Fall of Light: Darkest Edition

External image

Welcome to my achievement walkthrough for Fall of Light: Darkest Edition, a hack and slash dungeon crawler developed by the Italian indie game studio RuneHeads.

Fall of Light combines elements of Diablo, Dark Souls, and Ico where you control an aging warrior who is trying to lead his daughter through a dark and dangerous world to the last remnants of sunlight.

There are 23 achievements in this single player game that requires two playthroughs to complete. At the time of the writing of this walkthrough, this game has a TA score of 8241 with two completions, the first of which was by me. There was hardly any information available about this game and honestly, it's not that difficult so the ratios should plummet once this walkthrough is published.

Fall of Light is an isometric hack and slash where you control a warrior who is accompanied by Aether, an Indigo Child that you must protect as you journey through the game. Your character has a health meter (broken into nodes- you start with 5) and a stamina meter that you must manage as you attack/block and run.

There are many different weapons, both one-handed and two-handed, that are found in static locations throughout the world (nothing is random). I found combat to be easiest with the two-handed Bastard Sword found fairly early on, eventually upgrading to a similar, stronger Giant Sword. You start with a one-handed sword and shield and in my opinion, combat with one-handed weapons is difficult, even against easy enemies.

Each weapon has an auxiliary effect called a weapon skill that has a chance of occurring each time you hit an enemy:

Controls

  • cn_LS Move
  • cn_RT Normal attack
  • cn_RB Hard attack
  • cn_LT Block (if you have a shield equipped)
  • cn_LB Swap to the Lantern (note that you can run faster while holding the lantern)
  • cn_A Interact
  • cn_X Call Aether to you or tell Aether to stay in place (press), Take Aether by the hand (hold)
  • cn_X Trace a path to Aether (if she has been abducted or killed)
  • cn_Y Open inventory menu
  • cn_B Roll (press), Run (hold)
  • cn_RS Lock onto enemy (press)
  • cn_left Swap weapons
  • cn_up Heal
  • cn_down Activate Shadow mode
  • cn_start Pause

Aether

Aether is your companion that you must protect as you progress through the game. She will follow you automatically, crouching and cowering when enemies are close. Enemies will mostly ignore her, although they may attack her unintentionally as they are trying to attack you. If she is killed, you will get a prompt to bring Aether back from her ashes. You can press cn_X to trace a path to her provided you are in the same area where she died.

Throughout the world, shadow enemies will occasionally appear and attempt to abduct Aether. You have several seconds to kill them and if you don't do so in time, they will take her to the nearest jail cage. You can press cn_X to trace a path to her and when this happens, you need to make it a priority to find her jail cage and pull a nearby lever to release her.

While you are close to Aether, your sword will glow indicating that she is "increasing your strength and ability." I'm not sure if this increases your combat damage but it should improve the chances that the combat skill occurs. You will find Shrines of Wisdom throughout the game and each one increases the chances of a specific combat skill.

You can press cn_X to tell Aether to stay where she is. Press it again and she will come to you. If you hold cn_X, you will take Aether by the hand and she will run along with you. Note that after doing this for 10 or so seconds, Aether will fall down and then move slowly for a short amount of time.

Whenever you transition to a new area, make sure that Aether is nearby (or that you are holding her hand) so she goes with you.

Shrines

There are three types of Shrines in the game:

  • Shrine of Power (dozens throughout the world): respawn point, heals and refills healing charges, respawns all enemies
    External image
  • Shrine of Wisdom (5 total): grant Combat Skill upgrades
    External image
  • Shrine of Courage (4 total): unlock Echoes from the Other side (required for the good ending)

The Amulet of Shadows

You receive the Amulet of Shadows early on. This item grants you a limited, refillable healing ability that starts with three charges and can be increased to 10. You can press cn_up to heal five units of health per healing charge. Healing charges are refilled by resting at a Shrine of Power.

The Amulet of Shadows also allows you to consume a healing charge to enter Shadow form. This lasts for several seconds indicated by a depleting stamina bar and during this time, you have unlimited stamina. I thought this would be helpful but I tried to use it and found it to be worthless.

The amulet also provides a "level up" meter that fills as you kill enemies. Once it's full, rest at a Shrine of Power to empty the meter and gain an additional node of health.

Fragments of Luce

There are 100 Fragments of Luce that can be found throughout the world and you need all 100 for an achievement. 70 can be found in static locations and 30 come from killing the three Giants (each drops 10). Some fragments are visible out in the open but most are inside breakable objects- crates and jars- that emit a purple shimmer indicating that a fragment is inside.

Breakable objects contain nothing else so there's no reason to break any that I don't point out as containing a fragment.

The Blacksmith in the Desert will give you the Giant Sword (the best weapon in the game) once you possess 50 or more fragments.

For each fragment, I'll indicate progress with two numbers- the first being progress in the current area and the second being total progress.

The World

The world is made up of several distinct areas.

  • The Place without a Voice
  • The City of Yersinia
  • The Forest of Separation
  • The Water Dungeon
  • The Dying Land (the desert)
  • The Fire Dungeon
  • The Mountains of Solitude
  • The Electricity Dungeon
  • The Swamp of Desolation

There is some nonlinear inter-connectivity between the areas. The City connects to the Forest, the Desert, and the Mountains. The Forest connects to the Water Dungeon and to the Swamp. The Desert connects to the Fire Dungeon and to the Mountains. The Mountains connect to the Swamp. The game explains a ramp in difficulty from the Forest (described as a 1 skull area), the Desert (described a s a 2 skull area) and the Mountains (described as a 3 skull area) so you should go through the areas in that order in your Normal playthrough.

The goal is to collect the three elemental shards so that Aether can use them to open a gate in the City of Yersinia that leads to the final boss.

Endings

There are three different Endings: good, normal, and bad. You can get the bad ending after getting the good or normal ending by reloading your checkpoint and taking a specific action.

After acquiring each of the three elemental shards, you must carry Aether to a sunray in a timed sequence. You cannot fail any of the sunray sequences otherwise you are permanently put on the path to the bad ending. If you fail one, you can continue to the bad ending but you would need to start over in order to get back on the path to the good or normal endings. I'll explain and provide videos to show the way to handle each sequence since succeeding with them is vital for achievement completion.

The good ending also requires finding the four Shrines of Courage whereas the Normal ending requires not finding them.

Books, NPCs, and Giants

There are seven books, seven NPCs, and three Giants that you must find/interact with fully/kill for the associated achievements. I'll explain these in detail in the walkthrough.

Dying

You'll die a lot as you progress through the game. The first time you do, an achievement will unlock:

One chants out between two worlds in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Die
  • Unlocked by 190 tracked gamers (99% - TA Ratio = 1.00) 192

When you die, you permanently lose any level-up progress in the meter and you respawn at the last Shrine of Power you rested at. Aether will die whenever you die and her ashes will be left at the place where you died. You can press cn_X to trace a path back to her.

Brightness

From the in-game pause menu, I suggest you max out brightness to make things easier to see.

The Place without Voice

External image

You'll gain control of your character in a small area and as soon as you walk forward you'll be prompted to press cn_X to call Aether. Do so and she will come to you. You will be told that you can hold cn_X to take her by the hand, so do so to see how this mechanic works. You can let go and she will follow you automatically.

To your immediate left are two capes that you can interact with to adjust your appearance. Interact with a book on the desk at the bottom (Book I, 1/7), then head upward and interact with the orange hint on the ground to get info about Aether. Continue forward to find another hint on the ground telling you that you need a weapon to defeat enemies. Head to the left and follow the path around and upward into another stone area. You will see a body in the first room on the left with a purple shimmer- interact with it and you will receive a Fragment of Luce (1/5, 1/100).

Continue along the path leading upward and you'll see a lit up object on the left side. Weapons are always indicated by this sort of shimmering light. Pick up this shield with cn_Y (it will be auto-equipped) and you'll be told that cn_LT is used to block. Continue upward (you'll see a weapon off to the right- we'll be back for that soon) and you'll trigger a brief cutscene. Talk to the witch NPC until she repeats herself, then open the nearby chest and pick up the lamp. You can toggle to the lamp with cn_LB which adds some extra lightning around you but if you maxed out brightness as I suggested, this is rarely helpful. Note that you can move more quickly when you are actively holding the lamp.

Carefully go behind the stone structure to find a Fragment of Luce (2/5, 2/100), then continue along the path to the left. The hint in the ground will warn you to watch your step, so continue across the next bridge until you reach the gate to the cemetery. Open it, then interact with the hint on the ground for an explanation of Shrines of Power.

External image
Approach the shrine, press cn_A to kneel in front of it, and an achievement will unlock:

The Garden of Live Flowers in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Consacrate a Shrine of Power
  • Unlocked by 151 tracked gamers (79% - TA Ratio = 1.12) 192

To the right of the shrine is a sword- pick it up and you'll be told that you do a normal attack with cn_RT and a hard attack with cn_RB. You'll also be told that you can press cn_RSc to lock onto a target. Kill the cowering enemy and move into the graveyard. Take the path on the right side and you'll notice several enemies around the area. You want to engage enemies one at a time whenever possible, especially until you get a better handle on combat and a stronger weapon. Combat in this game can feel a little clunky and the basic sword has very little range, so your best bet for engaging these enemies is to hold up your shield, get close and circle behind them, then attack them after they attack you (which you should be able to avoid or block).

An important attack combo is cn_RT, cn_RB which does a normal attack followed by a hard attack. You'll need to learn weapon range, attack timing, and stamina management in order to be successful in combat.

