Start a new game and choose one of the three save files. The intro cinematic will play out, after which you will gain control of Dandara. The game will offer a basic tutorial, telling you initially to leap by using to aim, then pressing . A green leap line indicates the path to a surface that you can leap to while a grey line indicates that a leap cannot be made.
You cannot walk around freely; you can only move by leaping and you can only leap to white surfaces within the range of your leap. Make your way across the series of upper and lower platforms and at the end, you'll be told that you can shoot with + (aim with the left stick, hold , then release to fire a shot). Shoot the brown circular node to unlock the door, then leap to it and press to go through. You'll appear in the next room and an achievement will unlock:
This is the first room with numerous ledges allowing you to travel around in a somewhat nonlinear path. Make your way across the white platforms to reach a flag, then press to activate it. This is a save point and if you die you will respawn here. Make your way to the top of the room and interact with the switch to trigger a brief scene that shows a second switch and then the door you need to go through. Backtrack to the flag, then use the platforms on the right to get to the door on the bottom level and go through.
You'll see some bubbling on two platforms and when you get close, objects will appear. These structures can be destroyed by shooting the glowing green sections. Make your way to the right side of the room and destroy the structures as you go, then exit through the door. Shoot the green orb on the first visible structure, then get close to the next structure and shoot both glowing green orbs to destroy it. The next structure is much larger and has two weak points that need to be shot in somewhat quick succession, do so to destroy this structure and exit through the left door.
In the next room, a structure will surround you once you make two forward leaps. Shoot the two weak points to destroy it, leap forward twice, and shoot two more weak points to destroy the next structure. Leap forward once more and shoot three weak points to destroy another structure, then backtrack and head downward to a sloped ledge and another structure will surround you. Shoot the weak spot, leap forward, and destroy the moving weak spot on the next structure. Leap forward a few more times and shoot another moving weak spot, clearing the way to the door in the upper right of this room. Go to it and exit.
Make your way around the left side of the next room and through the door at the top, then exit. You'll be back in the starting area, so flip the nearby switch to trigger a brief scene that opens the way forward. You need to backtrack through previous rooms, though, so exit this room the way you came in. As soon as you get to the previous room you'll notice spikes moving around the platforms. this just forces you to leap through the room with caution to avoid the spikes. Do so and exit at the bottom.
Note that dying on the way back is fine as it will quickly take you back to the flag. Either way, once you get back to the starting room, head to the right side and exit through the door to appear in a forest-like area.
A few leaps to the right will bring you to the first campsite. Interact with it to raise the flag and open a menu with three options:
- Dandara - character upgrades (require salt and you currently have 0)
- Glossary - explains different things in the game as you encounter them
- ? - fast travel that gets unlocked later in the game
Leave the campsite and head right past a sign pointing up to the Village of Artists, then exit through the door on the far right. Continue straight to the right and exit, ignoring an unreachable chest in the center of the area for now. You'll encounter your first enemy in the next area, a fly of some sort. Get close and it will come at you, so shoot it once to kill it and you will receive some salt. The path splits four ways - right and down are dead ends, so head up and take the left fork to kill another fly. You'll then see something pulsing on the left.
You can leap through these pulsing people or shoot them to receive some salt (this one gives 110). Make your way to the upward path at the top and when you get into it, the screen will turn 90º, making it so you exit to the right. Continue to the right and kill two and then three flies, then exit right again. The screen will rotate when you enter the next area and you'll see a chest above you that you can't get to yet. Go to the right and carefully leap across platforms with spikes to reach a chest. Open it (and mark it on your map if you're choosing to keep track) to receive an Arrow of Freedom, which is a weapon upgrade that results in an additional projectile when you fire (four now instead of three).
From here you need to backtrack to the campsite. About halfway there, the screen will shake and six or so flies will appear, so carefully kill them and continue along (you can shoot the brown vines in the area where they appeared for some salt). Once you reach the room with the inaccessible chest in the center, you can go to the upper left to shoot some more brown vines for about 100 salt.
After resting at the campsite, head through the door at the end of the nearby upward path. You'll see a new type of enemy in this area. These sentries patrol back and forth and charge at you if you stand on their ledge. Kill them and exit to the right. Leap across a few ledges around to the right and you'll see a few things of note.
The spiked drone on the left cannot be destroyed and must instead be avoided and the two white buttons can eventually be activated by standing on them. Kill the sentry and make your way through the door on the left. You'll see a sentry patrolling in the next room and if you watch him momentarily, you'll notice a reaction as he walks across the central platform. These sections cause an electrical pulse after being stepped on, making it so you need to leap off of them quickly otherwise you'll take damage. Kill the sentry, then quickly leap across the electrified ledge and up to the chest, which contains the map that you can open with .
Exit through the door on the left, then exit through the next door. You can either take the top path past two spiked drones or the lower path past several electric ledges, then kill a sentry mage and shoot some crates to access the nearby chest. Quickly leap across the electric edges and open the chest to receive an Essence of Salt, which is a healing upgrade. You can now press to restore a heart of health, so do so if need be, then exit through the door in the upper left.
Upon entering the next room you'll see a sentry patrolling as well as something shooting projectiles at you from the far right. This blockade can be destroyed with a few shots, but you'll need to avoid its projectiles by leaping to the top and bottom ledges while you put damage on it. After destroying it, exit through the upper door into Tarsila's House. Get to the far right ledge and you can talk to Tarsila, who will activate her white buttons (making them green with a flashing base) so that they have an effect on something in the immediate area when you stand on them. Leap to the lower button which will cause a section on the left to move downward. Once it gets to the bottom, leap to it, then to the door in the upper left and exit. Break the crates in the next room and exit through the opposite door. In the next room, avoid the spiked drone and exit up through the nearby door.
Go right and exit down to find another pulsing person that gives 100 salt, then exit down. Use Tarsila's button in the next room to make a platform move towards you, leap to it when it is directly under the curved grey opening. From here you can leap onto a spinning block in the area above, then exit through the door at the top. Shoot the crate on the top ledge, then leap to where it was and then straight down and through a door to reach a chest that contains 320 salt. Return to the previous room and shoot the crate, then when the upper spiked drone moves to the right, leap to the ledge directly above and when the left drone gets close, leap to a ledge on the left and then quickly straight up to a door and exit. Go left and take the upper path the right, avoiding a spiked drone and killing a few sentries before exiting right.
