Hello, my name is wellingtonbalbo and I’ll be guiding you through earning all 74 achievements in this great game, inspired by the universe of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings; using the gameplay mechanics of the Batman Arkham series with some elements of Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, in an open world full of things to do and kill.

Achievement roadmap and breakdown

- Estimated difficulty: 6/10 (medium, with some difficult parts along the way, but once you dominate the nemesis system and upgrade your abilities and attributes the game will be pretty manageable).

- 73 achievements are offline/single player, and only 1 achievement requires an internet connection and is fairly easy to earn, if you have at least one friend that plays/played this game (if you don't have any friends with this game feel free to add me as a friend).

- 17 achievements are tied to story progression, and are earn just for completing the main campaign and the two DLCs campaigns.

- 5 achievements are linked to collectibles.

- 6 achievements are earned by leveling up your character and unlocking specific abilities, all of which are explained by specific achievement description, in the General hints and tips page.

- Approximate time for 1680G: 50 to 60 hours.

- Minimum number of playthroughs: 1 for main story and 2 more for each DLC, but certainly you will need to explore more after completing the campaign to earn miscellaneous achievements and collectibles left behind, besides completing all side missions, challenges and DLC missions.

- Missable achievements: 2, one from each DLC, explained in their respective pages.

- Buggy achievements: 1 (but is Buggy+, this achievement may unlock before the requirements have been met), explained in the Miscellaneous page.

To earn all achievements in this game including the two DLCs you will need:

  • Complete all 20 main story missions and gather all 74 collectibles
  • Complete all 54 side missions
  • Complete all miscellaneous achievements related to abilities gained during the progression of the story and levelling of your character
  • Complete all missions for the Lord of the Hunt DLC and the challenge for Test of the Wild, in Trials of War menu
  • Complete all missions for The Bright Lord DLC and the challenge for Test of the Ring, in Trials of War menu

On the following pages you will encounter:

General hints and tips – Introductory explanation of game mechanics, like the innovative Nemesis System, best perks for initial hours of game and more.

Story walkthrough – Detailed guide with helpful tips along the way, with each of 20 main missions explained, without spoilers.

Survival and hunting challenges – Detailed guide with tips for all challenges for hunting and collecting herbs.

Side missions – Detailed guide with tips for all 54 side missions.

Miscellaneous – List of miscellaneous achievements and some tips and videos explaining how to obtain them.

Lord of the Hunt (first DLC) – Detailed guide with tips and strategies for obtaining all achievements from this dlc but one, which will be explained in the last page.

The Bright Lord (second DLC) – Detailed guide with tips and strategies for obtaining all achievements from this dlc but one, which will be explained in the last page.

Trials of war / Challenge mode - A specific and detailed page for all 7 challenges for Trials of War mode, including the two challenges from the DLC which have achievements, called Test of the Wild and Test of the Ring, with strategies and videos.

All collectibles are marked in your map, once you discover the specific portion unlocking Forge Towers, and hopefully is not so much to worry and really help you upgrade faster, so I recommend playing the game, progressing through the story and collecting, at the same time.

This game doesn’t have a difficulty option to start, neither a difficulty achievement to earn, as expected. In the next page I will suggest some of best initial perks available in game and runes to use in your weapons for help you in the start, but after this, how you progress it’s up to you.

If you have any doubts, suggestions or corrections please post in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Walkthrough Discussion that I will be glad to answer, when me or my overseer Shh I am Batman can.

So let’s start explore this world and kill (or be killed by) many Uruks and some Caragors, Graugs, maybe even some Ghouls too....

Best initial upgrades

In this game you have three specific upgrades: Abilities, Attributes and Weapon Upgrades.

Abilities - Specific actions, skills and moves that let you progress through the game easier. Each ability is unlocked with one ability point, which is gained by earning XP for many actions in the game such as killing uruks, completing main missions and side missions, freeing slaves, etc.

In the start of the game you'll have only the Wraith Stun ability unlocked, the image below shows the list of abilities in this game, divided between the Ranger and Wraith abilities (left and right side, respectively).

Abilities

Abilities marked with a white padlock can be purchased when you have enough ability points. Abilities marked with a yellow padlock will be earned (not needing purchase) only when you progress more in the game by playing main missions, and abilities marked with a red padlock requires that you purchase other abilities first or that you gain enough power points, which are earned by completing Power Struggles and missions.

Each line represents one tier of ability, higher tiers will be unavailable until you unlock abilities from lower tiers and have enough power points, described above.

The best and recommended abilities from tier 1 is described below.

  • Detonate - Shooting camp fires or barrels to cause them to explode with your arrow, and you are immune to damage from these explosions.
  • Strike from Above - Aerial takedowns on unaware targets become lethal. After purchasing this ability you can use this as a takedown with cn_RT + cn_X.
  • Ride Caragors - With this ability you can mount a caragor from above, by pressing cn_RB.
  • Execution - When your Hit Streak is charged (8x consecutive activate the Hit Streak with counter turn red and your sword glowing) press cn_Y + cn_B to execute your target (very useful against "immortal captains", explained in Nemesis System topic).

Other abilities to keep in mind that will be very useful when you unlock specific tiers are:

Tier 2 - Critical Strike and Last Chance Finisher.

Tier 3 - Vault Stun (useful against Uruks with shields) and Swift Finisher.

Tier 4 - Blade Master (very useful because it reduces the streak you need from 8 to 5), Death Threat (a strategic and useful ability latter in the game, will be explained in details in Story Walkthrough), Shadow Mount and Fire Arrow (this last ability is useful for one missable achievement in Lord of the Hunt DLC, so you can unlock this later in the game, since this ability is not mandatory for the specific achievement, explained in details in Lord of the Hunt page).

Tier 5 - Critical Strike 2, Flame of Vengeance and Double Charge.

Attributes - Permanent improvements for your character and takes immediate effect when you purchase them.

Attributes

You can purchase new attributes by spending Mirian on them, which is the "money" of the game. You earn Mirian by completing missions, optional challenges and finding collectibles.

You will have 6 types of attributes to max out, from left to right in this order: Max Health Up, Max Elf-Shot Up, Max Focus Up, Sword Rune Slot, Bow Rune Slot and Dagger Rune Slot. A useful tip is to max your health first, or at least increase it 2 to 3 points, since dying in this game can be very frustrating and fun too, depending on your point of view (you will see and know why below, in the nemesis system topic), max your elf-shot and focus is useful too but not mandatory, in the first hours of the game, at least.

By unlocking specific numbers of Bow, Sword and Dagger rune slots you can earn three achievements, all of them explained in Miscellaneous page.

Weapon Upgrades - Runes that you use in your three weapons to maximize your effectiveness against your enemies. More about runes in the section below.

You can purchase more slots from your weapons (all start with only 1 each but can raise to 5 each) in the Attributes section, Upgrades menu.

Nemesis System

The new and innovative gameplay element created for this game is called the Nemesis System, it's an system where randomly named enemies in Sauron's Army are generated uniquely with their own personality and will rise or fall in the hierarchy of Sauron's Army depending of your actions as the game progresses. Each of these enemies will react differently to Talion's actions. Each dynamically generated enemy remembers the interactions players (and other enemies) have with him and reacts accordingly when they meet again.

