Sayonara Wild Hearts

Hello and welcome to another RadicalSniper99 walkthrough here on TrueAchievements. This time, I'll be guiding you through the wonderful music-game, Sayonara Wild Hearts.

In Sayonara, you are the heroine trying to repair and overcome their heartbreak in life (yes, there is a story to this music game). The game has numerous gameplay variations as you go through the songs and try to reach some solution or inner calm.

The walkthrough will proceed in the following fashion:

  • Page 2 will cover the controls and some general tips for the game
  • Page 3 will cover each individual song and the locations of the special collectibles for each
  • Page 4 will go over the riddles. This page will be heavy spoilers so it will have numerous spoiler tags to allow people to try and figure out the meanings for themselves or get small hints if they're struggling.

I will try to include videos where appropriate to give visual references to work off of. All recordings (unless otherwise noted) were acquired myself and uploaded to my Youtube channel.

With all that said, thanks for checking out the walkthrough and let's get started.

Controls

Overall, the controls for Sayonara are fairly straightforward. Really, there are only two buttons we need to go over.

cn_LS - Movement

cn_A - QTE's/Attack

While that's all there is to controlling the game, there are some things to keep in mind:

  • You can use any of the A, X, B, or Y for the QTE's in the game. Any time there is a specific button input, use whichever you feel most comfortable. I generally used A, but found that others were possible.
  • For the LS, you can actually also use the D-Pad and RS. I generally stuck with the LS, but there might be times where the other two are appropriate. For example:
    • In some of the 2D sections or when the movement had more a focus on a single plane of movement, I found the D-Pad better for my mentality.
    • When there was a bow shooting mechanic in later levels, I found that the RS at times was easier to aim for the attacks as that was what I was used to for many shooting mechanics.

Beyond that, not much to say here.

Tips

For the riddles, if you don't want the exact solution given to you, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Pay attention to the Tarot cards associated with the levels. Many of the levels have one or multiple cards that are displayed during the cut-scenes. A lot of the riddles will reference these cards. This can help limit the guesswork if you're struggling.
  • For some of the actions required in the riddles, consider the meaning of the words to reverse engineer them into something more straightforward. For example, little blood pump would be a heart.
  • Each of the 5 bosses is associated with a Tarot card as well. This can narrow down some regions as well.

The game will allow you to skip sections if you're having trouble. Failing a section many consecutive times will give that option. Just keep in mind the following:

  • You need to Gold Rank all the songs at least once to unlock the final mode for one of the achievements. Skipping a section will reset your multiplier and likely cause you to not get enough points.

For each song, here are some of the things to keep in mind:

  • There are 3 pick-up types. They are:
    • Small Hearts
    • Large Hearts
    • Diamonds/Squares
  • Each time you pick up a type of collectible, it increases the value of the next one of the same type. For example, the first small heart you collect will be worth 1 point, but the one after that will be worth 2, then 3. This is the combo/multiplier system for the game. Missing a collectible does not reset your multiplier. Instead, a mistake that results in a death will cause it to reset. In some cases, staying alive will be more important than risking it all during a tough section. The larger hearts and diamonds are each worth more and have similar increases in their point value each time you collect one.
  • Along with the pick-ups, here are some other actions which gain points (these items do not increase in score when you do multiple of them):
    • QTE's
      • One variation of these will earn you points depending on your timing:
        • Perfect - 250
        • Good - 100
        • OK - 50
      • The other variation will give you points for each as you mash hits. The point value will increase with each successive hit.
    • Slide
      • This isn't possible for every level or vehicle, but there are times when you go from the far left to the far right of the track, you can get a slide bonus
    • Risky
      • This bonus is earned when you pass by an obstacle very close (similar to the near-miss in racing games).
    • Drift
      • During the level with a car, drifting will give you points. Each consecutive moment of drifting will grant you an additional point in comparison to the previous one.

This page is devoted to a walkthrough of the songs. Here we will give tips for the songs in order of appearance. Each portion will cover the following:

  • Locations of all the diamond/square pickups
  • Scores for each rank
  • Tips for Gold as Needed
  • Video showing a possible gold rank (these may not be perfect, but will work for a gold)

Remember, we need to hit Gold Rank on all songs at least once to unlock one of the Extra modes (which is required for a couple of achievements).

