Lines The Game (WP)

Hey there, welcome to the walkthrough for: Lines the Game.

You can get 19/20 of the achievements in less than 5 hours. The last achievement, will take at least 20-25 hours to get by playing the game legitimately. However, it is possible to use a screen projector and a macro. This way a PC will do all the hard work for you.

Marathon

Cover a distance of 10000 meters.

In "Lines The Game", there are blank lines at the start of each level. The goal is to fill up the most percentage of these blank lines with your own color. If you manage to do so, you win; otherwise, you lose the level. There are predetermined dots for your opponents, you have to set a dot for your own color yourself. Once you place your dot somewhere on the blank lines, all dots will start filling up the blank lines. Once two different colors meet each other, they stop going in that direction.

I found this game overall very fun and easy to complete.
It is divided into 5 game modes. At the start you have only unlocked the first 30 levels of the first game mode. Completing 20 levels in this game mode will unlock the first 30 levels of the second game mode. Completing 20 levels in this game mode will unlock the first 30 levels of the third game mode, and so on. To unlock the last 20 levels of each game mode you have to complete a single level in that specific game mode 10 times in a row, without a loss in between. The game modes are:

Dot Mode:
You have to place your own dots. It differs per level against how many colors you have to battle, and how many dots you're able to place yourself.

Erase Mode:
Both your dots and the computer's dots are already placed. You're able to erase some or one of the dots from the computer.

Rope Mode:
Again, both your dots and the computer's dots are already placed. The difference is that you're able to draw ropes. This are basically blank spaces through which the colors can flow.

Knife Mode:
Again, both your dots and the computer's dots are already placed. In this mode however, you're able to make one or more cuts in the blank lines, thereby preventing the computer's lines to flow further in a specific direction.

Mix Mode:
In this mode, all of the previously mentioned modes are combined. The order in which you have to use them, is predetermined. A level might for example require you to place a dot first, then draw a rope and finally erase a computer's dot. This is my favorite mode, since your mind will be put to the test. You will have to analyze certain possibilities, and then choose the one that you thinks suits best.

And a note for the later levels: If you wonder what color you are, Just look at the frame of the level, that's the color belonging to you. This color changes from level to level.

Let's get started with the achievements.

Regarding the syncing issues with windows phone games: Do not earn achievements while your phone's date is "set in the future". E.g. today is June 1st, 2015 and your phone is set to the 15th of June 2015.

There's not really much to give tips about. I always try to figure out what dots of the opponents can fill up the most blank space, and I try to place my dots in between the large blank area and the opponent's dot. Also, it is important to place dots closer to vital intersections than the enemy dots( or reach them faster by making cuts, ropes). This is important because from going in just one or two directions, your line can go into 3 or 4 directions, thereby boosting your score.

So in General there's three important tips:
Isolation: try to isolate/contain enemy dots.
Intersections: reach them first if possible.
Strategic placement: place your dot on the side of the map where it can conquer something.

I've made some screenshots of some levels, and were I placed my dots. This will give you an indication of how to play the game (if you haven't already). I didn't choose to screenshot every level, because A this takes a lot of time to do B levels change so it's never a perfect guide and C you only need to beat 5 levels 10 times in a row and 1 level 9 times in a row. The other 245 levels are just beating once.

Note: My excuses for my Dutch screenshots instead of English ones, I only realized this after I uploaded them to the site already. I've added the level requirements in English.

DOT
Level 10: Place 2 dots.
You already see where I placed my first dot. I placed my second dot all the way on the left, to isolate that enemy dot.

Image 21

Image 22

Level 19: Place one dot.
I placed my dot on the intersection on the right of the black dot. This way I can conquer roughly the right hand side of the level
Image 19

Image 20

Level 43: Place one dot.
The two enemy dots are close to one-another. I therefore place my dot close to them and this way isolate them. I placed my dot where the second "e" of the word "perspectief" is located in the first picture.
Image 17

Image 18

ERASE
Level 10: Erase two dots.
I remove the pink dot on the left, and the green dot on the top left. This way I can conquer roughly the left side of the level.
Image 13

Image 14

I remove the two dots all the way on the right. This will enable my green dot, which is located in the top right corner, to conquer the bottom right side of the map.
Image 15

Image 16

ROPE
Level 2: Draw 2 ropes.
First I want to conquer to second from top horizontal line, since there is no dot on there at all. I create an as long as possible line from my top dot to there, thus giving me extra points. Besides, I create a rope from my bottom dot to the second from bottom horizontal line, to prevent the enemy dots from conquering this entire line.
Image 9

Image 10

This is an easy set up. Just by conquering the bottom two lines you in fact already have enough(2 is more than 2 minus a little). Besides, you also have the space from the ropes you draw. I make the ropes as long as possible to create more "points".
Image 11

Image 12

KNIFE
Level 1: Knife one line.

