Child of Eden

Welcome to the Child of Eden walkthrough! In this guide I hope to explain and give tips on the most efficient route to 1000gs. Child of Eden will take both practice and patience to achieve 100%, but isn't the unbeatable juggernaut the ratio would otherwise suggest. Also while this game is compatible with Kinect, it is a lot more difficult to get some of the harder achievements, for which I would recommend using a controller.

There are three main goals of each archive - 800k, 100% and the gold star, which is doing both on the same run; therefore, I have created gold star videos for most archives and difficulty. If you are aiming for just the 800k or 100%, this should still be useful, as it shows you where the points are obtained and where all the enemies are.

Completion

During this stage you will want to play through the game on normal and hard, without worrying about your score or purification percentage, simply completing and learning the levels.

Skills

Once you have got to know the stages, start working on further goals. I would recommend trying for the 100% first, followed by the gold star - learn the pattern, then learn the beat. As mentioned above, gold stars are awarded for hitting 800k and 100% in the same run, and are very challenging; the Hard stages in particular can be rather frustrating.

Hope Archive

Now that you are almost done, you will want to finish the Hope archive. This is a twenty minute stage, a few minutes longer than Journey, and without trying to go for a high score, easily the most difficult stage in the game.

Lumi's Garden and Ultimate Compiler

Basic cleanup at this point--get any rewards you've yet to obtain if you've managed to gold star both difficulties in under twelve attempts, and finish up any extras you've yet to unlock.

Good luck!

Glossary

Octa-Lock / Perfect Octa-Lock - A fully charged shot from the lock-on laser (A button), releasing it to the beat of the music makes it perfect and ups the multiplier. The two terms are used interchangeably, as if you have an octa-lock, you should always go for the beat.

Scoring Strategies

The five star cutoff is rated at 800k points for every archive. The key to hitting these marks is to not simply shoot everything on screen, but to consistently achieve perfect octa-locks. To achieve a perfect octa-lock, you will have to acquire 8 targets and then release it in time with the beat. I find this much easier to do with the controller than trying to time a wrist flick on the Kinect. While I've heard that the controller vibrates in time to the beat, frankly, I never noticed it in 20 hours of game time. If you're having trouble keeping with the beat on scoring runs, go into the options menu and turn the sound effects down to nothing or almost nothing - you'd be amazed how much of the music gets drowned out by the other sounds of the game.

The multiplier, which goes up to x8, is the most critical aspect of scoring high. However, the multiplier only activates on an octalock. Firing at less than eight targets will not cause you to lose your multiplier. If you are slightly off-beat and score a "good" rating, your multiplier remains intact. The only way to lose your multiplier is to fire an octalock completely off beat, so if you have eight targets, make sure you fire on time, even if bullets are coming at you.

Furthermore, knowing the levels is just as critical as octalocking to scoring high. Going for every octalock will result in losing your 100% purification; you'll need to know when to go for octalocks and when to start spamming the A button to quickly take things out. In the gold star videos, I will point out when you want to octalock and when you want to spam, and in some cases, like Beauty, how many Octalocks you can get off before switching strategies.

All were not created equal in this game; not everything will give you points. For example, the gateways and the lotus petals are not worth points, so attempting to perfect octalock them is a risk for nothing. The only reason you would want to is to if you lost your multiplier and need to get it back quickly. Conversely, schools of fish like in Matrix and Evolution can be locked onto and if you are fast you can score points off of these, despite the fact they don't count for purification.

Lastly, you will get a 100k Euphoria bonus for finishing the level with all 3 euphoria unused. It is important to learn which enemies drop them (2 per archive) and trying not to use them. You get 100k for 3, 50k for 2 and only 25k if you have one. This is a major part in scoring high as it means that you will only have to finish with 700k if you can consistently get all 3 euphorias. On later Hard levels, aim for 750k to give yourself some wiggle room to use a euphoria.

