Dark Grim Mariupolis

Title Screen

Introducing “Dark Grim Mariupolis”, a point'n'click adventure game set in a world, combining noir, Greek mythology, magic, mysticism, hopeless entourage of Greco-Roman Age of Decadence and stifling everyday routine. Encourage yourself and step into darkness… Enter Mariupolis, a dark place accompanied with confusing, strange music of no visible source. You are some sort of a detective, and therefore you need to investigate, but why? That’s the thing you’re going to find out… or, maybe not. Everything depends on you and the sudden whims of Pentaculus, a grim god stretching its hands out over the whole city. Investigate and solve puzzles, while resisting the dark and obscure grasp of Mariupolis, where the only things guarding you against its baneful influence are sarcasm and arrogance. And be aware – your hero might actually die.

-Credit goes to Microsoft for its lovely description.

The game is developed by Team Mariupolis and published by Xitilon. It was released on October 9, 2020. This game was part of the games that Microsoft forced Xitilon to revert the achievements back to the originals, so those of you that already played it, will likely need to play it again for the TUs. If you haven't played it before, you should be able to do just 1 playthrough and get all achievements in less than 1 hour.

A little bit about me - This is my first walkthrough. I played the 'easy' version of the base game, so if something doesn't seem right, shoot me a message on here, or Discord at Kaiteh#2266. I welcome constructive criticism.

To walk in this game you must move the cursor to an area and press cn_A. You may also click on interaction points and the detective will walk to it and interact.

There will be an un-skippable cut scene at the beginning. Once it is over, walk to the right and you will speak to an NPC that is pushing a cart. You may choose any dialogue option to respond with. Continue walking to the right to get to the next screen setting, the bar. Click on the door and you will walk up to it. Once you get there, you will have a conversation with the guy beside it. Choose any dialogue option and once it is over, you will continue going inside.

Then speak to the Warlock (the guy behind the counter on the left with the moustache and hat). Exhaust the dialogue options with him and then click the stairs on the right to go down into the Viking's bar. Walk to the left and speak to Wolfil about the key on his chest. Choose these dialogue options:

"You know, this key on your chest looks anything but Viking."
"Yes, yes, the villa. This key makes you look like a maid."
"And this key does not fit your rude Viking helmet."

Next, click the left box with the fish on it and take it. Walk back to the right and use cn_leftcn_right to cycle over to the key in your inventory and click the locker with it.

Once you are back on the top floor of the bar, walk to the left and talk to the Warlock again. A goblet looking cup will appear to the left of your head, click it and a dream-like thing will happen and you will pass out. During the cutscene, you should get your first achievement.

Click through the dialogue to wake up and you will appear in your house. Click the left door to go into the Office. Click on the computer in the middle of the room. Click on the green word and red word and then click on the + sign followed by the bottom right box that says yellow. This will create a yellow color choice. Click the red again followed by the + sign, then move the cursor to the right and click the orange box. This will create an orange color. Now click the printer that says "READY" on it. The postcard will print out and you will have your next achievement.

Click the door on the right and go back into the original room. Then click the right door to go to Dino. Once in that room, click on the Dinosaur to the right.

End the dialogue options by saying you will talk to the priest. Go back into the office and click on the computer again. Read the email from the chief.

This next achievement is missable.

Use the key from your inventory on the left door to unlock it and leave.

Once outside, you should have a fish appear in the top right of the screen. Press cn_Y to get a hint. Do this four more times for 5 hints in total, then you'll pop:

Now you're outside, click to the left to load the city map and click on the Pentatonic Temple. You will talk to the guy pushing the cart again. Speak to the guy outside the temple and then click on the door to the right of him to enter. Once inside speak to the Pentatonic Priest right in front of you.

You must challenge the priest to a duel before talking with him further, or you will miss an achievement.

Scroll through the dialog and challenge him to a duel to get another achievement.

  • Bretteur

Ask the priest for a duel.

After this, leave the conversation and speak with the Chief on the right of the screen, which pops;

Exhaust all conversation. After that, return to the priest and you should get an option to say "What style is the Pentatonic Temple built in?". The priest gives a long, overly complicated answer that you'd usually have to read and remember the right details. Luckily though, this does not change and the required answer is rigorism. Follow that line of questioning until the end.

Speak with the Chief again and tell him that you have found what style the temple was built in and select whatever word the priest said.

