The Long Reach

Hello, and welcome to the TrueAchievements walkthrough for The Long Reach.

The Long Reach is a 2D storytelling horror game developed by Painted Black Games and published by Merge Games. I'm not going to spoil the story but it is enjoyable for a game as short as this one, though I also think that it isn't as enjoyable with a guide. I liked the art style. I personally bought it on sale, €15 is a bit too much for such a short game, but you should definitely give it a go!

Since this is an achievement website, I will of course guide you through all of them. You don't have to fully complete the story to get all the achievements, but if you enjoyed following the story, I think you should. There are collectibles in the form of water coolers and emails with an achievement tied to each, but the walkthrough will cover this. After the last achievement there isn't that much of the game left so it shouldn't take long.

Well then, onto the General Hints & Tips!

I'll be going over the controls in this section.

Controls:

This game doesn't have many controls. You'll only be doing a few things in this game, such as entering doors and elevators alongside picking up certain items to use later on. Most of the time you'll be holding cn_X to run through corridors.

Anyways, these are the controls:

Run - cn_X

Flashlight - cn_RB

Enter door, elevator or hiding spot - cn_A

Pick up item - cn_A while near item.

Read computer emails - cn_A while near a computer.

Drink from water cooler - cn_A while near a water cooler.

Access inventory - cn_Y

Use item in inventory - Press cn_Y to open your inventory, then press cn_A on the item that you want to use while standing near the object you want to use the item on.

Before we begin, I'd like to note that you'll be going through a lot of doors and elevators in this game. Every time you switch floors (or areas) I will list a timestamp of a video walkthrough. You can watch this to find out where you are supposed to go if you get lost.

This video (linked below) is a 100% achievement guide for the game. If you don't feel like reading through my text walkthrough, you can just use the video without missing any achievements.

Alright then, start by selecting "new game".

Once you gain control over your character head over to Simon's Corner on your right and enter it with cn_A.

Simon's Corner

Video Walkthrough - 1:22

Once inside, continue walking to the right and a woman in green clothes will begin talking to you.

You'll have to pick dialogue options here, but they don't really matter apart from a few moments which I'll mention. If you don't care about the story you can mash cn_A while holding cn_LSu or cn_LSd. You'll have to use the left stick to pick dialogue options. The game doesn't auto-select one for you so that you don't accidentally pick the wrong option when pressing cn_A to continue the conversation.

After talking to her, head over to the cabinet which is a little more to the right, next to the soda machine. You can pick up items with cn_A while standing in front of them, so press cn_A while in front of the cabinet to get Jelly.

Head back to your left to engage in another conversation, pick options or mash through it, either way you'll get Simon's Key.

Now head all the way to the back of the shop. Open your inventory with cn_Y and press cn_A on Simon's Key while in front of the door to open it.

From here on I won't be telling you to press cn_A or cn_Y to pick up or open things anymore.

Once inside, go to your right to interact with the phone beneath the board hanging on the wall and go through the conversation. After the conversation, head back into the store and go to the left to notice that everyone has been murdered, you'll then suffer the same fate.

Congratulations, you have made it through the intro, and upon doing so you'll unlock the following achievement:

B3 Floor

Video Walkthrough - 3:14

After the loading screen you'll go through another conversation. Once you're done and gain control of your character head over to the door on your left and enter it.

Interact with the piano under the window and keep interacting with it until you get the intro screen.

When you get control over your character, interact with the medkit to get the Syringe and enter the door.

Interact with the cup on the desk to get My Coffee Cup. Whilst here, also make sure to interact with Computer (1/8) and cycle through each e-mail a couple of times.

Continue to the right and interact with the chocolate on the desk to get the Chocolate and enter the door on your right.

Head to the left and interact with your first Water Cooler (1/7), continue to the left for a little cutscene.

Go a bit more to the left and put your chocolate into the grey cage in the background, it will be the second object to the right of the Christmas lights.

