Railway Empire Walkthrough

Image 1

Hello everyone and welcome to my walkthrough of Railway Empire. This is my first walkthrough and I hope it's up to the high TrueAchievements standard you've all come to expect. This walkthrough will take you through the story and then the 11 scenarios you need to complete and will provide you with all you need to obtain the games 55 achievements.

(The 'Gone With The Headwind' scenario in the south-east region was included in a title update and is not required)

The majority of the game is not that difficult, with only a couple of the scenarios being a little more trouble to complete. I have included my personal ratings and the Month & Year I completed each scenario at the end of each scenario's write up so you know what you're aiming for if going for president rating on your first try.

There are separate pages for the campaign and then the scenarios are grouped into regions for your ease of navigation depending on which of those you want to tackle first.

Your looking at a minimum of around 30 hours to complete this game if everything goes your way (10 hours for the campaign and then 20 hours for scenarios), if however it doesn't go your way be prepared it can take considerably longer. One scenario, in particular, took me around 10/11 attempts to succeed and they don't play the same way every time so your method can fail one time but succeed on another attempt.

To try and speed up your playthrough of this game and arm you with some extra knowledge I have compiled a few hints and tips here that should help you on your way.

Bonds

You can access these by pressing cn_RT and then selecting the icon 'company' then click cn_LB Bonds are similar in fashion to loans, you can borrow a sum of money for differing lengths of time to help you out, but you will have to pay interest on the money you have borrowed. The amount of money you can borrow is roughly 33% of your company value and the more you borrow the greater the interest rate. If you don't have the required funds to repay the bond at the end of its term it will start a fresh term of the same length.

They are extremely useful at the beginning of any mission - but on certain scenarios can actually cause you to fail (there is a mission that requires you never to have a negative value of funds so if you happen to purchase something that leaves you with practically no money, and then your bond interest comes out, then not only is that super unlucky but also game over!)

Fast Expansion & City Growth

Some of the scenarios are really tight on time for certain tasks. As such expanding quickly and efficiently is the key to making money - and therefore expanding further or buying businesses may be required to complete whichever mission it is you're doing.

You can grow a city to around 80,000 population with just 5 goods being supplied to it (Wheat, Beer, Corn, Logs & Meat/Cattle). If you add in a couple more such as Fruit, Vegetables, Cotton and Milk you can easily reach 110,000 upwards. This is where the newer warehouse function comes into use. If you position 1 or 2 warehouses within exchange distance of a city you can deliver the goods to the warehouses which will supply the city as needed and keeps your inner city station free for Passenger trains.

I will often state which goods to supply to each city during the walkthrough but this is always a good base to start with.

Campaign First

I would strongly recommend completing the campaign first as not only will it teach you a lot about playing the game and different ways of expanding for different requirements but also they are for the most part very time-relaxed and as such you can think about how best to approach your rail network construction.

Freight Loading

This is more aimed at the scenarios - rather than the campaign - but in the 'route options' of your rail line, you want to avoid 'mixed' load trains as much as possible by having dedicated 'freight' trains and dedicated 'passengers & mail' trains.

Utilizing Stations

For the medium and large stations, it is worth using all the tracks available even when playing with the easy rail lines. Even though trains can pass through each other they will still only unload 1 at a time at the station, so if you press cn_X to go into rail line and then cn_right you can choose which track the train uses at each station. Try to spread your trains at each station across all the tracks to get everything loaded/unloaded as quickly as possible.

Chapter Specific Achievements

Just a quick note here. The 5 chapter-specific 'miscellaneous' achievements must be completed before your final compulsory task. If you complete all the compulsory tasks and then continue playing to fulfill the requirements for any of these achievements they will not unlock! Of course, a quick way around this if you happen to accidentally complete all the tasks is to simply reload an earlier auto-save.

Scenarios

I would recommend fully reading through the guide of any specific scenario before you start it yourself as you may find yourself in a position to start preparing for later tasks or expanding earlier than I mention it, and any extra time available can help you earn a President rating.

Rating

In the game is an invisible scoring system relating to how quickly you complete each task with maximum score being given if you complete a task in half the allotted time - and until you complete a scenario you don't know how well you are doing. With the Germany DLC came a useful update to the Task List which now shows a completed Task with a golden tick mark if you earned a maximum score on it. Unfortunately anything less than maximum still only shows with a green tick mark but if you get towards the end of a scenario with all of your Tasks having golden ticks then you have a very high chance of achieving President.

Glitchy Achievements

Another quick note. Be aware that many of the achievements in this game can potentially not unlock once the required criteria have been met. They will eventually come through though. Don't panic - it does not mean they won't unlock, it's just an issue with the game and Xbox Live not exchanging data correctly. Having said that, reloading an earlier autosave and manually saving so that you have a backup ready to try and 'push' the achievement through at a later date is not a bad thing either.

I had one achievement take 7 days to unlock and have heard of other peoples that took over 20 days!

So let's start with the campaign which follows the construction of the Transcontinental rail line. Although technically there are only 6 campaign specific achievements, you will no doubt get at least 21 due to their requirements and the tasks you must complete.

These achievements are listed in the order I obtained them. You may get these in the same or a different order and you may unlock some during the campaign that I didn't, either way, don't worry. We are going to get them all anyway!

Chapter 1 - Great Plains

This first chapter serves as a tutorial and teaches you the basics of the game through reliving the accomplishments of the Union Pacific Railroad - constructing a rail line from your starting city of Omaha, to Rock Springs in the Rocky Mountains.

After the introductory cutscene, we have some dialogue from Thomas Clark Durant who teaches you the basics of the game - starting with moving the camera with cn_LS, and then the zoom and rotate functions using cn_RS. We follow this with cn_RT to open up the control wheel and select Building construction mode to create our first station in Norfolk (remember you can rotate your stations before construction by using cn_LB and cn_RB). Once again use cn_RT to open the wheel and select Track construction mode and build your first rail line by selecting the track points at your 2 stations one by one and pressing cn_Y to Build the proposed track construction. This will unlock our first achievement:

From A to B in Railway Empire
2 cities connected
  • Unlocked by 1,963 tracked gamers (98% - TA Ratio = 1.00) 1,994

Next, we want to open the control wheel again and select New Train. Follow this by pressing cn_Y to add a locomotive and select our only option for the time being - which will unlock:

What is a steam engine in Railway Empire
First locomotive purchased
  • Unlocked by 1,974 tracked gamers (99% - TA Ratio = 1.00) 1,994

Then back out of this window, press cn_X for rail line modification and select the stations where you wish this train to stop. Of course, we only have 2 so select Norfolk and then Omaha by pressing cn_A on each of them - then press cn_B to confirm your rail line. Your railway management journey has begun! Next, we are told to join the corn farm south of Omaha to the network, so go ahead and do that. After that, we are brought onto parallel tracks as we want 2 trains traveling on 1 piece of track between Norfolk and Omaha. The tutorial will teach you this but after the first campaign mission you don't need to do this - so I won't go into it. Now, create a train that will go Corn Farm - Omaha - Norfolk. We are now told to build a maintenance building at the station in Omaha. Do this by selecting the station and pressing cn_X.

Tutorial Complete! We are now given a task list to complete which you can access by selecting the top icon on the command wheel. Our first 2 are to connect our rail network to North Platte and then Omaha. Start by building a medium station in North Platte and a small station at the Corn Farm nearby. Build a rail line between the north line at North Platte and Norfolk, then build a line between the south line at North Platte and the Corn Farm. Finally, set up a train to run on each of those.

Now build a large station in Cheyenne (remember to use bonds if you don't have enough cash) and connect one of the middle lines to North Platte and then add a train to that line. We are then asked to build a large station to the north of Cheyenne - in between the Timber and Wheat supplies. Connect this to your north line at Cheyenne and add a train to it.

2/8 Tasks down - now we can look at delivering 16 loads of Cattle to Denver and 16 loads of Meat to Cheyenne. Build a medium station in Denver and a small station at the nearby Ranch. Connect the Ranch to the south line at Denver and connect the North line at Denver to the south line at Cheyenne. Add a train to each of those lines and 2 more Tasks will be done before long.

4/8 Tasks now. If/when you have the money, build a small station in Rock Springs and connect this to the line at Cheyenne which currently has no connection. This will net you the following:

Mountain goat in Railway Empire
Chapter 1: Connect Omaha to Rock Springs
  • Unlocked by 1,103 tracked gamers (55% - TA Ratio = 1.34) 1,994

Now, add a train to this line - but after you have selected your cities press cn_Y and scroll down to 'Loading' and change this to 'passengers & mail only'. Once this is done, save your rail line. You should now be introduced to research which is on the far right of the command wheel. Access this now and unlock the 'No 51 Dragon' train. Select the train you just created, press cn_Y to manage train, then cn_A for new locomotive and select your new locomotive. At some point soon (if you haven't already) you should unlock these 4 achievements:

No brakes on the hype train in Railway Empire
First express train in use
  • Unlocked by 1,565 tracked gamers (78% - TA Ratio = 1.12) 1,994

Mystery steam ride in Railway Empire
Transport 1000 passengers in one game
  • Unlocked by 1,455 tracked gamers (73% - TA Ratio = 1.17) 1,994

Online - Shop in Railway Empire
Transport 1200 packages in one game
  • Unlocked by 1,351 tracked gamers (68% - TA Ratio = 1.21) 1,994

Lightning flash in Railway Empire
Set a speed record
  • Unlocked by 1,161 tracked gamers (58% - TA Ratio = 1.31) 1,994

We should now have 6/8 Tasks complete as we have connected Rock Springs to the network and Cheyenne has been quietly growing. The train between Rock Springs and Cheyenne is working on our 'Transport 100 passengers without stopping', and as the connected cities are growing the 'Connect 150,000 people to our network' is being worked on as well.

Once these final 2 Tasks are complete you will complete the level and hopefully unlock:

Lone wolf in Railway Empire
Lone wolf22 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The North" as president
  • Unlocked by 397 tracked gamers (20% - TA Ratio = 2.24) 1,994

Don't worry if you didn't get this one - there are more chances to get it.

Chapter 2 - The Early Days

When selecting the second chapter we want to use the 'Normal' rail network and 'Trainiac' pause mode as this will make our life easier in terms of train and line management - and Trainiac will give us a score boost at the end.

We have competitors this time although they shouldn't pose a problem. YOUR MONEY CANNOT GO NEGATIVE on this mission. If it does then you will fail. We start off with 2 Tasks to complete and both are fairly simple - connect Baltimore to Washington and connect 3 rural businesses to your rail network. Connect Washington first, and then connect the Dairy Farm to the north with Baltimore using the same line of the station as the route to Washington. Connect the Breeding and one other rural business to Baltimore to complete our first 2 Tasks. Now add trains to the following lines: Dairy - Washington, Breeding - Baltimore, Baltimore - Washington, and your other rural business - Baltimore. Make sure there is a Maintenance building in Baltimore and a supply tower on each line!

Next, we are told to build a station in New York and connect it to Baltimore so go ahead, do that and then add a train to the line. This should net you:

Bridging the gap in Railway Empire
Build a long bridge
  • Unlocked by 1,240 tracked gamers (62% - TA Ratio = 1.26) 1,994

We then have 3 more Tasks which all linked. Start with a station in Pittsburgh and a station at the Cotton Farm to the south. Connect these and add a train to the line.

Now go into Research on the command wheel, unlock any 3 upgrades that cost 100 points each and then back out. We are now introduced to staff and are told to hire an Engineer and a Stoker. Do this now and add them both to the same train. As the level goes on keep checking the Personnel tab for a Conductor and a Security Guard. If you can hire both of those and add them to the same train as your first 2 staff you will get:

Full steam ahead in Railway Empire
First engineer recruited
  • Unlocked by 1,065 tracked gamers (53% - TA Ratio = 1.36) 1,994

Fully loaded in Railway Empire
A fully staffed train
  • Unlocked by 863 tracked gamers (43% - TA Ratio = 1.52) 1,994

Hire all the staff you can during this mission and you will get:

Medium-sized business in Railway Empire
You have 50 employees
  • Unlocked by 471 tracked gamers (24% - TA Ratio = 2.05) 1,994

You will get introduced to a Saboteur soon - keep your eye out for him. Hire him and send him to sabotage a competitors rail line or business and you will get:

Let off some steam in Railway Empire
Sabotage a competitor
  • Unlocked by 713 tracked gamers (36% - TA Ratio = 1.67) 1,994

Right, back to Pittsburgh. Create a line between Pittsburgh and Baltimore (using bonds if you need them and adjust the route you are creating to make it cheaper!) which should get you:

Right through the middle in Railway Empire
Build a long tunnel
  • Unlocked by 1,065 tracked gamers (53% - TA Ratio = 1.36) 1,994

Add a train to run between the 2 and make it 'Freight Only', then add another train to the rail line between Baltimore and New York which will also be 'Freight Only'.

Now go into research, unlock a new faster locomotive and then upgrade all of your trains to be this new locomotive.

Soon we will have 5 Tasks complete and then a further 6 will open up (4 Compulsory and 2 Optional). Start with connecting Toledo to Pittsburgh, then connect another 6 rural businesses to the rail network - which will get you the following:

I'll scratch your back if... in Railway Empire
5 rural businesses connected
  • Unlocked by 1,289 tracked gamers (65% - TA Ratio = 1.24) 1,994

If you add trains to all these lines to supply your cities with what they need you should get:

Quiet times in Railway Empire
20 locomotives in use
  • Unlocked by 842 tracked gamers (42% - TA Ratio = 1.53) 1,994

Check on your cities and add trains to lines where they are needed. For example, if you need to supply a city with more of a certain resource, or you need to export more goods from a city.

With 4 Tasks to go, we want to work on buying out a competitor. Start buying shares in either of your opponents whenever you have the cash. You can do this by going into 'Company' on the command wheel. If you can do this before your company value reaches $20,000,000 you will get the following 3 achievements:

Easy come, easy go in Railway Empire
Invest $2 million in the stock market
  • Unlocked by 797 tracked gamers (40% - TA Ratio = 1.58) 1,994

Bold and beautiful in Railway Empire
Invest $5 million in company shares
  • Unlocked by 624 tracked gamers (31% - TA Ratio = 1.78) 1,994

All mine! in Railway Empire
All mine!54 (30)
Buy out a competitor
  • Unlocked by 617 tracked gamers (31% - TA Ratio = 1.79) 1,994

If you get the chance to buy or build an industry in one of the cities - and can afford it - then go for it as it will net you:

All beginnings are difficult in Railway Empire
Own an industry
  • Unlocked by 1,331 tracked gamers (67% - TA Ratio = 1.22) 1,994

You also gain profit if you supply and export the goods it needs/produces. Try to connect 10 cities to your network and add trains to all the lines to earn you more money and this achievement:

Jumbled routes in Railway Empire
10 cities connected
  • Unlocked by 872 tracked gamers (44% - TA Ratio = 1.51) 1,994

We want to work on growing Baltimore now so make sure it is supplied with everything it needs and you are exporting the goods that are made there. When it reaches 100,000 population we will be left with 1 Task to go!

Now it's just a case of expanding your network and/or buying out your other competitor until your company value reaches $20,000,000. When this happens the scenario will be complete and you will hopefully get the following achievement:

Megalomaniac in Railway Empire
Complete a scenario in region "The East" as president
  • Unlocked by 218 tracked gamers (11% - TA Ratio = 3.02) 1,994

At some point during this mission, you should have also got:

Mantled guereza in Railway Empire
Chapter 2: Deliver clothing to New York
  • Unlocked by 859 tracked gamers (43% - TA Ratio = 1.52) 1,994

Chapter 3 - Over The Mississippi

I would suggest using normal rail lines and the trainiac pause mode. This is quite a short and easy level - on one of the updates for this game they have adjusted the map rating multiplier from 1.0x to 1.5x so president rating is easily possible on this level now.

There are only 4 compulsory tasks on this mission and 3 optional ones. I personally only did the optional task to buy out another competitor as there is a chapter specific achievement linked to it but feel free to do them all if you want.

Another thing to watch out for in this mission is auctions - if you can win 5 of them you will get yourself this achievement:

Auctioneer in Railway Empire
Auctioneer30 (20)
Win 5 auctions in one game
  • Unlocked by 858 tracked gamers (43% - TA Ratio = 1.52) 1,994

Once we start, our first 2 Tasks are to connect 10 rural businesses and 250,000 people to our network and we start with a station in Toledo. Go ahead and connect the nearby Ranch to Toledo as cattle is wanted there, then build stations in Indianapolis, Chicago & Grand Rapids. Connect all these cities up and add trains, supply towers & maintenance buildings to each of these lines so we can begin making money. Now focus on connecting rural businesses that will aid in the growth of these cities and also supply them with materials for the industries.