Leap down and to a central path that leads to a campsite. Rest here to refill health and salt essence and choose the Dandara option for upgrades.
There are four different upgrade options but you only have access to two thus far: health upgrades (referred to in-game as endurance) that grant additional hearts and essences of salt upgrades that increases the hearts recovered with each use. The first upgrade costs 420 salt, so start by getting a health upgrade, giving you a fourth heart. The next upgrade costs 675 salt, which you don't have, so exit the campsite and head right and up to a door but don't go through. Head left from the door past a spike drone and a sentry and you'll see a chest. Open it for 200 salt and if you have 675 or more (I did), get another health upgrade for a fifth heart. Then go back through the door on the right.
Move slowly through this area as you'll be stirring up kamikaze orbs that you need to shoot. You'll eventually reach a stone barrier that you can't get past (yet), so break the crates above, then take the lower left path past a spiked drone and a sentry and exit down. Make your way all the way to the right past three sentry mages and through the door at the end and in the next room. You can go right to find an inactive white button, so instead take the upward path past a sentry mage and exit through the upper left door. Kill a sentry and move forward to find that you're on the other side of the stone barrier. Kill the remaining enemies and exit right. Break the two crates in the next room and exit right again.
Make your way to the right into the next area and you'll get closed in for a mini boss battle. This larger sentry will shoot projectiles as it travels back and forth. This is a fairly easy encounter where you want to try to get behind the sentry and shoot it as it comes towards you, then back away and repeat. After several shots it will be destroyed, opening the way forward. The path splits at the end so go up and through the door at the top into Thomaz's house. Talk to him and he will activate his buttons so that they turn purple and move when you step on them. Leap to the nearby purple button and the platform will move to the left, allowing you to access the door below and exit. Go through the downward door and stand on the purple button, leaping off at the bottom. Go left and through the door at the end, then in the next room make your way left past some sentry mages and kamikaze orbs and exit left.
Kill the sentries and smash the crates, then exit down. You can leap to the telescope for a full view of the area:
Proceed around and through this area, killing kamikaze orbs along the way, and exit through the door at the top right. Make your way across several spinning wheels to get to the door at the top, avoiding projectiles from sentry mages and killing them if you so desire. Exit up to reach a room with two chests, one with 200 salt and one with an Essence of Salt. Then backtrack through the room with the spinning wheels into the room with the telescope and exit left. Open a chest with 199 salt, then stand on one of Thomaz's buttons so you can exit left. Go up, left, then up and right to get back to the campsite and rest. You should be able to afford another upgrade here, so I chose an Essence of Salt upgrade, making it so each one heals two hearts.
Go back through the upper left door and head left past some sentries to reach a blocked path. Stand on Thomaz's purple button to make the barrier move, then leap off when it opens all the way and go up through the nearby door. Activate a flag to the left, then use Thomaz's and Tarsila's buttons to get to the door on the far left and go through. This upward hallway has a few buttons and exits, but you want to go right through the first door. The next room rotates when you enter and has two spiked drones. Go around them and through the door directly above the door you came in through and the next room will also rotate. Take out the enemies along the bottom (the blue sentry mages shoot a pulse of energy along the ground if you get close), then stand on Thomaz's button until the vertical platform below you moves all the way left, allowing you to leap to it. Do so, then go right and up through the door at the top.
Use Tarisla's button to get to the top of the next area, then leap off and shoot the nearby crates for some salt. Head over to the left side of the area and kill the sentry mages, being careful with the electrified ledges as you go. Then go through the upward door. Some kamikaze orbs will explode on a wall in the next area and you'll get some free salt. Stand on Thomaz's button and when you reach the top, leap to the Tarsila's button on the right. Once the barrier moves so that you can access the upper right door, leap to it and go through. Open the chest to the right for another Essence of Salt, then use Thomaz's button to move a platform all the way left. Leap to Tarsila's button and it will move upward, allowing you to leap to the platform that Thomaz's button moved. From here leap up to the door and go through. Follow the linear path left and around past some electrified ledges and kill several sentries, then avoid the spiked sentries as you destroy the blockade, allowing you to get to the door on the right side of the area. The screen will rotate when you leap to it, so exit upward and you'll meet Jonny B.
After he breaks a stone barrier with a missile, open the chest next to him to receive Johnny B. Missiles. You'll see a new meter in the upper left of the HUD and the green missile symbol. Move forward and you'll be told that you can shoot missiles by aiming with and holding (like you would to shoot normally), but rather than releasing X, press to shoot a missile. Shooting missiles uses energy from the new meter, resulting in limited use. You can refill this energy by resting at campsites or, in the event that you squander it while trying to break out of this area, by talking to Johnny B. Breakthrough the two stone barriers on the right and exit (you can shoot the crates in this room with missiles if you'd care to). Break another stone barrier and exit right again. Upon entering the next room, it will rotate. The right door leads back to the campsite and then to the first boss, but you want to go back through the last area to get a chest before leaving.
Go left, use Thimaz's button to lower the barrier, then exit up. Circle around to use the two buttons and exit through the far left door, then use a button and go through the first door on the right. Avoid the two sentries and exit through the door directly above, then go right and use Thomaz's button to move a barrier left so you can get to the upper right door and go through. Leap to Tarsila's button and stand on it just long enough to be able to leap to the door on the right, then go through. Go down and through a door to break several crates for sale, then return to the previous room and go up and through the door at the top. Shoot the crates on the left, then make your way around to Thomaz's button and use it to get to the door on the far left. Use Tarsila's button in the next room to raise a platform, then leap to the door on the left and shoot the pulsing person for 100 salt. Exit left, use Tarsila's button to go up, and exit right through door at the top of the area.
Kill the sentries, avoid the spike done, and break the blockade. Then use Thomaz's button to move to the right side of the area, shooting crates and leaping to the far right door when you can. Go through, then use Tarsila's button to ride downward and the screen will rotate. Try to shoot some crates, then leap across electrified ledges and exit right. Open a chest for 200 salt, then use Tarsila's button to lower a platform so you can go through the nearby door.
Take the lower path to the left and go through the downward door, then use Thomaz's button to open the way to the right so you can take the upper path and exit right through the door on the far right. Once you enter the next area, you'll get a brief scene that focuses on a door atop the area. Go down to the campsite and rest. Open the upgrade menu and you'll have a new option available: energy. This upgrade adds additional segments to the energy meter, but I bought a health upgrade for a sixth heart.
