Pinstripe

Welcome to Pinstripe, a puzzle-adventure (with a bit of platforming) game designed by the one-man team of Thomas Brush. The game itself was developed over five years and released back in 2017. Mixing aesthetics of Hieronymus Bosch and the Roaring '20 (1920's that is...) with just a dash of H.R. Giger to boot, Pinstripe tells the tale of Ted, a Minister, in search of his daughter Bo, who has been kidnapped by the evil (dare we say hellish?) Mr. Pinstripe. As you play the game, Ted's backstory and his relation to Pinstripe will unfold.

Puzzles in this game are pretty simplistic, though the game makes up for this in atmosphere and ambience. "Combat" controls can be a little fiddly on the Xbox controller, but since you only have to fight three or four times in each play-through, this shouldn't affect our enjoyment of the game. Given that, I enjoyed the game enough to write this guide, and I think you'll enjoy it too.

Following this guide, you can expect to complete the game within a little over six hours.

Please note: there is an achievement in this game for taking no damage at all during play -- and, non-obviously, this achievement requirement crosses into all play-throughs, meaning if you're damaged once, you cannot get the achievement, even in subsequent play-throughs without deleting all your save information and starting the game over. The walkthrough will have a strategy for you to get this achievement much easier than one would normally expect, but you have to know the achievement exists and how to avoid marking your save game to make the achievement un-obtainable. Please see the general section of this guide on how to avoid the no damage lockout.

Please note: there is an achievement in this game for taking no damage at all during play -- and, non-obviously, this achievement requirement crosses into all playthroughs, meaning if you're damaged once, you cannot get the achievement, even in subsequent playthroughs without deleting all your save information and starting the game over.

Getting the no damage achievement

First and foremost, let's get the important information out of the way. Unless you're stellar at games (and I am not), or are extremely lucky (I am not) you will get damaged during your first playthrough. You'll know you took damage as the three hearts on the top left of the screen will no longer completely be filled. When this happens, you must immediately do one of the two following things:

1.) If you register the damage at the exact time you took it, you can immediately pause the game, then pushed the guide button cn_guide, and closed the entire game from there. From there, you should be able to restart the game and play from your last save point, and still be able to get the achievement.

2.) If you're unsure when you took damage, or want to be extra safe, immediately upon seeing the damage push the guide button cn_guide, and select "Manage games & add-ons", head down to "Save Data" and select your gamertag. Select "Delete Save Game". Make sure to select "Delete from Console" NOT "Delete Everywhere", (the latter will delete your save on the cloud forcing you to start completely over). Doing this will erase your local save copy and automatically shut down the game. Now, restart the game, and you'll notice that the cloud save will reload the save onto your local machine. You may be set back some time using this method, but your achievement will be safe.

NOTE: if you're going to use method 2, closing the game normally will load your cloud save on the cloud server, so make sure to do the guide button/"Manage games & add-ons" WITHOUT closing the game first, or you'll save the state you don't want by accident. On the other hand, you can quit the game to create a "cloud save", which you can go back to using the method above, so you can use closing the game as a "soft save" if you want to control what point you get reset to using method 2.

Using the above reset methods, you can get through the game without flagging your save file with damage, and you'll unlock:

Playthrough Overview

Pinstripe requires at minimum two run-throughs: an initial no-damage run for the good ending, and a subsequent run for the bad ending (and to unlock all the secret rooms and store items you cannot get on the first run-through).

You also need to do a speed run to complete the game in less than an hour. Technically, you can do this in either of the first two runs above, but since the speed run will only take you about 15 minutes once every other achievement is unlocked, I suggest doing a third playthrough to get this. There are enough stressors in this game (especially in the no-damage run) that it will really benefit you to do a third run for this achievement. Trust me on this.

Video Guide

Mindless Walkthroughs have an excellent video guide to Pinstripe, which is included below with permission. My initial runs of the game followed this video guide, and thus my written guide follows the video very closely. You can use the video to clarify any confusing points in this guide, or use my guide to clarify any confusing points from the video. Big thanks to FredInTheHead for allowing me to post this video in this walkthrough. If you find the video useful like it was for me, consider giving the video a thumbs up over on YouTube:

And now, without further ado, on to the first playthrough of the game!

Please note there is an achievement in this game for taking no damage at all during play -- and, non-obviously, this achievement requirement crosses into all play-throughs, meaning if you're damaged once, you cannot get the achievement, even in subsequent play-throughs without deleting all your save information and starting the game over. See the General Hints & Tips section of this guide on what to do if damaged during your run.

Playthrough One Overview

As the game is presented as a series of (horizontally) fixed screens rather than a continuously scrolling game, most of the instructions below will reference "Go 2 left", "Go 3 right" etc. This means move two screens over via the left-side border of your monitor, three via moving to the right-side border of your monitor, etc. (Should be obvious, but worth stating). Occasionally, you'll have to "Go 1 down" -- don't worry, as there is no fall damage in this game, so your no damage achievement won't be voided.

Also, most dialogue options don't affect the game and/or achievements at all EXCEPT for the ones marked with a SUN or MOON icon in front of them. For this run, we're always going to select the ones with the SUN icon, so we can get the Nice Guy achievement (these options are always on the left). I'll indicate in the walkthrough where these opportunities are.

Just be nice, OK?

Finally, I'll indicate most places where you can pick up the game's currency, oil droplets. If you see ones the guide misses, gather them up, as you'll need as many as you can get in this playthrough and the next (they carry over between games). Even if not specifically mentioned, break every pot and box you encounter with the slingshot (or gun) once you get it and collect anything inside.

On the Train

Conversation, Bo: Select any.

Go 1 right

Jump on the fireplace, then onto the left-side upper platform. Collect oil. Go 1 right from this upper platform

Click on right-hand switch. Go 2 right.