This page will not go over the requirements for the riddles or the achievements involved. That will all be covered on the following page.

In general, each "area" of the game begins with a Heartbreak level. It then follows with you meeting the area's main villain. You'll square off with them in some back and forth before the final level of the area will have you finally take them down.

General Gold Tips

  • No death is not required in some cases, but many levels will need you to be perfect in terms of deaths. Death will reset your multipliers/combos and thus greatly slow your score increase.
  • Because of the importance of staying alive, sometimes just not going for all the collectibles and playing it safe is the best way to go. One such time for me was during the level "Inside". I frequently died during one of the end sections while going for the hearts. I stopped going for it to play it safe and survive, and got the gold in that run. My score was less, but it still earned me the gold I needed.
  • Some levels will require multiple runs to learn the layout. Part of doing well is muscle memory. The Heartbreak levels especially were difficult for me to get the Gold as I had a harder time seeing what was coming.

Song - Clair De Lune

  • Gold - 15000
  • Silver - 10000
  • Bronze - 50000

Number of Diamonds - 2

  • Diamond 1 - When you are preparing to make the jumps off the ramps, you will eventually come to a split with a ramp on the left and ride side. Use the left one to get the diamond.
  • Diamond 2 - When you hit the section of going in circles, stay to the left side (it's the inside of the first circle and the outside of the second circle).

Tips

Clair De Lune is a rather straightforward track. The pick-ups are generally well telegraphed to the player. You should see them as they come and have time to get in line for it all. My top score for this level is around 18.5k. Not a ton of leeway, but given the lack of quick turns or shaking we'll see going forward, it shouldn't pose too much trouble.

Song - Heartbreak I

  • Gold - 25000
  • Silver - 15000
  • Bronze - 5000

Number of Diamonds - 2

  • Diamond 1 - After the two warps, the first diamond will be slightly to the left of center.
  • Diamond 2 - When you reach the second set of warps you want to be on the right side but go around the warp. It's directly behind it. I frequently missed the portal, but it can take some work to get it completely.

Tips

Heartbreak levels will be some of the consistently hardest to do. They're quick and what's coming up can be easy to miss. As such, part of these levels can sometimes come down to memorization. Here are some things to watch out for (especially during Heartbreak levels in general):

  • The white trails on these levels are ramps. If you're on them, you can ride up them and usually collect extra stuff. If you miss the beginning, you can sometimes still ride them before they begin to incline.
  • The large white ovals are warps. These frequently send you to a spot to collect even more stuff. Missing them can cause you to lose out on a spot above or to the side that you can't reach quickly enough.
  • My best here is over 30k. There's some space for missing stuff - but if you're having trouble, give the level a few runs and you'll start to remember the patterns.

Song - Doki Doki Rush

  • Gold - 30000
  • Silver - 15000
  • Bronze - 5000

Number of Diamonds - 4

The diamonds for this level come fast and late in the level. So don't be surprised you don't find one for a while.

  • Diamond 1 - After the large ramp with the bus on the right, there will be two cars on the left road. You need to pass between them for this first diamond. Aim for the dashed line when passing between them.
  • Diamond 2 - At the end of this road, you'll turn to the right. Make sure to head towards the right when making the turn. It comes up really quick and you won't get much time to see it.
  • Diamond 3 - As you follow the trail of hearts right after Diamond 2, you will see a dash pad between some buildings. Aim for this as the 3rd diamond is right between them.
  • Diamond 4 - Right after Diamond 3, there will be some small ramps on each side of the road. The first one on the left will have some hearts to collect. After you go off it, you should see the diamond on your right. Move to the right and you'll get this final diamond.

Tips

This level is the first one to actually give you a chance to "die". While all the traffic is an obstacle, I'd say it's not as bad as it could be. Focus on following the collectibles throughout. These will generally give you the best path for avoiding all of the obstacles. With 4 collectibles on this level, getting all 4 in your run will be super important to reaching the Gold Score. My best was only 5k above Gold, so missing one of them will be a huge problem.