I would also now connect Madison and the nearby cattle and logging businesses to Chicago as these can all help to grow it. You should be close to 250,00 people after this, so focus on the 10 rural businesses if you haven't already completed the task, and connect Rock island to Chicago as we can now start supplying Rock Island with 50 loads of Lumber from Toledo or Madison - if you managed to grow it to city level 3 and built a Sawmill.

While you are waiting for your 50 loads of Lumber to be delivered - or after you have the 3 Tasks completed - make sure you buy out a competitor as this will earn you:

Bull and bear in Railway Empire
Chapter 3: Take over a competitor
  • Unlocked by 397 tracked gamers (20% - TA Ratio = 2.24) 1,994

Now onto our final compulsory task which is to transport 100 passengers from Toledo to Omaha without stopping. What this means is that you need a train line that goes between the 2 cities with no other stops on the line.

So you need to build a station in Omaha and connect this to the bridge over the Mississippi near Rock Island. Then add supply towers, a maintenance building and a couple of trains to this line (Omaha - Toledo), and once these trains have transported a total of 100 passengers to Omaha it will be chapter complete, Hopefully, this achievement will unlock:

Trainee mechanic in Railway Empire
Complete a scenario in region "The Midwest" as president
  • Unlocked by 90 tracked gamers (5% - TA Ratio = 4.70) 1,994

Chapter 4 - Civil War

From this point forward in the walkthrough I'm not going to mention maintenance buildings or supply towers anymore as they are needed on every line you make and therefore anytime you make a new line you should automatically add these.

Once again, I would suggest using normal rails and trainiac pause mode. This level is completed in stages. There are a total of 8 Tasks to complete - although only 2 are visible from the start - the first two being to grow Louisville's population to 60,000 and produce 1 load of weapons.

The first thing we'll do is build a weapons factory in Louisville.

Next, look at the warehouse to the east. Notice the rails on both sides of the Warehouse are not connected to the same line, so if you plan on having trains run through here you will need to add some rails. Add a train to run between the Mason Estate & Warehouse and two trains between West Estate & Warehouse. This will supply the Warehouse with these 3 goods, so now add a couple of trains to run between Louisville & Warehouse. Add trains between Indianapolis & Louisville and St Louis & Louisville (make sure in loading options at Louisville of these trains that you change Weapons to "don't load" in the priority section[select train then cn_X select Louisville thencn_right then press cn_A twice on weapons])

Add a train from Walker Estate to Louisville, then build a station at one of the Logging businesses, connect it to Indianapolis (I suggest the one to the north) and then add a couple of trains to the line. This should be enough to grow Louisville to 60,000 so now we can focus on making Weapons - which need Chemicals, Lumber & Iron. There is a Chemical factory in Louisville which needs Coal. To the east, there is a Coal mine & an Iron mine so build stations at each, a line connecting them, and add trains from each to Louisville. As we know there is a Lumber factory in Indianapolis and we have trains running from there to Louisville - so that should be Weapons taken care of which will unlock you this achievement:

Gun dog in Railway Empire
Gun dog22 (10)
Chapter 4: Transport weapons to Knoxville
  • Unlocked by 429 tracked gamers (22% - TA Ratio = 2.15) 1,994

Build a Warehouse to the south of Louisville - as close as possible to the area you can't build - and set it to store Weapons. Connect it to Louisville and add a train to run between the 2 as we need to transport the Weapons to the south soon.

Task number 3 is simply to transport 12 loads of Weapons and we will be achieving this by moving them to our Warehouse south of Louisville. Once this Task is complete, we will have Tasks 4, 5 and 6 open up - which are to transport 12 loads of Weapons each to Knoxville and Jackson and to transport 2,000 passengers.

Connect your Weapons Warehouse to Nashville and Knoxville, connect Memphis to Jackson and add trains to these lines to transport the Weapons to Jackson and Knoxville. Add some 'Passenger & Mail' trains to travel from Louisville to Jackson and Knoxville now. That should take care of these 3 Tasks.

Tasks 7 & 8 should now be available which are to reach 60,000 population in Atlanta and to transport 3,000 passengers from Louisville to Atlanta. Start by connecting Knoxville to Atlanta and add 2 trains to the line Louisville - Atlanta. Then turn your attention to supplying Atlanta with everything it needs - Fabric is made by Knoxville and there is a Cotton Farm nearby to supply the Knoxville Tailors. On the rails around Atlanta that you have gained there are Wheat, Logging & Corn businesses that you can use to supply Atlanta.

While you are waiting for the final 2 tasks to complete you can purchase the 2 clay mines if you wish. There is one to the north of Indianapolis and one to the south of Augusta. This will earn you:

Monopolist in Railway Empire
Monopolist45 (30)
Produce 80% of an item in the entire region
  • Unlocked by 876 tracked gamers (44% - TA Ratio = 1.50) 1,994

If you also build an Attraction in Augusta (any of them will do) you can earn:

Isn't that great in Railway Empire
First attraction built
  • Unlocked by 739 tracked gamers (37% - TA Ratio = 1.64) 1,994

Another achievement you might get if you've added a lot of trains is:

Lots of traffic today in Railway Empire
50 locomotives in use
  • Unlocked by 571 tracked gamers (29% - TA Ratio = 1.86) 1,994

Once the last 2 Tasks are completed it will be level complete - if you completed the level quick enough you may have also earned:

Hillbilly in Railway Empire
Hillbilly45 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The South-East" as president
  • Unlocked by 99 tracked gamers (5% - TA Ratio = 4.48) 1,994

Chapter 5 - Sierra Nevada

Again on this level, I will suggest normal rail lines and the trainiac pause mode. This is the final level in the campaign and it is probably the toughest of them. We have 6 Tasks to complete plus an optional 3 - 2 of which we will definitely be doing. The first ones requiring our attention are connecting 4 cities and 8 rural businesses to our network and we want to do this pretty quickly as our 3rd Task 'Achieve a quarterly profit of $600,000' isn't easy to do (any construction you do decreases your profit for the quarter, of course, so we want a full quarter with no construction).

Use your innovation points to unlock cheaper upgrades and unlock the 'Rogers American 4-4-0' locomotive as we can use this for express trains. We start with a station in Sacramento and the cities I would suggest connecting are San Francisco, Redding & Gold Beach. Once stations are built in each of these, add lines and 'Passengers & Mail Only' trains to each of them to start gaining some income. Then connect the Breeding & Corn Farm near San Francisco to San Francisco & Sacramento and add lines & trains. To the south of Sacramento, there is Cotton, Fruit & Vegetables so build a station at each and build a line connecting all of them with Sacramento & San Francisco. Don't add trains to these lines yet as the goods are not in demand by either of these cities. The same goes with the Sugar to the northwest of Sacramento, build a station and line but don't add a train yet.

This leaves us with 2 rural businesses to connect - there is Logging not far from Redding that we can use, and a Wheat Farm between Redding & Gold Beach as one of these 2 cities will want to produce Beer soon. That will be our first 2 Tasks done - so now focus on supplying each of the cities with what they need and add a few more 'Passengers & Mail Only' Trains to your routes. Hopefully, before long we will have our $600,000 quarterly profit. Once this is achieved we can build rails further east.

Task 4 and optional Task 1 are to grow Sacramento to 100,000 & San Francisco to 50,000 population (although we want San Francisco to reach 60,000). Try and work on supplying these 2 cities more than the others. While doing this we can also build stations in Carson City & Winnemucca - so connect these and add lines & 'Passengers & Mail Only' trains to the routes as well as supplying them with goods they need. Soon the 2 cities we have to grow will be needing Sugar, Fruit, Vegetables & Cotton so add trains to those lines now as we connected them earlier. We can also build a museum in Sacramento once it reaches 60,000 population as this will speed up the growth of the city.

Continue your expansion to the east connecting Elko & Promontory Point to your network, and add some 'Passengers & Mail Only' trains to these lines as well as supplying them with goods again. Create a train to run directly from San Francisco to Promontory Point and once this has transported 50 passengers we will have just 1 Task to go.

Before completing our final task for a total network length of 2,337 miles we want to make sure San Francisco has reached 60,000 Population and then build a University there as this will unlock you:

Bookworm in Railway Empire
Bookworm30 (10)
Chapter 5: Build a university in San Francisco
  • Unlocked by 225 tracked gamers (11% - TA Ratio = 2.97) 1,994

We should now only have the task for 2,337 miles of rail to go, simply build rails wherever to get to this number and it will be level complete. If you were quick enough you may have also earned:

Sunny boy in Railway Empire
Sunny boy50 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The West" as president
  • Unlocked by 80 tracked gamers (4% - TA Ratio = 4.99) 1,994

There will be a final cutscene and then you will earn:

Historic moment in Railway Empire
Campaign successfully completed
  • Unlocked by 308 tracked gamers (15% - TA Ratio = 2.54) 1,994

This concludes the campaign, you have succeeded in building the Transcontinental Rail Line. Congratulations!

For the scenarios, we will be using 'normal' rails and the 'trainiac' pause mode unless otherwise stated. If you feel you can complete any scenario with the AI on a higher difficulty then it will increase your chances of obtaining a president rating if you need it.

Gold Rush

On this first scenario, we have no opponents to worry about which is good. We have a total of 8 compulsory tasks and 2 optional ones. There is a lot of population growth in this level so make sure your cities are well supplied (remember once a city reaches 60,000 you can build a museum which adds 10% to the demand fulfillment and helps population growth) and although we don't have much in the way of time for our first few tasks they aren't difficult. Spend your innovation points wisely - if you can unlock all 9 locomotives during this level you will earn yourself:

TRAINing Day in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotives from the 1850s
  • Unlocked by 378 tracked gamers (19% - TA Ratio = 2.29) 1,994

We start with a station in San Francisco and we want to connect Shasta to the north and Carson City to the east. The first thing to do is build a station at the nearby Cattle Farm, and then in Sacramento, and connect these up. Proceed to build a station in Shasta and the nearby Logging business, and then the Cotton Farm. Once again, connect these all to your network. As soon as we have the cash, build stations at Carson City and the Wheat Farm north of it. Again, connect these to your network. Task 1 will now be complete and your trains will be working on Tasks 2 & 3 which are transport 200 Freight cars & 5,000 Passengers - so continue adding stations to rural businesses and connecting them while your trains do the work. I would also connect Gold Beach and the Wheat Farm nearby now so we can gain a bit more income.

Once the first 3 Tasks are done, Shasta and Carson City will start producing Gold and 200 cars which needs to be exported to San Francisco for Task 4. They will only request 1 or 2 carloads a day, to begin with. As the population of San Francisco grows so will the demand for Gold, and Task 5 is to reach 100,000 population in Carson City. In addition, as Sacramento is between these and is a good city to grow, we really want to focus on growing these 3 cities for now so make sure they are well supplied. Once Sacramento reaches level 5 (90,000 population) build a distillery so we can begin producing Alcohol as we need to produce 200 loads of this for Task 6.

Back to Task 4 and the Gold. It's very important here to add trains from Carson City and Shasta to San Francisco, and in the route options for these trains set them to only carry Gold. In my plays of this level I have found without doing this Gold doesn't seem to be shipped out enough. Task 5 - as mentioned before - is for 100,000 population in Carson City, so make sure it is well supplied. Build a tunnel from Sacramento as soon as possible to shorten the routes and enable it to be supplied quicker. Remember to build a museum when the population reaches 60,000 to aid with the rest of the growing.

Once Task 4 is either complete or well on the way - and Carson City, San Francisco & Sacramento are growing well - then once we have a distillery in Sacramento, expand the distillery to level 2 or even level 3. Add plenty of trains to bring the required Sugar & Fruit to it, and then turn your attention to Task 7 which is to establish an express connection between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Build a station in Los Angeles, expand the station at San Francisco so we can use a dedicated line and connect the 2 with as direct a rail line as possible (it will probably cost around $2,500,000). Add a train that has an express classification and set it to 'Passengers & Mail Only' - before long this should be Task 7 done.

Task 8 is the most difficult one of this scenario as we have to get 8 cities to an 80,000+ population. San Francisco, Sacramento & Carson City should be your first 3, Shasta and Los Angeles will be your next 2. The final 3 are personal preference - but if you want to complete the 2nd of the optional tasks we want to expand east from Carson City to Winnemucca, Elko & Salt Lake City. Once we have expanded to Salt Lake City, add a couple of trains to run between it and San Francisco to work on the Task. Build 2 or 3 warehouses outside of Elko and set them to store the first 12/18 goods that cities would want. Add supply trains from the businesses or cities that produce them so we can keep them stocked. Next, add 3 trains each (using separate lines at the warehouse to supply the 3 cities), set them to 'freight only' and they will supply the cities from here.

While we are working on growing the cities keep your eye on Los Angeles. Once it hits 60,000 you can build a university there to complete the 1st optional task. Another thing we can do while the cities are growing is to look for an Indian Camp. There is normally one south of Milford, which is south of Salt Lake City. Build a rail line across the Indian camp (it will appear as an orange circle). Compensate them for making them move and the following achievement will be yours:

Tent camp in Railway Empire
Tent camp20 (10)
Relocate an Indian village
  • Unlocked by 508 tracked gamers (25% - TA Ratio = 1.98) 1,994

To complete this scenario now we have to have 8 cities at over 80,000 population at once. If any of the cities then drops below that number we will have to re-grow the city back to over 80,000. Once we achieve that it will be scenario complete! You should now unlock the following achievement:

Let's go! in Railway Empire
Let's go!32 (10)
First scenario successfully completed
  • Unlocked by 193 tracked gamers (10% - TA Ratio = 3.21) 1,994

And most likely during this mission, you will also have earned:

Traffic chaos in Railway Empire
100 locomotives in use
  • Unlocked by 373 tracked gamers (19% - TA Ratio = 2.31) 1,994

I completed this scenario with only 1 optional task in December 1860 with a 28.1 rating - so if you're aiming for president rating you're looking at completing it by the end of 1858 with 1 optional task or maybe mid-1859 with both optional tasks done.

Pacific Coast

For this scenario, we start in San Francisco and we have 8 compulsory and 2 optional tasks. 1 of the optional tasks will be completed without needing to be thought about, and I would advise checking which competitor has a station at Portland in the north as soon as you start.

Start off by building a station in Sacramento and connecting it together. Connect 5 rural businesses to complete Task 1, then set about buying shares in whoever owns the rails to the north as we need to get this person bought out ASAP for one of our compulsory tasks (don't spend all your money though, make sure you still have spare cash to expand).

Continue connecting rural businesses to your network while also expanding north to Redding, Gold Beach and also across to Carson City as soon as you can afford to. Get freight trains transporting goods from your rural stations and between the cities as we need to get $300,000 quarterly freight revenue for Task 2 (try and prioritize fulfilling San Francisco's demand as we do need to expand the population there). Note that it is revenue - not profit - so as long as you have transported $300,000 worth of freight in a single quarter you will complete Task 2 regardless of if your trains were actually profitable.

Remember that we can use innovation points to gain higher freight income too!

As mentioned above Task 3 is to grow the population of San Francisco and we need to grow it to 120,000. Keep an eye on it and make sure it is well supplied (growing other cities - at least a little - will help as we can build industries there to manufacture goods that San Francisco will want as the population gets higher). Once the population reaches 60,000, make sure to build a Museum to boost fulfillment by 10%.

Whilst San Francisco is growing and we are steadily buying out the competitor to the north (or you have already bought them out) we want to start expanding southwards to Los Angeles and then San Diego. Once we have a station in San Diego - and our competitor has been bought out - we need to build a station in Portland, then we need a line (new or using our existing lines) that goes between Portland and San Diego and has a total distance of fewer than 779 miles for Task 4.

I found that the most direct line between the 2 cities was around 750 miles, so there isn't too much room for error on this one. Personally, I had an almost straight route from San Diego to Sacramento and then used my existing rails up to just before Redding - where the line then branched off - and went straight up to Portland which came in at 774 miles. Have a play around with what you can afford and once you find a route that is under 779 miles, we are halfway through this scenario.

By now we should have the simple optional task of a total rail length of 779 miles completed and be looking at Tasks 5&6 which are for 750,000 people to be connected to our network and having 50 trains running on the network. Both of these tasks can be overlooked for the most part as they will no doubt come naturally as we work on Task 7.

Task 7 is for an express connection between San Francisco and Salt Lake City. We should have a station in Carson City, so we can now look at expanding to the east into Winnemucca, Elko and then Salt Lake City (there should already be a competitor with a line built across these cities and it should be the competitor which is related to optional task 2 and buying 50% of their shares). If you wish to complete optional task 2, I would suggest trying to buy out this competitor now as it will also rid us of his rails that are in the way.