Before facing the first boss, head left from the campsite and work your way down to the bottom of the area using a Tasila button, then exit downward. The room will rotate, so kill two sentries and exit left. Continue left until you see an earlier campsite and the room will rotate. Go right and through the door and shoot all the brown roots in the upper left for some salt, then go around the right side of the chest and shoot the inner wall with a missile to open a path.
Leap to the chest and open it for an Essence of Salt, then head back through the lower-left door. Rest at the campsite if you need to and head upward, then exit right after the screen rotates. Exit right again and the screen will rotate, use the Tasila button to go upward, then rest at the campsite just above. From here go to the right and up, then back to the left and through a door at the top. Shoot through the two stone barriers on either side and go through the door at the top to enter the boss area.
The boss is a giant head and goes through two phases. In the first phase, his purple fists appear one at a time and smash the ground, releasing sparks that travel around the perimeter of the area. Avoid the sparks and shoot the fists. Then his head appears, spawns a few sentries, and shoots projectiles at you while bouncing around the area. You need to leap around to avoid him and his projectiles, all the while putting damage on him. After dealing enough damage, phase two begins.
In this phase, the boss is on the right side of the area and moves steadily away while shooting projectiles at you. There are alternating upper and lower platforms that you need to move across so that you can stay close to the boss to shoot it. Sentries will occasionally appear on the upper and lower platforms that you either need to shoot or move past quickly to avoid. Continue moving towards the boss and shooting him until he is defeated, after which an achievement will unlock:
Open the two chests for 900 and 200 salt, then exit to the right. Leap the rightmost ledge and talk to Lazuli to receive the Stone of Creation, unlocking an achievement:
Having this item allows you to make use of creation devices, one of which can be seen just above your position. If you leap to this device, you can then leap very far directly away from it.
Do so, then exit left twice, then take the door down to the area with the campsite. Go to it and rest and you should be able to get at least one upgrade. With four Essences of Salt, healing three hearts instead of two probably makes a bigger difference than getting a seventh heart, so I suggest an Essence of Salt upgrade. I don't suggest bothering with energy upgrades as you definitely won't be getting them in your speedruns, so not getting used to having extra energy now would benefit you in the long run. When you're ready, take the upper right door, then head right through the next area. Destroy a stone barrier with a missile and take the upper right exit. Exit through the next door into the room where you fought the first mini-boss. Take the upward path, destroy a stone barrier with a missile, and open the chest for an Infusion of Salt, allowing you to press to recover some energy (similar to the way that Essences of Salt recover some health). Also, note that the ledge to the left of the chest is inside a giant toothy mouth that closes on you if you stand on the ledge, so when you see these moving forward, be sure to move across them quickly.
Exit right, use a creation device to get to the other side, then exit right again. Go up and rest at a campsite, then open the upgrade menu to see the final upgrade option to increase infusion effect. Each upgrade here makes it so you recover more energy per Infusion of Salt uses, which again is not something you should worry about, instead, focusing on health and essence upgrades. Go back to the lower path and head right, then exit down. Follow the path around to the left, then use a Creation device to get to the other side to reach a chest that contains 900 salt. Backtrack to the campsite and get an upgrade if you can (I got a seventh heart), then go back to the path and exit right. Go all the way right to meet Lazuli who tells you that they have created a one-way path for you to reach the net area. Use the creation device to leap across the long gap, then go all the way to the right and exit.
Exit right again, then go farther right and rest at the campsite. Then go through the far right door into a purple area.
You'll see a purple square just ahead and if you leap to it, you can shoot, say, to the right to rotate the block 90º to the left. Do this twice, rotating the block 180º, so you can get to the lower path, then exit down to find a chest with an Infusion of Salt (beware the trapped ledge next to it). Backtrack to the rotating block and go right and through the door at the end (up leads to a dead-end for now). The next room contains another new environmental hazard - one-way spiked barriers:
You can leap across these barriers only in the direction of the four flashing purple triangles. If you leap at one from the other side, you'll hit the spikes and take damage. Leap through the top barrier and go up to find a pulsing person that you can shoot for 100 salt, then go back down and exit right.
Follow the twisting, linear path through this next room to the center, past two new sentry orbs, and deal with a blockade in the center, all the while avoiding its projectiles. Then continue along and through the door at the end. Use the creation device in the next room to exit left, then open the two chests that contain 320 salt and the Bracers of the Patient. This item allows you to hold to create a shield around you, but this costs energy and therefore can only be used sparingly.
Go left and exit up, then leap onto a moving platform and ride it to the left. You'll see debris fall onto a sentry and kill it, but when you pass under the falling debris, hold to create the shield and avoid taking damage. Leap up to the door before the moving platform carries you into spikes and exit up to find a chest with 900 salt, then go back down to pull a lever allowing you to reach the leftmost door. Go through, then avoid the spiked drones to get up to the door on the left and exit, then follow the path all the way left and exit again. Continue left and rest at the campsite, then get upgrades (I had just enough for two, so I got an eighth heart and an essence upgrade).
From here, go through the upper door on the right. After leaping across a few ledges, then the screen will rotate. Kill the enemies in the area and get to the lower path, then exit right. Open a chest with 320 salt, then go back to the previous room and go through the upward door on the other path. The screen will rotate and you should shoot the brown roots and crate for some salt, then kill the orb sentry at the bottom. Fight through several enemies as you make your way to the left, then destroy a blockade so you can reach the far left door. Shoot the pulsing person above for 110 salt, then exit left. Kill some orb sentries and shoot through brown roots to get to the next door and exit up. This area contains a boss that you won't fight until you explore further, then come back this way later. Shoot to rotate the block, then progress either way, carefully leaping past oscillating orbs. Once you reach the other side you can use another rotating block to get to the door at the bottom, then exit.
Make your way through the next room and when the path forks, follow it downward and back to the left. Shoot little mud guys who only stay dead for several seconds, which should give you plenty of time to continue along the path and past them. Follow the path to the far right door, go through, and rest at the next campsite just ahead.