Song - Fighting Hearts

  • Gold - 10000
  • Silver - 5000
  • Bronze - 2500

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - After the QTE fight sequence, you'll begin to ride your motorcycle. Follow the hearts on the right side. You'll have a QTE to jump the fence. Our first diamond is on the right side.
  • Diamond 2 - For the second fence jump (right after the first), our diamond is down the middle.
  • Diamond 3 - Right after the second fence jump, our trail of hearts is on the left. Follow this for our 3rd fence jump and it will lead to our 3rd diamond.

Tips

This level is mostly one giant QTE. There are 21 separate QTE's to complete. As a point of comparison here's what your scores could look like for each score possibility:

  • 21 Perfect = 250*21 = 5,250
  • 21 Good = 100*21 = 2,100
  • 21 OK = 50*21 = 1,050

As you can see, your ability to time the QTE's will greatly contribute to your final score. You can actually get half the Gold requirement just from being Perfect. Do you need to be? NO! My video below has plenty of "good" ranks in it. Even then, I scored over 12k points for the level. So don't feel too discouraged with some bad timing. It might take a couple of runs to get comfortable with where the perfects are, but with practice, it shouldn't prove too difficult to repeat.

Song - Begin Again

  • Gold - 60000
  • Silver - 30000
  • Bronze - 15000

Number of Diamonds - 3

NOTE: Each of the dancing devils has a diamond during it.

  • Diamond 1 - During the first devil, after a running QTE sequence, you'll jump out a window and see two tunnels. The one on the left has a train car. You need to go on the left side of the train car to get the first diamond.
  • Diamond 2 - In the second devil portion, you will begin to go down a subway tunnel and the devil will be firing shots towards you. Between two subway cars, there will be a small notch where the diamond is. You'll need to duck in and out quick to grab it.
  • Diamond 3 - During the final devil fight, you'll have a free-flying section. You will have some hearts to collect. There will be a large rock wall on the right side. It will fall away to reveal the final diamond.

Tips

This our first official "boss" level in the game. The final showdown with an area's gang are usually longer and have more things to do. Generally speaking, if the levels are less than 2 minutes, these boss levels usually exceed 3 minutes.

For Begin Again Gold, you can miss a diamond (or two) in some cases. My best runs here are over 72k points currently. I frequently skipped the first diamond and still was fine as long as I didn't take a death

For the sections with you coming towards the camera, left and right are relative to your view, not your character's. You hitting left causes her to go right. For both of the sequences in the fight, move to the left side of the screen and you'll be safe.

As I said during Doki Doki Rush, following the hearts will be the safe paths to avoid them.

Video

Song - Heartbreak II

  • Gold - 40000
  • Silver - 25000
  • Bronze - 10000

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - After the intro ramp sequences, there is a warp in the center. After this, there will be a warp on the left with a short run-up of hearts. Go for this one and you'll come out to collect a bunch more hearts and a diamond.
  • Diamond 2 - During the side-scrolling section, you will see a diamond sweeping up and down at the end after the hearts. You'll want to stay below the middle (if we consider a number line from 0-100 going up the screen (you roughly want to be at the 33-40 region of the line.
  • Diamond 3 - After the QTE sequence of the level, you will see a ramp on each side of the screen. Do not ride the ramps. Go down the middle and you'll hit a warp to get the final diamond on the level.

Tips

The ramps on this level combined with the warps can really mess with you if you're not careful. Seeing the warps rotate around the level might have you think you need to move a bunch to get in the warp. Instead, follow the line you used for the ramp before them and you'll end up in the warp.

This level was either the hardest or second hardest of the Heartbreak ones for me (Heartbreak IV was the other). A couple extra runs here to learn what comes when will make a huge difference when going for your gold rank.