Now go back through the door to the far right where you came from and enter it. After entering, enter it again and go back to the grey cage you put the chocolate in, interact with it and get a Rubber Bone.

What you'll want to do with this rubber bone is to use it on the vending machine to the right of the door, next to the water cooler, to get a Cut Rubber Bone.

Use your cut rubber bone on the elevator panel to the right of the elevator with the green light. Now you can enter the elevator, so enter it and select B2 Floor.

B2 Floor

Video Walkthrough - 6:05

Enter the first door to your right to enter the washroom. Head to the end of the washroom and interact with the thing above the washing machine to get Extension.

A bit more to the left here will be a red paint bucket, use your coffee cup on the red paint to get Bloody Grail and exit the washroom.

Next to the washroom door there will be another Water Cooler (2/7) so make sure to interact with it and then enter the door on the far right.

Interact with the guy in the room and have a conversation with him. Give him the bloody grail when the conversation is over and go through to begin, you guessed it, another conversation.

Now follow the guy to the right where he'll put the bloody grail on his little offering table. After this, enter the double door on the right and you'll see a little cutscene.

Go the the right and hide in the shadows (left side). The murderer will walk over to you. When he walks back, go to the shadows (right side) and activate the red switch which will set off an alarm.

When the murderer is done swinging his weapon he'll walk over to the door. When he's in front of the door, activate the switch again. Then while he's busy swinging his weapon again, walk over to the dead guy on the floor and interact with him to get the Access Card.

Sprint to the door on the very far left and enter it. Use your access card on the elevator on the right and enter it.

Go to the right and use your extension on the power switch to get some green light. Switch the color to red and go back to the murderers location.

Have him spot you and lure the murderer back to the room with the red light, hide in the closet with cn_A. If you do this correctly the killer will be distracted by the red light, giving you enough time to exit through the door and lock him in the room.

Exit the room and enter the door the murderer was previously blocking which is to the far right. Go a bit to the left and interact with the red box to get a Flashlight which you can now use with cn_RB.

Exit through the door and enter the double door to the left. Go through the room and enter the door to the far left. Enter the elevator and select B1 Floor.

Enter the double door on the far right. Use your flashlight and head to the right to take part in another conversation.

After finishing the conversation, interact with the red thing in the background to get Red Plaid.

Head back to the left and enter the double door you came through, enter the elevator. Select B2 Floor.

Enter the double door to your left. Once you're in the room, you should interact with the Water Cooler (3/7) to the right of the double door.

Head to the left and turn on the generator, hanging on the wall next to the door, before entering it.

Interact with the object laying on the desk to the right of the door to get Fridge Room Keys. Now interact with the fridge right next to this desk to get NS-68. Then cycle through all the e-mails on Computer (2/8), which is on another desk to the right of the refrigerator you just interacted with.

Open the vent (this is for later) to the left of the door you came through and then enter the door.

Enter the double door to the far right and then enter the elevator. Select B3 Floor.

Use the fridge room keys on the first door to the right and enter it. Grab the red object at the end of the room to get Red Rag and exit the room.

Head back to the elevator and enter it. Select B2 Floor.

Enter the double door to the far right and then enter the double door to the far right again.

Use your flashlight and enter the office door to the right. Once inside, head left until you see a sink.

Use your red rag on the sink, then turn the sink on so that there will be a flood which will turn off the electricity.

Exit through the door and enter the first double door to the left, then enter the double door to the far left again.

Head back to the elevator and enter it. Select B3 Floor.

Enter the first door to the right and interact with the fridges (might want to turn your flashlight on) until you find yourself some FW-3.

Exit through the door and enter the elevator again. Select B2 Floor.

Enter the second door to the right. Once inside the room, head to the left and interact with the red telephone.

After the conversation ends, interact with Computer (3/8) and cycle through all the e-mails.

Go a bit more to the left until you're standing in front of the mixer. Use NS-68 and FW-3 on the mixer and then interact with it.

After mixing, use your syringe on the mixer to get NS-FW34 Shot. Now exit the room and enter the double door to the far left.