Pick up Mommy's Locket (Clue #1 of 9). Save at portrait if you like. Go 1 right.

Click the right-hand button. Bo will tell you she can reach that one, so move to the left button and click that instead (Bo will click the right button simultaneously). Go 2 right.

Pick up Bo's Notebook (Clue #2 of 9). Click on the button three times to the left to reveal three platforms. Jump on each platform in sequence (hitting the button at the center of each platform) to open the door. Go 1 right.

Conversation, Mr. Pinstripe: Select any. Go one right.

Go 6 left. Conversation, Mr. Pinstripe.

EdgeWood

Pick up Bo's Scarf (NOTE: not a collectible). Pick up oil droplet to the left. Go 3 left.

Jump on the first platform to begin lowering it. As it lowers, jump to the second platform and quickly jump to the clifftop next to it. Grab the oil. Go 1 left.

Move to the left of the screen, then use the two mushrooms on the tree to jump to the upper platform on the right. Grab the oil droplet here. Go 2 right (via this upper platform).

Hey look, its Felix aka PewDiePie! (Fun fact: YouTuber PewDiePie provides the voice for this character). Jump to the mushroom then on top of the branch from which Felix is hanging. Jump up and down on the branch until Felix flies off. Grab the oil droplet above and slightly to the left of you. Go 1 down.

Talk to Felix (he's on the right platform now). Conversation, Felix: Select "Sorry?" Pick up the sack to the right of Felix. Go 2 left. Enter door.

Save at portrait if you like. Talk to Mr. Dicky. Conversation, Mr. Dicky: Select "Thank you kind sir!" Go 1 right.

Grab the oil droplet from above the door. Click on the tree to feed it the sack you picked up earlier. Jump back to the platform above the door and use this to jump to the first branch of the tree. Jump between branches until you reach the top. Ignore the chest for now (it will only be unlockable when you grab the clues with the code on them). Grab the oil droplet here. Grab the slingshot here. Shoot the box handing off the left of the tree (this should release an oil droplet.) Fall to the base of the tree (there is no fall damage in this game) and grab the oil droplet. Go 2 left.

Talk to Mr. Dicky. Conversation, Mr. Dicky: Select "I'll meet you there." Go 2 right.

Shoot the pot in front of the locked gate and grab the oil droplet. Go 2 right.

Shoot the hanging crate and grab the oil droplet. Go 2 right.

Shoot the light at the upper left and grab the oil droplet. Shoot the rope above the handing log to drop down the log. Jump on the log then onto the platform with the oil drop, grabbing it. Go 1 right.

Hangley Pass

Either shoot or bounce up and down on the yellow "mushroom" to release an oil drop. Take it and grab the three others on the bridge. Use the telescope if you wish (not necessary). Go 1 right

Conversation, Mr. Pinstripe: Select "(Hold your tongue)". Go 1 lower right

Shoot all the baskets/yellow mushrooms and collect all the oil droplets. Click on the button to the left of the tree (it will start blinking). Go 1 left.

Click on the button to the left of the screen (it will start blinking). Go 1 upper right

Grab the oil droplet. Go 1 right.

Shoot the left wheel repeatedly until it goes as high as it can. This will cause Filmstrip (1 of 5) to drop (NOTE: filmstrips are not part of any achievement but collecting all five will allow you to unlock "Vintage Mode" on subsequent run-throughs of the game, so I'll list them here). With the filmstrip in hand, again shoot the wheel until the log rises enough for you to safely run under it. Grab the oil droplet on the other side. Go 1 right.

Press the button on the center post (it will start blinking). Shoot the lamp at the top right of the screen for an oil droplet. Grab all the oil droplets on the screen (three in all including the one from the lamp). Go 1 right.

Talk to Mr. Dicky. Conversation, Mr. Dicky: Select "I'm sorry!" Shoot the box at the top center for an oil droplet. Shoot the lens of the camera by the left side of the screen to destroy it. Go 2 left.

Shoot the right wheel to raise the log enough to get under safely. Go 1 left.

The cage will break, and George will be free! He'll be your companion for the rest of the game. Conversation, George: Select "I'm sorry man!" Go 1 left.

Shoot the left wheel repeatedly until the log rises enough for you to safely run under it. Go 1 left.

There will be a spot slightly to the left of the pole you can click on. George will run over and dig up a mushroom you can bounce on. Do so to move to the upper left platform. Go 1 upper left.

Hey look! It's famous YouTuber #2, JackSepticEye!

Conversation, Jack: Select any. Go 1 upper right.

Starting at this screen and moving forward, you'll encounter flying robots called "demons". These can hurt you via dropped bombs and void your no-damage achievement if you're not careful. See the General Hints & Tips section of this guide on what to do if damaged during your run.

On this screen is your first demon (one of only three real enemy types in the game, the other two being bosses). Three shorts from the slingshot will kill it for Demon Slayer (1 of 26). Head to the right of the screen by the wooden brace where you have the option to click on a dig spot. Do so and pick up the Bible (Clue #3 of 9). Shoot the fungus on the side of the cliff for an oil droplet. Use the wheel platforms to jump to the top right platform. Grab the oil droplet here. Go 1 right.

Stay to the left of the screen and shoot the wooden brace in the middle several times to open a path. (CAUTION: shooting the yellow mushroom here will release a bomb that can damage you). Go 1 right.

Ignore the door here (it's for the second playthrough) and jump to the bridge on the right. Look down and shoot the lens of the camera under the left-hand portion of the bridge until it breaks. Go 1 right.

Another demon. This time though, you need it to do something for you. On the left-hand slope of the roof, you'll see a camera pointing up. Stand right under it and bait the demon to drop one of its bombs onto the camera lens. You'll know you were successful when George makes a comment. Once this is done, kill the demon for Demon Slayer (2 of 26). NOTE: this demon respawns once you leave and come back, and I don't know if killing it repeatedly ups your demon count by more than one. I know personally I killed it a few times and my Demon Slayer achievement unlocked early. Therein, feel free to kill it a few times if you like, although the guide will get you all 26 without issue. When done this, jump off the right-hand side of the screen, grabbing an oil droplet on the way down (i.e., Go 1 down).

