Shining Resonance Refrain

So what we have here is a walkthrough for Shining Resonance Refrain. SRR is an RPG with real time combat. It's quite similar to something like Tales of Vesperia or Star Ocean : TLH. You control one character and the others are AI controlled, and you can switch to them as you wish. The story, in typical JRPG fashion, hits on quite a few cliches.

Your adventures in Alfheim will actually be pretty breezy. Unlike most RPGs there's not a ton to stress about. Your only missable achievement involves not using an item you get from two characters which is pretty easy to do, so there's not much to worry about. Only one other achievement is "missable", and it's only for a long time. With a little extra work you can get it post-game, but it takes about 1 minute to do before it becomes impossible to do for awhile and you could even get it through regular play by accident. Most everything else is a mix of story stuff and cumulative stuff you can work on as you go, like using 100 force abilities and ending 100 fight in dragon form. The main grind in this game will be doing night events and dates to get your affection up with all your party members. This unlocks their ending, and there's an achievement for each. The good news is that when you get an ending you can save and load it, and you'll be right before you choose your ending, so only one playthrough is necessary. Anyway, our path to 100% looks like this...

1. Story playthrough. We'll get most of the achievements here as we play through the game.

2. Even though we'll work on it during the story, you'll likely have to grind night events/dates to open up the ending for everyone. The endings are just choosing your lover or whatever and beating the final boss, so it can be done quite quickly.

3. Now we'll clean up anything we have left in post-game. There's rare monsters to hunt down, leveling to 100, and making 50 unique aspect pieces. There might be a few cumulative achievements left, but nothing that will take a long time if we farm them.

Not too much to talk about on this page, everything is explained as it comes in the game. A few notes though.

Controls

cn_A = Confirm/run or dash (in battle)
cn_B = Cancel or regular attack (in battle)
cn_X = Defend
cn_Y = Changes map to gone, minimap, full or Break attack (in battle)
cn_RT = Lock onto an enemy
cn_RB = BAND (when unlocked)
cn_LT = Nothing
cn_LB = Hold and press a face button to use force abilities
cn_start = Menu
cn_back = World Map
cn_dpad = Gives orders during battle depending on what face button you press. You can hold UP to give commands to your entire party, or hold a specific direction to only order one party member. No attacking means they won't attack, but will heal. Healing first means they will attack, but concentrate on healing first. Act Freely makes them do as they want. Offense means they spam skills with no regards to their MP.

Missables - Only one achievement is missable, and that's Wheel of Fortune. After your first date with Excella and Jinas, they'll each give you a sigil, which is an item you can use with the grimoire. YOU MUST NOT USE THEM. You then need to finish the game, get both of their endings, and then talk to a girl in town to get Wheel of Fortune. They aren't given as part of the story, so what I did was not date them until after the story was done, that way I wouldn't have their sigils. Once I was in post-game, I dated them and then did their endings, and got this.

Another important thing is that holding the cn_A button is your run button. The only method of fast travel is using a Marga Stone to return to town. That means you have to walk everywhere you need to go, and can only save yourself the return trip. So running is pretty important because you're going to be doing an absolutely stupid amount of it. I hate it.

Sadly, on top of not having a fast travel system, this game also has no way to switch characters without going into the menu and moving them into the leader position. It reallllly sucks.

Start by selecting new game. You'll be asked whether you want standard or refrain mode. There's a few achievements that you can only get in refrain mode, so you want to choose that. The downside is that you have two extra characters, which will break your immersion of the story, because of who they are. However, why force yourself into 2 playthroughs?

Your next choice is difficulty. I did casual. Even on casual things can get rough sometimes, I assume you'll need to do extra grinding on normal to be able to keep up with bosses, so that's up to you. You can change it in-game if you feel it's too easy. After some scenes you'll be in a prison cell block. Turn around and open the chest for a potion. Now follow the path to an event, which you can see on the map is a circle with exclamation points in it. You'll have a battle, the game will tell you the basics. There is a ring around your character's feet that displays your AP, when the bar is empty you can't attack, so you have to be careful about just mashing cn_B. Generally you can get 2-3 full attack strings out before you'll need to stop attacking to let your AP regenerate. Cut both soldiers down to win, and get an achievement.

If you look at the map (press cn_Y to change whether it's invisible, minimap, or whole map superimposed over the screen) you'll see red dots, these are battles. There's one southwest of you, and one straight south. Fight them both, and try to win one of the battles without getting hit. Note that you can block with cn_X, but this only reduces damage, it doesn't block all the damage. Your best bet is baiting the soldiers into attacking and then getting some hits in.
You can use force abilities by holding cn_LB and pressing either cn_X or cn_A, but they have a charge time, so you might just get hit while charging it, or during the attack itself. Anyway once both groups are dead, head west to the event for a scene. Afterward another event will be west of you, it's a battle. North of that battle is another battle, and there was only one guy in it for me, so this is the ideal place to get the achievement. Just mash cn_B and you should kill him before you run out of AP.

Fight the enemies west of you and then head south, you'll see a blue light, which is a save point. For some reason they aren't on the map. Save, and then head up the stairs south of you. After some scenes, you'll be in control of someone new. Head north for an event. You can simply mash cn_B to kill everyone, Kirika is quite strong. If you need to, you can hold cn_LB and press cn_A to use her Heal force. After you press the button select a character to heal. After a bunch of scenes, you'll be in a battle and have control of Yuma. The enemies will not be a threat, just mash cn_B.
After a bunch of scenes, you'll have a boss battle of sorts. Its’ life bar is above its head. The game will tell you about breaking. As you hit an enemy the targeting cursor will change colors until it is red, then they will enter break status. They take much more damage in this state and generally are stunned and can't be attacked. Pressing cn_Y is your break attack. Normal attacks (with cn_B) generally won't do any break damage at all. On casual, you will likely kill it during the first break. As for the fight itself, he uses the claw and tail attacks you'd expect from a dragon. He can also use an AoE fire attack, and his last attack is spitting fire on the ground that burns, that you need to walk out of. On casual the fight is quite easy, you can just mash cn_Y until he breaks, and then kill him. Kirika will heal if necessary. You'll get an achievement for breaking the boss.

During the scene in a bedroom you'll acquire the trait "Dragon Believer". These traits are related to an achievement, you need 100 of them. Many come from the story, others come from night events, quests or conversation scenes. I'll cover them as they come. Note that not all traits are tied to one person, you will get traits that will unlock for multiple people, but it still counts as one for the achievement. You'll unlock another trait called "Seagull Inn Visitor" during the scenes. Here in town you'll find your party members, and you can talk to them. Once a chapter they will give you some kind of prompt, and answering correctly will boost their affection for you. You need to boost their affection to get their ending, so it's important to answer these right. You're actually only given a small amount of time to answer them, so if you're not ready with the answer you might fail. As a result, only talk to them if you're ready to do the prompt, or you need to for an event. When the opus is about to end, we'll do the rounds and talk to each character and get the prompt correct. Some prompts only occur after certain story events, so doing it at the end of the opus is much simpler.

Once you regain control, head forward and you'll see a guy by a bunch of barrels, to the left of the barrels is a glowing light, this is a search point. You want to check these because they have materials. You need 200 for an achievement. There's way more than 200, and most materials are monster drops anyway. Still, I would pick up any you come across, some of them are used in useful recipes. All the orange dots on the map are people you can talk to, but they don't provide any story stuff or the like. Head south and you'll see a chest on the left with an Avian Talon. Now head north and when you go down the stairs, you'll find a save point to the right next to the stairs. Talk to the girl with a hood north of the save point for a tutorial on weather. Basically different weather means different enemies and items. It's a mechanic that won't matter to you much unless you do quests (more on that when they become available).

The east exit is closed off, the north exit leads to Castlefront Street, but all you can do here is check the search points for materials. So talk to the lady with the witch hat by the save point. She's a shop, though we don't have a ton of gold to buy stuff from her right now. I'd grab a Marga Stone though. These teleport you back to town. The game never has any fast travel systems. You have to walk all the way to your goal every single time, and then you either have to use a Marga Stone to return to Marga, or walk all the way back. It sucks. Always make sure you have at least one Marga Stone before you leave town. It will save you incredible amounts of time.