Once we have a station in Salt Lake City, add an express train to run between it and San Francisco so that as soon as the game recognizes it as an express line Task 7 will be complete.

If you still need to add more trains or connect more people to your network for Tasks 5&6, now would be the time to do it. You have the city of Eugene between Redding and Portland and also to the west of Portland is Baker City and Nampa. South of Carson City, you have Bodie and Kingman, and south of Salt Lake City, there is Millard.

Once we get to this point, we can look at Task 8 for buying 30% of a certain competitor's shares. This is the only compulsory task left to do. We want to buy 29% of the shares and then save the game. Now, build universities in all the cities that can have them to boost your innovation points as we want to unlock the 9 available trains of this era to unlock:

Railway to Hell in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotives from the 1890s
  • Unlocked by 183 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.30) 1,994

Once you unlock this achievement (or if you already had it), load the save from earlier and buy the 1% of competitor shares we need for Task 8 and it will be scenario complete!

Personally, I completed this in November 1900 with 9/10 tasks complete and gained a rating of 40.7

During one of these scenarios, you should have earned the following achievement if you didn't already get it in the campaign:

Sunny boy in Railway Empire
Sunny boy50 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The West" as president
  • Unlocked by 80 tracked gamers (4% - TA Ratio = 4.99) 1,994

If you haven't got a president rating on either of these I would recommend trying again on the Pacific Coast scenario. It's easier to earn on that one.

For the scenarios, we will be using 'normal' rails and the 'trainiac' pause mode unless otherwise stated. If you feel you can complete any scenario with the AI on a higher difficulty then it will increase your chances of obtaining a president rating if you need it.

Northern Passage

This is one of the scenarios in which your money dropping into negative at any point will fail you. There are 8 compulsory and 2 optional tasks. Task 2 is the hardest task of this scenario and is the only one you want to focus on until it is complete.

We start with a station in Miles City and we need to focus on Task 2 straight off the bat which is to achieve a quarterly profit of $800,000. Use any spare innovation points to research the increased freight and ticket price upgrades, and if you haven't completed it by the start of October 1872 do not buy anything until 1873 as this is your last quarter to try and complete it.

Connect to the nearby town of Billings and get an 'Express goods' train going between the 2. Connect the Grain Farm nearby to Miles City and connect the Cattle Ranch near Billings to Billings - and then get trains supplying the 2 cities. Once this is done, make a 'Freight' train between Miles City and Billings and look at expanding west to Gardiner when you can afford it. Once Gardiner is connected get an 'Express goods' train running between it and Billings.

Now you should look further west to Idaho Falls. Connect it and get another 'Express goods' train running from it to Gardiner. Now, to the south of Idaho Falls is a Grain Farm which we can connect to supply Gardiner - and to the west of Idaho Falls is a Cattle Ranch to supply Idaho Falls. Once these 2 cities are supplied get a 'Freight' train running between the 2.

Keep an eye on your cities and if they are not being supplied quickly enough add more trains to your lines from the businesses to the cities - and also trains to transport freight between cities.

Using innovation points, you want to unlock the 'Reno' locomotive for express use and the 'Inyo' locomotive for freight use - once you have most of the upgrades for increasing freight and ticket prices. Task 1 for connecting 100,000 people to your network should be either complete or close to complete by now, and we want to continue expanding to more cities so we can gain the income from shipping passengers & mail around to work on Task 2.

All of the time keep an eye on your cities to make sure they are supplied with raw materials that the industries can use and add trains to routes that need them. Ensure that Gardiner is supplied well as you need it to reach 60,000 population as soon as possible. Of course, this contradicts focusing on Task 2 - but the goods that will be supplying Gardiner will be adding to your income too so it will help.

To the west of the Cattle Ranch that supplies Idaho Falls is Nampa - which we can connect and supply using the same Cattle Ranch. Then we can get an 'Express' train running between those 2 cities. To the north of Nampa is Baker City, and a Cotton Farm which can supply it. Again, get an 'Express' train running between those 2 as well. Now get a couple of 'Freight' trains to run from Baker City - Nampa and Baker City - Idaho Falls.

You should be in or close to 1872 by now - so you need to keep your eye on the date so that if Task 2 is still incomplete by the start of October 1872 you don't buy anything in that last quarter to hopefully complete it. If you fail - as I did once or twice - then it's just a case of trying again and hopefully next time you will get lucky with being offered a connection bonus (only take the connection bonus in your final quarter if the bonus is worth more than the cost of the station + the rail to connect it).

To the north of Baker City is Spokane which we can connect up now for Task 4 - and once Gardiner is up to 60,000 Population you can build the 'Yellowstone Office' attraction there to complete Task 3. Tasks 5 and 6 don't really need thinking about as they will come through the natural progress of this scenario. Now you should be earning some good money so you can look at buying out your competitor - which is Task 8 - but once their tracks are out of the way you can expand to the southwest and connect Kingman to your network for optional task 1.

Optional task 2 should be completed at some point due to you using express trains between your cities, which leaves us with just Task 7 for earning a quarterly revenue of $2,000,000. For this you need to expand to new cities, grow them a bit and get many, many mail trains running around your network. Make sure you have all of the mail price increase innovations unlocked as well.

While you are expanding and creating mail trains, you can use spare innovation points to unlock all 10 of the locomotives from this era to net yourself:

Train or Die in Railway Empire
Train or Die101 (30)
Unlock all locomotives from the 1870s
  • Unlocked by 175 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.37) 1,994

Once you complete Task 7 it should be scenario complete!

Rocky Mountain Mining

This scenario is far easier than the previous one, although it may feel very slow in the beginning. Once again, there are 10 scenarios to complete, 8 of which are compulsory which leaves 2 optional.

The only Tasks that are likely to be any trouble are Tasks 1 and 3 - connecting 120,000 people to your network (as you only have 2 years to do it) and achieving a quarterly profit of $2,500,000 (which you have 5 years to complete).

Start by connecting to the Cattle Ranch north of Cheyenne and put a couple of trains on the route. Follow this with stations in Denver and Raton to the south, and get 'Freight' trains set up between Cheyenne and both of those. Now connect to the nearby Corn Farm and use it to supply Denver and Cheyenne. Then build a station at the Iron Mine to the west of Cheyenne (although it is of no use at the minute, we can start shipping Iron soon and we want to expand that direction at some point anyway).

Build stations at Casper and the Coal Mine just west of it. Connect these to the Iron Mine we have a station at and set up a train to run between Casper and Cheyenne with the loading option set as 'Automatic' for now.

Soon we will be told about Elko and Cheyenne having export warehouses. As soon as it is mentioned, get a train each running from the Iron Mine and the Coal Mine to Cheyenne. When you can afford it, build stations at Rock Springs and the Logging Business nearby. Connect these and set up a supply of Lumber to Rock Springs & Cheyenne, and get a Freight train between the 2 cities as well.

Use your innovation points to unlock both the Berkshire and Mikado trains when you can - we are going to use the Berkshire for Express trains and the Mikado for Freight. Of course - at this point - we don't actually have any Express trains yet, but it wont be long before we can start adding them. Once you have the Mikado create all future freight trains with it and replace your 'Old Maude' trains with Mikado's as and when you can afford to do so.

When Cheyenne needs it, connect the Sugar and Fruit Farms near Denver to your network and get trains supplying Cheyenne with those. The Dairy north of Casper wants to be supplying Cheyenne too.

Time to start making Express trains. Get a few of these running between all of your cities to transport the Passengers and Mail to increase our income, and make sure the cities are well supplied with the materials/goods they want. Another thing to keep an eye on is the Iron and Coal Mines - if they are reaching capacity quickly then add more trains to the line to get the resources transported to Cheyenne.

Buy the Jackson Pit Iron Mine south of Cheyenne when you can. Connect it to your network and set trains up to take the Iron to Cheyenne. Expand the business as quickly as you can until they reach production of at least 5.5 car loads per week and get the all the Iron to Cheyenne. This will not only help us with Tasks but also earn us plenty of money. Do the same with the Malone Pit Coal Mine to the north of Cheyenne.

Tasks 1&2 should have been quietly completed while we were busy building our network - and in trying to raise income for Task 3 we have been working on Tasks 4,5,6,7 & 8 all at once!

Build a station in Salt Lake City when you can and connect it to Rock Springs. Get it supplied and set up Express trains for it, doing the same as you continue to expand. To the west of Salt Lake City is Elko, to the south is Milford and to the north we have Idaho Falls and Gardiner. Get all these cities connected, supplied and set up with Express trains. This will complete Task 5 for you once the cities have done a little expanding. You can also create an Express train to run direct between Elko and Cheyenne to complete the first compulsory Task.

There is another Iron Mine to the west of Casper that we want to buy - go ahead and buy it when you can, then connect it to your network and get the materials transported to Cheyenne. Once again upgrade it as soon as you can until it is producing and least 5.5 carloads per week.

This should soon complete Tasks 6,7 & 8 - leaving us with just Tasks 3 & 4 to complete. We can now start connecting additional rural businesses to our network to supply our towns - if you haven't done so already - which will complete Task 4. As you should now be earning plenty of money, start buying out 1 of your competitors and once you buy them out you will complete optional task 2.

We should still have Task 3 to finish off this scenario. A really good way to earn money on this scenario is to keep buying the Iron and Coal businesses then get them expanded to maximum and get the materials transported to Cheyenne or Elko as we now have that city connected (this earns you income from producing the materials as well as transporting them). If you still need additional income, buy other rural businesses that you are using to supply your towns as these will always earn you a profit. You can also add new and more direct lines for your Express trains to use as this will earn you extra money.

In this last phase of the scenario, you can use your innovation points to unlock all the locomotives of this era - if that is an achievement you need - which will earn you:

Train Jam in Railway Empire
Train Jam97 (30)
Unlock all locomotives from the 1910s
  • Unlocked by 192 tracked gamers (10% - TA Ratio = 3.22) 1,994

In unlocking that achievement you will also earn:

The future of the railway in Railway Empire
First diesel locomotive purchased
  • Unlocked by 445 tracked gamers (22% - TA Ratio = 2.11) 1,994

Remember that it is quarterly PROFIT not just income - so any spending you do will go against it. Once you get close to $2,500,000, sit through a quarter of the year without buying anything and you should complete Task 3!

Scenario complete!

Personally, I completed this in May 1914 with only 1 optional task and finished with a rating of 40.4 so there is plenty of room to get the president rating on this one.

Hopefully, you managed to snag a president rating on one of those scenarios (most likely Rocky Mountain Mining) and if you did you will earn this achievement if you still need it:

Cowboy in Railway Empire
Cowboy51 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The North-West" as president
  • Unlocked by 78 tracked gamers (4% - TA Ratio = 5.05) 1,994

For the scenarios, we will be using 'normal' rails and the 'trainiac' pause mode unless otherwise stated. If you feel you can complete any scenario with the AI on a higher difficulty then it will increase your chances of obtaining a president rating if you need it.

Cattle Drive

Once again there are 10 tasks on this scenario. 8 are compulsory and 2 are optional.

Once you start, turn your attention to the first 3 tasks as they are all linked (Deliver 40 cattle, Produce 100 Meat & Deliver 60 Meat). Of course, to produce Meat we need to own a Meat Industry. There is a Meat Industry in the starting city of Sioux Falls which we want to purchase, and we want stations in Pierre and the Cattle Ranch to the North West of it. Set up 2 or 3 trains to take cattle to Sioux Falls and then build a station in Omaha and connect this so that you can add a train to take Meat to Omaha once your Industry starts producing it.

When you can afford it, connect the Cattle Ranch to Rapid City, and then connect Rapid City to Pierre via the Corn Farm between them. Set up a train or 2 to take Cattle to Rapid City, and a train each to take Corn to Rapid City and Pierre. Then set up a train to take Meat to Omaha.

Tasks 7 & 8 are for buying 30% and then 100% of your competitor's company and their rail lines will soon be in the way as you look to expand - so now is a good time to start buying a couple of shares in your competitor.

If you look south of Omaha there is a Cattle Ranch you should buy when you can afford it. Connect it and get Cattle transported from it to Sioux Falls and upgrade your Meat Industry if you need to. Tasks 1 & 2 should be done or nearly done by now and Task 3 won't be far behind. Once you have bought the Ranch south of Omaha, you will be making progress towards Task 5 for producing 100 cattle and Task 4 should be at 2/4 Cattle business connected. Task 6 is the same as Task 3 but a much larger amount (1000).

Save up some money and buy the Furniture business in Wichita. Demolish it and make a Meat Industry and then connect it to your nearby ranch to have more Meat being produced here - which you can transport to Omaha (It may be time to upgrade your ranch). Once this is all set up, connect Wichita to Oklahoma City to the south and unlock the Rensselaer with innovation points if you haven't already. You can now start putting express trains all around to earn some more money.

South West of Wichita is Amarillo and a Cattle Ranch. Once you can afford it, buy the Meat Industry in Amarillo. Put stations in Amarillo and at the Cattle Ranch and get Amarillo supplied - then get some trains to take the Meat to Omaha (you will only need 1 or 2 trains to take the Cattle, however, you will likely need 5 or 6 to take the Meat as the distance is much greater).

Make sure Wichita and Amarillo are well supplied so that they can grow to level 3. Then you can upgrade your industries in each of these cities to produce 9.6 carloads of Meat a week which - added on to your Industry in Sioux Falls - should net you the optional task of produce 20 loads of Meat a week.

Task 5 should be complete by now - and we should have a good income - so focus on buying out your competitor unless you are running out of time for Task 4. If you are, then just connect the final Cattle Ranch to your network to complete it and buy out your competitor afterward. Either way, once that is done you should have all tasks done except Task 6 - but as you are producing and transporting a vast amount of Meat it is only a matter of time until it is complete.

If you still need the 1850's locomotive achievement then use your innovation points to unlock all the trains from this era to unlock:

TRAINing Day in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotives from the 1850s
  • Unlocked by 378 tracked gamers (19% - TA Ratio = 2.29) 1,994

Once your 1000th load of Meat has been delivered it will be scenario complete and if you got a President rating then you will also unlock the following achievement if you don't already have it:

Lone wolf in Railway Empire
Lone wolf22 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The North" as president
  • Unlocked by 397 tracked gamers (20% - TA Ratio = 2.24) 1,994

I personally completed this in March 1856 with 9/10 tasks complete and gained a rating of 23.9, so quite a way from President, however, if that is an achievement you need then the campaign mission in The North is much easier to earn this in.

The Automobile

To continue the scenarios trend, there are 10 tasks to complete once again - although only 7 are compulsory this time, leaving 3 optional ones. I would recommend bumping the AI difficulty up to hard or very hard if you need the achievement for president rating in the midwest.

You start with a station in Chicago. Firstly you should build stations in Madison, at the nearby Reed Cattle, and the Corn Farm west of Chicago. Connect these up and get a train each supplying the 2 towns with Corn, then get a train for Madison and 2 or 3 trains to supply Chicago with Cattle. Now build a station in Rochester to the northwest of Madison and connect it, supply this town with cattle too. Task 1 should now be complete.

SAVE YOUR GAME NOW! As you may have noticed there is an empty industry slot in Rochester. We need this to be a Steel Industry (you don't need to build it yourself). Once an industry sets up, if it isn't a Steel industry then load the save you just did. If it is a Steel industry, then great - you can carry on.

Use your innovation points to unlock the Mikado (Freight) and Berkshire (Express) locomotives when you can.

Now, you will probably be short on funds but when you can afford it build a station in Duluth - north of Rochester - and a station at the nearby Wheat Farm. You want to supply Duluth with Wheat and then have a Freight train running between Duluth and Rochester. Again, you will be struggling for money but when you can, build stations at Lopez Colliery and Jones Colliery near Duluth and connect them. Use these to supply Rochester with the needed resources to start producing Steel.

Now you need to build a Warehouse near Chicago when you can (set it to store Steel, Gasoline, and Automobiles). Then start transporting Steel from Rochester to the Warehouse. Build stations in Rock Island and at the Wheat Farm south of it. Connect these up and get Rock Island supplied. Next, you want to build a station in Columbia and the Cattle Ranch near to it for supplying Columbia. Get a Freight train running between Rock Island and Columbia.

You need to get Columbia to gain a Level/Size so that you can build a Refinery - once this is done build a station at the Oil Well southwest of Columbia and get Oil transported to your Refinery. Once Columbia is producing Gasoline, set a train or 2 to transport it to your Warehouse. Start saving money now as you want to buy the Car Industry in Chicago (get yourself around $500,000 then SAVE YOUR GAME). When you try to buy the Car Industry, the AI will sometimes really want it and other times they don't even bid - but make sure you win the auction. Reload your game if you don't.