This system can produce some enemies that appear to be "immortals". This can happen if you kill him and don't decapitate his head with an execution. Eventually, he will come back from the dead, with some scars that from your previous fights and this Uruk will remember you and try to kill you, again. The tip is to mantain your combo until it hits 8x (or 5x if you your use Blade Master ability), and Talion's sword glows white. You can then perform an Execution, pressing cn_Y + cn_B, and finally remove his head.

Defeating any of these captains (or later on, Warchiefs) will reward you with runes, described below.

Runes

Runes are upgrades for your weapons that you earn by defeating captains and warchiefs. The type of rune is related to the weapon you use to kill the Uruk. For example, if you kill an enemy with the sword, you receive a rune that you can use only on your sword.

Each rune has their own value, which depends on the Power level of the Uruk that you killed. If you kill a Captain or Warchief with a higher power level you will receive a powerful rune, possibly an epic rune (epic runes are the most powerful runes of the game, you start with 10 of these to equip in your weapons), which can be distinguished from the others by their gold color.

Thinking about that, in certain moments, is a good idea die for the same enemy over and over, because when you kill this enemy you will, probably, earn an epic rune. Plus, if this rune be at level 25 you will unlock an achievement (detailed tips for this achievement are in Miscellaneous page).

I don't recommend that you use this tip of dying in initial moments of game because your character are weak and don't have much abilities and attributes. Can be painful defeat some enemies in the start hours of the game. After you gain enough power, unlock many abilities, attributes and be confident is a way to go.

You can possibly earn an epic rune by sending a Death Threat to a specific Captain or Warchief and killing them. To do this you'll need the Death Threat ability. You will reward with another achievement by doing this.

Issue a Death Threat, and then successfully kill the target.

More Tips

- Don't be afraid to run. In the starting hours, you will be surrounded by many Uruks, maybe some captains, and the best option can be to run. If you die, the nemesis system, explained above, kicks into play. So it can be painful to face the same enemy and lose many times. Don't be ashamed of running, it's a strategic move.

- Stealth, always use stealth when it's possible. To enter into stealth mode just press cn_RT and, when you approach an enemy, the circle around their body will turn red, that means that you can kill them stealthly by pressing cn_X. You can extend this by attracting some Uruk with cn_RT + cn_Y and killing them from above or from below, if you're on a ledge.

- Your “Batman sense”, or “Eagle vision” version is one of more helpful features of this game, it’s called Wraith World, explained in tutorial of the game, and is activated by pressing cn_LB. You will need use wraith world mode many times, it is very useful for you to plan your strategies before entering into a dangerous area, to identify captains, or even for hunting collectibles and possible herbs nearby.

- Talking about herbs, use them, besides all of them are related to hunting challenges, which gives you an achievement (explained in Challenges page), they replenish your health to 100%. So always use them when you can, even in battles. This will be really helpful especially in the starting hours of the game.

- Always grab intel about captains and warchiefs, this game is not only about killing and smashing buttons, but is a LOT about planning how you kill. Knowing your enemy and their strengths and weaknesses is the best way to get out of a battle alive. It will also provide you with a rune (an epic maybe?) from the enemy that you kill. In the start of the game you will learn how to grab intel, always go looking for a green icons in the map. Once you find a ranked Uruk you can grab, or maybe a document to read, or a slave to free, take advantage.

- Power Struggle missions, do as many as you can (the red icons in the map), because you can weaken Sauron's Army, earning a lot of XP, working in some achievements (explained in Miscellaneous page), etc. Important: if you advance time, pressing cn_Y in a Forge Tower, you will see the Nemesis System work, which means all of the Power struggle missions will finish. All the captains of these missions will be promoted and all the missions will be replaced by other ones, so my tip is: DO NOT advance time, at least in the first 10 to 15 starting hours of the game, when your character is weak. Is better if you fast travel, by pressing cn_X in a Forge Tower, in the map.

Mission 1 - Prologue

You start learning the basic controls in a tutorial against Dirhael, your son and will learn how to counter, with cn_Y, how to attack, with cn_X, how to do a ground execution, with cn_RT + cn_X, how to grab and throw, holding cn_RB and how to sprint, pressing cn_A. You will learn too how to enter in stealth mode and to do a stealth kill, holding cn_RT and pressing cn_X.

After the cinematics you will take control and will need press cn_RB to reforge. When you do this you unlock a Forge Tower, and the Wraith’s memories, that show in your map all collectibles and missions, for this specific location.

After this you’ll enter in a battle, and will be gifted with a bow and learn how to interrogate an enemy, holding cn_RB and pressing cn_A, to grab valuable intel for other Uruks, or captains, from Sauron’s army. The first information that you’ll know is the “subtitle” of his name, denoting what position this Uruk occupies in the hierarchy of Sauron’s army. The next information is their Power Rating, so you know how difficult he will be to defeat. You’ll discover the locations of the captains in the map too.

Killing these Uruks gives you Runes to upgrade your weapons and Power Rating for unlock new abilities. You will need to interrogate more enemies to know more information about these enemies, like Strengths and Weaknesses.

After this tutorial you will earn the first achievement of the game.

You Will Obey
2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMain Storyline

Randomly you will encounter some green spots in your map, related to Uruks that you can interrogate to grab intel about captains. This information is very useful for your planning on how you can attack a captain, focusing on their weakness and knowing your strength.

Now you are free to explore this world. Like I said earlier all collectibles are marked on your map, once you unlock the Forge Towers, so you can collect now or later, it’s up to you, but I recommend collecting now, for reaching better upgrades early. You can always look in your map to finding these collectibles by pressing cn_back and using cn_RS to zoom.

You have two kinds of collectibles in this game, Artifacts and Ithildin, worth 50 mirian each. Mirian is the currency to upgrade your weapons and increase your attributes. Besides collectibles you earn Mirian by completing side missions, challenges and bonus objectives. In the area that you start the game, called Udûn Foothills, you have Artifact 1/42 and Ithildin 1/32 to collect. Above of your location, it's an area called The Black Gate, in there you will have Artifact 2/42, Artifact 3/42, Artifact 4/42 and Ithildin 2/32 to collect.

Besides your main missions you have four types of short side missions, three of them are related to each of your three weapons (is marked by the symbol of your respective weapon), 10 missions for Dagger, 10 missions for Sword and 10 missions for Bow. The other type of short side mission is an Outcast Rescue (marked as a fist inside a shield), you have 24 of them to complete, in total. All of these missions are explained with tips in Side Missions page.

This page will focus only in the main missions, so let's continue our adventure. Some missions can be done before others so the numbers below are only suggestive (you can do mission 4 before mission 2 or 3, for example).

Mission 2 - The Slaver

At the top of your map you will see an icon for the next main mission, called The Slaver, you need to press cn_RB to start the mission. In this mission the game will remind you again to use the Wraith World, pressing cn_LB. By pressing cn_RS you identify your target using this vision. Now, as bonus objective, you just need to eliminate all 4 archers before confront your target. Bonus objective is optional, you can do it if you want but if you do, you will earn more rewards at the end of the mission, it's up to you.