Gold Star Strategies

Acquiring a gold star is very challenging and in some ways requires a different mindset. The key is to balance killing enemies quick enough before they go offscreen for the 100%, and still killing them with perfect octa locks to hit the score target. While balancing, the most important thing is that if you drop below 100% in an area, you've lost the gold star, so there are sections where octalocks are not feasible and you'll need to spam. Knowing how much time you have to kill certain enemies is key. Go for the 100% first and foremost, the 800k tends to come from preserving your multiplier.

Turbo Controllers

A turbo controller will make Hope and 100% purification far simpler, but others will be made much more difficult. For 100% purification, a turbo controller will help in almost all respects and make it much easier. The exception is whenever one enemy spawns more enemies, like the pods in Beauty that spawn enemies one at a time. If these are purified too quickly, the 100% is lost; having done these achievements with a turbo controller, I found I was more likely to accidentally fire on them while turboing.

However, it is altogether useless for stars. As mentioned above, the five star cutoff is 800k points, with a gold star being awarded for 100% purification on top of that. The vast majority of points will be obtained through octalocks, which you simply won't get with a turbo controller. For that reason, the guide has been written as a gold star guide and will assume you don't have turbo capabilities.

Beauty
  • Purify each butterfly in Beauty Area 1 using a single Octa-Lock.

Note that it isn't a single perfect Octa-Lock. If you're having trouble with this, come back later, as getting a perfect Octa-Lock on these takes really good timing.

  • Purify the Lotus Boss in Beauty Area 4 in under 3'30".

Nothing but spam, but you won't get this the first time around following this guide. Put it on normal, have all the health you can get, and in the first area, just unload on it without regard for the incoming projectiles. On the second area, open it up and unload on it, but be a bit more conservative when it starts firing on you. If your health is doing just fine, repeat the first area for the last bit and claim your prize.

Passion
  • Purify the Humans in Passion Area 4 in under 45 seconds.
  • Purify the Force Core in Passion Area 7 in under 80 seconds.

This is a fairly straightforward archive that is deceptively difficult to 100%, mainly due to the abundance of missable enemies. This guide will be written for the normal playthrough with additional notes pertaining to hard in bold. Items to pick up are underlined.

Tunnel Intro

These fish take four hits to octalock, so you can get a perfect octalock after aiming for two of them. When a group of five shows up, you can octalock twice and spam the last guy. You'll need to do this fast, as the next enemies won't show up if you take too long. Once you've defeated this next group and the background goes black, you should have 37% purification.

These fish coming in now take one hit, but for the first few, they can be spammed, as they only come in waves of four. There's one wave of eight at the end for another octalock. That wave marks 51% purification, at which point Health Orb #1 appears. (01/10) The fish appear again, and this time you can octalock every group. Following these waves is Euphoria Orb #1. (02/10)

Two more waves of fish, then the octopi show up. Each octopus takes three octalocks to purify. You can start locking on well before they're visible, and it's best to do so while you don't have to aim around wildly to hit each spot.

Ideal score: 75k

Descent

While you have larger enemies like the snakes and purple jellyfish, the real enemies are the smaller fish. If you leave them alone, they will swim off, never to reappear and your 100% will be ruined. Octalock everything else, but spam these guys, and remember they take two hits. The schools of tiny fish do not count towards completion, so don't waste your time.

The purple jellyfish need to be shot with the tracer before octalocking, and the first one drops Health Orb #2 (03/10). At the end, it'll be tempting to octalock the small fish, but just keep spamming them. They'll drop Health Orb #3. (04/10)

Ideal score: 175k

Music Box

You have two enemies here - the ever present and completion reducing fish and the red boxes on the music box. While these fish take one hit, it is imperative to let the boxes finish spawning the fish first; destroy the box, the fish don't show up, no completion. The first group of fish drops Euphoria Orb #2. (05/10) On Hard, all enemies will start shooting at you if you take too long to destroy them.

Additionally, shoot the fish first, as destroying the boxes on the last wave first will cause the fish to disappear. The miniboss breaks through for the first time at 23%. You get no points off of this miniboss, so spam away.

