by Yetka, or proceed onwards for a cutscene. I advise heading back first, as you now have a huge amount of XP to use. You should easily be able to get your strength up to 22 now, so you can start putting XP into Faith ready to max out the magic, and into Endurance ready to equip the heavier armours later in the game.

Monastery Exterior Walls

Head up the stairs on the other side of the courtyard for a cutscene. After the conversation is over, walk through to the fountain area, and look to the far right. Here, you’ll find another portal leading to Infinite Void 1/3.

Directly to your left will be a chest. Open it, and follow the light it emits. You will be attacked in the darkness and will find more enemies around a chest in the lit area you are led to. Kill them, and face the chest in the centre. You will very likely be under fire here from somewhere in the darkness. While facing this chest, walk backwards until the chest begins to blur and then look to your left. Head slowly into the darkness here, and you will find the archer enemy nearby.

It is now safe to open the chest. Inside, you will find the Qamar staff and an Energy Shard. While facing the chest, turn to your right to find another lit area. Touch the light, and it will fly off. Run after it, avoiding the enemies that appear, and the light will hover over a chest. If you’re quick enough, you will be able to retrieve a Sealed Rune (Small) and a Fire Resistance Shard. You can now kill off the enemies attacking you and exit the portal.

Immediately look to your right, and you’ll see an item on the floor down the path. Collect it to receive the Bloody Flint. There will also be a shielded enemy nearby. Get its attention, and lead it back to the area outside the portal so you have enough room to manoeuvre around it and kill it – or simply hit it with a running shield bash to open up its guard. Once it’s dead, head back down the path. Use the Gauntlet to kill the archer on the walls, and then kill the archer on the path however you like.

To the right of the portcullis, you will find Audio Note 11/60: Fourth Night. Head back to the fountain area and, next to the tree on the other side of the fountain, you’ll find Audio Note 12/60: Last Night. Further ahead will be another shielded enemy. Kill it and continue onwards.

Here you’ll find three more enemies and a red crystal. Create a checkpoint. If you haven’t already, you should easily be able to equip the full Symmetry armour set by now.

To the right of the red crystal is an archway. Head through this archway and be wary of another enemy who will likely attack you. On the right, in front of a locked door, you’ll find Audio Note 13/60: Guard Notes.

Continue down the path, and kill the enemies as you go. You’ll soon reach another archway. Look to your left, and note the door – there is a staircase leading upwards which we will be using soon – but, for now, continue through the archway and further down the path.

Halfway down, you’ll find a portal to your left that is currently closed. Continue onwards. Keep your guard up as there are some relentless enemies towards the bottom that can really pile on the damage if you’re not careful.

Kill the archer at the bottom of the path, and head through the gate. Immediately to your right is another locked portal, and, to the right of that, is a chest containing a Ghost Merge Shard, a Steel Dagger, and the Defiance hammer. Continue on to the red crystal.

You will see Kaslo to the right of the crystal, waving at some doors. In the corner, in between the two, you will find Human Skull 1/25. Speak to Kaslo, and ask him to Support you to refill your health, then create a checkpoint. Head forwards and open the gate - it’s time to face the Worshipper.

The Worshipper

During the fight, the Worshipper will call forth reinforcements. You must have the Worshipper kill two of these himself in order to meet the requirements for the special weapon. Luckily, this is rather easy.

The Worshipper has a number of very dangerous attacks, including one which will kill you instantly. Fun. As well as the usual assortment of attacks and bashes, there are three in particular that you need to watch out for. The first is a ground slam when you’re near, which will stun you for a few seconds. The second is if you are far away. He will slam the ground, and blades will shoot up from underneath your feet, dealing big damage. The third, and most deadly, will see him kneel on the floor, and summon blue mist around the arena. When this happens, you have enough time for two or three hits before you must run to one of the shrines around the edges of the arena. Stay inside the shrine until the blue mist attack has finished, or you will instantly die. Luckily, this is the attack we will be using to meet the special weapon requirements, as any normal enemy caught in it will die as well. He also has a mid range attack where he throws grenades at you, but these are easily avoided.

As he can dish out a lot of damage, as can the enemies he summons, make sure you have the best possible armour combination on. Your aim will to be to get in a few hits when you can (if you bait the ground slam, you can roll backwards to avoid it, dodge his follow up attack, and get a few hits in). Remember not to kill the enemies until the Worshipper has killed two of them himself.

It’s also possible to stun the Worshipper by baiting him towards the shrines. If you can get him to hit the shrines, they will collapse on him, giving you enough time for getting in some damage.

Once dead, he will drop Special Weapon 3/12 and Weapon Type 10/11: the greataxe Clawfinger. He will also drop a Sealed Rune (Big). This will unlock:

Now walk around the edges of the graveyard. Here you will find Audio Note 14/60: Kyle’s Grave, Audio Note 15/60: Temple, and Human Skulls 2-5/25. Now, return to Kaslo, but continue past him without speaking to him. Ignore the first portal as it will still remain closed. Enter the second portal for Proving Ground 1/4.

The Proving Grounds consist of waves of enemies, triggered by standing on the circular plate in the centre of the arena, with a reward at the end for defeating them. The first two waves should be no problem, but the third wave will be very difficult. It contains a huge, fast shielded enemy that is very difficult to beat. It deals out massive damage and can easily break your guard. The best way is to run at them and shield bash, following it up with an attack. Do this a few times, and you should defeat it.

Once the wave is over, you’ll find a chest containing the Backbreaker ring – equip this as it will considerably increase your weight limits. You’ll also receive an Attribute Point Shard and a Spell Point Shard. Use the red crystal to spend your XP (don’t forget your shards), create a checkpoint, and then exit the portal.

Head back up the path until you reach the door from earlier. Climb the stairs next to the door, and kill the two enemies at the top. Light the pyre for some easy XP, and kill the enemy that appears. There’s another staircase here leading downwards, so head down and kill the enemy there. There’s a small staircase here that leads to a gate (which you can open for a shortcut later) and a chest containing the Crest Shield, the Buckler, and an Empty Bottle.

Head back down the small staircase, and approach the gap in the wall. Look down and you’ll see a chest. Roll off the tower (to save fall damage) and open the chest. You will receive the Guard’s Greatsword, a Magic Resistance Shard, and another Empty Bottle. Head down the path to find Audio Note 16/60: Grim Graves. Drop back down into the graveyard.

To the right of where you just landed is a door to the Catacombs. This is a very tough area, but we’re just going to run in, grab something, and run straight back out.

Once you’re inside, run quickly down the stairs and corridor. Use a rune to open the door on your right, just in front of the shielded enemy, for Secret Room 2/15. Open the chest to receive the greataxe My Axe and equip it.

Now run back up the stairs, and leave the Catacombs. Head through the graveyard, back to Kaslo, and save the game. Speak to Kaslo, and enter the portal he opens.

You are now in the crafting screen. Here, break the seal on all three of your Big Runes. If you’re very lucky, you’ll get a Flawless Poison Rune and a Flawless Luck Rune. If so, equip them both on My Axe for some serious damage output. If you don’t have them, just select the best ones you do have (Poison and Luck are the most useful), and equip them instead. You can also equip runes to your Symmetry armour set if you receive suitable ones, but always think of damage output first.

If you really want the best, you can quit to the main menu, and try this over and over (make sure you saved just outside the Rhogar Realm first) until you get what you want.

Once you are done, exit the crafting screen, and continue up the stairs. Use the red crystal to create a checkpoint, and speak to Yetka. Turn around, and head back down the stairs. On either side of these stairs are doorways. Firstly, take the one to your left.

You’ll be on a short ledge overlooking a circular room. Look to your right, and there’s an item on a smaller ledge. Jump over to collect a Magic Energy Shard. Jump back to the first ledge, and then jump across the other side to find a stairway. There are some enemies in this room who are likely to be near by now, so kill them and descend the stairs. Be very weary of the crossbow enemy as he does serious damage. If they’re at the bottom of the stairs, you can use your lunging attack to easily defeat them.

Follow the wall around, and you’ll find a small gate leading into another room. Open this, and kill the two enemies inside. Pull the lever they were guarding. This is first lever needed to open the large gate by Yetka. Break all of the furniture to the left of the lever to reveal an item. Collect it for an Ancient Plate. Head back out into the circular room.

Follow the wall around the room to find another set of stairs leading back up. On a small ledge up here, you will see an item. Collect it to receive an Energy Shard. On the wall behind the shard is a written message. Look to your right, and you’ll see a doorway above the stairwell. Head over here and kill the enemy. There is a chest here containing Weapon Type 11/11: the polesword Lost Pike. This will unlock:

Next to the chest is Audio Note 17/60: Crafter’s Pet. Head back to Yetka, create a checkpoint/level up if you wish, and head through the door on the other side of the stairs. Directly ahead of you will be a chest containing the Wisdom helmet and chest pieces.

Down the stairs you’ll find two large dog enemies, another crossbow enemy in the centre, and another dog enemy waiting behind the stairs to ambush you. Try and bait the dogs to the stairs to keep out of the crossbower’s sights, before rushing over to kill him as well. There will be a second staircase here leading up to an archer enemy. Opposite him will be a pathway leading to an item. Collect it to receive a Poison Residence Shard.

Roll off the nearby ledge, and walk around the room. You’ll find a gate leading to another room. Pull the lever in here (ignore the chest as it’s locked) and then return to Yetka.

Yetka will be gone, and the large door here will now be open. Walk through the gate and immediately stop. Look to your left, and smash the decorative urn right by the doorway. Inside you’ll find Tyrant Heart 1/9. Without this, the enemy in this room will be immortal, so make sure to pick it up. Now kill the enemy in the centre of the room, carrying the huge polesword – do so without venturing near the outside of the room to avoid being attacked by other enemies.

He’s pretty easy to kill, but his attacks hurt one hell of a lot, so be careful. Once defeated, he’ll drop an item from which you’ll receive the Small Western Antechamber Key. You can now kill the dog enemies and a crossbow enemy around the room. Now walk around the edge of the room, and, in front of a closed gate, you’ll find an Empty Bottle. There’s also a Sealed Rune (Small) near one of the fire pots.