Remember to always when you can use stealth mode, by pressing cn_RT and cn_X to kill silently. To help you to find the archers use the Wraith World to identify the targets, which are marked in gold. You always can attract an enemy to your position by holding cn_RT and pressing cn_Y.

You can kill your target or gain intel from him before you kill, always when you can it's a smart choice gain intel first, mainly in the first hours of the game. After killing him you can get his rune, and equip in your slot for the weapon that you use to kill him.

After completing or between this mission you will earn an ability point, which can help you unlock abilities. If you don't know what abilities to unlock first remember to see the General hints and tips page.

By finishing this mission you will unlock the mission 3.

Mission 3 - An Interested Party

For this mission you will need use Wraith World, to help you follow the path. You need follow the tracks and, as a bonus objective, free 4 slaves in your way, by kliing the Uruks around each slave. Be careful using Wraith World because the paths leading to some enemies along the way, remember to disable Wraith World sometimes to see where you will going, by pressing cn_LB.

In the end you will come to a cave, follow the path to see some scenes. After this be prepared to use your bow, and be rewarded with an achievement.

Follow the path outside of the cave, kill the enemies and see the scenes to finish this mission.

By finishing this mission you will unlock the mission 5.

Mission 4 - The Spirit of Mordor

Before starting this mission I recommend that you open the map, going to the Forge Tower in the area called Durthang Outskirts, which is a Stronghold, some type of fortress with many Uruks, some Captains and trapped Caragors. You can work in misc achievements here too, but be careful, if some Uruks notice your presence they can set off a alarm, calling many more Uruks to kill you.

Remember to user your Wraith World to discover and climb the Forge Tower. Unlocking this tower the tutorial of game will explain that you can use Fast Travel between unlocked Forge Towers, by pressing cn_X. You can also advance time by pressing cn_Y. Doing this in the start of game is not recommended because the Power Struggles will be resolved and the Uruks involved will climbing in the ranks, becoming harder to defeat.

In this area you will have Ithildin 3/32, Ithildin 4/32 and Artifact 5/42 to collect. In the areas around your mission you will have Artifact 6/42 and Ithildin 5/32 in Durthang Keep, and Ithildin 6/32 in Durthang West, where your mission marker are. To the left of this area, you will have Artifact 7/42, at top-left side of the area called Durthang Wastes.

This mission will act as a tutorial to show to you how to explore the weakness of your enemies and be aware of their strengths. After the explanations follow Ratbag and help him. As a bonus objective you need mantain their health above 50%. You will be presented to a new type of enemy, called Defenders, you need leap over him using cn_A, attacking from behind to kill him.

If your health depletes until the bar is empty you will presented with another tutorial, called Last Chance Struggle, where you are given a second chance to survive, by moving the cursor into the circle with cn_LS and pressing the displayed button in screen. If your health empties always remember to collect herbs between the fights to avoid be killed.

The next part of the mission asks for you to find your target without raising alarms, just use your stealth button, by holding cn_RT, and go to the marker. After this you need go to hunting camp to finally reach your target and use their fear (Caragors) against him. To identify him just use your Wraith World and press cn_RS when the option appears in your screen.

If you want you can reforge the tower in this area, called Udûn Crossing, you have Ithildin 7/32, Artifact 8/42 and Artifact 9/42 (inside a cave, south of the tower) to collect. In the area of this Forge Tower you have 2 more areas, only one called West Garrison has collectibles: Ithildin 8/32, Ithildin 9/32, Artifact 10/42 and Artifact 11/42.

Just release the Caragor from his cage and kill your target before he escapes. After killing him you want to press cn_right to see the battle report and finish the mission.

By finishing this mission your will unlock the ability to Ride Caragors (very useful later in the game), and the missions 6 and 7, to play in the order that you wish.

Mission 5 - Climbing the Ranks

This mission needs to be done fast, as you have 4 minutes to prevent Ratbag's execution. As a bonus objective you need to kill in stealth 4 archers without being detected. Remember to use your Wraith World and hold cn_RT to enter in stealth mode. If you still haven't unlock it, now is a good time to unlock the ability Strike from Above.

You need interrogate a captain, called Brogg the Twin, but first you'll need weaken him by attacking him. This fight is a little harder because many Uruks protect their captain, always remember to counter, by pressing cn_Y in the right moment (when button shows in your screen). When the captain falls to the ground you can use a ground execution (cn_RT + cn_X) to weak him, turning the symbol around him green, which means he can be grabbed for interrogation. At this moment a tutorial will show to explain to you how interrogating Captains will work. By holding cn_RB and pressing cn_A you can interrogate him. DO NOT kill him before interrogate or your mission will fail.

Now the tutorial will explain what the Warchiefs are, which are the most powerful rank in the Uruk forces. The primary focus of Captains are to become a Warchief one day, by murder or even betraying their own people. Others Uruks will try gain favor or protection by serving Warchiefs as Bodyguards.

Brogg is the Bodyguard of an Warchief, called Mogg the Other Twin. You now know that because you have interrogated a Captain which is his Bodyguard. When you want to kill a Warchief, all of his Bodyguards will be there to defend him, so expect tough battles in the future. By pressing cn_RT you can see the weaknesses and strengths of the Warchief.

But before you can face this Warchief you will need to complete more main missions, which is located near the strongholds.

Now Ratbag replaced Brogg and is the Captain and Bodyguard of Mogg, so he can help you later.

Finishing this mission will unlock a new type of mission called Vendetta, which is the mission where you "avenge" the death of your friends in the game, by defeating the captain that kill your friend. Is very simple and by completing this mission unlocks the only online achievement for this game, so is better do it quickly.

If you don't have any friends with this game you always can use a second account (doesn't need to be a Gold account) to progress in the game at least for the first missions, add your primary account as a friend and die from some captain. After this you only need to change to your primary account and complete the vendetta mission when the icon appears in your map. You can add me as a friend too, if you prefer.

Finishing this mission unlocks the mission 9 and the extra mission that you need to kill 4 Warchiefs (one will be killed in mission 9 as part of main story), you can work in this mission any moment from now. By finishing this extra mission you'll unlock the mission 10.

Mission 6 - Shattered Memories

Follow Gollum, by sneaking behind him to avoid the Uruks. As you progress you will see a bonus objective, which is to kill 2 archers with headshots. You can upgrade the max focus of your bow, to slow time for longer while aiming.

You will need to use Wraith World to see where the Vision Artifact is, just follow the footprints and you will encounter it. After the cutscene you will face a new type of enemy, called Ghûls. Around your area are several grog barrels so one way to kill many of them is attract the Ghûls close to these barrels and shoot with your bow.

In this fight you will unlock a new ability, called Wraith Flash, that is very useful in the entire game. It is used to stuns Uruks and kills Ghûls, but you only can use it when your Hit Streak is charged, which is when your combo multiplier reaches 8x (default number, after unlocking one specific ability called Blade Master at tier 4 you need only reach the multiplier of 5x), by pressing cn_X + cn_A to stun or kill your enemies.

By killing all Ghûls the mission will finish, unlocking the mission 8.

Mission 7 - The Outcasts

In the area of this mission, called Barrows of Udûn, after you reforge the tower you can see these collectibles around the area: Ithildin 10/32, Ithildin 11/32, Ithildin 12/32, Artifact 12/42 and, in the top-left side, in the cave, Artifact 13/42.