Song - Forest Ghost

  • Gold - 20000
  • Silver - 10000
  • Bronze - 5000

Number of Diamonds - 2

  • Diamond 1 - While chasing the deer through the forest, you will see your first diamond between two trees. It can be challenging to get it at first, but I found that aiming further left helped at first. The angle of your ride can make this look harder than it is.
  • Diamond 2 - During the segment while riding the deer, there is a constant set of jumps and hearts. You don't have to jump, but you can for some extra pickups. Towards the end, however, you DO NOT WANT to jump. The timing of the jump will cause you to skip over the diamond. If you're just aiming for the diamonds in a run, you could skip jumping completely to make sure you get it.

Tips

This level does not leave a lot of leeway for Gold. You'll want to get both diamonds when going for Gold as I do in the video below. Focus on learning the small pickup paths. Building your multiplier early can make this easier to work through.

Video

Song - Forest Dub

  • Gold - 10000
  • Silver - 5000
  • Bronze - 2500

Number of Diamonds - 1

  • Diamond 1 - During the mushroom bounce section, the mushrooms appear in a 1-2-1-2 pattern in terms of mushrooms to bounce on. The only problem is that the second 2 only appears to have 1 from far away. When you bounce on the 1 before it, however, a second mushroom appears with the diamond on it. The hard part is to remember it's coming and not go for the hearts on the other path. As long as you do that, it's not too bad to reach.

Tips

This is one of the shortest levels in the game really (even though many already are). The only area to really be concerned about is the mushroom jumps. It can be pretty easy to miss the jump and fall to your death. Other than that, it might take a run to get used to the camera shake, but if you know what to expect, it shouldn't pose too much trouble.

Song - Laser Love

  • Gold - 40000
  • Silver - 20000
  • Bronze - 10000

Number of Diamonds - 2

  • Diamond 1 - When the 3 wolf bots drop in after the opening segment, shoot the middle one and it will drop our first diamond.
  • Diamond 2 - At the end of the long segment with the wolf bots where you got the first diamond, you'll see a set of dash pads in 3 lines. Aim for the leftmost one. The 2nd diamond is in that column.

Tips

We've got guns!!! This level will be a tough one for Gold. It requires a lot of risk. I'll try to give some good tips though to help out:

  • When you shoot the wolf bots, they drop hearts. You do not auto-collect on this level from anything you kill. You need to wait momentarily to collect them.
  • When there are a lot of bots, focus on one side. Kill them all and collect the hearts you can. You might be able to get the other half of the group, but it's difficult. When they fire back towards you, it is a tight window to kill them.
  • After the 2nd diamond, there are flashing squares to shoot that give you a nice point boost. They are scattered between wolf bots on the return (but slightly slower). Zigzag back and forth to get the squares. The wolf bots are more dangerous and worthless pointwise.
  • This level will likely take multiple runs to get the rhythm down especially when it comes down to killing the enemies. Keep at it and you'll get there.

Video

Song - Dead of Night

  • Gold - 35000
  • Silver - 20000
  • Bronze - 10000

Number of Diamonds - 4

  • Diamond 1 - After you come around the corner and face the wolf bots, you will have a first-person section. There will be an arch on the right side after the wolf bots. Go up the ramp and you'll get the first diamond during the jump.
  • Diamond 2 - After the wolf bots, you'll begin tailing the 4 boss ladies again. After two heart pick-ups, there is a tree in the middle of the road. To the left is your second diamond to collect.
  • Diamond 3 - During the second wolf bot section, you will eventually go up a set of stairs. I can't say for sure if the diamond falls just because you go up or you actually shoot it, but if you ride up the middle of the stairs you'll get it.
  • Diamond 4 - During the second encounter with the giant wolf robot piloted by the boss, there will be multiple barrages of missiles from the back-mounted cannon. Right after this, there will be a QTE to jump over the bot. You'll want to be towards the right side because as you jump over the bot you will get the 4th diamond. You can course-correct slightly in the air as needed, but you'll want to be on the right begin with to grab it.

Tips

This level will require you to get fairly fair without dying. The points are pretty spread out and the number of unique combo meters means none of them build up to a really high value. Still possible with mistakes and even taking it safely on numerous parts though. If you knock out the boss and have at least 30k points, you can get the last 5k points necessary from shooting all 4 of the boss hearts (worth 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 in order).