Now that you have a Car Industry and have the materials required stored nearby, connect your warehouse to Chicago and set up a train to run between Chicago and your Warehouse. Upgrade your Car Industry when you can. Soon - if not already - Tasks 2 & 3 will be complete, so you can start on growing 3 cities to 120,000 population for Task 4 (Chicago will be one of those. Personally, my other 2 were Madison and Rochester).

With all the cities you now have connected, you should have express trains running all around earning you lots of money. It would also be a good time to expand to some more cities to increase that income.

Upgrade your Car Industry to level 4 when you can as that will complete Task 7 for producing 4 loads of Automobiles a week. Connect Toledo to your Warehouse and start exporting your Automobiles - this will earn you progress towards Task 5.

If you want to try and get President Rating then read on - if not go down to TASK 6.
Connect Kansas to your network now as you want another Refinery there (expand Kansas so you can build it in the newly free industry slot, or buy out the Meat Industry and demolish it to build your Refinery). Level 1 refinery will work - although level 2 is preferable. Next, expand your Refinery in Columbia to level 3 to produce 4.8 carloads a week as this should earn you optional task 3 for producing 6 carloads of Gasoline a week.
Now if you want you can start buying out your competitor for optional task 2. This will take some time so the gain in rating for the task - versus the loss by taking more time to complete the scenario - isn't that great so the choice is yours.

TASK 6 - once you have transported 50 carloads of Automobiles all you have left to do is produce Automobiles in 2 cities. Simply find an empty industry slot - or buy an existing industry - and demolish it to build a Car Industry and it will be Scenario Complete!

You can continue playing after completing the scenario to earn yourself the following:

The age of the automobile in Railway Empire
Produce 100 railcars full of cars
  • Unlocked by 144 tracked gamers (7% - TA Ratio = 3.72) 1,994

Also if you play on you can earn yourself the following 2 achievements with your innovation points:

The future of the railway in Railway Empire
First diesel locomotive purchased
  • Unlocked by 445 tracked gamers (22% - TA Ratio = 2.11) 1,994

Train Jam in Railway Empire
Train Jam97 (30)
Unlock all locomotives from the 1910s
  • Unlocked by 192 tracked gamers (10% - TA Ratio = 3.22) 1,994

And if you managed to obtain a President Rating then this will also be yours!

Trainee mechanic in Railway Empire
Complete a scenario in region "The Midwest" as president
  • Unlocked by 90 tracked gamers (5% - TA Ratio = 4.70) 1,994

I personally completed this in July 1916 with 9/10 tasks complete and had a rating of 25.6, but I made a mistake with the auction which I have pointed out for you to avoid as it probably cost me around 6 months - 1 year of game time. With increased AI difficulty that would have given me a 38.4 rating, and with only 1 competitor it isn't much harder so that's what I would recommend for this scenario - although the campaign mission in this region is much easier to obtain President Rating.

For the scenarios, we will be using 'normal' rails and the 'trainiac' pause mode unless otherwise stated. If you feel you can complete any scenario with the AI on a higher difficulty then it will increase your chances of obtaining a President rating if you need it.

Black Gold

This is one of the tougher scenarios. Once you get to 1893, one of your competitors normally starts buying shares in your company very fast and aggressively - you can fail very quickly. It is also the only scenario in the south region - so it is your only opportunity to earn:

Oil Tycoon in Railway Empire
Oil Tycoon45 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The South" as president
  • Unlocked by 99 tracked gamers (5% - TA Ratio = 4.48) 1,994

Once again there are 10 tasks to compete - 8 are compulsory and 2 are optional. You will complete 1 of the optional tasks no doubt as it is simply for connecting 350,000 people to your network.

We start with a station in Kansas City and our first objective is to grow the population to 60,000. Build a station at the nearby Wheat Field and build a large station in the middle of the nearby Sugar and Corn Farms. Use these to supply Kansas. Connect Salina and Wichita when you can and get Express trains running between your cities.
Connect Wichita to its nearby Cattle Ranch and supply it with Cattle. Now you can get a Freight train to transport between Kansas and Wichita.

Next, you want to build a station in Fayetteville. Connect the nearby Logging and join Fayetteville to your large station. Use the logging to supply both Fayetteville and Kansas, then set up a freight train and an express train to run between the 2 cities. You can also use your large station to supply Fayetteville.
Soon Task 1 will be complete and Kansas will have an empty industry slot (this normally ends up as a Weaving Industry) and the best supply for this is the Cotton Farm to the southwest of Wichita - so build a station there and a station at the nearby Oil Well. Get trains running from both of these to Kansas.

So now Kansas should be growing and Oil is being delivered to work on Tasks 4 and 8, we can look at Task 2 for connecting 6 cities. From your station at the Cotton Farm, expand down to Amarillo, Lubbock, Odessa, and Abilene. Build stations at the Wheat Farm near Amarillo and the Cattle Ranch near Lubbock. Use the Cattle Ranch to supply Odessa and Abilene and use the Wheat Farm to supply Amarillo and Lubbock. Set up some Freight trains to travel between Amarillo - Odessa, and Lubbock - Abilene.

Use your innovation points to unlock the Prairie 2-6-2 locomotive as this is an excellent train for both express and freight duties, then use any other innovation points to unlock the increased freight revenue.

Task 2 will be complete now and there is a big time gap for us to complete Task 3. In terms of completing the tasks, it will not be a problem from here - you should be nearing the middle/end of 1892 now, so build stations in Denver and Austin. Connect these and add a couple of express trains. Build a rail line between Denver and Fayetteville when you can afford it. At the start of 1893, a new Oil Well opens up near Denver so build a station there and then purchase it when you can. Don't add any trains to this line until you own it as the price of purchasing it will go up. Once you own the Oil Well get a couple of trains taking the goods to Kansas.

There are now 2 ways to complete this scenario and the choice is yours - President rating can be obtained both ways. It is a good idea to save the game here so you can come back to this point if you fail or if you want to try the other method.

The Buy-Out Way (Longer but with less chance of failing)

This method is the more boring one as we need to buy out the competitor that is trying to buy you out. Just focus on adding a few trains when needed to help supply anywhere that may need it and keep buying shares in your competitor.

The increase in playing time with this method gives a great opportunity to earn yourself the following achievement should you still need it:

Railway to Hell in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotives from the 1890s
  • Unlocked by 183 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.30) 1,994

Once you have bought them out we can continue with our tasks (Task 4 and optional task 1 should now be complete).

The Build Quickly Way (Shorter but riskier)

This method literally just skips buying your competitor out in the hopes you can complete your tasks before you are bought out. This is achieved by expanding quickly enough that your company value grows so fast they can't afford your shares - or you can get lucky and both competitors buy shares in you so that neither actually buy you out.

Whether you chose to buy out your competitor or not, you should now start by upgrading your Oil Well to the biggest size. You'll also want to get enough trains transporting to Kansas to cope with the supply of Oil you now have - which will complete Task 5 for you (Task 4 and optional task 1 should now also be complete).

To complete Task 6 you need to own at least 3 Oil Wells and have 2 of them upgraded to level 5. The other should be at level 4 and they need to have room to produce the goods for you to make enough in a week. Make sure that the supply is being transported to either Kansas or another city that is requesting Oil to give space.

With only Tasks 3, 6 & 8 to go - Task 8 is currently being done by your trains - now is the time to try and get a quarterly revenue of $2,500,000. Houston should be requesting Oil by now. An Oil Well should pop up near Houston soon - if not already - so build a large station in Houston and at the Oil Well (buy it if you don't already own it and upgrade it to level 5). Get enough trains running between the 2 to cope with the supply. Build a line between Houston and the Oil Well near Denver as this line is shorter for getting your Oil exported. Once again, make sure you have enough trains running to cope with the supply. The 3rd Oil Well you should use can be either Elliot Area (east of Albuquerque) or Edison Field if it has appeared yet (south of Albuquerque). Buy this Oil Well and upgrade it to level 5, and then build a large station there as well as a large station at Albuquerque. Once again, make sure you have enough trains to cope with the supply.

For $2,500,000 revenue I noted that a full train running to Albuquerque from Edison Field was earning around $25,000 - so at that rate you need to export 100 full trains of Oil in a single Quarter (it may help for you to make a direct rail line to Kansas from the Oil Well northeast of Amarillo - so that the trains don't get caught up with others).

Once Tasks 6 and 8 are completed all you need to do is build a total rail length of 4,156 miles. The easiest way to do this is just placing rails anywhere (it doesn't have to be pretty as we are just trying to complete the scenario now). Once you have built enough it should be scenario complete!

During the scenario, this achievement will have unlocked at some point:

Go with the flow in Railway Empire
Produce 100 railcars of oil in one game
  • Unlocked by 228 tracked gamers (11% - TA Ratio = 2.95) 1,994

And hopefully, you got a high enough rating to earn yourself:

Oil Tycoon in Railway Empire
Oil Tycoon45 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The South" as president
  • Unlocked by 99 tracked gamers (5% - TA Ratio = 4.48) 1,994

Using the Buy Out method I personally completed this in April 1899, completing all 10 tasks with a rating of 38.8.

Vulture

Once again there are 10 tasks to complete with 8 compulsory and 2 optional. If you take a look at your task list when you start this scenario, it would seem this is a ridiculously easy scenario to complete with our first 3 tasks to grow the cities of Memphis, Nashville & Jackson to 60,000, 50,000 & 40,000 population each.

We start with a station in St Louis. Memphis and Nashville are to the south & southeast of St Louis and then Jackson is south of Memphis (one of your competitors will already have a station here). Get all three of these cities connected to your network and start supplying them with the 5 needed goods to reach the population sizes required.

While the 3 cities are growing you can expand east/southeast of Nashville to the cities of Knoxville, Atlanta, and Montgomery. Start growing these cities too as it will help towards Task 4 (Deploy 40 trains) and Task 5 (Connect 600,000 population to your network). Once these 6 cities are growing well and bringing in a good income, you can look at buying shares in your competitors as Task 8 is to buy out a specific competitor and optional task 2 is for buying out all competitors.

It won't be long before optional task 1 (transport 10,000 packages) is complete and Tasks 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 will soon follow. Not long after that you should be able to buy out all your competitors (for reference I bought out all competitors in August 1872) which will complete Task 8 and optional task 2.

This leaves us without any worries and only Task 6 (Quarterly profit of $4,000,000) and Task 7 (Own 20 industries or businesses) to complete. Now it is time to expand your network into every city on the map which will earn you the following achievement if you don't already have it:

Lost my train of thought in Railway Empire
Connect all cities in one game
  • Unlocked by 467 tracked gamers (23% - TA Ratio = 2.06) 1,994

Once you have stations in every city, it is time to supply them all and start growing them to earn more money - whilst also buying business and industries to make even more money. Once Task 6 is complete, you can choose here to only buy 19 business and industries until you use your innovation points to unlock all the locomotives of this era for the following achievement if you still need it:

Train or Die in Railway Empire
Train or Die101 (30)
Unlock all locomotives from the 1870s
  • Unlocked by 175 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.37) 1,994

If you did need it or already had it you can now buy another business to complete Task 7 and it will be scenario complete. With such a short and easy scenario you should also have earned a president rating unlocking you the following achievement:

Hillbilly in Railway Empire
Hillbilly45 (10)
Complete a scenario in region "The South-East" as president
  • Unlocked by 99 tracked gamers (5% - TA Ratio = 4.48) 1,994

I personally completed this scenario in January 1876 with all 10 tasks completed and had a rating of 48.1.

Once this scenario is complete you can build museums in 5 cities for the following achievement if you still need it:

That belongs in a museum in Railway Empire
Build 5 different museums in one game
  • Unlocked by 300 tracked gamers (15% - TA Ratio = 2.57) 1,994

And then you can demolish those and build 10 universities for the following achievement:

Eager to learn in Railway Empire
Build 10 different universities in one game
  • Unlocked by 209 tracked gamers (10% - TA Ratio = 3.08) 1,994

If you also buy 10 industries before you exit this game you can also earn yourself the following achievement if needed:

Egomaniac in Railway Empire
Egomaniac33 (20)
Own 10 industries
  • Unlocked by 711 tracked gamers (36% - TA Ratio = 1.67) 1,994

For the scenarios, we will be using 'normal' rails and the 'trainiac' pause mode unless otherwise stated. If you feel you can complete any scenario with the AI on a higher difficulty then it will increase your chances of obtaining a President rating if you need it.

Metropolis

This scenario mostly revolves around growing the population of New York. There are 2 optional tasks which are for you to decide if you want to do them or not - and 8 compulsory tasks which will end with New York having a population of 250,000.

To start with, we need to get the population of New York up to 80,000. We need to supply it with the 5 basic goods - and as New York already has 2 industry slots filled we need to connect to cities that are producing Beer and Meat. If you look around, there are no close cities producing Meat - however as Baltimore produces clothing and has a free industry slot, connect to Baltimore and build a Meat industry there. Connect a Cattle Ranch to your network and supply New York with Meat. Next, connect to the Logging Business just north of New York so that the industries there are being supplied. The nearest city producing Beer is Albany and this needs to be supplied from the Grain Farm west of New York - so connect these next. Just west of Albany is a Corn Farm - once you connect this to your network, all 5 basic goods can be supplied to New York.

Now your attention should turn to supplying Baltimore with Cloth. Unfortunately, there are no cities producing Cloth - so we need to build an industry to produce it ourselves. Albany fits the bill as it has a Cotton Farm nearby, so we need to grow Albany to 40,000 population and build a Weaving Factory. Once you have your Weaving Factory and have connected up to the Cotton Farm you can set up a supply of Cloth to Baltimore, and then a supply of Clothing to New York (you will need to purchase and expand the Tailors in Baltimore).

Once New York reaches 60,000 population, you can build a Museum to give an extra 10% fulfilled demand which will help to grow it. Task 1 should soon be completed and Task 2 is on its way. Task 3 is simply to have 20 trains deployed - so we can turn our attention to Task 4 which is to deliver 100 loads of Alcohol to New York. Again, there is no city producing Alcohol so we will need to set up an industry to do this. Syracuse is a good city for this as there is Sugar to the west and Fruit to the southeast. Connect to Syracuse and supply it with Grain and Corn to grow it to 40,000 population, and then build a Distillery. Connect the King Preserve and Sugar Plantation to start producing Alcohol, then supply this to New York.

At some point soon - if not already - New York should reach population 180,000 - providing you kept it well supplied - and so Task 7 will be complete. Task 5 (to have an average balance of $10,000 on 25 different train lines) should also be completed soon, if not already. Due to New York taking in so many goods and your industries being well supplied, a Quarterly profit of $2,000,000 should not be too far from here either and so Task 6 will be complete.

This should just leave you with 100 loads of Clothing and Alcohol to be delivered to New York, and a population of 250,000. As the city should be well supplied with these 2 items as well as all other goods it should just be a matter of time until all 3 tasks are complete.

While you are waiting you can focus on unlocking all the locomotives with your innovation points to earn yourself the following achievement if you still need it:

Track to the Future in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotives of the era 1830
  • Unlocked by 383 tracked gamers (19% - TA Ratio = 2.28) 1,994

Once you have delivered 100 loads of Clothing and Alcohol to New York and it has reached a population of 250,000 it will be Scenario Complete!

I personally completed this scenario in December 1834 with 9/10 tasks complete and a rating of 34.9.

The Commodore

This scenario once again starts in New York and there are 8 compulsory tasks to do. The optional tasks are up to you as you probably already have the President rating achievement for this region.

This scenario hinges on completing Task 3 - the rest of it is easy. Once you start, build stations in Albany, Syracuse, and Buffalo. Then, get an express train running between New York and Buffalo as soon as possible. Next, look at connecting rural businesses to expand your cities focusing on Buffalo the most. Once Buffalo hits 60,000 population, build an attraction in the city to increase visitors. Connect to Pittsburgh from Buffalo to complete Task 1 and Task 4 will follow shortly after.

As you are growing your cities, add a couple more express trains from New York to Buffalo - use your innovation points to unlock express trains as well as the upgrades which increase passengers in your cities. Task 2 should be completed soon and you can't really do much more to help Task 3 - so focus on connecting another 7 cities to your network for Task 6. Going west from Pittsburgh to Toledo is a good start, and once you have connected and supplied Toledo, have a look at which 2 competitors are operating around Indianapolis/Toledo and buy them out so you can expand to Indianapolis and Grand Rapids more easily. This will complete Task 8 - and if you choose to buy out the 3rd competitor too then you will complete optional task 2.

