X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Overall Difficulty For Completion Of This Game: 5/10

Hello and welcome to my walkthrough for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The purpose of this walkthrough is to provide you an efficient guide into unlocking all the achievements within the game.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a movie tie-in game, based upon the movie of the same name that was released in 2009. The game has a total of 50 Achievements worth 1000G Gamerscore. All of the achievements can be earned online or offline, which means you do not need an XBox Live Connection if you want to finish the game. There haven't been been any additional updates for this game since it was released.

To get the full 1000G on this game, you are required to do 2 full playthroughs, as well as replaying multiple levels, since you will need to unlock a higher difficulty. Find all of the collectibles, upgrade your character to the highest level, max out all of the abilities, collect all of the misc achievements, and then lastly complete the game a 2nd time on the hardest difficulty.

Among all of the X-Men games released to date on the XBox 360, X-Men Origins: Wolverine will take you the most time to get all of the achievements. However it is considered by many as one of, or if not the best X-Men game you can get for the console and possibly the best movie tie-in game you can get for the console as well.

Note: This game may contain features which may be unsuitable for some audience. If you are offended with any features within this game/walkthrough; please press the back button and leave immediately. You have been warned.

Quick Plot

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a game which is based upon the movie of the same name that was released in 2009. It is strongly focused on the X-Men character Wolverine, portrayed by actor Hugh Jackman (who also provides the voice for Wolverine in this video-game as well).

Unlike many games which are released in this world today, this game has 2 stories. One based in the past in that Wolverine was part of a Mutant Group in which they were trying to complete missions based in the African Jungles. The other story happens after he was betrayed by his group and his brother, and then he finds out his girlfriend Kayla Silverfox is known to be dead. Wolverine then sets out for revenge against his brother and the group he used to work for.

The game has unique features in which it is more aimed for an adult nature, rather than children since it includes blood and gore. And in this game, you have the ability to punish your enemies to the point in which you can slice off parts of an enemies body with your claws. This includes the legs, arms, hands, torso's and even the opponents head. Wolverine has moves in which can punish the opponent in very brutal ways.

The game has been given mostly positive feedback. It has been praised for it's addition of the blood and gore, and the style of game-play that is similar towards God Of War and Devil May Cry games. But the plot has been criticized because most users have found the story confusing. The length and repeating some of the levels as well has also been criticized. However the voice acting in this game though has been given positive feedback. Particularly Hugh Jackman himself who also won an award for his performance.

To help give you an idea of how much blood and gore this game will feature, here is a cutscene which is at the start of the game. Credit goes to PlatanoGames Network...

My Hints & Tips

This game does not use your Storage Device to save it's data. It in actual fact uses your gamer-card, so it means you cannot delete your data once you have started it. You can overwrite it though.

Once you have picked up a collectible in the game, it will be stored on your account, and this means you do not have to pick up that collectible again, should you die or need to reload your save data. The Dog Tags will re-appear however if you start a brand new game on a different difficulty.

Everytime you collect a Dog Tag, you will gain additional XP which goes towards your character's level requirements. You can get additional XP for grabbing Dog Tags though if you assign different power-up's for you character.

You can use Feral Sense in the game to track down where enemies are, so that you can plan out your attacks or just jump in for the kill. Feral Sense also shows you which way you need to go in a mission, and it also shows you dead bodies that contain collectibles.

The Feral Sense also shows you if there are objects in the game which can be useful for environmental kills, or if they posses a threat. If they're coloured green, it means they can be used for an environmental kill, or an item in that can be picked up and thrown, or pushable/pull-able. If it's red it means it's a threat such as a trap, and must be avoided.

Any abilities you obtain throughout the game will be kept as long as you don't start a brand new game. If you keep on selecting "Replay Chapters", your character will be at the strongest level possible.

If you rank up a new level in the game anywhere, your health and abilities will be restored back to their full state. Use this to your advantage when playing through the campaign.

Health Boosters are scattered throughout the game. They look like a Red Gene Chromosome. Collecting these will boost the total amount of health you can have.

If you pause the game and then select "Statistics", you can check and see how much progress you have done towards some related achievements you are going for in the game. You can also use the pause menu as well to check how much the bar for each Reflex class has been built, and you can check to see how much of the Skill Points you have obtained as well.

Step 1: First Playthrough

You will have to do the game twice, since you've got to complete the game once on any difficulty in order to unlock the hardest difficulty. It is also strongly advised you collect every other achievement before you start a brand new game on the harder difficulty, since everything you have obtained will be lost when you start a new game.

You can do your first playthrough on any difficulty. I personally would choose Easy, since you can breeze through the game more faster, and you won't have all of the enemies ganging up on you so much.

