Tacoma

Welcome to the Tacoma walkthrough. Tacoma is a relatively short walking simulator/sci-fi adventure that will take about 2 hours to complete if you’re diving into the story, or just an hour if you’re playing point-to-point with this walkthrough.

First up, if you’re here playing on Windows 10, you might not unlock any achievements. I played through the game once on Win10 and didn’t unlock a single achievement, and judging by the forum at least one other person has had the same experience. We might just have been unlucky, but I’m flagging it up so you’re forewarned. Our first achievement comes about five minutes in though, so if you want to take a chance then it won’t be too long before you find out for yourself. Your progress does carry over too so you can play through on PC and unlock things on Xbox (as I did accidentally), but I don’t see much use in that.

Secondly, I would recommend you play through this game at first without the use of a walkthrough. As the completion is so short, you won’t lose a lot of time doing so and it’s a pretty enjoyable story if you give it the time to go through organically. In writing this, I won’t be focusing on a full story-based playthrough, so I will list all the keycodes in the body of the walkthrough rather than showing you to where you find them.

With all that said, let’s get started.

As with most walking simulators, the controls are pretty simple. Use cn_A to interact with and/or pick up objects and cn_X to unlock the AR recordings from around the station. At various points through your journey, you'll receive messages from Venturi Technologies (a little V-T icon pops up on screen). To read these, press cn_back to bring up your desktop and let the message load. I've included the rough timings of these appearing in the walkthrough text, but you're also completely able to leave them until the end and read all nine before completing the game.

The achievements are divided up with about 250GS being unlocked while you're on the station itself, and the other 750GS being unlocked for finishing the game with the collectibles all discovered. Most of the locations for things are fairly obvious, but I've included images for three collectibles which are a bit harder to spot (particularly the ring).

If you don't unlock any of the following before launching your ship at the very end of the game:

Then turn back into the station to complete the requirements. The other five achievements only unlock after the end of the credits - however, you can just press continue and go back into the ship to explore and find your missing collectibles.

In the walkthrough, I mention looking at the book messages as they come in too. I don't believe this is essential as a collectible, however I unlocked the V-T message achievement on my first run while also reading all of these, so I have included them as a precaution. Feel free to skip them if you want to risk it.

If you're playing through naturally, you'll probably encounter most of the AR Data and Workstations without trying, however there are two that are easily missable. One is in the Observation module (at the end of the Zero-G section, opposite docking), the other is in the showers that you can find through a door in the Locker Room (Personnel Module). I missed both of these in my first run through, so even if you don't want to use the walkthrough in its entirety, be sure to get these.

Tacoma

After the initial docking cutscene, you'll be given control of Amy in the ship. Go forward down the corridor and interact with the door handle to open the airlock door. At the end of the corridor is a button to open another door into Tacoma station. Go through, then open the box lid just a little ways in front of you. Take the ARdware and wait for the introduction video to tell you to place your hand on the figure. Do this, then sign in and you'll be transported into the Zero-G space station interior.

Once inside, head straight forward to the Biomedical module of this space. On the rotating module are two basketball hoops and our first opportunity for an achievement. Next to the scoreboard, hit the switch for the three-point line. This will bring up two spheres around the hoops. You want to shoot a basket outside of the three point line. Grab the ball (normally floating somewhere in the centre) and move to the wall of the module, facing a hoop so the spin of the ship is bringing it towards you. Stay outside of the sphere, aim for the wall a bit below the hoop and then shoot. The ball should bounce off the wall and through the hoop - if you hit the ring like I did first time, just grab the ball and try again. When you're successful, you'll unlock:

From Downtown

Made a 3-point shot in micro-G basketball.

From Downtown

With that out of the way, head to the Personnel module. You should see a door that's unlocked (unlike the Biomedical one which was locked). Interact with the door and you'll travel down in a lift of sorts. This is a great opportunity to check your AR messages to start on the Venturi incoming messages achievement. Press cn_back to open your AR menu and then press the flashing V-T icon. Wait for the full message to load, then press the back button so you've read both messages. At the bottom of the shaft, you'll receive another V-T message, read this and then head down the only corridor available to you.