Exit right through the door just below the campsite. This large room contains several rotating blocks and two chests. Open the one on the bottom for 200 salt, then rotate the block on the upper right so that you can leap to the side with the chest and open it for 200 salt. Get to the lower right door and go through. Destroy a stone barrier with a missile and continue right into a small area with a chest that contains an Infusion of Salt and a new enemy - some sort of projectile shooting plant. Backtrack to the room with the rotating blocks and exit through the upper right door. Destroy two stone barriers with missiles, shoot and avoid two mud enemies, and open a chest that contains 200 salt. Then backtrack to the campsite and rest (and get an upgrade if you can afford it, I got a ninth heart).
Leave the campsite and take the upward path, then exit up through the door at the end. The next area contains a new enemy - sort of a red squid with a spiked head that can be seen moving back and forth under the surface. If you leap past it, it will pop out drop straight across to the other side, revealing its red, vulnerable body briefly. You can shoot it several times to kill it if you want or just continue past and through the door at the opposite side. Continue right through the next area, avoiding green projectiles and shooting the stationary plant enemies, then exit right. The next room contains a few platforms that will move horizontally if you shoot in the opposite direction. Get to the right side of the room, then make your way to the creation device and leap down to the bottom, then exit down. Avoid the green projectiles and shoot some crates as you work your way to the door at the bottom of the next area and exit down.
You can take the initial down exit to get to a dead-end room with some crates that can be shot for salt, then return and take the first upward door. Make your way past two spiked squids and shoot some crates at the end of the area, then exit up. The next room has a steady flow of green projectiles and two up exits. For now, get to the one on the left beyond the rotating block and exit up. Go through the door in the next room to find a chest with an Essence of Salt, then return to the room with the rotating block and take the other up exit. Open the nearby chest that contains 900 salt, then get ready for an area that can be mildly irritating. You have to use rotating blocks to position yourself so that you can destroy a blockade at the top of the room, all the while avoiding its projectiles and the steady flow of green projectiles from either side of the area. Once the blockade is destroyed, exit up.
Follow the path up and go left when it splits to activate a flag (a savepoint without the campsite features) and flip a lever to move a barrier on the left. Then take the downward path past three spiked squids and exit down. Destroy a stone barrier with a missile, then exit left and follow the path to a chest that contains an Infusion of Salt. Backtrack to the flag, then take the upper right path. Use a creation device to get to the bottom of the area and exit down. Carefully go right through the next area, then you can shoot crates for salt on the right side of the next area before heading along the lower path and dealing with a blockade while two spiked squids harass you.
After the blockade is destroyed, continue right and exit up at the top. Exit through the door on the right and go up in the next room, then exit right at the top.
The next room is a linear path that requires you to leap past three waves of orbs moving in a pattern. Do so, then exit down and continue right past another wave of moving orbs to reach a campsite. Shoot the pulsing person to the right for 450 salt, then rest and upgrade if you can (I got a tenth heart and an essence upgrade). From here, follow the path to the right and ride a lift upward, then use a rotating block and talk to the Writer. Leap up and use the rotating block above, then leap up to another lift and exit right at the top. The next room contains a plant-like enemy on the right side that must be killed to advance. It constantly shoots projectiles along the outer ledges and will attempt to chomp you if you stand on the ledge directly across from it. You need to coordinate leaping to the central ledge, shooting it in its red center, then getting away before getting chomped while avoiding its red and yellow projectiles.
Kill it to receive 500 salt, then exit right. Continue to the right and leap to a platform between two torches, then press to obtain the Rock of Remembrance, unlocking an achievement:
Venture through the Desert to find the Rock of Remembrance.
This item causes various environmental interactions on terrain with brown skulls, as you'll see as you backtrack to the left. Make your way down the two lifts, past the Writer, and the exit left at the bottom. Move quickly to the left since the pillars will move due to the Rock or Remembrance (the third closes fast and will crush you if you're not careful) and rest at the campsite. Then head up and past a wave of orbs and the screen will rotate; exit left. Make your way past the three waves of moving orbs in the next area and exit down at the end. This hallway has more hazards that will be active, so make your way down carefully to the bottom and exit down.
Head right and the rotating platform will now move, allowing you to get past it to the right. You can go through the upward door to flip a switch and open a path to the previous campsite, then return and use the rotating platform on the right to get to the door below and exit down. Exit down again, then leap to a platform that moves when you shoot in the opposite direction. Shoot right to move left and carefully make your way past the yellow beams and spiked squid to reach a blockade that you must destroy before exiting left into a room with a rotating platform. Exit up, then go through the door on the right. Use the rotating platform to get to a small platform that moves when you fire in the opposite direction. Carefully make your way past the yellow beams to the right (you can use your shield) and exit right. Open the chest in the next room to receive the Memories Shaft. You can now toggle between Missiles and Memories Shaft with , but I honestly never found a use for this weapon though you can try it out if you so desire.
Return to the previous room, make your way left past the yellow beams, and exit left. Go up from the rotating block and the screen will rotate, then exit up. Go right past the spiked squid and new hazards and exit right, then go right and a barrier will open, allowing you to continue right and then up to get to a chest that contains 200 salt. Flip a nearby switch to open a path on the right, then notice that if you go down in this path, a barrier blocks the way to the left. This would normally force you to backtrack and take a longer path around, but you can cheat this barrier by moving quickly. Stand on the left ledge above the brown skills, leap almost straight down, then as fast as you can, leap up/left and if done properly, you'll clip through the barrier as it closes and end up on the left side of it. This is a helpful time save for your speedrun playthrough so I suggest practising it here until you get it to work.
This shortcut allows you to follow the green path shown below, whereas if you needed to backtrack properly, you'd have to follow the red path:
Assuming you take the shortcut, follow the path left, then up and exit up. Go left through the next room and exit left, then follow the path around to the right and kill two spiked squids. Stand on a platform on the left with brown skulls and it will rise to the top, allowing you to leap off to the right and open a chest that contains 320 salt. Flip the nearby switch to open a barrier above, then leap back onto the skull platform, causing it to rise. Be careful here to leap back off before it crushes you, but you must do so in such a way that you can leap to the bottom side of it. Backtrack down and to the left and use the creation device to leap to the top area, then go right and exit.