Enter the door on the far left and use your NS-FW34 Shot on the woman sitting on the floor at the far right.

Go through the conversation and use your red plaid on her after it ends. Go through another conversation and then head to the far left of the room to enter the vent we previously opened.

Doing so will unlock the following achievement:

After gaining control of your character, interact with Computer (4/8) right next to you and cycle through all the e-mails.

Go to the right and pick up Stan's Key laying on the floor. Now you can enter the door to your left.

Enter the door and then enter the elevator. Select B2 Floor.

Enter the double door to the far right and then enter the double door to the far right again.

Use your flashlight and enter the first door on the left. Once inside the room, use Stan's Key on the last locker to the right.

There will be two objects inside. Interact with the right object to view Stan's note and interact with the left object to get Tranquilizer.

Exit the room and enter the office door to the far right. You'll see someone inside the room so you might want to turn off your flashlight just to be safe.

If you go a bit to the left you should notice a coffee maker. Use your tranquilizer on the coffee maker and then interact with it to turn it on.

After doing so, immediately hide under the desk right next to the coffee maker. The murderer will drink some coffee and get knocked out, allowing you to proceed to the left.

Interact with the hand of the corpse laying on the table to get Cut Hand. Exit the room and enter the first double door to your left.

Enter the double door to the far left and enter the elevator. Select B1 Floor.

B1 Floor

Use the cut hand on the panel next to the first door on your left to gain access to the room and enter it.

Go to the right of the room and pick up the Lockdown Key from the key rack. Open the cabinet to pick up the Red Crowbar inside it.

Use the lockdown key on the machine to the left of the door and push the red button.

A phone (next to the key rack) will begin to ring, so answer it and go through the conversation.

After the conversation ends, pick up the Phone Battery now laying right next to the phone. Open the microwave to the left and use your phone battery on it.

Turn on the microwave and head to a safe spot (it will explode), then enter through the hole in the wall.

Go to the right and use the red crowbar on the first elevator and enter it. Now enter the door on the left to go outside.

Head to the left and interact with the ladder. This will unlock the following achievement:

Diner

You'll be playing as a different character now. Have a conversation with the guy sitting at the bar and Stewart, our previous character, will come running by.

After regaining control, head to the right until a cat jumps onto the bar. Then talk to the guy sitting at the bar again.

Now you can leave your position behind the bar by opening the little bar door at the left. Enter the first door on your left.

Now open the third door to have Stewart give you a punch in the face. Enjoy!

You'll now be playing as Stewart again. Head a bit to the right and interact with the plant to get a Locker Key.

Remove the boxes to see a window. Open the first cabinet to get some new clothes.

Then open the second cabinet to get yourself a Screwdriver. Use your screwdriver on the window and then exit through it.

Doing so will unlock the following achievement:

Go a bit to the right and interact with the radio. Try to go through the door on the far right, you can't.

Now go through the door on the far left and interact with the radio again.

You'll get surrounded by what looks like zombies and you'll automatically kill them all.

After this little cutscene you'll unlock the following achievement:

After regaining control, head to your left and talk to the junkie to get Drugs.

Head back to your spot and interact with it to sit down and inject that stuff into your veins.

One of the scientists from a while back will now have a conversation with you.

After the conversation ends, talk to the knight chained to the wall to go through another conversation.

Head to the far left and have another conversation with the scientist. You'll now be back in the crackhouse.

After vomiting, enter the first door to the right to unlock the following achievement:

Enter the building with the double door to your right, the Institution.

Go to the right and interact with the Water Cooler (4/7), which is to the right of the first double door at your right.

Enter the double door to the right of the water cooler and head to the left until you can see a desk.

Interact with the object on the desk to get Champagne Bucket and enter the second glass double door to the right.

Have a conversation with the man sitting on the floor to the right and pick up the Keys on the desk.

Now keep going to the left until you see another Water Cooler (5/7), interact with it.

Exit the room and enter the double door at the far right. Now use your keys on the first door on your right and enter it.