Before continuing, backtrack to the room which had the three dogs and crossbow enemies. Head up the second set of stairs here, and use your new key to open the gate at the top. Inside here, you’ll find an Ancient Plate on the floor, and a chest containing Cunning leg armour and an Attribute Point Shard. Now head back to the arena where you fought the immortal enemy, saving on your way.

At the back of the arena, you will find a large, wide staircase leading up the walls around this arena, which are covered in enemies. Head up here and turn right. At the bottom of another set of stairs, you’ll find a Sealed Rune (Small).

Now head around to the other side of the walls, killing the enemies along the way, and you’ll reach another arena. In the arena, you’ll see a strange looking enemy. There is also a crossbow enemy in there as well, off to the right. Wait for the weird enemy to be as far away from you as possible, then enter the arena, and kill the crossbow enemy.

Once he’s dead, take on the other enemy – he’s a lot easier than he looks. Around the edge of this arena, you’ll find Audio Note 18/60: Rifts, and a chest containing the Lurker Thrust greatsword. You will also find a set of stairs leading to the lower floor. Kill the enemy at the bottom of the stairs, and open the door directly ahead of them. A lever inside will open a shortcut back to the earlier arena. There’s another gate to the side of the stairs that opens into one of the circular rooms from earlier.

With those two shortcuts open, continue down the corridor to face your first mage enemy. Try and bait it to come to you, otherwise there’s a large enemy around the corner, and you’ll most likely die. Once you have the mage’s attention, make sure to avoid every spell it throws at you. Several of them are strong enough to kill you in one hit. Use a Magic Resistance Shard if you’re having trouble. Once you do manage to kill it, immediately roll away as the mage will explode, dealing serious damage.

Once the mage is dead, the mage should drop the Two-Horned Shield. It is an exceptional shield, especially against magic, though it will let through a little more physical damage than you’re used to. It’s definitely worth equipping. You can now pick up the Ancient Plate item half way down the corridor. Near the Ancient Plate will be a door with a rune lock. Open it and inside you’ll find a chest containing the Greed ring and an Empty Bottle.

Now it’s time to take on the large shielded enemy around the corner. Remember, a running shield bash is the best way to open it up for the kill. Through the gate behind this enemy is a portal, which is currently closed, and another shortcut back into the main arena. Go through the gate.

Head back up the stairs in this arena and go left. You’ll soon see a statue, which has an inscription that you can read. Behind this is a path. Head down it, and kill the enemy at the bottom of the stairs. Turn right to find a red crystal. Save and continue on past it into a cave.

Tread very carefully here, as it’s easy to fall in and die. Follow the wall around the left side of the cave, jumping when you need to, to find a chest containing a Spell Point Shard, a Poison Resistance Shard, and the Griffin leg armour. The Griffin set is considerably better than what you are currently using, so equip each piece of it as we go along. Now head back to the entrance of the cave.

Jump across to the ledge against the right wall, and follow it around to find a Fire Resistance Shard. Attract the attention of the spider across the way, and wait for it to come to you – it’ll very likely walk off the edge and kill itself. Once it’s dead, jump across the gap, and pick up the Ancient Plate.

Proceed forwards very carefully, and you’ll be attacked by a small spider as you approach the arch. Once it’s dead, head slowly through the arc, and another spider will drop from the ceiling. Kill it quickly. If it doesn’t drop down, shoot it off of the ceiling yourself. To the side of the arch is a chest containing the stave Conceit. Now make your way carefully back to the red crystal.

Continue past the crystal (save/level if you wish), and head down the large path. Stick to the left to avoid the enemy hiding down the right path as it can’t be killed yet. Continue on, and you’ll find another weird enemy. Kill it, and head to the back-left of this arena. You’ll be ambushed by two enemies – one from behind and one from inside the bushes ahead of you. Kill them, and head into the bushes where it was hiding to find a Magic Energy Shard.

Follow the edge of the cliff around the arena to find a chest containing the greataxe Swing and complete Armour Set 7/20: Wisdom. Continue around the edge of the area, and you’ll see a crossbow enemy standing on a hill under a tree. Sneak up, and quickly kill it as there’s a number of dog enemies here as well.

Walk around the edge of this area to find Audio Note 19/60: My Treasure. Continue onwards to find two archer enemies overlooking the previous path. Kill them, and open the nearby chest to receive the Griffin helmet and gloves. To the right of the chest, next to the fire, is another decorative urn holding a Tyrant Heart 2/9. Collect it and drop down to face the now-mortal enemy. Once it’s dead, head up the stairs it was guarding.

On your way up the stairs, you’ll find an Energy Shard on the right of the path. At the top of the stairs will be a door – head to the left before you get to the door, and follow the wall around on the right to find another Energy Shard on a ledge. Now head up to the door, and pull the lever to open it.

Inside will be a shielded enemy in front of a locked gate. Draw it outside before killing it. Head inside, and look right to find a large shielded enemy. Hit it with a running shield bash and kill it. Behind it, you will find a locked chest and a magic pressure pad on the floor. If you already have Prayer unlocked, cast it while standing on the pressure pad, and then run back to the locked gate. This is Secret Room 3/15. Open the chest inside to find the missing pieces for Armour Set 8/20: Cunning. Roll out of the hole and down to the stairs to exit.

Follow the path down the stairs. Halfway down, on your left, you’ll find another Ancient Plate.

At the bottom of the stairs, you’ll find another immortal enemy – the decorative urn holding Tyrant Heart 3/9 is right behind him. Hit the enemy with a running shield bash, collect the heart, and then turn around and run back up the stairs as another enemy has joined the fight. Kill these two enemies, and head back down the stairs.

To the left of the stairs, you’ll find another small set of stairs and a red crystal. Save and return to where you found the heart. To the right of the door here is a lever. Pull it to open the door. Inside is a giant spider, so kill it. Behind it will be Audio Note 20/60: Cruel Species. Down the other end of the room, you will find another giant spider and a chest. Inside, you will find a Poison Resistance Shard, a Ghost Merge Shard, and the final piece of Armour Set 9/20: Griffon.

Head back to the red crystal and save. Kill the enemy up the stairs to the left, turn left at the closed portal, and continue on to face the next boss.

The Infiltrator

At the back of this arena is an enemy wielding a torch. During your fight with the Infiltrator, he will be lighting more torches. You must kill the Infiltrator as quickly as possible. If the torch enemy manages to light everything before you kill the Infiltrator, you will not receive the special weapon for defeating it. This is a lot easier than it sounds, so don’t worry much.

The Infiltrator is a strange spider-like creature with several attacks. The first is a projectile attack which will stun you. This is only done at distance, but it usually is followed by his second attack, a large jumping slam that hurts like hell. When you get closer to him, his attacks are more manageable. He has the usual sword-like attacks, for which he uses his arms, and a floor stomp he uses to stun you. The centre of the arena is covered in blue light, which will constantly drain your magic while you stand in it. Luckily, we don’t really use magic, so it doesn’t matter.

Once you have him down to 2/3rds of his health, he will release some pods around the arena, which he will use to heal himself. If you touch one of these pods yourself, you will become stuck. As long as you stick close, keep circling him and hitting him while you can, this should be an easy fight. He is especially vulnerable while healing – it’s worth using an Energy Shard so you can do maximum damage while you can.

Once the Infiltrator is dead (and My Axe will make incredibly short work of it), you will receive the Crystal of the Traveller. In the distance, you should see Yetka next to some stairs. For some reason, the Infiltrator’s loot drop often turns up here instead of where you killed it. Collect its loot for a Sealed Rune (Big) and Special Weapon 4/12: the polesword Uras.

This will also unlock:

When you’re done, speak to Yetka. Give her the Ancient Plates you’ve collected in exchange for an assortment of different Shards. Head up the stairs for a cutscene. Ask the Crippled Rhogar about a reward, and agree to do so. You don’t have enough skulls for this yet. Head into the room to the right of the Rhogar, and pull the lever here to open a shortcut.

Don’t go through it – instead backtrack to the previous red crystal as the nearby portal is now open. Enter the portal to find Treasure Room 2/3. Open the three chests in here to receive an Empty Bottle, the greatsword Codex, two Sealed Runes (Small), an Energy Shard, and a Magic Energy Shard.

Head back to the Crippled Rhogar, and turn left past the wall covered in ancient writings. At the top of the stairs is another immortal enemy. You need to run past him and up the stairs to the right. Kill the archer at the top, and the decorative urn will be in the corner. Smash it, and take Tyrant Heart 4/9. Kill the now-mortal enemy.

In the room where you found the heart, pull the lever on the wall to open the door. Head through, and go to the left for a cutscene with some deserters. Give them a potion, and agree to help them to receive some XP. You’ll notice that you’re now back on the walls surrounding the first arena in this section.

Head down in to the arena, and kill all the enemies down here. Leave through the main exit where you’ll find the first red crystal of this area. Now enter the rooms on either side of the stairs, and kill all of the enemies in both rooms. You should hear a musical note when you kill one of these enemies (if you don’t hear the musical note, you may need to also go back and kill the mage from earlier). Once you do, head back to the deserters, and speak to them to receive the dagger Protector.

Now return to the first red crystal and save/level. By now, you’ve probably hit 15 Faith points, so there’s no longer any need to put more XP into Faith.

Head down the stairs towards the Blacksmith for another cutscene. You should have another big rune to break the seal on, so do so now. If you need to rearrange any runes, you can remove them from each item with the cn_X button. Once you’re done, the Blacksmith will disappear, but you can call him back by interacting with the anvil. Now continue down the stairs and across the bridge to leave the Rhogar Realm.

Save/level at the red crystal outside, and head towards the graveyard to your right. Before you can get there, look to the left of the arch to find a dying soldier. Approach him for a cutscene. Once he dies, pick up the Human Tattoo he “drops”. Ew. Now go into the graveyard.

There’ll be a bunch of enemies in here to kill, one of which is almost a carbon copy of the first boss of the game. Luckily, the same tactics apply to him as did the First Warden. Once they’re all dead, head to the door at the back of the graveyard and enter.