Now talk to the event guy. You'll get a tutorial about his alchemy services and he'll give you an item called Vital, which is an aspect. You can use Rapple here to make aspects with the materials you get from enemies and harvest points. Not much we can make now though. Now head back to the inn. You'll get an event once you get there, and Sonia will unlock the "Dragoneer Caretaker" trait. Once you regain control you'll have a few new things to play with, so let's talk about them. The first is aspects. These are things you can slot into your weapons to get boosts. If you select aspects you'll see your weapon at the top, and the slots you can put aspects into below it. Right now the only one you have is the Vital you were given earlier. You can equip it on the character you plan to use, it boosts their max HP. You'll get many more, but for now there's not a lot you can do with the menu. As an aside, you'll see a rank by the weapon. This is the rank of the "tuning". You see, you don't get new weapons for your characters, you get tunings. These tunings give different kinds of stats, and usually each tuning has a special boost or ability they give. We need to get a tuning to rank 30 for each character, so don't equip any other ones when we get them until you get a rank 30 weapon for them. The next thing to cover is the bond diagram. When you select the option in the menu, you'll be presented with a screen that shows all 5 characters, with lines in between them. Basically, each character equips a trait, and the traits of the people who are connected give different bond effects. Selecting different titles gives different bonds. Each bond type has 3-4 effects that can be triggered when you're hit, when you attack, and other conditions. The effects are called "resonances" and heal, do damage, cause ailments, etc. The black dots under the bond indicate it's level. The higher it is, the more likely the resonance effects are to occur. There's an achievement to use enough resonances, but this will come naturally, most likely in this Opus so it's nothing to sweat over. As for how you should arrange yours, you don't have a lot of titles so there's not much you can do. If you're interested in reading more about it right now, you can check this link.

The combinations generally depend on the color of the title and the characters linked. I'd just play around with it until all 4 characters have a bond between them that is not a red circle with a black star symbol in it, as that will cause negative effects like stat reductions and the like. While we're talking about this, go into the item menu and cn_RB over to the last tab, which are costumes. Equip Sonia/Kirika/Excella's maid outfit to unlock the "Shining Maid" traits for them, and equip Yuma's and Jinna's idol outfit to unlock the "Superstar" trait for them. You can use whatever costume you want now. With all that out of the way, talk to the two people with a ... bubble over their heads (they show up on the map) and talk to them. These are usually short skits that will flesh out the characters a bit more. Some of them will unlock traits, and that's the main reason you should talk to these people. I won't mention them because their appearance is random. Much like search points, just check them when you see them. If you're interested, here's what you can find from the search points.

Downtown

Cheer Carrot
Fishwort Mushroom
Spirit Seed
Fishwort Mushroom

Castlefront Street

Cheer Carrot
Bull Balm

When you're ready take the east exit in Marga - Downtown to reach Windia Grasslands - Origin Field. For each area I'll list the enemies, and then the materials you can get from search points.

Windia Grasslands - Origin Field

Crawler
Goblin
Cassowary

Heal Mint
Cheer Carrot
Happyberry
Bull Balm
Rosso Tomato
Windia Swallowtail

Some notes on this area to begin. You'll see enemies out on the field, when you touch one, enemies will spawn and the fight will start. When you approach an enemy from behind, you have a chance for an advantageous encounter, which is like surprising/ambushing an enemy in many other RPGs. The enemies won't act for awhile, giving you some time to blitz them to do a ton of damage. You need to do this 10 times for an achievement, so try to do it when you get the chance. It's won't take long at all to get 10 advantageous encounters for the achievement, but you should still try for it anyway because it makes the battles easier. Enemies seem to have a pretty wide vision cone, you basically have to come up behind them from far away to do it, as they usually detect you on their sides pretty well. If enemies ambush you from behind it's a risky encounter, and your party will not move for a time, maybe 5-6 seconds or so. Needless to say, avoid this. Unfortunately the game seems a little bugged when it comes to this, I've gotten many risky encounters just charging an enemy head on, for reasons the game never seems to explain. As for the battles themselves, you can generally just mash cn_B until everything dies. You can use forces as well. You regenerate MP by attacking (or using items). I would generally stick to your normal attack, though. Generally speaking I use Yuma in regular encounters, and Sonia in boss fights. Sonia's break attack is quite fast and will break an enemy very quickly, so she's ideal for boss fights. Her damage is lacking though, which is why I use Yuma in regular encounters. Sadly the only way to switch characters is to go into the menu, choose party, and then move the character you want to control into the leader position. Kind of sucks. As for exploration, I will point out the chests (since they are always in a specific spot) along with anything else of note. Make sure to grab any search points you come across as you go as well. As for fighting, I generally fight every group I come across unless they are a couple levels below me.

Follow the south wall east until you come to a chest. You'll see it's a regular wooden chest, these usually give you easy to find items (usually healing items or buffing items). The other kind of chest looks more ornate and is red, these have the good shit, rare materials or traits usually. This chest has a Potion. To the northwest, north of the rocks, is a chest with a Muscle Apple. Take the east exit.

Windia Grasslands - Fountain Valley

Goblin
Crawler
Frogger

Heal Mint
Happyberry
Cheer Carrot
Bull Balm
Fishwort Mushroom
Muscle Pumpkin
Rosso Tomato
Windia Swallowtail
Spirit Seed

Head east to the northeast alcove to find a chest with the "Bright n' Cheerful" trait. You can go to the southeast part of the area (with a campfire) and you can check the campfire for a tutorial on camping. When you camp you can make alchemy items (aspects and healing stuff) or rest to recover HP/MP. You can also try to invite people to night events. These are the main method for increasing affection. There's no gauge for this, but based on an aspect you can make post-game, charaters you fight battles with gain affection. After you've fought enough battles, they will agree to a night event. However there's no reason to do them here. If they agree to a date, you'll have to hoof it back to town to do the date anyway. The only thing to use camps for is to rest to recover, or to make an aspect you're farming materials for. Return to the first area and go through the north exit.

Windia Grasslands - Breeze Field

Hobogoblin
Breedershell

Heal Mint
Bull Balm
Cheer Carrot
Happyberry
Windia Swallowtail
Fishwort Mushroom
Rosso Tomato

Follow the north wall to a chest with an Ether. Continue following the wall around until you get to an exit and go south, and follow this wall. When you see a tree to the left, check the chest by it for a Sand Shell. Now go to the event for a boss battle. The game will tell you about how to transform Yuma into a dragon (hold cn_LB and press cn_RB). The dragon form has a normal attack and a break attack. It's obviously quite strong, but it constantly drains MP. When his MP hits zero, he will go berserk and attack everyone (it's like the "confuse" status you see in many RPGs). He also has a chance to do this when he is hit, and it also seems to happen randomly sometimes. You don't have any remedy for him going into berserk, which mean you have to kill all the enemies while getting slapped around by a dragon in order to win, which is as hard as it sounds. So transform to get an achievement and then do it again to return to human form.

This boss does much more damage than anything you've fought so far, so you'll need to be a little more careful than usual. Still, Kirika should heal anyone who gets low. Use Sonia, use break attacks until he breaks, and then use Million Thrusts if you have it. When he gets back up, repeat. The main goal in battle to break enemies as often as possible, because when they're on the ground being broken, they aren't attacking. It gives your healers a chance to heal anyone who might be low. Once it's dead, check your inventory. You want 4 Goblin Kukri from Hobgoblins, and 1 Large Shell from Breedershells for a quest later. Head back to Marga. Now head to Castlefront Street and go the event marker. After the scene return to Downtown and go the event marker south of you. After the scene talk to him again and then a third time to see the tuning menu, this is where you can change tunings. You can also use the score items to increase the rank of a tuning. As I said we want to get a Tuning to level 30, so don't switch them until you do. It unlocks 3 tunings for that character, and you need all of them for an achievement. Head to the inn for an event, then head to the event marker by the east exit for a scene, then exit to Windia Grasslands - Origin Plains, head east to Fountain Valley and head toward the southeast exit to the campfire/save point. You'll see a guy in green by the save point, we'll be doing a bunch of quests of his throughout the game for tunings, though he doesn't have one right now. Talk to Liselotte. Take the east exit now.

Ladlum Caverns - Buried Ruins

Dragonfly
Marasmius
Statue

Kaiser Shroom
Heal Mint
Fishwort Mushroom
Muscle Pumpkin
Mana Fragment

Some notes about the monsters here. Statues are highly resistance to physical damage, but take much more damage when in break status, which Sonia can quickly put them into with her cn_Y attack. So basically much like the breedershells, except even higher defense. The marasmius in this area love to cast spells, and there's an achievement for breaking 30 spell casts. The easiest way to do this is abuse Sonia's multi-hit cn_Y attack. When you see them casting, start mashing the break attack button. If you want, you can even hold cn_up and press cn_X to order your allies to not attack, and then farm spell breaks. However, so early in the game such a thing isn't necessary, you'll have plenty of chances to do it. It's something you'll do all the time against bosses. Just make sure to do it when you have the chance. The statues also cast spells, but seem to do it much less often than the marasmius. Follow the path until it goes south, and then turns east. Go east to the wall and then south to find a chest with a Water Bottle then head north to the wall, and go west to find a chest with a Shield of Darkness. Now take the east exit.