In the second wave, leaving certain fish for too long will cause them to fire at you. The third group drops Health Orb #4. (06/10)

The miniboss breaks through again at 53% and 84%.

Ideal score: 250k.

Speedway

Do not worry about perfect octalocks here; the beat keeps speeding up and losing your multiplier is the big concern. The first group of enemies drop Health Orb #5. (07/10) In addition to the enemies, this section will generate walls in front of you with more spots to shoot as the walls go on. Fail to hit these and lose the 100% and some health, to rub salt in the wound.

The large jellyfish in the third section drops Euphoria Orb #3(08/10) The fifth segment is a serpent that needs to be shot with the tracer first before spammed.

Ideal score: 300k

Matrix Cores

Octalock as much as you can on the serpents, but the smaller enemies aren't really worth it. Speed is of the essence for the end of the core section. A group of jellyfish will pass beside you, they're holding Health Orb #6. (09/10) Don't worry too much about the cores, they don't give you any points. If there's nothing else on screen, you can spam them or use them to repair your multiplier if it gets broken.

When the second and third cores open, they reveal another few enemies who will fire on you. Spam them and keep going. After the third opens, another group will pass beside you, carrying Health Orb #7. (10/10)

If you've cleared everything fast enough, when the fourth core opens, it will reveal two purple jellyfish. Trace them first, as each one takes three octalocks.

Ideal score: 400k

Saving Lumi

I hope you brought your perfect multiplier, because doing well on this section is worth over 300k points. Keep calm, keep the beat, keep octalocking. The first section is shooting orange blocks, and they always come in multiples of eight.

Following this is a core surrounded by purple blocks. You'll have to alternate between shooting them away with the tracer and octalocking the core. I kept the reticule going in a circle to clear away, lock on once or twice, clear away. After this section is a hide and seek game of orange blocks, shoot them all and move on.

Finally, there's worms of corruption surrounding Lumi. Once these are cleared out of the way, the core needs to be cleared. You can rack up the points if you're just short at this point, or if you know the euphoria bonus will take you over, spam away.

Ascent

Before we can worry about score, there are a few single cells that need to be purifed. Spam all of these. Eventually you'll have four show up in a diamond formation: the one on the right holds Health Orb #1. (01/10)

This is an interesting area since even with getting a fair amount of perfect combos there is a lot score that can be milked from this area. The key to getting a high score in this area is to set up as many octalocks as possible. For example shoot 3 cells, then target those 5 and and shoot the other stem with 3 cells for an octalock. Be careful when you are shooting down projectiles that you dont burst any cells. On Hard, it's a bit more important to build your multiplier here.

Once the cells start shooting back at you, there will be one aggressive cell and two single cells. The one on the right holds Health Orb #2. (02/10)

Once you get a hang on knowing how to set up a good amount of octalocks it is possible to score upwards of 50k on this section alone. If you don't have the patience for it though, don't worry, it isn't pivotal to success. You should have enough time to kill the enemies as long as you don't dawdle. When the camera begins to pan upwards the section will end.

Ideal Score: 30k

Sea Creatures

The first thing you need to be aware of is the mini golden mantas that are slightly see-through and are easy to miss. Don't move the camera around too much and you shouldn't miss them. Once you've killed the 2 sets of mantas you will see jellyfish rising. Each one takes two hits, so get four with an octalock. One near the end of the second group holds Health Orb #3. (03/10)

There are also some fish swimming around in this section. This can mess up your octalocks, for instance I had to keep going back over jellyfish because I caught some fish, but the good news is that they don't count for purification. If there's nothing else on screen, try to get a perfect octalock or two.

After the swarm of smaller jellyfish comes the larger jellyfish, accompanied by another 8 mini mantas. The mantas behave exactly as normal, and the large jellyfish takes a full octalock to purify. On Hard, the jellyfish takes two octalocks. If you don't purify the jellyfish fast enough, it will fire on you, and good luck avoiding bullets on Hard.