Catacombs

Save/level inside, and head down the stairs. Kill the enemy, and continue onwards to enter a circular room with a large enemy inside. Kill it, and look for an opening on the left of the room, leading to an item. Before going down, turn to your left, and head underneath the stairs leading upwards to find Audio Note 21/60: Care. Head around to the other side of the room, and look under the other stairs for a chest containing Armour Set 10/20: Harmony.

Now head down the small opening on the left to find Human Skull 6/25. To the left of the skull is a hole and a small plank crossing it. Jump across the gap (trying to walk will get you killed). Enter the room on the right, and kill the crossbow enemy. At the side of the hole in the centre of this room will be a dead body. Push it into the hole to unlock:

In the corner of the room you’ll find Audio Note 22/60: Mutations. There is an anvil in another corner if you wish to call the Blacksmith. Head into the room opposite this one to find Human Skull 7/25. Head down the stairs in this room, and kill the enemies. Make sure to pick up Human Skull 8/25 near the archer. Head into the door opposite the archer to find Human Skull 9/25 at the bottom of more stairs.

Head up these stairs, killing the enemies here, to find a rune chest. Open it to receive the Cold Blood gloves, chest and leg pieces. To the left of the chest is Audio Note 23/60: Purification. Pull the lever in this room to open a shortcut back to the start of the Catacombs.

Instead of going through (though you can if you wish to save/level quickly), go back down the stairs to the previous room. Head to the back of this room and through the hole in the wall. Go up the stairs, and kill the enemy at the top. Open the door and go inside. A large spider will drop from the ceiling, so kill it quickly. Open the chest to receive Living Legend helmet, leg, and chest pieces.

Continue on a little, and you’ll reach another room with a chest in it. There’ll be an enemy outside and inside this room, so kill them both, and open the chest to receive the dagger Grip. Continue on, and take the first right when the passage splits. Open the door, and kill the enemy inside. Here, you’ll find a closed portal and Human Skull 10/25. Continue on, and you’ll be back in the very first corridor of the Catacombs. Head up the stairs to your left to save/level if you need to.

Now head back down to the circular room. Take one of the stairs directly to your left or right to reach the upper floor, killing the enemies on the way. On your right, you’ll see a half-open gate. Roll under it. Halfway down this small path is a room with an enemy in it. Kill it, and you can use the anvil to call the Blacksmith if you want to. Backtrack under the half-open gate, and head towards the main room.

Before you enter, you can find Audio Note 24/60: Doubts on the left behind a small cage on the floor. Now head into the main room, and kill the crossbow and dog enemies inside. Once they’re dead, go to the red crystal, and head up the nearby stairs. Kill the archer up here, and open the chest to receive an Attribute Point Shard, plus the final pieces to Armour Set 11/20: Living Legend and Armour Set 12/20: Cold Blood.

Go back down the stairs, use any Point Shards you have, and level up. I figure at this point, it’d be helpful to give you a breakdown of my character so far:

Strength: 22

Vitality: 15

Faith: 15

Endurance: 15

Agility: 8

Luck: 1

Prayer 1/3

Rage 1/3

Ram 1/3

Quake 0/3

My Axe greataxe

Bulwark Shield

Living Legend Armour set

Back Breaker ring

If you’re even vaguely near those attributes, you should be having no real problems.

With that done, head into through the open gate right next to the red crystal, and collect Human Skull 11/25. If you head right, you can pick up Human Skull 12/25, and use the lever to open up the gate to collect Audio Note 25/60: Sven’s Hammer.

Head back out, and kill the crossbow enemy walking to your right. Open the door by him to pick up the Lever Handle. Now, turn around, and head around to the left instead. As you walk around, you’ll find Human Skulls 13-16/25. You’ll also find a prisoner asking for help. Talk to him and agree to help. Now it’s time to go around opening all of the remaining cells, killing everything that comes out – including the prisoner. Killing the prisoner will give you a Spell Point Shard.

By opening the cells, you will also find Audio Note 26/60: Blind Fury, Audio Note 27/60: Politicals, Audio Note 28/60: The Branded, Human Skulls 17-20/25, the sword Vanguard Blade, and Special Weapon 5/12: the Blocker shield. Make sure to also pull the large lever on the inner wall to open the way to fight the boss later on.

One of the cells has a stone altar inside covered in candles. You will also see one candle set on the floor against the wall. Shield bash through this wall to find Secret Room 4/15 and the Heirloom hammer.

Near the large lever that opens the boss area is a statue with a corridor opposite it. Here, you’ll be spoken to by some prisoners. Opposite this cell is a chest containing the Cell Key. Now open the cell on the right (when facing the cells). Otherwise, you will lose a quest later on in the game. You will also be able to pick up the Magic Leech ring from the dead prisoner in the left cell.

Ignore the stairs leading upwards, because they head back to the Monastery Walls from the start of the game. Instead, use the lever to the right of the stairs to open a gate and kill the enemies inside. Pick up Audio Note 29/60: Deep Down. To the right side of the note is a set of stairs heading down and then turning under where you stand. To the left of the note, you’ll see stairs going straight down to another room. Don’t go down either for now, but remember where they are – this is the way to the boss.

Now it’s time to backtrack to the small circular room from earlier as we have stuff to do here. Once you’re here, take the small path leading off to the left, and jump over the small hole with the planks on it (you should remember them from earlier too). Enter the small room immediately to the left, and head down the stairs.

At the bottom, turn left, and go down the stairs here, killing the enemies on the way. Go down the passage, and kill the shielded enemy here. Enter the small room to your left to find Audio Note 30/60: Kyle’s Sword. Interact with the chest, and it’ll break open (you can’t do this without the Heirloom in your inventory, which is why we’re only going here now) revealing another Heirloom hammer. This is a weapon we’ll be switching to periodically as we play. It does both magic and lightning damage, which comes in handy greatly.

It’s now time to turn back, again. If you continue onwards, you’ll find yourself outside of the tower we lit the pyre on top of, much earlier in the game. Instead, backtrack to the very first room in the Catacombs and save/level.

Head down the stairs opposite the red crystal and back to the circular room. This time, we’re going to go straight ahead and up the stairs on the opposite side. At the top of the stairs, you’ll find four enemies, one of which is a large shielded enemy – keep him alive and finish off the rest. We’re going to try for an achievement here. Before you enter the next circular room, you’ll find Human Skull 21/25 on the floor to your right.

Now carefully enter the circular room, avoiding the planks in the middle. Switch to two-handing your weapon so that you are able to kick using cn_LT. Across the other side of the room should be the large shielded enemy. Walk around the planks, and engage the shielded enemy – but don’t kill him. What you’re going to try and do now is lure him back to the planks of wood and kick him on to them. If done correctly, he’ll fall through the planks to his death, unlocking:

Along the edge of this room you’ll find a rune chest containing the stave Scab. You will also find a small pressure plate on the floor with a magical sign on it. Remember this as we’ll be coming right back here in a minute.

Head to the other side of the circular room, and enter the passage. Immediately to your left will be a locked door. What you need to do now is go back to the pressure plate, and activate it by placing a Prayer spell on top of the plate, then run through this door to find Secret Room 5/15. Interact with the statue inside to receive the shortsword Bloodlust.

Across the corridor from this room is another door. Open it and head inside. A large spider will drop to the floor so kill it, then pick up Audio Note 31/60: End of the Line. Now it’s time to make our way to the boss.

Exit this room and turn right. Head up the stairs, and kill the enemies at the top. You’ll be back in the room with the double stairs that head underneath where you are currently standing. At the bottom of the stairs, you’ll find a red crystal, so save/level before continuing.

There’s an archway heading under the stairs with a shielded enemy inside. Kill it, and continue on to find Human Skull 22/25. Kill the spider that drops to the floor, and pick up Audio Note 32/60: Troublemakers. Pull the lever on the wall to open the portcullis to the boss arena. Equip your Bulwark Shield and Heirloom hammer, and then head inside.

The Champion

In order to receive the special weapon for this boss, we have to defeat him without him enraging (note: he will briefly enrage after every health segment you remove from him, but this doesn’t count for the weapon requirements). He will gain rage every time he hits you, or you hit him with a damage-over-time weapon.

His first, and most important, attack is a full-on charge at you. This is the one we will be exploiting the most. As he starts his charge, get ready to deflect his attack using cn_LT. If timed correctly, which is very hard to get down, this will stagger the Champion, allowing you to get a few good hits in (briefly change to two-handing your weapon for extra damage) before withdrawing to a safe distance and baiting out another charge. If you don’t withdraw quickly enough, he’ll slam the floor, stunning you.

His other attacks include the usual close range attacks, plus one where he slams the floor, sending an attack through the floor to your feet. You can roll out of the way of these. When he does enrage, his attacks will do a lot more damage, so be extra careful. Towards the end, he starts throwing flaming blades at you along the floor. These are incredibly hard to dodge, but do your best. You basically need to be moving as soon as he starts winding up for the attacks.

He also has a grab attack, which will do serious, serious damage. Just don’t get close to him.

Your strategy will never change. Just wait at a distance, and deflect his charge attacks before punishing him. If you’re having trouble, change to the Harmony armour set for this fight. It allows you to move and dodge more quickly, while having a higher fire resistance.

If he enrages at any point other than when losing a level of health, allow him to kill you and try again. His rage cools down if you go for any length of time without him hitting you, so if you need to, just keep avoiding his attacks until he’s calm again.

Once he’s dead, he’ll drop a Sealed Rune (Big) and Special Weapon 6/12: the Sting fist weapon. This will also unlock:

Now change back to My Axe and the Living Legend armour set. Towards the side of the room is a soldier calling to you. Go talk to him. Before you go through the door behind him, turn around, and run to the side of the arena directly opposite. Turn to your right, and you’ll see another doorway. Head inside to find Human Skull 23/25 and a magical pressure plate.

Past the pressure plate is a ramp heading downwards. To the right of the ramp, on a very thin ledge, is Human Skull 24/25. Head down the stairs and turn right. Open the door here to find a chest containing Special Weapon 7/12: the shortsword Bloodsick.

Go back out, and follow the path around to find a portcullis with an item behind it. This is the door that opens with the pressure plate you just passed. Go back, cast Prayer on the plate, and then run here to find Secret Room 6/15. On the floor, you’ll find Human Skull 25/25. This will unlock:

There is also a chest in the room, which contains the Twinkling Axe. Use the lever to open the door, and then break through the boarded-up doorway to your right. On the floor, you’ll find a Sealed Rune (small) and some spiders to kill.