This is the playthrough as well in which you'll attempt to find all of the collectibles in the game. There are 95 Dog Tags in total. If you miss a collectible, either reload your previous checkpoint or reload the level from the start and try again. Alternatively you can always located missing Dog Tags during Step 2 of the walkthrough.

I have provided a written guide for all of the collectibles in the game. A video guide is also available if you prefer to use that instead. Credit goes to RoosterTeeth for the collection.

Note: I have placed down achievements in this game in which whereabouts you can roughly collect them. There may be some achievements which you'll get before the walkthrough tells you to, or afterwards.

Step 2: Misc Achievements

OK, now that you have completed a full playthrough of the game, the next step your going to do is to collect any other misc achievements which you have missed. The most likely achievements your going to need to do more work on is getting the Reflexes and the Skill Points at the highest level. However there may be some other achievements which require you to go to one particular spot and keep on reloadingcheckpoints to get the achievement. Additionally there may be some other achievements which were described above in which you could get but missed them out. Regardless of whatever you've got, you'll need to go into the Chapter Selection in the main menu, choose Replay Chapter and select any level in which you need to get to a certain point where the achievements your going for can be easily accessible.

Here are the achievements I reckon will take you more than a playthrough to do...

For this achievement, you are required to maximize a group of Reflexes by killing a certain type of enemy. As you attack and kill them your character will become more stronger against them, and will eventually kill them in a single hit rather than a few. There are 4 types of enemies that belong to the Reflex...

Machetes

Machinegunners

Jungle Mutants

Robots

Some of the enemies will be easier to find and kill than others. Once you have reached Maximum Reflex for one of the classes, you'll get this achievement.

Samurai

This achievement however requires you to reach Maximum Reflex on all of the classes. The best way into getting this achievement is to find an area in the game where the enemies appear most often and then once their killed, reload the previous checkpoint and keep on grinding. In some cases it might be an idea to perform another playthrough so that you know where the enemies will roughly appear so that you can grind it out.

Whilst you are working on the Samurai achievement, at the same time you will also be working on the Skill Points. Everytime you reach a new level after Level 5, you will earn 2 Skill Points. You will need a total of 69 Skill Points in order to get the achievement, and this roughly requires you to be around Level 39. It will take more than just a playthrough to get this achievement. Notice the cool Wolverine Pose portrayed by Hugh Jackman himself in this achievement picture?

What I Do Best

Killed 2000 enemies

What I Do Best
3 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerCumulative +

Finally, for this step. One of the last achievements you'll likely get in this step, or if not before is for having a grand total of 2000 Kills in the game. This is across all your games and playthrough's you have done, and if you die anywhere your kills get stored, so nothing gets lost throughout the course of your game.

Step 3: Hard Playthrough

Warning: Before you start this step, you must make sure that you have all of the remaining achievements obtained in the game. This means you will need 49/50 Achievements with a total of 950G/1000G Gamerscore to continue. Starting this step earlier will result in you doing more playthrough's to finish the game completely.

This is the final step you need to do in the game. You now need to do a brand new playthrough on the Hardest Difficulty. Once you have started a New Game, anything which you have done in the previous 2 steps will be lost and reset. This includes Dog Tags, Reflexes, Skill Points and other unlocks in the game.

This playthrough will proof to be a challenge because your character will be much weaker than the enemies at the start of the game. Rather than taking one or two hits to kill a guard, it'll take a good few before you can slice them in pieces. So on most occasions, taking cover and picking off enemies will be the only way in which you can pass through the game easily.

This is not a playthrough you can rush on. You'll have to take your time and pick off enemies at the start of the game, before unleashing your claws near the end when your character should be more powerful. A handy tip is you can always backtrack by replaying earlier levels in order to raise your character to a stronger level if you get stuck. Just make sure you select replay chapter, rather than starting a new game.

You do not have to collect any Dog Tags on this playthrough, however you are recommended to grab some along your journey since they give you additional XP which can be used to boost your character. Grabbing other items such as Mutagens, Skill Points and Health Boosters will also make the game easier.

And then once you have completed the campaign on Hard Difficulty, you will unlock this achievement giving you all 50 Achievements worth 1000G Gamerscore! Congratulations! You are the Claw Master!

Conclusion

This is a game which you do not want to miss. Among all of the movie-tie in games I have played to date, I choose this one to be my favorite, because it contains features which not many other movie-tie in games actually surprise you with. This would mostly be the blood, gore and the brutal kills you can do in the game.

If you see this game in a bargain bin, I strongly recommend you pick it up! It's a game in which you'll enjoy and it won't leave you disappointed. I highly recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a movie-tie in game which is better than the movie itself, anyone who loves X-Men/Wolverine, or if your just looking for an easy 1000G game with all of the achievements offline.

I am honoured I've had the privilege to do the walkthrough for this game, and I hope this walkthrough has helped you, should you have the game or consider picking it up.

Good Luck and Have Fun fellow Wolverines!