Things can get pretty crazy in the next room, you need to deal with several enemies and yellow beams as you push yourself to the right by shooting left. Exit right once you get to the other side and you'll enter a room with a rotating block in the center and a few outer platforms that can circle around it. Leap to the platform directly to the right, then leap to the platform above. Shoot once to the right to rotate counterclockwise and leap to the chest once you can, then open it to receive an Essence of Salt. Then get back to the door and exit left, backtracking left through the next room and into a room where you see a creation device. Go left here and raise the flag, then continue left and exit through the door. Propel yourself using a platform along the top of the area past two yellow beams and exit left. Go left through the next room and exit, then go right past a spiked squid and exit right. Get to the campsite just below where you enter and rest, upgrading if you can (I got an eleventh heart).
Leave the campsite and follow the path down to exit through the door below. Shoot some crates in the upper right for salt, then exit through the door at the bottom. You'll enter a room with a path that appears to be blocked, but the brown skulls indicate environmental interactions from the Rock of Remembrance, so leap to them and the path will open. Kill a plant, then shoot a missile at the stone barrier to exit up. The next room is large and has five switches that you need to flip to open the way to the door on the right side. There are several mud face enemies that can only be killed temporarily, so deal with them as you make your way to the first four switches, then use two rotating blocks to get to the fifth. Then exit through the newly accessible door. Smash some crates along a linear path in the next room and you'll see two rows of moving platforms with a blockade at the end.
You need to destroy the blockade while dodging its projectiles and also being careful not to hit the spikes that the platforms would push you in to, then exit right. Open a chest in the next room for an Essence of Salt, then backtrack to the campsite and rest.
Leave the campsite and exit left, then use two nearby creation devices to get back to the path on the left and continue along the upper path around to a door and exit. You'll enter the next boss area but you need to make your way around either side of the circular room (taking care with hazards) to a rotating block under a large brown face, after which you will be sealed in and the boss battle will begin.
An opening will appear above that you must quickly leap into to avoid being crushed, then leap across a couple of platforms into the central boss area to find a giant heart that you need to shoot. The heart will emit beams of light to indicate where projectiles will soon be shot, so leap away from any beams of light when they appear. The heart will also shoot single projectiles at you that you also want to leap away from.
Continue attacking the heart and eventually rays of light will cover the entire radius, so be ready to press and use your shield to protect from the projectiles, then continue attacking the heart. Repeat this process of avoiding beams of light and individual projectiles, then using to protect yourself from the full radius of projectiles until the boss is defeated, after which an achievement will unlock:
Leap to a small white section of a branch to talk to the heart, then leap through an upending at the top left of the area and fight past several sentries to find a chest that contains 900 salt. Backtrack to the heart and go downward, fighting past some more sentries until you reach a rotating block. Continue to the right past more sentries until you reach a small floating platform that you can leap straight up from into an area with two more chests that both contain 900 salt. Backtrack to the rotating block, rotate down and exit through the door below.
Shoot through the brown roots and destroy two orb sentries as you follow the path to the bottom, then exit right. Fight through several more enemies and get to the door on the far right, then exit. Go left along the upper path towards a door and the room will rotate as you get close to it, then go down through it. Go a short way left and rest at the campsite. Upgrade as you see fit (I got a heart and an essence upgrade), then go down through the door just right of the campsite. Follow the path to an area with upper and lower platforms that move when you shoot the opposite direction and get across to the other side while dealing with floating green bubbles and a sentry mage, then exit down.
As you approach the door on the right, an enemy in a movable turret will appear on the yellow tracks below. This guy will annoy the crap out of you as you make your way through the next few rooms since he can shoot at you with complete impunity. Exit right, then quickly go past a sentry orb and exit right again. A second turret enemy will join the fun in the next room.
Quickly leap upward, shoot come crates, and open a chest that contains 900 salt, then go back to the bottom of the area and exit right, avoiding fire from the two turret enemies as best you can. Only the second turret enemy will follow you as you continue right and into the next room. You want to move quickly through this area across the one-way barriers and exit through the door in the bottom right into an area where the turret enemy will finally leave you alone.
Hop down to the platform with the brown skulls on the right and the nearby platforms will start oscillating. Once they are in the proper alignment, leap across them to the other side. Ignore the door and head up to find a control panel in a small room that you can interact with; do so to move a barrier, then continue up and to the left to reach a campsite. Rest, then backtrack right and down through the door at the bottom. Go left, leap across a one-way barrier, and continue left to find a new enemy that looks like he is laughing. He will shoot a projectile straight out towards you that will turn 90º towards you once it gets close, so leap from top to bottom to avoid his projectiles and shoot him a few times to kill him, then exit left.
The next room has a series of rotating blocks and moving lasers where you must leap to a rotating block and shoot up to rotate downward where the lasers won't hit you. Then shoot right to rotate so you can leap to the next rotating block and repeat. You'll have to improvise halfway across to deal with a sentry orb. Exit left, then avoid the sentry orb and turret fire to quickly exit through the next door. Leap downward and the room will rotate, but be careful as after leaping through the one-way barrier, a mini boss encounter will begin. Make sure you have full health, then enter the central tunnel and a scythe dasher enemy will appear. These enemies try to dash into you so you need to figure out their movement patterns and leap out of the way once they commit to their dash, shooting them when you can. Feel free to unload with missiles but unless you've upgraded energy (which I haven't suggested you do), you won't have much missile ammo. After the scythe dasher is killed, use two rotating blocks to reach a door and exit right.
Go right and use a rotating block to leap downward through a one-way barrier, then continue right and onto a ledge next to a purple glowing crystal that you can interact with. Do so to receive the Stone of Intention, unlocking an achievement:
This item allows you to use rotating platforms that block access to various areas. Backtrack left along the lower path to find one such platform and a pulsing person that you can shoot for 450 salt.
When you stand on one of these rotating platforms, you'll now receive a prompt to press , rotating the platform 180º and taking you with it. Do so, then exit left and backtrack through a few rooms to the closest campsite. Rest and upgrade (I got the final essence upgrade), then use the creation device above to leap left and go through the door on the left. This room has a long line of rotating platforms in the center and several laughing enemies. Make your way along the lower path clearing out enemies as you go, but be careful as two kamikaze orbs appear at the far left side of the area. Make your way to the right and kill the rest of the laughing enemies, find the upper gap that has ledges you can leap to. Leap into this gap and shoot the top wall with a missile to reveal a secret door, then exit up.