Now return to the Champion’s arena. Head to the soldier, and go through the doorway behind him, but not through the closed door. To the right of the door is Human Skull 26.

Look to the left of the door to find some stairs - head upwards, and kill the enemies at the top. At the very top of the stairs, after some more enemies, you’ll find Audio Note 33/60: Troublemaker. There will also be a lever here to open a shortcut into a previous area. Head back down the stairs and into the door behind the soldier.

Citadel

Directly ahead of you will be a red crystal, so save and level. It’s time to start upping Strength to 36, as well as your Endurance until you have an upper weight limit of 50+.

Head through the door opposite the red crystal, and go up the stairs. Just outside the door you’ll find Audio Note 34/60: New Disciple. There is another First Warden enemy in here, so take him out carefully. In the corner of the room you’ll find Human Skull 27.

Head past the anvil on one side of the room and up the stairs. Kill the enemy at the top, and then pick up Audio Note 35/60: Judge Disciple. Continue up the stairs, and kill the enemies up here. Be wary, as one of the enemies is a mage. Use a Magic Resistance Shard if you need to. Kill the mage quickly as two more enemies will attack you from behind. Enter the room to the left of where the mage was to get Audio Note 36/60: Join Me and Audio Note 37/60: Old Priest.

Slightly further along is a rune door. Enter for Secret Room 7/15. Inside is an enemy and a locked chest – remember this for later. Continue on to the next room, and kill the First Warden enemy at the bottom of the stairs. This is a much harder fight due to the close confines of the room, so be very careful. There is also a regular enemy in the corner, so try not to attract its attention too early.

Once both enemies are defeated, head up the stairs. There is a large shielded enemy up here. Kill it, and pick up the item next to the statue to receive the Gargoyle and Hawk axe. Continue up the stairs, killing the enemies as you go, and you’ll trigger a cutscene.

Before going through the door, look by the fire, and make sure to pick up Audio Note 38/60: Angry priest. Head through the door, and take the first left for Audio Note 39/60: The Rebel. Also in this room, you’ll notice the one-armed monk from earlier. Speak to him and agree to help. Speak to him one more time as we’ve already cleared his laboratory out earlier on. He’ll ask you to meet him there later.

Head into the room opposite this one, and look to your left. You’ll see a wall with cracks on it. Shield bash your way through it for Secret Room 8/15. You’ll find a chest containing Armour Set 13/20: Will. The Will armour set is a considerable improvement over the Living Legend set – it’s both stronger and lighter - so equip it.

Head into the room with the spiral staircase to find Audio Note 40/60: Books, then head up the stairs. At the top, you’ll find a red crystal, so save and level. At the very top of the spiral staircase is a lift. Step on it and enter.

Ahead of you will be some guards. Before approaching them, turn around to get Audio Note 41/60: I Swear to Her from the balcony. Now approach the guards for a cutscene. Once you’re done, head back down the lift.

Head halfway down the stairs, and enter the room on your left. Ignore the chests on either side of the door as they are locked. Head down the stairs in this room, and kill the enemies at the bottom. The chest down here can be opened to receive the Harmony shield.

The archer enemy you killed was guarding a doorway. Before going through, head to the opposite side to find a door leading to a magic pressure plate. Remember this. Head through the other door, and kill the two enemies inside. Head around the edge of the room to find a chest containing Armour Set 14/20: Dimensions. The next room is tough as there’s another mage inside. There’s also a regular enemy waiting to ambush you. Use a Magic Resistance Shard and rush in – hit the mage quickly, and then run back out of the room. The regular enemy should follow you, allowing you to kill it before finishing off the mage. Once they’re dead, look in the far corner where the mage was for a locked chest and a locked door – the door is opened by the pressure plate from earlier. Head back, drop a Prayer spell on it, and run back here for Secret Room 9/15. Inside is a chest containing Armour Set 15/20: Blessing. Pull the lever to open the door.

Head up the stairs here to face another First Warden enemy. Kill it to trigger a cutscene. This will unlock:

Head down the stairs from the balcony, and backtrack until you reach the locked chests from earlier. Here, you’ll find a monk asking for help so agree to help him. Head down the spiral staircase. Continue onwards for another cutscene, and receive a quest from the Captain. Continue to the bottom of the stairs, and talk to the guards at the bottom for some XP.

Continue onwards, through the area with the mage earlier, and you’ll soon reach a large double door sealed by a magic rune. Shoot it with your gauntlet, and head outside - it’s time to fight the Beast.

The Beast

The Beast is a nasty piece of work, but easily manageable, especially as a Warrior. His first attack, and the one we’ll be exploiting, is a charge attack. Dodge out of the way (it’s quite slow, you can simply walk sideways to avoid it), and then get a few shots in on his legs before backing off. When the yellow bar under his health fills with orange, he’ll be stunned for a while, allowing you to do some major damage to its head.

The best way is to circle near the edge of the arena, baiting his charge. This gives you enough time to get some hits in before he starts attacking you again.

His other attacks are a combination of the usual (which, as you’d expect, do serious damage), with one important exception – he spits poison around the arena, which forms pools on the floor. It is imperative that you do not get hit by, or stand in, the poison as you will fail the requirements for the special weapon. If you do, allow him to kill you and try again.

If you’re having trouble dodging, switch to a combination of the Blessing helmet, Blessing gloves, Will chest piece, Will legs and the Heriloom hammer. This’ll allow you to move faster with little loss in armour.

If you’re having real trouble, just circle around the edge, shooting it with your gauntlet. It’ll take a lot longer, but it’s a lot safer.

Once he’s dead, you’ll receive a Sealed Rune (Big) and Special Weapon 8/12: the hammer Stain. This will unlock:

Ancient Labyrinth DLC Reminder

From this point onward, you will have access to the Ancient Labyrinth DLC. You must complete the DLC before facing the final boss of the main playthrough for a DLC achievement. See the DLC page for information.

Back to the main game...

Speak to the soldier nearby, and agree to help him. Head to the large doors of the Citadel - look on the floor to the right of the door to find a Planetarium Piece. Now it’s time for some backtracking. Head through the courtyard and past the red crystal (save/level if you wish). Head all away along the Walls, killing everything as you go, and enter the Monastery from the very start of the game.

Monastery

Head up the first flight of stairs, and enter the door. Go to the middle room where the chest is, and break through the wall opposite for Secret Room 10/15. Directly ahead of you will be The Cellar Small Key.

Kill the giant spider in the next room, and head up the stairs to find Human Skull 28. Head around the corner, kill the enemy here, and pick up Audio Note 42/60: Point Three. Use the lever just down the stairs here to open a shortcut. Head down the stairs, and kill the spider. Behind it is Human Skull 29. Break through the wall behind it to find Secret Room 11/15 and an Empty Bottle.

Continue down the stairs to find another giant spider. Head along the passage and up the stairs on the other side. Roll under the half-open portcullis to find Secret Room 12/15. Inside will be Audio Note 43/60: Dirty Work. There is also a magical pressure plate.

Go up the stairs opposite and down the other side to find another giant spider and a locked door. Head back to the previous secret room, and use the pressure plate to open this door. Inside you’ll find another giant spider and the Needles fist weapon.

Hanging from the ceiling of this room is a cocoon. Interact with it to receive the Citadel Cellar Key – unfortunately it looks like this is the Monk’s brother we were sent to find. Ah well. Exit the room, and continue down the corridor. Open the door at the end to find a red crystal and the Main Hall Chest Key.

Now head back around the room to the gate you opened with the lever. Head through the door, and kill the enemies inside. Head up the stairs to find the Northern Monastery Wing Chest Key. Work your way around, being careful with the more difficult enemies this time around, and head back to the room where you first entered the Monastery when you started the game.

Head up the stairs, and look to the left to find a chest containing the SHU sword. Now head into the room where you fought the First Warden, and kill the mini-beast in there. Be very careful here as it’s very poisonous. Your best bet is to bait out its triple melee, and then do a quick lunge attack when he finishes before rolling away.

Once it’s dead, look to the large doors at the end of this room, and head through them – you’re now back in the Citadel.

Citadel

Talk to the soldier in front of you for a huge XP bonus. Firstly, turn left, and head up the stairs. Continue all the way up, and head through the door at the top to find the spiral staircase room. Enter the door halfway up the spiral staircase. Speak to the Monk here, and he’ll give you the key to keep. You can now open the chests on either side of the door, receiving the Persistence gloves, chest, and boots.

Now backtrack all the way down the stairs until you’re back at the soldier you helped. Continue past him, and head down the hall back to the main entrance room in the Citadel. Head all the way down the stairs to the bottom, and you’ll find that the door here is now open again. Head through into the cellars.

There are two doors at the end of this room, take the one that leads upwards, which is now open. There are two large shielded enemies up here, so carefully take them out. Look in the middle of the room to find Human Skull 30, the final skull needed for the Crippled Rhogar.

Head to where the second enemy was standing, and go up the stairs. Kill the enemy at the top to find a closed portal and a magical pressure plate. There are three enemies in the next room so kill them, then look at the wall right next to the door. Shield bash through here to find a locked door – this is the door that the pressure plate opens. Do that now to find Secret Room 13/15 and a chest containing a Spell Point Shard and a Magic Energy Shard. Pull the lever to exit.

Backtrack to the room where the two large shielded enemies were, and take the stairs opposite the way we originally came in. Kill the enemies down here and pick up the Curse shortsword. Go down the stairs in this room to find a door leading outside. Exit. Head directly forwards and down the steps into the courtyard.

Monastery Walls

Leave the Courtyard via the way we entered it near the beginning of the game, where we first met Yetka. Save/level if you wish, and then head up the stairs to the tower. Go down the stairs inside the building and kill the enemy here. Go down further again to where we killed the first giant spider to find the one-armed monk, doing some pretty weird experiments by the looks of it...

Speak to him and ask about your potions, and then ask how you can help. Ask him how many he needs and then agree to it. Leave the conversation, and then speak to him again. This will increase the power of your health potions and unlock:

1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissable

Open the door that’s right next to the bottom of the stairs and descend. Kill the enemy here, and open the door at the end of the walkway.