Just ahead three is a ground hint that explains blood crystals and recharging the lamp, but I honestly never had any reason to worry about this (you can switch to the lamp, then stand near them and hold cn_A to refill the lamp meter). The path forks again and you'll see a shielded enemy to the right. Ignore him and take the left path, killing a few more enemies along the way. There's a trap to the left of the big tree that emits a yellow light when you get close and knocks you down briefly, so be aware of that. You can roll through it to avoid being knocked down. In the upper left part of this area is a crypt door and interacting with it will trigger the first boss battle with the Guardian of the Graveyard. You want full health for this battle so if you've taken damage from the enemies (which is likely), I suggest resting at the Shrine of of Power, then making your way back. Should you die to this boss, you can run back to this area past the enemies and they will be locked out of the boss area as soon as you enter, but they will follow you in initially until you've tried to open the door to make the boss appear.

The Guardian of the Graveyard is a strong knight with a flaming sword that has two different types of attacks. He will start by attacking you directly with his sword and your best bet is to try to circle around him to avoid (or block) his attacks, then counterattack with a hard attack. You'll have to work out the timing of his attacks and manage stamina to get your own attacks inefficiently. After a short while, he will crouch and call down a shower of burning projectiles. These projectiles will track your movement and the only way to avoid them is to roll away with cn_B right before they hit you.

Once you defeat the boss, an achievement will unlock:

The Guardian of the Gates in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Kill the Guardian of the Graveyard
  • Unlocked by 56 tracked gamers (29% - TA Ratio = 1.85) 192

Approach the orange light to enter the Temple of Melancholy. Once inside you will be told that you can press cn_X to ask Aether to stay where she is. Do so and interact with the hint on the ground which tells you to roll to avoid the trap (the plate on the left with several circular nodes). Roll past it, then interact with the lever on the wall nearby to open the door on the left. Continue left to trigger a brief cutscene, after which you will receive the Amulet of Shadows.

You will regain control in an ethereal area.

External image

Go right and interact with the NPC at the end for some backstory. You'll then be back in the temple where you should notice a new symbol in your HUD with an empty meter and three nodes (uses) that you can increase eventually. Interact with the ground hints as you exit the temple for a full explanation of the Amulet of Shadows (most importantly, you can press cn_up to use a node from the amulet to heal five units of health).

Backtrack to the Shrine of Power and rest to refill your health and amulet uses (remember that this brings all normal enemies back, as well). You'll notice that the new meter will start to fill as you kill enemies and if you die, you PERMANENTLY lose all progress in the meter, so be very careful. Once the meter is full, you can rest at a Shrine of Power to empty the meter (level up, I guess) and receive an additional node of health. It couldn't hurt to make a few runs through the enemies in the graveyard to fill the meter for an extra health node before moving on.

I'll quickly point out the area up/to the left of the shrine where you'll see a hanging jail cage with a nearby lever. As you continue through the game, shadow enemies will occasionally appear and attempt to abduct Aether. If you fail to kill them in time, they take her to the nearest jail cage which you can press cn_X to illuminate a path to. If Aether is taken this way, you'll want to stop whatever you're working on and release her from the jail cage before attempting to progress further. Not only do you need her assistance with various tasks but you can't interact with shrines when she is not with you.

Backtrack towards the starting area and interact again with the witch NPC (being sure to advance her new dialogue to the point that it repeats). Continue backtracking until you pass the stone area where you got the shield and if you follow the path to the right you'll see an area with a square crate. Smash it with your sword to reveal a Fragment of Luce (3/5, 3/100). Head down and into the starting room, break the barrel on the right, and grab the Fragment of Luce inside (4/5, 4/100). Then head back and take the path to the right. Kill two enemies and you'll see a bridge on the left, but continue straight and you'll see a hut at the end of the path guarded by a strong enemy. This black knight has a few attacks that either deal multiple nodes of damage or flat out one-shot you, so approach him with extreme caution. After he is dead, flip the switch in the hut to open a door. Head across the nearby bridge and kill the four enemies in this area one at a time. Then carefully follow the thin path heading upward (toggle the lantern for better visibility) and enter the Cave of Sorrow which contains a Shrine of Wisdom (1/5).

External image

Kneel in front of it and you'll get a notification that Aether's power has increased. Backtrack from here all the way to the stone area where you found the shield. Step on the grey circle and a hint will appear that explains runic circles. Enter the room on the right and Aether should sit on the fountain. Climb the pillar at the top to get to the grassy section, then walk straight upward to drop down the area below where you can pick up a crossbow. Use cn_left to toggle between weapons and fire the crossbow to get a feel for how it works. Press cn_RT when it's empty to reload it, but note that this animation takes a few seconds. The crossbow will be very useful for the next stretch of the game until you get to what I consider to be a vastly superior weapon- the Bastard Sword. Enter the swirling lights to be teleported to the runic circle and then make your way upward back to the graveyard and rest at the Shrine of Power.

Use the crossbow on these enemies to get some practice with it. Be sure to reload after killing each enemy, firing off any remaining shots in order to do so. As you approach the black smoke blocking the path in the upper right area, you'll get a prompt to break down the shadows. This will trigger the first encounter with shadow enemies that try to abduct Aether. Leave them alone and they will do exactly that and you can get an achievement out of the way. Once she has been abducted you can press cn_X to trace a path to her location, which is near the Shrine of Power. Interact with the lever near her jail cage to free her, unlocking an achievement:

The Rescue in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Free Aether from a jail
  • Unlocked by 41 tracked gamers (21% - TA Ratio = 2.16) 192

Make your way past where the smoke was blocking the path and you'll find another Shrine of Power. Rest before entering the nearby cave and consider grinding out a level up if you're close before moving on.

External image
Enter the Cave of Whispers and as you start moving right you'll notice traps on the wall that shoot arrows. After passing the second set, a wall will break revealing a strong enemy and a weapon. This enemy will take damage from the arrow traps if you can lead him into them. He hits hard and has a lot of health and killing him is optional (the crossbow might be a better option than direct combat). The weapon on the ground is a dagger which I found to be completely useless. Continue past two more sets of arrow traps, climb a ladder, and drop down on the other side to pull a lever so Aether can progress with you. The nearby floor hint will suggest fire for progressing, so switch to your lantern and burn the spider web blocking your path.

The next floor hint gives some combat details and the next two enemies are reasonably tough and should be taken out with the crossbow. Each requires five shots each to kill, and be sure to reload after each one. Continue along the path to the right past a few hanging bodies and touch the last one to collect a Fragment of Luce (5/5, 5/100). Back up and kill the enemy with the sickle by luring him towards you, noting that five crossbow shots will not kill him so you'll need to finish him off with the sword. Proceed into the next room and heed the floor hint by avoiding the central opening and instead hugging the left wall to avoid an instant kill trap. The next floor hint will suggest collaboration, so get Aether onto one of the square panels on either side, then press cn_X to keep her in place before moving onto the other yourself which opens the way forward.

Follow the path upward to exit the cave.

The City of Yersinia

External image
Once outside, cross a bridge and rest at the Shrine of Power, then interact with the nearby ground hint for a bonfire explanation. Interact with the bonfire to unlock an achievement:
Fire walk with me in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Kindle a bonfire
  • Unlocked by 23 tracked gamers (12% - TA Ratio = 2.88) 192

Bring Aether with you as you follow the path forward. Make sure your crossbow is reloaded as you'll be approached by a knight that can be killed with five shots. Reload again and continue, killing another knight along the path. When you reach a bridge you'll see a stronger shielded knight and an archer beyond him. You should try to aggro both and keep the enemies aligned so that the archer shoots the shielded knight in the back as he comes towards you. Then take out the archer, which can be annoying as he will shoot several shots before needing to reload, which is a good time to close the gap and attack him. After he is dead, continue forward and there will be two strong knights with halberds to kill- aggro them individually and soften them up with the crossbow, then finish them off with melee attacks. You will then reach an open area with a closed gate in the distance.

External image
Upon entering the open area, three shadow enemies will attempt to abduct Aether. Kill them but don't approach the gate or a laser will shoot you. Inch left and a knight will come at you from the bottom, so take him out and continue left to aggro a second knight. Once he is dead, approach the grey pillar with the orange symbol and interact with it to deactivate something, then climb the nearby wooden structure for a Fragment of Luce (1/10, 6/100).

Head up some steps on the left and kill the knight that charges you, then kill the archer in the next area. Try not to go too far left so you don't stir up the Halberd knight across the gap. Go to the bottom of the area to rest at a Shrine of Power, then carefully take out the archer and knight at the top of the area again (you should be able to catch them off guard with the crossbow- archer then knight). Stand under the nearby tree to find that one of the hanging bodies is alive.

External image
Talk to it and she will give you an apple, then keep talking until she repeats herself. Approach the lower bridge, kill the knight that comes at you, then go across to find a ground hint. The nearby cage contains a giant that is far too tough to bother with now so don't use the lever to unlock the door to the cage. There are three such giants that must eventually be killed and each drops 10 Fragments of Luce. In the area above the giant is a jail cell that could potentially house Aether should she be abducted, so keep that in mind.

Head back to the right and when you get to the open area with the gate, stay at the bottom to avoid the laser. Walk along the stone path up to the building and aggro a knight from the top right, then kill him with the crossbow. You want to be careful not to drift too far downward until the knight is dead as there is a new type of enemy down there- an assassin. As you near the grassy patch it will come at you, so take it out with the crossbow if you can. Then inch down/right to aggro another assassin but be careful as there are two more knights slightly farther to the right. Once they are all dead, you can open a chest at the bottom with a shield upgrade which you might as well take (replace your current shield). Then head to the top/right and interact with the second grey pillar to disable the laser at the gate. Head downward and kill two more assassins in the area below, then break a crate on the wooden pier to reveal a Fragment of Luce (2/10, 7/100). Follow the path downward to a pedestal with an Amulet of Shadows upgrade which adds another usage node.

