Age of Empires: Definitive Edition (Win 10) (2018)

External image

Hi there and welcome to the Age of Empires: Definitive Edition walkthrough. For some players like myself, this game with cheats like Big Daddy and Pow will bring back childhood memories. It is an extremely easy completion since you can use cheats and still earn your achievements. Most players should be done in 2-4 hours with this game, whereas it would normally take that amount of time to get just through a fraction of the campaign. You do not need any strategy skills or so to play this game, as the cheats make it basically impossible to lose any game. You'll be typing in Home Run a lot, to ensure an instant victory, allowing you to go through the campaign missions in about 10 minutes. Without further ado, let's get started with popping achievements!

Since cheats do not disable any achievements from unlocking, all tips which I can give are all the cheats. These are as follows:
(In order to activate a cheat, press Enter, then type the cheat and then press Enter again.)

  • BIGDADDY: Winsett’s Z car that’s very, very fast and has a deadly attack. Requires a Town Centre.
  • BIG MOMMA: Winsett’s other Z car, similar to the previous one but it’s a white car instead of black. Requires Town Centre.
  • BIG BERTHA: Turns all Stone Throwers and Catapults into Big Bertha, which is stronger.
  • PHOTON MAN: Laser Trooper wearing a space suit. Fast, works best when you have five or six of these. Requires a Town Centre.
  • E=MC2 TROOPER: Creates a Nuke Trooper. Looks like the Laser Trooper, but fires one arrow with massive damage. Slow firing rate with 88 range — can be lethal over a long range. Requires Town Centre.
  • POW: Creates a BabyPrez, an infant on a tricycle armed with a deadly weapon. Great at destroying enemy soldiers. Requires Town Centre.
  • HOYOHOYO: A Priest who moves very, very fast with 600 hit points. Create these before researching Mysticism at the Temple to double hit points to 1200.
  • STORMBILLY: Creates a Zug 209 robot that shoots lasers at enemies. Best used in groups of five or more. Requires a Town Centre.
  • DARK RAIN: Turns all your bowmen into Composite Bowmen who turn into trees when they’re not moving. Perfect for stealth attacks.
  • BLACK RIDER: Turns every cavalry archer into Black Rider. The unit gets a cool name and description but not much else.
  • FLYING DUTCHMAN: Allows Catapult Trireme and Juggernaut ships to move on land.
  • ICBM: Upgrades the range of Ballista and Helepolis to 100.
  • UPSIDFLINTMOBILE: Chariot archers start moving and firing arrows much faster than normal.
  • MEDUSA: Turns villagers into Medusa, which means they come back from the dead twice. First time they die, villagers become Black Riders, and the next time they turn into Heavy Catapults. Doesn’t apply to existing villagers but new ones you create. Any villagers you create can’t collect resources after you use this cheat. Requires Town Centre.
  • JACK BE NIMBLE: Catapults throw villagers instead of stones. The animations change a bit depending on the direction you’re attacking.
  • KING ARTHUR: All birds become flying dinosaurs, or dragons if you want to call them that.
  • WOODSTOCK: Instantly gives you 1000 wood.
  • PEPPERONI PIZZA: Instantly gives you 1000 food.
  • COINAGE: Instantly gives you 1000 gold.
  • QUARRY: Instantly gives you 1000 stone.
  • REVEAL MAP: Shows you the entire map including resources and trees. You can’t see enemy units with this.
  • NO FOG: Removes the fog of war and reveals the position of all units.
  • STEROIDS: Removes the waiting time for creation of units, buildings, or for upgrades. Does this for all players, not just you.
  • RESIGN: In case you want to lose immediately.
  • GAIA: Lets you control animals but you lose control of your own units. We have no idea how to regain control of your civilisation once you enter this cheat code.
  • KILL1: Kills one player. You can use KILL2, KILL3, etc (up to KILL8) to destroy other players (including yourself) too.
  • DIE DIE DIE: Instantly destroy all other players.
  • HOME RUN: Win immediately.

Reveal map: All visible

Population limit: 250

Starting age: Post-Iron age (for most of them)

Victory type: Standard
Difficulty level: Easy
Speed: Normal
Game mode: Definitive edition

Then make sure that at least these 2 boxes are checked/ticked: Allow cheats and Full Tech Tree.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It does not matter versus what empire you are playing, but for yourself, you will have to go through some of them depending on what achievements you are going for.