Start this mission, after the cutscene, follow Hirgon and collect the herbs called Hithlas to make a poison, use your Wraith World to make things easy. You can use stealth to approach or kill everyone, it's up to you. After collecting the 3 herbs you need follow Hirgon to another place and collect more 2 herbs. One more time you need follow Hirgon and collect 3 herbs, after this you have collected the necessary herbs for Hirgon to make a poison.

Now you unlocked the Poison Grog ability, which is extremely useful. You need to come close to a Grog Barrel and press cn_RB to poison. After the Uruks drink from the poisoned Grog Barrel some will die and others will be suspicious and start fighting amongst themselves, like the tutorial explains.

Now to continue the mission you need sneak into Uruk's Hollow and poison 5 Grog Barrels. As a bonus objective you will need 5 stealth kills. If you are caught by any Uruks the mission will fail and you will restart the checkpoint. This part of mission requires patience so pay attention to the Uruks movements and always look at the marker if some Uruks see you. If it is not red, it is okay. In each barrel, after dropping your poison, quickly hide to some place safe before Uruks comes to drink their Grog. You can use the Caragor trapped close to your location to help attract attention from some Uruks while you poison another Grog.

After completing this objective you will see a cutscene and the mission will finish.

The area that you complete this mission is called The Black Road, you can reforge the tower in this area, doing this will appear in the map the following collectibles: Ithildin 13/32 and Artifact 14/42, to the right of this location are more 3 areas, Internment Camp with no collectibles, Uruk's Hollow with Artifact 15/42, Ithildin 14/32 and Ithildin 15/32, Uruk Proving Grounds with Artifact 16/42.

Tip: If you have a Power Struggle in your map called Feast you can go there and kill a captain by poisoning his Grog with your new ability, without anyone seeing. If you accomplish this the mission will finish and unlock an achievement.

Mission 8 - The One Truth

Follow the footsteps until you see a cutscene and a new enemy, called the Graug. Shoot your bow in the bait to attract the Graug and run to the entrance of the cave, you have only 20 seconds to reach the cave. After entering his lair follow the path to the marker, ignoring Ghûls in the way. After reaching a larger area use your Wraith World to see a ledge that footprints lead to. Collect the artifact and see the important cutscene.

After the cutscene you will unlock a new ability, called Shadow Strike, which is useful to transport you to your enemy very fast, by aiming at him with holding cn_LT and pressing cn_A. Use this ability to aim at the new enemy, called Ghûl Spitters (that use ranged acid saliva to hurt you) to quickly reach the exit of the cave.

As a bonus objective you need to reach the exit within 1 minute, so be fast and use this ability, from Ghûl to Ghûl. Exiting the cave will end the mission, and before that you will unlock an achievement.

Mission 9 - The Warchief

The last tower of this map is close to the area of this mission, in Southern Udûn Pass. Be careful, the tower in this region is very close to a stronghold and Uruks can raise an alarm if you are spotted. In this area you have Artifact 17/42, Ithildin 16/32 and Artifact 18/42. In the area of this mission, called East Garrison you have Artifact 19/42 to collect.

Back to the mission, after the cutscene you need to kill 2 Berserkers to attract the attention of the Warchief, as a bonus objective you need to kill a Berserker with a ledge kill, by standing in the ledge and using cn_RT + cn_Y to attract the Berserker for his position and use cn_RT + cn_X to perform a stealth kill. You can use the Grog Barrels in this platform to help you kill the other Berserk. Berserks counter normal attacks so be careful, you need to stun then with cn_B first or attack from behind.

After killing the final Berserker the Warchief will appear, my strategy was only focusing on the Warchief, ignoring the Berserkers and Archers, by jumping above him and attack from behind until he falls down and let me use the stealth attack. After some time he falls to one knee and you need to be quick to press the button in the QTE to finally kill him, unlocking an achievement after the cutscenes.

By killing this Warchief you work towards the extra mission below, now you need kill another 3 Warchiefs to unlock the main story mission 10.

Extra mission - Kill the Warchiefs

This mission requires that you kill 4 Warchiefs, but in the previous mission you already killed one, so you need to kill only 3. You need to search for a yellow mission in your map, do what the missions asks, optionally defeat the Warchief's bodyguards, or simply kill the Warchief for each specific mission.

You need to discover the location of the Warchief if the mission doesn't show in your map, for this you need to gain intel from Uruks you find in camps. Finding the location discovering the Strengths and Weakness of each Warchief before you confront him is the best idea. If you die when you return to try the mission again you only need to defeat the Warchief, don't need to spend time redoing the mission to "call" the Warchief like in the first time that mission asks.

Since these kind of missions are randomly generated I only can help telling you that once you kill all 3 Warchiefs you will unlock the mission 10.

If in some of these missions you use something to make the Warchief have fear, like Caragors or fire for example, you will notice the a green circle above the head of Warchief, killing him rewards you with an achievement, but be quickly because the Warchief will run away from battle.

Mission 12 - The Messenger

When you come close to the marker of the start of this mission a tutorial will appear telling you that you go to a new map, called Sea of Núrnen. You can return to Udûn at any time from the map.

After the cutscene you will be in the new map, just follow the marker to advance in the mission. You will pass by a Forge Tower, remember to climb up and reforge to enable a respawn point, and to unlock in this area, a place called Harad Basin, and the collectibles Artifact 20/42, Artifact 21/42, Artifact 22/42, (in the cave to the right) Ithildin 17/32, Ithildin 18/32 and Ithildin 19/32 (in the cave to the right).

After reaching the marker you need to enter in Wraith World to track the Ghûls into a cavern, be careful.

Your next task will be reach the marker without attract the attention of the Ghûls, remember to go stealthly, by holding cn_RT. After reach your destination and the cutscene you will be trapped with a new enemy, called a Ghûl Matron, some type of "boss" of the regular Ghûls. To defeat her you need to attack 2 or 3 times and use cn_A to jump above their head and attack from behind more 2 or 3 times. Sometimes you need to dodge too, but she is not so hard to defeat. A best tip is to use your elf shot to shoot in a fire beside you, to kill the Matron faster. After some time more Ghuls will appear, just focus on the Matron until you kill her.

Once you kill her you have 2 minutes to exit the cavern and the mission will be over. As a bonus objective you need to kill 30 Ghuls with fire, it is not so hard to do.

Mission 13 - Queen of the Shore

After the cutscene you will have 90 seconds to reach the fort to the north-west of your location, avoiding detection. After reaching the marker, another cutscene and you will unlock one of the most useful abilities of the game, called Brand. A tutorial will appear explaining to you how to brand a enemy, you can hold cn_B, using with cn_RT to make a stealth brand, or in combat, by using cn_A + cn_B when your reach a hit streak (5 or 8x consecutive hits).

You need to brand 6 archers without been detected, as a bonus objective you need to brand 6 archers in 3 minutes, very easy to achieve, just go in stealth mode and use the Wraith World.

After this you need to "activate" your branded archers by pressing cn_up and kill 15 enemies in the process. With help this will be easy. After another cutscene, another battle, now you need to kill 20 enemies, but you can wait for your "friends" to kill them or brand more Uruks to help you kill the remaining Uruks.