Shoot the pulsing person for 450 salt, then open the chest for a whopping 2200 salt. Exit down, then go back to the left and exit up. This room can be messy as it has several platforms that move when you shoot the opposite direction, a few sentry mages, and a laughing enemy at the far side. Deal with them, then get to the platform with the chest and open it for 320 salt. Then exit right. Exit up through the door at the top of the next room, then deal with the sentry mages, laughing guys, and blockade in the next room so you can exit right. Open the chest to receive the Logic Blast, another weapon that I never found much use for, then backtrack, then across platforms to exit left. Go left through the nearby door and destroy another blockade while two laughing enemies shoot at you, then exit left. Use the two rotating blocks so that you can open the chest to receive an Infusion of Salt, then exit left. Leap down with tree creation devices, then make your way to the door on the left and exit.
Go left and through an up door into a room with two sentry orbs, tow chests, and some rotating platforms. Rotate on the first platform, leap to the next, and rotate again to get to the chest on the ground that contains 900 salt. Shoot the ceiling directly above with a missile to reveal a secret path, then make your way around and over to the other chest that contains 2200 salt. Exit down, then head left through the door and to the campsite to rest and upgrade. I had almost 9000 salt so I was able to get five upgrades! I'll leave it up to you to decide what to upgrade, but remember that while having additional energy may make things easier, this is not a luxury that you will have in speedruns so I suggest you try not to rely on energy weapons beyond maybe a single energy upgrade which will allow for double the number of missiles or shield use. When you're ready, exit down through the door to the right of the campsite.
Proceed through this room and exit down, then head down along the left side of the room and exit left at the bottom. Go into the first downward path and the screen will rotate. Continue forward and use the rotating wheel to get to the door directly above and go through. You will be bombarded by turrets in the next room so quickly get to the door on the right side and go through. In the next room, you need to use platforms that move when you shoot in the opposite direction to get past several lasers, then exit right. Go all the way right in the next room until things rotate 90º, at which point you'll discover a campsite that you can't access. Once this happens, backtrack to the room with the rotating wheel and use it to get back to the left side, after which the room will rotate and you will see a rotating platform.
Use it, then use the adjacent rotating platform and follow the path right and up, then around to the left. Use two more rotating platforms to reach a chest with an Infusion of Salt. Then go all the way left and through a door at the end. As you follow the path to the left the screen will enlarge and you'll see that some sections have spikes that appear and reappear. Avoid the spikes and exit through the door on the far left.
The next room is full of ledges with alternating spikes, so make your way left and open a chest along the way with 900 salt, then exit through the door on the far left side of the area. Use a rotating wheel in the next room to get to the downward path and make your way through the door on the bottom level. The next room will rotate as you enter, so go left and through the door at the end (fighting off two groups of flies). After making a few leaps to the left, the screen will rotate and you'll get attacked by several foes. Deal with them, then follow the path to the left, down, and around to the right until the screen rotates again. Go left from here and a barrier will open, then follow the path to find an opening at the bottom with a circular brown node underneath a solid area. Stand on the ledge on either side and shoot a Logic Blast towards the circular node and it should bounce around and hit it, removing a barrier blocking the way to three chests just ahead. Open them for an Infusion of Salt, 900 salt, and 320 salt.
Backtrack to the rotating wheel and go upwards, then follow the path around and exit at the top. Follow the path to the four way split and go left to get to a campsite and rest. Then take the upward path at the four way split, use a rotating platform, and exit at the top to get to an area with a large swirling purple background. Leap up to the spinning tube and go through to get to the Dream Lands.
You'll see six spinning tubes in this central hub area, the one you came in through and five others. This area is a little confusing and there are two areas that can be accessed from these five tubes.
Enter any tube and you will appear in one of two places:
- In an area on a spinning tube with a path going to the left with projectiles flying everywhere:
- In an area that rotates once you appear with a path going to the right:
Go in/out until you get to the area with projectiles everywhere and do your best to get through the linear path, avoiding the projectiles as you go. Exit through the spinning tube at the end and you'll appear in another area. Make your way around to the left side of the area and go through the spinning tube there (ignoring the spinning tube at the bottom center) and as soon as you appear, you'll see a chest below. There's no direct way to get to this chest (that I'm aware of). Instead, you must use the Memories Shaft weapon to create a hazard that you can leap into, stunning you in midair so you can then leap to the white ledge above the chest. You can then go around to the chest (watch for the spike on the last platform) and open it for 900 salt. You need to use the Memories Shaft again to get back to the main path, then make your way around the area to open the other four chests for 8, 8, 8, and 320 salt. Be careful with the two sentry orbs, though, as they seem to have more health than others.
Once you are done here, you'll probably want to get back to campsite to rest and maybe get an upgrade. Go through the spinning tube in the middle to get back to the central hub, then go back through the tube that you just came through to leave the area. Head down, then left and around to the campsite to rest. Return to the central hub and go in/out of tubes until you get back to the area full of projectiles. Go through the spinning tube at the other end of the path, then go through the spinning tube in the middle of the next area to reach an area with a downward central path.
There is a lot going on in this larger, more open area. You want to make your way down, then left and out to some circular platforms that rotate when you shoot in the opposite direction. There will be a constant bombardment of projectiles and numerous flies. Go as far right as you can, then straight down and you will eventually see a chest. Open it for another Arrow of Freedom, which adds a fifth projectile to your shot. Make your way to the left side of the area and you'll find a spinning tube; go through it to get back to the central hub. If you've taken damage and used essences to heal, you may consider going through the spinning tube to exit and backtracking to the campsite to rest before moving on.
Go in/out of tubes until you get to the screen that rotates and has a path to the right. Go through the spinning tube at the end to get to a corner room that should look familiar. This next stretch of the dream lands is a copy of an earlier area and can get confusing as things change when you go through a door, you often cannot backtrack directly. Exit through the right door into another familiar area that you'll soon be going through multiple times, then head to the right slowly as there are numerous enemies in the area, including several kamikaze orbs that appear when you get close. Continue along the upper right path and go through the door at the end. You'll be back in a corner room with four crates. Shoot them to reveal some sentry orbs and a chest that contains 320 salt, then exit right again to get back to what looks like the previous room.