Eels are the next enemy, and each one takes two octalocks to purify, or three on Hard. If you leave them for too long, some of them will fire. The second snake, or the lower one, holds Euphoria #1. (04/10) There are five eels before you end up face-first in a school of fish, so try to take them out before you get there. The fish can either make them hard to target or give you a nice chunk of points.

Next are some small jellyfish accompanied by a larger one. The first large jellyfish holds Health Orb #4. (05/10) Finally, two schools of fish will appear, and either try to clear them out or octalock them for points; an eel shows up behind them and essentially uses them as a shield. Unless you're really quick, it will fire on you.

Ideal Score: 300k

Seafloor Corridor

First up are some mini mantas, and if you can octalock them, great; I tend to miss one, so I spam the first group at a minimum. The ammonites that come up next must be taken down with the tracer. If there's a glowing appendage, focus on that one briefly so it won't fire on you. In the second group, the one on the right carries Health Orb #5. (06/10)

There's another wave of mini mantas, followed by a large one. It takes three octalocks to purify, but you may want to do two and spam the rest; if he completes his roll, he sends out manta projectiles, which would be nice to avoid. Add one to each number for Hard: Four octalocks to purify, so three and spam. He's also carrying Euphoria #2. (07/10)

After this is another grouping of ammonites, two waves of mini mantas, the last to appear holds Health Orb #7, (08/10) followed by another large manta. Some more ammonites and this section is done.

Ideal Score: 400k

Space

Each gem you have to purify on the whale has a circle spiraling around it, and when it reaches the gem, it fires a bullet at you. If it fires a single bullet at you, you've missed 100%. In the background, there are mantas that take 12 hits, so one perfect octalock followed by spam. The first drops Health Orb #7 (09/10) and the last ones drops Health Orb #8. (10/10) and it doesn't matter which order you do it in.

There's a few times on the whale you can get a perfect octalock, and you should probably take those . If you're above the ideal score coming in, spamming should give you enough points to hit the 470k mark coming in. Surprisingly, spamming is slightly better advice for Hard, as the extra hits on everything result in more points, which means more wiggle room. Anything under 470k is going to be very difficult to hit gold stars. The phoenix isn't too difficult as the beat is fairly strong and the projectile patterns aren't very complex. Just remember that your octalock takes precedence over taking damage, so if you need a few more seconds to get the beat, just take that hit. Think twice about that on Hard; in the video, you'll see that I take a few hits coming in, and double damage adds up quickly. Once Lumi shows up with purification, it's nothing but points. I entered just below 470k and came out with 720k, so a near perfect run will net you 250k here.

This is where the game starts getting a bit difficult, especially on Hard. This is tied for the hardest archive to gold star in the game on Hard. This guide will be written for the normal playthrough with additional notes pertaining to hard in bold. Items to pick up are underlined.

Lake Area

The first enemy is a grouping of seeds that will shoot out pollen enemies. The pollen will take one hit, but the seeds take two - one to open, one to purify. On Hard, early seeds shoot out twice as much pollen and some fire projectiles instead. I tend to use the tracer on the seeds, but to each their own. For a while, there will be no chance to get octalocks; this will change once two seeds shoot out three pollen each. Octalock all of them and finish off the seeds. Once you get your first octalock opportunity, some fliers will come by and hang around on the screen. Leave them too long and they'll fire on you, so destroy them quickly. The second group of fliers drops Health Orb #1. (01/10)

Your next opponents are the butterflies. When their wings are folded and they're spinning, they are invulnerable; once they stop and spread, open fire. One of the extra bonuses is associated with destroying all butterflies in a single octalock, so you'll have practice doing just that. When two butterflies appear, the one on the right is carrying Health Orb #2. (02/10)

The seeds make an appearance, but DO NOT TARGET THEM IMMEDIATELY! These ones behave differently in that they let out a stream of pollen; if they're destroyed during the stream, not all enemies will come out and you'll ruin your 100%. Aim above them and go for the octalock. Some will shoot projectiles again, but the order is always the same. There are six seeds - pollen, pollen, projectiles, pollen, projectiles, projectiles.