External image

You can now approach the gate and pull a lever to open the way into the city. The path inside immediately splits left/right/upward and you will see a new enemy patrolling this area that looks like a witch. Five crossbow shots will not kill them but will weaken them enough that one additional sword attack will be lethal. Head right first and you'll notice a shimmer on the second barrel in a group of four. Break it for a Fragment of Luce (3/10, 8/100), then continue right to find a Shrine of Power and rest.

Head back to the left and fight your way past several enemies. Continue past the entrance and follow the path heading left. After the path turns upward you will see three assassin enemies together. Carefully kill them and continue until you see a path branching to the right. There are four enemies here- two normal and two shielded- so carefully kill them one at a time and loot the Bastard Sword from behind the fountain, exchanging it for your Sword and Shield. This was a major turning point for me with combat as I found that the Bastard Sword's range and increased damage made combat much easier. The cn_RT, cn_RB combo kills almost everything and my general plan of attack was to let enemies walk into range and attack them as they did. Beware, though, that it takes a lot of stamina to use so you'll have to practice with it to familiarize yourself with its range, speed, and how much stamina s required to do the normal and hard attacks.

Remember that since you can only hold the weapons in your two active slots, the original Sword and Shield will be left on the ground where you picked up the Bastard Sword should you have a desire to change back at some point.

Backtrack to the main entrance and from here, the plan is take the upward central path (head back to the Shrine of Power to heal first if you need to). You should encounter a few more witches and then you'll see some steps that lead down to the next area where you'll be attacked by two assassins. Kill them and continue along past a locked gate to find a large door that you can open.

External image

You may be attacked from the right by a strong shielded knight so kill him and continue right rather than going into the church. I found success with a cn_RB, cn_RT combo, then backing up to wait for stamina regen and repeating. Kill a second shielded knight and follow the path to reach a Shrine of Power. Make a note of the barrier on the right- this leads to the final boss so you will be returning here at the end of the playthrough. Backtrack to the giant door (you'll need to kill the two shielded knights again) and go inside. Interact with the book on the front bench (Book III, 2/7), then talk to the Priestess at the altar. Exhaust her dialogue, then break the pot on her left to reveal a Fragment of Luce (4/10, 9/100). Flip the switch at the top of the stairs on the left side of the room to open the door on the right, then enter the Place of Lost Memories.

External image

You'll see some moving sawblades that you need to avoid as they will kill you instantly. Go to the top of the area left of the sawblade and kill a shielded knight and as you go around the second sawblade on the right you'll aggro a giant knight. Try to kite him into a sawblade for an instant kill, otherwise you'll have to engage him directly. As you round the last sawblade you'll have to kill another shielded knight, then you can continue to the right. Enter the first opening you come to, kill an assassin, and flip a switch to open a door. Continue forward and once the room opens up you'll be approached by an assassin. Just ahead you'll see a slow spinning fire contraption that you need to be careful with as the fire will kill you instantly. Circle around the top and once you get just out of fire range, inch down to see a dangerous black knight. You do not want to go toe to toe with these guys as they can one shot you sometimes, which is very annoying. Bait him into your combo attack and when he is dead, circle to the front of the rotating contraption and take the downward path where you'll be attacked by a halberd knight and an assassin. You'll see another assassin in an alcove on the right and after killing her, break the five gold pots to reveal a Fragment of Luce (5/10, 10/100).

Continue downward past another shielded knight and through the door that opened earlier. Beware of another black knight in here and break the barrel in the bottom left corner to reveal a Fragment of Luce (6/10, 11/100). You'll find a chest with a Halberd in the next room that you can test out if you'd like (you can always return here to swap back to the Bastard Sword if you want but I stuck with the sword). Backtrack to the fire contraption and go right but be careful as you'll engage another black knight. After killing him, grab Aether by the hand and cross the spike traps along the top wall to avoid getting hit.

You'll notice a symbol on the ground. This leads to one of three secret areas that Aether can unlock after collecting one of the three elemental shards. There is an achievement for finding all three that I couldn't get to unlock in normal mode. I'll point them out and then remind you to go to them in your Nightmare playthrough as the achievement works there.

Continuing right, you'll come to a larger room and see a strong shielded knight.

External image

Engage him like any other enemy by baiting him into your normal, hard combo, then keep distance while stamina regenerates and repeat. Moving further right after he is dead, you'll find a new mage enemy that shoots fireballs at you. Once you've gotten his attention, move away and kite him around a pillar so that you can get an angle on him without being in the line of his fire attacks. Once he is dead, interact with a book on one of the bookshelves (Book IV, 3/7), then lead Aether to the far right bookshelf where you can interact with it from the right side to push it, revealing a lever. Pull the lever to open the door back at the start of this area. Head all the way back left and exit upward.

You'll be back outside and as soon as you step forward you might aggro some knights. A ground hint will mention skulls that indicate difficulty which I'll explain shortly. Kill the knights in the immediate vicinity (they will die to a single hard attack from the Bastard Sword) with the goal of heading to the left. Carefully kill the black knight by a bridge, then go across to find a Shrine of Power and rest. Continue to the left and kill two witches, then go up some stairs to reach a more open area. You may see a witch patrolling at the top and that upward/right path leads through an alley and to a jail cage which you may never need to visit unless Aether gets taken there by shadow enemies. For now, go downward and find a path to a walkway with an archer that you want to kill (you can roll through his arrows to get to him). Follow the path the other way to kill a second archer, then return to the open area to kill a strong shielded gold knight guarding a gate with normal/hard attack combos. Once he's dead, you can pull the lever on the wall to open the gate but don't go inside yet. You may also notice a somewhat hard to see skull above the gate- this is what the ground hint was talking about earlier. Later gates are marked with two and then three skulls indicating an increase in the difficulty of the area beyond.

From here, head down/left until you aggro a black knight. Remember to be very careful and use your range to keep them away from you, ideally connecting with normal, hard combo attacks. Kill him and continue along this path to find a glowing entrance on the right. Keep moving down along the path to kill another black knight, then break a barrel along the bottom wall and collect a Fragment of Luce (7/10, 12/100). You can open the nearby gate if you want but it's not necessary as there's no reason to come back here again. The glowing entrance leads to a room with a few knights and a chest with an Axe so you have no need to bother going inside.

Backtrack to the Shrine of Power and rest, then return to the previous area with skewered corpses and fight through the enemies to continue to the right and upward.

External image

You'll see a foggy path ahead, so continue through it and you'll encounter a strong knight with a large hammer. You can soften him with the crossbow before finishing him off directly, then continue upward and you'll see two crates on the left, the second of which contains a Fragment of Luce (8/10, 13/100). You'll also trigger some shadow enemies around here, so quickly kill them to prevent Aether's abduction.

Approach the wooden steps just past the Fragment of Luce and you'll get a prompt to talk. Do so and exhaust the dialogue with this NPC behind the door, then continue upward. You'll have to kill another assassin before reaching a set of steps that lead into a larger area. Inch forward to aggro the knight on the left and kill him, then you'll see a strong red knight in the distance. There is another normal knight to the right so try not to go towards him while you bait the red knight to you so you can kill him with normal, hard combo attacks. Kill the remaining knight, then approach the gate and pull the lever to open it. This gate is marked by two skulls indicating an increased difficulty. Don't enter, continuing instead to the right.

Fight past two witches and you'll see a glowing entrance and a stronger witch nearby. Ignore this area for now and go downward to find a Shrine of Power. Rest here, then head right along the fencing and down some steps. There are several enemies along this path that eventually leads to a weapon on the ground- a crossbow upgrade. Swap this with your current crossbow and break the nearby barrels to reveal a Fragment of Luce (9/10, 14/100).

Make your way back to the glowing entrance above the Shrine of Power. Carefully kill the stronger witch (after which you may be attacked by shadow enemies) and enter the Place with No Name. Whatever you do, do not approach the closed gate on the left or you will be instantly killed. Instead, interact with the statue holding a bowl to place the apple given by the hanging NPC earlier.

External image

You can then safely open the gate to and continue left and down some steps where you will have an option to "Kneel.". Doing so will cause an NPC to appear. Talk to him and exhaust his dialogue, then make your way around to him and attack him. Kite him around and use normal, hard combo attacks (are you noticing the trend?), being careful to keep distance so he can't attack you. It took me several combos to kill him and after you manage to do so, an achievement will unlock:

The Emperor-Over-the-Sea in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Kill the King
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

He may very well one-shot you but the Shrine of Power is close by so just run back and try again. If this proves to be too troublesome, you could try to come back later with a stronger weapon but I can't guarantee that the King will still be here (although he should). After killing him, Luce's Sword and Shield will appear on the ground by the tomb. I chose to swap the crossbow for Luce's Sword/Shield, giving me a slow and fast melee weapon, but you may prefer the ranged ability of the crossbow.

Before leaving, break a crate along the top wall to find a Fragment of Luce (10/10, 15/100). Then head outside and continue to the right. Follow the path around the corner and kill the three nearby enemies. Head into the building on the left, kill the enemies that immediately attack you, and interact with a book on the first bench (Book II, 4/7). Exit and head upward where you'll encounter three more enemies at the end of the path- a normal knight, an archer, and a strong knight with a giant mace. After killing them, pull the lever on the wall to open the gate marked with three skulls. Then backtrack slightly and enter the building on the right. You'll immediately be attacked when you entering and after killing the two enemies, approach the nearby pedestal for an Amulet of Shadows upgrade.

From here, the goal is to backtrack pretty far through the city to the first of three gates (the one with a single skull above it). Start by resting at the nearby Shrine of Power, then head left, down through the foggy alley, and left through the area with skewered corpses. Cross a bridge to rest at a Shrine of Power, then continue left to get to the gate guarded by a gold knight.