Once you have connected 12 cities to your network - which completes Task 6 - and bought out 2 or 3 of your competitors you can look towards gaining a company value of $40,000,000. The easiest way of doing this is to buy industries and businesses that are being utilized - as well as supplying all the cities with goods - and have fast express trains. Once this is done it will complete Task 7.

Hopefully, Task 3 was completed, which only leaves you with Task 5 (total network length of 7,793 miles). If, however, it didn't complete all you can do is try again.

Before doing Task 5 you can use your innovation points to unlock all the locomotives of this era for the following achievement if needed:

TRAINing Day in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotives from the 1850s
  • Unlocked by 378 tracked gamers (19% - TA Ratio = 2.29) 1,994

The quickest way of doing Task 5 is to just build rails anywhere and everywhere, but if you still need the following achievement you can build stations and connect 20 rural business to your network to earn:

Favoritism in Railway Empire
Favoritism33 (20)
20 rural businesses connected
  • Unlocked by 728 tracked gamers (37% - TA Ratio = 1.65) 1,994

Once you have built 7,793 miles of track it is Scenario Complete!

I completed this in May 1855 with all 10 tasks complete and got a rating of 40.4.

Hunger For Raw Materials

This scenario is pretty easy compared to some of the earlier ones we have faced. It mainly revolves around growing cities (Task 8) and owning industries (Task 4). There are 8 compulsory tasks and 2 optional - which, again, you can attempt if you wish.

We start in Charleston - which is already a decent size - and we can see it has a trade warehouse which will come in useful later. Our first 2 tasks are to connect 5 cities to our network and gain a company value of $10,000,000. Jacksonville to the south and Augusta to the west are the first 2 you will want to connect. Once they are connected, get all 3 cities supplied with the 5 basic goods to grow. Now, look northeast from Charleston to Wilmington and Norfolk as these are the next 2 cities you want to connect and supply - this will complete Task 1.

Between the 4 cities you have connected, there will be 7 industry slots available as they grow past 40,000 and 90,000 population each - and at 60,000 population you can build a museum in each of them. Keep an eye on these cities and make sure you establish an industry in each of these - making sure that you build a Refinery in Augusta or Wilmington as it will give you 7/10 towards Task 4. Once you have a Refinery, connect the city it is located in with the Anderson Drill Hole north of Charleston, and supply it with Oi. Next, start transporting the Petroleum you are producing to Charleston as this will work towards Task 7.

Alongside watching your cities, you can expand north of Norfolk into Washington and Baltimore now - start supplying and growing them. As Washington reaches 40,000 population, build a Steel Industry and supply it with Coal from Hobbs Quarry to the north and Iron from Franklin Quarry to the southwest. Transport the Steel you are producing to Charleston as this will gain you progress on Task 6.

Some of your 7 cities may stall on growth around 70,000 to 90,000 population. If this is the case, then just supply each of them with some Vegetables, Fruit, Milk, and Sugar to help them hit 100,000. Remember to add museums in each of these to help with growth.

Tasks 2, 3 & 5 should have all been completed by now. Once Baltimore and Washington reach 90,000 population, you can place an Industry in each of them to complete Task 4. Once you reach 5/10 or higher towards Task 8, take a look at the cities of New York, Albany and Atlanta as your competitors should have been growing these. Providing that is the case, you can expand to these cities now and add museums to each - once they all reach 100,000 population it will complete Task 8.

Task 7 and 8 will most likely have been completed by now - however, if they haven't, then an easy way to help them along is to build a warehouse that will hold Petroleum and Steel, then transport the goods here. Whilst you are waiting for the goods to be transported, there is another opportunity to earn the following achievement for unlocking all locomotives of this era with your innovation points if you still need it:

Railway to Hell in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotives from the 1890s
  • Unlocked by 183 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.30) 1,994

Once 100 each of Steel and Petroleum has been transported it will be Scenario Complete!

I completed this in September 1895 with 8 tasks complete and got a rating of 36.1.

Hopefully you earned a President Rating in one of the 3 scenarios to net you the following achievement, however, if you still need it I would recommend the 2nd Campaign mission as this is the easiest place to earn it:

Megalomaniac in Railway Empire
Complete a scenario in region "The East" as president
  • Unlocked by 218 tracked gamers (11% - TA Ratio = 3.02) 1,994

And providing you now have the required 11 scenarios complete you will earn:

Perfectionist in Railway Empire
Complete all scenarios
  • Unlocked by 53 tracked gamers (3% - TA Ratio = 6.13) 1,994

This concludes the main walkthrough of the game, thank you for reading this. Hopefully, it helped you earn all 55 achievements in the game.

There is a mop up page for a few achievements that might have been missed due to bad luck from what the game has offered you during your playthrough.

To get the achievement for 5 city bonuses in one game you want to start a free mode game with no competitors (any region). Connect 2 cities and supply them with the 5 basic goods to grow, as well as an express train or 2 between the cities. Connection bonuses and new industry bonuses both count towards this.

Now you have a decent income, you want to just sit back until a city connection bonus is offered. When the bonus appears, you want to connect the city offering the bonus to your network and supply it with the 5 basic goods. Unless a bonus for a new industry is offered (build anything if it is), do this another 4 times and the achievement will be yours:

No dough, no show! in Railway Empire
Receive 5 city bonuses in one game
  • Unlocked by 240 tracked gamers (12% - TA Ratio = 2.88) 1,994

These next 5 achievements - should you need them - are super easy. Simply start a sandbox game (any region) and purchase all the rural businesses on the map which will unlock the following 2 achievements:

Egomaniac in Railway Empire
Egomaniac33 (20)
Own 10 industries
  • Unlocked by 711 tracked gamers (36% - TA Ratio = 1.67) 1,994

Monopolist in Railway Empire
Monopolist45 (30)
Produce 80% of an item in the entire region
  • Unlocked by 876 tracked gamers (44% - TA Ratio = 1.50) 1,994

Then, connect up some cities with businesses so they can start producing Meat and Beer. Once they are, build warehouses near 10 cities (not linked to them) and set them to hold the following goods; Wheat, Beer, Meat, Wood, Corn & Sugar. Make sure they are well supplied as we want to use these warehouses to grow 10 cities to 60,000 population.

With warehouses set up and supplied, build rail lines from the warehouses to the cities and start supplying these cities from the warehouses. Before long you will earn:

Fill her up, please in Railway Empire
A warehouse has loaded 1000 railcars
  • Unlocked by 352 tracked gamers (18% - TA Ratio = 2.38) 1,994

Now it is just a case of adding trains here and there to make sure the supply of goods to your warehouses/cities doesn't drop. Your cities should keep expanding to 60,000 population - once they do build universities in each of these cities to earn:

Eager to learn in Railway Empire
Build 10 different universities in one game
  • Unlocked by 209 tracked gamers (10% - TA Ratio = 3.08) 1,994

Once that is done, demolish 5 of the universities and replace them with museums to earn the following:

That belongs in a museum in Railway Empire
Build 5 different museums in one game
  • Unlocked by 300 tracked gamers (15% - TA Ratio = 2.57) 1,994

If you did need any achievements from this page you should now be at 55/55 and 1000/1000 gamerscore. Congratulations!

Welcome to the walkthrough for the Mexico DLC for Railway Empire!

To obtain the 8 achievements included in this DLC pack you are looking at playing the scenario and then a 100-year free mode game. Overall you are looking at 6-10 hours of game time to finish it.

Scenario

The ¡Viva Mexico! scenario is different to the scenarios included in the standard game as it contains 19 tasks rather than the standard 10, and it has 2 separate task lists to choose from, one of which is far easier than the other to complete.

I would recommend putting the AI difficulty on Hard to make earning a president rating that little bit easier. Use the normal rail network and trainiac pause mode.

You begin this scenario with a station in Veracruz and 2 easy tasks to complete. Task 1 is simply to connect your network to Mexico City. Once this is done you can work on Task 2 which is to grow Mexico City to 55,000 population. Growing Mexico City to 55,000 only takes 5 different goods which are slightly different from the standard game (Wheat, Beer, Meat, Coffee, and Logs). Hook up lines to supply these goods to the city and then start expanding south to Oaxaca and Acapulco. You can also start supplying Oaxaca with the same 5 goods you are supplying to Mexico City to grow this city too.

Use your innovation points to unlock 'Precision Components' (100 points) and then the Stirling locomotive (300 points), then create a 'Passengers and Mail' train line between Mexico City and Veracruz - once this train has made a couple of journeys it should set a speed record and earn you the following:

Speedy Gonzalez in Railway Empire
Set a speed record with a Stirling in the Mexico scenario.
  • Unlocked by 70 tracked gamers (72% - TA Ratio = 2.50) 97

Very soon Task 2 should be complete and Task 3 presents itself which is to transport 50 loads of Coffee to Veracruz. Set up a train to do this now, then SAVE THE GAME! Once your newly created train arrives in Veracruz, you will be spoken to by Leland Stanford about ignoring Diaz and exporting 60 loads of Coffee via Acapulco (this is your alternative Task 3). Select the train that is supplying Coffee to Veracruz and change its train line to go to Acapulco instead. Create 2 more trains to deliver Coffee to Acapulco - once you have delivered 60 loads of Coffee to Acapulco you will complete the alternative Task 3 and earn the following achievement:

Open Borders in Railway Empire
Mexico scenario: associate yourself with Stanford.
  • Unlocked by 56 tracked gamers (58% - TA Ratio = 2.80) 97

Now you want to load your earlier save, ignore Stanford, and continue to deliver Coffee to Veracruz. Whilst the Coffee is being delivered you can expand east to the cities of Campeche, Merida, and Belize City and start supplying these 3 cities with the 5 goods mentioned earlier.

Once 50 loads of Coffee are delivered to Veracruz you will complete Task 3 and earn the following achievement:

Mexico First in Railway Empire
Mexico scenario: associate yourself with Diaz.
  • Unlocked by 77 tracked gamers (79% - TA Ratio = 2.38) 97

We are now presented with Tasks 4-7 which are to grow the cities of Oaxaca and Campeche to 45,000 population and to grow Merida and Belize City to 60,000 population. If you don't already have these cities connected to your network and supplied with the 5 goods they need to expand, now is the time to do this. You will need another town to supply Beer for these cities - so you want to connect to Tuxtla and use the Brewery there (you can supply and grow Tuxtla as well). Belize City and Merida may need a little more supply to grow to 60,000 and there are Vegetables and Fruit nearby which will help them reach the required population.

As soon as you complete 1 of these 4 tasks you will receive Tasks 8-11 - which is to deliver 20 loads of Weapons to each of the 4 cities you were growing. Luckily, you don't need to construct a Weapons Factory as Weapons are imported to Mexico City, so simply set up a train line from Mexico City to each of the 4 cities.

Make sure your cities stay above 60% fulfillment and while they are growing you can connect the city of Tampico to Mexico City. Then connect the city of Nuevo Laredo to Tampico so that you are ready for your next tasks. Finally, connect the city of San Luis Potosi to the Milk/Coffee rural business north of Mexico City. Start growing San Luis Potosi and continue growing Mexico City as you need Mexico City to reach 105,000 population for a later Task. You will need to supply additional goods to keep it growing now as we cannot build a Museum. You will need to supply Sugar, Cotton, Milk, Vegetables, Fruit, and Mescal.

Once Tasks 4-11 are all complete you will receive Tasks 12-14 - which are for 3 Express lines between Veracruz, Mexico City, Tampico, and Nuevo Laredo - so create a 'Passengers and Mail' train line using the Stirling locomotive for each of these 3 lines and you will soon complete all 3 of these Tasks.

Next, you will receive Tasks 15-17 - which are to Transport 100 loads of fish, produce 2 loads of Canned Goods a week, and connect 1,000,000 people to your rail network. There is a Fishery just east of Veracruz which you can build a station at, then build and set up a Warehouse nearby to hold Fish. Next, connect these together and put a train to supply Fish to the Warehouse.

Once Mexico City reaches 105,000 population there will be demand for Canned Goods and as a result, you can now build a Steel Refinery and a Preservers - which you want to build in San Luis Potosi (demolish existing industries if there are no free slots). Expand both these industries as much as you can, then supply the Coal from Fernandez Pit to the north and Iron from Cuartero Quarry to the east. Set up a train to run from your Warehouse storing the Fish to San Luis Potosi and before long you should complete Tasks 15 & 16.

To connect 1,000,000 people to your network, simply connect to more cities and expand them with the 5 goods mentioned earlier. This will complete Task 17. Once complete, our final 2 tasks will be revealed as which are to gain a company value of $55,000,000 and buy out Don Lorenzo's company.

Task 18 should be complete or close to complete so you can turn your attention to Task 19. For this, you want to take out the maximum bonds you can and buy the maximum amount of your opponent's company you can straight away. You should have a good income, so just keep buying his company until you own 100% and Task 19 will be complete.

If you still need to increase your company value for Task 18, you can buy some businesses and industries, and once you hit $55,000,000 company value Task 18 will be complete.

Scenario complete! And as the rating screen loads up you should get the following 2 achievements:

¡Viva México! in Railway Empire
Completed the Mexico scenario.
  • Unlocked by 62 tracked gamers (64% - TA Ratio = 2.66) 97

El Presidente in Railway Empire
Complete the Mexico scenario as president.
  • Unlocked by 35 tracked gamers (36% - TA Ratio = 3.54) 97

I personally completed it with the AI on Very Hard in July 1880 with a rating of 41.6

Free Mode

As there aren't any specific tasks to complete - and the task list is different every time you play a Free Mode game - there isn't much assistance I can give towards completing it. However, if you need to grow cities up to 55,000 population, then focus on the 5 goods mentioned in the scenario section and then add some of the higher goods and museums if you need a population boost. For connecting X amount of cities, businesses or stations simply connect the required amount of those and you will probably get a couple of other tasks such as build a museum/university at a specific city.

Load up a 100-year free mode game on the Mexico map using the normal rail network, 0 competitors, maximum starting money and use any start city.

Once you start, establish a decent network, connecting 4-8 cities and start growing them all so you are earning plenty of money. Once you hit $8,000,000+ you can build stations in each of the cities (25 in total) and connect them all to your network for the following achievement:

El Mariachi in Railway Empire
Connect all cities in a game in Mexico.
  • Unlocked by 64 tracked gamers (66% - TA Ratio = 2.62) 97

Now you just need to complete this game for your final 2 achievements and there are 2 ways of doing this. The first method is to just keep playing the game until your last task expires and you will be shown the rating page or the second and quicker method is to simply complete all of your tasks. Once you do, the rating page will show. It should be noted you only need to complete 1 Task for these achievements - although completing all them is far quicker than waiting for them to expire. Either way, once your game is 'complete' you will unlock the following 2 achievements:

Gran Fiesta in Railway Empire
Complete a free game in Mexico.
  • Unlocked by 51 tracked gamers (53% - TA Ratio = 2.93) 97

Centennium in Railway Empire
Centennium79 (30)
Complete a 100 year era fee game.
  • Unlocked by 63 tracked gamers (65% - TA Ratio = 2.64) 97

And that is 8/8 achievements for 200 Gamerscore and concludes this walkthrough!

Welcome to the walkthrough for the Great Lakes DLC for Railway Empire!

To obtain the 8 achievements included in this DLC pack you are looking at playing the scenario and then a sandbox mode game. Overall you are looking at 4-6 hours of game time to finish it.

Scenario

Load up the Dominion Day scenario and I would recommend using the normal rail network and trainiac pause mode. There are 22 tasks to complete and they are all compulsory. The hardest part of this scenario is the beginning as you need Wood for practically everything - so make sure your cities/warehouses are well supplied with Wood.

Once you start, use the demolish tool to remove most of the signals between Montreal and Quebec - then complete Task 1 by connecting Saguenay to Quebec. Once this is done, complete Task 2 by connecting Grand-Lac-Victoria to Quebec via a station at Archer Clearing just east of Grand-Lac-Victoria. Get a few trains supplying Wood from Archer Clearing to Quebec, and 1 train supplying Grand-Lac-Victoria.

Next connect Baker Chopping east of Montreal to Montreal and supply that with Wood, Set up a train to take Meat from Quebec to Saguenay to work delivering 30 Meat for Task 3. Once Task 3 is complete change the train that was delivering Meat to Saguenay to take it to the Warehouse near Saguenay instead to work on and Task 4.