Overall, this level doesn't introduce much new stuff. For the giant Wolf bot, here are some things to watch out for:

  • The back missile will have you going to the edges of the screen. Look for the heart and you'll see which side is safe
  • The one pattern that got me a few times was when the bot had fired a spike roller in the middle and eye blasts on the side. Besides just memorizing when it happens, you can aim to stay center, but I'd recommend watching the moves. The eyes light up on the bot if it's laser blasts.

Video

Song - Heartbreak III

  • Gold - 10000
  • Silver - 5000
  • Bronze - 2500

Number of Diamonds - 2

  • Diamond 1 - During the tower climb, there will be a section with spikes wheels coming down. There will be a portion with two wheels (one on the left and one on the right). The one on the right has a notch in with the first diamond. Just ride in the right lane here and you will get it without crashing.
  • Diamond 2 - During the vertical scroll section, there will be a spot where you see two sets of rocks on the right side of the screen with a small gap between them. Pass between them and you'll acquire the second diamond.

Tips

It is possible to get a Gold Rank on this level while missing one of the diamonds (as shown by my best score of 12k points). But it will require some very good timing during the QTE's and collecting a lot of the hearts throughout. As such, I'd say you want to get both. Other than that, this level is the most straightforward of the Heartbreak levels. The pace feels slower and gives you time to see where the collectibles are as they come.

Video

Song - Hearts and Swords

  • Gold - 15000
  • Silver - 10000
  • Bronze - 5000

Number of Diamonds - 4

  • Diamond 1 - When you start going down the main road to start, you have the option to go right or left with the spin dials. Take the right one. Eventually one of the spinners will have the first diamond on it.
  • Diamond 2 - When the two paths come back together, you will see two ramps on the left and right. It might be easier to do this by riding the right one. When it air, move left towards the middle to get the one in the air here. But continue to the left to land on the left side road as Diamond 3 is soon after.
  • Diamond 3 - If you land on the left road, right after some boosts and hearts, there will be an opening with the 3rd diamond. This one really just requires you to be on the proper side of the road.
  • Diamond 4 - When you come to another split road after the previous section, once again take the right side of the split. The 4th diamond is on one of the spinners you have to take to safely reach the end.

Tips

If you focus on the path that gets all 4 of the diamonds, you'll be more than 2/3 of the way to the gold score. Besides this, the normal path should get you enough of the other hearts to get the gold rank. The roughest part can be getting the spinners. It's easy to miss them at times and hit the wall. Follow the collectibles though and you'll always hit them.

Song - Parallel Universes

  • Gold - 25000
  • Silver - 10000
  • Bronze - 5000

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - After the second ramp jump, go left and hard. The diamond will pop on screen. It is very easy to miss if you're not ready for it.
  • Diamond 2 - Right after Diamond 1, there is a 3 piece section. Snap-Snap-Clap. Towards the end (last one before the ramp to the next section of the level), you will see a heart on the right side with a double pane fan on the left. When they clap for you to pass through, the left portion of the fan becomes a diamond. It can catch you off guard if you're not looking for it.
  • Diamond 3 - When your snap changes the world towards the end of the level, after the 3rd time you snap, get into the 2nd lane from the left. The diamond will appear here.

Tips

This level is a lot of fun but will require you to be thinking about what you're doing rather than just observing. Always look ahead for the next string of hearts and where they'll be coming from. This will carry you through most of the level. The only section that you can do fairly "mindlessly" is when you go back and forth. Observe where the first string of small hearts is, and then just rock back and forth, left and right. Once you get the start down, the side to side movement is more natural and won't feel so off.

Song - Mine

  • Gold - 25000
  • Silver - 10000
  • Bronze - 5000

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - For diamond 1, I'd recommend you always take the right ramp for the beginning and the right ramp for the second one. This will put you to collect the diamond during an automatic wall run. If you take the left ramp for the first jump, I couldn't get far enough to the right for the second ramp.
  • Diamond 2 - After the 1st mash KO attempt, you will ride up ramps and do jumps. After the first one with a split, you will see a second split. In between though there is a 3rd ramp. Go for this one and get the diamond off it. Just watch out as I have frequently missed getting back on the road afterward. You really need to commit to getting back.
  • Diamond 3 - When the boss combines their swords to a large one, they will drop the swords from the sky. The 3rd one they will be in the first lane from the left. You need to pass this one on the left to grab the final diamond for the level.