Enter the door at the far left and pick up the Wire Cutters on the left. Exit the room.

Enter the double door on the far right and then enter the door on the far left of the Institution.

Enter the door on your right and pick up WD-40 from the desk on your right. Head further to the right and also grab Outside Keys.

Exit the room and enter the door on your right. Now go outside through the double door.

Use the WD-40 on the rusty cabinet on your right and proceed to open it with the outside keys.

Pick up the Cables and head back inside.

Institution

Enter the door on the far left and enter the door to the far left again.

Use the wire cutters on the lock and proceed to use the champagne bucket on the fuel valve to get Bucket Full of Gas.

Head to your right and use the bucket full of gas on the big red button.

Go to the right and interact with the power box. Now use your cables on the power box which will connect it to the generator.

Press the small red button to get light and exit the room.

Enter the door on your right and then enter the double door to the right of the water cooler.

Enter the first glass double door and have another conversation with the man sitting on the floor.

Go to the left and cycle through all the e-mails on Computer (5/8).

Exit the room and enter the glass double door to your left.

Head to the left and cycle through all e-mails on Computer (6/8) and interact with another Water Cooler (6/7) to your left.

Exit the room and enter the glass double door on the far left. Exit the room and enter the double door on the far right.

Enter the door to your right and interact with the panel next to the elevator (this elevator looks a bit different). You'll then be slaughtered.

Once you regain control, enter the door on the far left and interact with the blue fabric to the right of the door to get a Spider.

Exit the room and enter the double door on the far right. Enter the double door on your left.

Enter the glass double door on the far left and have a conversation with the guy inside the room.

After the dude commits suicide, you can interact with his corpse to get A Gun.

Doing so will unlock the following achievement:

Exit the room and enter the first glass double door on your right.

Pick up the Candy Cane from the desk on your right and exit the room.

Enter the double door on the far right and then enter the door on the far left.

Enter the door on your right and interact with the painting to remove it, grab the Candle behind it.

Exit the room and enter the door on your left. Head over to the safe (there's a red reindeer next to it).

Use the items on the safe in the following order: Candle - Mistletoe - Spider - Candy Cane.

Open the safe and grab the Keys.

You'll also unlock the following achievement:

Enter the door on the far left and then enter the door on the far left again.

Head to the right and use the keys on the panel (next to the small red button) on the generator.

Now press the small red button so that the lights will turn on again.

Exit the room and enter the first door on your right, then enter the door on the far right.

Enter the elevator again, this time you won't get murdered.

Doing so will unlock the following achievement:

I haven't listed a timestamp to the video walkthrough in a while since we're still in the same area, but your dialogue options actually matter in this section so I'll list a timestamp anyways.

Video Walkthrough - 38:00

To survive in this situation, select the following dialogue options:

  • You remember me?
  • I worship Alan's shadow.
  • What did you do Maxwell?
  • I'm neither of those things

He'll now walk back and forth a bit. Interact with the table to kick the head when he's not paying attention.

It's done three times in the video walkthrough and I'm not sure how many times you need to kick it, but I am sure that this guy murdered me when I didn't kick the head.

If done correctly, he should untie you, but don't start mashing through the dialogue yet since there's still one dialogue option that matters.

Select the following dialogue option before mashing your way through:

  • Yeah, who cares? How can I get to this Alan dude?

Okay, now you should be good to go again. Go ahead.

Oh, and you might want to select the dialogue option "I think I'd better go", if you don't want a long conversation.

Head to the left and interact with the machine to get Torn Belt and then pick up the Key from the desk to the right of the head.

Exit the room and interact with the vending machine next to the double door on the far left to get a Coin.

Enter the double door on the far left and then enter the double door on the far left again (use your key).

Enter the double door on the far left and enter the door on the far left again.

Interact with the green bottle on the left to get Dropper and cycle through all e-mails on Computer (7/8) to the right.

Enter the door on your right and interact with the cabinet to the left to pick up the Solvent inside it.