Once every game starts press ENTER, type " steroids " and press ENTER again to make buildings go up instantly and to make troops be trained instantly as well. Always start off with building about 20 houses or so, so you can house enough troops/villagers. The fastest way to do this is select a villager, press Q (hotkey) to get a house ready and then just click where you want to build it. You will also work towards this achievement:

In case you run out of resources, these cheats will help out. In case you still need quite some progress towards a certain achievement it might be worth setting up a new custom game rather than putting in the cheat code again and again:

(I've left out some of them which are easier to do in a custom scenario campaign, convert units for 3 achievements, kill a lion (alpha) and raze 200 temples)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Best way to go for the Shang wall segments and the 50 Babylonians towers is to train some extra villagers at the town center, and then order all of them to start building. Then select one villager and start adding extra wall segments/towers.

For the train X amount of troops achievements, place the Barracks/Archery range/academy/Siege workshop somewhere in the open. This will mean that you can train more units before you have to remove units. Hold the SHIFT button and keep clicking the unit you want to train (or press the Hotkey). Once it says that there is not enough room to build more units, double-click (left mouse) on one of the units, and hold the DELETE button on your keyboard until all of them are deleted. Then start training units again. Also, make sure that the steroids cheat is always activated at the start of a new match.

Note: as long as you don't have the Not that I'm keeping count achievement, you might want to send units created over to the enemy's base rather then deleting them, so they can destroy enemies.

Once you run out of resources or have your achievement(s), press ENTER, type " home run " and press ENTER again to win the match.

You can get the last 6 achievements quicker in a custom scenario that we'll be creating. Go to Editor-> Create Scenario
You can choose to either do all 3 of them in a single scenario or make a scenario for all of them individually.
I always made scenario's on medium sized desert maps and "blank" so no trees or water is in your way.
Make sure that you add units as the correct player!

It basically comes down to 3 types of achievements which we are grinding here. Converting units with priests, hunting animals and razing temples. My advice would be to do all of them on a single map, as you will need to wait for a shorter amount of time in this way. For now, just get the set up ready as mentioned below. I'll describe further down how and when to start going for the achievements.

Converting units with Priests:
(apparently, you need to change to change the age to Post-Iron Age for player 1 for the Losing your Religion achievement.)

Once the map is generated as mentioned above, go to UNITS. Make sure player is set as player 1 underneath the units. Then go to priests in the unit list and add a few priests somewhere on the map. Change the player to player 2 and add 2 priests next to the ones you just placed.

Losing Your Religion

Convert an enemy Priest

Losing Your Religion
1 guideOnline/OfflineSingle PlayerCooperativeVersus

Now go to the top left-hand corner and start making a line of clubmen, two spaces wide and not directly next to the edge of the map. As player 1, add a 1 wide line of priests on both sides of the clubmen. You can make the line as long as you want. The longer you make it, the fewer times you need to restart the scenario once finished. I made mine just over 50 spaces long (just over 100 priests and 100 clubmen). This means you'll need to restart the scenario 10 times.

Hunting animals:
As player Gaia, add a few Lions (alpha). As player 1, add a few villagers or troops next to it. Once you start the scenario, simply attack the lions for your Heracles achievement.

Heracles

Defeat a Lion (Alpha)

Heracles
2 guidesOnline/OfflineSingle PlayerCooperativeVersus

As player Gaia, start making a 3 wide line consisting of Gazelles in the bottom left corner. I would place around 50 gazelles total. (Right next to the edge of the map) Then as player 1, place a Storage pit next to the gazelles every so many blocks. Besides, add quite a bunch of villagers around the storage pits and gazelles. These villagers will hunt the gazelles, once we start the scenario. To finish it off, add a fortified wall around the villagers, so the gazelles can't run off.

Artemis

Hunt 250 animals

Artemis
2 guidesOnline/OfflineSingle PlayerCooperativeVersusCumulative +

Razing temples:
Finally, add around 50 temples in the bottom right corner (as player 2). As player 1, add about 30 Winsett's Z around the temples.
Hun, is that you?

Destroy 200 temples

Hun, is that you?

Additionally, if you still need this achievement:
Not that I'm keeping count…

Defeat 1000 enemy units

Not that I'm keeping count…
1 guideOnline/OfflineSingle PlayerCooperativeVersusCumulative +

You can add some easy to kill units like axemen on the map(player 2), and add Winsett's Z around them as player 1.