Go 1 left.

Walking halfway across the screen, the key should now fall. Grab it. Go 1 upper left.

Go 1 upper right.

Go 3 right.

Click on the door of the house to enter.

Bounce on the bed to grab the oil drops at the top of the screen. Keeping bouncing on the bed, about 20-25 times to have Filmstrip (2 of 5) appear. Grab it. Click on the telephone to speak to Bo if you'd like. Click on the record player. As the music plays, do nothing for about a minute or so. Eventually, a cardinal (i.e., a red bird) will appear in the room on the pipe above the wood stove. Touching this bird will give you Phonograph (1 of 3) While not directly related to an achievement, getting all three phonographs will unlock the infinite songbird rifle, making the final boss of the game much, much easier. Use the bed to jump to the upper right platform. Use the portrait if you wish to save the game. Go 1 upper right.

Conversation, Miss Birdy: Select "Sure thing!" Shoot the pot on the railing for an oil drop, then shoot all five targets on Miss Birdy's cage to free her. You may have to shoot the cage itself to get it to swing enough to shoot the targets on the far side. Conversation, George: Select any. Jump off the balcony and aim for the two oil drops in the middle of the screen on your way down. Go 1 down.

Conversation, Miss Birdy/Mr. Dicky: Select "It's OK Dicky..." Receive Bo's Note (Clue #4 of 9) automatically. Go 1 left.

Conversation, George: Select "Thanks for the tip!" Go 1 upper left.

Jump off the left-hand side of the screen to grab the oil droplet on the far left. Go 1 down.

Go 1 left.

Waiting here for you is the second enemy of the game, "Little Lady". She only appears twice in the game and is really a mini boss. Again, if you get damaged by her, you'll and to use the trick outlined in the General section of the game to prevent voiding of the no damage run achievement

On this screen we'll get trapped here until we defeat "Little Lady". This is the first of two encounters with her and is by far the easier of the two, thanks to the platform on the right upon which we can stand and be perfectly safe. The trick to beating "Little Lady" is to jump and bounce off her butt. Hitting her butt six times will defeat her. The easiest way to do this is to stand on the right platform and goad her into charging the platform, and as she is against the side, jump onto her butt, then bounce back onto the platform. Do this six times and the pass will open. Just make sure to hit her butt and not her head or you will take damage. Upon victory, grab the oil drops "Little Lady" will drop. Go 2 left.

Use the telescope if you like. Go 1 left back to EdgeWood.

EdgeWood (pt 2)

Go 1 left.

Demons have invaded EdgeWood! Good for us and our demon count. Kill this one for Demon Slayer (3 of 26). Grab the oil it drops. Go 1 left.

Kill another demon here for Demon Slayer (4 of 26). Grab the oil it drops. Shoot the lamp at the top left of the screen to make Filmstrip (3 of 5) appear. Grab it. Go 1 left.

Watch, as a demon spawns near where you enter this screen. Kill this one for Demon Slayer (5 of 26). Grab the oil it drops. At the base of the left wheel of the train is a dig spot. Click on it to receive Medicine Vial (Clue #5 of 9). On this bottle, you'll get the first and last numbers of the code to the chest at the top of tree (4 and 3). The middle number is on Bo's note (10). Go 3 right.

Kill another demon here for Demon Slayer (6 of 26). Grab the oil it drops. Shoot the lamp above the door for another oil drop. Enter the house.

Click on the portrait and save if you wish. Click on the record player. As the music plays, again do nothing for about a minute or so. Eventually, a cardinal will appear on the bookcase. Touching this bird will give you Phonograph (2 of 3). Go 1 right.

Jump on the platform above the door, then to the branches of the tree and make your way to the top again. Click on the chest and enter the combo 4-1-0-3. This will automatically get you the headlamp. Drop down to the tree base. Go 2 left.

Go 6 right (the demons should all be dead so it should be safe) back into Hangley Pass.

Hangley Pass (pt 2)

Go 1 right.

Go 1 lower right.

Enter the big hollow tree.

Conversation, Mr. Pinstripe: Select any. Turn on your lamp. Go 1 right.

The Sack Chute

Feel free to save at the portrait. Go 1 right.

Kill another demon here for Demon Slayer (7 of 26). Grab the oil it drops, and the three others on this screen. Go 1 upper right.

Kill another demon here for Demon Slayer (8 of 26). Grab the oil it drops, and the three others on this screen. Go 1 right.

Shoot the orbs in this order (from left to right) 1,2,1,1,3 (i.e., spell D-A-D-D-Y). Click on the machine Go 2 left.

Go 1 lower right.

Grab the four oil drops here. Go 1 right.

Stand on the left-hand side of the wooden platform. Wait for the sludge to drop on the right and fling you to the upper right platform. Grab the oil drop here. From here: Go 1 right.

Grab the three oil drops here. Go 1 right.

Kill another demon here for Demon Slayer (9 of 26). Grab the oil it drops, and the two other drops on the screen. Go 1 right.

Shoot the orbs in this order (from left to right) 3,4,5,2,1,5 (i.e., spell P-L-E-A-S-E). Click on the machine. Go 1 left.

Go 1 down.

Go 1 left.

Shoot the orbs in this order (from left to right) 1,2,4,5,3,5 (i.e., spell S-A-V-E-M-E) Click on the machine. Go 2 right.

Welcome to the worst screen of the game. It’s a small platforming part where you must jump on moving boxes to get across the screen. Unfortunately, falling into the pit WILL VOID YOUR NO DEATH ACHIEVEMENT, so please please please head to the General section of this guide and familiarize yourself on how to reset your save should you fall into the pit. And you will. Repeatedly.