Personnel

After the turning, you'll see a red outline on the wall with some text reading "AI Data Access HERE". Interact here twice to install your book thing and start a data transfer. A message will start playing on the little screens. Wait for both messages to play out. Once they've displayed, go down the right corridor to Administration.

Walk through the door and keep going forward until you see the RECOVERABLE AR CREW RECORD DATA message on your screen. Press cn_X to recover the data and start the sequence playing. If you want to listen to the story, you can watch it play out and rewind it to catch bits you didn't hear the first time. If you just want the collectibles, pause the playback with cn_X and fast forward with cn_RB to the first question mark on the timeline on your screen. When you reach these question marks, a colour bubble pops up - this means that colour AR hologram has their AR menu open and you can recover some more data. The first one is the purple one in the Conference Room, to your right/behind you as you face the table after first entering. Go into the conference room, press cn_A on their AR desktop and then press on all four squares on screen.

We'll do this for all the holograms in this sequence, but first go to the door directly behind the administrator. Type 1228 into the keypad and head into the office. Interact with the desk and press the three icons at the bottom of the workstation window. Wait for them to load, then focus with cn_LT as you close each window with cn_A. After reading these, exit the office and head to the left corner of the room, near the calendar. On the chair, you'll see a pink-ish blob which will say "Housecat" as you hover over it. This is our first cat sighting for the Catsitter achievement (Catsitter 1/7).

Leave the conference room, go right around the corner and down stairs to the lounge. Pick up the M at the bottom of the stairs (on the left) and bring it back up to the table. Across the table is a half-finished sign. Add the M before the A on the wall (TACOMA), then pick up the wonky E and replace it after the C (OBSOLESCENCE). There's an E and an O on the floor under the sign that need to be returned (O before the M you've just added and the E to complete CREW) and the final O can be found the other side of the table in the lavatory (to the right with your back to the sign-wall). Pick up the O, add it to OBSOLESCENCE and then you'll unlock:

Spellcheck

Restored the Obsolescence Day sign.

We'll come back for the other AR records, so go through the door to the right of the sign, into the personal quarters of the Administrator. Inside, you'll get another recovery prompt. Press cn_X to recover it, then fast forward through the clip to the end. There's nothing else here, so head back to the party table. If you're following along with this, your next fast forward should bring up the Yellow AR Bubble. Go into the kitchen on the right and interact with his desktop. Press all four squares and then back out. Fast forward again to the Red AR Bubble. Red is at the table opposite the kitchen - go over, load their desktop and press the four squares. Fast forward a tiny bit more to bring up the Blue AR Bubble. Blue is next to Red at the table. Interact, press the squares and back out. Fast forward right to the end and then head back out to where your book is uploading.

Go up to the book and read the message that's loading. After it's finished, go down the other corridor to Operations. You should get another V-T message as you head on your way, open and read it fully. After you've read it, go through the door into Operations and down the stairs into the Cargo room. You should get the Recovery prompt as you enter, press cn_X. We're recovering these ones out of chronological order as I've found it's quicker to do this area room-by-room. Fast forward to the third question mark and the Orange AR desktop will appear in the Cargo room with you. Interact with it and unlock the four messages. That's it for Cargo, so go out of the room and right, into Laundry. In here, go to the middle of the room and look up to your right. On top of the pipes should be the next Housecat sighting (Catsitter 2/7).

Leave Laundry and go up the right set of stairs into the Fitness Center. Fast forward to the last AR Bubble on the timeline. This should leave you with the Green and Blue AR holograms with you near the door. Read both of their desktops fully, then proceed up the ramp towards the punching bag at the back of the Fitness Center (back right corner). Hit the bag until Amy starts breathing heavily to unlock:

Punch-Out!!

Go a full round with the punching bag in the Gym.