External image

Go through this gate to reach an area called the Forest of Separation.

The Forest of Separation

External image

This area is massive and confusing. If you ever needed an in-game map of some sort, it would be for the forest. I'll do my best to guide you through it fully with a lot of images for clarity.

Start by following the linear path past a few tougher enemies. Bait them towards you and a single normal, hard combo will kill them. Cross a bridge and take out a large knight with a hammer, then cross another bridge to find a Shrine of Power. Rest, then head left to a ground hint that gives a vague direction to the Water Dungeon. Take the lower path to the left, kill an enemy, and continue heading left. Stay on the lower/left path and you'll curve upward and have to fight an enemy, then continue to the left and fight another enemy. Keep going left and you'll be attacked by shadow enemies, then you'll see a large skeleton and some spider webbing that you can burn with your torch.

External image

If you go downward and right from here you'll encounter a stronger sickle enemy and find a chest with a useless Dagger. Backtrack to the large skeleton and take the lower left path to reach a glowing shrine guarded by a red knight with a flaming sword. Handle him as usual with range and normal, hard combos, then interact with the Shrine of Courage (1/4) and you'll be taken to an ethereal area. Go to the right and interact with an NPC, after which you'll return to the Forest with a notification that an Echo from the Other Side has been unlocked. Press cn_Y to open your inventory and see that part of the microchip image in the upper left has been filled in by finding the first Shrine of Courage. You'll need to find all four eventually.

Follow the path to the left and you'll see a pillar with a torch. Head upward/left and circle around to a path that goes downward/left and eventually leads to a wooden bridge. Go across, then left to find a campsite with an NPC- the Hunter.

External image

Exhaust his dialogue (you'll have to come back after killing all three giants to talk to him again), then break the nearby crate to collect a Fragment of Luce (1/10, 16/100). There are several enemies nearby so be careful. Head left from the Hunter's camp and follow the path downward and it will curve to the left. You'll see a torch along the top of the path and to the left of it out in the open is a Fragment of Luce (2/10, 17/100).

External image
Continue downward/left and cross a bridge, following the linear path down a slope and past some knights to reach a Shrine of Power. Rest, then go to the left side of this area. Kill a large knight, then find a Fragment of Luce (3/10, 18/100) at the bottom of the area out in the open.

Backtrack (linear path to the right) towards the main area of the forest. You'll cross a wooden bridge, then go through an open area and the path will lead up through some trees. When it forks, go left and you'll eventually see another large skeleton and a bonfire.

External image
Go left here and there will be a small camp beyond some hanging skulls. Kill the two enemies, then break the barrel on the left in front of a tent to find a Fragment of Luce (4/10, 19/100).

Continue along the path and it will fork again, so take the right fork. The path will curve upwards and fork again; again, go right. You'll see a wooden structure that leads into a large area with a bunch of enemies.

External image
This is where Aether will be taken if shadow enemies abduct her. There are multiple platforms with archers and numerous normal enemies around the area on ground level. Quickly climb up the ladder of the first tower to the right and kill the archer (be careful to avoid the spiky wooden structures as they will kill you instantly if you touch them), then climb down and go right along the lower part of the area to the second tower, climb up, and kill that archer. You'll see a third archer tower above you so head to it and kill the third archer. Drop down and take out any normal enemies you may have stirred up, then continue to the top of the area and climb a ladder to take out the last archer on a larger wooden structure. Kill the strong sickle enemy up here if you want, then drop down and kill the remaining enemies on ground level. Break a crate on the left side of the area to reveal a Fragment of Luce (5/10, 20/100). Exit this area on the right side and continue to the right to find a Shrine of Power. Rest.

Go up and to the right and you'll encounter a strong enemy with a sickle. After killing him, continue right and you'll see a stone path at the top of the screen. Follow it upward to find a runic circle that you can activate by stepping on it. Go back down the stone path and continue downward, following the path downward/right until you see a ledge on the right side of the path.

External image
You'll be coming back here shortly, but for now head left/downward and you'll see a fragment in an area on the left. Circle around the bottom of this area, kill the sickle enemy and collect the Fragment of Luce (6/10, 21/100).

Head back to the ledge and drop off to the area below. Aether will not follow you and should get abducted by shadow enemies before you can get back to her, which isn't a problem. Follow the path to the right and drop down to a lower level where you'll encounter a strong enemy. Use your range and normal/hard combo to take him out, then head to the right and drop down once more to find a weapon.

External image
This is a Bastard Sword +, so swap it for your current Bastard Sword, then walk into the nearby ring of lights to be teleported to the runic circle.

Assuming Aether was abducted (you'd hear her scream and get a notification), follow the stone path downward and head left when the path forks. Continue past the pillar with a torch and take a downward/left angle to get back to the area with platforms and archers. Make your way to the top of the area and climb onto the larger platform, killing any necessary enemies. Take out a strong sickle enemy guarding the switch that you can use to free Aether from the jail cage.

External image
Then drop down, kill any hostile enemies, and exit the area on the right side again. Rest at the Shrine of Power if needed, then head across the wooden bridge upward/left of the shrine. Go left after crossing and hug the wall until you can take a left turn down a path. Stay near the top of this path as you continue left and you'll soon see a Shrine of Power.
External image
Rest here, then head downward and kill an enemy before following the first path to the left. Keep going directly left and you'll encounter an archer enemy. Continue heading left and you'll see a large, circular blue structure. You'll also see a fragment just above it, so go to it and collect the Fragment of Luce (7/10, 22/100).
External image

This giant shrine serves a very important purpose. There are three in the game, each of which is found in an area near where you will obtain an elemental shard. This shrine is connected to the Water Shard found in the nearby Water Dungeon. After obtaining the shard, you are teleported to this shrine and you have a limited time to carry Aether to a sunray, which is located somewhat close by. If you fail to get Aether there in time or if she is attacked by an enemy, you will lose your chance at the good or normal endings. YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE AT THESE THREE SEQUENCES AND FAILURE LOCKS YOU INTO THE BAD ENDING! It is crucial, then, to know the path you need to take and where enemies appear so that you can get Aether where she needs to go without issue because if you make a mistake, you are locked out of the good/normal endings and would need to start a new playthrough for another chance at them.

We will do some more exploration before I bring you back to the shrine to show the exact path to the sunray. Head downward and when the path forks, go left. Continue downward until you reach a Shrine of Power.

External image
Rest, then head back up and follow the path to the right. Go downward when you can until you reach a large spider web that you can burn away with the torch. Do so, then kill an enemy and continue downward/left along the path. When the path forks, go right and you'll see a Fragment of Luce (8/10, 23/100) in some bushes on the right side. Go back to the left and follow the linear path to the end (ignore a fork to the right) to find the sunray I mentioned earlier.
External image

Backtrack to the spider webbing, then follow the path up and around to the left, then downward to the Shrine of Power and rest. Head straight up, then when the path forks, go directly to the right. The path will veer upward but continue along to the right and you should see the second giant in the distance.

External image
These guys are tough. They hit like a truck and will kill you quickly. The best strategy I found is to bait them into your hard attack, then roll away as soon as you can.

You'll have to work out timing and distance and I suggest swapping weapons so you can move faster when you're waiting for stamina to regen. Kite him around and repeat this process until he dies, then collect the 10 Fragments of Luce that he drops (33/100). Note that there is a Bastard Sword upgrade in the Water Dungeon so you can always come back for this guy later when you are a little stronger, but I'm not sure that a little extra damage will mater- it's all about technique and timing.

From here, go upward/right to get back to a Shrine of Power and rest. Head downward and follow the path to the left, then go upward until you see a black knight patrolling. Remember that these guys can one hit you so use your range and normal/hard combo to kill them without issue. Along the top of this area is a large structure with two big statues in front and an opening with a tree in the middle. Break the pot on the left side of the left statue to find a Fragment of Luce (9/10, 34/100).

External image
Continue left and kill another black knight, then follow the path downward/left and it will curve to the right and bring you back to the giant shrine. Head downward from the shrine and take the downward/left fork. At the next fork, go right and continue downward until you reach the Shrine of Power. Rest. Before heading to the Water Dungeon, you want to practice the run from the shrine to the sunray. This sequence covers the most distance of the three sunray sequences and you'll have to set Aether down twice to fight two enemies along the way. I suggest running from the shrine to the spider webbing a few times so you know the exact path to take (it's linear from that point). Once you're comfortable with this, go back to the nearby Shrine of Power and rest.

Head upward and take the left path when you can. Continue heading left and you'll eventually be engaged by a knight. The path will turn upward and there will be a second knight and a new enemy- a frost sorcerer. This enemy will create circles of frost on the ground that cause burst damage within the marked area a few seconds later, so when you see these circles appear, move off of them to avoid damage. These frost bursts can damage other enemies (even the frost sorcerer himself). Kill him, then continue upward to enter the Water Dungeon.

External image

Water Dungeon

As soon as you enter, smash jars on the right to find a Fragment of Luce (1/5, 35/100). Then head downward to encounter a shielded knight and then two assassins. Head right at the four-way split, take out the knight with the big mace, and flip a switch on the right wall. Then go back and take the downward path. Kill a halberd knight and a frost sorcerer and follow the linear path around until you see a grey plate on the ground. Inch forward and a gate will slam down behind you, locking you in. There are two giant knights in the room ahead, and if you stay on the left side of the path and inch downward, you can aggro the one on the left by himself. He will do two attacks- an overhead slash and a spinning slash. I don't have a good strategy for these guys since they don't seem to walk into your attacks like other enemies do, so try to avoid their attacks and get close to use your hard attack (two hard attacks should kill them). Once the first is dead, move down, kill the second, the continue downward and you'll see a grey path going left.