  • Report

    Finish the report

Once you are done talking, leave the temple and go back to the bar, which is the top left icon on the map. Click on the strange man inside the right side of the bar. Go inside the bar and speak to the guy sweeping the floor (Scrubman) about a book. Save in a new slot here. Go downstairs and go all the way to the left, past Wolfil and speak to Sergio.

In the dialogue make sure you duel him and die.

Reload that checkpoint and speak to Sergio again but make sure you use the okay option, not the duel option. Head back upstairs and speak to the Warlock to exhaust all dialogue options. Speak to the Arrowman beside the stairs about a beer and tell him you will help him after you speak about the church. Go back outside and open up the map. Go to the house and into Dino's room again. Speak to Dino about his diary and say you need them for your investigation. Go back outside to the map and head to the Kiryat Temple. Walk to the right and enter the temple. Speak to the priest about your friend.

  • Kiryats

    Talk to the Kiryat priest

Leave the temple and click the loudspeaker on the left. You will see three voltmeters, two of which have numbers and the middle will be set to 0. On the right, you will see a number which is your target voltage, to make sure all switches are in the "On" position. Use the dials to the left of the meters to adjust the numbers. These numbers are random, so I can't tell you the exact result, however there is a formula you can use to calculate them.

Middle voltage = ((Right voltage x 3) - top voltage) - bottom voltage.

After solving this, press the button on the right under the right-hand number to fix the loudspeaker.

Go back into the temple and speak to the priest. Leave the temple and head back to your house. Use the screwdriver on the robot laying on the left side of your lawn. Press X to extract the microphone and follow this pattern for the code. You may click on each square to turn it white/dark. o's will represent dark and x will represent white. Then click the knob right above the number 81 and you will receive another achievement.

Head back to the temple and give the priest the microphone. Head back to the bar and enter it. Give the letter to the arrowman by the stairs. Head back out and back home.

This next achievement is missable.

Enter the house and use the hammer on the computer, before using it on the piggy bank in the corner to get a coin. If you do this the other way around, you'll lose the hammer and need to reload an earlier save.

  • Luddite

Intimidate your PC with a hammer

Now head to the X on the top middle of the map. Use the coin on the mechanical horse to receive Fugu's song then walk to the right to move the camera and click the safe (blinking tall thing) on the far right. Use the arrow keys around the die to input the code "1264". Click the items and cycle through the pages.

You'll grab a felt tip here, head back to the Kiryat temple, click the book on the bench and choose a title. Take this book back to Scrubman in the bar and trade it for a crown. Travel to the Pentatonic temple and talk to the Pentatonic guitarist that's stood outside and trade the crown for a tuning fork.

Head back to your house and use the tuning fork on the piano.

Then head back to the Pentatonic Temple and use Fugu's song on the priest. Next, walk over and click the sword and shield. Head back out to the bar, walk downstairs and click the unicorn box in the middle. Try to go back upstairs and challenge the Viking guard to a duel. You will win and get another achievement.

Head back upstairs now and use the biters on the Warlock. Open the menu and save your game in a slot. Grab the goblet right beside you and go back downstairs and give the drink to Sergio. Next, head outside to the mysterious guy leaning on the building and tell him "going down and going up is the same thing". In this secret bar, talk to the guy on the left side of the bar and challenge him to a duel to unlock about achievement.

Finish speaking to the guy by going through all the options and head back out the door you came in. Save again in a different slot and head downstairs. Challenge Sergio to a duel to unlock another achievement.

Load up your last save and speak to Sergio without dueling him. Go upstairs and exit the bar. Go to the right to open the map and head to Naropolus' house. Save in a new slot and head inside the house. There is a code you must enter in the form of a keypad but with animals instead of numbers. Using this code:

1 - dog
2 - cat
3 - rooster
4 - ostrich
5 - dolphin
6 - seahorse
7 - eagle
8 - elk
9 - scorpion

The code is 42516 and then press enter. You will get another achievement from this.

Once inside, click the map on the wall and then go back out to the street and click the house with the ??? above it in the centre of the map. Enter the house to find yourself surrounded by doors. Stand there for a few minutes until you get the next achievement for waiting on the elevator.

  • Zen

Wait for an elevator for a while

    1 guideOnline Game ModeSingle Player

Now, press the start button and walk into the opened elevator. Keep walking right through the doors and pick up the book and read it. Go back out the door and follow your shadow self to get back outside. Head back to the bar and finish the dialogue.

Congratulations, you've beaten the game!

The credits will roll. When they are done, as long as you reloaded your save after killing Sergio, you will earn yourself the last 2 achievements.

Congrats on your completion!