By killing all enemies you will finish the mission and unlock mission 16.

The area that you complete this mission is called Cab-Gwanath Bluff, and after you reforge the tower you will be able to collect the Artifact 23/42. Three more areas above you in the map will be unlocked, one is called Tol Crossing and have the Artifact 24/42, another is called Maw of Hope and have Ithildin 20/32, Ithildin 21/32 and Artifact 25/42. Finally the third top right area unlocked is called Executioner's Watch, and have Ithildin 22/32 and Artifact 26/42.

Mission 14 - Big Game

To start this mission you need to cross one side of the map to another, so I will list the collectibles in the regions of the lower half of the map, until you reach the other side of the map.

In the region besides your initial area, called Thang Talath, you have the Artifact 27/42 and in the lower part of the map you have Ithildin 23/32, in a cave. The next region, called Fern Outskirts have Artifact 28/42, Artifact 29/42 and Ithildin 24/32. The next region, called Fort Morn, will have Artifact 30/42, Artifact 31/42, Artifact 32/42, Ithildin 25/32 and Ithildin 26/32. The next region, called Ethir Poros, will have only the Artifact 33/42. The next region, called Celon Poros will have Artifact 34/42, Artifact 35/42, Artifact 36/42 (in a cave in the north) and Ithildin 27/32. Finally the region of your mission, called Tirith Mesas will have Artifact 37/42, Ithildin 28/32, Ithildin 29/32 and Artifact 38/42 (in a cave in the south).

Ok, let's start the mission. Follow Torvin until you unlock an ability, called Caragor Hunter. You can now counter a Caragor's attack, by using cn_Y. Remember to use cn_RB to mount the Caragor and press the correct button inside the circle, on the screen, before the timer ends.

Follow Torvin and now you need to kill more Uruks than him as bonus objective, remember to use cn_X to stun an Uruk and cn_Y to eat him, using the Caragor. After a little distance you need to kill more Uruks and archers too, try killing more Uruks than Torvin to complete the bonus objective. Remember to bite the Uruks to replenish the health of the Caragor.

In the end you need to ambush a patrol and kill a runner before he call reinforcements. Come back to Torvin, help him, a cutscene will appear and the mission will end.

Finish this mission will unlock mission 15.

Mission 15 - Hunting Partners

Follow Torvin, and now you will learn the ability Graug Bleed, for this you need to sneak up behind a Graug holding cn_RT as usual and press cn_X to bleed him. Doing this will attract Caragors to the Graug.

Now you need to mount a Caragor, look at the yellow markers to find a Caragor to mount. If you take too much time to mount a Caragor try to go closer to a yellow marker and press cn_RB that the animation that you dominate a Caragor will appear. Maybe is a bug, but this happen to me.

Now you need to lure the Graug to Torvin's position and hit the Graug with a headshot. After this a quick cutscene will appear and you will gain an ability, called Graug Hunter. You need to approach the Graug, press cn_RB to mount it and follow the buttons that will appear in the screen to fully dominate the Graug.

Another ability will be unlocked, called Graug Attacks, you can attack with cn_X and grab and eat Uruks with cn_Y, to regain health. Now you need to kill the group of Uruks, as bonus objective you need to eat at least 3 Uruks. Finally kill the Graug by holding cn_RT and pressing cn_B and the mission will finish.

Finish this mission will unlock mission 17.

Mission 16 - The Power of the Wraith

After the cutscene you need to locate Grûblik, a captain, in the green circle in your map. When you reach the circle use your Wraith World and press cn_RS to identify your target. After this you will unlock a ability, called Command. With this ability you can give orders to captains, after you dominate him (by holding cn_RB and pressing cn_A), by pressing cn_Y to issue a command. As tutorial explains you can send your branded captain to kill another captain or try to become a Warchief's bodyguard.

You can defeat the regulars Uruks first or go straight to Grûblik, to dominate him you need to first weaken him until a green circle appears or at least a green skull. After this you can grab him and choose the option Dominate and the option Command. After this you will create a Power Struggle mission by sending your captain to become a Bodyguard from the Târz Warchief.

Now you need to go to the Recruitment Power Struggle created, to help your captain. Use your bow in the yellow markers to complete the mission. There will be 3 groups of Uruks to defeat, as bonus objective you need to keep in the ledge above your captain the entire fight. Since there are 3 groups of Uruks and each are in different locations, to complete the bonus objective you need to use all buildings and ledges in the area. The third group of enemies are harder than the first and second, but still not so hard to defeat.

After kill all enemies the Power Struggle will be finished and your captain will be promoted as Bodyguard for Târz Warchief. Now you will be in another location of the map, in the entrance of a Uruk stronghold, and first need to reach a vantage point without raising the alarm. By reaching the vantage point Târz will appear, you need to press cn_up to activate your captain, to help you kill the Warchief.

If you let your captain be killed the mission will fail, and you'll need to retry. Focus on killing the Warchief but don't forget to help your captain to survive.

After killing Târz your captain will be promoted to Warchief and the mission will finally be over, a cutscene will appear and one achievement will be unlocked.

Mission 17 - The Great White Graug

This mission starts and you will need to dominate a Dire Caragor (a stronger version of a normal Caragor). After this you need to follow Torvin to the cave.

After the cutscene the battle begins. First stand as far you can from the Graug and wait for him to attack. After the Graug comes close to you a tutorial will appear, called Graug Stun, you need to shoot a bow in the head of the Graug to disorient him, then dodge out of the way. After you stun him, run directly to the Graug and press cn_RB to remove a little of his health.

Some Ghûls will appear and you need to kill them as fast as you can, because the Graug can grab one of them to replenish their health, if he grab one of them, quickly use your bow and shoot in the Graug's head, you need to do this 3 times as bonus objective.

Extra mission - Brand the Warchiefs

This mission requires that you brand 5 Warchiefs, but since in mission 16 you already branded one, you only need more four. It is highly recommended that you have many abilities unlocked, a good amount of health and elf-shots and have already done many side missions, because this task is not easy.

Another good and important tip is that you discover their weak and their strong points, by gaining intel with Uruks or with maps. If you know the weakness of a Warchief the battle certainly will be easier. The other tip is that you need to eliminate all bodyguards of the Warchief before confronting and branding him, to make things easier.

Another tip that I use is to kill all but one bodyguard of a Warchief, brand this bodyguard and command him to betray the Warchief. Doing this will create a Power Struggle, like this that I create for the last Warchief, in the image below.

Betrayal Power Struggle

This mission don't have a specific location, you need to find each one in Sauron's Army, by looking for yellow skulls, going for each specific location and doing the specific mission. Killing the Warchief will promote your branded captain up to Warchief, which still completes your objective by having a branded Warchief.

Once you brand all 4 remaining Warchiefs you will unlock an achievement.

In the first area you can shoot a bow in the fire in the middle of camp, in the second area you can use the Caragors to help you and in the third area you can use a fire place again. Remember to stealth brand some Uruks to help you and to complete the bonus objective.

After clearing all 3 areas another cutscene will appear and the mission will finish, unlocking the mission 19.