External image
Take it to find an Amulet of Shadows upgrade. Continue downward along the main path, kill a knight, and you'll see another grey path on the right. Take it and as soon as you get into the new area, go downward to reveal a secret path that leads to a Shrine of Wisdom (2/5). Interact with it to increase Aether's power, then go back up to find a black knight guarding a chest on the right. Carefully kill him, then open the chest and swap to the Bastard Sword ++ before heading back to the main path and continuing downward.

The path will turn left and lead to a room with a strong shielded knight and two normal knights.

External image
Inch forward to aggro the shielded knight and kill him (as always) by leading him into a normal/hard attack combo, then backing away and repeating. Kill the normal knights one at a time and open the chest in this room that contains a Warhammer (feel free to try it out if you want, I stick with the Bastard Sword). If you approach the top wall, you'll get a prompt to climb; do so to pull a switch, then drop down and backtrack to the four-way split.

Head left and you'll reach an area with a knight and a frost sorcerer. Kill them and then interact with a grey pillar, then break a jar on the left for a Fragment of Luce (2/5, 36/100).

External image
Take the downward path from here and kill two halberd knights, after which the path will split. You'll see a shielded knight on the left path; kill him, but then go downward further. Be careful as a black knight will charge you. After killing him, follow the path to the end to interact with a second pillar, then go back to the path leading left.

Kill a halberd knight and when you reach a central column, shadow enemies will appear. Quickly kill them because if they abduct Aether, you'll have to go all the way to the Forest to retrieve her. Continue left and kill another knight and frost sorcerer, then follow the path downward and you'll be engaged by a knight with a giant hammer. After killing him, continue downward and you'll be attacked by two assassins. Interact with the book on the right side of the next room (Book VI, 5/7), then continue downward and take out a strong shielded knight. The room at the end has three pillars on either side that you can pull. Pull the center pillar on the left side and the bottom pillar on the right to trigger a cutscene, then backtrack (up, right, then up) until you get back to the main path where you can head left.

Kill a halberd knight as you continue left and when the path splits, go downward to find a Fragment of Luce (3/5, 37/100). Continue left (the upward path leads to a Halberd ++) and you'll have to kill three frost sorcerers. Break a jar on the top right side for a Fragment of Luce (4/5, 38/100), then break jar on the bottom left side for another Fragment of Luce (5/5, 39/100).

Head left from here to enter the Guardian of the Water Shard area.

External image
Moving forward, be sure to activate the runic circle to create a shortcut back here. Should you die, you can run from the Shrine of Power back to the front of the Water Dungeon (where the first frost sorcerer is) and use the circle of rocks to teleport to the runic circle. Just be sure to reactivate the runic circle each time you have to use it.

For whatever reason, the enemies in this area were not hostile to me and I could approach and kill them without resistance. There are two halberd knights and a black knight and after the grey plate on the ground, a gate closes behind you. The path splits four ways and shadow enemies will appear, so kill them, then go left and then right to kill the giant knight on each side to open the way forward. Continue along the upward path to reach an area that contains the Guardian of the Water Shard.

I found the best strategy was to try to circle around him and use hard attacks when you can. There's not a lot to this other than avoiding his attacks and attacking when it's safe to do so. After you kill him, an achievement will unlock:

The Road Through the Forest in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Kill the Guardian of the Water Shard
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

You can then proceed upward so that Aether can absorb the Water Shard, after which the sequence to reach the sunray will begin.

Again, it is very important that you not fail this sequence or you will be forced onto the path to the bad ending, so I hope you know exactly where to go and what to do. Puck Aether up with cn_X (keep it held to carry her, let it go to put her down) and run downward to the swirling lights to be teleported to the forest shrine. Pick her up again and head downward, staying close to the right wall as to not aggro an enemy on the left. Set her down by the wooden pole and run forward to kill an enemy, then pick her up and continue downward. Take the left fork, continue downward, and then take the right fork and continue downward until you see the spider webs. Set her down again and move forward to kill another enemy, then pick her up and run downward and left until you reach the circle with the sunray. Set her down inside and she will absorb the beam of light for several seconds, after which the sequence will be complete and an achievement will unlock:

Praise the Sun in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Consume one sunray
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

Phew.

Backtrack into the forest. Pass through the spiderwebs and continue following the path up and around to the left, then downward to get to the Shrine of Power. Rest here, then make your way upwards. When you reach the large shrine, continue heading up along the path to the left of it. You want to get back to the large structure at the top of the area that has two statues in front as well as a few black knights. There will be a newly accessible room on the left side of the structure indicated by a glowing orange light.

External image
Go inside and break some jars on the left side to find a Fragment of Luce (10/10, 40/100), then continue forward and into an open room. There is a new type of enemy in the back- a golem with spears- and two enemies at the front of either side obscured by the walls. Inch forward to aggro the golem, then lead him back and use your normal/hard combo to kill him. Then kill the two bandits and approach the pedestal in the back for an Amulet of Shadows upgrade. The weapon on the right side is a Large Shield that should be of no use to you.

At this point you should have 40 Fragments of Luce, having found all 5 in the starting area, 10 in the City, 10 in the Forest, and 5 in the Water Dungeon (plus 10 from the second giant). The goal now is to make your way to the far right/bottom area of the Forest to exit back to the City (be sure to rest at any Shrines of Power you see along the way). The Forest is massive with numerous winding paths, but you've been through basically the whole thing by now and as long as you keep going to the right and down, you should find your way to the exit that leads back to the City. You're almost there when you see the Shrine of Power near a wooden bridge.

External image

Once you get back to the City, hold cn_X to grab Aether and run to the right as you'll spawn in right next to a strong shielded knight. Follow the path to the right past two witches to reach a Shrine of Power and rest. Then continue right through the area full of skewered corpses and then up through the mist-filled alley. Continue straight up and into the gate at the top to enter a desert area called The Dying Land.

The Dying Land

External image

This open desert area is not nearly as large or confusing as the Forest. Start by heading up and through a stone arch and you'll encounter a new bandit enemy. These guys will do a stationary spinning attack that ends with a short lunge, so you want to figure out the timing and distance to hit them with the normal/hard combo after their spin attack ends. Go up/left to find a Shrine of Power and rest. Head left and over a hill to find a pedestal with an Amulet of Shadows upgrade, then go back over the hill to the right and circle down and back to the left around the bottom of the area with the pedestal. Directly left of here you will find three pillars with flames and a central dragon pillar that you can interact with.

External image

Push the dragon pillar six times (twice more after it faces straight up), then collect the Fragment of Luce (1/10, 41/100) next to the large rock just up/left from the pillars. Head up/left and you'll see some rocks with a burning torch to the left of them- go left at this torch, kill a bandit, then collect the Fragment of Luce (2/10, 42/100) on the left side of the large grey boulders nearby. You'll see a ground hint to the left that gives a clue to solving the dragon pillars puzzle and a strong shielded enemy up/right from there. Kill him, then head up to find a Shrine of Power and rest. Kill the two bandits near the small building to the right, then break a barrel to find a Fragment of Luce (3/10, 43/100). Go to the right and when you see a small hill follow down along it to reach an area with another dragon pillar.

External image

Push it four times (once more after it faces straight down) and a brief cutscene will play out opening a path that was blocked previously. Head all the way left, then down, ignoring the blue-lit exit for now. You'll eventually come to a ground hint in front of a path leading left, so take the path and as soon as the area opens up, take out the archer that will shoot you from the bottom. You'll then notice a glowing shrine guarded by a knight with a flaming sword. Kill him via the usual means, then interact with the Shrine of Courage (2/4) and you'll be teleported to an ethereal area. Interact with the red hospital bed on the right side and you'll return to the desert with a notification that an Echo from the Other Side has been unlocked. Press cn_Y to open your inventory and see that more of the microchip image in the upper left has been filled in by finding the second Shrine of Courage.

Head straight down from the shrine and kill two bandits, then collect a Fragment of Luce (4/10, 44/100). There is another archer to the left as well as a Shrine of Power, but don't rest here unless you're in a bad way as the nearby enemies will all respawn. Take the upper path to the right of the shrine and kill the strong red enemy, then cross a bridge and interact with the Shrine of Wisdom (3/5) to increase Aether's power. Backtrack to the main desert area and go upward to the Shrine of Power. Rest here, then take note of the symbol on the ground in front of the building to the right. This is the second of three secret areas towards the Down the Rabbit Hole achievement and can only be accessed once you get the Electric Shard but remember- this achievement doesn't seem to unlock in normal mode. Keep going right until you hit a see a small hill, then head upward. Kill a couple of bandits and look for the large blue stones sticking up from the ground. Climb onto one to collect a Fragment of Luce (5/10, 45/100).

Head into the building on the right and talk to the blacksmith.

External image
Exhaust his dialogue and he will tell you that you don't have enough fragments. Once you find the last five in this area for a total of 50 he will give you an amazing weapon. For now, break the barrel to his right to collect a Fragment of Luce (6/10, 46/100), then interact with the wheel on the blue wall further to the right to open the adjacent door. Go through and rest at the Shrine of Power.

There's a strong enemy just to the right, so kill him and continue right and kill a bandit. Break a jar just at the corner of the building just below to find a Fragment of Luce (7/10, 47/100). Make your downward and stay along the left side, killing enemies as you go. After you pass through a stone archway, keep sticking to the left as you work your way downward and you'll see some wooden boards along the left wall and a weapon under a small blue tarp. Break several jars just past this to find a Fragment of Luce (8/10, 48/100). Go down/right from here and break a wooden crate to find another Fragment of Luce (9/10, 49/100). Go back up along the right wall until you see a circular structure on the ground. Climb the ladder on the right to get to a Fragment of Luce (10/10, 50/100). Head back upward and after going through the stone arch and note a path to the right that leads to a circle of stones. Continue upward/left and rest at the Shrine of Power, and go left and talk to the blacksmith and since you have 50 Fragments, he will create the Giant Sword for you.