Catacombs

Bet you’re glad to be back here...

Head down the stairs and through the door to your left. Kill both of the enemies inside, head down the stairs that turn around, and go underneath where you’re standing. At the red crystal, use all remaining Spell Point Shards, and unlock the first level of each spell so they all appear as 1/3. This will unlock:

1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerLevel

Continue past the red crystal, kill the shielded enemy, kill the spider, and enter the Champion’s arena again.

Head directly across the arena, and enter the room that’s now open. Here you’ll find Audio Note 44/60: More than Human, Audio Note 45/60: Vicious Poison, and Audio Note 46/60: I Swear to Him. There’s also a chest containing a Ghost Merge Shard, an Empty Bottle, and the Persistence helmet. This will complete Armour Set 16/20: Persistence.

Walk out of this room, and head into the door on the right. Follow the tunnel around, and you’ll get to the hole in the floor with the planks across it. Enter the door on the right here, and head down the stairs inside, killing the enemies as you go. Take the door immediately to your right at the bottom of the stairs, and head upwards. Kill the enemies on your way and you’ll be back at the entrance to the catacombs.

Head down the path opposite the red crystal, and take the right just before the circular room. Take the first left to find a portal to Proving Ground 2/4. Head inside and defeat the waves of enemies to receive a chest containing the Life Leech ring and a Spell Point Shard. Exit the portal, and head back up the stairs to the red crystal.

Save/level if you wish then head out into the graveyard.

Monastery Exterior Walls

Clear the graveyard of enemies, and look around the edges for an unburied coffin – you’ll find it to the left of a large tree, between two shrines. Before inspecting the coffin, make sure you have the Heirloom hammer equipped as you’re going to need magic damage. Inspect the coffin, and bury the cursed sword inside.

A ghost will spawn, which you need to kill. It’s basically a weaker mage, so it shouldn’t be a problem. Once you’ve killed it, you’ll unlock:

I feel lucky

Purified the sword of the unlucky grave robber

I feel lucky
1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissable

Then inspect the coffin to receive Special Weapon 9/12: the shortsword Curse.

With that done, leave the graveyard through the archway. Look to the right of the door to the Rhogar Realm to find an open portal. Go inside for Infinite Void 2/3.

There are a lot of poison plates on the floor here so be very careful where you stand – or you can equip the Persistence or Cold Blood armour sets for maximum poison resistance, meaning you can pretty much run over all of the plates without too much trouble.

Follow the light, killing the enemies as you go, until you reach a chest. Open it for a Poison Resistance Shard. Behind the chest, off in the darkness, is an urn holding another light (it’s incredibly hard to see, but swing your weapon into the darkness and you’ll very likely hit it). Break it, and follow the light to another chest.

Open it for another light that will stay above your head, and you’ll be attacked by a First Warden enemy. Kill it, and stand facing the chest. Look to your right to see a lit area. Head back here to find the portal, but do not leave yet.

Stand directly in front of the portal, and walk forwards to find the first poison plate on the floor ahead of you. Stand to the right side of the plate, and angle yourself diagonally left, so that you’re almost heading back in the direction of the first chest. Keep walking forward, and you’ll soon be attacked by three more enemies – there is a third chest here containing an Attribute Point Shard, a Spell Point Shard, and the stave Ishaluk.

Once you have these, turn around and head back through the portal. Enter the Rhogar Realm once more.

Rhogar Realm

Head forwards for a cutscene. The first thing you’ll see is an immortal enemy on the bridge. His decorative urn is behind him, so run past him and smash it for Tyrant Heart 5/9, then kill him. He will drop the Small Western Antechamber Key, so make sure to pick it up.

On the other side of the bridge, half way up the stairs, you’ll find a mage. Kill it quickly, and continue for a cutscene (use the anvil beforehand if you wish to do some crafting – you should have some new Big Runes by now).

After the conversation, head up to the red crystal to save/level, but do not proceed to the boss fight. We’re going to follow Yetka instead. Go back down the stairs a little, and enter the doorway closest to the red crystal. Head around the left side of the tower to find two deserters. Speak to them, and tell them to get out to receive a Human Tattoo and the Amulet of the Betrayer. Look near the fire on the floor for another Human Tattoo. You now have enough to head back to the Citadel and tell the Captain.

Leave the Rhogar Realm.

NOTE: If you own the Ancient Labyrinth DLC and have been following this guide you should be at a high enough level to take it on, to do so speak to the Blacksmith after the DLC has been installed and after some dialogue you will have an option to be taken to another realm, choose this to begin.

Monastery Exterior Walls

Turn left as you exit the portal, and head all the way up the hill, killing the enemies as you go. When you get to the Citadel, enter via the main doors in the courtyard.

Citadel

Head up the stairs and along the corridor. Enter the last room on the left, roll under the portcullis, and open the chest to receive The Cocoon shield. This is one of the better shields in the game, so it's definitely worth equipping.

Exit this room, and continue along the corridor and up the stairs. Continue all the way up the stairs – you can find the Captain at the top on the left. Talk to him, and hand over the tattoos to receive The Great Burden ring. Continue onwards to the spiral staircase at the end of the corridor. Take a right halfway up the stairs, and follow the path all the way around the Planetarium until you get to Antanas and Kaslo. Speak to Antanas, and then speak to him again. Tell him you’ve found something, and give it to him for a cutscene, some hints, and a big bunch of XP.

Head down to the bottom of these stairs to find a door – there’s a fire next to it, and there are dead bodies all over the floor. Exit through the door, and prepare for a bit of fighting.

Monastery Exterior Walls

There are two large shielded enemies out here. Take them out, and, before heading onwards, turn around to face the door you just came out of. Look to your left to see a stone wall with a torch burning on it. Smash through the wall to find Secret Room 14/15. Inside is a Blind hammer.

Continue onwards killing the enemies, and keep an eye on your right to find a rune chest. Open it to receive the Guardman greataxe and an Empty Bottle. Continue on, and save/level at the red crystal. Take the archway to your left, and follow the path all the way back down to the Rhogar Realm.

Rhogar Realm

Head across the bridge, and kill the mage as you go up the stairs. Take the door to the left of the stairs at the top (save/level first if you wish). Head down the stairs in the tower, and immediately turn around. Walk behind the stairs as you can now open this gate. Inside, you’ll find Audio Note 47/60: Shards. There’s also a chest containing the polesword Burden, plus the Eternal Legend boots and gloves.

Head out into the centre of the room, and kill the enemies. Follow the edge of the room to find the door linking to the other Tower. Kill the enemies on your way through. There will be a mage in the other Tower. Kill it, and pick up the Western Antechamber Chest Key. You’ll probably be ambushed now, so kill the enemy, and return back to the connecting chamber between the towers. You can now use your new key to open the chest to receive the Faith boots and gloves.

Head back into the first tower, take the first stairs on your right to go to the upper level, and kill the archer up here. Turn around, and follow the path around to the gate leading into the corridor where you fought the mage on your first visit. Kill the shielded enemy in the passage. You can also kill the mage if you like, but do not head outside. Instead, head up the staircase at the start of this room.

Kill the enemies up here, and head towards the arena wall. Attack the dog here, and it’ll run away. Follow the arena wall around until you get to the burning statue with the inscription on it. Go down the path next to the statue. Kill the enemy at the bottom of the path (make sure you save at the red crystal here), then continue along the path to the left. Kill the dog enemy here (it ran away from you earlier), and then kill the enemies that ambush you. The crossbow enemy will drop the Keep ring.

Keep following the path around, killing the enemies as you go, and drop down to the bottom of the stairs (there was an immortal enemy here on your first visit). Head up the stairs, and take the left to the cliff edge. Here, you’ll find the Crippled Rhogar. Speak to him, and give him the skulls. He will now double cross you. Two large shielded enemies and a mage will spawn behind you – kill them, but make sure to not kill the Crippled Rhogar until all three of them are dead.

Once he’s alone, kill the Crippled Rhogar to receive a large amount of XP, the Leech ring, and Special Weapon 10/12: the Stance shield. This is an exceptionally good shield for all damage types save lightning, so equip it.

Now head all the way back to the walls overlooking the arena. Kill the two shielded enemies here, but do not go down the stairs into the arena. Instead, head past the area where you found the deserters on your first visit, and enter the large doorway.

Kill the archer in here, and then head down the stairs. You’ll see a door with a magic rune on it to your right. Go down the stairs to your left, and enter the arena. You’ll find Yetka near a magic rune blocking your path. Speak to her, and then shoot the rune with your gauntlet. Pull the lever inside to open the door. Equip the Heirloom hammer here as we’re going to need magical damage.

Head down the path, and kill the mage. Open the chest to receive the Effect chest armour. Go in through the door, and kill the ghost that comes down the stairs on your right. Head past the stairs, and kill the enemy around the corner. Open the chest to receive the sword Justice. Continue around the tower for a cutscene.

Continue into the next room, and look behind the stairs for a ghost. Kill it and head up the stairs. Look behind you to see another ghost. Kill this, and it’ll drop the Blacksmith’ [sic] Chest Key. Take note of the burning statue in here. There’s also a red crystal just around the corner if you need it.

Head back around, and go past the stairs to find a shielded enemy. Kill it, and continue on to find a chest containing the polesword Artifact and the Effect gloves. Just around the corner here is Audio Note 48/60: Runes. Open the gate here for a shortcut.

Turn around, head back to the previous staircase, and head further up. Kill the enemy up here (it’ll look awfully familiar...), and open the chest to complete Armour Set 17/20: Effect. Pull the lever on the pillar up here, and then head back to Yetka (note the ancient writings on the wall at the bottom of the stairs on your way back). Shoot the rune on the door with your gauntlet, and head through.

Chamber of Lies

Note: In this area you will encounter small, flaming enemies that roll at you and explode - make sure to kill one without it exploding for progress towards the Killing Monsters achievement.

Head up the stairs to find a couple of enemies, including an immortal. The decorative urn is in the far corner. Destroy it to get Tyrant Heart 6/9, and then kill the enemies. There is a lever next to the decorative urn - take note of this as you’ll need it later on. You can now access the red crystal to level and save. Check behind the stairs to find a locked portal and a Void Shield.