------------------------------------------------
Now that your set up is ready, save the scenario as any random name and quit to main menu. Head over to campaign editor in the editor menu. Here, add the previously created scenario to the campaign by double-clicking on it. Besides, give the campaign a random name and press select campaign. Now, we are good to go. Head over to custom campaign in the campaign menu and start your campaign. Add the cheat codes "hoyohoyo" (for the converting achievements) and "steroids" (for the hunting animals achievements).

Note: Steroids MAY void progress towards hunting animals, as reported on the walkthrough thread. Personally never had issues with using it.

For the Losing your religion achievements, just select your priests and select them to attack/convert the enemy priests. They might already auto attack the priests. The other priests should auto attack the clubmen.

You will need to order your villagers to start hunting the gazelles, and order the other few villagers to attack the lion (alpha) for the Heracles achievement.

Your Winsett's Z's will auto attack the temples (and possibly other units) as well, as long as they are in range. You might or might not need to have to order them to attack.

For this update, I made a world where you can earn all achievements except for the win with wonder, ruins and artefacts, and the win a ranked match. All the others work! Credit to FGNZ DEBROIN for making the first version of this scenario! First, download the scenario here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/kxvbggz6iiv3s2g/ACHIEVEMENT%20WORL...
Copy the file to the desktop.
Now in Age of empires, go to Editors->Campaign editors->Open Scenario folder.
A folder will open, copy the file you copied to the desktop to this folder. Now back out and reboot the game. It is a bit glitchy, but after one or multiple attempts, the file should be visible in the list of scenarios in the campaign editor (ACHIEVEMENT WORLD TRUEACHIEVEMENTS). Now select this scenario and click 'Add scenario'. Now at the top of the page, give your campaign a name and now select 'make campaign'. Now go back to the menu and select campaign, and go to custom campaign. Start your freshly created campaign and start it on easy.

Upon starting, select ENTER on your keyboard and type in STEROIDS and select enter again.
Now click on the town center and advance 3 times, all the way to the iron age.
Upon winning the match that should pop you:

In the meantime, start assigning villagers to gather:
- Wood (from trees)
- Food (from farms, bushes with berries and animals)
- Gold (from the large and few smaller mine locations)
- Stone (from the large and few smaller mine locations)

This will start you getting progress towards:

that also these achievements don't pop until you finish the game.
The food one is probably the hardest one and will take multiple games. Now while your villagers are gathering resources, you can start researching all of the technologies (which will speed the resource gathering up also. Besides, you can kill the Medusa and the 20 heroes in the East) Start with the latter. Select one of the many race cars (Big Daddy's) and let them perform the ground attack move on the area where the heroes are trapped (note: I could only do this with a left mouse click). This should allow you to kill at least 1 Medusa and 20 heroes, thus unlocking these 2 achievements.

Now start researching all the technologies. There are 10 buildings which require technologies to be researched. They all should be built already, but feel free to build additional or new ones if you have to. For the buildings that build fighting units (docks, stables, barracks, archery, siege workshop), it are almost always just the options on the middle row which you will need to research. For other buildings, it can pretty much be all options. Please note that you need to go through the buildings multiple times as researches unlocked in the market and government building, for example, will open up new technologies in other buildings. THIS ACHIEVEMENT WILL POP IN-GAME, SO KEEP RESEARCHING UNTIL IT POPS!
Archimedes

Research all technologies in a single game

Now there are ruins and artefacts on the right-hand side, and besides, you can build a wonder. However, I could not get these to pop in the campaign and thus you will need to go for them in a custom game.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last 4 achievements can not be directly obtained by using premade maps/scenarios. There is one online achievement and 3 achievements are related to winning a match in a specific way. You can combine these by for example beating your boosting partner by holding ruins.

The online achievement requires you to win a ranked ELO game. I would suggest finding a boosting partner for this, as it is much easier and quicker than actually trying to beat an online opponent legitimately. The person hosting should adjust the settings in your advantage so that the game is easier to win. For example enable full tech tree, start in post-iron age, play on a tiny map and play at full speed. You can also change the victory type to one of the three victory types mentioned below.

Start a custom game with the following settings:
2 players, map visible, low resources, post iron age, easy difficulty, normal speed, full tech tree and allow cheats. DO NOT enable deathmatch. Victory type depends on which achievement you go for. Note that Ruins and Artifacts can not be always found on a map. A small river map should always have 5 artefacts.
Artefacts are objects, which you can move to your base once captured. Capture all 5 and wait for the countdown to run out to win.