Ladlum Caverns - Howling Hole

Marasmius
Green Paste
Dragonfly
Statue
Orc

Muscle Pumpkin
Mana Fragment
Heal Mint
Fishwort Mushroom
Kaiser Shroom

You'll see an event ahead, and an obvious boss fight, a Flare Dragon. Same process applies, break it, spam Million Thrusts repeat. Should be able to drop it during the second break. It drops a Drake Scale. Our objective is complete, but we might as well scour the area, and we can also get an easy achievement out of the way here. First follow the south wall east to come to a chest with the "Boy at Heart" trait. Now look at the full map (press cn_Y to cycle through the map types). You'll see 2 big red dots. The northeast one is a level ~35 manticore that will just bend you over his knee and spank ya. The game uses these disgusting strong monsters to make sure you don't visit areas before you're supposed to. We want the one in the northwest corner. It's an Orc. He has a ton of health compared to the damage you do, which makes him ideal for a 99 hit combo. There's probably a lot of ways you can do 99 hits, but they are all more complicated than what our girl Sonia can do, which is basically just our boss fight strategy. Command your allies to not attack (hold cn_up and press cn_X) so they don't mess it up, and then engage the Orc. Get behind him and mash cn_Y until your AP is gone, then use Million Thrusts. Your AP will recover while the move occurs, and you won't lose the combo. Then mash cn_Y again until your AP is gone, and repeat until you have 99 hits.

In this area with the orc is a chest, it has the "Soothing Girl" trait. Now we can leave, but first grab 1 Statue Fragment from the Statues and 2 Paste Core from the Green Paste enemies for a quest if you don't have them already. You'd have to walk all the way through the Ladlum Caverns AND the Windia Grasslands, which is why we grabbed a Marga Stone. Use it to return back to town. Buy a few more Marga Stones since you should have some cash now, then head to the inn. Head to the castle in Castlefront Street for an event. You'll get the "Power to Protect" trait during it. Head to the Downtown area and go to the two events here. After talking to Liselotte you'll be told about quests, and you'll see there's a ton on the map. If you press cn_RT, you can see all the quests you've accepted. The ! is the main quest, the rest are side quests. The icon tells you what type of quest they are. A green bag means getting materials, a red monster head means killing an enemy. I don't bother doing the quests. I was doing them and then in chapter 4 I got a quest that required an enemy that only spawned during a thunderstorm. I slept 30 times and still didn't get a thunderstorm, and that's when I flipped a table and said screw this shit. Feel free to do them if you like though, some of them even have decent rewards. However, the only quests we need to do are Rapple's and Fernando's (the guy in green we saw earlier). Rapple's unlock new aspect recipes, and Fernando's give tunings, which you need all of for an achievement. What I usually do is wait until the end of a chapter, and then do their quests. That way every area is open and I can access anything I might need.

In town you'll have a scene about someone in trouble, they can wait. Of special interest is Fromage, who can be found in Castlefront Street next to a Lucky Egg. It has nothing to do with achievements, but if you want to fill out the monster book, this is the best way to do it. As an aside, if you want the monster book entries for monsters, you either get it from an item drop that shares the name of the monster it came from, or via this Lucky Egg. The drop rate for the item (hexagon shaped) seems stupidly low, so this Lucky Egg seems to be a better alternative. It costs a lot of money though, so even if you want to mess with this, now is not a good time.

Now that we're back in town, let's talk more about night events. As I said after you've fought enough battles, they'll go on a night event with you (seems to be about 10-15). During a night event, they may have a timed question for you, just like they do once per chapter. Here's the fun part : they have a bunch of possible prompts, and which one you'll get is random. Usually the first one or two night events won't have a prompt, and then almost every night event after that will. If you check the affection page you'll find a link to these random prompts. Basically how it works is that the night event starts, the characters exchange nicities, and then the text window will appear and then disappear. The next text box is what you want to pay attention to. Match it to the answer I have on the affection page, and you'll have the right answer before the prompt even comes up. Note that failing a prompt doesn't mean you're screwed, it'll just take a little longer to get their ending.

Sometimes when a night event ends, they'll ask you to go on a date. The date is much simpler, you find them after you wake up and invite them and there will be heart icons on the map, you go to the spot and you'll have a scene. After 3 scenes the date ends. Generally speaking after 4 dates or so you'll get a trait that means their ending is unlocked. It has a heart icon. Sadly Jinas and Excella do not have a trait that signifies this, so you have to do 4-5 dates and then go to the final battle and check if they have it. As an aside, Excella and Jinas will give you an item after the first date that YOU MUST NOT USE, as it will void the only truly missable achievement in the game. As a result I wouldn't bother doing night events with them until post-game, that way you have less chance of goofing up. As a general rule, I would do night events as often as you feel like. If you do them once or twice an opus you will likely have the first 3 maxed before you finish the game and be partway on the next 3. Post-game there is an aspect that boosts affection gain from battles, so that will help us finish everyone off. When you do these night events, make sure to check for new ... conversations, and quests from Rapple and Fernando. You'll also get an achievement for your first night event.

First off, you'll notice there's a bunch of imperial soldier running around. There's going to be multiple times during the story where the usual enemies in an area will be replaced by imperial soldiers, which is why you don't see any of the enemies above running around. Once the story stuff is over, the enemies will revert. To start make your way toward the event for a fight. Rinna sucks in melee combat, so mashing cn_B won't be particularly effective. Instead use her force abilities and stay back. Once they're dead you'll have a scene, and you'll get Yuma's trait "Innocent Boy". Next up is a fight, and you'll be able to use a B.A.N.D. session. Simply press cn_RB and then press A to confirm. You'll get an achievement for it. Needless to say I'm just calling it BAND, my . key doesn't deserve the torture of B.A.N.D.

Let's get an achievement out of the way now. It's not permanently missable, but we eventually lose the ability to earn it and have to do some farming to get the ability to do it post-game, so why not do it now and save ourselves the extra effort? Head for the northeast exit, kill both enemy parties on the way. Head to the next area and then enter another battle, you should get one bar of BAND in the process. Tell everyone not to attack, kill all but one enemy, and then switch to Yuma. Use Forces until his MP is really low (but keep at least one MP). Switch to dragon form and don't attack, and then when Yuma goes down to zero MP you'll have a short scene and then you'll be forced onto a different character. This means Yuma went berserk. Now do a BAND session to calm the dragon and get an achievement.

Now that we have BAND to stop Yuma from going berserk in dragon form, you can actually use it relatively safely now. However since you have to build the BAND bar up, I wouldn't really use it for random encounters, but it's an option for boss fights. You can use Sonia to get them almost broken, then switch to Yuma and go into dragon form and do some great damage, then transform back and switch back to Sonia. Or you can just stick to Sonia, since switching characters is such a pain in the butt. As for BAND, you can go into the menu and choose who is the center. The song does different things based on who is the center. For example if Kirika is the center, your chance for critical hits goes up and your attacks never miss. Very useful when facing an enemy much higher level than you, since your attack will usually miss. You need 10 BAND sessions for the achievement. The easiest way to do this is to wait until 1 or 2 enemies is left and then start a BAND session. Kill the enemies quickly and you won't use too much of the BAND bar, so you do it ten times fairly easily. It's another thing you'll use way more than 10 times though, so you don't really need to sweat it. Southeast of the northeast exit is a chest with a Spirit Seedling. Take the northeast exit now.

Elmore Greatwood - Elmore Springs

Sharpfin
Lizard Man
Daisy

Elmore Water

Go straight north for a chest with a Melt Bottle. In the southwest corner of the area is a chest with a Soothing Bark. You'll probably run into some Elite Swordsman, there is an achievement for breaking their block 30 times. The process is mostly the same as breaking enemies that are casting, with the only difference being you want to wait until they raise their shield, then mash cn_Y. Return to Forest of Giants and take the northwest exit.

Elmore Greatwood - Creek Path

Crawler
Daisy
Lantern
Psilocybe

Heal Mint
Dynamo Mushroom
Elmore Water

Here you'll find more elite swordsman. Head to the alcove in the northeast corner for a chest with a Heal Blessing, then head to the southwest corner for a chest with the "Wired" trait. Now we can head to the event, make sure you save on the way as a boss is coming up. At the event you'll have a boss fight. The game tells you about breaking body parts, but you don't need to worry too much about it. Just break him often as you do all bosses. If you catch him casting he breaks even faster. If you want to be efficient about it, you can stay away from him until he starts casting and them spam break attacks, but I generally just spam them regardless. He does about 200-300 damage a strike but you'll break him so often he won't be attacking much. You get a Sea Score for beating him. Afterward exit Elmore Greatwood, with the catch being that Sonia and Rinna are KO. Put Excella and Jinas in your party and save, then make your way out. The enemies are different as the soldiers are finally gone.

When you reach the exit, you'll have a boss fight. It's super obnoxious, and none of the characters you have are particularly good, so he'll likely wipe the floor with you. He uses a ton of super fast sword attacks and moves around a ton. I couldn't put Yuma in my party when the fight started, but once I lost and retried, I could. You might want to do the same. Swap Yuma in, let Jinas die (who is probably level 2 and will do so easily), go into dragon form, and you'll be able to take most of his health down before the form ends, if you don't beat him outright. After that start a BAND session and finish him off. You'll get a Shining Score for winning. If you want to try it without losing the process is the same, you need to break him and then go to town. Your new character Agnum is awful for this, his break attack takes so long that the boss will likely move out of the way. You'll probably have more luck using someone like Kirika, since she doesn't have to chase him around like the melee characters do. You'll get your full party back as well. If you followed my initial strategy you'll get an achievement for winning a battle with someone dead (thanks Jinas!).