Hug the left wall, and you can see a ledge to jump to. Be careful, when you make the jump you’ll be attacked by an enemy from the ledge and will also be within range of some mage enemies. Quickly open the chest here to collect the fist weapon, Claws, then jump back over to the red crystal.

Head up the stairs, and kill the fire enemy up there. Open the door, and kill the mage inside. Open the chest to receive the Demon Assassin gloves and the Reminder axe. Head back towards the magic rune blocking the way, and look on your left for Audio Note 49/60: God’s Plan, then shoot the rune with your gauntlet. Go through, and kill the ghost on the other side. Open the chest to receive the dagger Glow.

Carry on through the doorway to find an anvil. Use it if you wish. Head around the corner, and kill the enemy (note the ancient writing on the wall). Continue through the door, pull the lever, then shoot the blocking rune with your gauntlet. Head through the door.

Rhogar Realm

Head up the stairs to the left, and kill the archer. You’re now back on the walls around the arena. Kill the enemies up here, and then head down the stairs into the arena itself. It’s now time to take on the boss.

The Guardian

This guy is probably the toughest boss in the game. He’s incredibly fast, and hits like a truck – and leaves very few openings. However, there are two windows you can possibly get some damage in if you time it right. The first is during an attack where he kneels down and raises his sword in the air – assuming you’re close enough, you have just enough time to hit him with a running attack before you have to dodge the fireballs that shoot at you from the torches around the arena.

Speaking of the torches, do not shield bash these – you need to finish the fight without knocking any of them over in order to meet the requirements for the special weapon.

His second exploitable attack is when you’re really close. He’ll place both swords into the ground and do a little kick at you – sometimes following it up with two massive swings of his swords. If you time this right, you can roll behind him and get a hit or two in – it’s best used for getting some distance.

His third exploitable attack is very risky as it will do serious, likely fatal damage, if it hits. He crouches, and then rushes towards you on a trail for fire, following it up with a huge sword combo – if you roll to the left just before he gets to you, you can get in one lunging heavy before backing off again.

Other than that, he just tears around the arena at high speed (you can use the fires as cover to block him if you position it correctly) and has both a two and four hit melee attack. The two hit attack is likely to kill you. The four hit is basically guaranteed to. Don’t get hit.

Your best loadout for this fight is the Effect medium armour, which has the highest mix of fire resistance and armour, and the Stance shield which blocks the most fire damage. This is in case you can’t dodge the fire attacks, and it’ll keep you alive that little bit longer.

When you need to heal, position yourself so that there’s a fire between you and the boss.

Your best bet is to kite around the edges, circling him until he drops to his knees – run in for one heavy slam, and then roll away to dodge his follow-up and the fire attacks. Keep doing this, and you’ll eventually take him out. If you have the Effect armour on, you’ll be able to take a lot more fire hits than without it.

Once he’s dead, you’ll receive a Sealed Rune (Big) and Special Weapon 11/12: the Firewalker shortsword. You’ll also unlock:

Once he’s dead, check the doors around the side of the arena to find the portal. Head inside for Infinite Void 3/3.

Head towards the firelight in front of you, and kill the numerous enemies on the way there. Right next to the fire will be a glowing rune on the floor. Head to this, and then continue out into the darkness – you’ll find more glowing runes (and more enemies) along the way.

After a couple of runes, you’ll reach some chests. Open them, but they’ll be empty.

More enemies will spawn, including one of the fire mini-beasts. Kill them all, and then head back to the fire, where you’ll face two shielded enemies and an immortal. Kill the two shielded enemies and then the immortal – he won’t die, but you can follow his health stream to the decorative urn. Destroy it, grab the heart, and kill him.

Once he’s dead, there’ll be a chest next to the fire containing the Fly hammer and a Magic Energy Shard. Turn to the left, and you’ll see another rune on the floor in the distance. Follow this rune trail (with the shield up) until you’re attacked by a mage.

Run towards the mage, and you’ll be surrounded by a ring of fire – if you touch the fire, you’ll die. Kill the mage and the other enemies who attack. Once they’re dead, there’ll be another chest containing the Tribute sword and an Attribute Point Shard. Follow the light back to the portal and exit. Once you’re outside, you’ll unlock:

Go back out into the arena. Head back through the main door of the arena to save and level, and then come back out to the arena and find the door on the other side blocked by a rune. Shoot it with your gauntlet, and head inside. Open the chest to complete Armour Set 18/20: Faith.

Head through the door at the end of the corridor.

Chamber of Lies

In this room are an immortal enemy and a mage. Directly to the right of the door you came through, you can find a chest containing the Fiery Witholder shield and the greatsword Last Will. You can see the mage behind you as you open the chest, so sneak forward and kill it – and hope the immortal doesn’t hear you.

Head to the left of the door you came through to find Yetka, but ignore her for now. Head through the door to her right, and kill the First Warden enemy inside. In this room, you’ll find a red crystal and a decorative urn holding Tyrant Heart 7/9. Collect it, then head up the stairs for a chest containing the Eternal Legend helmet. Save/level, and then take out the immortal in the previous room (note the burning statue on one side of the room).

Speak with Yetka to receive the Stone of Divine Understanding. You should also receive Audio Note 50/60: Ultimate Sin, Audio Note 51/60: Prayers, Audio Note 52/60: Fire in the Sky, Audio Note 53/60: God’s Wrath, and Audio Note 54/60: Prepare to Die. Now read the ancient writings on the wall next to her to receive Audio Note 55/60: The Triumph.

Head down the other end of the room to find a passage leading downwards. There are a lot of enemies out here so walk slowly and bait them one at a time. Two of them are mages, one of which can be found in the archway to the right of the door. Head to the left of the door for Audio Note 56/60: Their Image (note the locked gate here, this is what the lever we found earlier opens).

Head through the arch that the mage came out of, and go up the stairs in here. This next room is full of small and large spiders, so kill them all. Be very careful of the holes in the floor, though if you’re lucky, the spiders will chuck themselves down them. In the corner of this room is a locked gate – we’ll be picking up the key for this soon.

Take the first door on the right and open the rune door for Secret Room 15/15.

This will unlock:

Inside, you’ll find a chest containing a Weapon Hilt and the Spine Slasher sword. Unblock the next door for a shortcut back to the first room.

Go back to the spider room, and leave through the other door. There’ll be an absolute load of spiders in this room as well. Once they’re dead, you can use the anvil in the corner if you wish. Continue into the next room, and head up the stairs.

At the top, you’ll find a mage and a crossbow enemy. Kill them both, and look on the floor (you can just about see the particle effect glowing through the floor) for Audio Note 57/60: You are Safe. Head forwards, and look to the left. Jump across the gap, and kill the crossbow enemy. He’ll drop the Right Wing Key. Jump back over the gap, and head down to the locked gate in the spider room. Open it and the chest inside to receive the greataxe Crusher and to complete Armour Set 19/20: Eternal Legend.

Head back up to where you just were, but don’t jump over the gap. Instead, head into the next room where you’ll find an immortal and a ghost. The decorative urn is near to the ghost, so run in, and grab it quickly for Tyrant Heart 8/9. Now quickly kill the ghost and immortal as they can be a seriously dangerous pair. Head back to the entrance of this room to find the Tor greathammer on the floor – this hammer looks amazing, but it’s slow and can only be wielded with two hands.

Pull the lever on the wall at the end of this room to trigger another cutscene. A ghost will spawn, so kill it quickly. Don’t follow Yetka as we have a more interesting way to get to her. Firstly, pulling the lever lowered a bridge to the right of you. Take this bridge across, and turn left to find ancient writing on the wall. Read it to receive Audio Note 58/60: Prepare to Live.

Head back out of the room and back into the previous one. Go back further again to the area with gap in the middle, and use the ledges to jump across the gap. Enter the door at the end. Run past the immortal to find his decorative urn on the floor very nearby. Smash it, grab Tyrant Heart 9/9, and kill him. This will unlock:

Continue on, and you’ll see a large shielded enemy ahead of you. Walk slowly forward as another large shielded enemy will come out the entrance to the left. Kill them both.

Head up the stairs in that entrance, and kill the ghost and mage at the top. Follow the corridor all the way around to find a chest containing the Demon Assassin chest piece. Backtrack a little to find a rune door, and open it for a shortcut back to the start of this area. Head down the stairs and save/level. Head out into the main room, and you’ll find a burning statue on one side of the room. Equip the Tor greathammer, and smash it to receive the Last Traitor gloves.

Now it’s time to backtrack to where the two large shielded enemies were. Once you’re back there, go around the corner, and unlock the door to find a path to the very first part of the Chamber of Lies. You have now linked both areas together. Now it’s time for another secret room, which is a bit of a trek...

Jump across the gap, and head forwards. If the mage is here you need to be very careful as it’s very dangerous in these confines. Smash the burning statue in the next room for the Last Traitor chest armour.

Head down the stairs to find the lever – the one from ages ago by the decorative urn, if you can remember. If not, search along the edge on the right to find it.

Pull the lever, and head back up the stairs, past where the mage was, across the gap, and through the door at the end. Follow the corridor all the way around, ignoring the entrance halfway along, and go around the corner at the end. Instead of jumping across the gap here, roll down into the spider room below, and then follow the path back to the first room of this area, where the ancient writings are on the wall.

Take the door that leads outside (not the door that leaves the area), and turn left. Go around the fire pot, and into the door on the other side to find Secret Room 16. Inside here, there’ll be a large gap with an enemy on the other side. Try and bait it into falling off the edge, or it’ll very likely knock you down when you try to jump over. If you can’t bait it, kill it with your gauntlet. Once it’s gone, jump across the gap to find a chest containing a Magic Resistance Shard, a Lightning Resistance Shard, an Energy shard, and a Staff’s Head.

Backtrack out of the secret area, and you’ll see a door with a rune blocking it. Use your gauntlet to remove the blocking rune, and head inside. There’s an enemy waiting just around the corner, so proceed carefully. After killing it, head down the stairs to kill the ghost. At the bottom of the stairs, pull the lever on the right in front of the giant for a cutscene.

During the conversation with Yetka, choose to kill the monster - this is required for an achievement later on. We'll be saving this monster in a different playthrough for another achievement.