External image

Swap this for your Bastard Sword ++ as I believe it to be the strongest weapon in the game. The moveset is slightly different- the normal attack is an arc and the hard attack is an overhead slash, but the normal, hard combo still works and is devastating. The hard attack alone will one-shot most enemies. Go right and try it out on the shielded enemy just past the Shrine of Power to see how much harder it hits- you can kill him with a single normal, hard combo. Continue right and head upward when you can. Fight past a strong red knight and you'll come to an area with dragon statues and three golden urns. Swap to the lantern and use it on each of the urns as quickly as you can to open the way forward. Then proceed into the Fire Dungeon.

Fire Dungeon

External image

As soon as you enter, swap to a light weapon so you can move more quickly. Press cn_X so Aether stays where she is and run to the left. Sentries will shoot tracking projectiles at you that you need to roll to avoid. Once you get to the other side, hold cn_X to call Aether and wait for her to run to you. Follow the path down, then interact with a pillar to the left of the base of the steps. Go up the steps and kill the knight, then kill a second and go down the steps ahead to interact with a second pillar at the bottom which will deactivate the projectile sentries. Then head back up the steps and continue left up another set of steps. Kill a shielded knight and continue left until you reach a room with two pillars.

External image

Notice the blood around them- these are traps that will swing around and kill you if you get close, so keep your distance. Let the bandit come to you and kill him, then go left until you reach a knight with a large hammer. Kill him and collect the Fragment of Luce he was guarding (1/5, 51/100), then backtrack slightly and head upward and down some steps. Take a path going right and kill a bandit, then notice the blood around a pillar with a switch in the next room. Ignore this as pulling this lever triggers a trap that kills you. Interact instead with the lever on the wall to the right of this pillar to open a nearby door. Enter this room and kill the two bandits, then break a barrel in the upper left corner to reveal a Fragment of Luce (2/5, 52/100). Go down/right and through an arch. Kill the knight with the large hammer and approach the nearby pedestal for an Amulet of Shadows upgrade.

Backtrack to the room with the trapped lever and head upward and down some steps. Kill the shielded enemy on the left, then go right and kill a bandit and you'll see a Shrine of Wisdom (4/5). Interact with it to increase Aether's power, then go all the way right and break some wooden crates in the top right corner to reveal a Fragment of Luce (3/5, 53/100). Backtrack to the left, then down through the room with the trapped lever. Go left from here, then upward down some steps under an arch. Kill a gold knight and continue forward until you reach a room where you can see two bandits, one on either side. Kill them, then break a barrel in the back left corner to reveal a Fragment of Luce (4/5, 54/100). Go right and down some steps and kill a shielded knight, then go into the gated area and kill a tough red knight. Interact with the pillar at the far right of this area to trigger a brief cutscene. Then backtrack.

After passing through the arch flanked by two fires, continue downward, up some steps, then down another set of steps. The path will turn right and you'll have to kill a couple of knights. Go up the steps on the right and kill another knight in a room with blood all over the floor. Go down a set of steps to the right and continue into a room with several benches. Interact with a book on the pedestal (Book VII, 6/7), then break a wooden crate below to find a Fragment of Luce (5/5, 55/100). Backtrack left, then down from the bloody room. Go down some steps and then take another set of downward steps just to the left. Kill two bandits at the bottom and continue forward until the path forks. The path to the right leads to a chest with the Bastard Sword +++, but the Giant Sword is stronger, so don't bother going that way. As you go left you'll see several square grey plates on the ground.

External image

Stepping on these plates causes fire to shoot out of the nearby pipes. You want to be very careful as this fire will kill you instantly, but it can be used to kill enemies, as well. Avoid the plates as you follow the path around and upward, letting the knight come to you so you can kill him safely. There is a sorcerer beyond the next set of plates and it can be tricky to avoid his projectiles while trying to not kill yourself with the fire traps, so I suggest running up towards him, then hitting the two plates as you run away and hopefully he will come at you and walk into one of the fire traps. Continue forward after he is dead and you'll see two knights in the back corners of the next area. Inch forward slowly and four shadow enemies will attempt to abduct Aether, so be prepared to protect her. Should they succeed, you'd need to run all the way out of the Fire Dungeon and down through the previous area to find her jail cage (which you can press cn_X to trace a path to once you get outside).

After dealing with the shadow enemies, kill the two knights and continue forward up a set of steps. Kill one last bandit and activate the runic portal to the left. Should you die to the Guardian of the Fire Shard, you can run from the Shrine of Power near the blacksmith to the circle of stones I pointed out earlier to travel directly here and not have to traverse the dungeon again (just remember to reactive the runic portal after using it).

You need Aether's help to open the nearby door. Hold cn_X to take her hand and bring her to one of the levers beside the door, then let go and press cn_X so she stays next to it. Interact with the other and Aether will pull hers, causing the door to open. Then continue through to reach the Guardian of the Fire Shard.

Honestly, the Giant Sword is so strong that this should be an absolute joke. I was able to kill him in three hits. After you kill him, an achievement will unlock:

Away to the South in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Kill the Guardian of the Fire Shard
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

You can then proceed upward so that Aether can absorb the Fire shard, after which the second sunray sequence will begin. This one is much easier and shorter than the one on the forest so I didn't even bother showing the path when we were in the desert.

Pick Aether up by holding cn_X, then run downward and into the swirling lights to be teleported to the desert shrine. Pick her up again and run right and up until you see a path leading through some trees. Take this path through a small wooden structure with a tan tarp, then follow the trees around and up to the left. When you see the red knight, set Aether down and run to him, killing him quickly. Then pick Aether up and continue up/left to get to the circle with the sunray. Set her down inside and she will absorb the beam of light for several seconds, after which the second sequence will be complete.

From here, make your way to the Shrine of Power in the upper left part of the area and rest. Then head left/down and into the blue-lit exit that leads to the Mountains of Solitude.

The Mountains of Solitude

External image

This is the area that leads to the Electricity Dungeon which is nothing like the Water and Fire Dungeons as it's just a single path past some swinging hazards. You'll still have to defeat a guardian, have Aether absorb the shard, and the run through a sunray sequence like you had to do twice before.

From the start, feel free to go upward into a pond and Aether will run into and frolic in a waterfall, but this is completely optional.

Head directly left from the entrance to encounter a new type of golem enemy that does projectile and melee attacks. Kill him and follow the lower wall to the left until you encounter another new golem enemy with a large axe. Kill him and continue following the lower wall until you reach a pedestal with an Amulet of Shadows upgrade. Head down from here and follow the wall (now on your right) and you'll find a set of steps leading down. Kill the golem that comes from the left and another with spears on the right, then head to the right and you'll see a cave entrance. Go in, activate a runic circle (I'm really not sure what shortcut this creates, though), then go back outside and continue to the right to find a Shrine of Power. Heading down here would lead you back to the City of Yersinia in the final area with a gate that had three skulls above it, but there's no need to go that way at all.

Head back to the left, kill the golems, and continue left without going up the steps. Go across a wooden bridge and then head downward where you'll see a bonfire and encounter a spear golem. Continue downward and through a wooden structure, following the linear path downward further until you see a square grey plate on the ground.

External image

Head down from here and a gate will close behind you. Go right and kill a giant knight, then collect a Fragment of Luce (1/15, 56/100) in a cage at the end of the path. The go to the left side of the area and kill another giant knight so that the gate opens and you can leave. Should Aether be abducted by shadow enemies, her jail cage is at the far left side of this area.

Backtrack upward until you reach the wooden bridge and continue further upward to reach a wooden entrance. Go in and kill a spear golem, then head up the steps. Kill a golem at the top, then collect a Fragment of Luce (2/15, 57/100) in plain sight. Find another Fragment of Luce (3/15, 58/100) by breaking a wooden crate on the right, then go down the steps and head down/right and back to another set of steps further right. If you need to heal, run further right to the Shrine of Power, then go back to the steps and from the top head straight upward. Kill some golems along the way and You'll eventually pass the pedestal with the Amulet of Shadows upgrade and see another set of steps. To the left will be a glowing shrine guarded by a knight with a flaming sword.

External image

Kill him (for me, it took one normal/hard combo), then interact with the Shrine of Courage (3/4) and you'll be teleported to an ethereal area. Work through this area and interact with the red hospital bed in the back. You'll then return to the mountains with a notification that an Echo from the Other Side has been unlocked. Press cn_Y to open your inventory and see that more of the microchip image in the upper left has been filled in by finding the third Shrine of Courage. Head left and kill a projectile golem, then continue to find a Shrine of Power and rest.

Enter a cave down/left from here and you'll be immediately attacked by two bandits. A single hard attack should kill them but be careful as the shielded one can one-shot you. After killing them, interact with the Shrine of Wisdom (5/5) to increase Aether's power and an achievement will unlock:

The Magician's Nephew in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Use all Shrines of Wisdom
  • Unlocked by 2 tracked gamers (1% - TA Ratio = 9.79) 192

Exit this cave and head right. Go up the set of steps and continue upward, fighting off the shadow enemies that appear. Kill some golems and continue upward until you reach a cave; enter and interact with a pedestal with a face on the right. This will light up the first of three lights around a door. Exit and follow the path downward until you can go left. Do so and you'll see another cave entrance, but go past it and across a long bridge (this cave contains the door with the three lights so we'll come back to it after finding the other two pillars with faces).