Apparently you can't Marga Stone out, so walk back to town. After a bunch of scenes, you'll be in front of Burroughs. Don't go to the inn quite yet, as that will end this "Opus" AKA chapter. So now is the time to do anything you haven't done, including answer everyone's prompts for the opus.

Kirika (Downtown, east of Rapple) - "Nothing, really. I just wanted to talk to you."
Sonia (Downtown, up stairs by save point) - "I don't feel comfortable here yet..."
Rinna (Downtown, southern part of map, east of Lyle - "You don't need to thank me."
Agnum (Castlefront street, by the south exit) - "I'm feeling like fish today."
Excella (Downtown, up stairs by Rapple) - "I'm ok. Are you sure you're fine?"
Jinas (Downtown, east of the inn) - "You look worse than me, Jinas."

We have two quests to do. Rapple gives "New Cauldron". You need to make a Pressure Cauldron, which you can find in the item creation menu. You need 1 Statue Fragment, 2 Paste Cores, and 1 Large Shell, which you should have gotten already. The other is "Unique Ensemble" from Fernando, he wants 4 Goblin Kukri, which the Goblin or Hobgoblin enemies drop, again you should have it. Do any night events you have available and then you're ready to go. I kept a save before the end of each opus, but you probably don't need to bother. When you're ready, head to the inn for an event. You'll get Agnum's trait "Big Brother" during. You'll finish Opus 2 and get an achievement.

Talk to Primula and then talk to Liselotte for her event. Alfriede will appear and you'll unlock the grimoire. Basically, you use it to create dungeons using sigils (you may have a few from enemies by now). They usually have 2 floors, and a teleporter to the next floor. The 3rd floor is a boss fight. It's not something to worry about now, but eventually we'll be diving into it to get some tunings for an achievement, and it'll also ideal for leveling up, because the enemies scale to your level. The items Excella and Jinas give you are sigils that can be used in the grimoire. That's why we wait to do night events with them, so we don't use it by accident. Talk to Rinna, you'll get the "Flower Shop" trait for her. Head to Castlefront Street and Fromage and Agnum will have something to say. Head to Elmore Greatwood - Forest of Giants. You'll see the event in the first area, which is just an orc. Slaughter it, the other big red dot enemy is a Gryphon, you'll want to farm it until you get an Avian Talon. To respawn it after you kill it go to a different area (like Elmore Springs) and then come back. I usually fight all the big dot enemies I come across, aside from the really high level ones designed to block you from areas the game doesn't want you to go to yet. You can usually take an enemy 20 levels or so higher, beyond that is rough because most attacks will miss. The process is the same as bosses though, break them and then get in as much damage as you can. Once you have an Avian Talon return to Marga. I checked for night events here, and I was able to get my first date around now, so you probably should too. You'll get an achievement for your first date.

As I said previously, since we have BAND and can cure Yuma going berserk, so we want to use Yuma for awhile in battle. There's an achievement for finishing 100 battles with Yuma in dragon form. The simplest way to do it is to change into dragon form when there is only one or two enemies left and finish the fight quick so you don't use too much MP. You should never go into berserk state, but just in case you can use BAND to fix it. Also, you can skip the dragon summon scene by pressing cn_start, which will save you a ton of time. Another thing to work on that is easy is to do a BAND session with each character as the center, again you can use it right before the battle ends. We can't get the achievement now because we need every character as the center and Sonia can't be a center and we don't have our full party, but get everyone else now. I use Yuma as the center otherwise, because he boosts physical damage.

There's a chest in the northwest corner with the "Brisk Wind" trait. There's a chest in the southwest alcove with a Detox Bottle. Of note in this area is the Death Beast in the north area. It's a rare monster (rare manticore). If you can beat it, you'll get an achievement. To beat it, you want to get its attention and then move behind it so it turns away from your party. Then you want to bait it into attacking (or casting a spell) and then move to its side and hit it with some break attacks. The fight will be quite long due to its HP and how often you miss, but it can be done. If not don't sweat it, you'll find many rare monsters as you play. If you fight all the big dot enemies you see as I suggest you'll fight plenty. Either way, take the northeast exit.

You'll see the event fight here, but first get the chest northeast of the campfire with a Mandragora. Now go to the event for a boss fight. She works a lot like the boss in Elmore Greatwood did, she has a lot of fast attacks and can be hard to keep track of. You can either use Yuma's dragon form or use Sonia to break her. She breaks very easily, so you can use Sonia to take her on fairly easily. Once she has about 1/3 left, she'll summon a clone. As far as I can tell, you need to concentrate on the clone that can be broken, as the other one doesn't seem to break at all. Kill the clones (there's 2 or 3) and then she won't summon more, and you can finish her. You'll get a Sky Score from her. Return to Marga. There's a couple quests to keep an eye out for. The first is "Butterfly Dream Cantata" from Fernando. You need 2 Spirit Mistletoe, which you can get from the Daisy enemies in Elmore Greatwood - Elmore Springs. You need 2 more for the next quest, so pick up for. The next is "A Gift for Someone" for Rapple, which requires 2 Spirit Mistletoe (4 total for both quests). Finally the last one is "A Jiggly Incident" for the Mellow Old Lady on the bench by Kirika. While not directly related to achievements, the next quest she has gives a very hard to get material that will be useful for multiple aspects we want to make later. All you need to do is head outside Marga and you'll see a spot to start a battle. You fight a ton of pastes, but none of them seem to do much. I went into dragon form with a full MP bar and went to town on 'em.

Speaking of Rapple, I'd make a Break Up aspect with him. It makes your break attacks break enemies quicker. You need an Avian Talon (from the Griffon in Elmore Greatwood - Forest of Giants) and 3 Goblin Kukri (pretty much every goblin enemy). Put it on Sonia to help her break faster. Now we head off to Ladlum Caverns. Head to the event and then head to the event again, you'll get Agnum's trait "Anything but Ghosts". Head to the event marker two more times and then you'll have a boss fight. The usual process works here. Sonia can break him very easily. You'll get a Sea Score when you win. You'll return to Marga, go to the inn. After the event, you'll be sent to Djingharna Ruins. We actually want to do something before we move on the story. Head back to Ladlum Caverns where we just fought the boss, you'll find two groups of wraiths on the way. Either the drop rate is obnoxious or you can't steal Muting Cloths from them, so kill both groups and then zone out and back in to respawn them. You need 8 total. Once that's done head to town for the conversations.

Kirika - "I'm not angry"
Sonia - "Do you want me to go look for him?"
Rinna - "I want you to like me."
Agnum - "Yours of course, Agnum."
Excella - "I want to get stronger."
Jinas - "He does seem cheerful and reliable."

Once that's done head to Djingharna Ruins.

Djingharna Ruins - Noontide Garden

Floating Octo

Go forward to the fork and go west, you'll come across the Floating Octo enemy here. Basically what you want to do is switch to Rinna and use Steal Dive on the Floating Octos to try and steal Electric Suckers from them. You can use her Mine Now! force to steal MP when you run out. It's also a potential drop when you kill them. You can either steal from them all and then run away and do it again, or steal from them and then kill them, then rezone to respawn them. To run run away move away until you see the outline of a circle and walk into it until you flee. Once you have 3, you have two choices. You can either return to Marga and make Steal Attack and put that on Sonia and then go back to the ruins and steal the other 9 you need, or simply stay until you have 12 and then leave. Either way, once you have 12 make 4 Steal Attacks and put them on each character in your party. It makes every regular and break attack have a chance to steal, and will get you a ton of materials, on top of being easier to use than Steal Dive, since you don't have to worry about MP. With that done return to the Noontide Garden. Get the chest with Panacea Cream in the southwest corner. Avoid the event and take the northwest exit.

South of the northeast corner is a chest with Magic Nectar, and under the exit in the northwest corner is a chest with the "Mood Maker" trait. With that return to Noontide Garden. We have to fight 3 bosses so you may want to save just in case, but you shouldn't have too many problems with it. Head to the event. The first boss is quite easy. He moves rather slowly and is broken easily, so move behind him and spam break attacks. When he goes down blitz him, and do it again when he gets up. You'll get a Magnetized Metal from him. You'll have a scene and then another boss fight, same as last time. You'll get a sea score from it. You'll have a scene, and then a third boss. This one is new, and much more annoying. It moves around a lot, but most of its attacks hit enemies next to and behind it, so it's hard to spam break attacks. Still, the fight goes the same way as the previous. Break him, blitz him, and repeat. You'll have to break him 5-6 times, but he'll go down. His attacks don't seem to do too much damage, so it's not like you're likely to die, he will just interrupt your attacks often. In hindsight it might be easier to use dragon form to take him down. You'll get an earth score from him. You'll have another scene, and you'll get the Resounding Voice trait for Sonia. Another scene will occur and you'll get the trait for Yuma called Berserker. After another scene, Opus 3 will end, and 4 will begin.