Tips

As always, you'll want to get all of the diamonds for gold on this level. The 2nd diamond is the one to watch out for. I had a lot of decent runs die there because I didn't commit to the left/right movement to get on the road. You can have gold by the time the final flying section begins so you don't have to worry too much about the jet flying at you. Other than that, I don't have many tips here. Watch the video for a decent idea of the path to take.

Video

Song - Heartbreak IV

  • Gold - 50000
  • Silver - 25000
  • Bronze - 10000

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - After the teleporting section (one moving right and one moving left), the first diamond will be in the center of the screen.
  • Diamond 2 - In the vertical scroll section, there are 3 rock patterns - \ then l then / - after the /, stick to the middle and you'll get the 2nd diamond.
  • Diamond 3 - After the vertical scroll, the side portals will return with warps now too. When you see a ramp down the middle, ride it. When you go off the ramp, go to the right some and get the 3rd diamond in midair.

Tips

For this level, you cannot die in the vertical section. Plus you need to build up an amazing combo during the first portion of the level. When you have long strings of hearts going through the portals, you need to move constantly to the left or right through the portals. It takes some getting used to, but once you do you can build up 30k+ points when you're back to the normal forward movement. That's what it took for me to eventually get a gold rank and eventually push to my high of 60k+.

Video

Song - Night Drift

  • Gold - 10000
  • Silver - 5000
  • Bronze - 2500

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - When you drop in right behind your character after the first section, there will be a ramp on the left side of the road. Take it for Diamond 1.
  • Diamond 2 - A little further down the road from Diamond 1, the second diamond will be on the right side.
  • Diamond 3 - If I divide the level into segments (curved, straight, curved, straight, curved), then during the last curved section right before the end of the level, you want to be on the left set of lanes. The diamond will be in the 3rd lane from the left.

Tips

You will want all 3 diamonds on this level since that is 60% of your gold rank. Drifting can get you some points, but it won't be a ton. The longer you hold the drift, the more points you get. It's a mini-combo. The big piece is to not crash. When doing the turn sections, you want to not be on the sides of the level to start. It can be hard to get out of the side once the turns start.

Video

Song - Reverie

  • Gold - 10000
  • Silver - 5000
  • Bronze - 2500

Number of Diamonds - 4

  • Diamond 1 - In the opening portion of the level, you will have a heart above or below a wall to choose from. Go up. The heart will be to your right immediately following the heart.
  • Diamond 2 - After making a couple of 90 degree turns, you will be moving down a hallway with some shifting squares. Stay in the top right corner for your second diamond.
  • Diamond 3 - When the Tetris pieces are coming towards you, eventually multiple pieces will down at the same time. When you see L block on the right side (base against the left wall with the two blocks coming out to the right, you then see a T piece coming on the right. Along the top of the screen will be the 3rd diamond (see me collect it in the video for a more visual representation).
  • Diamond 4 - After the Tetris blocks, you'll go down a hall where the active and inactive blocks flip every few seconds. After you pass through the face, there will be one with the four corners. Take the top right corner for the last diamond.

Tips

This level does not give a lot of chances for points. The truth of this level is to just get all 4 diamonds in the level without dying. That's 10k points. Play it safe in the Tetris section as needed. There are still about 5k points elsewhere if you don't die though and decide to miss a diamond. But the diamonds are probably the easier route to take.

Video

Song - The World We Knew

  • Gold - 70000
  • Silver - 30000
  • Bronze - 15000

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - After the intro, the enemies will begin to come in from the top and bottom of the screen. The 1st diamond will be in the center of the screen.
  • Diamond 2 - When the screen rotates to be a vertical scroll section with the enemies shooting you, the 2nd diamond will be behind an enemy. Just move behind it and collect it.
  • Diamond 3 - After the section of the level with rotating/moving blades, the screen will continue to rotate as you navigate a maze. When you notice that the end of the maze has arrived, the wall will eventually have part of it fade away to reveal the last diamond for the level. It's a tight fit with the rotation, but terribly so.