After crossing the long bridge, continue left and you'll see another cave entrance. There's literally nothing (that I could find, at least) in here so don't bother going inside. If you go straight down you'll find some steps that lead to the sunray for the next sequence. Go back up to the cave entrance and down the steps to the left. Kill some golems as you head upward along a path that leads to another cave entrance. Once inside, climb some ladders to get to a platform with the next face pliiar and interact with it to light up the second light. Exit the cave and backtrack down to the steps, then head left and you'll come to the giant blue shrine for the area. For the third and final sunray sequence, you'll have to go right to the steps, then pretty much straight down to the sunray. I'll explain in detail later.

Go straight down from the giant shrine, kill some golems, and follow the ledge to the left. You'll eventually get to a Shrine of Power, so rest here.

External image

Be careful, though, as the third giant hangs out not too far from the shrine and you may stir him up without even trying. I was able to kill him with a single hard attack, but that likely was a trigger from the Vorpal effect on the Giant Sword. You want to handle him like the one in the forest by baiting him into a hard attack at full range, then immediately rolling away and kiting him around until your stamina regens so you can repeat. Once he is dead, collect the 10 Fragments of Luce that he drops (68/100). Rest at the Shrine of Power if needed.

Go straight up from the shrine to find a campsite and break the barrels on the left side to find a Fragment of Luce (4/15, 69/100). Head slightly right, then up to find another bridge heading left. Cross it, killing a golem along the way, then kill another golem on the other side. Go downward and follow the ledge around to the left and you'll find a Fragment of Luce (5/15, 70/100). Then go upward and enter another cave.

You'll be attacked immediately by bandits as soon as you enter, so be prepared. There's a bonfire down/right from the entrance. Interact with it so Aether stays put, then go upward and drop off the right side to a wooden bridge. Climb up the other side and kill the bandit that is waiting for you, then go downward and pull a switch to open a door so that Aether can rejoin you (press cn_X to call her to you). Break the wooden crates on the right to reveal a Fragment of Luce (6/15, 71/100).

Go straight upward and then down some steps and you'll be attacked by two bandits. Hide behind the wooden structure to lead a new sorcerer enemy to you for an easier kill, then climb a nearby ladder to reach a Fragment of Luce (7/15, 72/100). You can climb a nearby ladder to reach a platform with a Crossbow +++, but this may not necessarily be better than your current crossbow (if you even still have one) as it uses a huge amount of stamina per shot. Climb down and go up the steps down/right from the ladder to encounter another bandit and sorcerer guarding the third pillar with a face.

External image

Interact with it to light up the third light and open the door to the Electricity Dungeon. Continue along the downward path and go out onto a wooden platform with a visible wooden platform below, then drop down to it. Look left to see a fragment out on a precarious ledge. I won't lie: this can be annoying as it's very easy to fall and die here, especially since the ledge is obscured briefly by a pillar in the foreground. Carefully inch along the precarious ledge to collect a Fragment of Luce (8/15, 73/100), then continue across and climb up the ladder back to safety. If you die, you'll have to run all the way back :(

Continue left and up some steps, killing some bandits as you follow the path. You'll see a Fragment of Luce (9/15, 74/100) out in the open, so collect it and then continue following the path to the left, then around and upward and you'll eventually fight through bandits and get back to the start of the cave. Exit, then head right and across the bridge. Once you reach the other side, go downward and slightly left to get to the Shrine of Power to rest.

Head up/right from here to get to the giant blue shrine. For the sunray sequence, you'll want to leave Aether in the shrine and run directly right to find and kill the spear golem, then go back and pick up Aether and run right and slightly upward to the steps. Leave Aether on the steps and move downward to kill a golem, then pick her up and run downward and slightly right to avoid stirring up a projectile golem on the left. You'll eventually reach the stairs that lead to the circle with the sunray. With that figured out, head across the stone bridge on the right and into the cave entrance.

You'll be charged by a bandit as soon as you enter, so be prepared. Kill a second bandit in the area below the entrance steps, then head upward and follow the path around to the left. Kill a few more bandits as you follow the linear path and you'll eventually see a ladder on the left that leads up to a platform with a barrel. Smash the barrel for a Fragment of Luce (10/15, 75/100), then climb down and continue down/right along the path. Kill some more bandits as you continue along and you'll come to an upward slope. Continue along the path and ignore the wooden bridge on the right as you continue upward, killing more bandits as you go. Kill one last bandit and sorcerer to reach the open door to the area with the Guardian of the Electricity Shard.

External image

Kill a golem as you head upward, then rest at the Shrine of Power. Kill the golem beyond the wooden structure on the right, then head into the area with a ring of stones, a bonfire, and a lift. Leave Aether at the bonfire and go up the lift (pull the lever inside it). Kill a golem to the right, then drop down to a wooden beam with a Fragment of Luce (11/15, 76/100). Drop down, step on the square grey plate to call the lift, and take the lift back up. Go left and kill two golems, then interact with a book at the end of the path (Book V, 7/7) and an achievement will unlock:

But that is another story and shall be told in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Read all books
  • Unlocked by 2 tracked gamers (1% - TA Ratio = 9.79) 192

Aether will be abducted by shadow enemies at some point, but don't worry about it for now. Head back to the right, past the lift, and take a ladder down to a lower platform. Break the wooden crate on the left for a Fragment of Luce (12/15, 77/100), then continue right. Kill an annoying projectile golem on the path and climb up a ladder, then continue to the right. Go past the lift to break a barrel for a Fragment of Luce (13/15, 78/100), then take the lift up. Head left and kill the golem in the central area, but continue left and kill another golem. Break a jar along the wall to reveal a Fragment of Luce (14/15, 79/100), then pull the lever on the wall to extend a bridge below (the nearby chest contains a Tower Shield but I'm not sure how this compares to Luce's Shield. which you may or may not have anyway). Run up in the central area to activate the runic circle, then take the previous lift down and head left, crossing the newly extended bridge to get a Fragment of Luce (15/15, 80/100). Then continue left and take the other lift back to the bottom. Go downward and left of the Shrine of Power to find Aether's jail cell and pull the lever to release her, then rest at the Shrine. Kill the golem by the wooden structure and walk into the swirling lights to be taken to the runic circle. Activate it again and head upward and into the Electricity Dungeon.

Electricity Dungeon

External image

This dungeon is just a short path past some hazards. Hold Aether by the hand as you carefully move past the series of swinging blades and then make your way upward to trigger the battle with the Guardian of the Electricity Shard.

Again, since the Giant Sword is so strong, he should die in a few hits so there's not really any strategy to discuss. After you kill him, an achievement will unlock:

The Home under the ground in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Kill the Guardian of the Electricity Shard
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

You can then proceed upward so that Aether can absorb the Electricity shard, after which an achievement will unlock:

The Doors of Perception in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Collect all Elemental Shards
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

The third and final sunray sequence will then begin. This one is also much easier and shorter than the one on the forest but you'll have to engage two enemies on the way.

Pick Aether up and run downward and into the swirling lights to be teleported to the mountain shrine. As I explained earlier, leave Aether in the shrine and run directly right to find and kill the spear golem, then go back and pick up Aether and run right and slightly upward to the steps. Leave Aether on the steps and move downward to kill a golem, go back and pick her up, and then run downward and slightly right to avoid stirring up a projectile golem on the left. You'll eventually reach the stairs that lead to the circle with the sunray. Set her down inside and she will absorb the beam of light for several seconds, after which the third sequence will be complete.

Phew.

Head upward, then right and across a long bridge. Continue to the right until you reach a ledge with a tree and some grass below, then go down/left and down some steps. Go straight down from here and go down some steps, then head right past a cave entrance to a Shrine of Power to rest. Go back to the left and continue past the steps, then cross a wooden bridge. Head up/left until you can go directly left, then continue until the path slopes downward.

External image

Continue along the linear path and exit into the next area.

The Swamp of Desolation

External image

You'll begin on a wooden path in the Swamp of Desolation. Take care as you can walk off the wooden path and into the swamp at any point but there are only certain ramps out of the swamp and back onto the wooden path. You will take damage over time while you're in the swamp, so make it a point to get out quickly if need be. Also, note that Aether does not seem to keep up very well so you'll have to constantly press/hold cn_X to call her to you.

Follow the path to the left and downward and you'll be approached by a lizard warrior. Kill him and continue downward. Pass a left branch and take a right turn, then follow this linear branch to a Shrine of Power. Backtrack to the main path and continue down/left. From a short left branch, you can walk across a short stretch of swamp onto an island to the left and break a wooden crate for a Fragment of Luce (1/10, 81/100). Then run back and continue forward along the wooden path. After turning right, the path will fork down or right- continue to the right. Continue past a treasure chest with a useless Mace++ and the path will turn downward and lead onto a blue island where you'll be attacked by a lizard warrior and a lizard sorcerer. Continue forward and you'll see a structure on the right with a lizard warrior and a weapon- a Warhammer ++ (don't bother). Keep heading down the wooden path and you'll see a Fragment of Luce (2/10, 82/200) in plain sight. Continuing on, the path forks again- the downward branch leads to an exit to the Forest so continue to the right. Kill another lizard warrior, then take the upward branch to kill two lizard warriors and break a wooden chest with a Fragment of Luce (3/10, 83/100).

Backtrack and continue right and after the path turns upward, you'll see a Fragment of Luce (4/10, 84/100) on a dead end path to the right. Continue taking the path upward and you'll see a glowing shrine guarded by a knight with a flaming sword.

External image

Kill him, then interact with the Shrine of Courage (4/4) and you'll be teleported to an ethereal area. Work through this area and interact with the red hospital bed in the back. You'll then return to the swamp with a notification that an Echo from the Other Side has been unlocked and an achievement will unlock:

White Tulip in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
White Tulip392 (40)
Collect all Echoes from the Other Side
  • Unlocked by 2 tracked gamers (1% - TA Ratio = 9.79) 192

Open your inventory with cn_Y to see that the microchip symbol in the upper left is fully lit up, which is the second requirement for reaching the good ending (the other being that we didn't fail in bringing Aether to the sunrays during the three sunray sequences).