I'd recommend backtracking a bit to go back to the save portrait before attempting this (Go: 1 left, 1 up via mushroom, 5 left to get back to the portrait, and 1 right, 1 lower right, 3 right, 1 down, 1 right to get back) At the portrait, quit and reload the entire game to ensure that your save is now on the cloud, or you'll have to redo some of the sections of the game.

Note you'll have to cross this gap three times in total (twice right and once left.) I apologize in advance for all the save resetting you will do.

When heading to the right on this screen, its best to try to try to just walk onto the barrels. Should this not work for you, try jumping to the barrel when its approach the middle of the gap (i.e., when it’s just about under the water pipe.) Remember to jump off before hitting the opposite side of the gap. Congrats, 1 of 3 hell-jumps down! Go 2 right.

Conversation, Mr. Pinstripe: Select any. Go 1 right.

Pissward Falls

Trapped again! We must face down "Little Lady" again, but this time with two additional problem -- 1.) there is no platform you can safely stand on. 2.) if you get damaged, you must reset your save, and cross that damnable gap again! Horror! Your best bet is to jump on "Little Lady's" butt as before, but instead of bouncing off to safety, continue to bounce up and down on Lady's butt until dead. Should take about six hits to finish her. Once's she's defeated, congrats, as you're past the most frustrating part of the game (barring crossing that chasm from right to left). Grab all the dropped oil droplets. Shoot the boxes at the top of the screen for an additional oil drop. Go 1 right.

Click on the gas line on the right side of the building to start a Flappy Bird's style mini game. Tap cn_X to keep the center button from hitting any of the rotating side bars. Upon completion, you'll get an oil droplet and, more importantly, all the gas wells along the gas line will start to flare. Go 2 right.

Kill the two demons on this screen for Demon Slayer (10 of 26) and Demon Slayer (11 of 26), respectively. Don't forget to collect their oil drops. You'll notice two spotty mushrooms and a gas flare on the wheel here. What you need to do is shoot through the gas flare and hit the spotty mushrooms, breaking them (remember you can angle shots with the slingshot as the shot arcs. This may help you a bit). Doing this will reveal a button under one of the mushrooms. press this. The other will reveal a big oil drop. Grab this! Go 1 right.

Get the three droplets here. Go 2 left.

Stand just to the right of the gas flare and shoot through it, attempting to hit the spotty mushroom at the top left of the screen. This will reveal a mushroom you can bounce on. Ignore this for now and head to the top right platform (you may have to get the center platform to swing a bit to make the jump). Go 1 upper right.

Shoot the barrels in this room and pick up the oil drops. Use the portrait here to SAVE YOUR GAME (don't want to do that jump/"Little Lady" section again, do we?) Go 1 left.

Using the central platform, swing it so you can jump to the top left platform. Click on the mushroom to start a conversation with George. Conversation, George: Select "Good thinking George!". Now, use the mushroom to bounce up to a higher platform. CAREFUL! There is a demon up here. Kill it for Demon Slayer (12 of 26). Grab its oil drop (you may have to drop down to do this). Again, on the higher platform, there will be a lamp on the far left you can shoot for another oil drop (you'll have to drop down again to get it). Back up, you'll notice the central platform has a gas flare. Use this to shoot the spotty mushrooms on both the left, right and upper left. The left reveals a big oil drop (grab this!). The right reveals a lit switch. Carefully jump over there and click on the switch (it will start blinking) and jump back. The upper right reveals a bouncing mushroom. Swing the central platform back and forth until you can reach the bouncing mushroom, but before you use it, shoot the object just to its left for another oil drop. Now use the bouncing mushroom to bounce to another swinging platform. CAREFUL! There is a demon up here too. Kill it for Demon Slayer (13 of 26) and grab its oil drop. Use the central gas flare here to shoot the spotty mushroom at the very top left of the screen for another button. You'll have to swing the platform back and forth enough to give you the momentum to jump to the button and click on it -- fortunately, the fall afterwards isn't very far down. Work your way back to the top central platform, then jump to the lower of the two top right platforms (the one without the exploding lights on it). Go 1 right.

Run to the far right and activate the switch here (it will start blinking). Go 1 left.

Jump back to the central platform and rock it back and forth until you get a lot of momentum. On a high upswing right, use that momentum to jump to the upper right platform (with the exploding lights). Shoot the light at the top middle of the screen for another possible oil drop, grab it, then return to this very to right platform. Go 1 right.

Run into the boulder on this platform to knock it into the water stream on the right (if you miss, leave and return here via 1 left, then 1 right). This will cause Pissy the Piss Snake (yes, that is his name) to come out to unblock the falls. Pissy has three targets on him, you need to shoot through the gas flare and hit all three targets before Pissy unblocks the falls (fortunately, hitting ay of the three targets causes Pissy to withdrawal for a few seconds, giving you time to line up another shot). Hitting all three targets will kill Pissy and permanently block the falls -- which is what we're looking to do! Go 1 left.

Drop all the way to the bottom of the screen. Go 1 left.

Talk to Happy. He'll tell you that you need 300 drops for a ticket to Red Wash. Unfortunately, you won't have that much at this point (I had about 105). Thus, we'll need to backtrack and use all the new gas flares to farm oil drop. Go 2 left.

The Sack Chute (pt 2)

Use the gas flare to shoot all the spotted mushrooms and pick up all the oil drops that fall. Go 2 left.

Welcome to the jump on the worst screen of the game. Again, falling into the pit WILL VOID YOUR NO DEATH ACHIEVEMENT, so please please please head to the General section of this guide and familiarize yourself on how to reset your save should you fall into the pit. And you will. Repeatedly.