Before we start, you should be checking the Mellow Old Lady on the bench by Kirika every time she has a quest. The one you're looking for is called "Grandma Forgot". You have to go to Elmore Greatwood - Forest of Giants and check the northwest corner by the exit for an event circle, which is a fight. You may have to use the northwest exit and then come back for the circle to spawn. The fight can be quite punishing, a ton of enemies that can cast spells will start spawning part-way through the fight and you can be overwhelmed. The fight ends when the dragon dies, so use your dragon form to kill it quickly. You'll get Egg Pouch X 2 for finishing it. Egg Pouches are quite rare. They are pretty rare drops from the different types of egg enemies, and even fighting them is quite rare to begin with. Doing this quest is much simpler, so do it every time you see it. She may offer the quest for killing pastes, so if you see that just decline. When you're doing night events I'd make sure to keep an eye on her. The other thing to keep in mind is that my first level 30 tuning occurred in this opus, which unlocks an achievement.

So as a note from now on, when characters do hit level 30 with their tuning, they will unlock 3 tunings, one of which has concerto in the name. Equip that one. The special ability of concerto's is that they boost the effectiveness of aspects that are a certain color. The higher the level gets, the bigger the boost. So the quicker you switch over the better.

You'll get the "Inferno Chef" trait for Agnum during it, along with Kirika's "Carrot Hater" trait. Head to the castle for an event, then go to Lyle for another. Now head to Elmore Greatwood - Elmore Springs. Head to the event for a fight with a Troll, which works exactly like an orc. Return to Marga and talk to Lyle, then head to the castle. Time to roll out. It'll be a longer trip than usual, so stock up on healing stuff and such. Head to Sleepy Hollow.

In the middle of the area you'll see a circle, you'll find a chest in the west side with the "Hero" trait. South of the northwest exit is a chest with a High Ether. Now take the northwest exit.

Sleepy Hollow - Church Ruins

Dark Crystal
Dark Spore
Archer Skeleton
Figher Skeleton

Hollow Grass
Mana Crystal
Shiny Moss

Go to the event for a boss fight. The fight is much the same, except he doesn't break quite as easily. You'll get a sea score for beating him. Take the northwest exit.

Gaelritz Prison - Gate of No Return

You may remember this is the beginning of the game. There's no search points to worry about here, just a few chests. The enemies will be mostly imperials and stay that way. Head north again, and you'll face an enemy like a boss we fought recently. He's hella hard to break and does a lot of damage compared to the boss, but shouldn't be too much trouble. He turns slowly so I'd move behind him and spam break attack. Take the north exit.

Gaelritz Prison - Cell Block 1

Follow the path north and west, then go south instead of going to the outer ring to find a chest with the "Capricious" trait. Now follow the outer ring around to the east side of the inner ring, and in the south corner you'll find a chest with a Dark Score. Then take the southeast exit.

Gaelritz Prison - Underground Cell Block

Follow the path around to the east side, then head into the dead end room to the east to find a chest with a Tough Buff. Continue following the path to right before the event, continue west to find a chest with a Glacial Breath. With that you can head to the event. After that head into the door in front of you. You'll have a boss fight, and it's quite obnoxious. You'll have a new boss and one we've fought many times before. Ignore the repeat boss and go for the new one. The main objective is to follow him around as he teleports and wait for him to cast. When he does he will be easily broken, and you can get some damage in then. He recovers quickly. Repeat until he dies. The main problems are the enemies the repeat boss summons, and the special attack the new boss has. The first time it will have a cutscene. He will summon lightning down on top of himself, and lightning will shoot out in 4 places and spin around. It can wreck your whole party quite easily, so when you see him doing it (he always does it in the middle of the arena) you'll want to move away and stay out of the lightning so at the very least, you can get survive. As an alternative, you can use the BAND song Prelude to Spring you got recently. It reduces damage taken so it can make it easier to survive. As always you can use dragon form to make it simpler. You'll get a Dark Score when you win. You'll have a bunch of scenes, then head to the castle in Marga. Now head to the inn for an event.

Head to Glaucus Falls (north exit of Elmore Greatwood - Creek Path). Go to the event for a fight. He's very easy to break, so the fight isn't hard at all. Use a Marga Stone to return to town, you'll have a scene. The next part is the end of Opus 4, so let's clean up. First off talk to everyone and give the answer.

Kirika : "You'll get used to it eventually."
Sonia : "I train every day."
Rinna : "I feel exactly the same way."
Agnum : "Yeah, ghosts don't exist!"
Marion : "You'll get used to it in no time."
Excella : "I feel better after seeing you."
Jinas : "How'd you know I'd be able to control it?"

As for quests, there's a few. Fernando's is "Heroic Anthem March". You need to give him 1 Giant Fist. The Troll in Elmore Greatwood - Elmore Springs can drop it, you may have one already. If not grab one from him. While you're there, you need 5 Elmore Water, so grab that if you don't have it. That is what Rapple's first quest "The Best Water" requires. While we're here return to Sleepy Hollow - Church Ruins. In the northeast corner you'll find an Archdemon. You want to steal from him until you have 12 Demon Fruit, then you can leave. Just attack him until you get a steal then run. Rapple's second one is called "Good Medicine: Needles". You'll probably need to sleep a few times at the inn to get the 2nd one to show up. You need 5 Emperor Cactus. The best way to get these that I've found is heading to Clavalle Crags - Thirsting Wastes and checking the 2 search points by the entrance, then zoning back into Ladlum Caverns and then checking again. When you get to Clavalle Crags, you'll have a fight against a ton of the crystal type enemies. Use dragon form and BAND and go to town. If you let them stack up they'll be throwing spells around like crazy and things might get out of hand, so using the dragon form will help avoid this. Once you have the Emperor Cactus, head back to town and finish that quest. You can now make Image Training, a white color aspect that can be equipped on party members not in your combat party so they get experience too. This is important because they also get experience for their tuning, so the characters you aren't using will work toward rank 30 on their tunings too. You probably won't have enough Egg Pouches to make the 5 needed (you'll get another character in the next Opus), but make Image Training and equip them as you get enough Egg Pouches to make them.

When you're ready return to Clavalle Crags. Go to Silent Badlands and go to the event for a boss fight we've done before. He actually seems easier this time, but I don't know. He didn't move around as much and was easier to break. You'll get an Earth Score. You'll have some scenes, then you need to return to Marga, you won't be able to use a Marga Stone. As you go you'll get a few scenes. When you get to Marga you'll get a scene, and the trait "Heir of the Storm" for Sonia. Then you'll have a boss fight, the boss from the start of the game. It is much stronger now, and does silly amounts of damage. It'll start by jumping to the end of the bridge behind you and then charging some fire, I would try and get to it so you can break it, but it's hard to do. Use dragon form or Prelude to Spring if needed. Since it does so much damage it's quite imperative that you break it as often as possible. You'll get an earth score for winning. You'll have a ton of scenes, and you'll get the "Powerful Feelings" trait for Yuma. The Opus will now end, and we're off to Opus 5.

As usual you'll save at Opus end, and a bunch of scenes will ensure. As you can guess from the scenes and the message afterward, Yuma will no longer berserk in dragon form, meaning he is now quite the force to be reckoned with. On top of being stronger, most of the dragon form attacks now have a big AoE, meaning you can slaughter groups of enemies super easily now. The only catch is that the moveset can be hard to use because he hovers, but once you get used to it, it's silly strong. More good news comes in Sonia getting her Armonic so she can be a part of BAND songs, so once we get the last character we can get the achievement. When you're ready head to the Ulde Desert.

Ulde Desert - Ancient Graveyard

Burning Peppermint
Sea Remnant
Ulde Scorpion

Ruby Crystal
Hell Hound

The event is in the first area, head there for a scene. Check the corner in the northeast area for the trait "Genius". The other chest is south of the northwest exit, it has a Bloody Claw. Now we have to move on. Return to Clavalle Crags - Silent Badlands and go northeast to the Lost Garden area.

Clavalle Crags - Lost Garden

Masked Ranger
Flare Dragon
Masked Brave

Lavar Stone
Hihiirokane
Mana Fragment

Take the northeast exit again.

Mount Glaniel - Giant's Ridge

Blastershell
Simurgh
Chimera
Imperial enemies

Soothe Sage
Mountain Stone
Melted Snow
Logos Ice

After a short conversation you'll get the "Soul Radar" trait for Kirika. Grab the chest with a Magic Apple just west of the camp, and then grab the chest in the northwest corner with the trait "Malicious". Now take the northeast exit by the camp.

