Orbital (WP)

I'm going to take you through the achievements for Orbital which is a fun windows phone game.

The majority of the achievements (10 out of 15) can be earned in any mode.

There is an achievement for obtaining a specified score in each of the three game modes.

The final two achievements are for playing in multiplayer mode, although these achievements can be obtained without a second player.

I will include the achievements in the order I expect them to be achieved, you may obtain them in a different order depending on how quickly you pick up the game mechanics.

1) Start a game in Supernova mode to learn how to play and obtain the specific achievement for this mode by earning 200 points. You are likely to earn many of the general achievements whilst working on this.

2) Start a game in Gravity mode to obtain the specific achievement for this mode by destroying 50 orbs.

3) Start a game in Pure mode to obtain the specific achievement for this mode by destroying 15 orbs.

4) Start a game in multiplayer mode to aim the two multiplayer achievements.

5) Continue playing in your favourite mode to mop up any remaining achievements.

Have fun!

The aim of the game is to score as many points as you can destroying Orbs. An Orb is destroyed when it is hit a specific number of times, the number of hits required is shown in the middle of the Orb. The size of an Orb depends on its location on the field, you shoot an Orb from the turret and it expands where it lands to be as large as possible without it touching the sides or other orbs.

There are three game modes which can be played

Supernova

You control the turret and a laser shows where the Orb will move. You need to hit each Orb five times to destroy them. As an Orb explodes it hits any other nearby Orbs so it is possible to build up a large multiplier if Orbs are placed together.

Gravity

The turret moves automatically so you have to time your shots carefully. You need to hit each Orb three times to destroy them. Orbs on the field have a gravity effect which pulls the Orb you shoot towards them.

Pure

The turret moves automatically so you have to time your shots carefully. You need to hit each Orb three times to destroy them.

I will include the achievements in the order I expect them to be achieved. You may obtain them in a different order depending on how quickly you pick up the game mechanics.

Supernova mode

Start a game in Supernova mode and fire your first Orb onto the field. Continue firing Orbs into this first Orb until it has been hit five times and explodes unlocking:

Bring it on

Destroy your first Orb

Continue to shoot Orbs onto the field trying to aim the Orbs so they land near the top and edge of the field so they stay small. Also, try and cluster Orbs together to take advantage of the explosions to build up multipliers. Continue to destroy Orbs until you reach a score of 200 to unlock:

Burst into Space

Earn 200 points in one Supernova game

Whilst working on the above you will also unlock the below achievements

Depending on how quickly you pick up the game you are likely to need to play at least 25 games to build up your skill and strategy to reach a score of 200. Once you have played 25 games you will unlock:

The game got me

While working on obtaining a score of 200, you may fire an Orb and it bounce and land just above the Death Line unlocking:

Near Death Experience

Receive "That was close" in one game

Near Death Experience
Offline Game ModeSingle Player

Here is a video of how to achieve it (apologies for the poor video quality, I have no other way to capture WP footage)

Gravity mode

Start a game in Gravity mode trying to aim the Orbs so they land near the top and edge of the field so they stay small. The gravity pull will help the Orb hit another or land close to other Orbs which will enable you to bounce off several Orbs in one shot.

Continue to shoot Orbs onto the field to destroy Orbs until you reach a score of 50 to unlock:

Beam them up

Destroy 50 Orbs in one Gravity game

Beam them up

Whilst working on the above you should also try to obtain the below achievements which require ten and thirty orbs to be on the field at the same time respectively.

Try to aim the Orbs so they land near the top and edge of the field so they stay small, bouncing the Orb off the side of the field slows them down and gravity should pull them so they cluster together. It can also be useful to block the bottom of the screen by a large Orb to prevent any Orbs bouncing over the Death Line.

Pure mode

This is the hardest of the three modes as there is no gravity pull so you have to aim Orbs more precisely.

Start a game in Pure mode trying to aim the Orbs so they land near the top and edge of the field so they stay small. When an orb bounces off the edge or another Orb it slows down so use this to your advantage to keep the Orbs in play.

Continue to shoot Orbs onto the field to destroy Orbs until you reach a score of 15 to unlock:

Pure Fun

Destroy 15 Orbs in one Pure game

Multiplayer mode

Start a game in multiplayer mode (set to one round), which is local multiplayer so the achievements can be obtained by yourself.

Simply fire your Orb so it goes outside the playing field to lose the game and unlock:

Mop up

Continue playing in your favourite mode to mop up any remaining achievements. The ones you are likely to have to work on are below.

Fire an Orb and it bounces and lands just above the Death Line three times in the same game unlocks:

Survivor

Receive "That was close" three times in one game

Survivor

See the video in the Supernova section above for an example of how to achieve it once. You can repeat it on each side and then clear the orbs on one side to set it up for the third time. It is likely to take some practice.

A double bounce is where you destroy two Orbs with one strike. This is easier to obtain in supernova because you can use the explosions to destroy extra orbs. Group Orbs closely together and try and hit them so two or more Orbs nearby only have one hit remaining. If you are unable to bounce off the first Orb to the second Orb, hopefully the explosion will destroy the second.

Similarly, a triple bounce is where you destroy three Orbs with one strike. This is easier to obtain in supernova because you can use the explosions to destroy extra orbs. Group Orbs closely together and try and hit them so three or more Orbs nearby only have one hit remaining. If you are unable to bounce off all the Orbs hopefully the explosion will destroy the second. Multipliers of more than three also count towards this achievement.