Tips

This level is long. Not as long as many of the other bosses, but the chill speed of everything makes it feel slower. In general, just play it safe. If you can make it to the boss without a death (the heart surrounded by missiles), you can reach the 70k for Gold. In my video you see me take a death during the boss and still get a gold. That end section can be a bit tough to dodge all the missiles. You want to bait the boss, as they are homing missiles. If you do the level deathless, 85k points is realistically possible.

Song - Heartbreak V

  • Gold - 35000
  • Silver - 15000
  • Bronze - 5000

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - After the 2nd heart circle, a wave will form to the left of it. Move to get to the top of it and you'll get the first diamond.
  • Diamond 2 - When you see the rotating circles of hearts around the whirlpools, it will be in the 3rd of the circles. You want to ride against the direction of the rotation to collect the 2nd diamond (use this strategy for all the circles to maximize points)
  • Diamond 3 - While falling through the gaps in the hearts, there will be one with two gaps: a large one in the bottom and a smaller one on the top. Go through the small top hole to get the 3rd diamond.

Tips

As long as you don't take a death during the sailing or falling sections, you should be in decent shape for getting the gold. You want to get a lot of the pickups during the sailing section. It is very possible to get upwards of 20k points just during that portion of the level.

Song - Transonic Gravity

  • Gold - 45000
  • Silver - 25000
  • Bronze - 10000

Number of Diamonds - 3

  • Diamond 1 - After a couple of flips of gravity, you will see 3 dash jump points. You will want to be towards the rightmost one as the first diamond will require you to jump off the rightmost point.
  • Diamond 2 - After the jump for Diamond 1, you will be in a section with a lot of gravity flips. This is the steps I take in the video (I recommend you watch it to see as well - this is an annoying diamond if you're not careful):
    • Take the heart between the two flips
    • Get the next flip after the group of small hearts
    • Get the next flip immediately to your left
    • Pass through the group of 4 flips and collect Diamond 2
  • Diamond 3 - During the electric fences, you will come to a section with the turners from Section 3 of the game. You want to take the right side path for this one (just like before). The diamond is on this path and will likely be collected without focusing on it (unless somehow you go around it while trying to hit the next turner).

Tips

Besides having a clean run, you need to learn where the pickups are located. Depending on the flips you do, you can easily miss a string of hearts to boost your score. At the same time, each gravity flip does grant you additional points. It's a balance of the two for sure. As you can see from my VOD of the gold, there is some leeway. Just be careful. Any death can easily make it so you fall just short or just surpass that 45k point requirement.

Video

Song - Hate Skulls

  • Gold - 40000
  • Silver - 20000
  • Bronze - 15000

Number of Diamonds - 2

  • Diamond 1 - I'll be honest, this first diamond appears to be auto-collected. Maybe it's because I shoot everything, but I can't be completely sure. What I can say is that after the QTE jump and the camera rotates there are 3 skulls in a '/' pattern with a box down to the right. I shoot all 4 of these objects and the diamond collects. So shoot the things!
  • Diamond 2 - During the bike section of the level, you will see a dash pad. Hit the dash and you'll pass to get the 2nd diamond. Just watch out for the skulls.

Tips

This level is relatively simple to complete. When it comes to the Gold rank, the most important piece is the combo. You want to string together a lot of kills together. Depending on how many you get, it can be a small, medium, or large combo. By memorizing the patterns you can put them together to build nice combos. Other than that, just don't die.

Video

Song - Inside

  • Gold - 100000
  • Silver - 50000
  • Bronze - 20000

Number of Diamonds - 4

  • Diamond 1 - After the first bow shot (3 skulls and her) - you will go around a curved bridge. Grab the heart on the right to have a bridge open and reveal our first diamond.
  • Diamond 2 - When Devil reveals the Sun card, shoot all 8 edge points. Once they're destroyed, target the center to shoot it and grab Diamond 2 (note - I found you need to move around to target the center. If you just sit there after destroying the 8 legs, it won't re-target and kill the center).
  • Diamond 3 - After the wooded bridge ramps, you'll enter a half-pipe that becomes a full tunnel. Right as it becomes a full tunnel, go to your left to grab the diamond. You'll need to quickly get back to the other side to avoid the electric fence right after it.
  • Diamond 4 - This might sound odd, but while riding the vomit column, you'll have 4 heart pick-ups. After exiting a tunnel, the 4th diamond will be in your path. Just rotate to it and you've got it.