While Task 4 is being worked on, it's a good time to build a Warehouse to 'link' with Quebec (both this Warehouse and the one near Saguenay want to store Meat, Logs, Wheat, Beer, Vegetables, and Furniture). Change all your trains to deliver to your new Warehouse (Wood from the rural businesses, Beer from Montreal and Furniture from Grand-Lac-Victoria) and take goods from the Warehouse to both Grand-Lac-Victoria and Saguenay's Warehouse so that your city stations are clear for passenger trains. Supply your new Warehouse with Wheat and Vegetables and make sure it is well supplied as your stock levels drop very quickly in the winter.

There is no Corn nearby, so just make sure both Saguenay and Grand-Lac-Victoria are both well supplied with Meat, Wheat, Beer, and Logs so that they can grow.

Once Task 4 is complete you will receive your next 3 tasks - which are to grow Saguenay to 28,000, grow Grand-Lac-Victoria to 32,000 and achieve a quarterly profit of $800,000. Hopefully, your 2 cities are already at the sizes needed - or close to them. If they do still need to grow, check the demand section of the city to see what you need to supply more of. Either way, once they both reach the required sizes Tasks 5 and 6 will be complete. For Task 7, you want to add a few Passenger trains to your network to earn you some extra cash to go with your Freight Revenue. You are unlikely to complete this Task in Jan-March or Oct-Dec as the snow stops all your trains - so use these months to add more trains, or spend on upgrading stations and maintenance buildings - and avoid spending money from Apr-Sept as much as possible.

Once you achieve a profit of over $800,000 in any quarter you will complete Task 7 and the hardest portion of this scenario. You'll be rewarded with 4 easy tasks to complete.

Tasks 8 and 9 are simply to join the cities of Moncton and Halifax to your network. Once this is done, build a station at Ward Forest Aisles (south of Moncton) to supply Halifax with Wood and a station at Stark Preserve (south of Halifax) to supply Moncton with Wheat - which will work on Task 10 (deliver 35 Wood to Halifax).

Now, you might notice that Halifax uses Wood to make Cloth. You need to transport 35 loads of Cloth for Task 11 and for a future task you want to be producing Winter Clothing. Sageunay has the required industry for that - so, create a couple of trains to transport the Cloth to Saguenay to work on Task 11. Build a station at Anderson Clearing northwest of Saguenay to supply Furs. While this is going on, set up some trains to supply Halifax and Moncton with goods needed to grow from your Quebec Warehouse.

With Tasks 8-11 complete you are given the simple Task of having a company value of $8,000,000 and given the rails and stations located between Ottawa and London which includes a couple of rural businesses. Start by removing some or all of the signals located on the tracks you have just gained, and connect Ottawa to Montreal. You can choose to expand these cities if you wish (personally I left them) using goods from Montreal/Quebec Warehouse and the Meat that can be produced in London.

Around now you should be able to unlock the 'Achilles' locomotive with your innovation points. Do that now, and once you create a train line with this locomotive you will earn the following achievement:

Dog sleigh in Railway Empire
Dog sleigh51 (20)
Use the Achilles locomotive in the "Dominion Day" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 55 tracked gamers (85% - TA Ratio = 2.55) 65

Once you achieve a company value of $8,000,000, you will complete Task 12 and be given Tasks 13-15. You should complete Task 15 for a quarterly Freight Revenue of $1,200,000 at the end of your next quarter. For Task 13, set up a train to transport Furs to Ottawa and for Task 14 set up a train to take Winter Clothing from Saguenay to Toronto (make sure there are no other trains taking Winter Clothing from Saguenay). Before long both Tasks 13 and 14 will be complete.

When you receive Tasks 16-19, you are allowed to expand into much more of the map. The first thing to do is expand west from Grand-Lac-Victoria to the cities of Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and White River. Purchase and demolish the Brewery in Sudbury and build a Meat Industry in its place. Then supply this from the Cattle Ranch to the southeast. Use Sudbury to supply Meat to White River, Sault Ste. Marie and Grand-Lac-Victoria. Supply the Brewery in White River with Wheat and use this to supply Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury with Beer. Next, supply these cities with Logs, Wheat and Vegetables/Milk when needed from the rural businesses nearby as you want to grow these cities to 55,000+.

Once you have those cities supplied and growing, expand west from White River to Thunder Bay and supply Thunder Bay with Wheat from the north, Coal from the west, Beer from White River, Meat from Sudbury and Logs from any rural business you can. Once supplied with these goods it will expand to the required 36,000 population for Task 16.

For Task 17, simply build some track between the Fur business near Saguenay and Grand-Lac-Victoria and set up a train to take Furs to Sault Ste. Marie. Now turn your attention to Task 18 and achieving a quarterly revenue of $1,200,000 from Passengers. Set up 'Passengers and Mail' trains between all your cities and use your innovation points to unlock the increased ticket prices for passengers innovations. As with the Freight revenue earlier you are only likely to obtain these between Apr-June or July-Sept, but once you do it will leave you with just Task 19.

Having 8 cities with 55,000+ population might sound difficult due to the snow in winter but it isn't really much harder than in the standard game. Your starting 2 cities of Montreal and Quebec should already be over this - and if you kept Saguenay well supplied that will be your 3rd. Moncton and Halifax should easily reach this if you supplied them from the Quebec Warehouse to give you 5 and once Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and White River reach 55,000 population each you will complete Task 19. (Thunder Bay is another city that could easily reach 55,000 and if you chose to grow Toronto, Ottawa, and London there are another 3 to use)

The final 3 tasks (20-22) are now revealed and you should be earning a massive amount of money. So, buy out either of your competitors now to complete Task 22. Change lots of your trains to use the 'Achilles' locomotive if you haven't already done so and you should have 8 express trains before long which will complete Task 21.

Before buying 10 Industries/Businesses for Task 20, you want to connect to a few more cities so that you have stations in at least 15 cities of this region. Doing this will net you the following achievement:

On track in Railway Empire
On track55 (20)
Connect half of the cities of the "Dominion Day" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 48 tracked gamers (74% - TA Ratio = 2.73) 65

With that achievement out of the way, you now want to open up the Bonds section inside the 'Company' menu and pay back your $10,000,000 bond once you can afford it. With your bond paid off, take a look at your revenue page and the 'Results of last quarter' part. Once this is over $5,000,000 and your bond is paid off you will unlock the following achievement (I could not get this achievement to pop without paying the bond back although others have, you may have already earned this and so you won't need to pay the bond back):

The Loonie in Railway Empire
The Loonie89 (30)
Archieve a quarterly result of $5 million.
  • Unlocked by 41 tracked gamers (63% - TA Ratio = 2.96) 65

Now, all that is left to do is buy 10 Industries or Businesses to complete Task 20 and it will be scenario complete!

Once you go to the rating screen you will unlock the following achievement:

Due South in Railway Empire
Due South85 (30)
Complete the "Dominion Day" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 45 tracked gamers (69% - TA Ratio = 2.82) 65

Hopefully, you also earned a president rating for the following achievement:

Robin Sparkles in Railway Empire
Reach the rank of President in the "Dominion Day" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 38 tracked gamers (58% - TA Ratio = 3.07) 65

I personally completed this in August 1872 with a rating of 34.6

Sandbox Mode

Load up a Sandbox Mode game in any era and use any start city. Using your unlimited money, connect all the cities to unlock the following achievement:

I made it eh in Railway Empire
Connect all cities in the Great Lakes region.
  • Unlocked by 41 tracked gamers (63% - TA Ratio = 2.96) 65

Then purchase 4 Fur Businesses for the following achievement:

Just in beaver in Railway Empire
Own 4 fur businesses in the Great Lakes region.
  • Unlocked by 49 tracked gamers (75% - TA Ratio = 2.71) 65

And now you want to build a Warehouse close enough to a city so that it 'links' and set it up to store the first 6 goods. Then simply build stations at the nearest rural businesses that supply those goods and transport them to your Warehouse. As soon as your Warehouse is holding 200 or more items you will unlock the following achievement:

Winter is coming in Railway Empire
Stack up 200 commodities in a warehouse in the Great Lakes region.
  • Unlocked by 59 tracked gamers (91% - TA Ratio = 2.47) 65

And that is 8/8 achievements for 200 Gamerscore and concludes this walkthrough!

Welcome to the walkthrough for the Crossing The Andes DLC for Railway Empire!

To obtain the 8 achievements included in this DLC pack you are looking at playing the 3 scenarios and then a 100-year free mode game. Overall you are looking at 10-15 hours of game time to finish it.

Outside Capital

As you would expect, the first of these 3 scenarios is the easiest and your best opportunity to earn a president rating in this region. This scenario has 11 Tasks - all of which are compulsory - and focus mainly on passenger transport. The hardest part of this scenario is completing the first task. I suggest using the normal rail network and trainiac pause mode for this scenario.

You start with Buenos Aires as your home town. Build a station there and one in nearby Rosario, then set up an express train to run between the two cities. Now you want to build and join up a station in Cordoba. Once again, set up an express train. This will make progress towards Task 2 and you now have 3/7 cities connected towards Task 1. The next 3 cities you want to connect are Bahia Blanca, Viedma, and Corrientes (use bonds to afford these). Next, set up a few express trains so that passengers can travel between all your cities.

Lookout for an auction for the 'Garrett' locomotive and purchase this when it comes up. Set up or change an existing train line to use this locomotive - coupled with the Kitson-Meyer locomotive that you started with - and you will now unlock the following:

Loco Cabana in Railway Empire
Make use of the locomotive engines "Garratt" and "Kitson-Meyer" in any South American scenario.
  • Unlocked by 54 tracked gamers (92% - TA Ratio = 2.52) 59

Now use your innovation points to unlock the 'Berkshire' locomotive and change all your express train lines to use this locomotive as it does a good enough job until the final part of this scenario.

Your final city - once you can afford it - is Tucuman, and you may notice the city of Salta nearby. The reason you didn't use Salta is that the cost of laying tracks from Tucuman to Salta is in excess of $500,000 due to the terrain. This will complete Task 1 - and if Task 2 isn't complete it will be done soon.

Tasks 3 and 4 (company value of $2,000,000 and quarterly revenue of $250,000 from passengers) should come in time and while you are waiting for them you can start connecting rural businesses ready for growing cities later. There are 6 basic goods needed to grow cities in this region to the size we require (Fish, Corn, Chicha, Meat, Logs & Sugar).

Once Tasks 3 and 4 are complete you will be given Tasks 5-8. Task 8 is simply double the requirement of Task 4 and will come in time without much thought, Task 7 (have $1,000,000 cash) also will not be a problem, so you can look at Task 6 which is to connect to another 3 cities. Connect from Rosario to Santiago when you can afford it to complete Task 5, and then south from Santiago to Concepcion, then finally north from Santiago to Coquimbo to complete Task 6.

Save up your cash until you have $1,000,000 to complete Task 7 and then start supplying the cities of Cordoba, Rosario, Buenos Aires, Bahia Blanca and Viedma with the goods mentioned earlier while you wait for Task 8 to complete (you can add more passenger trains to your lines to help Task 8 too).

Viedma and Bahia Blanca work well as a pair and then Rosario, Cordoba, and Buenos Aires as a trio.

With Task 8 complete you are given another 4 tasks to finish the scenario and you want to start by connecting north from Coquimbo to the cities of Iquique, Ica and then Lima (setup express trains on each of these lines). Now you want to connect north from Tucuman to the cities of Salta, Potosi and then Santa Cruz to complete Task 9. Then join Santa Cruz west to La Paz and then west from La Paz to join your line to Ica (again you want to set up express trains on these lines).

Hopefully, by now, each of the 5 cities you were growing is at population 60,000+, but if not then work on that now by adding extra supply to the cities that need it. Once each of these cities has 60,000+ population build an attraction in each of them to complete Task 10.

Task 12 should be your focus now and buying out Don Lorenzo first as his company value goes up faster. Once you own 100% of his company, leave him operating and earning you money until you also own 100% of Roger Smythe. With you owning 100% shares in both your competitors you will complete Task 12 and now you want to merge with both of them and liquidate everything.

Having 20 express trains operating at once for Task 11 is not as hard as it seems. Start by removing ALL of your freight trains from your network as you don't care about supplying cities anymore and you don't want slow freight trains clogging up your lines. Use your innovation points to unlock the 'EMD E-unit Diesel' locomotive and then replace all of your current locomotives with this one. Upgrade all of your stations to the maximum size to reduce loading/unloading time and connect north from Corrientes to the city of Horqueta and west from Buenos Aires to Montevideo.

With passenger trains on all of your routes, you should have around 25 train lines operating and you need 20 of these to be classed 'Express' at the same time. If you can't reach 20 then add more passenger trains to your network and use any remaining innovation points to unlock faster maintenance times, reduced maintenance requirements and higher train speeds. If you are still struggling then try remaking some of your routes with more direct tracks and fewer gradients on them.

Once 20 of your trains are classed as 'Express' at once you will complete Task 11 and the scenario!

With the rating screen loaded up, you will unlock the following achievement:

Pompa Colada in Railway Empire
Complete the "Outside capital" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 32 tracked gamers (54% - TA Ratio = 3.27) 59

And hopefully you earned a president rating for the following achievement:

El Dorado in Railway Empire
El Dorado109 (30)
Complete one out of the three South American scenarios as president.
  • Unlocked by 26 tracked gamers (44% - TA Ratio = 3.63) 59

I personally completed this scenario in February 1907 with a rating of 39.2.

Coffee Baron

The second scenario of this DLC focuses on freight transport in the opposite of the first scenario, and there are 12 tasks to complete - all of which are compulsory. Your starting city is Sao Paulo and you only have 1 Task to deal with straight the way which is to connect 8 rural businesses to your network. I suggest using the normal rail network and trainiac pause mode for this scenario.

Begin by building your station in Sao Paulo and build another in Curitiba. Connect these up, then connect the nearby Fishery and add some trains to supply both the cities. Next, connect the Coffee plantation west of Curitiba and get a train taking Coffee to Curitiba as this is how you obtain resource points in this scenario. Use your innovation points to unlock the 'Berkshire' locomotive when you can as this train will do well for the whole of this scenario. Use any spare innovation points going forward to unlock reduced maintenance times, increased reliability and increased speeds.

With each additional station, add trains to supply your cities with any goods they need from your newly connected businesses.

Now you can also connect to the Coffee plantation east of Sao Paulo for a 3rd rural business - although you won't be using it just yet. Use a Medium size train station to the south of Curitiba to connect the Corn and Natural Rubber businesses to your network and connect the Cattle Ranch North of Sao Paulo.

Next, you want to connect to Rio De Janeiro and the Corn and Oil businesses north of it to complete Task 1. Supply your 3 cities with Fish, Corn, Meat & Chicha to start them growing.

Task 2 will now be available which is to deliver 24 loads of Coffee to Porto Alegre (south of Curitiba) so your next job is to connect to Porto Alegre from your medium-sized station south of Curitiba and this will cost around $500,000. Once this is done, begin supplying Porto Alegre with Coffee from the plantation near Curitiba. As soon as 24 loads are delivered Task 2 will be complete. Now you can also connect to the Logging North of Curitiba and also the Fishery, Logging and Sugar plantation near to Porto Alegre.

Now you are given Tasks 3 & 4 - which are to transport 1,000 freight cars and earn $1,000,000 in quarterly revenue from freight. As long as you are supplying all your cities with the 5 basic goods needed (Fish, Corn, Meat, Chicha & Logs) Task 3 will be a breeze, and for Task 4 just keep adding trains to supply your cities and connect to more businesses as needed (Sugar at 25,000 Population, Milk at 35,000, Coffee at 40,000 & Cocoa at 45,000) and before too long Task 4 will also be complete.

Now Tasks 5-7 are given to you and you will probably have already complete Task 6 (Have $5,000 average balance with 15 active rail lines), leaving you with 2 Tasks for growing cities - Task 5 for growing Curitiba to 80,000 and Task 7 for having 8 cities with a 60,000+ population.

You already have 4 cities growing well and the next 4 to grow are your own choice - although I would recommend using Uberaba, Contagem, Monte Claros and Cuiaba (Cuiaba seems a little out of the way but will come in useful later) For the time being, expand your current cities and 3 more to 60,000+ leaving 1 city undersupplied until mid 1907 (Monte Claros is probably your best one to leave). Whilst your 7 cities are growing, use any spare cash to buy up businesses, win any auctions and purchase any businesses offered to you as this will greatly help you later. Once you have 7 cities at 60,000+ population, Curitiba at 80,000+, and you reach mid-1907 it is time to start growing your last city. Keep growing one of your cities to 100,000+ population as you need demand for Toys later.

