Halo 5: Forge (Win 10)

Welcome to the walkthrough for Halo 5: Forge (Win 10).

As this is basically the Forge editor from Halo 5, ported to the PC for easier controls via mouse and keyboard, it's not really a game and you'll get most achievements by tasks not related to playing at all.

The "game" is also free, so it's a pretty quick and easy free 1000G, with only a few tricky achievements which aren't hard, but require other people, so be warned that you'll need other players for almost half of the achievements. Even though most of them can be gotten with just one additional player, others require 3, 4 and 7 additional players.

This is why the completion time can vary. We had some problems connecting and starting a game with each other because sometimes the fireteams and lobbies in the game act weird, but it shouldn't be too bad.

This guide will aim for getting all the achievements in as few steps as possible, therefore the walkthrough will be divided in achievements you can get solo and achievements that require other players.

So now that we got that out of the way, let's get this going and get you your 1000G!

There is not too much to say here, but here are a few general things to add:

As you are playing this on a PC already there is no need to use a controller at all, the controls with mouse and keyboard are much better so just stick to them.

Pressing CTRL+D on your keyboard will duplicate any item you have selected and CTRL+S will save the current map. These will come in handy.

To track your achievement progress on some of the achievements like "How many wins do i have already?" you can go to the Xbox App that comes with Win10 and check it there. Sometimes you need to refresh the achievements page though in order for the progress to show up.

Also if you want to communicate with the other players for the multiplayer part, you can use the Win10 Xbox App again, to set up a party like you would on the Xbox, we had some problems and a few people couldn’t connect at all due to network errors, but it worked out fine in the end anyway.

For one of the achievements you need to have your Game DVR activated. I included how to do that later in the guide when this is relevant, but if you want to get this out of the way in the beginning here is how you do it. If you never deactivated it, it should be activated already, but to check go to your Win10 Xbox App and on the left sidebar go all the way down to settings. Go to Game DVR there and activate it.

Something else to note is that there is an error in one of the achievement descriptions:

Setting the Stage

Create 50 Forge Maps with 50 or more Props each.

Setting the Stage
1 guideOnline/OfflineSingle PlayerCooperativeCumulative +

It reads "Create a Forge Map with 50 or more Props." but if you look at it in the Win 10 Xbox App it shows it actually is "Create 50 Forge Maps with 50 or more Props each." So be aware of that, but I will mention this again, later, when we go for this achievement.

At first I would advise you to complete the tutorial witch will give you an understanding of the controls and how to use some of the editors features.

From the main menu go to "Forge" - "Tutorials" and start the tutorial. Completing that will earn you:

Monitor Bootcamp

Complete the Forge Tutorial.

Now starts the actual building part.

From the main menu go to "Forge" - "Build", chose Alpine as your map and start it.

Now click on the "Globe" in the top right corner and select "Lighting" - "Theme/Skybox" and there just change it to something else.

You should see the sky change and you'll earn:

Climate Control

Change the Skybox within a Forge Map.

For the next achievements follow those steps, each of them will unlock an achievement, but if it isn't listed immediately after the step, we'll unlock it later:

  1. Go to the "+" icon on the upper right - "Gameplay" - "Vehicles" - "Land" and place 5 Warthogs. (You can place any 5 vehicles you want, but that’s what I did, also left click the vehicle and press CTRL+D on your keyboard to duplicate it, to save you time).
  2. Go to the "+" icon on the upper right - "Gameplay" - "Shields" - "Two way" and pick any of the shields there and place it somewhere. Now click the shield with your left mouse button and press "P" on your keyboard to open the properties of the shield. There go to "Scripts" and add a script. Left click the script, go to condition, press "<" until you get "spawned" as your condition. Now add "move off set" as the action and change the value of x, y or z, i just put "2" as the x value.
  3. Go to the "+" icon on the upper right - "Props" - "Barrels" and place a barrel on the ground. Left click it and press "P" on your keyboard to get to the barrel’s properties, go to colors there and change it to any color you want, that will unlock
    Fresh Paint

Modify the COLOR, MATTE/METALLIC, or MATERIALS properties of an object.

  4. Go to the "+" icon on the upper right - "Gameplay" - "Weapons" - "UNSC" - "Rocket Launchers" and put a SPKNR (Standard) on the ground, go back and to "Battlerifles", place a Halo 2 BR on the ground, go back and to "Magnums", place a Halo 1 Magnum on the ground.
  5. Go to the "Globe-icon" on the upper right, scroll down to "Referenced colors" and change it to something else, that will give you:
    Palette of Beauty

Change the Reference Color of any category in Forge Mode.

  6. Go to the "+" icon on the upper right - "Extras" - "Cameras/Animations", place a camera somewhere on the map, place an animation location somewhere on the map.
  7. Go to the "+" icon on the upper right - "Props" - "Boxes" and place a box on the ground. Now click the box and press CTRL+D on your keyboard to duplicate the box until you have 50-60 boxes. (Either count or take a look at "Objects" counter in the bottom right.)
  8. Now press "ESC" on your keyboard and save the map and give it a name that you will recognize, because we will need it later. This will get you all the achievements mentioned above, that didn't unlock immediately:

There is an error in the achievement description of the "Setting the Stage" achievement.

It reads "Create a Forge Map with 50 or more Props." but if you look at it in the Win 10 Xbox App it shows it actually is "Create 50 Forge Maps with 50 or more Props each."

Seems like a pain doesn’t it? Luckily it isn’t. CTRL+S also saves your map. And every save you make, of a map with at least 50 props, counts towards this achievement. So what you want to do is left click your box and press CTRL+D to duplicate it,after you did that, press CTRL+S to save your "new map". So what this comes down to is more or less just spamming CTRL+D and CTRL+S alternately until you get the achievement.