Back to the mission. After the cutscene you need to run, you have 8 minutes to find Lithariel. In the meantime you need to brand 6 Uruks too without raising the alarm. Only after you brand these Uruks that Lithariel's location will appear in your map, so your top priority is brand the Uruks first, as quickly as possible. As a tip, try brand each enemy individually, without going into a group of Uruks to avoid that some of them try raise the alarm and make your mission fail.

After branding these Uruks, you go to the location of Lithariel. A cutscene will appear and now you have an option, kill the Uruks or brand him. Since you will need help of them later, it is better if you brand the Uruks. After this go to Lithariel, you need to hold cn_RB to carry her until some enemies appear. When this happen you need to release Lithariel to focus on killing these enemies. Try staying close to Lithariel to protect her from attacks.

The Red Tide - Núrnen Peninsula (Requirement: Execution ability)

To execute you need to bring your multiplier to 5 or 8x, approach to the Defender and press the cn_Y + cn_B to execute him.

After clear the 5 areas the mission you need to leave the area to finish the mission.

The Dark Rider - Celon Poros (Requirement: Ride Caragors ability)

You need to right at the start of the mission press cn_RB to mount the Caragor and kill the 3 groups of Uruks to stop the execution in 3 minutes and 20 seconds. As bonus objective you need to kill 5 Uruks with bite attacks, by pressing cn_B. You don't have too much time to spare so be quick.

Try mantain your Caragor alive during the entire mission to make things easier, the mission will finish when you kill all 3 groups of Uruks.

Power of the One - Fort Morn (Requirement: Combat Drain and Dispatch abilities)

For this mission you need to use Brand ability to make Uruks kill each other. As bonus objective you need to use Combat Drain ability in at least 5 Uruks.

Shattered - Southern Black Road

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective kill to 2 Uruks by holding cn_RT + cn_X below enemies in ledges. In this area you have many platforms and ledges so for accomplish the bonus objective will be easy.

Hold your Tongue - Uruk's Hollow

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective kill 3 Uruks while they investigate your Attract position. To attract you need to hold cn_RT and press cn_Y. Just be careful that in this area is full of enemies, since is a stronghold you can even be caught by a captain.

After you finish the mission and leave the stronghold a fist can show in your map, which indicates that a new outcast mission can be unlocked, if you kill the Uruks that are with the slaves that you need to liberate. If not show don't worry, eventually more fists will show in your map and more missions will be unlocked.

Resistance - Internment Camp

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective you need to kill 3 Uruks using by killing enemies from above. Try to use stealth because you are entering in a stronghold with archers, regular Uruks and special Uruks that can kill you.

The last slave is in one area that appears to be a arena, when you enter probably many Uruks will see you, so be as quickly as possible to press cn_RB to free the slave and the mission will finish, so you can run away or kill them.

Unleashed - Barrows of Udun

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective use Caragors to kill 5 Uruks. Just ahead to when you start the objective you can shoot at the Caragor's bait and wait for them.

In my attempt I have two captains around the last two slaves to rescue and have to kill both of them, so be careful.

Over the Edge - Barrows of Udun

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective you need to kill 3 Uruks by using cn_RT + cn_Y to brutalize them.

Be careful in this area because you have Defenders (enemies with the shield, you need to use cn_A to leap over them), Berserkers (enemies with the axes, you need to stun them using cn_B) to kill you and even a captain, if you're unlucky as me. If you have the Shadow Kill (cn_LT + cn_X) ability unlocked, use it, will be helpful. You have a camp fire ahead to help too.

Drink Up - Durthang West

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective you need to poison 3 Grog Barrels. Be careful, in this area you will certainly will see with the Wraith Vision at least one captain.

To poison a grog barrels just come closer and press cn_RB.

Worked to Death - Southern Udun Pass

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective you need to stealth kill 10 Uruks. They are not to closer to each other so the bonus objective will not be hard to achieve, but do not use Shadow Strike kill for this objective, only counts stealth kill (cn_RT + cn_X).

The last slave is inside a cave, if you don't want to do the bonus objective before you enter you can see some grog barrels inside, just shoot at them to help you kill many Uruks

Venom - The Black Gate

You need to rescue 5 slaves and as bonus objective you need to poison 3 Grog Barrels. You have a Caragor to help you and can brand some enemies by holding cn_B for a few seconds or use Combat Drain (cn_A + cn_X) when you combo charges (every 5 or 8x consecutive hits).

The Watcher - East Garrison

You need to rescue 5 slaves and as bonus objective you need to kill 10 Uruks with ranged attacks, using your bow. Shadow Strike kills will count for this. You can find some caragors trapped in cages in this area, might be helpful.

Be careful in this area, I found two captains that I have to deal it.

Borrowed Blades - Durthang Outskirts

You need to rescue 5 slaves and as bonus objective you need to kill 3 Uruks with Brutalize from Above, by holding cn_RT + cn_Y from above.

Be careful in this area too, you can encounter some captains, besides many Uruks, remember to use Caragors and Morgai Flies to help.

The Uprising - The Black Gate

For the final mission of the map you need to rescue 7 slaves and as bonus objective you need to make 10 Uruks flee in terror. Use brutalize to help you (cn_RT + cn_Y) but only work if the Uruk didn't see you.

After rescue some slaves another ones will help you to defeat the Uruks.

Outcast Rescue - Sea of Núrnen Area (12 missions):

Below is a map for Nurnen area to find all 12 starting points for Outcast missions, credits to GamePressure.

Outcast Rescue - Nurnen

The Name of Power - Harad Basin

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective throw 3 Uruks over ledges. Grab with cn_RB and throw away pressing cn_RB again. Use the grog barrels to your advantage here.

Unchained - Nurnen Peninsula

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective kill 5 Uruks while they investigate your attract position. To attract you need to press cn_RT + cn_Y and wait for the Uruk comes to your direction. The slaves are inside a cave, outside the stronghold, I took a few seconds to find.

Be careful with the Ghûls in the final area, use your Wraith Flash to help when are charged (cn_X + cn_A).

The Evil Eye - Cab-Gwanath Bluff

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective kill 5 Uruks with headshots, use your bow to help.

The Hunger - Cab-Gwanath Bluff

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective ledge kill 3 Uruks. If you have problems use the camp fire or the grog barrels to help you kill the Uruks.

For the first 2 slaves you have a camp fire to help you kill the Uruks, for the other is only one Uruk to kill.

Last Hope - Celon Poros

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective throw 5 Uruks over ledges, same strategy of The Name of Power mission.

I found a captain in this mission, but hopefully was just unlucky.

Unbroken - Fern Outskirts

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective don't get hit. Try to be sneakly as possible to reach this objective and brand the Uruks holding cn_B in direction of a Uruk to help you in this.

In the Flesh - Cab-Gwanath Bluff

You need to rescue 5 slaves in 2 minutes and as bonus objective use Caragors to kill 5 Uruks. The good point is that you have 2 minutes for reach and liberate each slave, so is not so hard. At the start of the mission do a shadow strike kill in the archer in the front of you and release the caragor below your position.

Release the first slave and come back to the other side, for the other slave. Close to the next slave release the Caragor to help you achieve the bonus objective. I encounter a captain in this second slave.