I'd recommend backtracking a bit to go back to the save portrait before attempting this (Go: 5 right, 1 upper right, to get to the inside room with the portrait, and 6 left to get back) At the portrait, quit and reload the entire game to ensure that your save is now on the cloud, or you'll have to redo some of the sections of the game.

Unfortunately, you can't use the trick to walk on the barrel this time, you'll have to jump. Wait for the box to almost get to the central pipe, jump on the barrel, jump to the next barrel, then jump to the left-hand ledge. Made it? Congrats, you passed the worst part of the game! It’s all downhill from here on in! Go 1 left.

Bounce on the mushroom, go 1 up.

Go 1 left (you'll have to jump up a bit to get to the left exit).

Use the gas flare to shoot the spotty mushroom here. Click on the puzzle to start a picture hunt mini game. There are eight differences in total between the two pictures, click on each difference to solve the puzzle (they are: extra plank on the central lower roof, Mr. Pinstripe in the upper window of the house, the differently shaped moon, the missing rail above the fence on the right, the missing dog along lower right of house, missing flower along the bottom left, missing star on the middle left, and the chimney smoke). Completing this will break some bars on the right-hand side of the screen, allowing you to pick up a big oil drop. Go 2 left.

Use the gas flare here to break the spotted mushroom and pick up the big oil drop. Go 2 left.

Save at the portrait so you never have to do the right-side barrel jump ever again (or at least, in a situation where you can't die). Go 1 left into Hangley Pass.

Hangley Pass (pt 3)

Go 2 left.

Go 1 upper left.

Go 1 right.

Shoot the left wheel until you can safely go under the log. Go 1 right. Bounce off the mushroom to the upper left platform. Go 1 upper left.

Use the gas flare here to shoot the spotted mushroom and grab the oil drop. Go 1 right.

Step on the left platform to move the gas flare to the bottom. Shoot through the gas flare to the spotted mushroom and grab the oil drop behind it. Go 1 right.

Shoot through the gas flare to the spotted mushroom to create a bouncing mushroom. Use the bouncing mushroom to reach the big oil drop at the top of the screen. Go 2 right.

Watch out, the respawning demon is here! Take it out for safety. Once this is done, we'll have to shoot the spotted mushroom, though this shot is tricky. One way to do it is to shoot straight up from the gas flare and hope the burning shot lands on the mushroom and do small adjustments until it finally hits. A slightly easier way is to jump when right below the flare and shoot at the top of your jump, shooting through the flare and hitting the mushroom. Either way, a bouncing mushroom appears. Use this to bounce to the upper right platform. Go 1 right.

Jump to the center platform and swing it back and forth, building momentum. At the top of the right swing, use the momentum to jump to the top right platform. Break the box here. Go 1 right.

Grab the big oil drop here. There is a store here that sells the dog sweater -- unfortunately, we'll have to wait until next run to use the store (it’s too expensive to purchase right now). Go 1 left.

Jump to the center platform and swing it back and forth, building momentum. At the top of the lkeft swing, use the momentum to jump to the top left platform. Go 2 left.

Fall between the bridge spans and grab the two oil drops on the way down. Go 1 down.

Go 1 left.

Shoot the right wheel until the log is high enough to safely pass under. Go 4 left into EdgeWood.

EdgeWood (pt 3)

Go 2 left.

Use the gas flare to shoot both spotty mushrooms, revealing a bouncy mushroom. Before using this though, lets enter the door here.

Talk to Princle to start a mini game. Here you'll have to shoot all the balloons before they fall. Easiest way to do this is just to stand in the middle of the screen and not move from there, and just target the gates as they open (the balloons start forming slightly below the center of each gate. You can pre-target a balloon when you see a gate open, so you should never be surprised by a balloon. A very easy mini game once you know what to do. Complete three rounds to get a conversation. Conversation, Princle: Select "That's very kind!". Pick up the black cube (it’s worth mega amounts of oil, which we desperately need). Talk to Princle to restart the game, and upon completing it a second time, you'll receive Filmstrip (4 of 5). Go 1 left.

Use the mushroom we freed earlier to bounce up to the top left platform. Go 1 upper left.

Grab the three oil drops from the top of the train. Go 2 left.

Use the gas flare to shoot the spotted mushrooms on the tree here. Grab the big oil drop. Go 1 left.

Tricky shot here. You'll have to fire directly up at the gas flare here and hope the shot arcs down and lands on the spotted mushroom. Make small adjustments until you finally hit it (it will take a bit of time, don't get frustrated). Use the newly freed bouncing mushroom to reach the upper left platform. Go 1 left.

Another demon that respawns! Kill it for Demon Slayer (14 of 26). Note: it may take up to seven shots to kill this one. We'll be right back to collect those oil drops. Go 1 right.

Go 1 left.

You'll need the demon's bombs to help you catapult up and collect all the drops at the top of the screen. Push the catapult to below the first drop (with the drop directly above the right part of the catapult). Now, stand in the basket below the left part and wait for the demon to release a bomb. Once it does, QUICKLY move back to the right side to avoid getting hit. (If you get hit by a bomb, you'll have to reset your save.) If done correctly, the bomb will get caught in the net on the left-hand side of the catapult and explode. When it does, it should shoot you into the air, allowing you to get the drop you were directly under, and if you're lucky, another one on the way down. Repeat until all drops are collected. Don't forget the break the jar on the far left and right for more oil drops. Go 8 right into Hangley Pass.

Hangley Pass (pt 4)

Go 1 right.

Go 1 lower right.

Enter the tree.

Go 1 right.

The Sack Chute (pt 3)

Turn on your light. Feel free to use the portrait to save your game (it’s a very good idea here as you have your last barrel jump coming up). Go 1 right.

Go 1 lower right.

Go 3 right.

Go 1 down.

Go 1 right.

Last time across the pit! Final reminder: falling into the pit WILL VOID YOUR NO DEATH ACHIEVEMENT, so please please please head to the General section of this guide and familiarize yourself on how to reset your save should you fall into the pit.