Again, carefully fight past enemies and destroy a blockade, then destroy a stone barrier with a missile. Then take the lower left path and exit down and head left past some spiked sentries. Kill the sentry mages and shoot some crates so you can get to to the chest at the bottom that contains Anxiety Shock, another energy weapon that I didn't find useful, then exit up. Take the upper right path and exit right. Back in the corner room, quickly exit right back into the previous area a third time. This time, enemies turn into sentry orbs when shot, so move slowly and clear them out as you go otherwise it will get hectic. Take the down left path (flies can be killed without issue but sentries will become sentry orbs so I suggest just avoiding them) and exit down to get to an area with a nearby chest that contains 2200 salt, then return to the previous area. Head to the right again and quickly move across some circular platforms, then through the spinning tube at the end into another corner room.
Exit through the opposite door and you'll appear in a new room.
As you go the right, you'll get closed in to a horizontal hallway and face two new enemies in a mini boss battle. These floating mages will move around and occasionally shoot three projectiles at you. The projectiles are about to be fired your way when you see the orb on their staffs glow. You need to leap around the area to avoid the mages and their projectiles, taking care to also avoid the two electrified platforms in the middle, and shoot the mages whenever you can. This can get hectic but you'll need to get a feel for how the enemies move and shoot.
Should you die here, the fastest way back is to take the path from the central hub described above until you reach the first corner room, then exit through the door you came through, then exit back through the door you came through again and continue right until you get back to the mini boss area.
Exit through the spinning tube on the right and you'll see a switch in the next area. Flip it to open a path to a campsite, then use the creation device to leap to it and rest and upgrade. Leap over to the platform on the right by the crescent moon and interact to receive the Pearl of Dreams, unlocking an achievement:
You can now teleport from campsite to campsite through the newly available "Dream" option.
Before continuing, we need to open a chest by the Reasoning Lock campsite, so go there. Depending on whether or not you flipped a switch an extra time, the chest may be accessible just below the campsite. If it is, great. If not, follow the path around to the right and flip the switch, moving the barrier by the chest. Then circle around down, left, and up to a laughing enemy and let him kill you. You'll respawn at the Reasoning Lock campsite and can then open the chest for an Infusion of Salt. Use the creation Device above the campsite to get to the left side, then head down to collect your corpse. Circle back around and flip the switch so you can get back to the campsite, then teleport to the Breach in the Wall campsite. You are now inside the final area and you couldn't get here without teleporting in.
Exit down and open a chest for 900 salt, then go back to the door and leap into the wall on the right to get into a secret area with a chest containing 2200 salt. Backtrack to the previous room and head up, using rotating platforms to avoid lasers and get to the opposite door. You'll see an enemy with a horse head walking in a stationary orb, this enemy is connected to the lasers in the area and if you kill him, the lasers disappear. I suggest doing this in each room moving forward but in your speedrun, there will not be enough time and you'll end up blitzing through this area instead.
Exit right and use some rotating platforms to get to the other side. Kill the horse enemy, then exit right. Do the same in the next room and exit right into a small corner room where the bastard turret enemy from earlier will appear. Kill the horse enemy and exit right into a room with two blockades and some sentry orbs that you have to deal with while the turret enemy shoots at you, which can get annoying. Exit right as quickly as you can and you'll be in a central area where both turret enemies will appear. There is an opening under the end of both turret tracks that they can be damaged through and your goal is to destroy both by luring them to the openings and shooting them when they are there, all the while trying to avoid their attacks. This can be overwhelming and I prefer to take out the one on the right first, unloading on him with missiles when he's in the damage zone. Once they have both been destroyed, the path in the center opens and you can get up to a campsite above to rest.
Use the creation device and a rotating platform to get back to the lower path, then go right and through the right door.
Follow the linear path into an annoying room with spiked walls, rotating circular platforms, and a bunch of enemies. Clear them out and kill the horse enemy at the end, then exit left into a room with three visible chests. Open the two on the left side for 900 salt x2, then go on the upper right rotating wheel and rotate it to bring the chest into the room so you can open it for 2200 salt. Backtrack to the previous campsite to rest, then return to the lower hallway and follow the path down and to the left to exit down into the Golden Fortress, the final and most difficult area in the game.
You need to take four treacherous paths to remove barriers that allow you to get to the final boss. Exit right into a room with a large sentry drone and two horse enemies. Take your time to destroy all three while avoiding sentry fire as well, after which the room will become benign. Exit right into a room with turrets, rotating platforms, and enemies. You can clear out the enemies if you want but I suggest just kamikazeing through the area to the lower left where you can shoot a switch to open a barrier (backtrack to the campsite if you need to rest), then exit down. The next room has a rotating laser hazard that you need to go around with care, using a rotating platform to get to the lower part of the area with a few enemies that you should kill. Then make your way past a laser and some laughing enemies using rotating platforms to get to the exit door where you can destroy a horse enemy, then exit left.
The next room has electrified ledges that you need to move quickly past and I suggest just brute-forcing through the laser and ignoring the enemies to exit up into a room with three blockades in a central area. You need to destroy them while avoiding turret fire from above and below. Leap between the rotating platforms to shoot the first two blockades and once they are destroyed, leap into the central area to destroy the third. Then kill the horse enemy above you if you'd care to and exit left. Shoot the two red buttons to remove barriers, go back to the campsite to rest, then return here and take the left door.
The next room contains a new muscular enemy. These enemies are 100% reactive to you, they will leap to the opposite surface and release spark of energy whenever you make a leap near them or when you shoot them. Kill him with two or three shots, then exit left to a room with two muscular enemies and some sentry orbs. Watch out for the electrified ledge in the upper left and clear out the enemies, then exit down. This room can get hectic. You want to kill the sentry orb and muscular guy to the left, then kill the horse enemy behind the rotating platform. Then go to the upper area and kill a muscular enemy, a laughing enemy, and another horse enemy behind a rotating platform. Once this is done you can use a creation device to get to the door and exit down.
Quickly take out the blockade and try to kill the sentry orb while dealing with the muscular enemy, who you can shoot somewhat safely from the top or bottom floating platform. Follow the path around and exit up into a room with electrified floors and another muscular enemy. Scoot past him and exit right, then shoot the two red buttons to remove barriers and go up to rest at the campsite. Return here, then take the now open downward path past some rotating platforms and exit left.