It didn’t unlock for me somehow but after I restarted the game and checked on the Win10 Xbox App I saw it had unlocked without popping up so check that if it doesn’t pop for you! You now have:

Setting the Stage

Create 50 Forge Maps with 50 or more Props each.

Back out to the main menu now and go to "Forge" - "My Data" and select the map you just saved. Choose custom game and a game mode, I used griffball but it shouldn't matter. Now start the match and once you can move press "ESC" and quit. This will get you:

Test Run

Play a Custom Game by yourself on a map you created.

From the main menu, go to "Forge" - "Most liked", click any map (maps are the blue ones, check the legend on the right) and bookmark it. If doesn’t pop then, try to remove and add the bookmark again or to like it. You will get:

What's Yours is Mine

Bookmark another player's map.

For the last achievement you can do solo you need to create a screenshot of your map, so first make sure you have Game DVR activated. To check go to the Win10 Xbox App and go to settings on the bottom of the taskbar to the left. There go to Game DVR and make sure its activated.

Now go back to the game and load up your map. Once you can forge again, press the Windowskey+G on your keyboard and a little window should pop up. Press the icon that looks like a camera to take a screenshot. Quit the game and go back to the Xbox App and to your Game DVR (below achievements in the left sidebar) to upload your screenshot. After that’s done go back to the game. From the main menu go to "My Data" select your map and under owner click "Link screenshot" - "PC", select your screenshot, save it and close it, now you have:

Capped

Attach a screenshot to your Forge Map.

That’s all, off to the multiplayer now!

Now let’s start working on the achievements, that require additional people.

I'd advise you to get a group via a session, for three of them and to team up with a single person to knock out the rest together.

Once you found your partner to do the ones you can finish with two people, go to the bottom right of the main menu and to your friends, there you can invite him to a fireteam. After that’s done, go to "Forge" - "Build" and then load any Map. It'll put you and the friend in your fireteam into the map, where you both can forge together, unlocking:

Friendly Forging

Start a Forge session with another player.

Friendly Forging
2 guidesOnline Game ModeCooperative

Now go back to the main menu, "Forge" - "My Data" and select a map you created, if you followed the walkthrough, just choose the one we made in "Solo Achievements".

Here choose "Play custom game", the game mode should be Showdown, but if it isn't change it to that and change the properties of the game mode in the game mode options to "15 points to win" (10 would also be enough, but you need to get 7 headshots, so I set it to 15) and the spawn timer to 1s for convenience (at the respawn tab), also deactivate the visibility check (also at the respawn tab).

Now start the match and it will load the map for you and your partner.

Once the map has loaded and you both can play, you want to kill your friend 15 times without dying, make sure that at least 7 out of those 15 kills are headshots. After you reached 15 kills and won the match you will unlock three achievements for getting 7 headshots, winning with a 10+ kills/death ratio and by winning a 1v1 match on a map you authored, make sure to let your partner do the same to earn the both of you:

Hats Off

Get 7 headshot kills in a single Custom Game.

Back at the main menu, load up another one of your own or your partner’s maps. The game mode and everything else is not important. Just load up any custom game like in the previous step and make sure it’s a map one of you two authored. After it started and both of you can play, just press ESC and quit the match. If nobody got any kills it will be a draw and luckily for us, a draw counts as a win, too.

Do this a total of 25 times and both of you will get:

Nice Work Dawg!

Win 25 Custom Games.

Nice Work Dawg!
2 guidesOnline Game ModeVersusCumulative +

There is also an achievement for doing this a total of 117 times, but as it requires you to just finish 117 matches and not win you can also do this solo. If you want to do it with you partner just continue the previous step until you both have it and if you want to do it solo, the same steps apply, just without inviting a friend to your fireteam in the first place.

After you did it 117 times, with a friend or solo you'll finally unlock:

Running Riot

Complete 117 Custom Games on player created maps.

Running Riot
2 guidesOnline/OfflineSingle PlayerVersusCumulative +

Now off to the tricky part, where you need 7 other people. You need 3, 4 and 7 people respectively so it is smart to get 7 people and knock all of them out at once while you are at it and have a group going.

Once you have your group together make sure you add them all as a friend. Like all games that require Xbox Friends, its best to send the friend request via an Xbox 360 or the xbox.com website and not via the Xbox App or the Xbox One. The first achievement we're going to get is for being in a fireteam with three friends. This can be a little tricky to get to pop but here are three things you can try to get it:

  1. In the main menu invite 3 or more people to your fireteam and load up a custom game like you did before and quit it right away like if you want to do the wins in the other step.
  2. If it didn’t pop after you finished the game, try to invite only 3 people to your fireteam and do the same.
  3. If it still didn’t work out for you start a costume game by yourself without anyone in your fireteam and let the other people join you via their “friends” tab from the main menu. If it won’t unlock for someone let him host and repeat those 3 steps.

Everybody should now have:

Squad Goals

Be in a Fireteam of 4 or more.

Squad Goals
3 guidesOnline Game ModeVersusPlayers Required4 Players RequiredBuggy -

In order to give everybody the last two achievement left, host a custom game on a map you made yourself, with 8 players. Just invite them to your fireteam and load up a custom game on YOUR OWN map like always. After this one everybody should unlock:

Community

Complete a Custom Game with 7 other players on a user created map.

Community

And after that, everybody will host a custom game once with at least 5 players total in a single match, on a map they made, so everybody will earn:

Playtest

Complete a 4+ player Custom Game on a map you created.

Playtest

And that’s it! Congrats for bringing 8 people together to knock out those last three achievements, you earned yourself another 1000G!

Hope you enjoyed this walkthrough and I hope I'll see you next time.