You've done this before, but as a reminder, its best to try to try to just walk onto the barrels. Should this not work for you, try jumping to the barrel when its approach the middle of the gap (i.e., when it’s just about under the water pipe.) Remember to jump off before hitting the opposite side of the gap. Go 3 right into Pissward Falls.

Pissward Falls (pt 2)

At this point, if you've followed the guide, you should have over 300 tickets (I had 307). If not, you'll have to backtrack and break some lights and barrels to top you off. If so, you can speak to Happy and purchase a Lift Ticket (Clue #6 of 9). Code on the back say 123 331. Go 3 right.

Shoot the orbs on top of the scree in order (from left to right): 1,2,3,3,3,1 (just like the lift ticket code). Enter the lift and ride it to Red Wash.

Red Wash

Go 1 right to exit the lift.

Go 1 left.

Grab all the oil drops on the ground (we no longer need them for this run, but they carry over to the next run, and we'll need them to buy all sorts of stuff to unlock achievements). Go 1 left.

Use the bouncing mushroom to grab the oil drop, then use it again to land on the well (grabbing the second drop). Shoot the well cap to break the well open, falling in. Go 1 down.

Shoot all the barrels in this room to reveal Miss Birdy. Talk to her. Conversation, Miss Birdy: Select "It really is!". You'll receive the spoon from Miss Birdy. Stand on the left platform and shoot the upper center target to get launched out of the well. Go 1 up.

Go 3 right.

Conversation, Daniel: Select any. Use any signature on the form you want, or none (this makes no difference). Use the portrait here to save your game if you wish (I would). Go 1 right.

Talk to Felix. Conversation, Felix: Select "If you say so man". Go 1 right.

Shoot the gas well to get it to flare, then shoot through the flare at the spotted mushroom to create a bouncing mushroom. Feel free to shoot the balloons here as well (this will start an optional conversation with George later). Click on the notice to start a conversation with George. Conversation, George: Select "That's terrible...". Use the mushroom to bounce to the upper platform. Go upper left.

Haven't seen a demon in a while. Kill it for Demon Slayer (15 of 26). Shoot the balloons if you like. Go 1 upper right.

Shoot the balloons here if you like. Crossing the screen will trigger a conversation with Mr. Pinstripe. Conversation, Mr. Pinstripe: Select "(Hold your tongue)". Go 1 right.

Drop down to the bottom and use the gas flare to shoot the spotted mushroom to reveal a bouncing mushroom. Speak to the reveller on the building if you'd like. Shoot out the beam blocking the left passage, then enter the building.

Talk to Jack at the right side of the bar. Conversation, Jack: Select "Sure, I love parties!". Go 1 right.

Talk to the unnamed man slumped at the end of the table. Conversation, ...: Select "I'm so sorry.". Now for another annoying part -- you need to stand above the pool balls on the table, and shoot down at them, causing them to ricochet up and hopefully into the basket at the top left. You will miss A LOT. Fortunately, all the balls that miss roll back to the left edge of the table, allowing you to try again and again and again. Get enough in and you can jump from the table to this basket and onto the platform on the top left; HOWEVER, if you have the patience, and get every ball into the basket, you will receive Filmstrip (5 of 5) and the ability to play the game in "Vintage Mode" on your next one (aka black-and-white and grainy) Doing this is not required for an achievement however, so if you get too frustrated, you can always skip it. Either way this will take you some time and some patience. Get enough balls into the basket so you can get to the upper left platform. Go 1 upper left.

Jump to the upper center shelf and grab the fork. Go 1 left.

Go 1 right.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (16 of 26). Go 2 right.

Grab the oil drops along the path here. Go 1 right.

Click on the note on the boarded-up window to get the time "8:10 pm". Go 2 left.

Jump on the center platform and shoot the target at the top of the building to catapult you to the top left platform. Go 1 upper left.

Jump to the upper left platform. Break the balloons if you like. Go 2 left.

Talk to the clock minder if you'd like, then click on the big clock in the center of the room. Click cn_X twice to add the spoon and fork as "hands". Rotate the hands using cn_RB and cn_LB until the clock reads 8:10 (the spoon is the hour hand, and the fork is the minute hand). The room will shake, and the time will change to 8:10. Go 2 right.

Pop the balloons if you wish. It’s at this point the conversation with George may start (if not, no worries, you still have plenty of opportunities). Conversation, George: Select "I'm sorry George!" Drop down. Go 1 lower left.

Go 1 left.

Click on the giant safe for another Flappy Birds game. Finish this to reveal 4-5 oil drops and Torn Paper 1/3 (Clue #7 of 9) (there are two more parts to this clue we need to pick up). Go 3 right.

Stand on the center platform and shoot the target at the top of the building to launch you to the right upper platform. Go 1 upper right.

Another safe. Another Flappy Birds game. Finish this to reveal 6-8 oil drops and Torn Paper 2/3 (Clue #7 of 9). Go 1 left.

Go 1 lower right.

Go 1 right.

Window's open now. Talk to Happy -- he'll want to exchange 10 fresh sacks for a newspaper. He'll give you Torn Paper 3/3 (Clue #7 of 9) to help. Turn your now completed paper over to see a new time -- 2:30. Go 2 left.

Jump onto the central platform and shoot the target at the top of the building to launch you onto the top left platform. Go 1 upper left.

Jump across the gap to the upper left platform. Go 2 left.

Click on the clock. Move the hands to 2:30 (again, the spoon is the hour, and the fork is the minute). Go 1 right.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (17 of 26). Grab the sack (1/10) and the oil it drops. Go 1 right.

Drop to the lower platform. Go 1 lower left.

Enter the door.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (18 of 26). Grab the sack (2/10) and the oil it drops. Go 1 right.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (19 of 26). Grab the sack (3/10) and the oil it drops. Go 2 right.