This room contains several square platforms that can rotate when you fire, some turrets, a horse enemy, and two barriers with red buttons that must be shot to open the way to the door. You're safe for as long as you remain on the entrance door. Make your way quickly to the lower platform and rotate to face the horse enemy so you can kill him to disable the turrets. Then get to the central platform and rotate it to shoot the two red buttons on the barriers, leaping to the door once you can to exit left. Kill a leaping enemy in the next room, then use a rotating platform and you'll have to fight a scythe dasher enemy. Shoot a red button to break a barrier, then kill a muscular enemy and a laughing enemy, break another barrier, and exit down.
This next room contains two scythe dasher enemies and its up to you whether you want to fight them or just try to ignore them and dash through. You need to use a rotating block and then break a barrier, then use another rotating block to reach the door on the right side and exit. Once outside, start by killing the sentry orb and the laughing enemy beyond the first rotating platform, then use the second rotating platform to aggro a scythe dasher with two sentry mages nearby. Kill them, then take the lower path to the right past a muscular enemy. Go up on the far right side and use a rotating platform, then go left past three more rotating platforms and exit up into a room with a laughing enemy but do not kill him. Instead, go all the way left and stand on the platform closest to the chest. An enemy projectile will hit you and knock you into the air so that you can leap to the platform with the chest and open it for an Essence of Salt. Leap to the platform above and use it to get back to the door and exit, then follow the path past four rotating platforms to get back to the central area and use three more rotating platforms to get to the door at the top right side of the area and exit up.
This room is dangerous. You need to contend with electrified ledges, two scythe dashers, and two sentry orbs while you try to destroy a red button barrier, then quickly get to the exit door. I suggest trying to brute force through it without fighting the enemies. The next room is empty, so simply exit right to get back to the central area where you can destroy a red button barrier above, allowing you access to the campsite above. Go up and rest, then return and take the door on the right. Be careful with the moving saw near the door as you exit right, then use a rotating platform and you'll have to fight a floating mage. Your best bet is to try to stay in one place, leaping from top to bottom to avoid his projectiles while you shoot at him when you can. Once he is dead, use the rotating platform to get to the area above, kill the sentry drones, and loot the chest for 2200 salt. Then use the lower rotating platform and quickly get to the door to exit down (just leap past the sentry drones at the bottom to do so).
Head down through this large room and deal with a scythe dasher and a floating mage, then exit through the door on the right. This area is filled with sentries and moving saws, so do your best to safely get through the door on the left and in the next room, avoid the saws to kill the horse enemy. Go back to the previous room with the saws and exit through the opposite door to an outside area. Use a rotating platform, then head into a purple hallway leading up and avoid some spiked sentries to exit right. Avoid the saws and destroy a barricade, then exit right into a room with a chest containing an Essence of Salt. Head back outside and get onto a platform under the purple hallway with a spiked sentry. Leap to the bottom of the small platform on the right and you can leap straight down to a platform with a chest that contains 2200 salt. Then exit left through the door on the far left.
This next hallway can be dangerous. Kill the two sentries, then go to the platform with a saw and pull the scythe dasher back towards the door. Kill him, then continue left and kill some sentry orbs, then exit left. You'll see a red button barrier above and a rotating platform to the left that can't be reached, so you'll need to use a Memories Shaft to create a beam that you can leap into, allowing you to then leap to the rotating platform. Destroy the red button barrier, then use the rotating platform and destroy the sentry orbs. Take the up/right path past some enemies to a chest containing 320 salt, then get to the chest in the upper left corner which contains 2200 salt. Then exit left through the nearby door.
Destroy two sentry orbs, then go up to a chest containing 2200 salt. Use the rotating platform and go up on the left to a chest containing an Infusion of Salt, then go straight down to a chest containing an Arrow of Freedom, after which an achievement will unlock:
Backtrack to the previous room and take the path that was blocked by the red button barrier and exit right. This room is crazy as it contains sentry orbs, saws, muscular enemies and even a spiked squid. Carefully fight your way through and exit up. Use a rotating platform on the left and then go through a slanted rotating platform. Kill the nearby sentry orb, then use the next rotating platform to get one level above and fight another floating mage and two sentry orbs. Use the far left rotating platform to get the the level above and easily kill the normal sentries and laughing enemy, then kill the sentry orb to the right. Go up one more level, kill a laughing enemy, and exit up to get to the final campsite.
Exit left and flip a switch to unlock the door to the final boss. Return to the previous room and exit up and destroy a red button barrier, then return to the campsite.
You eventually need to grind out 20,000 salt for three achievements. The best route I've found is right here and can be done now or after you defeat the final boss. From the campsite, exit down and quickly kill the laughing enemy on the left. Use the rotating platform and kill a second laughing enemy, then go down via the next rotating platform and kill a floating mage. Go down and then right to kill another floating mage, then up to kill a scythe dasher. Go up and exit up, then kill another floating mage before heading through the door on the left, then down and back to the campsite to repeat. This will net you about 1100 salt per run. After reaching 8000, 13000, and 20000 salt, you'll unlock three achievements:
All that is left to do is defeat the final boss. Exit up, then go left and through the door at the bottom to reach the final area, after which an achievement will unlock:
Make your way across the platforms until you reach the last one at the bottom and the two phase encounter with Eldar will begin.
For his first phase, he is inside a television of sorts that floats around the center of the area.
You want to shoot the television while constantly moving around it to avoid projectiles, Eldar projections that roam around the perimeter, and the television itself which can crush you and kill you instantly. When you see it stop moving, try to get in a position diagonally as it will soon slam horizontally or vertically into the wall which will kill you instantly if you get caught in between. Once this phase is defeated, an achievement will unlock:
During the second phase, Eldar appears as a circular entity in the center and is surrounded by a dozen or so outer platforms that form a ring around him.
By shooting Eldar, you can break away a chunk of his protective layer and then damage him by shooting the weak inside part, but the protective layer will regenerate automatically. Eldar will create several types of hazards that you have to avoid while you're attacking him - a burst of projectiles fired in your direction, several triangular projectiles that fire outward (then circle around the area), a laser beam that rotates around the area, and large yellow faces that slowly track you. Like with the television phase, you can leap onto him if it helps moving around or avoiding projectiles. Continue shooting him until he is killed, resulting in a brief explosion animation. You'll then regain control and must shoot his disfigured body to complete the encounter, after which you will the ending cinematic and credits play out and three more achievements will unlock:
This is everything you can complete in this playthrough. If you missed anything, you can continue from the main menu and backtrack to revisit anywhere that you may need to. Otherwise, it's time for additional playthroughs to complete the remaining achievements.
