Virginia

Introduction.

Welcome! This is my first guide for TrueAchievements, and today we will be tackling “Virginia.” I hope this guide helps you out.

The debut game by Variable State, this game is the definition of a walking simulator. Thus, although critically well received, Virginia is polarising – you will most likely love it or hate it.

For me, Virginia was a quintessential gaming experience that I enjoyed greatly. I think the story is engaging and thought provoking, with a lot packed into its implicit, multi-faceted layers of ambiguity. Its musical score is gorgeous, and the game possesses a unique form of narrative delivery that absolutely serves a game with minimalistic gameplay mechanics. If you are looking for developing gameplay, this game is not for you. If you are looking for a true narrative experience, then I would highly suggest giving this a go. This game doesn't make you do much, rather think and feel instead.

Achievement-wise (which is what, I presume, most of you are here for), this game is a 2.5/10 in difficulty, in my humble opinion. It’s really pretty easy, but most achievements are missable, so you will need to pay attention to avoid unnecessary playthroughs--hence the existence of this guide!

Achievements and the walkthrough.

  • Play the game through once on your own without this guide unless you want a lot of spoilers. It's pretty difficult to tip-toe around the story-line at times because so much is missable and requires things done at exact moments. So if you wish to avoid the game being spoiled I recommend you play the game through once and just enjoy the ride.
  • Achievement / Collectible Overview:
    • A lot of achievements are highly missable. The descriptions are extremely vague and cryptic and you will not figure them out on your own. Although all achievements are pretty easy, most achievements are also pretty unique in that they require picking up items early in the game and not using them until much later, which isn’t overly common in other titles. I’ll make this clear during the guide at each point, signifying when a missable achievement related item is due in the scene prior to it. So don’t worry – if you follow this, you won’t miss anything.
    • Collectibles: There are 20 collectibles – 10 Flowers, and 10 feathers. They are numbered and written in order in this walkthrough. The game can be quite dark and there are no brightness options. Bear this in mind when searching for them.
    • Collectibles Achievements: There are 4 achievements related to collectibles (2 for finding 1 flower and 1 feather, 2 for finding all flowers and all feathers). They will not trigger, however, upon collection. You need to view them in your apartment before they trigger. I’ll point this out as and when it is necessary.
  • Playthrough 1: The 1st playthrough requires that you complete the game in ONE single sitting (i.e. you must play from start to back in one sitting without closing the game) so set aside 2 hours to do this. One sitting is required to unlock "Red Night." You must also watch the end credits to unlock "Ariadne" (credits are an option in the main menu, but I can neither confirm nor deny whether this will trigger this achievement.) We will also be using this play through to get all (but 1) of the achievements (16 out of 17).
  • Playthrough 2: The 2nd playthrough requires you to simple complete the game a second time to unlock "Doam", which should be your last achievement. Again, I recommend you do this in one sitting. This playthrough will be even shorter, and it has been reported the achievement doesn't pop if not done in one sitting. If for some reason you skipped the credits after Playthrough 1, watch them through here instead.
  • Triggering Scenes: Take things slow, and if you are stuck (unlikely), don’t interact with anything until you get your bearings. A scene generally only moves on to the next when you interact with a story item, or walk to a certain point. I usually capitalize things that are easy to miss, or when not to move and check something missable first.
  • Scene change notice: The game is very cinematic and does not progress like most games. It’s created through a series of vignette-like scenes where you do something, and it skips to the next. This can be forward in time or to an alternate dream-like state. It is not a level by level kind of game. I will signify a change in scene with the notice Scene change. There are dozens upon dozens upon dozens, and the closest things to “chapters.”

Playthrough 1:

After the opening credits, you will begin by looking into a mirror. Look to you right and down to see a blue clutch bag. Open it. Press cn_A to pick up the lipstick.

Turn around, exit the bathroom and go down the long corridor with green carpet and brown walls. Ignore any of the doors, and head to the very end where there will be an open door. Proceed through, and you will encounter a queue of suited workers by an area illuminated red. Queue behind them, and move 1 by 1 as the queue gets smaller. When gestured to, go to the stage yourself. Shake his hand and claim your FBI card.