Once you have a city with a population of 100,000 you will have demand for Toys and Steel. Build a Steel Industry in Cuiaba and supply the Iron from the west (close to Lima) and the coal from the east (north of Monte Claros) so you can start producing Steel. Next, build a Toy Industry in Uberaba and supply this with Steel from Cuiaba and Wood from the nearby Logging. Hopefully, either Sao Paulo or Rio De Janeiro has a Chocolate Industry, but if not then build one at either city or purchase an existing industry and replace it. Once there is a Chocolate Industry make sure it is supplied with Sugar and Cocoa.

Once your last city reaches 60,000 population you will complete Task 7.

Now you receive Task 8 which is to have a company value of $25,000,000 and you will almost certainly complete it instantly. If you don't, the easiest way to achieve this is to buy up businesses and industries. Once you reach a company value of $25,000,000 you will complete Task 8.

You now have access to the whole of the map and are given Tasks 9-12 which are to buy out each of your competitors and transport 200 loads of chocolate and 100 loads of toys. You have Uberaba making Toys and either Rio De Janeiro or Sao Paulo making chocolate, so as long as they are getting transported away from your cities then you are working on Tasks 10 & 11 (if you need to speed this up you can build a Warehouse nearby to 'store' either Chocolate or Toys and transport them there as this will count).

This just leaves you with the Task of buying out your competitors. You want to buy out Roger Smythe first as he costs less and the Task has an earlier expiry date. Use any spare cash to buy shares in Roger Smythe, and to try and win any auctions for businesses and industries as this will increase your company value rather than theirs. This makes you harder to buy out while stopping them from becoming harder to buy out.

Remember to keep your eye out for employees. You can hire Analysts and use these to decrease the share price of the competitor you are trying to buy out. Whilst buying out your competitors make sure your Toy and Chocolate industries are well supplied and that the goods are being transported to work on Tasks 10 & 11.

Once you own 100% in Roger Smythe you will complete Task 9 but DO NOT liquidate him. Leave him operating and he will earn you money as you will periodically gain any excess cash he has. Now with your income increased - and only Beatrix Von Pomp to buy out - it is time to start buying shares in her in the same way you did to Roger Smythe. Once you have 100% ownership of Beatrix Von Pomp you will complete Task 12.

This could be the scenario complete for you although you may still need to transport Toys and Chocolate. The quickest method to do this now is simply to build Warehouses and transport the goods to them. Once you have transported 100 loads of Toys and 200 Loads of Chocolate you will complete Tasks 10 & 11 and it will be Scenario Complete!

Once your rating screen loads up you will unlock the following achievement:

Donpirinha in Railway Empire
Donpirinha68 (20)
Complete the "Coffee baron" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 30 tracked gamers (51% - TA Ratio = 3.38) 59

Personally, I completed this in August 1914 with a rating of 28.5 but on another attempt completed it in June 1916 with a rating of 30.4 (completing the first 6 Tasks much earlier).

Summiteer

This is probably the hardest scenario in the game (so far) and revolves around growing cities and expanding your rail network massively. I would recommend using the normal rail mode and the trainiac pause mode. There are 11 tasks to complete - all of which are compulsory - and there are 2 'hard' parts of this scenario. The first is the very beginning due to very limited money and tricky terrain to conquer, and the second 'hard' part is at the end and buying out your competitor. Be warned; this can be a very long scenario and if you don't expand quickly enough in the final part then you can fail quite easily.

Until quite late in the game, you want to avoid building tunnels and bridges as much as possible (you will end up with horrible gradients but that is ok). Place your first station in Lima and another station in Ica. Set up 2 express trains to run between the 2 cities. Now build a station at the nearby Corn Farm and connect it to Lima. Set up 2 trains to take Corn to Ica and a single train to take Corn to Lima.

Buy the Niter Mine south of Ica (using bonds if needed) and build a station there, along with a station at the Fishery and connect these to Ica. Use 2 trains to take Niter to Ica (setup them up to wait for 8 wagons so as to maximize profit) and a train each to take Fish to Ica and Lima. Hopefully, at the end of March, you will complete Task 1 for a quarterly profit of $80,000 (if not I would recommend starting again at this point).

With Task 1 complete you will receive Task 2 (transport 24 loads of Niter to Ica), Task 3 (population of 50,000 in Iquique), and Task 4 (produce 30 loads of clothing). Task 2 is currently being worked on - turn your attention to Iquique, build a station there and a station at the Fishery to the south (you do not need to connect Iquique to the rest of your network yet). Use this to get Fish to Iquique, then when you have the money build and connect the Corn Farm south of the Fishery and set up a supply of Corn too.

Use your innovation points to unlock the 'Berkshire' locomotive when you can as it is a good all-rounder and doesn't cost a great deal.

Now is the time to connect Iquique to the Coffee Farm south of your Niter Mine. Next, connect from the Coffee Farm to the nearby Fishery. Create trains to swap Chicha and Meat between Lima/Iquique and Ica/Iquique. At this point, Iquique should start growing. Build a station at the Sugar Plantation southeast of Iquique and connect this. Once Iquique reaches 25,000 population, supply it with Sugar, and then once it reaches 35,000 population connect and supply it with Milk from the south of the Corn Farm.

Once Iquique reaches 40,000 population, supply it with Coffee from the north and build a Tailors there. Build a station at the Llama Wool Farm west of your Niter Mine and supply this to Iquique. This will be enough supply to reach 50,000 population and you will now be producing clothing.

Now it is time to expand south from the Dairy you connected earlier - building stations at the Niter Mine, Fishery, Corn Farm - finally arriving at Coquimbo and then supplying Coquimbo with Fish and Corn. Continue expanding south and build stations at the Llama Wool Farm, Logging, Santiago, Niter Mine, Fishery, and the Cattle Ranch. Now supply Santiago with Cattle, Corn, Fish, and Wood. Create a rail line to transport freight between Coquimbo and Santiago. Next, supply Coquimbo with Wood and then expand south once more building stations at the Corn Farm, Concepcion, Sugar Plantation, Coffee Farm, and the Logging. Supply Concepcion with Corn, Fish, Wood and also a freight line from Santiago. This will get 4 of your cities growing and you will complete Tasks 3 and 4 somewhere around here.

Tasks 5 and 6 should now appear and Task 5 is the one you need to work on quickly as there isn't a great deal of time to complete it, Iquique will be above 50,000 and the cities of Concepcion, Coquimbo, and Santiago will be growing enough to reach 50,000. Lima and Ica need more supply to reach 50,000 and this can be done by connecting to Cusco from your Niter Mine. Supply Cusco from the Cattle Ranch to the east and have Cusco exchanging freight with Lima and Ica. Now is a good time to remake your line from Lima to the Corn Farm you connected to at the start to make the line much straighter (you can use tunnels and bridges now as long as its not a ridiculous cost and replace the station there with a medium/large station so that both Corn and Milk are available from it). You can also build a Large station at the Logging business east of Lima so that the station can get the Iron from outside of your build area. Create a line from the Corn/Milk station to Cusco and build a station at the Coal Mine which needs to connect so that it can supply Cusco. You'll also need to make sure that Wood can be supplied to Cusco.

With those changes made and stations built, supply Cusco with Corn, Fish, and Wood, then supply Lima and Ica with Milk and Wood. Finally, once Cusco reaches 35,000 supply it with Milk. When it hits 40,000 population, build a Steel Industry and supply it with Iron and Coal so that you can produce Steel ready for Task 6. This should be enough for you to have 7 cities reach 50,000 but keep a close eye on them to make sure they are supplied enough - add trains accordingly and expand your stations to more quickly unload of your trains.

Now, build and connect to a station in La Paz and then repeat for Santa Cruz and Asuncion. With this done, start transporting Steel to Asuncion. Now build a station in Horqueta and have a train exchanging freight between Horqueta and Asuncion, then build stations at nearby businesses to supply Asuncion with Cattle, Corn, Fish, and Wood. Supply Horqueta with Corn, Fish, and Wood too. As these cities expand, you want to supply them both with Milk at 35,000 - and at 40,000, build a Refinery in Horqueta and a Chocolate Factory in Asuncion. Supply each of them with the required materials.

Once you have transported 20 Steel to Asuncion you can build a station at the Sugar Plantation and supply both of these cities with Sugar. You can now build stations in Buenos Aires, Rosario and Cordoba. Tasks 7 and 8 should also be available for transporting 20 Cars to Buenos Aires and having a company value of $55,000,000. Have express trains running between Buenos Aires, Rosario, and Cordoba and then keep expanding Horqueta and Asuncion (supply them both with Cocoa from 45,000 and build a museum in Horqueta at 60,000 and the supply Niter at 70,000). Once Asuncion reaches 90,000, you can build a Car Industry and start sending Cars to Buenos Aires. For Horqueta at 90,000, build a Tailors.

Around this point, you will complete Task 8, receive Tasks 9-11, and Don Lorenzo will buy out Beatrix Von Pomp and start buying you out. At this point, you have full access to the map and you need to continue expanding quickly and supply cities well to avoid being bought out yourself. Before long Task 7 will also be complete for transporting 20 loads of cars to Buenos Aires.

Task 10 is the one to focus on most - for now - for having 4 cities at 125,000 population and the best way to do this is with 'pairs' of cities; one that produces Chicha and one that produces Meat and ideally the 2 cities want to have other, different Industries to each other so they can exchange them. Horqueta and Asuncion are good for this as all the goods needed are nearby; Santiago has everything nearby on its own and can exchange Meat for Chicha with Concepcion and Coquimbo; Iquique can exchange with Coquimbo and you also have a 3 city group of Cusco, Lima, and Ica. Personally, I ended up with Lima, Ica, Iquique, Santiago, Asuncion and Horqueta all over 125,000 population - but the choice is yours.

Once you have 4 cities at the required population, you will complete Task 10. For Tasks 9 and 11 - to buy 15% and then 100% of Don Lorenzo - you want to keep expanding your cities and connecting to new cities to expand. Now is also a good time to create new express routes between all your cities using the EMD E-Unit Diesel locomotive as this will earn you lots of income. You can also buy Niter Mines, expand these to maximum size and transport the Niter to cities that will export it as there is no limit to how much the cities will take (Concepcion and Ica export Niter).

For reference to the kind of expansion you need to do in this phase of the scenario, at scenario complete I had stations in 21 cities and they all had a minimum 30,000 population with 7 of them being 125,000+, I owned 125 businesses/industries, had a quarterly revenue of over $20,000,000 and a company value of $400,000,000.

Whilst you are earning money you want to try and win any auctions that are going so that your competitor's value doesn't rise - and buy out businesses and industries that your competitor is using (all in Brazil) as he will then be earning you money. Use analysts when they are available to reduce his share price and buy a couple of percent of shares each time you can. Once you have bought 15% you will complete Task 9.

Keep expanding to new cities and businesses and grow them as well as buying business and industries as you go - all to increase your income and save up your money so that you always have over $15,000,000 - as this will allow you to buy a significant chunk of shares when an analyst comes along. Just continue this until you can buy him completely out.

Once you own 100% shares in Don Lorenzo, it will be scenario complete for the hardest scenario so far! You will also unlock the following once the rating screen loads up:

Roger Libre in Railway Empire
Complete the "Summiteer" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 27 tracked gamers (46% - TA Ratio = 3.56) 59

I personally complete this in November 1917 with a rating of 30.9.

With all the expanding - and the fact you were supplying at least 2 Tailors in this game - you will have unlocked this achievement at some point:

Llamas in Pyjamas in Railway Empire
Transport 600 loads of llama wool in any game in South America.
  • Unlocked by 43 tracked gamers (73% - TA Ratio = 2.82) 59

Now continue playing and just expand to every city on the map for the next achievement:

Cocktail Party in Railway Empire
Connect all cities to each other in the region of South America.
  • Unlocked by 35 tracked gamers (59% - TA Ratio = 3.13) 59

Free Mode

For the final achievement of this DLC you just need to complete a 100 year Free Mode game. As there aren't any specific tasks to complete - and the task list is different every time you play a Free Mode game - there isn't much assistance I can give towards completing it. However, if you need to grow cities up to 60,000 population then focus on the 6 basic goods (Fish, Corn, Chicha, Meat, Logs & Sugar) and then add some of the higher goods and a museum if you need a higher population. For connecting X amount of cities, businesses or stations simply connect the required amount of those and you will probably get a couple of other tasks such as build a museum/university at a specific city.

Start a 100-year free mode game on the South America map using the normal rail network, 0 competitors, maximum starting money and use any start city.

This quickest way to do this is to complete all of your Tasks. However, the achievement will still unlock as long as you complete at least 1 Task even if you fail all others - although you will need to wait until the final Task expires which can be a long wait. Personally, I completed as many Tasks as I could but again the choice on this one is yours.

If you didn't get it earlier you can grow your network and expand to every city on the map for the following:

Cocktail Party in Railway Empire
Connect all cities to each other in the region of South America.
  • Unlocked by 35 tracked gamers (59% - TA Ratio = 3.13) 59

And when you complete your final Task or it expires you will get yourself:

Livin' La Vida Loco in Railway Empire
Complete a 100 year era free game in South America.
  • Unlocked by 25 tracked gamers (42% - TA Ratio = 3.70) 59

And that is 8/8 achievements for 180 Gamerscore and concludes this section!

Welcome to the walkthrough for the Great Britain & Ireland DLC for Railway Empire!

To obtain the 8 achievements included in this DLC pack you are looking at playing the scenario, a 100-year free mode game, and a quick Sandbox Mode mop up for the final achievement. Overall you are looking at 6-10 hours of game time to finish it.

Scenario

Load up the Transport Revolution scenario and use normal rails and the trainiac pause mode. This scenario is the easiest so far of the DLC's to complete and earn a president rating - however, it isn't the shortest. There are 15 tasks to complete - 2 are optional - and a major part of this scenario is city growth.

Your starting city is Liverpool and your first task is to connect Manchester and Liverpool. Build a medium station in each and connect both the stations with 2 lines to complete Task 1. Setup 2 rail lines for 'Passengers & Mail'; one from Liverpool - Manchester and one for Manchester - Liverpool so they are opposite each other.

Task 2 is to have 8 active train lines with an average balance of over £4,500 and you will have 2 already. Build stations at the Apple Orchard and Fishery north of your rail lines and connect these to your unused line between Liverpool and Manchester. Now build a station at the Pig Farm (Backfatters) to the south, then connect this to your unused line. Set up 2 trains to take Pigs to Liverpool, a train each taking fish to your 2 cities, a train taking Apples to Liverpool and 2 taking Apples to Manchester. You also want 2 trains transporting Freight between the 2 cities and make sure they use the opposite line to your Express line (Use bonds to set up all these lines if needed). Once all of these lines have made a complete trip you will complete Task 2.

You are now given Tasks 3 & 6 - although it looks like 3 & 4. Task 3 will complete on its own in time, so while you are waiting, connect the cites of Wrexham and Leeds to your network (using your Freight line at Manchester for Leeds) and supply them both with 2 trains for Pigs, 1 for Fish and 1 for Apples (you can supply the apples to Wrexham from the much closer Orchard). Next, set up a Freight train each way for Wrexham - Manchester and Leeds - Manchester and supply Manchester with at least 2 more trains of Apples.

Once your cities reach 30,000 supply them with Beef, at 40,000 supply them with Logs, at 45,000 supply them with Vegetables, and at 50,000 supply them with Milk (all are near Liverpool/Manchester). Once your first 2 cities reach 35,000 you will complete Task 3. Then you will be given Task 4 to produce 60 loads of Tweed, and allowed to expand to the cities of Birmingham and Nottingham.

As Liverpool reaches 40,000 population build a Weaving Factory. Expand it to level 2 and supply it with Sheep's Wool from the Estate just north of Birmingham as this will work on Task 4. Whilst that is going on, connect to the cities of Nottingham and Birmingham and supply them each with 1 train of Apples, 1 of Fish and 2 of Pigs. Once Wrexham reaches 40,000 build a Brewery there and use Wrexham as your city to supply Birmingham and Nottingham with Cider (build additional shorter rail lines if you haven't already) Make sure Wrexham is well supplied with Apples.

Remember to build Museums at any city that reaches 60,000 population.

Once you have produced 60 loads of Tweed you will complete Task 4 and receive the very easy Task 5 - which is to transport 800 Freight cars - and your network will be doing that for you already without any input as you are growing your cities. While you wait for that, connect to the cities of Oxford, Northampton, and Hull (Hull is another supplier of Cider so you aren't so reliant on Manchester and Wrexham). Supply Hull with 2 trains of Apples, a train of Fish and a train transporting Freight from Leeds. Supply Oxford and Northampton with 2 trains each of Pigs and a train of Barley which you can now get just west of Nottingham, then once Task 5 completes supply them with Apples from around London.