Logos Tundra - Blue Cavern

Simurgh
Cave Gosoku
Gargoyle
Light Crystal

Soothe Sage
Frozemary
Hammer Banana
Melted Snow

Follow the south wall to a chest with a Gigantic Fist, and then check the alcove south of the northwest exit. It has a chest with the "Idol" trait. Now go to the event for a scene, and Rinna will get the "Ruin Geek" trait. Now take the northeast exit. You'll have a scene and Agnum will get the "Dark Hero" trait. You'll also have a boss fight which is annoying as hell. You've faced it before, and he moves around a lot again. I got tired of trying to break him and just went into dragon form with Yuma and killed him that way. You can rely on Sonia, however it's quite frustrating with how much he moves. You'll get a Shining Score for winning. You'll have a bunch of scenes, and then another boss fight. This enemy is easily broken, so the fight can be finished with Sonia. You'll get a Black Horn for winning. You'll now need to hoof it back to Ulde Desert. Though you probably don't want to walk all the way back, the next part ends the Opus, so now is the time to clean up anything and everything you might want to do, like conversations and one last round of night events. Fernando had "Flowing Capriccio" which requires 1 Fallen Tear, which you should have from the Cherub in Sharion Coast - Moonlight Bay, but if not get one now. I only had one quest from Rapple called "Alluring Glimmer", which requires 3 Devilish Candle. You should have these as well, the Charcoal in the same area as the Cherub drop them.

Kirika : I still don't really know.
Sonia : We have to stay strong.
Rinna : That's what I thought.
Agnum : Okay, thanks.
Marion : She meant you don't like hot things.
Lestin : Resting.
Excella : Why don't we think of something together?
Jinas : Okay, I'll remember.

When you're ready, return to Ulde Desert and the event will be in the same spot. You'll have a boss fight with a new enemy that is pretty annoying. The first thing to note is that the boss electrifies the floor under him, so when you stay by him to attack you'll take damage. A small amount, but it adds up. The fight is otherwise the same as most. The only thing I have to pass on is that when you see it casting, back away unless he is close to being broken. Otherwise he'll do a big AoE attack that might kill you if you've taken enough damage from the electricity. Prelude to Spring would be a good idea here. As always using dragon form will lead to a simple victory. You'll get a Sky Score for winning.

You'll have a bunch of scenes to start the Opus as usual. When you're ready head to Clavalle Crags - Thirsting Wastes and go to the event to fight a manticore, the fight is not special. With that head back to Mount Glanciel - Giant's Ridge. You'll have a scene, and Marion will get the "Pure Girl" trait. Move a bit forward and you'll have a scene, head to the camp. You'll have a scene, and then a boss fight. The enemy is easy to break, so the fight shouldn't take long at all. Afterward you'll have a bunch of scenes, and acquire the "Kidnapped Princess" trait. As you can guess, you're short one party member, so put in a replacement. Head east to Logos Tundra - Blue Cavern and then head to the event, and then take the northwest exit.

Logos Tundra - Gale Tunnel

Glacier Dragon
Gargoyle

Follow the south wall and you'll see a chest on the right with a Mana Potion. Southeast of the north exit is an alcove with a chest that has the "Eccentric" trait. Take the north exit.

Logos Tundra - Highwolf Trail

Cave Gosuku
Guard Skeleton
Hunter Skeleton
Cold Lily
Light Crystal

Hammer Banana
Mountain Stone

South of the northwest exit is an alcove with a chest that has the "Boyish" trait. In the alcove west of the northwest exit is a chest with an Elixir. Take the northwest exit.

Mount Glanciel - Platina Peak

Chimera
Silver Paste
Imperial enemies will always be here as well

Melted Snow
Mountain Stone
Frozemary

East of the northwest exit is a chest with the "Cool n' Collected" trait. Northeast of the south exit is a chest with a Sky Score. Now take the northwest exit for a boss fight. He isn't different than usual. Your main problem is you have an underleveled character in your party who will get slaughtered and you don't have your breaker. What I did was fill up Yuma's MP, go into dragon form and activate BAND, and go to town. If you run out of MP, transform back into a human and use a recovery item and go right back into it. You'll get an earth score for winning. You'll have a scene, and then get the trait "Doting Brother". Head to the inn for an event, you'll get the trait "Dragon's Joy" for Yuma. Head to the castle for an event. Exit the town for a scene. In Coral Caves we'll find the end of the Opus, along with some pain in the butt boss battles, so anything you would like to do to prepare should be done now. Stock up on healing items, make any aspects you want, and so on and so forth. Here's some aspects to consider. Make sure you read over them all before you decide what to get, there's a lot of overlap in where the materials are, so you can save yourself a few trips if you check it all now. As an aside, I'd buy the Millionaire aspect from Liselotte and equip it on someone (you can only get one). The Fusion one is also a good one for Yuma, since his concerto boosts the effectiveness. Instead of adding 20% HP and MP, it'll add 50% at max rank. You may have to do Rapple's quest to make some of these show up. His is called "Alchemy Miracle" and requires 2 Frigid Rock. You should have these, but if not you'll have to head to Coral Caves and fight the Cold Lanterns there. Fernando's quest is called "Minuet for the Future". You need 1 Glacial Breath, which you should have from a chest in Gaelritz Prison - Underground Cell Block. If not you'll have to hoof it to Logos Tundra to kill the Glacier Dragon there.

Minuet for the Future - Give 1 glacial breath - Fernando
Alchemy Miracle give 2 frigid rock - Rapple

Thief Step (Green/Nature) - This gives 10% evasion. Sonia's concerto boosts green aspects, so at max tuning rank this gives 40% evasion. Evasion doesn't work for everything, but it works for enough that it makes it much easier for her to survive. You need 2 Insect Wings from Dragonflies (Ladlum Caverns) and 2 Goblin Shoes from Goblin Thief/Ranger in the Lost Garden area.

Beckoning Incense (Green/Nature) - Chance for more enemies in a battle. Not 100% necessary but something to consider if you like grinding fights.

Lightning Strike (Dark Grey/Undead) - This boosts attack speed. It's a must for Yuma, as it boosts the attack speed of his dragon form as well. You need 3 Chipped Darkblades (from the Dark Knight enemies in Sleepy Hollow), 2 Electric Suckers (the Octos in Sleepy Hollow) and 2 Insulated Exo. The Insulated Exos are the only problem, because they come from Thunder Crawlers, which only show up in Elmore Greatwood during a thunderstorm. The Grimoire presents an easier option. Save your game, use 3 crawler crests (or as many as you have) and then look for a Thunder Crawler. If you find one, steal/run for Insulated Exos. You want one for Yuma for sure. One for Sonia would be a good idea too. Rinna doesn't need one, and I didn't bother getting one for Kirika either.

Assault Groove (Purple/Dragon) - This boosts ATK and MAG by 10%. Since Yuma's concerto boosts purple aspects, it will increase it up to 30% more, for a total of 40%. It needs one Demon Fruit (the Archdemon in Sleepy Hollow) and 1 Dragon Horn. The easiest monster with that is probably the Ahsgrimm in Clavalle Crags.

Dragon Control (Purple/Dragon - This reduces the MP drain of dragon form. So uh...pretty fucking neato. It requires a Dragon Horn (again, Ashgrimm in Clavalle Crags) and 5 Lizard Scales. The Lizard Leaders in Coral Caves drop the Lizard Scales.

Drop Up (White/Other) - This boosts drop rates. It's pretty neat to have, especially when you're hunting down crests to get a material easier or level up, but the problem is the ingredients. The Egg Pouches as you know are pretty rare. If you have Egg Hunt crests, you can use them in the grimoire to have some egg enemies, then you steal pouches from them. However if you do this make sure you get at least 1 Egg Hunt crest so you can do it later if necessary. The Eagle Eye is easily acquired from the Griffon in Forest of Giants. The Star Sand is the problem. The best place to farm them is moving between Coral Caves - Drowsy Reefs and Sharion Coast - Starlight Shores. The 2 search points in Coral Caves by the entrance and the closest search point in Starlight Shores can give this. Getting the 32 required to outfit all 4 characters with it would take quite awhile. I only got enough to make one before I gave up. I'll leave that choice to you, but I don't think it's worth it.

Here's the conversations.

Kirika - Uh, apparently, it's true...
Sonia - But that doesn't change what they've done.
Rinna - Do you want me to go?
Agnum - I like the heat.
Marion - I don't think this is what he meant.
Lestin - The Seagull Inn.
Excella - I'd rescue you, of course!
Jinas -You're not weak. You're here by my side.

When you're ready, head to Coral Cave via Sharion Coast. You'll see the event marker, head there for a boss fight against 2 bosses. This fight can be quite a struggle, so my suggestion is to set everyone to Heal First! and then go into dragon form and mash that cn_B button. The bosses will hopefully start to concentrate on you, which will let Rinna/Kirika heal you and Sonia with ease. You'll get an Earth and Sky Score when you win. You'll have another boss fight after. The boss is annoyingly in the air to start, and regular attacks will not hit it. Magic is one option, the other is to go into dragon form and hover under the boss and use a break attack, which can still hit him. 3-4 should be enough to break it, which will make it fall (it may also come down on its own). When you get it down repeat the same actions as the last fight until you win. You'll get a shining score for winning. You'll have some scenes, and then the end of the Opus.

After a bunch of scenes, you'll get the "Shining Knight" trait for Yuma. Head to Clavalle Crags - Lost Garden and go to the event for a boss fight. He is harder to break than usual, so you'll probably just want to use dragon form to kill him easily. You'll get a Shining Score when you beat him. From here go to Ulde Desert - Ancient Graveyard. Take the northwest exit.