Turn left from the punch bag and go into the Locker Room. Go forward, then right into the Shower Room where there will be another Recovery prompt. Press cn_X, then go to the last cubicle where Red will have an AR desktop to read. Read everything, then fast forward to the end of the clip. Leave the Shower Room and find the yellow locker in front of you. Unlock the locker with the code 1407 and open it. At the bottom of the locker is a key, pick it up. Turn around and look for the blue locker. Enter the code 0315 and open the door. You don't need anything from this locker, so turn left and leave the Locker Room.

You'll come back out in the main bit of Operations. Turn right when you get to the pigeon holes and go down the corridor to the Office. As you head down here, rewind the AR clip back to the second question mark, the Yellow AR Bubble. As you enter the office, you'll see Yellow has his AR desktop open. Read everything on there, then go to the right to find his desk. Open the workstation up and read the three messages on here. Make sure you don't drop and forget the key doing all this. After the workstation has been read, leave the office and go left down the corridor.

At the end of the corridor, enter the Yellow Personal Quarters. You'll get a Recovery prompt, so press cn_X. While that's loading, go all the way left around the room and put the key into the red lock under the bunk. You don't need anything from the drawer, so turn around and interact with Yellow's AR desktop. Read everything, fast forward through the rest of the clip and then leave. Head all the way back out to your book where a red arrow will prompt you to collect it. Collect the book and return to the lift. Start the lift and then read the V-T message that you'll get by pressing cn_back.

IMPORTANT:

As you exit back into the Zero-G segment of the station, look to your left. You should see the Observation module door. Go through here and collect the AR Recovery data. It's just a video clip this time, so fast forward through it. This one is commonly missed, so make sure to grab it. After the clip is done, leave the Observation module and go to the Biomedical module - the next one over from Personnel. Head through the door and down the lift.

Biomedical

At the bottom of the lift, follow the corridor around through the door and plug your book into the wall straight ahead. Wait for the book messages to finish playing. Flick backwards and forwards through them just to be sure. We're now going to go left to Botany. Head through the doors and keep going forward until you get the AR Recovery prompt. Don't bother with this just yet. Instead, head right into the Personal Quarters. Here, you'll have some more AR Recovery to do. Press cn_X and grab the Green guy's desktop when it appears. Fast forward through the clip and then leave the quarters, the Blue medic is also here but doesn't have a desktop to recover.

Back in the centre of Botany, fast forward until Purple's desktop pops up. Get their data, then head anticlockwise around the room. Ignore the Tea Garden unless you're following the story. Go through the door to the Botanist Office/Food Supply and fast forward until the Blue AR Bubble comes up on the timeline. She should be stood right in front of you. Grab her AR desktop, which is a single photo, and then go into the room to the left (labelled "Protein Growth"). To the right of this room are two vats with cow labels on them. Above the rightmost one is the Housecat. Hover over it for Catsitter (Catsitter 3/7), then leave the Protein Growth room and head straight across the room into the Botanist Office. Activate the Workstation desk, read the three messages and then go back to the Botany central area.

As you leave the Office/Food area, look to your left. The final bit for this area is down the ramp you should be able to see. Follow it around and type 0281 into the keypad at the bottom. When the door opens, fast forward the clip until the Green AR Bubble is active, the Green hologram should be right in front of you. Get his AR desktop data as usual, then leave Botany and go back to your book. There are no new messages to read at this point, walk straight past the book and onward to Medical.

Pretty much as soon as you arrive in Medical you'll get an AR Recovery prompt. Recover the clip, then head directly left towards the Personal Quarters. Follow the corridor around, enter the room, and recover the next set of AR recordings. Access the Blue hologram desktop, then fast forward through the clip. When finished, head back to the centre of Medical. Go directly across the hub into Medical Storage. In the right hand corner, on the floor behind the table, is a hat. Pick it up and exit, going towards the crowd of AR holograms. Fast forward until Red starts to leave and brings up their AR desktop. Get their desktop data, then head into the Exam Facilities (the final room of the Medical hub).