Now connect to London to complete Task 6 and supply London with plenty of Apples, Fish from the east and transport Freight between London - Oxford and London - Northampton. This will start these cities growing. You will now also have Task 7 which is to grow London to 100,000 Population. To do that just make sure it is well supplied with all goods up to Milk, and supply it with any of the further goods that any of your cities are producing as and when London reaches the required population.

Whilst London is growing, it is now a good time to expand to Peterborough, Cambridge, and Norwich. Cambridge and Norwich produce Cider which will help with supplying all your cities with Cider, so once again supply them with the needed goods to reach 30,000 and then supply each extra of the required goods to grow them to 60,000 and finally build museums.

Once London reaches 100,000 population you will complete Task 7, receive and instantly complete Task 8 which is to connect to 12 cities and then receive Task 9 to buy out Don McLeod's company - and Optional Task 1 to deliver 50 loads of Steel to Newcastle.

Build a station in Middlesbrough. Buy the industry that is there, demolish it and build a Steel industry. Supply Middlesbrough with Iron from slightly north and Coal from the south. Build and connect to Newcastle and start transporting Steel to Newcastle to work on your Optional Task. Now supply Newcastle and Middlesbrough as you have done with each other city so far.

Start buying out Don McLeod as quickly as you can but don't buy 100% until you have completed your Optional Task. Once you have completed your Optional Task, buy out 100% of Don McLeod but leave him operating and don't merge with him - this will give you extra income regularly.

After completing Task 9 you are given all Tasks 10-13 and Optional Task 2.

Connect to Edinburgh and supply it with the needed goods to reach 60,000 population as this will complete Task 11 for transporting 120 of any commodity to Edinburgh. Now build a station in Glasgow and connect it to Liverpool (the line doesn't need to be neat just as long as it works) and set up a train to take 'Passengers & Mail' from Liverpool to Glasgow to work on Task 10.

Continue growing all of your cities and start buying out the competitor that isn't in Ireland. Once you own 100%, merge with this competitor and Don McLeod and 'keep everything'. Now connect your 2 newly acquired networks to your original network so that you have one giant network and build Museums at any of the new cities you now have. By this point, you should have completed Task 12 for having 15 cities at 60,000+ population and should be close to completing Task 13 for having 8 cities at 120,000+ population. Just make sure each of your cities is well supplied and before long both of these Tasks will be complete.

With that, the scenario will be complete and you will earn yourself the following achievement:

In a snap in Railway Empire
In a snap67 (20)
Complete the "Transport revolution" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 41 tracked gamers (38% - TA Ratio = 3.36) 108

Hopefully, you also earned a President Rating. However, if you didn't you can continue playing and buy out the remaining competitor to complete Optional Task 2 and boost your rating significantly. Either way, you will also earn:

Cheeky geezer in Railway Empire
Complete the "Transport revolution" scenario as president.
  • Unlocked by 29 tracked gamers (27% - TA Ratio = 4.00) 108

I personally completed this scenario in September 1841, completing the first 3 Tasks with maximum score and completing only the first Optional Task with a rating of 35.8. After playing on for just 4 months and buying out the remaining competitor to complete the second Optional Task I gained a rating of 44.5.

Free Mode

As there aren't any specific tasks to complete - and the task list is different every time you play a Free Mode game - there isn't much assistance I can give towards completing it. However, if you need to grow cities up to 55,000 population then focus on the 5 goods mentioned in the scenario section and then add some of the higher goods if you need a higher population. For connecting X amount of cities, businesses or stations simply connect the required amount of those and you will probably get a couple of other tasks such as build a museum/university at a specific city.

Start a 100-year free mode game on the British Isles Map. Start it with the maximum money you can and 0 competitors. Use the normal rail network and I would recommend having London as your start city.

Once your game has loaded, build your rail network around the south of England and start growing cities because you want plenty of income and you can try and fulfill your Tasks if you wish. Once you have $15,000,000+ money simply build stations in every city (45 in total) and connect them all to your network for the following 2 achievements:

Gallivanting in Railway Empire
Connect half of all cities in the Great Britain and Ireland region.
  • Unlocked by 57 tracked gamers (53% - TA Ratio = 2.85) 108

Pile it on in Railway Empire
Pile it on100 (30)
Connect all cities in the Great Britain and Ireland region.
  • Unlocked by 42 tracked gamers (39% - TA Ratio = 3.32) 108

Now you need to wait until 1880 to unlock the toy industry required to produce Leather Balls. You also need a city with 100,500+ population so there is a demand for the goods. This is why you need to grow your cities until the industry is unlocked. Whilst you are waiting, you need to set up a Chemical Factory to produce Chemicals preferably at the city in which you are going to be producing the Leather Balls. Once you have it unlocked - and have a city with the required population count - simply build a Toy Industry, expand it to level 5, and then build a warehouse nearby to hold 99 Leather Balls. Supply Chemicals and Backfatters to your industry and transport the goods to the warehouse and very soon you will unlock:

Got balls in Railway Empire
Got balls109 (30)
Produce 100 leather balls in the region of Great Britain and Ireland.
  • Unlocked by 35 tracked gamers (32% - TA Ratio = 3.64) 108

With that done, all that is left in this game is to unlock all 10 locomotives of the region with your innovation points or by winning auctions. The first is your starter locomotive which leaves 9 to unlock and the final one is the very last locomotive on the research tree.

The required locomotives are:

  • Rocket
  • Derwent
  • Firefly
  • Jenny Lind
  • Iron Duke
  • Waverley
  • Rail Crusher
  • Taff Vale Tank
  • A3 Flying Scotsman
  • A4 Mallard

This will unlock the following achievement:

Have a butchers in Railway Empire
Unlock all locomotive engines of the Great Britain and Ireland region.
  • Unlocked by 32 tracked gamers (30% - TA Ratio = 3.80) 108

Sandbox Mode

Now for your final achievement, simply load up a Sandbox Mode game on the British Isles Map with the realistic rail network and build a station with signaling control to earn the following:

Platform Nine and Three-Quarters in Railway Empire
Construct a railroad station with signaling control in the region of Great Britain and Ireland.
  • Unlocked by 75 tracked gamers (69% - TA Ratio = 2.48) 108

And that is 8/8 achievements for 200 Gamerscore and concludes this section!

Welcome to the walkthrough for the Germany DLC for Railway Empire!

To obtain the 8 achievements included in this DLC pack you are looking at playing the scenario and then a 100-year free mode game. Overall you are looking at 6-10 hours of game time to finish it.

Scenario

Load up the Patchwork scenario and use normal rails, trainiac pause mode and I would recommend putting the AI on hard or very hard to help with earning a President Rating. This Scenario has 13 Tasks - all of which are compulsory and mainly revolve around transporting and supplying Freight.

You start with 2 Tasks which are relatively simple and your starting city is Cassel - so build a station here and another 2 in Frankfurt and Worms to the south. Set up 4 Express trains (2 on each stretch of your track) and then build stations at the Vegetable Business near Cassel and the Wheat Farm near Worms - which will complete Task 1. Supply Wheat and Vegetables to all 3 cities and then have 2 Freight trains exchanging goods between Cassel-Frankfurt and Cassel-Worms. That is pretty much all the expanding you can do for now, so just wait until Task 2 completes and you will be given Task 3 (have ℳ600,000 in Cash). Once again you can only wait until it is complete.

With Task 3 complete, open up your territories option on the menu wheel (beneath building construction) and purchase the Thuringia region to unlock:

Henschel and Gretel in Railway Empire
Unlock the first area in the Germany region.
  • Unlocked by 65 tracked gamers (97% - TA Ratio = 2.37) 67

This will give you access to Pigs, Salt, and a new city - so build stations at each of these. Supply Pigs to Cassel and Weimar, supply Wheat and Vegetables to Weimar and set up a Freight train for Weimar-Frankfurt. This should allow Cassel, Frankfurt, and Weimar to start growing.

You now have Tasks 4-9 and want to focus on them in order. For Task 4, I would recommend buying some rural businesses that you will benefit from most - such as the Pigs and Salt you have just gained access to. Task 5 may take a while so just keep growing your cities and once they each hit 40,000 population build a Food Industry in Cassel, a Tailors in Weimar and a Brewery in Frankfurt. Supply Salt to Cassel and Hops from the West of Worms to Frankfurt.

The next territory you want to unlock is Rhineland (West) for ℳ1,200,000 as this will give you access to Logs, Sheep's Wool and 2 new Cities. Supply Logs to all of your cities and Sheep's Wool to Cassell, Weimar, and Frankfurt.

Connect to Coblenz and Cologne and supply these cities with Wheat, Vegetables, Logs and Pigs - then set up some Freight trains to exchange the Sausages they are producing with Worms and Frankfurt for Pastries. Connect and supply Sheep's Wool, Fruit and Milk to all your cities once they demand it and soon you will complete Task 5 for ℳ200,000 quarterly Freight revenue.

Keep an eye on your cities and make sure they are well supplied enough from the rural businesses to keep producing goods. You'll also need to make sure each city is exchanging goods with each other to keep growing (at this point you should be supplying all your cities with everything on the demand list up to Milk. Wheat Beer, Sauerkraut and Fruit Brandy and the hardest to keep on top of) and remember to build Museums in all of your cities when they hit 60,000 population.

Once you have 240,000 population in the Hesse area (starting area) you will complete Task 6, and once your Tailor's in Weimar has produced 60 loads of clothing you will complete Task 7. By now, you should be able to unlock the Hulda locomotive - if you haven't already - and you want to use this locomotive to create an Express train between any 2 of your cities. Doing so will unlock:

The Valiant Little Conductor in Railway Empire
Create an express line with a "Hulda" in a Germany game.
  • Unlocked by 43 tracked gamers (64% - TA Ratio = 2.91) 67

Connect to the city of Saarbrucken and start supplying it with the first 5 goods to grow. Build a Candy Factory in Worms, Tailors in Coblenz when it hits 40,000 population, a Porcelain Manufacturers in Cologne when that hits 40,000 and supply these with the materials they require. You also want a Dairy Farm in Saarbrucken when that reaches 40,000. When your first few cities hit 90,000 population, you want certain industries in the cities, so make sure you build them yourself (Distillery in Cassel, Smokehouse in Weimar, Distillery in Frankfurt, Toolmakers in Worms).

Your next 2 regions to unlock are Westphalia and Hanover. Connect to all your new cities and start supplying them with basic goods. Build a Distillery in Cologne and a Furniture Industry in Coblenz once they reach 90,000 population. The same as before - as your new cities grow, you need to supply them with more and more goods - but you now have access to or are producing nearly all of them.

Your next Industries to build at 40,000 are Brewery in Essen, Dairy Farm in Guterlsoh, Dairy Farm in Brunswick, Brewery in Hanover and a Tailors in Bremen. Make sure all of your cities are growing and well supplied (it is tough as this is 12 cities to watch now so I would recommend keeping your game speed on standard).

When you can afford it, buy the territories of Brandenburg and Saxony to complete Task 8. Task 9 should also be completed soon if it isn't already. With these out of the way you are given your final 4 Tasks - with Task 12 being the hardest (Connect 10 cities of 120,000+ population). Now you can see why you have grown so many cities and need a good income.

Build a station in Berlin and as straight a line as you can to Cologne (do not use any of your existing tracks as you don't want hold-ups on this line). Create a couple of Express trains from Berlin-Cologne using the Hulda locomotive and add some staff to increase speed. Once one of these trains has done a full circuit you should complete Task 10 (if you haven't completed it then use innovation points to increase speed or reliability).

Now is the time for buying out the competitor that has a station in Berlin. It should be easy as you are earning a massive amount and your company's value far exceeds theirs. Once you own 100% in the company do a Merger but KEEP EVERYTHING. This will keep the cities supplied with all the AI was supplying and earn you more money. Build Museums in any cities that you can that the AI had stations in and put a little connection line to join your newly acquired lines to your original network.

Go into your territories menu again and purchase the Bavaria region next so that you can start buying out your other competitor and repeat the process you did with the first one. This will complete you Task 13 and unlock you:

The Customs and the Seven Young Rail Spikes in Railway Empire
Unlock 7x areas in the "Patchwork" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 32 tracked gamers (48% - TA Ratio = 3.37) 67

With your competitors out of the way you are on the home stretch now and the next task you want to complete is the 10 cities at 120,000 population Task. You should have at least 5/10 already - if not more - so just keep working on growing your cities to this amount for now. The city of Kottbus - which you gained from your first merger - should be able to reach 120,000 without you doing anything more than building a museum in the city, and the city of Ratisbon which you gained in your second merger can easily reach 120,000 with an increase in supply of Fruit, Salt, Milk, Cheese and Tools - which are all nearby.

For reference, the cities I had at 120,000+ were Cassel, Frankfurt, Worms, Weimar, Coblenz, Cologne, Essen, Gutersloh, Kottbus, and Ratisbon. The cities of Hanover, Bremen, and Brunswick were also close which gives you some wiggle room and extra choice if one of your cities can't quite make it.

Once you have 10 cities above 120,000 population you will complete Task 12 and be left with the simple task of buying another 9 territories. The choice is yours as any of them will do. After buying 9 more territories you will complete Task 11 and the scenario! You will also be rewarded with the following achievement:

The Train Prince; or, Iron Henry in Railway Empire
Complete the "Patchwork" scenario.
  • Unlocked by 19 tracked gamers (28% - TA Ratio = 4.38) 67

And hopefully, you gained a president rating to earn yourself:

The Emperor's New Rails in Railway Empire
Complete the "Patchwork" scenario as president.
  • Unlocked by 12 tracked gamers (18% - TA Ratio = 5.51) 67

I personally completed this in October 1860 with a rating of 34.4. The first 5 tasks were completed with the maximum score.

Free Mode

As with some of the other DLC's, completing a 100-year era free game can be done in 2 different ways - which are to either complete all your Tasks as quick as you can or just let them all expire - and the choice is up to you.

As there aren't any specific tasks to complete - and the task list is different every time you play a Free Mode game - there isn't much assistance I can give towards completing it. However, if you need to grow cities up to 55,000 population then focus on the first 5 goods (Wheat, Pastries, Vegetables, Sausages and Logs) and then add some of the higher goods if you need a higher population (you will need to supply most of the goods down to Cheese to obtain 120,000+ populations). For connecting X amount of cities, businesses or stations simply connect the required amount of those and you will probably get a couple of other tasks such as build a museum/university at a specific city.

Start a 100-year free mode game on the Germany Map. Start it with the maximum money you can, 0 competitors and turn off territories. Use the normal rail network and I would recommend having Munich as your starting city.

Once your game has loaded, build your rail network around the Munich as the first 5 goods you need are all in the area. There are a few cities you can expand to and grow (Passau, Ratisbon, Nuremberg, Wurzurg and Bayreuth). Get to a point where you are growing all these cities because you want plenty of income.

Once your cities are growing and earning you plenty of money you want to connect to the cities of Konigsberg (North East) and Basle/Basel (South West) for the following achievement:

Railpunzel in Railway Empire
Railpunzel75 (20)
Connect the cities of Basel and Königsberg in a Germany game.
  • Unlocked by 26 tracked gamers (39% - TA Ratio = 3.74) 67

Keep growing the cities in the area you started and once one of your cities reaches 119,000+ population you will have demand for Cuckoo Clocks. You can now work on your next achievement. Build a Toolmakers in Munich (demolish an existing industry if you need to) and supply it with Logs and Iron. Now build a Precision Engineering Manufacturers in either Passau or Ratisbon and supply this with the Tools from Munich and Logs to begin making Cuckoo Clocks.

Build 4 Warehouses near to your city that is producing the Cuckoo Clocks and set them all up to hold 99 of them. Now begin transporting your Cuckoo Clocks to these Warehouses (YOU MUST USE A TRAIN THAT HAS A FREIGHT DESIGNATION such as the Class F, Consolidation B, Fairlie or Mastodon). Once they are all holding 99 Cuckoo Clocks, demolish them all and build another Warehouse to hold Cuckoo Clocks. Start filling this one too (you only need to transport 4 here as you have already done 396) This will total 400 Cuckoo Clocks transported with Freight trains and will unlock you:

Rumpelstilttrain in Railway Empire
Transport 400 cuckoo clocks with freight locomotives in the Germany region.
  • Unlocked by 20 tracked gamers (30% - TA Ratio = 4.27) 67

With that out of the way you just need to complete all your tasks or wait until they all expire for this achievement:

The Steaming Beauty in Railway Empire
Complete a 100-year era free game in Germany.
  • Unlocked by 22 tracked gamers (33% - TA Ratio = 4.07) 67

And that is 8/8 achievements for 200 Gamerscore and concludes this Walkthrough!