Ulde Desert - Shattered Dam

Ruby Crystal
Hell Hound
Blaze Frogger

Malta Fruit
Burning Peppermint
Ulde Scorpion
Moon Dust

Follow the south wall all the way to the southwest exit. You'll run straight into a chest with a Demon Talisman, and then further west on the right you'll see a chest with a Heal Blessing. Now go through the southwest exit.

Ulde Desert - Blessed Oasis

Blaze Frogger
Red Paste
Salamander
Conflictor

Ulde Scorpion
Sea Remnant
Ulde Water
Burning Peppermint

Head south and you should see a chest on top of a ridge to the right, it has a Refresh Bottle. Go to the event, then camp for the night and choose rest. When you wake up, go back to the Shattered Damn area and go to the event. Next go to Clavalle Crags - Thirsting Wastes and go to the event here for a fight. Kill the soldiers and then take down the dragon. It's not too deadly but it can be hard to break, so you may just want to use dragon form. Next head to Ladlum Caverns, you'll get an event when you enter. You'll get the "Bond of Devotion" trait, and then more scenes. Run back to Marga now, you have to walk. When you get there you'll have a bunch of scenes, and unlock the "Protector of Life" trait. The next part is a long area that ends the Opus, so do the usual. Yeah, short opus.

Kirika - "It hasn't really sunk in yet..."
Sonia - "I still have a lot to learn."
Rinna - "It's thanks to you, Rinna."
Agnum - "I think the Blazing Pyromaestro is fine..."
Marion - "It's nothing. I'm all right."
Lestin - "Yeah, I think so."
Excella - "I finally can stand next to you."
Jinas - "Don't say your role is coming to an end!"

For whatever reason, Fernando has no quest in this Opus. Rapple's quest is called "Exceeding Limits". You need 1 Broken Cannon. You get them from the Shadowgear enemies in Shattered Damn, but they might not be there until we do the story there, so don't worry about it until you reach opus 8. Just take the quest for now. Once you're ready stock up on healing stuff and head back to Ulde Desert - Shattered Dam. Note that you'll lose two characters for the duration of this dungeon, and you also have to fight a rather tough battle with just those two. Go to the event for a scene, you'll get the "Burning Battleaxe" and "Composed Spear" traits. You'll have 2 groups of basic soldiers, and then the last one will have a Knightgear. I spammed Agnum's Blaze Burst. It does AoE damage and can be done from range, so I'd let them gather up on Lestin and then start casting it. If need be you can use BAND, the Prelude to Spring to reduce damage taken wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Once you get it down to the Knightgear you can just spam Agnum's spell until it dies from afar to win. After that you'll have control of your main party and get the achievement for visiting every area. Fort Garahl has no search points, by the way.

No search points in this dungeon, just chests. Head to the southeast alcove (not the one in the corner, the one above it) to find a chest with a Luck Apple. Head to the southwest corner for a chest with a Spirit Seedling. Then take the west exit.

Fort Garahl - Sentinel's Gallery

Head to the southwest corner to find a chest with the "Mysterious" trait. Return to the first area and take the east exit now.

The chest in the southeast corner has a Refresh Bottle. By the northwest exit, there's a dead-end that has a chest with the "Overly Helpful" trait. Take the northwest exit.

Fort Garahl - Fort:Second Floor

Imperials
Minotaur

There's a chest with a Spirit Tonic north of you. In the southwest corner is a chest with a Life Soma. Take the north exit for a boss fight. The boss isn't too hard until he uses his Conquerer attack. He charges up for a super long time and then shoots a beam, and then spins around the room. It does massive damage and also leaves behind a damage over time effect. However as with most fights, simply go into dragon form and mash cn_B, and use Prelude to Spring if necessary. You'll get a Dark Score for winning. You'll have a scene, and you'll get the trait "Marion's Will" after it, then another boss fight. This fight is easier, the boss seems to stagger easily from attacks for most of the fight. Use break attacks when he casts, and you should be able to break him during most of his big attacks. His regular attacks don't do much damage, so Kirika and Rinna should have no trouble keeping up. You'll have a bunch of scenes, and then Opus 7 will end.

You'll have the usual barrage of scenes that comes with a new Opus. When you're ready head to Sleepy Hollow - Church Ruins for a boss fight. He's as strong as ever and quite hard to break. I just used dragon form. You'll get an earth score for winning. You'll have another boss fight. He has a big AoE attack he charges up that can wreck your party, but is otherwise not too bad. You can try to use Sonia to break him when he's casting but he's fairly hard to break. Not quite as bad as the previous boss, but still rough. You'll get a Dark Score for winning. After a bunch of scenes, you have to return to Marga. After a bunch of scenes you'll get the "Shining Star" trait. Head to each of the events. Talking to Sonia will unlock the "Princess Knight" trait. Talking to Kirika will give you the "Blossom Diva" trait. The final battle is next, so do the usual. Rapple's quest is called "Alchemist's Dream" and requires a Philosopher's Stone. To make it you need 1 Hihiirokane, 3 Magic Nectar and 1 Forbidden Talisman. The Hihiirokane is best farmed in Silent Badlands, check the two search points by the northwest exit and then zone out and check again. The Magic Nectar is a consumable you might have 3 of already. If not you can make them with Afterworld Dew (Sleepy Hollow when it's foggy) and either 1 Cordyceps or 1 Twilight Amber. The Cordyceps come from the Marasmius in Ladlum Caverns, so that's probably easiest. The Forbidden Talisman is a drop from Heart Snatchers. There should be some in Ladlum Caverns by now, otherwise you'll have to hoof it to the Logos Tundra to fight them there. For Fernando's quest "Septet of the Heart" you need 1 Dragon Maw Scale. You might have one already, otherwise the Ahsgrimm in Thirsting Wastes can drop one.

Kirika - "It's okay. I'm here for you."
Sonia - "We can stop him."
Rinna - "I'm scared, too..."
Agnum - "Skewers for good luck!"
Marion - "I should be thanking you."
Lestin - "My friends."
Excella - "When it's over, let's have fun together."
Jinas - "I say the exact same thing to you, Jinas."

There's a couple things we can do before we do the boss that will make it easier. The first is getting the purple aspect Almighty. It boosts every stat by 5%, but since Yuma's concerto boosts purple aspects, it becomes about 35% or so, so pretty broke. To get it, you'll need to use the grimoire. Save, do the abyss dungeons, and use sigils that boost the rank to S. You'll probably have to use to sigils that raise it rank B, if you highlight a sigil you'll see what it does to the dungeon rank. Once it's S, do the dungeon. If the chest at the end is white, you have it. If not reload your save and try again.

The other thing to make is the aspect Combo Fang. This makes your normal attacks hit twice, so each attack in dragon form will do damage twice. To make one you need 2 Emperor Fangs from Emperor Dragons, and you need 3 Buzzing Wings from Bloodsuckers, which you should be able to find in Elmore Greatwood now. The Emperor Fangs are the real problem, because Emperor Dragons are hard to find. You can find one in Lost Garden when the weather is windy. You can talk to Stella to find what the weather is, though you can usually see the wind walking around town when it's happening. When one spawns steal some from it. You probably have it by now, but if not this will count as a rare aspect, giving you an achievement.

With both of those, you're ready to roll. I was using Lightning Strike, Almighty, God Strength, Conqueror Strength and Assault Groove on Yuma at this point. The Conqueror Strength can be purchased from Liselotte, the God Strength can be made with 2 Warrior Strength, 1 Hero Strength, and 1 Conqueror Strength (all purchased from Liselotte). Head to the Lost Garden, and go to the event there. After a short scene you can talk to a party member to get their ending, if they have a heart over their head. I chose Rinna for my first run, it doesn't matter who you choose though. After you choose one a scene starts, then go to the event marker for the final fight.

In dragon form the fight should pose no real problem to you. If you're struggling you can try swapping out something for Fusion to help survive a bit easier. After he dies, you'll have the finalfinal boss. He has two attacks you need to watch out for. The first is when he charges up for a bit and then roars or whatever in front of him, it will do a ton of damage. The other is when he burrows, when he comes out of the ground he will do a ton of damage to anyone on top of him. Stay behind him, so if he uses the roar attack and kills everyone, you can turn into a human and revive them all. Or he does it to you, in which you can tank it (or revive Yuma). For the burrow just stay away and wait for him to get back up. Use dragon form again.

Once it's dead you'll have a ton of scenes, and then unskippable credits (they don't show up in future endings thankfully). You'll get 2 achievements afterward.

Now return to Marga. Buy a Master Egg sigil and Bullet Witch sigil from Liselotte, then save. Use both sigils in the grimoire (should make it S rank) and then do the dungeon. It's a boss fight. Take down Marion first and then go for Rinna. If you get the white chest, you'll get the Sorcerous Rumble tuning. Equip this on Rinna. It makes her spells instant cast, which is super broke. We'll get a spell called Storm for her that hits every enemy, that combined with this tuning makes fights hella quick.