Exit the room and use your solvent on the glue to the right of the door.

Now use your dropper on the glue to get Dropper with Glue, enter the door you just came through.

Interact with the object on the right (to the left of the computer), use your torn belt on it.

Now use your dropper with glue on it and interact with the machine to dry the belt to get a Fixed Belt.

Exit through the door on the far right. There's a murderer in the hallway so go back through the door and hide in the closet to the left of it.

Wait until the murderer is out of sight to come out of the closet and then enter the door on your right.

Enter the door to the far right and pick up the Gong on the right (it's on a desk).

Also pick up the Uber Jingly from the corpse and cycle through all e-mails on our final Computer (8/8).

This will unlock you the following achievement:

Exit the room and enter the door on the far left. Now enter the door on your left.

Use the Uber Jingly on the machine to the left of the door to get Key Ring.

The murderers location here can be different for everyone so if you happen to run into him, run back to the closet and hide in it until he's gone.

Enter the door on the far left and enter the first double door on your right. Now enter the double door on the far right.

Enter the double door on the far right again and enter the door on your far right. You're now back to where we started.

Use the fixed belt on the machine on the far left to get a Figurine. Exit the room and enter the double door on the far left.

Have a conversation with Maxwell, the guy who tied you to the chair. After talking to him for a bit select "I think I'd better go" and then use your figurine on him.

Note: Broken figurines won't work.

If done correctly Maxwell will leave, allowing you to pick up the Bell to your left. Previously Maxwell would've stopped you.

Enter the double door to the far left and then enter the first double door on your left.

Outside

Video Walkthrough - 45:08

Run to the right to see a Christmas tree. In the middle, place the Key Ring and the Gong.

Put the Bell on the right, now you'll have to ring the bells in a certain order.

The bells will be given a number, 1 through 3, from the left starting with 1.

Enter the door. This will unlock the following achievement:

Ruin

I don't know if this area actually has a name, but it looks like a ruin so let's go with that.

Talk to the scientist sitting on the floor. We'll have to go back all the way to her office, so exit the ruin.

Outside -> Institution

Head back to the left, the Institution, and enter the door.

Enter the double door to your left. Then enter the double door on your right.

If the killer is there, head back through the double door and hide in the vent to the left of the double door.

Enter the door to the far right and interact with the phone laying on the desk to your right.

Go through the conversation and exit the room. Enter the double door on your left.

Enter the double door on your left again, then enter the double door to your right and keep going right to head back to the ruin.

Outside -> Ruin -> Interrogation Room

Video Walkthrough - 47:16

Talk to the scientist again. After the conversation you'll suddenly be in an interrogation room.

Your dialogue choices matter here.

There's a load of dialogue here and you'll have to go through almost all of it.

Now, I won't be typing everything out. Just keep clicking on new questions you can ask.

When you get the three options "Relax Jim", "Shut up and listen to me" and "Drug him" you should always choose "Drug him" because the other two options never work, at least not that I'm aware of. You could follow the video walkthrough for this one, or just figure it out yourself. The second option is probably faster.

Institution

After the dude finally gives the right answer you'll be back in the Institution. Enter the door on the far left.

Now enter the double door on the far left and then enter the double door on the far right.

Enter the double door on the far right again and then interact with the panel next to the elevator.

Enter the elevator, which will unlock the following achievement:

Head to the right and interact with the Knight.

You'll have a conversation with him, your dialogue options don't really matter until the final moment, so don't go through them too fast.

Eventually you'll have to pick between "Step away" and "How do I kill you?".

Choosing the second option will give you the option to "Kill Alan".

There's an achievement tied to each option, but we can get both by quickly quitting out once the first unlocks and then reload to get the other.

Let's say we kill him first. Choose "Kill Alan" and you'll gain the following achievement:

Press continue from the main menu and you'll be in front of the elevator again.

So, interact with the panel and interact with the Knight, this time choosing "Step away" and you'll unlock your final achievement:

That's it, you should have another 1000G by now, within 1-3 hours.