While you're dealing with the last seed, four more fliers will show up. Purify them immediately or they'll fire even more projectiles at you. The group on the left will fly by, but the camera will spin around if you don't get them in time. This group is carrying Health Orb #3. (03/10)

The last section of this area combines the original seeds and butterflies. For the most part, save your octalocks for the butterflies, but if your score is high enough, you can get away with spamming them. The second group of seeds shoots projectiles. The next is a group of fliers who cross in front of you which make the last enemies of this section. Open the gate with your tracer and move on.

Ideal Score: 150k.

Plant Life

The biggest enemy here is time; a lot of the enemies will whip by you if you aren't careful. A snake appears with a few smaller fliers. The music starts softly in the beginning, so rather than ruin your multiplier by guessing, just spam until you reach the second snake. This first snake is holding Health Orb #4. (04/10)

My strategy for the snakes is to get two perfect octalocks, then spam. Trying to go for a third generally results in the snake absconding and ruining the 100% purification. Whenever you see the fliers in this area, spam away.

The second area introduce a purple jellyfish. Shoot with the tracer to open him up, then use either weapon to purify him for Euphoria Orb #1. (05/10) The next snake appears shortly thereafter; two octalocks and spam, you don't spend a lot of time here.

Two snakes are in this next area and the strategy shifts slightly: octalock until the fliers show up, purify them, then spam. This should give you enough time for three altogether.

Take out the fliers first, then octalock twice. Another purple jellyfish will show up while the snake absconds; don't worry about this! He'll be back. Once he shows up, you can get one more octalock before another jellyfish. Spam when he comes back for Health Orb #5. (06/10) Another instance of taking out the fliers first, then octalock the snake. A second snake and some fliers will pop by, continue as normal. Once you purify the second snake, you'll find he had Health Orb #6. (07/10) You can octalock the last group of fliers, but I'd rather spam. Take out the gate and move on.

Ideal score: 225k.

Tunnel

The strategy here changes on difficulty. Normal, you want to focus on octalocks, but on Hard, focus on surviving, so spam if you must.

Creatures will pop up and fly away from you. On Hard these take two hits and will fire projectiles back. When all eight appear in a stream, you may want to consider spamming instead of octalocking. Don't consider it on Hard, spam on this one, but octalock the one before it with only four. The second stream is fine to octalock, though. This group has Euphoria Orb #2. (08/10)

The next enemy is a larger version that takes a full octalock to purify and drops a stream of projectiles back. It can be difficult to keep up with the projectiles, so if you're getting overwhelmed, consider spamming and taking a hit or two in the name of 100%. The last one holds Health Orb #7. (09/10)

For the last group, octalocks come easier, but you'll eventually get turned around. The last two groups will be a stream that comes at you. The first is fine, but the second will speed right past and around you. Take them out quickly before the gate. You may need to resort to Euphoria here, but it's entirely possible to get them via spamming. This group has the last item, Health Orb #8. (10/10)

Ideal Normal score: 375k

Ideal Hard score: 300k

Lotus

For the first section, you'll want to focus on survival first. Unless you're confident in your skills, you don't want to charge an octalock with incoming projectiles. The boss will fire four patterns before stopping, this is where you'll want to get in an octalock or two. If you're quick, you can sneak an octalock in between patterns occasionally.

In the second form, miniature petals open up to be shot down. DO NOT USE YOUR OCTALOCK HERE. These give you no points, the only thing you can accomplish is losing your streak. The flower is gathering energy at this point, signified by energy lines behind it. If you don't shoot them all in time and the lines converge, they will all close and the flower will fire on you. If this happens, a quick arc around the screen should get them. For an example, see 08:30 on the Hard video. On Hard, you have less time before the firing squad starts. Once it opens up, use the octalock. (Fun fact: It was this section that made me turn down the sound effects to keep the beat. Try it, you'll be amazed at the difference.) Don't worry about letting go of the octalock and hitting nothing, you won't be penalized.