Use the bouncing mushroom to get to the upper platform. Go 1 upper left.

Swirly! Mr. Pinstripe and Dark Bo! Click on the door to start a mini game. In this one you must click on all six buttons with your lock pin before the buttons release again. On controller, this is really, annoying -- my best advice is to spin the lick pin relatively fast and mash the cn_X button and hope you get most of the buttons in one spin, then quickly knock out the rest. Again, patience is key here. On completion, you will automatically enter the house.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (20 of 26). Grab the sack (4/10) and the oil it drops. Break the balloons if you like as well. Go 2 left.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (21 of 26). Grab the sack (5/10) and the oil it drops. Break the balloons if you like as well. Go 1 lower right.

Break the balloons if you like. Go 1 left.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (22 of 26). Grab the sack (6/10) and the oil it drops. Go 1 left.

Click on the portrait and save if you wish. Click on the record player. As the music plays, again do nothing for about a minute or so. Eventually, a cardinal will appear on the locked safe on the right. Touching this bird will give you Phonograph (3 of 3), unlocking the safe here, which you can now click on to pick up the Infinite Songbird Rifle. This replaces your slingshot as your main weapon, and wow is it much better than the slingshot. Enjoy! Try it out by shooting the mugs/dishes on the bar for an oil droplet. Go 1 left.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (23 of 26) (wow! So much easier!). Grab the sack (7/10) and the oil it drops. Go 1 left.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (24 of 26). Grab the sack (8/10) and the oil it drops. Go 1 left.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (25 of 26). Grab the sack (9/10) and the oil it drops. Go 5 right.

Use the bouncing mushroom here to get to the upper platform. Go 1 upper left.

Go 1 upper right.

Go 1 right.

Drop down to the lower lever. Go 1 right.

Kill the demon here for Demon Slayer (26 of 26). Grab the sack (10/10) and the oil it drops. If it hasn't unlocked already (it unlocked for me early around demon 20, but it may be different for you), you should now unlock:

Go 2 right.

Talk to happy. Give him the sacks and he'll give you Newspaper (Clue #8 of 9). Inspect it to see Pinstripe's death year of 1922. Go 3 left.

Use the bouncing mushroom to get to the upper platform. Go 1 upper left.

Enter the house.

Jump on Pinstripes bed and click on the headboard. Input the code 1-9-2-2. NOTE: This is the point of no return, so if you need to retrieve anything, such as more demon kills, the Infinite Songbird Rifle, any of the 5 film strips of the first 8 of nine clues, do it now or you'll have to finish it in subsequent runs. Once the code is in, the bed will rise into the final room of the game.

Last fight, last chance to lose your no damage run! Again, before ascending, it may be worthwhile to save your game at the front desk of Red Wash and turn of and restart the game to make sure the save sticks.

Chat with Bo for a bit, and when you're back in control, shoot the mirror to release Mr. Pinstripe, starting the final boss fight of the game!

First off, Pinstripe will launch lightning bolts at you. Make sure to get out of the way of these (you'll see where they're going to land beforehand as the floor will be marked). After the lightning strike, you have a few seconds where Pinstripe's shields are down to shoot him. After this, Pinstripe will snap his hands and summon demons. Kill these as fast as possible, while watching the floor for lightning strikes. Repeat this cycle a few times (should only be 3-4 with the rifle) and you'll beat him easily. When Pinstripe is defeated, he'll drop Whiskey Bottle (Clue #9 of 9). Pick this up to unlock:

You can save here (no need, we're right at the end). From here, walk into the mirror. Go 1 right.

Stand on the button to open the door to the exit. Run to the exit, failing to go through. Repeat this several times and George will stand on the button for you. Go 1 right.

Go 1 right. Pick up Bo. Go 2 right. During this run through the house, you should unlock:

Grab the butterfly here (this is used in the Lepidopterist achievement but as you need more than this run-through allows, we'll have to get this achievement the second go-round). Go 1 left

Grab the three butterflies here. Go 1 left.

Grab the four butterflies here. Go two right, triggering the end screen.

If you took no damage at all during the entire initial run, at this point you will receive:

Also, you'll now have the golden key that will let you unlock the secret rooms in run two of the game. These rooms are filled with oil droplets (and butterflies) and will make buying things in the game much easier the second go around. Speaking of which, now that this game is done, you can feel free to restart your game for the second playthrough, where we unlock the bad ending, the secret rooms, and buy all the shop items.

Playthrough Two Overview

This playthrough will be much more fun than the first, I promise.

Since we finished one run of the game already, we now have the golden key that lets us into all sorts of hidden areas, filled with things to find and/or buy (along with a LOT more achievement to unlock than in the first run).

Also, we no longer have to worry about a no-damage run! YAY! Take all the damage you like from now on, as no achievements will be voided.

One last change from the first run, we will no longer be going to the good (i.e. "SUN") conversation points, and instead will be going for the bad (i.e. "MOON") conversation points. These will always appear on the right, which is a little more problematic as if you are mashing the button to skip dialog as you may miss these opportunities. To be safe on this run, do not mash through dialog. As there isn't too much dialog in this game anyway, this shouldn't slow you down much. Doing this will unlock:

Not So Nice Guy

Be a complete butt head.

Not So Nice Guy
1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissable

As the first and second run are almost identical (again you want to pick up as much oil drops as possible), I won't be doing a step-by-step guide here. Instead, follow through the instructions in playthrough one (with the exception of select the bad "Moon" options as outlined above) This time around though, there are three secret areas and three shops that need visiting, so I've noted below where they are and when you can visit them within the game. Simply complete these instructions along with the instructions in playthrough one to complete playthrough two.

(Oh, and don't bother collecting the phonographs/Infinite Songbird Rifle this playthrough, as we'll be buying a much better gun).