Scene change

Immediately after this, you will be in the same auditorium, but now it is dark and completely empty. Turn around 180 degrees, and under the FBI logo, press the recorder so it stops.

Scene change

You’ll now be in your apartment. Go through the door into the open room with loads of cardboard boxes. Go through the door in front of you to the bedroom, and interact with the girl on the bed. Turn around, and you’ll see a red light coming from a grated door. The door will slam.

Scene change

You’ll be in bed. Turn off the alarm. You’ll then be able to get up. Go ahead to the bathroom (it’s opposite the bed.) Look in the mirror, close it and the scene will partially change to you being dressed. Pick up the lipstick again, and your character will bin it. Pick up your FBI badge, and exit the bathroom. Exit your bedroom. Move directly ahead and exit the apartment. Turn right and head towards the exit sign.

*PAUSE NOW AND READ NEXT SCENE; Missable Achievement*

Scene change

There is a highly missable achievement here called “Aleph”. All you have to do is whilst in the taxi keep looking to your right (about 45-60 degrees) and AS SOON as you see a sign keep looking at it the entire time. If done properly, you should unlock “Aleph” (can sometimes trigger after the “First Day” screen so don’t immediately panic”)

MONDAY (FIRST DAY)

Scene change

You’ll be in an elevator. As soon as possible, exit and move straight ahead (follow the navy lining in the carpet) to a brown door directly opposite at the far end of the room. Enter this room, and head to the other brown door opposite. You’ll be in a swanky large office. Sit in the red chair opposite the man's desk, and pick up the file he throws you. He features in the game a lot, and is called McCarran. I will refer to him as such from now on.

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You’ll be in the elevator again, going down this time. As soon as you exit, you need to pick up the glasses on the red chair that is slightly to your left as you exit. We need these for an achievement that is much, much later on in the game. The glasses are also red, so they can be kind of hard to see. Turn around (as if you were to go right from the elevator instead of left like we just did) and head down the corridor. Turn left at the forked corridor.

Scene change

You’ll be at a stairwell with white and green walls. DON'T MOVE. Before heading down the stairs, a sneaky (and your first) collectible feather (#1/10) will be directly behind you. Now, head down the stairs. (note: this is the only collectible where you return to its area later on. However, I cannot confirm nor deny whether it's possible to pick it up then if you miss it here).

Scene change

After a while, the scene will transform so you’re in the basement with pipes running overhead. Follow the linear path. Enter the door to the office to see a woman by some files. She will feature a lot, and her name is Maria Halperin (I refer to her as Halperin from now on). Move to the right hand side, and grab the red sunglasses case off of the top of the cabinet. This is for the same achievement as the glasses, which is towards the end of the game. You can do this later, but I’d recommend getting this out of the way now. After that, interact with Halperin in the opposite corner by the other filing cabinet. She will pull out a red file after a while, and grab her bag.

* PAUSE NOW AND READ NEXT SCENE; Highly Missable Achievement*

Scene change

As soon as you are in the car, immediately interact with the car radio (between the two dials in the centre dashboard.) You have a matter of seconds to do this, as when the oncoming car passes you it will be too late as the scene will change! This will pop “Flea”. It took an age for me to pop, up to a minute! So again, do not panic! As long as the radio is triggered, it will definitely unlock eventually.

Scene change

The scene will change and you will eventually enter a tunnel. Nothing to really do here. Eventually, you’ll pull up to the right. Note: the last achievement, “Flea” didn’t pop for me until here!

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

As soon as you’re in the coffee shop, grab a sugar packet from the left hand side of your table (by the ketchup & mustard). You need this for an achievement later. When the waitress drops the bill, pick it up and look at it for a few seconds.