After dealing enough damage, the patterns change, the energy lines disappear and the flower will fire projectiles at you at the same time. While survival is key, if you finish shooting the petals, the projectiles disappear. Two patterns are easier if you focus on them and ignore the projectiles: one starts with a leaf of five petals before opening another one and then another one, and the other is when they spread out to three fronds and eight petals per frond.

Form three flies around and occasionally stops to shoot at you. Take the time to shoot down each projectile and octalock the rest of the way. Once it hits 80%, it's onto the final form.

The final form is a repeat of the first in spirit. Take care of the projectiles, sneak in some octalocks. It fires a lot more projectiles on Hard, be careful with sneaking in an octalock at an inopportune time.

Ideal Normal score: 600k

Ideal Hard score: 700k

Finale

This is the final stretch. All that's left is to open up the flower. A series of perfect octalocks will net you around 150k here, and the Euphoria bonus should lift you into gold star territory from there. There is a time limit, so don't take too long lining up your octalocks. If you haven't used Euphoria and you're sitting around 700k, just spam it, you've got it anyway.

I won't lie, this is my favorite archive. On Hard, it's a different story as this is the other contender for hardest archive to gold star. This guide will be written for the normal playthrough with additional notes pertaining to hard in bold. Items to pick up are underlined.

Introduction

If you've played through this a few times, it's a bit easier to follow the beat here. You'll want to get your multiplier up as high as possible on the combined cores and afterwards the orange core while shooting down the bullets; with a little practice, getting to x8 here won't be too difficult. Aside from that, nothing to really mention here.

Ideal score: 30k

Gears

Three groups of mini gears will show up in waves of four. Lock on to the first four, then wait for the next wave to complete the octalock. Spam the third wave, and one will drop Health Orb #1. (01/10) On Hard, the first wave of mini gears becomes fliers. Octalock each of them, then wait for all eight to appear before octalocking. When the gears change color to a red center, octalock the gate to open it.

In the next area, you'll get a group of mini gears to spam, but don't forget the large gears on the sides. These take four hits to purify, so one octalock covers two. On Hard, each gear requires a full octalock. To the right of these gears, two fliers come in; each takes a full octalock and will fire on you if you take too long. Alternate between a new flier and a large gear on Hard. The one on the right carries Euphoria Orb #1. (02/10) By this point, the next set of gears will change color. After these two comes another cycle of mini gears to spam, fliers and large gears to octalock. Before the gate, another group of mini gears will come by, but hold onto it for a moment for the octalock, then get the gate as well.

From here, the enemies are mostly fliers, but there are also four large gears to your right. In the first group of fliers, one starts on the left and crosses to the right: this one is carrying Health Orb #2. (03/10) Take out the first two fliers, then get the gears as quickly as possible before the rest start shooting.

Ideal score: 150k

Ideal Hard score: 175k

City

The city is pretty straightforward: it's mostly glitches that need purifying. After the first two sets of four, six show up in a diamond formation; the bottom one holds Health Orb #3. (04/10) The set directly after this starts right to left and gives the first octalock.

The gates are the real trouble. There are eight nodes on the gate that need to be purified. Octalock if you can, spam if you can't. On Hard, there are 16 nodes. Octalocking may prove troublesome, spam if needed. After this first gate, another eight glitches show up, one of which drops Health Orb #4 (05/10) before the next gate appears.

The next part involves 12 glitches, meaning you can octalock and spam, before the next gate shows up with eight more glitches zooming in from behind. This is one of the few places it's recommended to use a euphoria if you're having trouble; just save the euphoria for right before you hit the gate to get the next glitches as well. It's almost expected to use the Euphoria on Hard, but with a healthy dose of luck, you can get through without it, which makes the boss much easier. Don't bank on it. If you can get through without it, take it; it's the equivalent of getting an extra 50k here.