EdgeWood Additional

From the starting screen, go 1 right. See that gate that wasn't open-able in the first playthrough? Well, now you have the key! Walk up to it and click on it to open the game, head in.

Shoot all the gravestones to get a wealth of oil drops. Go 1 left.

Shoot all the gravestones here as well and grab the oil drops. Three of the gravestones will release butterflies. Be sure to grab all three to get Lepidopterologist (1,2 & 3 of 13). You may have to use the swinging platform on the right to grab the top butterfly, as it likes to stay near the top of the screen. Also note -- the butterflies follow you once you catch them, so you can do a visual count if needed.

Hangley Pass Additional

Remember the very conspicuous door you couldn't enter last time in Hangley Pass, right after the stone that drops after shooting out the brace? Its on the screen with the broken bridge, right before the house with the re-spawning demon. To get there from the starting screen, go 1 right, 1 upper right, 2 right, 1 upper left (using the bouncing mushroom to get to the top left platform, you'll need George to dig up the mushroom), 1 upper right. 2 right. With the golden key, you can now enter this door.

Shoot the barrels on the left and right for a huge number of oil drops. Now jump from branch to branch, working your way up the tree. Halfway up, a box will block a branch -- shoot it to release a butterfly. Grab it for Lepidopterologist (4 of 13). Continue up the tree, grabbing oil drops as you go, and noting the two strings of oil drops on either side of the tree. At the top, click on the alter if you'd like, and jump straight up to grab the top oil drop. Now, jump off the left side of the tree and grab every oil drop on the way down. Climb back to the very top of the tree and repeat the jump off, this time though off the right side.

There's so many oil drops in this room, at this point you should be unlocking:

Now that your flush with cash (er ... oil), time to start getting the "buying" achievements. Upon entering EdgeWood the second time, go 5 left to the screen with the house.

Shoot out the support brace to the far left of the screen, and enter the cave. Here you'll find one of Happy's stores, where he'll sell you the Tommy Gun ... for 1000 oil. OUCH! Having done the first two secret rooms at this point, you should have the money/oil, so pay it and unlock:

Work your way down the platforms, grabbing oil drops as you go and shooting open boxes for huge amounts of oil drops. The third box down also contains a butterfly. Make sure to grab this for Lepidopterologist (5 of 13). (You can count your butterflies, make sure you have five at this point). Click on the alter at the bottom if you'd like, then grab all the oil drops at the bottom of the screen. Work your way back up the platforms, head out the door, and continue the Sack Chute as normal.

Pissward Falls Additional

Thanks to the secret rooms, we now find ourselves flush with cash and can buy the Red Wash ticket straight off, without having to backtrack to unlock more oil. Feel free to do so. You'll still have to activate the pipe flares though (to get the sixth butterfly, see below), and defeat Pissy the Piss Snake here at the falls, so its worth doing this section as per run-through one, even with the ticket in hand. Once done, head back to the Sack Chute as per run-through one...

The Sack Chute (pt 2) Additional

Time to grab the sixth butterfly. From the start of the map, head 3 left, 1 up, 1 left. Use the gas flare to shoot the spotted mushroom to reveal the picture puzzle, as per the first run-through. Shooting the spotted mushroom will also release a butterfly above the picture, make sure you jump up and grab it for Lepidopterologist (6 of 13). Again, do a count and make sure you have six butterflies at this point. If so, no more worrying about them until the very end of the game. Continue on the Sack Chute as normal into Hangley Pass Part 3.

Hangley Pass (pt 3) Additional

Follow the directions in Hangley Pass, pt 1 to get you to the bridge where the second secret door was, then head 1 right to the house with the regenerating demon flying around it. Use the gas flare here to trick-shot the spotted mushroom to reveal a bouncing mushroom. Use the bouncing mushroom to get to the upper right platform. Go 2 right. Talk to Happy at the store here who offers to sell you the doggie sweater for 400 oil drops. Thanks to the secret rooms, we have plenty of cash, so buy it, unlocking:

Here's the last of the Happy stores. This time, Happy will sell you a dapper hat for 500 oil. Buy this, unlocking:

That's it for the miscellaneous achievements. Your lone goal now is to gather 300+ oil drops by end of game for the Speed Run (following this guide, you should still have roughly 200+ oil drops at this point, even after buying all the Happy merchandise). If you don't meet this goal, don't worry, we can get the 300+ oil drops needed for the Lift Ticket very quickly with a two minute detour into a secret room.

Continue with the game until you defeat Pinstripe.

Red Wash Additional

This entire run, you should have been picking the bad "moon" dialogue options. If so, once you defeat Pinstripe (simplistic now that we have the Tommy Gun and aren't afraid to take hits), enter the mirror. Do the button/door sequence and enter the door.

Speed Demon

Speed Demon

If not, no worries, we'll get it in the final speed run (which should only take you about fifteen minutes).

Playthrough Three Overview

If you don't have the speedrun achievement at this point, it’s time to get it. Good news -- this should only take you about 15 to 20 minutes of your time if you've followed the guide so far (and have 300+ oil stored up).

Here's the good news -- because we don't have to collect oil (or if we need to, just stop into one secret room to get it), we can skip a good 33% of the game by not having to backtrack and use the gas flares to get oil.

Here's the bad news -- having played this twice, you think you can skip big sections of the game as you already know all passwords and clock times. Except you can't -- you cannot enter the passwords into devices or move the clock hands to certain times until you get the clues that would have shown you what the password would have been (i.e., the medicine bottle, Bo's Note, all three pieces of the Torn Note, and the Newspaper). Therein, you'll still need to do some collecting along the way, just not any collecting of oil.

Below is the stripped-down version of run-through one, with all extraneous actions removed. Doing the below should easily get you the speedrun achievement -- you have an hour and following the list below, you should be done in about 20 minutes or so.