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

The scene will move to you outside someone’s door, holding a missing person’s sign (Lucas Fairfax). Make sure you show your ID to the priest when he opens the door (by clicking on the priest.) There is another missable item here when inside. Walk forward and into the hallway by the kitchen (between 2 cops). Go to the first room on the left (opposite the kitchen) and to the bin in the right corner. Grab the piece of paper from the bin. Exit, and move further down this corridor into a bathroom on the next right (it will have a yellow tiling floor, and is adjacent to the open plan kitchen). You will find feather (#2/10) quite clearly on the floor. Turn around and back out, then go into the room opposite. Open the closet in this bedroom, and push aside the clothes. The right panel in this closet will unlock a secret darkroom with hanging photographs. Enter, and pick up the diary on your left (by the guitar) as you enter, with "Lucas" on the front.

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You’ll be in the car, driving at night, and a buffalo will run into the road. A slight scene change will occur, you being further down the road and pulling into a gas station. You have some time, but you need to grab some stuff for later achievements. Look to the driver side visor (adjacent to/left of the central driving mirror if you don’t drive) Interact with it to open, and then close it. Nothing here. Then do the same to your visor directly above you. You’ll find a menu for Big Rico’s. Pick it up, as you do need it for the same achievement as the sugar packets. Look in your glove compartment directly in front of you to find some letters. This is mandatory, so make sure you do it last, in case it triggers the event in the next sentence. After these 3 interactions, you’ll see a car pull up alongside you to your right. They’ll be a bit rude, and then drive off.

Scene change

You’ll be back on the road. You’ll hear a thud. As soon as you’re back in control, reclaim your case with the files in it.

TUESDAY

Scene change

You’ll be on a bed. Pick up the Lucas book we picked up in the house that is to your left. Open it, and pick up the brochure. Turn the pages in the book, and you’ll see a drawing of a cave.

Scene change

You’ll see someone that looks like (or is) yourself on the bed. Next to the door you will need to exit is a cork board with the feather you have collected pinned to it (there should be 2 at this point). Look at if for a few moments until “Beatrice” pops. This is for gaining 1 feather. It's up to you if you do this now or later. Don’t worry too much as we’ll have to do this once we have all 10 to trigger the collectible achievements anyway.

Scene change

You’ll be back in the house. Go down the same hallway we did before, and go to the end with the red illuminated door.

Scene change

You’ll be back in car, but with McCarran this time. Nothing to do here for a moment.

Scene change

Scene immediately changes so you’re back in the apartment, and on the bed. To your right you will see the Buffalo again.

Scene change

You’ll be in the elevator again, and an elderly man will enter with you.

Scene change

You will then jump from the bottom of the elevator to the basement. When in the basement. DO NOT go into Halperin's office opposite you yet. Instead, head to your left, around the corner, and look to your right in the area with cardboard boxes and a green vacuum for a feather (#3/10). This one is one of the most (if not the most) difficult to see; a reference point is that it is pretty much opposite the green vacuum cleaner propped against the wall, and between the boxes and the steel wheelie bins. Spam cn_A if you really can't find it. Go back to Halperin’s office we missed before. If you did not pick the red sunglasses case up before, DO SO NOW. It will be your last opportunity to do so. Then go over to the central table and grab the pendant. Open it, and put it down. Halperin will walk to the door. Follow her, and move down the hall.

Scene change

You will be in the car, parking up at the caves we saw in Lucas’ drawing a little while ago. We will be picking up our first 3 flowers in this area. As with the feathers, and virtually everything else, they are missable and once you move on to the next scene they are gone forever. As soon as we drop down in the field, you should notice a purple flower (#1/10). Head toward the fence the other end of the field, and you should see a tallish tree in the right corner. To the right of the tree (pretty close to the rocks) is a pink flower (#2/10). Move your camera left and walk directly forwards towards the cave. As you do so, you should see 4 or 5 smaller rocks on the ground to your left in the distance. The rightmost one has a white flower (#3/10) by it. Pick it up. Head into the cave by it, and follow the linear path until you see a red/white hat on an armchair. Pick this up (don't think you need it but better to be safe, and is more of an Easter egg). Move on, and you will see Halperin by some wooden planks blocking a birdcage. Open up this area by interacting with the planks. Open the bird cage and pick up your cute new buddy. Give him/her to Halperin, and the shortest friendship ever will come to an end.

*PAUSE NOW AND READ NEXT SCENE; Missable Achievement*

Scene change

You will wake with a coffee cup being offered to you. Just keep drinking it, over and over, until “Madam” unlocks, which requires you to sip your coffee an unspecified amount of times. For me it took 3 times, but you should be able to sip it a minimum of 6 which will definitely be enough. Shake the officer’s hand.

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

In this next section, DO NOT TOUCH THE BIRD YET. It will trigger the next scene and you will miss a collectible AND an achievement related item. Move to the top left corner and grab the wooden piece by the glue on a surface. You will need this for an achievement that is at the very end of the game. Rotate to your right 90 degrees and move to the white unit in the top right corner as you entered. On the floor by it, just a touch before it, should be a feather (#4/10). Now you are welcome to interact with the bird. It’ll fly away. Turn around.

Scene change

You’ll be back in the field (there are no flowers to worry about this time.) Go to the cave, which will now have police tape on it. Then speak to the man in the black top and beige pants/trousers by a random lady. This seems to be the same guy who flipped you off earlier, and he’ll be a d**k again. A cinematic will play. Go over to him and pat him down. In his left pocket grab the knife, in the right grab his wallet.

Scene change

These two items will now be in front of you. Put the evidence in the bag. A matchbook will contain suspicious looking tabs (I’ll let you decipher what they are…). Go ahead and put it in a red envelope.

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT & ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You’ll be in the apartment, turnaround and pick up a flyer. You’ll need this later for an achievement. Move towards the computer on the left side of the open plan and you should see some open drawers in the kitchen right next to the stove, with sugar packets in it (like the ones we picked up earlier), and pizza boxes on the worktop. Look at both the shelf and the boxes for a few moments, and this should unlock “Meda”. This will not have unlocked if we did not a) grab the sugar packet and b) grab the pizza menu at the gas station.

Now head to the bedroom. On the bedside to the right of the bed (the left from your POV) pick up the envelope and the FBI pass. Go to bed.

WEDNESDAY

Scene change

Wednesday is pretty linear, with lots of cinematic transitions until you arrive at an observatory. Pick up the hat when prompted.

Scene change

Move (extremely slowly) towards a burning fireplace with missing signs by it. The scene will change so it is blue, not on fire, with the poor birdie inside it. Pick it up, and it will disappear.

Scene change

You’ll be at McCarran’s desk. Nothing to do here.

Scene change

You’ll be at your computer. Keep spamming cn_A to go through the searches. There is nothing specific you have to do here, it’s all scripted, just keep pressing cn_A

Scene change

You’ll have the letters you took from the car in your hand, now. You’ll then revert back to the computer. Keep pressing cn_A, as in the above scene.

Scene change

You’ll now be in a different location, with a computer/projector/film thingy. Pick up the blue film reel and put it in the projector. Turn the wheel on the right of the projector, and keep doing it when it stops. You need to do this 2 or 3 times. Once you get to a photo of Halperin’s relative, J Ortega, the scene will change for a moment, with Halperin in front of you and a flashback. It will then take you back to the projector. Switch it off.

Scene change

You seem to like coffee a lot, because you’re back in the coffee shop/diner again. A man will put a badge on the table. Nothing else to do here, really. Look at the brochure when prompted.

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

After 5 minutes of just story, we will now return to the achievement/collectible hunt so be alert. You’ll be in Halperin’s car heading to the observatory in the brochure earlier. You’ll enter it. As soon as you enter, to your left will be an orange flower (#4/10). DO NOT GO UPSTAIRS YET. Instead go to Halperin, and past her you’ll see some whitish green panels and small wood board fragments on the floor. Tucked in the corner by there is a Sun pin. Pick it up. This is for an achievement later on. A reference point is that it is to the left of the wooden column mostly straight ahead when passing Halperin. Feel free to go up the stairs now. It’ll mini jump the scene to the top of the observatory. You’ll hide, and see some familiar faces.

*ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCK OF PREVIOUSLY PICKED UP ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You’ll be back at the front door of the house of said familiar faces now. You and Halperin will pick the lock. Once you enter, go to the kitchen and look at a piece of white paper on the table. Interact with it. This is where the note you picked up from the dustbin on MONDAY comes into play, as only by picking that up will this white piece of paper on the table trigger an achievement, called “Iris”.

After it pops, go to the room at the end of the hall, and you’ll reach the priest's office quarters. When you enter, DON'T MOVE FORWARD JUST YET, instead you’ll (barely) see a feather (#5/10) directly to your left on the floor. Now you can go to the desk. Look in the drawers on the right side to find a brown envelope/file.

*MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You’ll approach a bar with Halperin. As soon as a mini scene shift triggers you to be inside, DON'T MOVE FORWARD. Look at your feet to find a feather (#6/10). Walk forward and talk to Halperin. She’ll give you a ring. Enter the bar. AGAIN, DO NOT MOVE FORWARD AND DO NOT SIT AT THE TABLE WITH HER YET. Directly to your right when entering is a red bandana. You will need this for a later achievement. Now you can sit down, opposite the performers, and put the ring on your finger so the guy shoves it. Watch them play for a while.

Scene change

Some cinematics will occur. You’ll then be drinking from a balcony. Nothing to do here, and the day will end.

THURSDAY

Scene change

You’ll wake up in a new house. Go to the door in front of you and try to open it (it’s locked.) Turn around, go down the stairs past the open door, and into the first room on your left. In front of you, between the clothes rack on the left and some boxes should be a feather (#7/10). It’s on the floor, and is one of the more obvious ones. Pick it up. Exit the room, continue down the path and in the next door is a hospital bed. Touch it. Exit this room. Go down the stairs, and sit at the worktop for breakfast. Open the box with film in it to your left.

Scene change

You’ll be in a darkroom/bathroom, developing film. Soak it in formula. Then put it in the appropriate tray, look at the photo, and talk to Halperin.

* MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT RELATED ITEM IN NEXT SCENE & ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCK OF PREVIOUSLY PICKED UP ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You’ll be interrogating the priest at the FBI. Turn around 180 degree and to your left, in the corner, is a feather (#8/10). If you’re struggling, just spam cn_A in all of the room corners. After collecting the feather, DO NOT FOLLOW THE PRIEST THROUGH THE NEXT DOOR IMMEDIATELY TO YOUR RIGHT. Instead, go the opposite way and you’ll see a fire hydrant in the right corner. By it is the Moon Pin. Pick it up. Combined with the Sun Pin, you should unlock “Ganesha”

If it doesn’t, there is really no need to worry as we will have another two easier opportunities for this. In fact its likely it won't trigger, a couple of friends of mine didn't get this here. I thought I'd just note it just in case. Either way, look at the photograph.

Scene change

In this scene, you’ll be at the place of the above photograph. Look through the file in your hand of Halperin. Close it, and put it in your bag when she comes back with coffee. Move over and let her in. Pick up your coffee and drink it. Then grab your sandwich.

Scene change

The scene will change to dusk. You’ll be moving forward in the car with Halperin, eventually arriving at the observatory.

Scene change

You’ll arrive at the gas station. Fill up the car. Grab the buffalo stuffed animal when needed. She’ll open the door, and your spying will be exposed. Awkward.

Scene change

You’ll be in the office area now. Move forward. At the fork, move left again.

Scene change

You’ll skip to the stairwell again. Move down the stairwell.

Scene change

Basement again. Move to Halperin’s office.

Scene change

You’ll warp back to the opening stage sequence, then to the office where you are given the Halperin file.

Scene change

A scene in Halperin’s house will occur, then you will be at the gas station with the Buffalo in front of you. Pick up the birdy at this point. This will end THURSDAY.

FRIDAY

*POSSIBLE ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCK OF PREVIOUSLY PICKED UP ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You have another opportunity for “Lemon” here. From research, you are most likely to trigger it here and I strongly recommend you do stare at her here, but you technically have one more opportunity to do so after this. Again, remember that you needed to pick the red bandana up or she will not be wearing it.

Scene change

You’ll be in a taxi. Some scenes will flashback during the journey, and a cinematic will play of you turning the taxi around.

Scene change

You will now be back in the field for the third time for probably the longest sequence in the game, where we’ll be picking up all 6 remaining flowers. Immediately at your feet when dropping down will be a blue flower (#5/10). Move to the right wall of the field to a downed log, where you will notice a light pink flower (#6/10). Move over to the entrance of the cave, covered in tape, and in the top corner by the top fence (and by a small sign) will be a red flower (#7/10). Rotate right 90 degrees, and hug the fence, walking over to the bigger fallen tree (which was the reference point of a previous flower the last time we were in the field.) Interact and climb across the tree. When you land, DO NOT ENTER THE SEWER YET. To the left, midway between your spawn and the sewer entrance is an orange flower (#8/10). Feel free to go through the sewer now, and a red light will emerge. Follow it to the end, where there is a metal grate. DO NOT TOUCH THE PENDANT ON THE ROCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS AREA. It would trigger the next scene and you’ll miss the last 2 collectibles! Proceed down the slope, and hug the rocks on the left hand side, and keep hugging it around. On the ground by this rock wall is a very hard to see yellow flower (#9/10). Spam cn_A as it might take a while to find it. Turn around, and move forward. You should see a standalone rock in the middle of the field. Behind it is a purple/white flower (#10/10). You now have all the flowers, but don’t panic, as your achievement will NOT unlock until you’re back at the apartment. Like all collectible achievements, it only triggers when you look at a cork board. Now, finally, you can interact with the pendant on this same rock.

Scene change

You’ll be drinking in an almost empty bar. Interact with the pendant. It will zoom in on the pendant

Scene change

As soon, as you are in the elevator, DO NOT MOVE FORWARD. Look under your feet for a feather (#9/10). Move down the hall directly ahead, then up the stairs, and into a door on the left with “Mrs. J. Ortega” on it. Rattle the handle, then pick the door's lock. Inside, go up the stairs, and then up another. You’ll reach the bathroom that was padlocked earlier. Lock pick this. Enter. Inside this room, you should see a projector in front of you. If you go to your left and then further back, you’ll see a cork board with a familiar face on it. Then grab the files.

*ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCK OF PREVIOUSLY PICKED UP ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

You’ll have the file in your hand in an elevator. You’ll then mildly skip to the office where a secretary is at her desk. Hard to miss, but keep looking at her. This is the reason we picked up the glasses and the case earlier in the game. An achievement called “Toet” should pop here.

Scene change

You’ll be ascending a ladder on a tower. As soon as you reach the top, DON’T MOVE. There will be a feather (#10/10) very slightly to your right which should be your final one. Spam cn_A if you can't see it, as it is very dark.

Again, the achievement won’t pop here – you need to look at the same corkboard we looked at earlier again when we go back to the apartment (which is very soon, now.) If you have all 10 flowers and all 10 feathers at this point, you have got every collectible you need.

Anyway, follow the linear path to Halperin. Let the cinematic(s) happen.

SATURDAY (FINAL DAY)

*MANY ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKS OF PREVIOUSLY PICKED UP ITEMS AND COLLECTIBLES IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

This is the last time you’ll wake up in the apartment, and you will be getting a fair few achievements here (4, to be exact, or as many as 5 if you did not look at the feather cork board earlier.) You’ll see McCarran on your bed. Then, when you get out of bed and hear the buzzer, just ignore it for a while. DO NOT TRIGGER THE FRONT APARTMENT DOOR. You will miss out on 4-5 achievements. On the left after waking up you should see flowers in bottles/vases. Stare at it to unlock “Fever” for all flowers and “Mausoleum” for collecting one. This is probably the only opportunity you have to do this. You should unlock both.

Then go over the feather cork board we examined before. There should be 10 feathers on here, now. Go over to it and stare at it for a while to unlock “Paris.” It will also unlock“Beatrice” if you, for some reason, did not look at the board earlier with only 2 feathers on it.

Paris

A bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter

Strictly for the birds

Go into the main room. In the middle of it is a truck in a box. This will unlock “Dead Road”. To get this, we needed to pick up that flyer I pointed out earlier which is behind you a bit.

Dead Road

Along comes the driver, Pulls the little lever. Puff, puff! Chuff, chuff! Off we go!

NOW you can open the front door, and let the sequence happen.

Scene change

You’ll be in a jail cell. Go to the bed and you’ll fall asleep. Wake up, and you’ll see Halperin opposite. Fall asleep again. Wake up, and Halperin will still be there but sleeping. Will fade out a third time. Halperin will still be there, sleeping, but turned over. Look at the broken key in your hand. Bang on the cell door.

Side note: Unlike the rest of the guide, I am not going to do a scene by scene for 5-10 minutes as it is so linear. For a little while, it goes from scene to scene very often, and is the most “artsy”, confusing portion of the game. There is not much achievement wise to do here, and not much to do at all, so pay attention, because the story gets confusing here. It’s more of a non-linear, back-and-forth delivery of an alternate version of events.

I’ll pick this guide up again at the scene where you return to the jail cell with Halperin sleeping, and you giving her pendant back.

Scene change

Back in the jail cell, go to the mirror and take a tab (do not do this in real life, please.) A brick will fall out of the wall. Go up to it and interact. Then wait for the elevator to emerge, and enter it. The game gets weird (in a good way) from here.

Scene change

The elevator takes you outside to a field. You’ll enter the cave again, except it’s much different this time. Follow the linear path for a long, long while. Eventually, you’ll reach a pit you must fall down. Do so. Then walk towards the glowing red/orange door. Proceed through the candlelit corridor to the opened doors and approach the, um, ceremony? Approach the buffalo. You’ll see familiar faces poorly masqueraded behind masks. Stop the person with the knife. The scene will suddenly shift.

*ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCK OF PREVIOUSLY PICKED UP ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

You should unlock your last miscellaneous achievement here. If you cast your mind back to when the bird had died, and I told you not to interact with its body on the table, we picked up a wooden piece by some glue. It is needed for here. The piece will be on the front of the ship, and an achievement will automatically pop if you did this, called “Benway”.

Benway

The true ship is the ship-builder

After this, it is just story here on out! You also have one more chance for “Lemon” if needed, but you should have it by now.

Scene change

Interact with the ship and Taft will get mad.

Scene change

In the photo booth insert the coin. Then outside, collect your photos. Except they aren’t you…Swipe aside the curtains.

*FINAL POSSIBLE ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCK OF PREVIOUSLY PICKED UP ITEM IN NEXT SCENE*

Scene change

Coffee Shop, for the millionth time. Drink your coffee, and add something for extra spice. If you STILL haven’t got “Lemon”, now is your final chance to do so. Look at the waitress with the red bandana if you still need this; this is virtually the end of the game now, so we’re almost done and will not have any more chances to do so. Interact with the baby.

Lemon

Susan's checked between the booths and under the counter, but where she left it is anyone's guess

Side note: After this point I’m not going to do a scene-by scene guide. There is only 5 or so minutes left and there are no achievements remaining except for completing the game, watching the credits and doing a second playthrough. Everything is very linear from here on. It’s also very story intensive, and the pacing of not having any collectibles/achievements at its conclusion is something I think is very clever.

After completing the game you MUST watch the credits. At the end, when Virginia comes on the screen and the background is now white, you will unlock both "Red night" (One Sitting) and "Ariadne".

Red Night

There are no passengers on spaceship earth. We are all crew.

Playthrough 2:

If you followed this guide exactly, then you should have 16 of the 17 achievements and should simply need to play through the game once more for “Doam” You can follow the guide if you wish, but you do not need to do any of the collectibles, misc. tasks or achievement related things (unless you missed something, of course.) Literally just speed run the game and do the minimum required. Will probably take you about 1hr 15m. After this, you should unlock “Doam”, which should also complete your 1000G.

Doam

Bis!