Use this strategy for the others 3 slaves, release a Caragor, use a camp fire to help you in more kills and release the slave. You can shadow mount a Caragor (cn_LT + cn_A) to help acelerate the process.

The Stand - Harad Basin

You need to rescue 3 slaves and as bonus objective make 5 stealth brands in Uruks. To do a stealth brand in a Uruk you need to hold cn_RT and press cn_B. Holding cn_B close to a Uruk doesn't work, need to do hold cn_RT before.

Light in the Darkness - Ethir Poros

You need to rescue 5 slaves and as bonus objective make 20 stealth kills in Uruks. The area for this mission is big than normal rescue missions so you have time to use your stealth kills (cn_RT + cn_X) as advantage.

Weapons of War - Nurnen Peninsula

You need to rescue 5 slaves and as bonus objective make 20 Uruks kill another Uruks. This area certainly have captains so be careful. Remember to use stealth brand and brand to help you achieve the bonus objective.

Nowhere to Hide - Cab-Gwanath Bluff

You need to rescue 5 slaves and as bonus objective don't get hit. Try follow the tips of the Unbroken mission above. This area certainly have captains too so be careful.

To Freedom - Fort Morn

The final mission is the hardest, you need to rescue 10 slaves and as bonus objective inspire an uprising. With luck you don't encounter a captain, like me.

Once you freed the first slave many Uruks will appear, it's a trap! While fighting, try to prevent the Uruks from attacking the slaves that you have just freed, as well as the new allies that soon reach the fort to help you. Thanks to this, you will complete the bonus objective without too much trouble.

The slaves liberated will help you free more slaves so as soon all slaves are freed the mission will finish.

If you complete all 24 missions the achievement below you will unlock.

In this mission you will be mounted on a wretched graug and, after Zûgor appears if you vomit (cn_LT + cn_RT) on some of their bodyguards (which are captains) you can earn this achievement.

For the next achievement you will need to use your dominated Ghûls to take down the Graug in this mission, but first stun the graug by firing two charged headshots (by holding cn_LT + cn_RT) and weaken him, until their life is less than half, to be safe. After this stun one more time and your Ghûls will jump in the Graug, so only press cn_down to dispatch them and watch the explosion and the achievement below will unlock.

If you can't kill the Graug in this mission, like I can't, I suggest that you try again after you complete this DLC, in the free roam. Fern Outskirts is a good area to try this, the video below can help you, credits to Phoenix C64.

You can, but is not easy, earn one more achievement in the final part of the mission, where you confront the warchief, after he escape from his cavern, which requires that you brand an Caragath, an Wretched Graug and a Spitter Ghoul simultaneously. Spitter is the ghûls that throw acid in you. If you can brand all three before you kill the final warchief this achievement will unlock. If you brand all three and don't earn the achievement before the warchief dies maybe is because the Spitter Ghoul that you branded died, so you need dismount of Caragath and brand a new Spitter.

The final achievement for this DLC involve the Test of the Wild challenge, so I put the details of this challenge in Trials of War / Challenge mode page.

This is the second and last story DLC for Shadows of Mordor as a standalone campaign called The Bright Lord, which contains new missions, challenges, power level of Uruks raised to 25, abilities, skins and obviously again achievements. This DLC is quite difficult, because your life meter is half of Talion, but for the other side you have new abilities and the power of the One Ring to help you.

First things first, you will see One Ring optional missions after you reforge all 5 towers in the map. You will need do all of them (only four) to earn the only missable achievement from this DLC.

Maximize the power of the Ring by completing all of the One Ring missions.

In the start of the first mission you will learn some new abilities, as Shadow Brand and Wraith Flash. Talking about Shadow Brand (cn_LT + cn_B) you need to use this ability 20 times in Uruks to earn an achievement, keep using in the first missions and you will have the achievement below in no time.

So you have an "personal army" of Uruks, whenever you want you can press cn_left to call up to five Uruks to help you in a battle.

After this you will need to rebuild 5 forge towers in your map, by branding Uruks in each region to call attention of their leaders (same as tutorial explained), after killing (or dominating) the captains you can rebuild another tower, until you complete all five.

Like I said in the start of this page, exactly after you reforge all towers, and unlock the Eregion Reforged achievement, all One Ring mission will be unlocked. You need to do all of these missions to earn the only missable achievement of this DLC, don't finish the DLC before complete all One Ring missions. Completing these missions grants longer duration for your One Ring power.

This final reforge tower mission is a awesome opportunity to try the achievement for brand 20 Uruks in 60 seconds. If you can't brand all 20 another good option is the One Ring mission called Strength in Numbers. By doing this task you will unlock another achievement.

You'll need get a Level 30 Epic Rune, and can be done as explained in the Solution for Beyond Epic in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Game of the Year Edition, doing this method I spent only 11 minutes, credits to InsidiousMrMoo for his simple and effective guide.

The last achievement of this DLC is for complete the challenge called Test of the Ring, I explained in the Trials of war / Challenge mode page, with details.

Challenge mode

Trials of war, also known as Challenge mode, is the ultimate skill proof for the fans in this game, featuring different objectives and situations to test your ability to score higher points in global leaderboard.

Since only 2 of these challenges are achievement related, I will explain with maximum details my strategy in these two only, in the end of this page, to help you finish this game, the others I will only list the objectives necessary to reach Elite Leaderboards, if you want.

Most of the people leave these two challenges for the end of their list so I will do my best to explain what I use and add some tips that can be useful too, hopefully you will use and earn this hard achievements.

Test of Speed

Main Objective - Kill any 1 Warchief plus any 5 Captains.

  • Finish with no warchiefs in power.

Test of Power

Main Objective - Kill any 3 Warchiefs plus any 10 Captains.

Bonus Objectives to qualify for the Elite Leaderboards:

  • Earn 8000 points;
  • Complete in 30 minutes (awards 1000 points);
  • Complete with 2 or fewer deaths (awards 1000 points).

Test of the Wild

Main Objective - Kill 5 Warchiefs plus 20 Captains.

Bonus Objectives to qualify for the Elite Leaderboards:

  • Earn 13000 points;
  • Kill 10 captains with monsters;
  • Complete in 40 minutes (awards 1000 points).

You don't have too much time for error in this trial so be quick, I earned the achievement only in my 5th attempt, so here's my strategy:

Around the place that you start will be many Uruks, always use Shadow Strike (cn_LT + cn_A) from long distance and cn_B in short distance to stun your enemies and try get intel from at least 11 or 12 captains that are freeroam the map, you will probably get the locations of some captains involved in Power Struggles, ignore for now, but try to get at least 10 in the map for killing all of them with your Graug.

After this you probably have 5 or 6 minutes, hopefully less in the clock, shoot the graug bait, in the bridge in front of the Tower that you start the challenge, shadow mount on your graug and use your map to help locate the closest captains of your area. When you see a captain run at him and press cn_Y with your Graug to eat him, if you done correctly he will eat quickly the captain, and you will avoid the animation that appears when a captain see and talk to you before the battle.

After eating all 10 captains press cn_RT + cn_B to kill your Graug and earn some points in the process. After this you probably have less than 18 minutes on the clock, hopefully less than 15 minutes. Now is a good time to make a backup of your save, if you have a pendrive.