Contain the enemy dots, by placing a knife on the left side of the left dot.
Image 7

Image 6

Again try to contain the enemy. I chose for the right side of the two dots this time, because this is the dot that is further away from my own (yellow) dot.
Image 9

Image 8

MIX
Level 10 : Point, Erase, Erase, Knife.

There's 3 dots very close to each other, and two more a bit further away. I Erase the two dots further away, and isolate the 3 remaining by making a cut on one side and placing my own dot on the other side.
Image 1

Image 2

There's 4 enemy dots on the top side of the level, one further down. I erase the one furthest down, and the one furthest on the left. I make the cut on the bottom left corner of the top right square, to prevent these two dots from flowing down immediately. I place my dot somewhere on the middle horizontal line, to at least conquer the bottom half of the level, and some of the top half (which is more than 50%). Not a perfect example, I should've placed my own dot a bit further to the right to conquer at least the entire bottom half of the level.

Daily challenges

There's two achievements related to the daily challenges:

Daytripper

Win 5 daily challenges.

Daytripper

Frequent Flyer

Win 25 daily challenges.

Frequent Flyer
1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerTime/Date

You can try a daily challenge only once. If you fail, you have to wait until next day before you can try a new challenge. A faster way to get this than coming back to the game for 25 days, is to change the date on your phone. Simply hold the back button while in the game. Go to settings(phone settings, not game settings), then go to "time and date" and change the date 1 day ahead. Then hold the back button again and go back to the game. You'll notice that you'll be able to play a new daily challenge. Repeat this 24+ times, depending on how many challenges you fail.

Note: Achievements "unlocked in the future" (e.g. today is January 1, but the date on your phone is January 2) will not sync to xbox.com. Therefore make sure the date is set to the correct date, when you unlock an achievement. Also watch out you're not about to place 250 dots, cut 250 lines, tie 250 ropes or erase 250 enemies. Remember you can have a quick look at what your progress is. The achievement for cutting 250 lines unlocked for me when I was doing the daily challenges, and my date was "set in the future". The achievement did not sync properly.

Clean up
You probably haven't unlocked the achievements for placing 250 dots, erasing 250 enemies, tying 250 ropes and cutting 250 lines by now.
Simply go to these levels to grind them. Don't pay attention to whether you will win or not. It doesn't matter.

Placing dots: Level 9 of DOT MODE, there's 5 dots you'll have to place.
Erasing enemies: Level 25 of ERASE MODE, there's 3 enemies which you can erase.
Tying ropes: Level 19 of ROPE MODE, there's 3 ropes which you have to tie.
Cutting lines: Level 8 of KNIFE MODE, there's 3 lines which you can cut.

That leaves you with just the last achievement. I suggest using a macro for that. It is a large grind if you try to go for "the normal way". (I expect 15-20 hours at least of grinding.) When using a macro, it will still take quite a while, though you can let the macro run, while you're able to do something else. If you try to go for the achievement "the normal way", I suggest to either boost it on level 41 of the DOT MODE. The level requires you to place 5 dots. Therefore, the level is over pretty fast. Besides, you can go through the entire game again for a couple of times, or try to earn gold medals on every level. This will make the grind a bit less boring. I suggest to start it once you go to work, school, sleep, etc.

This is how the macro works:
What you will need:
A windows phone with the game installed.
A laptop or desktop PC with an internet connection.
An USB cable to connect your phone to your PC.

Download "Project your screen" and "Tiny Task 1.5" :
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4253...
http://www.vtaskstudio.com/support.php

What you'll be doing is projecting your windows phone screen. Plug in the USB cable into your PC and into your phone. Open project your screen on your PC. Make sure your phone is unlocked. Accept screen projecting once your phone asks for it. Open lines the game on your phone. The Project your screen app will now show you the same screen as on your phone. Press "esc" on your keyboard to go back from full screen. Go to DOT MODE, and slide the levels until you see levels 39-43 on your screen.

Go to "Tiny task" (the 2nd link you downloaded) and select settings. In here, select continuous playback. Besides make sure the "Recording Hotkey" is set at "Print Screen" and the "Playback Hotkey" is set at " f8 ". Now go back to "Project Your Screen" and:
1. Press Print screen (to start recording)
2. Select level 41.
3. Select a couple of places for your dots, all across the level. Place at least 8, even though the level will start with 5.
4. Wait for the level to end.
5. Once you're back at the level select screen, wait a couple of seconds(2-4 should be enough) and then press Print screen again to stop recording.
6. Now press f8, and the level will be played over and over.

Extra info:
-At step 3 place a few extra dots, because where you place your dots the first time you play the level, enemy dots might show up the rounds after that.
- At step 5 wait a few seconds before you stop recording, because the time it takes for the level to finish differs from time to time.
- If you're using a laptop, make sure it is plugged in to the electrical outlet, to prevent your laptop from shutting down due to an empty battery.
- Change both your PC and phone screen brightness to the lowest to save some energy.

After your PC/laptop has covered the remaining distance you needed for the 10,000 meters, your last achievement will unlock.