Tips

This level is a doozy. It moves quickly and the score requirement is the highest we've seen up to this point for Gold. If you play well and really go for the collectibles throughout, you can have the 100k points before she turns into her monster form (which was one of the first sections to really trip me up big time). You'll want to learn the layout for sure on this one. I'd recommend playing a few times while also watching the video below.

Video

Song - Wild Hearts Never Die

  • Gold - 400000
  • Silver - 200000
  • Bronze - 50000

Number of Diamonds - 5 - Including times from the video below to help you find it.

  • Diamond 1 - When you get to the 2nd time the giant eye does the spin blade attack, go to the right and collect the hearts and then go left to the middle of the road to get the first diamond (1:10 in video)
  • Diamond 2 - During the re-fights, for Boss 1, follow the heart path. The 2nd diamond is behind the 2nd trolley car (2:30 in video)
  • Diamond 3 - Boss 2 re-fight - directly at the start, the middle head will fire a roller off. The diamond will be behind it (2:55 in video)
  • Diamond 4 - Boss 4 re-fight - the diamond is at the top of the game screen in the middle. Go counter-clockwise around (with the flow of the shots) to pick it up (3:30 in video)
  • Diamond 5 - After you kiss the dragon, you'll be doing another skateboard sequence similar to what we did for the first level. Get the first gravity flip you see. Ride along the path and you'll find the last diamond on the 2nd lane from the right (5:10 in the video - although I missed it like a total DOPE).

Tips

Longest level of the game and final level of the game. My video is a really strong run of the level. At 600k points, it really destroys the requirement for Gold. Here's the thing, I had a gold just over 400k with a death or two in it. So don't feel like you need to do a perfect run for the gold. Here are some tips:

  • At the end of the level, the heart pick-up in the cutscene is worth 100k points. So if you're at 300k at the end of the skateboard in the stars section of the level, you'll still reach Gold rank.
  • Learn the order of the eye boss stuff! While everything after the eye boss was pretty straightforward, I had to learn the patterns and the order they occurred to avoid deaths that broke my combo. If stuff is still catching you by surprise, you likely need to do a few extra runs to make sure you're ready.
  • The dragon section has tons of points in it. If even part of you goes through the heart ring, you will collect the whole ring. If you come into this section with a decent combo, each ring will be worth 1000's of points. I tried to memorize the positions but found I just needed to focus really hard on seeing them as soon as they were on screen.
  • Play Boss 4 Re-Fight safe. There are a lot of heart pickups here, but with the rotating bullets, it will really stink to lose a great combo right before the dragon section when you rack up easy (and safe) points. Get the diamond and don't worry as much about the other minor pickups.

On this page, I will cover the Zodiac Riddles and some hints. I will try to not completely spoil the solution if you are trying to figure it out for yourself. As such, each riddle will have the following format:

  1. Riddle Name (Zodiac character and whether it is the A/B version).
  2. The Riddle itself (“There is no place for me on the podium of a starway” for example).
  3. Hint/Spoiler - This will try to talk about the general ideas within the riddle or give a question(s) to steer you in the right direction.
  4. Song Spoiler - This tells you the exact song to focus on.
  5. Solution Spoiler - This will give you the exact solution for the Riddle. It will include tips for accomplishing the task along with the true meaning of the riddle. In some cases, this might include a video solution.

I realize this will increase the number of clicks and actions required, but I want to give people interested in solving the puzzles a system to learn and discover the answers if they so desire. My apologies for those not interested in this method, but I believe that the walkthrough is merely a tool rather than always needing to beat someone over the head with the answer.

NOTE: The order the achievements/riddles are presented may not be the most straightforward and is instead just the order of the achievement list on TA.