Ideal score: 250k

Ideal Hard score: 225k. Spamming gates leads to less points.

Humans

You can get maybe one or two octalocks on the orange core before they start firing. After three rounds, they morph into humans. The purple one must be traced, the orange one can be octalocked. Importantly, it is possible to run out of time here, so a bit of practice will let you know when to speed up. It comes down to personal preference as to which one to take down first; I start with purple so that when the bullets come, I'm already tracing.

Ideal score: 325k

Ideal Hard score: 275k

Speedway

The first thing will be a train to your right. Each car will open up with the beat, so don't get too far behind on the octalocks. A second train shows up on the left before too long. Eight racecars zoom by next, and those can be octalocked all together. The last holds Health Orb #5. (06/10) I prefer to spam the biplanes, as each one takes four hits and they fire before too long.

The rockets are next, and it's best to wait until they're on screen to octalock all three primary boosters at once. On Hard, each set takes an octalock, so you can focus on one, then the other. Then focus on one at a time to octalock into submission. The first to show up has Health Orb #6. (07/10)

Ideal score: 500k

Ideal Hard score: 425k

Slideshow

Each complete shape makes for a slideshow of invention. Orange needs to be locked on, purple is traced. If a node is shining, it's about to fire. Unlike some like this, it's still possible to 100% here if they do. It's difficult to miss something here.

The second purple grouping holds Euphoria Orb #2. (08/10) Right after this, a group of two four-node objects pop up to be octalocked, but you may not see the second one at first. Health Orb #7 (09/10) comes from another purple object, where all eight nodes are in a vertical line. Health Orb #8 (10/10) comes from an orange obejct with four nodes shaped somewhat like a hand.

From here, it's pretty straightforward.

Ideal score: 600k

Ideal Hard score: 570k

Satellite

Another straightforward area, the video makes for a better description of what's happening. Orange to octalock, purple to trace, but now if they flash and fire at you, you've lost 100%. Before each pattern shows up, the wing will flash. If only one wing flashes, the pattern will be on that one. If both wings flash, it'll be on both. There's three satellite wings to go through, and you can check your progress on the back; a green hexagon fills up and spins you to the next wing when you're done.

Ideal score: 675k

Ideal Hard score: 650k

Force Cores

Most likely, you don't have enough points to finish up here, and if you rush through the boss, you'll end up just shy of 800k. The boss shares a health bar, and you can only purify the colored core. You'll want to octalock the orange core, but only fire the tracer when bullets are fired, do not fire on the purple core. Because of this, you'll need to spend some practice time on this core getting used to the bullet patterns, as you'll be subjecting yourself to it by prolonging the fight until you hit the pre-Euphoria bonus points. Remember, if you used the euphoria during the city earlier, you need to get to 750k, not 700k.

Obviously, once it hits the proper score, go nuts with the tracer as well.

Prepare for a long haul, this is essentially the boss gauntlet of the game. This guide will be written for the normal playthrough with additional notes pertaining to hard in bold. Items to pick up are underlined.

Matrix

Matrix is a bit different from normal purifications. At first, you have black shapes, or in the case of the beginning, black rings. Purifying a lit up orange section will turn the surrounding area into a light blue section. The lit up sections travel around the shape; the goal is to turn the entire shape from black to blue.

This is just as much about timing the octalocks as it is timing the location of the purification. However, once you learn a quick pattern, it's the same on Normal as well as Hard. On the second purified ring, you should have 25% purification, as well as Health Orb #1. (01/10) After this, it starts changing shapes; around 75%, it should be a double pyramid while dropping Health Orb #2. (02/10) Once you hit 100%, it drops Euphoria #1. (03/10)

Ideal score: 45k

Beauty

Same rules still apply for the flower petals. Spam the petals since they give no points, if the outer lines reach the core, it fires, octalock the core. The lines move faster on Hard. When it splits the petals to multiple flowers, you need to take them individually. It's fairly straightforward if you've gotten this far.