Continue upward along the path to reach an island with a glowing symbol. As you get close, Aether will run to the symbol and open the way to the nearby structure, which is one of the three secret areas required for the Down the Rabbit Hole achievement. The other two are in the City Church and the Desert, but this achievement would not unlock for me in normal mode. I'll walk you through getting it completed in the Nightmare playthrough.

Break the jar on the left side of the wooden structure to find a Fragment of Luce (5/10, 85/100). Press cn_X to tell Aether to stay put and go into the swamp behind the wooden structure. Run straight upward into the swamp to find a Fragment of Luce (6/10, 86/100), then quickly run back to solid ground. From here, backtrack pretty far along the wooden path. Ignore a downward fork and continue left, then the path turns upward. Cross over a small island and the path turns left, going past a chest. You then want to take a downward fork.

Follow the path forward and ignore the left branch for now, instead continuing downward. Follow this linear path past several lizard warriors until you see a Shrine of Power. Collect the Fragment of Luce (7/10, 87/100) on the left path, then break the wooden crate at the end of the upward path for another Fragment of Luce (8/10, 88/100). Rest at the Shrine of Power, then backtrack and take the left path you skipped previously.

As you progress left you'll see an upward branch that leads to the jail cage where Aether would be taken if she was abducted by shadow enemies. Continue left and onto solid ground and read the ground hint.

External image

As you move forward you'll be attacked by a new type of knight. Kill him, then collect the visible Fragment of Luce (9/10, 89/100). Head left and down some steps and you'll see a chest in the middle of a circular area. This is a trap so stay as far away from the chest as you can by hugging the upper wall as you continue to the left. Collect a Fragment of Luce (10/10, 90/100) at the top of some steps, which is the final randomly found fragment as the remaining 10 are dropped by the giant in the cage in front of the City of Yersinia.

There's nothing left here that is required. You can continue forward to eventually find a Flaming Sword that is weaker than the Giant sword if you want, otherwise just backtrack to the exit back to the mountains.

External image

There are a few things you need to do before fighting the final boss.

Upon exiting the Swamp, go up the sloping path and head steadily to the right all the way until you get to a Shrine of Power. Rest, then continue downward and back into the City of Yersinia. Kill the three enemies nearby and backtrack all the way through the city- down and around to the left, then down through the foggy alleyway and into the area with skewered corpses. Continue downward and open a gate (note: to the right of here is the Shrine of Power before the final boss), then continue downward and up some steps. Continue heading downward and exit the city. Once outside, go all the way left, rest at the Shrine of Power, and clear out the normal enemies before flipping the switch to free the giant. Kill him to unlock an achievement:

Attack to the giant's country in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Kill all Giants
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

Collect the 10 Fragments of Luce he drops to unlock another achievement:

The Pool of Tears in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Collect all Fragments of Luce
  • Unlocked by 2 tracked gamers (1% - TA Ratio = 9.79) 192

Head back into the city and go straight upward until you reach the gate you had opened on your way to the giant. Continue upward into the area with the skewered corpses and head left. Rest at the Shrine of Power, then continue left and take the exit to the Forest. You need to talk to the Hunter again now that the giants have been killed for his final dialogue.

Follow the linear path to the left and up to reach a Shrine of Power and rest. To get to the Hunter:

Head directly left from the Shrine of Power and you'll see some crisscrossed wooden planks on the ground. Stand on them and continue directly to the left and you'll eventually come to a large skeleton and some spider webs.

External image

Head down/left, then when you see the broken Shrine of Courage, head directly downward, then go left through a wooden frame.

External image

Take an up/left slant and you'll see a wooden bridge. Continue left without crossing it and you'll see the Hunter's camp. Talk to the Hunter, exhausting his dialogue, and an achievement will unlock:

A Mad Tea-Party in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Talk with all NPCs
  • Unlocked by 2 tracked gamers (1% - TA Ratio = 9.79) 192

Retrace your steps and take the exit to the City, then head right to the Shrine of Power and rest. Head right, then down through the area with skewered corpses through the open gate, then go right until you reach a Shrine of Power and rest. Aether will move to the three symbols on the ground and open the path to the final boss.

Upon entering this new area you'll see a ground hint that tells you not to progress unless you're certain that you're ready.

External image

Interact with a horn to open a gate blocking the forward path and kill three knights with flaming swords to dispel the barriers preventing you from reaching the final area. If you had left the ghastly King NPC alive way back in the City of Yersinia, he would have killed two of the knights after ringing the horn.

The final boss is a three phase battle against the Guardian of the Threshold.

He cannot be attacked directly and can only be damaged by Aether through the power of the three elemental shards. The boss will hang out in the middle and attack you indirectly with projectiles and hazards throughout the area. There are three circular plates around the boss and a bell on the upper left side of the area. Interact with the bell and one of the plates will light up and spawn some demon enemies that you have to kill. Then lead Aether to the active plate and she will move to it and unleash an elemental attack on the boss. Repeat this three times to advance to the next phase.

In the first phase, there will be random vertical bursts of energy (sort of like lightning strikes) around the area.

In the second phase, there will be a constant bombardment of fiery meteors as well as random energy tornadoes around the area.

In the third phase, much of the ground falls away leaving a smaller surface area to work with. The meteors will change to icy projectiles and there will be random circles of ice damage like those created by frost sorcerers. A black knight will also spawn along with the demons each time you ring the bell.

Managing Aether during phases two and three can be a chore as she can be killed by the projectiles and the window to revive her, then get away from the next incoming projectile is annoyingly small.

After completing the third phase, the boss will die and an achievement will unlock:

The Last Battle in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Defeat the Guardian of the Threshold
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

You'll then regain control in another sunray sequence.

Quickly pick Aether up and run to the right. Follow the linear path (there are no enemies or hazards) until you reach a slope that leads down to a small boat and a cutscene will play out.

Aether will wash up on a beach and another achievement will unlock:

Which dreamed it? in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Complete the game with the good ending
  • Unlocked by 2 tracked gamers (1% - TA Ratio = 9.79) 192

Assuming you did everything properly, it will be the achievement for the good ending. Run all the way right with Aether and interact with an object at the end of the area to trigger a final cutscene and the credits.

External image

Once you get back to the main menu, choose "Load Game" and continue from your save file. You'll be at the start of the sunray sequence after having defeated the final boss. Stand in place for a minute or two (the EKG will turn orange, then red) until you fail the sequence. A message will appear giving you an option to continue to the bad ending or start over.

External image

Choose "Retry" to start the sequence again, then pick Aether up and run to the boat at the far right. Once you get there, a cutscene will play and an achievement will unlock:

The blue pill in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Complete the game with the bad ending
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

You'll then have control of Aether on a darker version of the beach. Head right and interact with the object at the end for a different ending scene and the credits.

External image

Nightmare Mode is available once you have a save file that has completed the game in Normal mode. In this mode, the environment is darker and enemies are stronger.

Choose "New Game" and pick a slot to use, then choose "Difficulty: Nightmare" and choose your original save file to import the data to your Nightmare save file. You'll be starting with your weapons and upgrades from the previous playthrough, which makes the Nightmare playthrough much easier.

Progress through the basic game objectives to acquire the three elemental shards. The shard guardians can be killed with three or four hard attacks by utilizing the range of the Giant Sword and rolling away to safety, then repeating:

You must not fail any of the sunray sequences so that you can get the Normal ending.

There's no need to bother with Fragments of Luce, Books, Giants, or NPC dialogue. You also want to avoid the four Shrines of Courage (each is glowing when first found and protected by a knight with a flaming sword). The Normal ending requires not interacting with them.

If you find additional Amulet of Shadows upgrades, they will accumulate (allowing for more healing charges) but they will not be displayed- only the original 10 nodes will be shown.

Having the Giant Sword from the start is completely unfair. The hard attack can one shot pretty much everything. Some strong shielded enemies may take two hits and bosses and giants will die in three or four.

Consult the main guide for direction if you're not sure exactly where to go or what to do.

Since the game doesn't ramp in difficulty as it did in Normal, this path through the objectives is actually much shorter:

The Place without a Voice > City of Yersinia > Mountains (through the 3 skull gate) > Electricity Dungeon > Desert > Fire Dungeon > Mountains > Swamp > Forest > Water Dungeon > City of Yersinia > Final Boss

After obtaining all three elemental shards, you must have Aether open the three secret areas since the associated achievement doesn't seem to unlock in Normal mode.

One is in the Place of Lost Memories next to the Church in the City of Yersinia.

External image

One is in the upper left part of the Desert.

External image

One is at the end of the downward/right path in the Swamp.

External image

I had Aether open the first two and then by simply getting close to the third, the achievement unlocked:

Down the Rabbit-Hole in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Discover all secret areas
  • Unlocked by 2 tracked gamers (1% - TA Ratio = 9.79) 192

If you follow the path I showed, you can have Aether open the secret area in the Desert the first time you go through it, then have her open the secret area in the Swamp the first time you go through it, then head back to the church for the last secret area on your way to the final boss and the achievement will unlock there.

The final boss plays out the same as in Normal mode. After he is defeated, get Aether to the boat before failing the final sunray sequence to unlock the remaining two achievements:

Home Again in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
Home Again1,600 (200)
Complete the game in Nightmare game mode
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

The red pill in Fall of Light: Darkest Edition
The red pill240 (30)
Complete the game with the normal ending
  • Unlocked by 3 tracked gamers (2% - TA Ratio = 8.00) 192

Game complete. Congrats!