Head back up the stairs and out into the next room. Turn left, and go through the archway where the mage was hiding. Take the stairs all the way up, through the spider room, and further up again. Head through the room, and jump across the gap to the other side. Equip the Staff’s Head weapon, and approach the locked gate. The gate will open, revealing a chest inside. Open it for the Unity staff. A ghost will spawn outside, so kill it.

Now head all the way back down and to the very first room of this area. Go through the door by the ancient writings, and save/level at the red crystal. Head up the stairs here, and turn left at the top. Follow the corridor around, and take the next left as well. Keep going, jumping over the gap in the path, and head through the door where you fought mage.

Continue through the room, and head out to where the burning statue used to be. Just to the right of that, you’ll find a staircase going upwards. Firstly, head down the stairs to save/level, then go back up to this staircase and ascend.

As you exit the stairs, you’ll be attacked from both sides. Just keep your shield up, and it’ll be enough. Ahead of you, you’ll find Audio Note 59/60: Lost Memories. Ahead of you, you’ll see a kneeling enemy. This is a boss. Equip your Heirloom hammer and the Effect armour set. It’s time to face the Annihilator.

The Annihilator

The reason we’re equipping the Heirloom here is that we need to kill the Annihilator using a lightning weapon in order to meet the special weapon requirements.

His first attack, and the one we intend to exploit, is his hammer throw. Dodge the hammer as he throws it, then run in close and get a couple of double-handed shots in. As soon as the hammer returns, back away from him.

He’s likely to follow this up with regular attacks, so keep backing away and circling, waiting for a chance to strike. He has two very worrying attacks. The first is a close-range move where he drags his hammer around him in a circle and hits with huge force – do not get hit by this. His second worrying attack is a ranged lunge, where he quickly jumps towards you and slams the floor. You need to be dodging as soon as he’s in the air here to get away in time.

Basically, keep circling him at a distance until he chucks his hammer. Run in, do some damagem and then repeat.

Once he’s down to half health, he’ll start moving his hand around the head of his hammer. This means he’s about to release a massive flash of light, which is a stun attack. To avoid this, turn around so you’re facing away from him. He follows this up by a long lightning attack, which he slowly sweeps along the floor. This is pretty easy to avoid if you didn’t get stunned - just run ahead of it until it stops. Otherwise, just start rolling like hell and hope for the best.

If you’re finding the Heirloom isn’t doing enough damage, change back to My Axe, and take the Annihilator down to his last health bar before switching to the Heirloom.

Once he’s dead, he’ll drop a Sealed Rune (Big) and Special Weapon 12/12: the hammer Lightning. This will unlock:

If you want, you can now backtrack to the other wall writings for more audio notes or burning statues to complete the armour set. There’s no need to do so for the achievements, so I won’t be guiding you back to them.

If you just want to get on with it, head back through the door in the Chamber of Lies. Head all the way back up the stairs here and through the Annihilator’s arena. Enter the red swirly thing on the other side.

There’s no turning back now.

Citadel

Directly behind you is a chest. Open it for a Spell Point Shard and a Poison Resistance Shard. To your right is a portal. Head through to enter Proving Ground 3/4. Step on the plate in the centre of the arena to initiate each stage. The chest at the end will contain the Ceremonial greataxe, a Spell Point Shard, and an Attribute Point Shard. We finally have something substantially better than My Axe. Don’t equip it yet, though, the runes on My Axe are still important. Wait until you can transfer them to the new weapon before equipping it.

Save, level up, and exit the portal.

Open the gate ahead of you, and enter the arena. It’s time for one more boss...

The Lost Brothers

The Lost Brothers, as you might expect from the name, are two separate enemies. One deals lightning damage, the other fire. You start off facing both of them, but soon they take it in turns to fight you, and it gets a little easier. The brother you kill last determines the element of the shield you receive at the end, but this is not a special weapon. You’ll either get a fire resistant shield or a lightning resistant shield.

Both brothers have the usual melee attacks, but their other attacks are slightly different. The Lightning Brother’s attacks are pretty straight forward. First, he hits the ground, generating lightning, and then throws a lightning orb at you. It’s pretty easy to dodge. He also has a ground slam, which, again, is easy to dodge.

The Fire Brother has your typical fire breathing attack, which sweeps ahead of him – this is the ideal time to attack him. Roll to his left to avoid the flames, and then get a few hits in. He also has a flip attack where he launches himself forwards and slams the floor.

When they are both on the floor, just keep your distance, and avoid their attacks. Eventually, one will jump to the ceiling. It’s now time to close in on the Brother on the floor and damage him as much as you can.

Soon, the other Brother will drop to the floor, and you’ll get a massive slam attack, so make sure to not wander underneath him at any point during the fight. Both will again be on the floor, so keep your distance until one jumps back to the ceiling.

This will repeat until you’ve killed both of them. The Fallen armour set you recently received has got very good elemental defences all around but, if that’s too heavy, stick with the Effect armour set.

The ideal strategy here is to concentrate mainly on the Fire Brother, for one good reason – once he’s dead, the Lightning Brother will gain his fire breathing attack. This gives you a much better window to attack the Lightning Brother than he previously had.

Once they’re both dead, you’ll receive a Sealed Rune (Big) and the Defender shield. You’ll also unlock:

1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMain Storyline

Now that they’re dead, head down the stairs in the corner of the room to save/level. Head back into the room above, and use the anvil in the corner. Talk to the Blacksmith, and place Adyr's Rune in either your weapon or armour/shield or nothing at all, each choice gives a different ending as well as a different achievement. Take the runes off My Axe. Put the Rune of Adyr and (hopefully) your Poison Rune on to the Ceremonial greataxe. Equip your newly runed items and let’s get going.

NOTE: If you have played through the Ancient Labyrinth DLC and defeated The Keeper you will own a special weapon dropped by it depending on the school of magic you had Keeper use. To unlock the final DLC achievement you must defeat Judge the final boss using this weapon although it has no rune slots so you must choose to use Adyr's Rune elsewhere for alternate ending achievements.

Walk to the left of the anvil, and head up the stairs. From now on, you’re facing human enemies. Kill the two at the top of the stairs. There’s another Audio Note in the corner. Go up the stairs here, and kill the enemy at the top. Enter the portal here for Proving Ground 4/4. This is a tough one – remember to switch to your Heirloom for the ghosts. Be particularly wary of the mages as they tend to use their reflect damage spell a lot here. Once you’ve defeated all of the waves, you’ll receive the Lords armour set and the Stare hammer.

The Lords armour is pretty much the best heavy armour in the game. Leave the portal to unlock:

Now it’s time to backtrack to the anvil to rune up your new armour set. Add fire resistance to your armour where you can, though if you have a Luck rune, add it to one of your armour pieces if your new armour has slowed down your dodge speed – it should give you enough extra carry weight to be able to roll around properly again.

Head back up the stairs to the portal, and continue past it into the main hall. Kill the archer, and head down to the end of the hall, killing as you go. Go up the stairs, and you’ll meet the Captain, who will attack you. As you might expect, he’s pretty tough. Kill him for an audio note and the Southern Trench key.

Backtrack down the hall to the main doors of the Citadel. Pick up the audio note and exit.

Monastery Walls

Head left, and follow the building around, past the fountain, until you get to the red crystal. Head through the archway to the right of the crystal, and take the first door on your right to enter the Southern Trench.

Kill the enemies down here to find an audio note and a chest containing the Rhogar polesword. Continue through the archway to enter the old gardens. Kill everything in here, and open the rune chest for the Impatience shortsword. Continue around to the end of the garden for another chest. This one contains the Eagle’s Wings shield.

Head back to the stairs, but run down the short path next to the stairs, and break through the wall. Talk to the spirit in here, and then “hit” it with a non-magic weapon to convince it that it’s dead. This’ll open the chest so you can receive the New Dawn ring.

Now it’s time to head back to the Citadel and finish this.

Citadel

Enter through the rear door (the one down the path by the red crystal), and head up the stairs. Kill everyone at the top – one of which should drop the Planetarium Chest Key, and enter the room with the spiral staircase. Pick up the audio note next to the unfortunately dead as hell Kaslo, ascend the stairs, and head through the door half way up.

Fight your way through the Planetarium until you get to the small classroom with the locked chest. You can now open this to receive the Guard’s Sword. Go back to the spiral staircase, and continue to the top. Save at the red crystal, and then prepare for battle. Use the lift at the top of the stairs.

The Judge

The Judge has, as you can imagine for a final boss, a load of dangerous attacks.

His first is a charge attack with a jumping slam at the end. The best way to avoid this is to run sideways and jump at the same time as him – you should avoid the huge shockwave this way. He also throws spikes at you, but a quick dodge should get out the way of those. He also has the usual melee combinations when you’re close.

The combo you’re looking out for is two swings followed by a ground slam. When this happens, hit him with a quick slam, and then roll back out the way if you can. After a while, he’ll jump away and start summoning regular enemies to attack. While this is happening, he’s also throwing lines of fire along the ground at you. To get his special weapon, you need to kill all of these enemies yourself. If the Judge kills any of them, you won’t get the weapon.

After a while, he’ll start trying to leech life from the enemies, though hopefully they’re already dead. If he kills them by leeching their life away, this also negates the special weapon drop.

From now on, when you get close, he’ll attempt to hit you with a red spell from underneath (you can see him start to cast it so immediately run away) – this screws up your health quite badly, and for the entire rest of the fight. Avoid it at all costs.

So basically, hit him when you can and eventually he’ll drop. Personally, I don’t see much point in going for his special weapon unless you intend on playing through NG+ (we’ll be doing it a little, but it really won’t be for long).

Once he dies, depending on how you used Adyr's Rune you will unlock one of the following:

After the credits have finished rolling, it’s time to do a little NG+ before going after the remaining class and ending achievements. From the main menu, continue your save. You should start with a huge amount of XP, make sure you have at least 20,000 unspent experience (you’ll likely have more than 30,000).

The enemies in this will be a lot stronger, and a lot of them will now inflict poison or fire attacks. Kill the enemy in front of you, and go up the stairs to Kaslo. Talk to him, and ask about opening the door – you’ll receive your full potion complement now.