Once that's purified, it moves onto the bloom. Just as before, it's more important to make sure you're safe instead of pushing for score. Take the octalocks when you've got a brief breather from the bullets. You won't be able to help but hit it occasionally with the tracer. Again, just like Beauty, if you've gotten this far, it's straightforward.

Ideal score: 175k

Evolution

First up are some octopi. Each one takes two octalocks to purify, if you take too long they'll fire, and the second drops Health Orb #3. (04/10) After another two octopi, some eels shoot up past you, and they're mostly vertical. Like before, two octalocks and some will fire on you. The fourth and final eel drops Health Orb #4. (05/10)

You should be at 31% at the whale. The beat all but disappears here; if you're really good at keeping the beat, you can keep the octalocks going, otherwise just spam. I had on and off luck, so it can go either way. Once you zoom out from the whale, you should be at 85%.

SURPRISE WHALE. Or less surprise, since you're reading a guide. There's three more whales that act as the mantas from Evolution: one octalock and spam the rest. The second surprise whale drops Euphoria Orb #2. (06/10)

Ideal score: 300k

Passion

The humans make a return, but while the dual health bars return, it's a bit misleading. There are actually six humans this time around: three pairs of orange and purple. Like before, it's up to you which one you want to focus on first. However, all six won't be on screen at the same time, and short of using a turbo controller (which won't help gold stars) you won't be able to clear each one as it appears. You'll essentially need to just focus on whichever one you can at the time while shooting down their bullets. The camera will spin around twice as they run around you. The second time, they'll be running away from you. Spam as much as you can, because they're about to get away and lose 100%.

Ideal score: 350k

Firewall

This is the most repetitive part of the stage, as it just adds more guardians each time. It starts with three guardians who circle the corrupted Lumi core. Occasionally they turn red and fire. It's easier said than done, but try to focus on one guardian at a time, as you can knock it out of the game and have fewer things firing at you. More than likely one only gets knocked out once you're close to purifying them all. With only three, it shouldn't be much trouble to you at the moment. After those three are purified, Health Orb #5 (07/10) comes out.

Ideal score: 425k

Now to do it all again with four! It can be hard to keep track of all four at once, much less aim for a specific one. Same rules apply, once they're all purified, you get Health Orb #6. (08/10)

Ideal score: 500k

Five? Don't be preposterous, it's time for six. This one behaves more like Beauty, in that the core is firing at you while the guardians are all passive. Take octalock potshots after you get a breather from the bullets. On Hard, I ended up using a Euphoria here in order to prevent death. Even with this, I was still able to hit 800k by the end of Core, so don't shy away from that option if you're near death. Once these are all purified, Health Orbs #7 and #8 (09/10, 10/10) will pop out. Once you get past this point, so long as you can still mash A, you're golden.

Ideal score: 625k

Core

Similar to Beauty's lines, there's an external circle closing in on the core. Should it reach, it fires. There are lots of tiny mantas surrounding the core. Spam A to clear them out, then octalock the core. This will repeat with no change until the health bar is depleted.

Ideal score: 725k

The corruption worms are back from Matrix, but unlike that time, they don't offer points here, so spam away. Essentially, it's the same song and dance as the mini mantas, just on a larger scale.

Ideal score: 800k

Tree

Not done yet! The credits sequence is next, which is purifying a world tree. By now you've hit your points requirement, so there's no need to go for octalocks. The tree rotates and generates new points to purify after you've started purifying others. Just keep scanning the cursor over the branches of the tree and mash A. You could always use a euphoria near the end if you're having trouble hitting the last few; it's not like the bonus is necessary here.

Hope is a lengthy challenge mode reaching twenty minutes long. Bullets have changed from a purple color to a shining star, which can easily blend in with the background.

With credit to Gamingnerd on Youtube, I found these videos to be the last piece to passing Hope. Rather than show how to complete the entire archive, he takes a minimalist approach and only purifies enemies that can damage him. Turn annotations on and pause every now and then to let him get ahead by a section or so before copying the video.