Remember that I said to gather intel to find 11 or 12 captains that are freeroaming in the map? You need to find these 1 or 2 captains to gather intel for Warchiefs now. Your primary objective is to find Zûgor Beast Butcher, a masked Uruk with the crossbow that shoots fire arrows, this Warchief is the best option to kill others Warchiefs quickly! He is a monster with their fire arrows. If you don't find him as the first Warchief that you gather intel try to find Ûgakûga Graug Rider. If you don't find any of them I recommend that you use your backup and try again, or find another captain or a Worm in the map to gather intel for more Warchiefs.

After this part you need to brand this Warchief, at this moment you have at least 12 captains killed, 10 with monsters, and less than 20 minutes on the clock. Do the mission and brand your Warchief, after this grab him and press cn_A and cn_Y to send him to a riot against others Warchiefs. Do this for the other 4 Warchiefs, always help in the battle to finish quickly as possible.

Important: after each battle that your Warchief wins grab him, send to another riot and after you see the icon for your Warchief disappears immediately press cn_down to kill all branded Uruks around and help you earn more points towards the 13.000 required.

After killing all 4 Warchiefs you probably have passed the 30 minute mark, so try to be quickly as possible now. You need only to kill the remaining captains doing more riots with your Warchief, in my experience I killed 6 captains in less than 60 seconds each, because they are too weak and my Warchief have these insane fire arrows.

Now you still have some seconds or minutes to spare, if you still have time and have less than 11.000 points grab some Caragors or Graugs and kill them to earn some points, by holding cn_RT and pressing cn_B. After this press cn_down to kill your Warchief and all Uruks around to finish the challenge.

You will earn 1.000 points for completing the bonus objectives and 1,000 points for completing the test in less than 40 minutes, so your total will pass or at least be equal to 13.000. In my 3rd try I finished inside the 40 minute mark but with 12.600 points, so you need to always look for your points and try planning to have at least 11k by the end of the challenge.

It is not easy but is doable with much persistence, skill to doing kills quickly and never die to anyone (seriously, do not die in this challenge) and a bit of luck to find the captains close to each other.

More tips that I use and help me a lot during my tries:

  • Your time will pause while in the Sauron's Army, viewing the map or in any part or the menu (the same here applies to the next challenge, Test of the Ring)
  • If you can, backup your save in strategic times during your playthrough
  • In the first parts of the challenge always remember to use your Wraith Vision cn_LB, it is one of the most useful abilities for this challenge to find captains quickly
  • Use A LOT Shadow Strike cn_LT + cn_A and Shadow Kill cn_LT + cn_X in this challenge to shorter distances and avoid wasting time
  • If you still haven't come to the riot part, killed a captain and need to travel to another part of the map but can't right now because many Uruks are around you just Quit the game. The game saves after every time that a captain or Warchief is killed so don't worry, you will come back at the initial fast travel
  • Don't waste too much time to do the 10 monster kills, as soon as possible call a Graug and make these kills, to avoid problems with time in the future
  • Remember to always dodge with cn_B, counter with cn_Y and jump over the enemy with cn_A, these simple commands are very efficient in a battle with many Uruks
  • After each challenge completed, even if you fail to complete in time you will notice that the map will mantain the runes obtained by Warchiefs and Captains dead, use some of them to help you in the battle
  • To brand Zugor Beast Hunter first make sure you are full on elf-shot, use Shadow Kill 5 or 6 times or fire arrows until you brought him to his knees, keep looking to his health, I killed him unintentionally and need to use Ûgakûga but didn't work for me
  • Don't waste too much time hunting captains around the map, once you have your 10 monster kills plus your intel about one of the Warchiefs aforementioned just brand one of them and start doing the riots as soon as possible, by doing riots you will see that is much easier and quicker to kill the Warchiefs and Captains

If you manage to do all objectives in time you will earn the well deserved achievement below. Congrats!

A video that can help you, with other strategies follows, is for PS4 but the challenge is the same, credits to Harry Ellanki.

Test of the Ring

Main Objective - Kill 5 Warchiefs plus 12 Captains.

Bonus Objectives to qualify for the Elite Leaderboards:

  • Finish with 8 Captains or Warchiefs branded;
  • Brand at least 50 grunts;
  • Finish in 60 minutes.

This is the objectives that you need to complete to earn this achievement. Involves a good skill and a bit of luck, is hard but still easier than previous challenge, I earned the achievement in my 2nd attempt, here's my strategy:

It is good to notice that this is different from the DLC campaign in that this Trial you have all 5 slots available for each of your weapon to use a Rune, so you can use up to 15 runes in your weapons, that is extremely helpful, keep this in mind to change for better runes as soon you starts the challenge.

You need to count with a little of luck in the start of this challenge, because is pretty important that you have a Beast Hunt mission in your map as soon the challenge starts, or a Graug close to your area, because a Graug is the best and quickest way to cross your map, besides that you need a Graug to kill captains more easily and quickly, by using cn_Y to eat him. If you don't have a Beast Hunt mission or a Graug available from the start, restart the challenge, or try fast travel but I advise that you don't waste too much time with this, you can finish without the help of the Graug but will be more difficult.

As soon the challenge starts press cn_left to call 5 Uruks to your Forge Tower, press cn_RB to grab and press cn_A to gather intel and choose one captain in a black space in the Sauron's Army. Do this for all Uruks in your power, still in the Forge Tower. When you can call more Uruks and repeat the process until you discover the location of all 20 captains.

You still have less than 5 minutes on the clock, so let's start properly. Once you discover the location of all captains find the nearest captain of your location and go brand him. In my first attempt I try first kill 12 captains and after brand, but I have many problems and in the second attempt (in this attempt I earned the achievement with 55 minutes) I switch my order to this:

  • Go brand all 8 captains, when you brand 5 of them gather intel about all 5 Warchiefs and their respective locations
  • Go kill the Warchiefs, doing their specific missions, but DO NOT kill the 5th or the mission will finish
  • Try find a Graug to help you to move faster between the map and go kill all 12 captains, simply by eating them with cn_Y
  • Between these kills remember to always brand as much Uruks as possible, by using Wraith Flash (cn_A + cn_X)
  • Finally if you have completed all objectives go kill the final Warchief

Some tips that certainly will help you:

  • Remember to always charge your One Ring to help you defeat Uruks with Combat Master ability, by branding as many Uruks as possible, use Wraith Flash to help you. When your One Ring is charged just press [cn_L] + [cn_R] to activate, the time will slow and you have some seconds to kill your opponent.
  • Don't worry too much about branding Uruks because by branding only against some captains and Warchief you probably will reach the 50 required by the end of the challenge
  • Whenever you need some help and your One Ring still not fully charged remember to press cn_left to summon 5 Uruks to help you
  • Talking about summoning Uruks, if in a Warchief mission asks for you to defeat 20 enemies without taking damage you can summon 5 Uruks 4 times and each time press cn_down to kill the Uruks, and stills counts for the 20 kills, but you need to do this inside the green area to count
  • Have patience, in my first attempts I spend almost 60 minutes and don't complete all the objectives, so I decided to restart the challenge and in the second attempt I completed, so use your first attempts to see what you can do and to practice

If you manage to do all objectives in time you will earn the well deserved achievement below. Congrats!