Go down the stairs and into the sideroom. Head through the rooms here, killing the enemies, and down the stairs to pick up the Giant Key. Head back to Kaslo, and equip the Persistence greatsword. Go through the door, and kill the First Warden. He’s a little tougher, but his attacks are the same.

All we have left now is two more playthroughs.

For the remaining completion achievements, it's only the Magic Type that you need to change. You can still choose the Warrior Armour set at the start, since that won't affect the achievements. Please note, if you select the Cleric or Rogue Armour sets, some of the armour set locations will change in the game (you'll still find armour in the same places, but they might be part of a different set). Most notably, the armour set you receive while talking to Adyr will be different, but it'll still be one of the best armours for your chosen class.

Playthrough Two

Your second playthrough will be very similar to the first. Here are the main differences:

  • When selecting your character, make sure to pick the Deception Magic Type
  • You don’t need to put any XP into Faith, unless you want to play a Faith build
  • When it comes to Yetka and the giant Monster, this time you need to let it live
  • When talking to the Blacksmith at the end use the Rune of Adyr differently to your previous playthrough

During the conversation with Yetka, agree to spare the monster – do not kill it. This will unlock:

Pull the lever to reveal a door, and head inside. There will be a ghost to your left. Kill it, and pick up the Audio Note 1/8: “The Little Things” from nearby. Now turn around, and head down the other path to find a chest guarded by a skeleton. Kill it, and open the chest to receive a Poison Resistance Shard and a Magic Resistance Shard.

Continue down the path where the ghost was, and kill the skeleton around the corner. The door ahead is locked, so backtrack out of the room, and pull the lever a second time, then a third time. When you go through the door this time, there’ll be a ghost to your right and a skeleton to your left. Take out the ghost quickly. The door behind him cannot be opened from this side.

Now wait for the skeleton to come close, and attract his attention. Don’t go too far forward as there’s a skeleton archer waiting around the corner. Now head forward, and kill the archer. Next to him will be Audio Note 2/8: “Consecrated”.

Continue down the path, and a skeleton will appear before you. Kill it and carry on. As you approach the lever at the end, another skeleton will appear. Kill it, and pull the lever to open the path to the right.

There is a skeleton to the left as soon as you enter. Kill it, and head to your right to find a ghost next to a pressure plate. Kill it, and stand on the pressure plate. Another skeleton may attack from behind now, so be careful. Kill it if it does. Be careful if you die, because any time you come back here, this skeleton will be waiting for you just ahead of the ghost.

Follow the path, and you’ll reach another doorway. There is a ghost to your left inside, so kill it. There is another pressure plate here, so stand on that as well. Before going further, trace your steps back to the first ring and to the door that couldn’t be opened from this side. This will now be open. Inside is a coffin. Open it for Coffin 1/4 and to receive the Consecrated helmet – a seriously elemental-resistant piece of kit.

Now go back to the second pressure plate. Further down the path here will be two skeletons, so kill them. Between them will be Audio Note 3/8: “Initiation”. Continue down the path and through the doorway for a red crystal and Audio Note 4/8: “First Anxieties”.

There's a ghost, as well as a skeleton at the end of this path, so bait the ghost and kill it before killing the skeleton. At the end of this path, you’ll find a Sealed Rune (small).

This path is a dead end for now, so it’s time to backtrack to the previous lever. Another skeleton may spawn on the way back. Pull the lever once. There is nothing on either side of the door for now, so head through.

First, head left to find a Magic Energy Shard, then head right to find a new lever. Pull it twice, and get ready for an attack from behind by two skeletons. Don’t let them corner you, and kill them off. Once they’re dead, head through the doorway.

There is a large and very tough enemy to your right here, so be careful and kill it – if you see it vanish, immediately start dodging as there’s a huge hit incoming. Right by where you entered, you’ll also find Audio Note 5/8: “Law of the Jungle”.

Further down this passage, there’ll be a ghost and a skeleton archer. Bait out one of them at a time and kill them. At the end, you’ll find a Magic Energy Shard and another door that opens from the other side.

Backtrack to the previous lever, and pull it again. Another two skeletons should spawn behind you. Kill them, and you should get the Ancient Labyrinth Chest Key. If you don’t, it’s likely to drop at some point from another skeleton.

Go back through to the previous ring, and pull the lever just inside. There is a skeleton directly to the right of the door and one of the large enemies to the left. Try and bait the big guy back through the door and kill it, before taking care of the skeleton.

Continue on, and a ghost should attack you through a doorway further down. Kill it, but don’t enter yet. Continue down to the end of this path first. By another lever will be Audio Note 6/8: “Humanity’s Advocate”. At the end of the path is a rune door – you should have more than enough runes to open it.

Inside is Coffin 2/4 which contains the Consecrated wrist armour. Again, this has exceptional elemental resistance. Now go through the doorway next to the lever, and kill the big guy inside. Just inside the door is Audio Note 7/8: “Grim Legacy”. To your right is another door that only opens from the other side. To your left is a regular door, so open it, then go back to the previous ring.

Pull the nearby lever twice, and go back through – memorize the pattern shown on the wall around the lever as this is how you open the way to the final boss. To your right is a red crystal. Further along the corridor is a Sealed Rune (small). We don’t want to continue yet, since the Labyrinth boss is just around the corner. Instead, go back to the previous ring, then to the ring before that. There’ll be a lever as soon as you enter this ring – pull it three times.

Head back through the door, and take a right. Head through the next doorway, and follow the path to the end. The doorway to the right will now be open. Inside will be a large enemy and Audio Note 8/8: “Dead End”. This will unlock:

Head right, and kill the two skeletons here. Note the sealed door with the rune on it. Exit through the door at the end of the corridor, and turn left to find a chest containing a Spell Point Shard. A skeleton should now spawn behind you. Kill it, and head down to the end of the corridor. Ahead of you will be a ghost, but there is also a skeleton around the corner. Bait the ghost to kill it, then kill the skeleton.

At the end of the path is a pressure pad. Leave a Prayer spell on the pressure pad, then run back to the sealed door in the previous passage. This room will contain the Strange Key. Leave this room, and follow the wall to your left. You’ll find a lever against the wall, so pull it.

Follow this corridor, and head into the next ring. The door to your right here will now be open, allowing you access to Coffin 3/4, which contains the Consecrated leg armour. As you would expect by now, elemental resistance is through the roof...

Now, head all the way back through the passages and out of the Labyrinth. Pull the lever on the outside of the Labyrinth twice. Go inside, and head to the left to find the locked door again. You can now open this and head inside.

Here you’ll see another lever. Pull it to unlock:

Now pull it again until the upper symbol on the wall above the lever is one of fire – you must do this so we can get an achievement later on. It’s now time to take on the boss. Exit the Labyrinth again, and pull the lever here twice more.

Proceed back through the Labyrinth until you get to the lever in the first ring. Pull this once, and the Labyrinth will open the way to the boss again. Head through the rings until you get to the red crystal before the boss area, and save here.

Keeper Preamble

Before continuing, I need to mention one thing. If you are running with a Faith build, you will need to beat the Keeper once. If you running either an Agility or a Strength build, you will need to beat him once while he’s using fire, then again using a different magic school.

For the Agility build, you need to defeat him first while he’s using fire, quit the game after you’ve unlocked the two boss achievements without saving, then change his damage type to Magic and beat him a second time.

For the Strength build, you need to defeat him first while he’s using fire, quit the game after you’ve unlocked the two boss achievements without saving, then change his damage type to Lightning and beat him a second time.

The reason for this is that we need to defeat the end boss of the main game using the weapon that the Keeper drops when killed – and the weapon he drops is based on the type of damage he deals. Fire damage gives you a Great Axe that scales with Faith. Magic damage gives you a Polesword that scales with Agility. Lightning damage gives you a Sword that scales with Strength.

The Keeper

The Keeper is a reasonably simple but incredibly deadly boss, who has a number of one-hit kill moves. When you enter his arena, he’ll be in the centre surrounded by a swirling mass of books he’s using as a shield. The strength of the shield is represented by the yellow bar under his health.

The trick with this fight is to damage his shield until it only has a tiny amount left. When this happens, the Keeper will point in a direction and summon a bookcase, from which he’ll start siphoning more books to restore his shield.

As soon as he points, you need to take down the rest of his shield and immediately run and hide behind the bookcase he summoned. Failure to do this in time is instant death. Doing it correctly will remove one entire bar of the Keeper’s health. Then it’s a case of repeating it.

Note: If you're too slow to make it to the bookcase in time, you can cast prayer in between the Keeper and yourself - if you time it correctly, you should survive the blast. If you're having trouble with the timing, try wearing a lighter armour instead.

Most of his normal attacks are pretty weak, and most can be avoided by simply strafing, but there are two in particular that need mentioning. The first is when he summons bookcases behind him and throws books at you – this hurts a lot. The second only seems to appear when he’s lost half of his health, and that is, if you stay too close for too long, he’ll briefly charge up an attack which will instantly kill you. For this section, run in, get a few hits off, and roll back out before repeating.

He’ll also place a load of circling mines around himself, but these can be easily avoided and don’t hurt much even if you get hit.

Once he’s lost his third bar of health, he dispenses with his shield and attacks normally. For this, just strafe around him until he attacks, then follow it up with an attack of your own. It won’t take long until he’s dead.

Killing him while he’s set to fire will unlock:

Now, if you’re a Faith build, skip the next section, and go on to the Leaving the Labyrinth section. If you’re a Strength or Agility build, read the next section first.

Once More with Feeling

If you’re a Strength or Agility build, turn off the game now without saving. Load the game back up, and head through the Labyrinth, back to the lever that sets the Keeper’s damage type. If you’re a Strength build, set it so that the Lightning icon is highest above the lever. If you’re an Agility build, set it so that the Magic icon is highest above the lever.

With that done, go and kill the Keeper again to receive the weapon needed for the last of the DLC achievements.

Leaving the Labyrinth

With the Keeper dead, pick up his loot drop to receive your weapon (make sure it’s the correct one) and a Consecrated Grave Key. Leave the central ring, and save the game at the red crystal. Go out to the next ring, and use the lever here twice to reveal a locked door. Use your new key to enter.