Our next step is getting everyone's affection up so we can get the rest of the endings, which we will also combine with powerleveling to 100. To start with make the Power of Love tuning for Yuma to equip, as this will boost the affection gain from battle. You need a Chicken Heart, 3 Broken Arrows, and 2 Imp Wings. The Chicken Heart drops from Thunderbirds, who you can find in either Windia Grasslands during some weather conditions, or in Sharion Coast. The Broken Arrows come from Hunter Skeletons. The only place I've spotted them is Logos Tundra - Highwolf Trail. There's a group by the northwest exit. Steal 'em or kill 'em. The Imp Wings come from the torch enemy, which you can find in Djingharna Ruins - Daybreak Garden. You probably have them by now. With that aspect made and equipped on Yuma, what I did was run the Egg Hunt sigil twice, just killing the big enemies and the eggs. An alternative is using 3 Master Eggs and killing every enemy group, then you only need to run one. Using Master Eggs can get pretty expensive though, so I ended up just using Egg Hunts, up to you though.

Anyway, you run Egg Hunt twice of 3 Master Eggs once, and then do night events and any dates that pop up, and then run the grimoire again. As a reminder, the girls have a trait with a red heart icon when you get their ending, and the guys have a trait with a red house icon when you get their ending. Jinas and Excella don't have this, so I'd consider them done when you've gone on 5 dates. Remember that your first date with Excella gives the Glass Sigil, DO NOT USE! The first date with Jinas gives a Full Moon Sigil, DO NOT USE! Otherwise you void an achievement. As you level up, Rinna will learn the force Storm, use this from now on. It does massive damage to every enemy on the field, which makes fights much faster. Here's the traits for each character's endings.

Kirika - Dream to Reality
Sonia - Princess's Feelings
Rinna - Cuddly
Agnum - Traveling Bandman
Marion - Fluttering Maiden
Lestin - Elise's Disciple

With everything done head back to the Lost Garden and go to the event. Go through each character's ending now. The fights should be much easier, either using dragon form or spamming Storm with Rinna should end the fight much quicker than before. You still have to skip a billion scenes but you don't have to watch the credits again. Ending with Lestin Messenger of Peace, Yuma gets Vow of Peace.

This page is for traits. Most of them come from either the story, chests, or conversations that start when you talk to someone with "..." over their heads in town. Note that some of them can be spoilers, so I wouldn't read this page until you've finished the game and need to get some traits for the achievement. In truth, you should have the required 100 way before you finish the story, but if you somehow don't, you can use this list. As with all these pages, they are not an exhaustive list, and only includes the ones I've found so you can get the achievement if you're short some. Note that unless it's unlocked in the story, the Opus I give that I unlocked it in is just a guide, it's where I got it. Nothing seems to be missable, so I might have gotten a trait for a ... conversation in opus 3, but maybe you won't run into it until opus 4 or 5.

This is a list of all the monsters in the game, along with their drops. As for their locations, well...enemies move based on chapter, weather also replaces some enemies with different ones, and post-game locations are typically very different than what they were during the story. Pretty much everything moves as the game goes on, so it's hard to list a location. Generally speaking the in-game location is the end-game/post-game location, and that's the one I put. The materials they drop are also listed, so if you're trying to track down a material, this is the page to do it. Generally speaking it seems the drops are listed in increasing order of rarity. I.E. the #4 material is much less common than material #1. In order to unlock an enemies' entry in the monster book, you have to get a figure of them. The icon for it is a hexagon. You can either get it as a very rare drop from the monster itself, or use the lucky egg in Marga (basically a slot machine) when it shows up in an early chapter. There's no achievement for filling the monster book though, so no real reason to bother. If you're still interested, it took me about 300k-400k gold to get all the figures to type this page up.

* - These enemies only spawn in certain situations. They will randomly spawn in any battle you fight in any area. You can also use the Egg Hunt Sigil to make them appear in grimoire dungeons. Other than that, there is no set area to find them.

This page is for the world map. There's a map in-game, but it's not quite as detailed. A lot of areas are just one dot on the map, even though there are multiple areas. Some of the paths don't match up with where they are in relation to other areas, so I decided to try and use my vast (truly vast) Paint knowledge to try and make a better one. One thing to note is the map would be quite cluttered if I used the region name AND the area name for each one, so the region name is the same color as the circles, and the area name is in black text. Black circles aren't related to a region. Note that the world slowly unlocks as you progress through the story. The game puts an incredibly strong monster in front of paths they don't want you to take yet.

World Map

In order to get a character's ending, you have to raise their affection and go out on 4-5 dates with them. To raise affection you can either fight a battle with them, correctly answer a prompt given every opus or get a random question during a night event correct. As their affection rises, you can invite them to a night event. Here you'll have a conversation and potentially get a prompt to give an answer. At the end of the night event, you might be asked on a date. This just requires visiting 3 random places and then the date ends. Each of the "real" characters get a title when their ending is unlocked. Once the ending is unlocked, you talk to them before the final battle of the story and you'll get their ending (and their achievement) after the scenes end. In post-game there is a "Power of Love" aspect that increases the affection gain from battle, make sure you use it when the time comes.

As for the night events, the questions given seem to be semi-random. It's either based on affection level, what opus you're in, or both. I had a lot of trouble getting all the events to show up for me, so while I've included the per-opus answers here, for the night events you'll want to mosey on over to this webpage, which is not mine and I did not make it : https://www.neoseeker.com/shining-resonance-refrain/walkthro....

Basically a night event will work like this. The start of the conversation will be some small talk After that the text window will disappear and then come back, and the random event is started. If there's going to be a question prompt, the test box will disappear and reappear again after a few windows of text and the text that shows is the text you need to match with the answer on the website. After the prompt, either there will be a good night said, or you will be invited on a date. Here's an example.

Kirika : giggle Good evening, Yuma. I was hoping you would come by for a chat.

Yuma : Of course! But I'll have to be careful. I keep losing track of time when we talk.

Kirika : Yes, it is the same with me. We need to make sure we get enough sleep!

"text window disappears and comes back*

Kirika : What do you ant to do when the war is over, Yuma?

Yuma : What do I want to do? Hmm... I've never really though about it. I never had the chance...

"text window disappears and comes back"

Kirika : Well, you have your chance. What would you like to do?

When you press A, the prompt will appear. The correct answer in this case is "See the world".

After this you may have another block of text, and then the text window will disappear and come back. Either they will say good night, or invite you on a date. Bear in mind that failing the prompt will not ruin your chances at the achievement, it will just take a little longer. After 4-5 dates you'll get a title for everyone but Excella and Jinas. When you reach the final battle, you'll be able to choose someone to talk to. The characters with their ending unlocked with have a heart above them. Here's the titles. Bear in mind Excella and Jinas do not have one, so you just have to do 4-5 dates (5 to be safe) and that should be enough.

Kirika - Dream to Reality
Sonia - Princess's Feelings
Rinna - Cuddly
Agnum - Traveling Bandman
Marion - Fluttering Maiden
Lestin - Elise's Disciple

Opus 2

Kirika : Nothing, really. I just wanted to talk to you.
Sonia : I don't feel comfortable here yet...
Rinna : You don't need to thank me.
Agnum : I'm feeling like fish today.
Excella : I'm kay. Are you sure you're fine?
Jinas : You look worse than me, Jinas.

Opus 3

Kirika : I'm not angry.
Sonia : Do you want me to go look for him?
Rinna : I want you to like me.
Agnum : Yours of course, Agnum.
Excella : I want to get stronger.
Jinas : He does seem cheerful and reliable.

Opus 4

Kirika : You'll get used to it eventually.
Sonia : I train every day.
Rinna : I feel exactly the same way.
Agnum : Yeah, ghosts don't exist!
Marion : You'll get used to it in no time.
Excella : I feel better after seeing you.
Jinas : How'd you know I'd be able to control it?

Opus 5

Kirika : I still don't really know.
Sonia : We have to stay strong.
Rinna : That's what I thought.
Agnum : Okay, thanks.
Marion : She meant you don't like hot things.
Lestin : Resting.
Excella : Why don't we think of something together?
Jinas : Okay, I'll remember.

Opus 6

Kirika : Uh, apparently it's true...
Sonia : But that doesn't change what they've done.
Rinna : Do you want me to go?
Agnum : I like the heat.
Marion : I don't think this is what he meant.
Lestin : The Seagull Inn.
Excella : I'd rescue you, of course!
Jinas : You're not weak. You're here by my side.

Opus 7

Kirika : It hasn't really sunk in yet...
Sonia : I still have a lot to learn.
Rinna : It's thanks to you, Rinna.
Agnum : I think the Blazing Pyromaestro is fine.
Marion : It's nothing. I'm all right.
Lestin : Yeah, I think so.
Excella : I finally can stand next to you.
Jinas : Don't say your role is coming to an end.

Opus 8

Kirika : It's okay, I'm here for you.
Sonia : We can stop him!
Rinna : I'm scared, too...
Agnum : Skewers for good luck!
Marion : I should be thanking you.
Lestin : My friends.
Excella : When it's over, let's have fun together.
Jinas : I say the exact same thing to you, Jinas.