Upon entering, Blue should have their desktop active. Recover their data and then throw the hat somewhere nearby, like on the exam table. Step back and turn left, going towards the Office. Once inside you should go to the desk and do the usual data access on the Workstation. To the left of the desk is a drawer that's partially open, open this fully, grab the key (it might get rolled over by the medicine bottle, so look carefully) and leave the office. From here, go left into the Imaging room. Under the examination table, near the door, is the Housecat for this AR Recording (Catsitter 4/7).

With key in hand, leave the Exam Facilities. As soon as you step through the door, fast forward the clip until the Green AR Bubble comes up. You should be able to see the Green hologram approaching, get his AR desktop data. Now head back into Medical Storage and go to the left of the room. You'll find a key slot, use the key on this slot and open the door. Look at the back of the cupboard behind the turquoise and white bottles to find a skull. Pick the skull up and head back to the Exam Facilities. Head to the far end of the room and open the door on the right (opposite the keypad). Inside, you'll find a skeleton which you can place the skull on (hover over the neck until it says "Put Back"). Go grab the hat from wherever you left it and then put it on top of the skull. This will unlock:

Skeletina

Gave Tina back her hat (and her head…).

Skeletina
2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerCollectableBuggy -

As soon as the achievement pops, grab the skull without the hat (this is for an achievement in a minute) and turn 180 degrees to the keypad. Enter the code 2080. Read the three medical scan records by letting them load fully, then leave Medical and go back to your book. Pick the book back up (no idea where Amy puts the skull as she gets it) and leave Biomedical via the lift.

As you're leaving, you'll get another V-T message, pop open your menu and read it as you head up the lift shaft. It'll point you towards Engineering next. But first, the skull situation. As you leave Biomedical, you'll be back by the basketball hoops. Just go up to either of them and press cn_A when you see dunk - no need for a three-pointer here. Doing so will unlock:

Casketball

Worked together with Tina to make a particularly spooky basket.

Casketball
2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerCollectable

You'll also get some weird cat meowing song with ghosty cats. Lucky you.

Next, look around until you see the Engineering module. Head over and get in the lift.

Engineering

Once down, follow the corridor and deposit your book in the dock once more and read the messages. This time, you can only head right - into Mechanical Engineering. Go through and recover the AR Recording as soon as you enter. Fast forward a tiny bit to bring up the Blue AR desktop and get their data. Enter the door they're standing, near to the Power Cell room. Go over to the table and turn to face the door. Look up until your reticle is over the lower pipe, then directly right. You shouldn't need to turn too far to discover the Housecat for this AR Recording (Catsitter 5/7), on top of some power cells (pictured below):

Power Cell Cat

Leave the Power Cell room and go across the corridor into the Workshop. The only thing of note here is a desk up the left set of steps. Go up and read the three messages, then leave the Workshop. From here, take the right door into the Personal Quarters. Here you can recover another AR Recording and desktop. Do so and then exit again. Now take the set of steps directly across from you into the next area, where you'll see Red and Orange working. Fast forward to open Red's AR desktop. Go up to them and access their data. Now fast forward to the end, the clip looks huge but a large portion is corrupt and skips over so you won't wait long. From Red's perch, turn around and go right to find a door with a keypad on it. Enter 0809 to go through.

IMPORTANT:

Now, one of the trickier or more missable achievements. As you follow the corridor around, you'll have a door slide open automatically and you'll then head down a ramp. At the bottom of the ramp you need to go right. At this point, look up as you move forwards. After the ventilation fan you'll see a floor grate (you might be able to see an "Exit" sign through it). You might also be able to see a little mouse-like object. Use cn_LT to zoom in and aim slightly to the left of the mouse. You'll find a ring (you know you've got it as some text reading "Maybe I should hold onto this..." pops up). I've provided two screenshots to show you the location, it's hard to spot, so just keep going around the edge of the grate if you can't immediately spot it and you'll find it eventually. Make sure to collect this as there's an achievement for getting to the end of the game with this ring.

Ring 1
View as you come down the corridor (ring visible)
Ring 2
View from directly beneath the ring

-

Continue down the corridor. You'll come across another AR Recording near a chair. Recover it and fast forward, there's no desktop data to collect here. A little bit further along you'll receive another V-T message, so pop open your menu and read that one. After you head through the door, you'll want to go in the direction of the arrows in front of you. There's no need to go into the Personal Quarters unless you want some story bits and bobs, so follow the walkway around up to the Office. In the Office, recover the AR Recording and get the desktop data. Fast forward through the rest of the clip and then use the Workstation - activating all three messages before leaving the Office.

From the Office, turn left. An AR Recording Recovery should be prompted, recover it and fast forward as there's no desktop data to get. Before you follow the Blue hologram through the door, stand close to where the Blue hologram started from in the Recording. From here, look at the glowing blue pillar. Look up to the middle (there's a thicker bit of metal across the middle) and just off to the right you should see the Housecat for this segment (pictured - Catsitter 6/7). Once you've found it you can follow Blue through the door.

Engineering Cat

Keep going forward past where Blue stops in the clip and you'll arrive in a room with a few panels you can access. As you go further in, you'll get an AR Recovery prompt, so press cn_X. Blue will open a desktop, but it's not recoverable - so fast forward if you're not following the story. Read the three panels in the room and then go through either door and around to the next space. You'll get another AR Recovery prompt, recover the clip. No AR desktop in here either, so fast forward to the end. Inspect the monitor that Blue is examining, then turn around to the "Release ODIN Wetware" console. Press the button to bring up a pillar in the previous room.

Go back to the previous room and enter the code you just generated on the pillar (0451 if you missed it). This will eject the ODIN mainframe and Amy will pick it up in the next sequence. Exit the room now, back towards Engineering. You'll receive another V-T message, read it. Then continue back down the way you came but instead of going through the door labelled Maintenance, you can take a right towards the exit instead and where you left your book. Before picking up the book, scroll back through the messages quickly and then collect it. You're done in Engineering now, so head back to the Tacoma main bay.

Final Section

As soon as you exit the lift, you'll have an AR Recovery prompt. Press cn_X to recover the sequence, then fast forward to the first AR Bubble (Red's). Look towards the Docking point and you'll see Red's AR desktop open, so go over and collect their four data points. Fast forward a little more until the next Bubble which is Yellow's. His desktop should be open just behind you near the Engineering module. Collect his AR desktop data. The Purple administrator has your final Housecat in her arms so aim your reticle somewhere near their folded arms until you see Housecat at the top of the screen (Catsitter 7/7). If you've got all of the cats, you should unlock:

Catsitter

Found the AR cat in every recovered Crew Record on the Station.

Catsitter
2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerCollectable

If you happened to miss a cat somewhere, the achievement is one of the few that doesn't rely on you finishing the game - so you can just play back through until you find your missing cat and it will pop as soon as you spot it. I'd say even if it was one of the later ones, it should only take 30 minutes maximum to get back through everything and find your missing cats (quicker if it was an early one).

Now fast forward to the final Bubble which is Blue, who should have their desktop open near Engineering too. Get these final data points and then you're done with AR Data! Fast forward to the end of the sequence just to be sure. The achievement pops a little later when you finish the game, so don't worry that nothing comes up.

Now you've got one thing left to do on the station for an achievement. Go to the Cryogenics module and take a left. On the right side of the cryo pods is a little sanitation drone (you might've noticed another one flying around the central station space). Press cn_A on it to activate it, and then cn_A on it again to grab it when you get given the option. Now, go back into the main section of the station and find the drone flying around. Throw the drone you're holding at it to unlock:

Activate Juliet and reunite her with Romeo in zero-G.

Now you can exit the ship. Head out of the Docking door, across the travelator-thing and through the airlock door to the ship. There's a slot directly in front of you as you go through the door. Interact with it to place ODIN into the ship. This is now a good time to read your last V-T message to complete the set of collectibles and also to quickly flick back through all nine of them just to be sure (V-T COLLECTIBLES 1-9/9). After this, go around to the cockpit and interact with the pilot seat to launch. A short cutscene will play, then the credits will roll. At the end of the credits, you should unlock the remaining achievements for finishing the game and gathering all of the various collectibles:
