BioShock (Xbox 360)

Header

Hello, everybody!

My name is Spiral, and I'd like to welcome you to my walkthrough for BioShock, one of the greatest games on the Xbox 360, if not of all time. This game is a First Person Shooter combined with some RPG elements and is truly amazing. You’ll play as Jack, and you’ll soon dive into the atmospheric world of Rapture, an underwater city built by Andrew Ryan.

This game only contains Single Player content and can be finished in about 10-15 hours while picking up all achievements. There are a few missable achievements, but with the help of this guide, you shouldn’t miss anything. Before you start this game, be sure to download the title update and the free DLC “Ryan Industries: Plasmids and Gene Tonics”, which you can find here. Not only will it help on your quest to achievements, but it also contains some tonics and Plasmids that can turn out to be quite useful in the game itself.

I would consider BioShock easier than most first-person shooters for a couple of reasons. First off, there's this system called the vita-chambers (which we will be unable to use if we want the completion) that allows you, the player, to respawn at a specific point in the game without losing progress. The difference between this and a traditional checkpoint system is that you spawn in the exact same environment in which you died. The enemies are either dead or have lowered health, and you retain the same amount of ammunition as when you died. However, once again, you shouldn't need to use this system if you want all of the achievements. Secondly, due to the nature of this game, there is a heavy emphasis on exploration, and the environments in which you fight are very large. The combat system of the game is made easier by the fact that many of the enemies do not even carry ranged weapons (more on the different types of enemies within the walkthrough). Even though ammo is scarce, your wrench will still be very effective against enemies. Now here are some tips to make the game easier:

  • BEFORE YOU START THE GAME, make sure to have the Ryan Industries: Plasmids and Gene Tonics DLC installed. Also feel free to set the difficulty to easy, because there is an exploit which makes playing on hard completely unnecessary. Once you can enter the Options menu, set the "Disable Vita-Chambers" option to "On".
  • SAVE EVERY LITTLE SISTER. Not only do you have to save every little sister for an achievement, but the difference in ADAM you get from harvesting the little sisters is so marginal that it literally has no impact on the game. You will still be able to buy everything from the Gatherer's Garden even if you save every little sister.
  • Get the 50 hacks achievement out of the way as soon as you can. The reason for this is because the hacking minigame will get increasingly difficult as you progress through the game. By getting it out of the way early, you won't need to play the more difficult minigames, which are heavily luck-based.
  • On another note, make sure to hack everything before you use it. By hacking the vending machines, the items will drop in cost and will allow you to buy more ammo if necessary. Money is pretty common in the game and you shouldn't need to use too much if playing on easy, but hacking every machine will be more cost-effective in the long run.
  • DO NOT INVENT ANYTHING UNTIL YOU UNLOCK THE CLEVER INVENTOR TONIC. This tonic will reduce the cost of inventing items by 1, so you will simply waste materials if you use it before this point in the game.
  • TAKE PHOTOS OF EVERY ENEMY. Once you pick up the camera and until you reach maximum research, you should be taking photos of every enemy. Research bonuses will give you extra tonics and a good chunk of the game's achievements. The key to taking a good photo involves a few criteria, such as "Multiple subjects", "New Subject", and "Action Shot". Take as many high-rated photos as you can to get the research bonuses out of the way.
  • Use the appropriate weapons and ammo for a specific situation. For example, anti-personnel rounds work better against the humanoid splicers you encounter, anti-machine rounds work better against any machines that you encounter, and explosive rounds work better against Big Daddies.
  • SAVE OFTEN! Since we are not using vita-chambers, make sure to save whenever you feel like you've made a decent amount of progress. You really won't be dying much on easy, since you will be probably be loaded with health kits and won't take much damage from enemies anyway, but saving often is a very important habit to get into.

With that out of the way, let's get started! dance

The Lighthouse

Before starting the game, make sure to download the Ryan Industries: Plasmids and Gene Tonics DLC from the Marketplace. Once you are on the main menu screen, select "New Game", and if you want to get the completion as quickly as possible, set the difficulty to "Easy". After watching the opening cutscene, you will be submerged in the water. You should now be able to pause the game with cn_start and be able to enter the Options menu. Set "Disable Vita-Chambers" to "On". This is crucial for achieving Brass Balls. While you may be able to get the achievement by simply not dying, this option is a useful backup for accidental deaths. You will notice that the cn_LS moves the player and that the cn_RS moves the camera. Upon reaching the lighthouse, walk up the steps and enter the ajar door. The screen will light up, showcasing a statue of a man that you will soon be acquainted with and a banner stating "No Gods or Kings. Only Man." Walk around the statue, go down the steps, and enter the Bathysphere. Pull the Bathysphere lever, and you will be treated to a narration by Andrew Ryan and a scenic view of Rapture. You will then enter the next part of the game.

Welcome to Rapture

WARNING: ALL COLLECTIBLES IN THIS LEVEL ARE MISSABLE. YOU CANNOT RETURN TO THIS LOCATION AFTER COMPLETING IT.

You will start the level by watching a dude get absolutely eviscerated by a splicer. Niiiice. Anyway, once you have control of your character again, you will hear a friendly voice named Atlas asking you very kindly to pick up the shortwave radio to your left. Do as he says. Interacting with items is primarily done with the cn_A button. After some narrative from Atlas, you will be able to exit the Bathysphere. Go forward, turn right, and you will see a Vita-Chamber. These allow you to respawn instantaneously in battle should you die. You will respawn at the nearest one if that happens. However, since we are going for "Brass Balls", we will not be allowed to use any Vita-Chambers. Because of that, I highly suggest that you SAVE OFTEN so that you don't lose too much progress if you happen to die in battle.

Continue to move ahead down a very linear pathway, and you will witness a splicer being attacked by security bots. At this point, there will be a barrier in the way, so press cn_Y to jump over it. Continue moving ahead on the pathway, and Atlas will kindly ask you to pick up a "crowbah" or something. There will be a wrench right in front of you, so pick it up. Crouch by clicking cn_LSc and swing your wrench to destroy the rubble by pulling cn_RT. Avoid the burning couch that is thrown your way, and upon reaching the top of the stairs, you will encounter your first form of combat.

Swing your wrench at the attacking splicer, and upon killing him, search his body. I believe that the pickups from dead bodies are random, but it's a very good habit to search everything you find. Some of these splicers hoard some pretty sweet loot. While this will be a very detailed guide, I regret to inform you that I will not tell you exactly every object you can loot. wink That being said, just about any container can be looted and will often contain some very useful supplies. The first splicer I looted contained a first-aid kit and an EVE hypo. You will notice two bars in the upper left. The red bar is your health, and you can press cn_B to heal yourself with first-aid kits should you lose too much health. The blue bar is your EVE, which is essentially the "mana" that you're allowed to use with Plasmids (more on Plasmids very soon). EVE hypos allow you to restore your eve and can be used with cn_X while equipped with a Plasmid. While equipped with a weapon, cn_X reloads your weapon.

Now, go up the stairs, and pick up the "Electro Bolt" at the Gatherer's Garden. You will be treated to a very nice cutscene of your character shooting up for the first time as well as your introduction to the Big Daddy and Little Sister, and once you regain control of yourself, you will have possession of your first Plasmid, Electro Bolt. Electro Bolt does exactly what it says on the box. It shoots electric bolts at your enemies and stuns them for a short period of time. Your plasmid can also trigger shorted-out door switches. These will have electricity hovering around them. If you walk forward, you will notice one of those switches, so shock it up with cn_LT. As you walk down this pathway, a plane will crash into the hallway, so walk through it and continue down the pathway. Upon walking into the next room, there will be two side areas that have some loot you can pick up. You will also be introduced to alcohol and cigarettes. Alcohol restores your health but lowers your EVE, whereas cigarettes lower your health but restore your EVE. If your bars are full, I would recommend avoiding both.

After some time, a splicer will come charging into the room, and Atlas will tell you about "The one-two punch", which involves shocking an enemy with Electro Bolt and then pulverizing his body with your wrench. You can switch between weapons and Plasmids with cn_LB and cn_RB. Open the door to meet another splicer, and then head up the stairs to enter a room experiencing quite the earthquake. Enter the door, and you will be attacked by a splicer on fire. Put him out of his misery, and then enter the only open elevator. There will be some more narration from Atlas. Follow the arrow to a woman speaking to a baby in a carriage. Kill her from behind, and you will quickly figure out that the baby is actually a revolver. You will be able to pick up the revolver, so do so to equip your first firearm. You can switch between weapons by holding cn_RB, and you can switch between Plasmids by holding cn_LB.

Upon entering this next room, you will notice that you can jump off of the balcony off to the left. Do so, and walk forward to the tables. On the table directly in front of you is your first collectible. It is Audio Diary #1/122: New Year's Eve Alone. Do note that by pressing cn_back, you can observe a map of the area, look at your goals, look at your collected audio diaries, and view help for the game. If you are worried about any missing audio diaries, you can check the list in this menu to note which one's you've collected.

Getting back to the game, there will most likely be some splicers in the area, so kill any that you see. Head back up the stairs and enter the women's restroom (Um...). There will be some apparitions in the room referring to the backstory, but what you are mainly here for is another collectible. Head to the back of the room to pick up Audio Diary #2/122: Hole in Bathroom Wall. Enter the men's restroom now, and walk through the hole in the wall. Walk across the lighting system, walk down the stairs, and enjoy watching another lovely cutscene of a man getting brutally murdered by a Big Daddy. After the cutscene has finished, you will be able to break the lock on the gate to your right. Continue following the arrow, killing splicers as you go, until you see two splicers standing in a pool of water on the stairs. At this point, equip Electro Bolt, and shock the water around the poor saps to unlock:

THIS IS OFFICIALLY ON YOUR TAG FOREVER! YAY!

Walk down the stairs, and the door to Neptune's Bounty will conveniently close on you the second before you can enter it. Stay away from the door, since there is now a flame turret behind the gate. Head through the restroom, kill all of the splicers, and shock the water before the splicers can do a cannonball into it. At this point, the gate to the Medical Pavilion behind you will open, so run through the corridor until Andrew Ryan supplies you with a monologue. After he is finished, exit the level through the bulkhead, and enter the Medical Pavilion. Upon doing so, you will complete the level and unlock:

Medical Pavilion

Upon starting the level, turn right, and once you enter the large room, turn left. On your left, you will see a disabled security bot blocking the door. Let's go ahead and hack it!

The hacking minigame is essentially creating a pathway for the fluid to pass through from Point A to Point B. You do this by uncovering "?" tiles and replacing the tubes with ones that will allow the fluid to reach its goal. Later in the game, these hacks can get pretty challenging, and you will start to encounter special blocks. The thin tube speeds up the flow of fluid (bad), the spiral (wink) tube slows down the flow of fluid (good), and there are also explosive and security alarm cubes. If the fluid touches either of these cubes, you will take a lot of damage or cause a bunch of security bots to come flying after you, respectively. You'll want to press cn_Y once you have a working pathway to finish the minigame instantly. Once you've finished hacking this security bot, you will unlock:

Once again, I highly recommend that you reach 50 hacks as quickly as you can before the minigame starts becoming really challenging and luck-based. You'll know you've hit 50 successful hacks when you unlock:

Your hacked security bot will aid you in combat, and every hacked object will assist you in some way. You can also buyout hacks with money or use autohacks (more on these later). Both of these methods will still count towards the 50 hacks. If you turn to your left, you will see a vending machine that you can hack as well. After doing so successfully, you will unlock:

Hacked a Vending Machine

Successfully hack a vending machine.

Hacked a Vending Machine
1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissable

Hacked vending machines give you a discount on what you can buy. Normal vending machines sell first-aid kits, EVE hypos, ammo, etc., and there are also specialty ammo vending machines later in the game that sell specialized ammunition, such as anti-personnel or explosive rounds. After hacking the vending machine, go through the door that the security bot was previously blocking. Directly ahead of you on a desk will be Audio Diary #3/122: Adam's Changes. Proceed through the room to find some new splicers to kill, and then go up the stairs to find the Emergency Access Control switch. Pull it, and some alarms will go off. Go through the corridor, killing the splicer, and once you enter a new room, you will find yourself a fancy new machine gun, which is the primary weapon I use in the game. You should also pull the Electrical Override switch in front of you.

Head back to the main room, testing out your new machine gun as you go, and once you reach the main room, head to the receptionist desk in front of you. You will find Audio Diary #4/122: Released Today on the counter. Now head up the stairs while killing splicers, and follow the arrow until you reach another apparition sequence. Head through the door in front of you after using the Door Control to your right, and directly in front of you on the wall will be Audio Diary #5/122: Higher Standards. There will be quite a lot of splicers in this room, but more importantly, there will be a turret on the right side of the room. Head over to it, use Electro Bolt on it, and you will be able to hack it. After you have done so, the turret will help you in battle, and you will unlock:

Hacked a Turret

Successfully hack a turret.

Hacked a Turret
1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissable

There will also be a turret in the middle of the room, so hack that as well. While facing this turret, turn around, and you will find Audio Diary #6/122: Parasite Expectations on the desk. While facing this same turret, head to the left side of the room to find Audio Diary #7/122: Limits of Imagination pinned to the wall. At the end of this room will be a health station. These typically heal you and the splicers for a fee, but if you hack it, you will be able to use it for a lower price, and it will damage any splicers that try to use it. In the room behind the turret, take a right from the health machine, and you will find Audio Diary #8/122: Love For Science on a suitcase. Now, take a right from the turret, and you will find a room with two vending machines that are slightly submerged in water. Next to the Circus of Values vending machine is Audio Diary #9/122: Vandalism on a chair.

Heading past this room, you will see a plaza of sorts. If you head down the stairs, you will find a mountain of ice that contains Audio Diary #10/122: Freezing Pipes. The arrow will now lead you to Steinman's Surgery, so follow it down the corridor. Steinman will run away from you as soon as you enter and will throw a bomb behind him to drop a sign that blocks your path. Looks like we'll have to find another route or another Plasmid (wink) to get to Steinman's lair. Head back to the plaza, and enter the Eternal Flame, which will be on your right when leaving Steinman's Surgery. Upon entering the Eternal Flame after killing the nitro splicer, look to your left, and you will see Audio Diary #11/122: Surgery's Picasso pinned to an easel.

Enter the main door of the Eternal Flame, and you will notice a panning security camera. If you really want to grind out the 50 hacks now, you can activate the security camera and then just keep hacking the security bots that come. However, as long as you're hacking everything you see, there's really no need for this. Sneak under the security camera, shock it with the Electro Bolt, and hack it. Upon doing so, you will unlock:

Hacked a Security Camera

Successfully hack a security camera.

Hacked a Security Camera
2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissable

Turn around from the camera, and you will see a body ready to be cremated. Press the button next to the furnace, and inside the corpse's ashes, you will find Tonic #1/53: Hacker's Delight. This tonic restores your health and EVE slightly after successfully hacking something. Tonics are essentially stat boosters that help you out in the game, and similarly to Plasmids, you can only have so many equipped at one time. However, you will be able to buy slots at Gatherer's Gardens so that you can have numerous tonics and Plasmids equipped at once (More on this later).

After picking up this tonic, head upstairs and kill the splicer. The door will be locked, so crouch into the vent to the left of the door. On the floor directly in front of you will be a new Plasmid, Incinerate. Incinerate lets you light everything on fire, and similarly to how you can shock the water with Electro Bolt, Incinerate lets you light up oil slicks to brutally murder splicers. Incinerate also helps to melt ice. A bunch of splicers will spawn now, so light up the oil slick next to you and watch them burn. You'll now be able to exit the Eternal Flame and head back to the plaza, so do so. Our next stop will be the dental offices, so head downstairs and melt that block of ice.

Head forward, kill the dentist splicer, and enter the Kure-All to your left. A rocket turret will be firing at you, so hack it. Turn around from the rocket turret, and enter the door on your right. To your left shortly after entering will be a vent, so crouch, knock the grates off, and follow it into a room. At the end of this room, you'll find Tonic #2/53: Wrench Jockey. This tonic increases the damage you deal with your wrench. Go back into the main room, and after exiting the vent and killing the splicer, take a left. You will find Audio Diary #12/122: Enrage Trial on the floor by an exam bed. Hack the security camera in this area, and after doing so, hack the safe right by where the security camera was. Safes tend to be the hardest hacks, especially close to the end of the game. Upon successfully hacking the safe, you will unlock:

Hacked a Safe

Successfully hack a safe.

Hacked a Safe

Now head out of the Kure-All and back into the main area of the dental wing. You will see a shotgun in front of you illuminated by a spotlight. Pick it up. You will now be ambushed by a bunch of splicers in the dark, but the sequence doesn't last very long. When the lights turn back on, head behind where you found the shotgun, and you will find Audio Diary #13/122: Useless Experiments on the ground in front of a door. Head through the doors, and take a left into the "Telekinesis Testing Area". It's a tennis rally machine... Directly in front of you propped up against the Ball Launcher switch will be Audio Diary #14/122: Testing Telekinesis. Look to your left to find a new Plasmid, Telekinesis. You'll only have two plasmid slots, so switch out whichever Plasmid is less important to you right now. I would recommend switching out Electro Bolt, since we still need to melt some ice with Incinerate. Telekinesis is required for the story, so leave it equipped. Telekinesis does exactly what you think it would. It lets you pick up items and throw them across the room, so we might be able to use that to our advantage against Steinman's bombs.

Head back into the foyer of the dental wing, and take a left towards the Painless Dental offices. There will be a locked door and a turret facing the window, so either hack it if you have Electro Bolt equipped or destroy it if you have Incinerate equipped. Head into the room in the back to be covered with mist. There will be a desk in front of you containing Audio Diary #15/122: Plasmids Are The Paint and Tonic #3/53: Speedy Hacker. This tonic reduces the flow of fluid when hacking. Turn around, head back to the foyer, head back to the plaza, and head back to Steinman's Surgery. Equip Telekinesis, hold cn_LT when he throws a bomb at you, and release cn_LT when facing the wreckage. You will now be able to continue with the story.

Directly in front of you will be a corpse in a wheelchair, and directly to the right of that will be Audio Diary #16/122: Symmetry. Head down the steps, and by a corpse, you will find Tonic #4/53: Static Discharge. This tonic makes you discharge electricity onto your enemies whenever you take damage. This is a very useful tonic. Hack or destroy the turret in the hallway, and destroy the security bot that is attacking you. The pulsating red aura around the security bot means that it has been hacked by an enemy. Enter the door on the right of the hallway, hack or destroy the security camera inside, and pick up Audio Diary #17/122: Aphrodite Walking by the bedside of the exam bed in the center of the room. There will also be a safe you can hack behind where the camera was.

Head back out into the hallway, and enter the door at the end of it. Steinman will give a monologue, and once he's finished, you will be able to enter his office. He has more health than the average splicer, but he is still pretty easy to kill. Once you have finished the job, you will unlock:

Defeated Dr. Steinman

Search Steinman's body to receive the Security Access key. Examine the corpse in the center of the room to find Audio Diary #18/122: Not What She Wanted. In the watery basement, you can hack the safe, and your arrow will now point you in a new direction. Follow it, killing splicers as you go, and you'll get your introduction to how Big Daddies and Little Sisters work within the gameplay. In order to deal with a Little Sister, you must first kill the Big Daddy associated with said Little Sister. You will then be given two options. You can either harvest the Little Sister with cn_X or save her with cn_Y. For the sake of getting every achievement, we will save every Little Sister in this playthrough.

You will witness a Big Daddy get murdered by the corridor collapsing on him, and a splicer will go after his Little Sister. Tenenbaum, the keeper of the Little Sisters will shoot the splicer and then point the gun at you. Your character will approach the little sister along some narrative, and you will be given your first choice as to whether to harvest or save the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. If you pause the game, you will see "Little Sisters In This Level" at the bottom, as well as some pictures. If you see a Big Daddy, you still need to save the Little Sister, but if you see a happy Little Sister face, you have already saved the Little Sister. Since we need to deal with every Little Sister for an achievement, make sure that you see only happy faces on the pause menu screen before you exit the level. If you harvest the Little Sister, you receive 160 ADAM, but if you save the Little Sister, you receive 80 ADAM. While this may seem like a large different, it's not. The Little Sisters will bring you presents of 200 ADAM at Gatherer's Gardens as you save more of them, so the difference between both paths is almost nonexistent. ADAM is currency used at Gatherer's Gardens.

Turn to your left, and you will notice your first Gatherer's Garden. On the floor in front of the Gatherer's Garden is Audio Diary #19/122: Gatherer Vulnerability. You can buy whatever you want, since you'll be able to buy everything before the final boss, but I personally purchased Tonic #5/53: Armored Shell, which reduces the damage that you take, and Tonic #6/53: EVE Link, which gives you a small amount of EVE every time you use a first-aid kit. Head through the door back to the plaza, and you should notice a Big Daddy with a Little Sister. Now, Big Daddies have much more health than splicers, but they are still fairly simple to take down. Upon killing the Big Daddy, you can deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y.

Before exiting the area, use Incinerate on the ice covering the door of the Twilight Fields Funeral Home. If you take a left upon entering, you will find a safe guarded by a turret, as well as a splicer. Now, head through the door at the back of the main room. Follow the watery pathway, and you will find Tonic #7/53: Security Expert on a cupboard. This tonic reduces the difficulty when hacking turrets, security bots, and security cameras, so this is a very useful tonic. Before you can leave, a splicer will jump you from one of the compartments, so enjoy the jump scare, and kill him. Now you can exit the level, so follow the arrow until you reach the Security Access again. Kill the nitro splicer and pull the Emergency Access Control switch again. Head to the Bathysphere, and pull the lever to head to Neptune's Bounty.

Neptune's Bounty

Upon starting the level, move forward, and you will see a smuggler tied up in front of a wall very gruesomely. Take the path to his right to find your first Gene Bank. Gene Banks become very useful late in the game, because they allow you to change your setups of equipped Plasmids and tonics. You'll probably notice that there are a lot of locked slots at the moment, but as we progress through the game, we will be able to buy slots and equip more Plasmids and tonics at any one time. Choose which setup you want at the moment (I would recommend switch Telekinesis for Electro Bolt or Incinerate), and proceed through the pathway past the Big Daddy corpse and through the door.

After proceeding through the next few hallways, you will emerge into a very large room, and you'll see a Big Daddy and a Little Sister ahead of you. Kill the Big Daddy with whatever weapon you see fit, and then deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Now, since this is your third saved Little Sister, Tenenbaum wants to reward you with a gift, and next time you reach a Gatherer's Garden, you will notice a surprise present of 200 ADAM. This will happen for every three Little Sisters you save.

Jump down onto the wharf in front of you, and you will notice Tonic #8/53: Medical Expert. in one of the mounds of sludge in front of you. This tonic will make first aid kits give you slightly more health. While collecting this tonic, you will be getting shot by the turrets at either end of the wharf, so try to absorb as many hits as you can. Turn around and hack the turret closest to you. Now, turn around again, kill the splicers in front of you, and crouch under the walkway to your right. Hack the turret at this end when you are close enough, and behind the turret is Audio Diary #20/122: Bathysphere Keys.

Now head up the walkway and through the door, killing splicers as you go, until you reach another Gene Bank. A rocket turret will be shooting at you from across the room, so I would recommend hacking that before doing anything else in this large area. If you head back to the where the Gene Bank was, you'll notice a Gatherer's Garden on your way. In front of the Gatherer's Garden will be a teddy bear that includes 200 ADAM, some pistol rounds, and a new Plasmid, Hypnotize Big Daddy. This Plasmid will make Big Daddies your personal bodyguards for a short time. Interact with the Gatherer's Garden and buy the Plasmid Slot. This will unlock:

I also bought the second slot that becomes available, and I would recommend making the slots your top priority when at Gatherer's Gardens. If you have the free DLC installed, you can also buy your 5 free tonics and free Plasmid for 1 ADAM each now. These DO count towards the 53 tonics achievement, but in case you don't have the DLC or are playing the JP or KR regional variants, I will list all 53 tonics in this guide. At this Gatherer's Garden, I would also recommend buying the Plasmid, Winter Blast, which freezes enemies in place. Also buy Tonic #9/53: Extra Nutrition. This tonic gives you slightly more health when picking up snacks or bandages.

Now, from where the rocket turret was, head down the stairs and into the water. Follow this watery pathway all the way to the end, and you will find a gate with a keypad lock next to it. The code is 5380. Inside, you will find an electrocuted body, some loot, and Audio Diary #21/122: Timmy H. Interrogation. Turn around, and enjoy the jump scare by another splicer. Once you get back up the stairs, head behind the rocket turret now, and head through the door. Knock on the Fontaine Fisheries door in front of you, and Peach Wilkins will give you a monologue.

A spider splicer will now jump from the ceiling, so do your best to kill it (This spider splicer has way more health than normal spider splicers). He will escape after taking enough damage. Head out the door after some more monologue, and follow the arrow into the next hallway until you are attacked by a large number of splicers. Kill all of them, and use the large metal grate sticking out of the ground as a guide for the next audio diary. While staring at the grate from where you first entered the hallway, look right, and head into the small room immediately on your right. Drop down into the hole and follow it all the way to the end. You will find Audio Diary #22/122: Fontaine Must Go buried in the sludge.

Follow the arrow now into another large room. You should see a Big Daddy walking around as soon as you walk in. Kill him in whichever manner you please, and then deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. There will also be a lot of splicers in this room to kill and a rocket turret to hack. There are also three audio diaries to find in this large room before destroying the lock. Basing your position off of where you entered the room, head forward, going around the boxes, and you will find Audio Diary #23/122: Finding The Sea Slug on a table in front of you. Now turn left, and you will enter the central section of this room. Turn left here to see Audio Diary #24/122: Masha Come Home up against the Gatherer vent. Turn around and head into the room on your left now to find a corpse on the ground. Search the body to find Audio Diary #25/122: Picked up Timmy H. Destroy the lock in front of you now, kill the splicer, and take a left to find Audio Diary #26/122: Watch Fontaine sitting on a wooden panel in front of the vending machine.

Hack the security cameras and follow the arrow to a locked gate. Destroy the lock, and hack every mechanical device in this serpentine room. Once you have done so, head toward the far end of the room, and you will see an open gate in front of you. Turn left from this gate, and you will see a small vent on the left wall. Crawl into this vent, and follow it to the end. Hack the security camera, and on the desk at the end of the room is Audio Diary #27/122: Have My Badge. You will also now find the Grenade Launcher, which is one of my least used weapons in the game, since it carries almost no ammo, and nearly every other weapon has explosive ammunition. You can also hack the safe in this room. Now you can head through the aforementioned gate and through the hole in the wall. Head through this hallway and the door, and you will find the Camera on the table. Now, you are going to want to murder this Camera by the end of the game, and let me tell you why:

With the Camera, you will do research, and research will allow you to access new tonics, receive damage bonuses on specific splicers, and obtain a large percentage of this game's achievements. The way you do research is by taking photos of splicers, and better photos will give you larger research bonuses. For example, an action shot, a shot with multiple enemies, and a first-time shot of that specific splicer will grant you more research points. You are going to have to take a LOT of photos to maximize your research, and if you're taking photos at every possible opportunity, you probably still won't have every subject fully researched until Olympus Heights. Taking photos requires film, so buy those from hacked vending machines whenever you are running low so that you can take pictures of every enemy you see. Take a photo of every enemy from here on out. The categories of enemies that you will need to take photos of are:

  • Thuggish Splicer (Melee Splicer)
  • Leadhead Splicer (Gun Splicer)
  • Nitro Splicer (Explosive Splicer)
  • Spider Splicer (Wall-crawling Splicer)
  • Houdini Splicer (Teleporting Splicer)
  • Rosie (Big Daddy with Rivet Gun)
  • Bouncer (Big Daddy with Drill)
  • Little Sister
  • Turret (Any kind)
  • Security Bot
  • Security Camera

Like I said, you will receive tonics for research, but I will list them at the points in the game in which I receive them to give you a more accurate count of your tonics when checking your numbers at a Gene Bank. You may unlock these tonics earlier or later than I do, but as long as you reach max research, you will receive all of them before the final boss.

For all subjects, keep taking photos until the game doesn't let you. By taking photos of every enemy, you should leave yourself with a lot of leeway with hitting max research across all subjects. Head out of the room now, kill the splicer, and before dropping off of the balcony from the now open window, pick up a new Plasmid on said balcony. It is Security Bullseye, which forces security bots and turrets to attack whichever enemy you throw your Plasmid on. Drop down from the balcony now, killing the splicer and hacking the security camera. Turn around from the vending machine, and you will see Audio Diary #28/122: Adam Discovery in a crate. Turn left from the diary, head through the door, and directly in front of you next to the burning pipes is Audio Diary #29/122: Eden Leaking.

Be cautious when entering the next hallway, because there will be a security camera on the right. Hack it, kill the splicers, and on the bench below the security camera, you will find Audio Diary #30/122: Fontaine's Smugglers. While researching the enemies in this corridor, I also unlocked Leadhead Splicer Research Level 2, which unlocks Tonic #10/53: Scrounger. This is one of the most useful tonics in the game, as it lets you do double searches of any lootable object. If you find loot, there's no need to use the tonic, but if you find nothing, this tonic is incredibly helpful. Have it equipped at all times. At the end of this hallway, take the left path to enter the Fighting McDonagh's Tavern.

You will notice a Spider Splicer jump in front of you and out of your line of sight when entering the tavern. Take a left, hack the vending machine, and fill your camera with film. Kill the splicers here and enter the water on the right side of the room (on the Gene Bank's side). Enter the vent, and turn around as soon as you enter it to find Audio Diary #31/122: Meeting Ryan. If you follow this vent to the end, you can break open the other side to create a sequence break, but that's highly unnecessary when we have collectible hunting to do. Head back to the entrance of the tavern, and head through the main door. Upon entering the room, there will be some splicers to kill. I also unlocked Leadhead Splicer Research Level 4 at this point, which unlocks Tonic #11/53: Electric Discharge 2. This works just like the first tonic of its kind, but if both are equipped, their effects stack, and you do a ton of damage when struck. Keep both equipped if possible.

From where you entered, if you look directly in front of you, you will find Audio Diary #32/122: Smuggling Ring on the circular table (Well, circle on a barrel). Head forward from this, and you will find Audio Diary #33/122: Working Late Again on another "table" on the left side of the tavern. Now, jump behind the bar in the center, and use Electro Bolt on the door switch so that you can enter. Head into the next door ahead of you, and you will find Audio Diary #34/122: Rapture Changing on the desk at the far end of the room. Now leave this room and head back to the bar. Head to the left of the bar and into the bathroom to kill the Nitro Splicer, and then head upstairs to kill all of the enemies in this area. The next Spider Splicer will be close by, but first, let's finish up some collectibles.

From where you walked up the stairs, take a left, and you will see another door with an Electro Bolt lock to your left. Use Electro Bolt on it. Once inside, there will be a Leadhead Splicer waiting for you behind the bed, and at this point, I unlocked:

Fully Researched Gun Splicer

2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissableCumulative +

Kill him, and at the foot of the bed where there is something very kinky and interesting going on, you will find Audio Diary #35/122: Arresting Fontaine. Head out of the room now, and the first door on your left will have another keypad lock. The code is 7533. Head to the back of the room, and on the mattress, you will find Audio Diary #36/122: Saw Masha Today. Attack the poster of Jasmine Jolene now with any weapon, and you will find Tonic #12/53: Shorten Alarms. This tonic reduces the duration of security camera alarms and is very useful when trying to research the security cameras. That being said, I would recommend at least activating the security cameras for now so that you can research the security bots. Exit this room now, research the Spider Splicer, and then kill him. Spider Splicer hearts can also be used as first aid kits, so you REALLY have no excuse for dying now. In the room behind you, there is a safe to hack, but for now, you are free to exit the Fighting McDonagh's Tavern.

Before exiting, you will be attacked by a Nitro Splicer and his pet security bot, so destroy them. At this point, I also unlocked Security Bot Research Level 2, which unlocks Tonic #13/53: Security Expert 2. This is a more efficient version of the first tonic and has a similar stacking effect to any other multi-tonic tonics. I personally decided to have a look around the basement and found a Big Daddy walking around. At this point, it's important to note that even if a Big Daddy is walking around with a Little Sister, DO NOT KILL HIM. Wait until he calls for the Little Sister from the Gatherer's Vent. Research both of them before killing the Big Daddy, and then deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Do note that while this is a strange place for the Big Daddy to spawn, they can spawn anywhere within the level you are in, so be alert for any Big Daddies, and never attack them unless they are with a Little Sister. You will most likely find your third and final Little Sister for this level around Fontaine Fisheries after dealing with Jet Postal. Upon exiting the tavern, head into Jet Postal straight ahead from you.

Upon entering Jet Postal, kill the splicers, and from where you entered, turn left to find Audio Diary #37/122: Death Penalty in Rapture on a table. Now head through the main door of Jet Postal, and you will be jumped by the third and final Spider Splicer you have to photograph. Do so, and you will be free to head back to Peach Wilkins. Head back to his room by following the arrow, killing splicers on the way. Strangely, though, to the left of the Gene Bank, you will notice a tonic that wasn't there before on the ledge. Pick it up for Tonic #14/53: Wrench Lurker. This tonic increases wrench damage on attacks done stealthily (enemies that don't know you're there). You will also get jumped by a Spider Splicer with a lot of health on your way.

Upon reaching Peach Wilkins' room, knock on the door again to hear some more monologue. You will now also be able to pick up the Grenade Launcher if you didn't pick it up in the secret area earlier. When the door opens, you will notice a tonic buried in some ice to your left. Melt the ice with Incinerate, and you will find Tonic #15/53: Focused Hacker. This creates two less overload tiles in the hacking minigame and can be very useful if you haven't hit 50 hacks yet. You will now have to give up your weapons into the Pneumo Tube to your right, so do so. Upon entering the room while only armed with your wrench, camera, and Plasmids, you will be ambushed by Peach Wilkins. Just like Steinman, he really doesn't have that much more health than an ordinary splicer, so just keep hitting him with your wrench until he dies. Upon defeating him, you will unlock:

You will now be free to collect your weapons from the Pneumo Tube at the end of this room, so do so. Straight ahead of you will be your first Power to the People Station. These stations allow you to upgrade your weapons with attachments such as increased clip size or rate of fire. There are 2 upgrades per all 6 weapons, and there are 12 stations throughout the game, so you will be able to purchase every upgrade. That being said, feel free to choose whichever upgrade you wish at each of these stations. Use this station for Weapon Upgrade Station #1/12. For using your first Power to the People Station, you will unlock:

Turn left from this station, and use Incinerate on the ice covering the door to your left. Kill the splicers in here, and at the end of the room by the safe, you will find Audio Diary #38/122: Putting The Screws On. You can also hack the safe if you wish. Leave this room, and melt the ice with Incinerate covering the door on the other side of the room. You will encounter another apparition sequence, so after that's done, melt the ice at the end of the room, head through the next hallway, and move on to the Smuggler's Hideout.

Smuggler's Hideout

Upon starting the level, move forward, and progress through the submerged hallway. Once you surface up a ramp, you will notice a turret in front of you, so hack it. To the right of the turret is Audio Diary #39/122: Meeting With Fontaine. You've probably noticed by now that there are a ton of Smuggler's crates around, so search however many you feel like, and make sure to make good use of your Scrounger tonic. Head down another ramp and some more linear hallways until you reach a gate with a lock that you have to shoot off. Follow the arrow into the next room, and use the Control Panel to your right. You will witness a very important story event amongst some dialogue between Andrew Ryan and Atlas, and the door on the other side of the room will open. Head through it while following the arrow, and kill any splicers that come your way. At this point, I reached Spider Splicer Research Level 4 and unlocked Tonic #16/53: Extra Nutrition 3. This tonic is a highly advanced version of the original. While heading down the stairs here, once you see the large submarine in front of you in your line of sight, look to your right to see another locked gate. Shoot the lock off, and head in here to find Audio Diary #40/122: Kraut Scientist on the floor. Now head towards the submarine. The submarine will explode in front of your eyes, and once it explodes, follow the arrow through the next door. Before heading across the bridge to the bulkhead, look to your left, and by the crate, you will find Audio Diary #41/122: Offered A Deal. Now head across the bridge and through the bulkhead to our next location, Arcadia.

Arcadia

You will start the level in a hallway filled with Smuggler's crates, so head to the end of said hallway, and break the lock off of the door ahead of you. You will now end up in the Tea Garden. From the monument at the center, turn left, and you will enter a garden of sorts. Head across the bridge ahead of you, and turn left to see Audio Diary #42/122: Seeing Ghosts by some overturned chairs. There will also be an apparition sequence, so if you turn around, you will notice an apparition run into a door. This also happens to be the door closest to you. Walk into this door, and in front of the bench ahead of you, you will find Audio Diary #43/122: Big Night Out. Turn right directly from this Audio Diary, and by some more overturned chairs, you will find Audio Diary #44/122: Mass Producing Adam.

Now turn right, exit out this door, and follow the arrow into the door on the furthest right inside this garden. Upon entering, you will get your introduction to the Houdini Splicer. These guys are incredibly annoying to deal with, because they can teleport all across the room and can hit you with fireballs when you're not looking. At least they make for easy Research Action Shots. Upon killing him, head up the stairs, turn right, and on a desk by the Gene Bank, you will find Audio Diary #45/122: Arcadia Closed. Now, follow the arrow, killing splicers as you go through the pathways and buildings. At around this point, I unlocked Thuggish Splicer Research Level 2 and unlocked Tonic #17/53: Sportboost. This tonic lets you swing your wrench faster and is almost useless unless you prefer melee combat or are out of ammo.

Keep following the arrow, and you will soon enter the Arcadia Glens (There will be a big sign that says "Arcadia Glens"). If you turn right upon entering, you will notice a Houdini Splicer and a U-Invent Station. You might have noticed by this point that you have been looting items that have seemingly no use to you, such as batteries, kerosene, or empty EVE hypos. These are used for components at these U-Invent machines and allow you to invent special types of ammo. There is an achievement for inventing 100 items, and while you may be eager to start inventing items to make progress towards said achievement, hold the phone for right now. Much later in the game, we will unlock a tonic that will reduce the cost of inventing, so it's a waste of resources to invent anything non-story related until that point. Trust me, I will let you know when you can start inventing items (Psst! It's in Olympus Heights...).

Turn around and follow the arrow now. You will notice a Big Daddy and a Little Sister squaring off against a Leadhead Splicer. Research them, kill the Big Daddy, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. At this point, I also unlocked Rosie Research Level 2 and unlocked Tonic #18/53: Photographer's Eye 2. This tonic is one of the most useful in the game, especially at the point we are now. It greatly increases the amount of research score you get from taking pictures, so absolutely equip this tonic NOW.

This should also be your 6th saved Little Sister, and at the Gatherer's Garden directly in front of you, a Little Sister should give you a Teddy Bear present. This specific Teddy Bear will not only provide you with 200 ADAM but also with Tonic #19/53: Safecracker. This tonic reduces difficulty with hacking safes. Now at the Gatherer's Garden, I bought the Plasmid slot, five tonic slots, and Tonic #20/53: Human Inferno. This tonic reduces the amount of damage you take from fire and increases the damage of Incinerate. Moving on from here, hack the security camera, and follow the arrow into a door with a large Rolling Hills sign above it. There will be a rocket turret, and there should also be a Big Daddy walking around. Follow him until he calls a Little Sister from the Gatherer's Vent. After he does so, kill him, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Now head back down to the end of the room, and you will find Audio Diary #46/122: Shouldn't Have Come on a rock beneath another large Rolling Hills sign.

Now take a left, following the arrow, and attempt to enter the Rapture Metro. You will suddenly notice the trees being poisoned, which are Rapture's sources of oxygen. Looks like we'll need to deal with this first before moving on to Andrew Ryan's lair. There will also now be a Houdini Splicer in this area. At this point, I reached Houdini Splicer Research Level 2 and unlocked Tonic #21/53: Natural Camouflage. This tonic makes you invisible while standing still and is also somewhat useless, since you're most likely always moving. If you follow the arrow, you will encounter a security camera. I activated this security camera and subsequently completed my research of the security bot for doing so. No achievement, unfortunately.

Upon entering the next door, you will have a conversation with Julie Langford, the keeper of the trees in Arcadia. She will ask you to obtain a rose specimen. Now head back from whence you came, and there will be a large group of Thuggish Splicers in the area with the poisoned trees. At this point, I reached Thuggish Splicer Research Level 4 and unlocked Tonic #22/53: Sportboost 2. This tonic makes it look like you've been injecting more than just Plasmids when you use your wrench but is once again not very useful.

When heading back, you will notice a voodoo cave directly in front of you. Upon entering said cave, you will notice Audio Diary #47/122: The Saturnine on the ground. There will also be another Houdini Splicer here. There is also another voodoo cave before entering Arcadia Glens again, but there is only a Houdini Splicer within and no Audio Diaries. Your arrow will now lead you to the Waterfall Grotto. Upon entering, you will notice another large group of Thuggish Splicers, and this is also where I completed my research of them and unlocked:

Fully Researched Thug Splicer

Fully research the Thuggish Splicer.

Fully Researched Thug Splicer
2 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissableCumulative +

Directly in front of you when entering the Waterfall Grotto, you will find Tonic #23/53: Security Evasion. This tonic makes security cameras and turrets take longer to see you and is pretty useful, especially if you already have your security bot research completed. Directly ahead of this on a bench is Audio Diary #48/122: The Market Is Patient. Now go down the pathway littered with traps, hacking the machines as you go. When you reach the end of the pathway, before touching fertile ground, turn to your left, and you will notice another door with an Electro Bolt switch. Use Electro Bolt on said switch, and if you head to the end of the room, you will find Audio Diary #49/122: Heroes and Criminals on the floor.

Now you can head out of the room, onto fertile ground, and into the water. Directly ahead of you on a cinderblock next to a corpse, you will find Audio Diary #50/122: Offer A Better Product. There will also be a turret to your left, so hack it. Turn around from the turret, and across the water on a box next to the roses, you will find Audio Diary #51/122: Early Tests Promising. Now feel free to pick up a rose, and you will now be tasked to head back to Langford. Do so while killing splicers all along your way. Upon reaching her lab again, place the rose in the Pneumo Tube to your left. You are now free to enter her laboratory.

Directly in front of you upon entering, you will likely notice a tonic sitting on the table. It is Tonic #24/53: Hacking Expert. This tonic creates one fewer alarm tile and one fewer overload tile when playing the hacking minigame. If you look to the right of the desk, you will notice Audio Diary #52/122: What Won't They Steal? in front of the cabinets. Enter the door to the right from where you entered, and if you look slightly to your left, you will notice Audio Diary #53/122: Teaching An Old Hound on a table. Follow the arrow into Langford's office, and you will witness her being put to death by gas as well. Before she dies, she will write "9457" on the wall in front of you. Now enter her office, and search her body for Audio Diary #54/122: The Lazarus Vector.

You will also notice a Chemical Thrower on the table in the center, which is also one of my least used weapons. That being said, it will have a very important use much later in the game. Now head to the Botanical Illustration to the right of the Chemical Thrower, and interact with it to reveal a safe. Use 9457 on the safe to find a Market Key and Audio Diary #55/122: Lazarus Vector Formula. Upon listening to this Audio Diary, you will be tasked with finding ingredients for the Lazarus Vector, and upon finding all ingredients, you will be tasked with inventing it to save the trees of Arcadia. After the Audio Diary finishes, head out of the office and laboratory, and make your way towards the Farmer's Market. If you check your goals at this point, you will find a tracker of how many of each of the ingredients you have found. The goals state that you need seven of each, but you'll only need six if you hack the U-Invent machine.

Upon leaving Langford's office, you will notice some splicers that need some killing, so do so. Langford's security system will also be re-activated, so be cautious, and hack any machines that you come into contact with. At this point, I also finished my research of the turret, which also has no achievement attached to it. After leaving Langford's laboratory, head back to Arcadia Glens, and the arrow will now lead you into a new door. If you head straight ahead from this door, you will find Audio Diary #56/122: Arcadia And Oxygen next to a crate and some bags of fertilizer. There is also a splicer and his hacked security bot to kill here. Follow the arrow through this room and up some stairs. Immediately after heading up said stairs, look to your left to find Weapon Upgrade Station #2/12. If you upgraded the same weapon you did last time, you will unlock:

Head through this gazebo of sorts, and you will have to fight another Houdini Splicer at the bottom of the steps. Just past the splicer is a ticket booth, and the furthest left booth has a safe you can hack. If you head through the ticket booth, you will find Audio Diary #57/122: Maternal Instinct at the center of this platform before heading down the steps. Now follow the arrow towards the bulkhead, and enter the Bulkhead to the Farmer's Market.

Farmer's Market

Upon starting the level, walk straight ahead to find a corpse. If you search his body, you will find your first bee enzyme. Right next to him is Audio Diary #58/122: Bee Enzyme. Head into the door and down the hallway, and you will enter the titular Farmer's Market. Now, this area is very maze-like, and a lot of the environments look the same, so I will walk you through it as best I can. Start off by killing the splicers and hacking the rocket turret to your right. Now head down the stairs that this turret was facing, and you will find Tonic #25/53: EVE Link 2 in front of the vending machine. This tonic is, once again, a more efficient version of the first.

Head down the hallway to the left of the vending machine now, and you will enter a plaza with a tree in the center of it. You will now be ambushed by a few splicers, so kill them. If you head behind the counter that is to your left when you enter this plaza, you will notice a door marked with "Employees Only". You will see Audio Diary #59/122: First Encounter straight ahead from you upon entering the door. If you look to your left, you will see a dead Big Daddy and a room submerged with water. Head into the water, and on a desk to your left, you will find Audio Diary #60/122: Hatred. Upon leaving this room, I was attacked by a Houdini Splicer, finished my research, and unlocked:

Fully Researched Houdini Splicer

If you enter the room to the right of the Employees Only door, you will find a splicer to kill and your first instance of distilled water. Head out of this room now, and to your left, you should notice another keypad lock. Use "0512" if you wish to get some more supplies. Heading back out into the main plaza now, head up the stairs, and follow the arrow into a door. You should notice another Big Daddy and a Little Sister. You know the drill by now. Research both of them, kill the Big Daddy, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Behind a counter to the right of where the Big Daddy was, there will also be a security camera to hack. At this point, I also finished my research for the security camera, and I promise that this is the final research tree that does not lead to an achievement. Also feel free to hack the safe to the left of the security camera.

Now head back through the door you came, and to your left upon leaving, you will see another door. Head through this door, and you will see a crawlspace straight ahead. Head into the crawlspace, and you will find Audio Diary #61/122: Desperate Times directly in front of you. You can jump on the crates next to this Audio Diary to enter another crawlspace that leads to a room filled with hanging corpses. The crawlspace on the ground in this room leads you back to where the security camera was. Now, from where the Big Daddy was, ignore the arrow, and turn left. There will be a door straight ahead of you and a door to the right of you. The door to the right leads to a turret and a safe. If you go through the door ahead of you, there will be a security camera to your left and Audio Diary #62/122: Pulling Together on a counter to your right.

Now you can follow the arrow. Directly in front of the next door you need to enter is Audio Diary #63/122: Water in Wine on top of some broken wine bottles. Head through the door, and the arrow will lead you into the Silverwing Apiary. There will bees in this area, so be careful not to get stung too much. As soon as you enter, there will be Audio Diary #64/122: Adam Explained on the counter. To your left will be another Gatherer's Garden, so buy the Plasmid slot. This should be your final slot for the Plasmid track, so you will unlock:

Maxed One Track

1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissableShop

I also bought a tonic slot. Head into the apiary now, and before entering the room with all of the beehives, use the Smoker Control in front of you. This will prevent you from getting stung repeatedly. Now search as many beehives as you can while avoiding the splicers' attacks before the timer on the Smoker Control is up. Once you collect 7 bee enzyme samples, you are free to leave the apiary. You should also have already collected 7 chlorophyll samples from looting dead bodies and containers.

Upon leaving the apiary, the arrow will now lead you into the Worley Winery. As soon as you enter, take either path, but be careful about the security camera behind the bar. Upon hacking the security camera and turret beside it, head to the right side of the bar to find Audio Diary #65/122: Functional Children on one of the tables. The arrow will now lead you to the basement of the winery, and this is where directions will get confusing. So, start by heading down each staircase until you reach the very bottom floor. There will be another Big Daddy here, so feel free to research it for the Rosie track. Now, upon reaching the bottom, you will notice two submerged pathways. Enter the one on the right (more like straight ahead of you), and you will find Weapon Upgrade Station #3/12. Downstairs here, you will also find glowing bottles of distilled water to help you complete your goal.

From where you upgraded your weapon, head to the furthest back left you can imagine in this downstairs area. You'll know you're in the right place if you see a Gene Bank on your way. Anyway, there will be a dock leading into a shack, so head into the shack. By the bed, you will find Tonic #26/53: Photographer's Eye. This tonic is a less efficient version of the one we already have, but equip it anyway in any slot except for Photographer's Eye 2. This is a very important tonic for the research trees. You will now be tasked with building the Lazarus Vector, so let's head back to Langford's laboratory in Arcadia! Backtrack all the way back to the Bulkhead to Arcadia.

Arcadia (Revisited)

You will now be back in Arcadia ready to create the Lazarus Vector and restore the trees of Arcadia. Upon re-entering Arcadia, follow the arrow all the way back to Langford's laboratory and then into her office. You will most likely run into some splicers along the way. I also encountered a Rosie along my way, finished my research, and unlocked:

Do note that once you start Fort Frolic, the Big Daddies you encounter will be Bouncers. However, the Big Daddies will revert back to Rosies by the end of the game. Anyway, once you get back to Langford's office, you will notice a splicer over her corpse to kill. There will also be a U-Invent machine on the left side of the room, so hack it. This will decrease the cost of the Lazarus Vector, allowing you to use your hard-earned ingredients for other items later in the game. Invent the Lazarus Vector to unlock:

You will now be asked to insert the Lazarus Vector into the Central Misting Control at the front of the room. Do so, and you will be ambushed by a large amount of splicers within Langford's laboratory. You'll have to seal the door to the laboratory, so head to the front of the lab as quickly as you can, and use the Lab Access Seal. You probably noticed the wall being laser-cut by splicers on the way over, so you'll have to deal with all of them in any way you please. If you have previously hacked the machinery in the laboratory, fending them off will be easier. The front door will be laser-cut as well. Kill all of the splicers, and once the Lazarus Vector cycle is finished restoring the trees of Arcadia, go back to it, use the Misting Deployment switch, and you will unlock:

You will now be tasked with heading to Andrew Ryan's central control, so follow the arrow to the metro, killing splicers as you go. Upon entering the door with "Rapture Metro" above it, Andrew Ryan will start a monologue directed towards you, and you will head through another door. Directly after entering this door, on the right side of the room is Audio Diary #66/122: The Great Chain on a bench. You are now free to enter the Bathysphere, pull the lever, and head on to Fort Frolic.

Fort Frolic

Fort Frolic is my favorite location in the game, if not only for the eccentric ramblings of the insane artist, Sander Cohen. More on him shortly. As soon as you begin the level, head forward slightly, and look left. You will find some vending machines. Play them until you win the "$$$" $250 Jackpot, and you will unlock:

Feel free to reload your save if you lost too much money. Follow the arrow upon starting to reach another Rapture Metro and another Bathysphere. That was a fast level. See you in Hephaestus... Oh wait, we've suddenly lost communication with Atlas, and the Bathysphere has departed without us entering it. It is now that you will be introduced to the mind of Sander Cohen. After his first monologue, head out the door, and you will probably notice a bunch of traps in your way now. Thankfully, the arrow points us to the left in front of a bunch of locked doors. You will also be ambushed by a bunch of Spider Splicers, and this is also where I finished my research for them. You will unlock:

There will be some more monologue from Sander Cohen, and you will finally be able to head into his Atrium. Somewhat like the Farmer's Market, this place is fairly difficult to navigate and has two very large plazas with some well-hidden stores. The layout's almost like being in a real shopping mall. Upon entering, turn left immediately to go under an arch. Follow this hallway around, past the staircase, and towards a security camera. Hack it, and head into the room that the security camera was facing. You will find Audio Diary #67/122: Come To The Record Store on a very small table next to a chair and a burning poster. You will also probably notice some splicers fighting, so break up the fight by murdering them all.

From this room, take a right, and you will notice Sophia's Salon to your right down the hallway. Head to the back of this store, and you will find Audio Diary #68/122: The Wild Bunny at the end of a very creepy mannequin room. Head out of Sophia's Salon, and directly in front of you will be the Cocktail Lounge. There is a security camera inside, so hack it. To the left of the lounge upon entering is Audio Diary #69/122: Artists' Feud on the bar. You'll also probably hear "Beyond the Sea" in the background at this point, so feel free to just hang out for a few minutes. Continue heading down the hallway to find Le Marquis D'Epoque Tobacco on the right side of the hallway. Hack the turret, and head downstairs to find Weapon Upgrade Station #4/12 directly in front of you. If you upgrade the same weapon you upgraded last time, you will unlock:

Turn around from the upgrade station, and you will find Audio Diary #70/122: Fancy Cigarettes next to a corpse. You've now collected every collectible in this downstairs mall section, so follow the arrow back to the center of the Atrium now. Head up the stairs now, and you will notice a toppled trashcan. Within its trash is Audio Diary #71/122: Stood Up Again. Follow the arrow into the Fleet Hall Theater now, and enter the bar area to find another security camera to hack. While facing where the security camera was, look to your right to find a flight of stairs to climb. Once at the top, you will enter a backstage office. Look to your left to find a guitar, and directly next to the guitar in a box is Audio Diary #72/122: Musical Insult. Upon receiving the previous diary, head back down the stairs into the bar area, and across the room is an elevator. Call it using the button, and enter it to enter it to head to the upper part of the theater.

You will now be allowed to enter the theater, and you will be treated to a piano performance. Sander Cohen will explode the piano after disliking the performance (Terrence Fletcher doesn't look so bad now...), and you will be tasked with taking a photo of his corpse. While facing the corpse, if you look to your left, you will see a tonic up on a balcony. Head back to where you entered, and take a right down the hallway. The door at the end is locked, so enter the next door over. You will now be tasked with platforming over to the balcony with the tonic, and since this isn't Mirror's Edge, I would recommend making a save at this point. Jump over to collect Tonic #27/53: Alarm Expert. This tonic gives you two fewer alarm tiles when hacking. You will also be attacked by some Houdini Splicers now before leaving the theater, so kill them, and head out the side hallway on the ground floor to exit the theater. You may also notice yourself being attacked by two turrets at this point, so hack them, and head into the room behind them to find a safe to hack.

Sander Cohen will now ask you to place your photo of Fitzpatrick's corpse on his masterpiece, so do so. You will also be presented with a gift in the form of a new weapon, the Crossbow. It is also one of my least used weapons, but it works surprisingly well against Big Daddies. You will now be tasked with killing three other men and taking photos of their corpses. Head back up the stairs, and take a left to head into Cohen's Collection Fine Art. Head straight ahead upon entering to find a table with some figures sitting around it. Take a right from this table to find Audio Diary #73/122: The Doubters on a desk with some paintbrushes and many bottles of Arcadia Merlot. Head out of this room, and take a left upon exiting to head towards Poseidon Plaza. You'll pass a Gatherer's Garden on your way, but chances are that you haven't saved a Little Sister since the last Gatherer's Garden in the Farmer's Market. We'll come back to this later.

Upon entering the door to Poseidon Plaza, you'll notice that the hallway is completely covered in ice. Look to the left wall while walking, and you'll notice Audio Diary #74/122: The Iceman Cometh within a glacier. You don't actually have to melt the glacier to pick the Audio Diary up. Upon entering the next door, you will be frozen by Finnegan. Upon breaking free from the ice, move forward, and you'll notice Finnegan pretending to be frozen. Kill him, photograph his corpse, and loot his body. Upon looting, you will collect Tonic #28/53: Frozen Field. This tonic allows you to withstand the cold more easily and potentially freeze splicers when hitting them with your wrench.

You will now be tasked with heading back to Cohen's masterpiece to post your photo of Finnegan's corpse. On your way back, however, you should stumble upon a Big Daddy and a Little Sister. Since this is your first encounter with a Bouncer with your shiny new camera, you will unlock:

Prolific Photographer
1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissableCumulative +

After researching both of them, kill the Big Daddy, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Since this is your ninth saved Little Sister, you will receive a Teddy Bear gift the next time you go to a Gatherer's Garden. Also kill any splicers around you, and head back to the masterpiece to post your photo and collect a gift of some ammo and health kits. At this point, I went back to the Gatherer's Garden. The teddy bear will have 200 ADAM, some health kits, and a new Plasmid, Hypnotize Big Daddy 2. Unlike tonics, Plasmids do not stack, and Hypnotize Big Daddy is simply upgraded to Hypnotize Big Daddy 2. At the Gatherer's Garden, I bought three tonic slots, which exhausted the Gatherer's Garden of all available tonic slots as of now.

While I was walking back to Poseidon Plaza, I noticed another Big Daddy walking around. At this point, I reached Bouncer Research Level 2 and unlocked Tonic #29/53: Wrench Jockey 2. This is, once again, a more efficient version of the first tonic. I followed him to call another Little Sister from the vent, researched the two of them, killed the Big Daddy, and dealt with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Do note that you may find the next Big Daddy within Poseidon Plaza or in the Atrium like I did. There is also one more Big Daddy lurking in this level that may be in either location. Don't bother finishing the level until you've saved all three Little Sisters.

Now you can finally head back to Poseidon Plaza to find your next two victims. Upon reaching the point where Finnegan was, melt the ice with Incinerate on the other side of the room, and finally enter the second mall-like section of this level. I don't know if I got lucky with the spawns or what, but upon heading upstairs, I found the next Big Daddy and Little Sister. As always, kill the Big Daddy, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Now, once again, this is a very large location that is fairly difficult to articulately explain. It's even harder when you're constantly being attacked by splicers. There are technically only two stores you have to visit, but if you want all of the collectible achievements, you'll have to enter nearly every one.

Starting off from where you enter the mall, head up the stairs, and to your right, you should notice Sir-Prize. Enter, and you'll have to dodge some traps and eventually make your way to the ground floor by going down the stairs at the back of the room. Kill all of the splicers down here and from where you went down the stairs, turn to your right to find a counter. To the right of the counter is Audio Diary #75/122: Fontaine's Army within a box. If you go behind the counter, you will find a safe to hack as well. You're also now free to exit out of the ground floor entrance of Sir-Prize. Now go back up the stairs, but this time, hang a left, and follow the hallway all the way to the other side of the room until you reach the Pharaoh's Fortune Casino.

Upon entering the casino, make sure you are looking up at the security camera so that you can hack or destroy it (somewhat in a hard place to hack). After doing so, head up the stairs to the upper floor, and on a red pool table on the right (or left depending on which flight you took) side of the room, you will find Audio Diary #76/122: Bump Culpepper. Head out of the casino now and back onto the ground floor. From where you entered Poseidon Plaza, if you head straight all the way to the other end of the room, you will find Sinclair Spirits. Enter it, and directly above you and slightly to your right upon entering is another security camera. Hack it. Head behind the counter now inside the main room, and you should notice a switch that looks like a doorbell on the right side of the counter. Doing so will open up a door on the other side of the room. Head into this room, into the cellar, and take a left to find Weapon Upgrade Station #5/12 and a safe to hack. There will also be a nice jump scare behind you with a mannequin that wasn't there before turning into a splicer.

Head out of Sinclair Spirits now, and straight ahead of you past a fountain statue will be a flight of stairs leading down. Head across the water to the back right corner of this room to find Tonic #30/53: Extra Nutrition 2 on a crate. You should already have Extra Nutrition 1 and 3 at this point, so if you really feel like it, equip all three of them at once! Upon turning around, you will get the same jump scare that you had in Sinclair Spirits. C'mon, Irrational! Be original! wink Now head back up the stairs, and then take a right into the hallway leading to EVE's Garden. Before reaching EVE's Garden, enter Robertson's Tobaccoria to your left. You will find Audio Diary #77/122: Guns Blazing on the table in front of you. Now head out of here and into EVE's Garden.

As soon as you enter, you will encounter an apparition sequence involving the two um... poles in front of you. Head backstage straight ahead of you to experience some more apparition sequences. Once the door unlocks, you will find Audio Diary #78/122: Pregnancy under the bed directly in front of you. Now head back out into the main room of EVE's Garden, and Rodriguez will suddenly get up from the bar. Chase after him until you kill him, and then take a picture of his corpse. Now head all the way back to where you were in EVE's Garden, and if you go back to where Rodriguez was sitting at the bar, you will find Audio Diary #79/122: It's All Grift. Head through the door adjacent to the bar, go up the stairs, and exit the next two doors to be back in the central mall area of Poseidon Plaza. There will be two turrets waiting for you, so hack them.

Now head across to the casino, take a right, and follow the path to the next store over, Rapture Records. Take a left as soon as you enter, and you will find Audio Diary #80/122: Ryan's Stableboy behind the counter. If you head downstairs now, a bomb will go off, the stairs will be destroyed, and Cobb will be waiting for you by the balcony where you just were. Head to the back left of the room, and Cobb will destroy the vent grate with a grenade. Head through the vent back up to the entrance of Rapture Records. Kill the splicers that ambush you, and head back out into Poseidon Plaza as soon as you can. Cobb will be waiting for you, so kill him, and take a photo of his corpse. Now we can head back to Cohen's masterpiece to post our new photos.

Upon placing your photo of Rodriguez, you will be ambushed by a bunch of splicers, so fend them off until Cohen finally relaxes again. Upon defeating them, you will also get another gift of ammunition. Now post Cobb's photo to unlock:

You will also now witness Sander Cohen in all his glory, and whatever you do: DO NOT ATTACK HIM. He needs to be alive for a future achievement and Power to the People station. Cohen will also provide you with a gift in the form of Tonic #31/53: Medical Expert 2. This tonic is a more efficient version of the first, and having both of them equipped at once is very effective. Your communication with Atlas will be restored, but don't leave just yet. Head back up the stairs and into the theater. Go up the stairs to the right into the backstage office as before, but if you turn to your right upon entering, you will notice an unlocked door that was previously locked. Jump over the guardrail, and directly in front of you on the desk is Audio Diary #81/122: Requiem For Andrew Ryan. You'll also definitely notice Tonic #32/53: Electric Flesh on the shelves in front of you. This tonic lets you take less damage from electricity and increases the efficiency of electric attacks. You are also now free to follow the arrow back to the Bathysphere, pull the lever, and move on to Hephaestus.

Hephaestus

Head straight ahead upon starting the level into the door. You will reach a forked path, so take the right path while killing any splicers in your way. Follow the arrow into another right path, head through the door, head down the ramp, and head through another door. Head up either flight of the stairs, and hack the turret in the center of the room. Crouch under the fallen pillar, and search the crate next to the vending machine to find Audio Diary #82/122: Ryan Takes F Futuristics. Follow the arrow into the next room, and take an immediate left to find Audio Diary #83/122: Scoping The Gate in between the vending machine and the Vita Chamber. Now follow the arrow through this room and into the next, which is covered in hanging corpses.

From where you enter, search the first hanging corpse on the right side of the room. You will find Audio Diary #84/122: Stopping Ryan. Search the last hanging corpse on the right side of the room to find Audio Diary #85/122: Going To Heat Loss. While also on the right side of this room, if you head up the stairs to your right and head through the door, you will notice a flooded room with a desk in front of you. On the desk, you will find Audio Diary #86/122: A Man Or A Parasite and Tonic #33/53: Frozen Field 2. This tonic is, once again, a more efficient version of the first. Upon exiting this room, you will witness a bunch of splicers burst into the room, so kill them. Where they entered is also where our arrow now leads us.

Head through the corridor to reach the main area of Hephaestus. The first thing you'll probably witness is a Big Daddy fighting with some splicers. Kill everybody around you, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Since this is your twelfth saved Little Sister, you will receive a Teddy Bear at your next Gatherer's Garden. If you head straight ahead (Don't go down the stairs) from where this fight occurred, you will find Audio Diary #87/122: Fontaine's Legacy in the back right corner next to a chair. Now you can head down the stairs.

Upon heading down the stairs, follow the arrow to the Workshop entrance. To your right, there will be a security camera patrolling the entrance, so hack it. On a desk underneath where the security camera was, there will be Audio Diary #88/122: Running Short On R-34s. Now head down the stairs to Heat Loss Monitoring, but instead of going into Heat Loss, head up the ramp, and you'll notice a Little Sister giving you your Teddy Bear gift at the Gatherer's Garden. It will contain 200 ADAM, some EVE hypos, and some ammo. To the left of the Gatherer's Garden is Audio Diary #89/122: Assassin next to an overturned file cabinet. Turn around from the Gatherer's Garden to find Weapon Upgrade Station #6/12. If you upgraded the same weapon as last time, you will unlock:

At the Gatherer's Garden, I bought the two tonic slots, as well as Tonic #34/53: Wrench Lurker 2. This tonic is a more effective version of the first but is still somewhat useless, since stealth is almost nonexistent in this game. I also bought Tonic #35/53: Hacking Expert 2. This tonic gives you two fewer alarm tiles AND two fewer overload tiles in the hacking minigame. I also bought Electro Bolt 2 and Electro Bolt 3, which upgrades Electro Bolt to its highest potential. You are now free to follow the arrow into the flooded corridor and into Heat Loss.

Upon entering, you'll probably notice that the lights go out intermittently. The game will still be playing at these times, so either stand still or actually move forward to the exit if you feel like you can navigate yourself. Oh, and the splicers at the end of this corridor are pretending to be dead. After killing them, head through the door, and follow the arrow to the back of the room. At the back right, you will find Audio Diary #90/122: Kyburz Door Code on the floor next to some supplies. At this point, you should notice another room you can walk into, so do so, and kill another splicer revenant. There should also be a Big Daddy and Little Sister at this point, so kill him, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. At this point, an apparition sequence will be occurring above the electrocuted water. Before dealing with that, however, kill the splicers, and follow the arrow to the right side of the room and down the steps. You will notice one of the few story-related Audio Diaries on the desk to your left in the form of Audio Diary #91/122: Getting A Break. On the same desk is Tonic #36/53: Security Evasion 2. This tonic is a more effective version of the first and is VERY helpful at this point in the game.

Now head over to the other side of the room, and hack the Electric Current to disable it. You are now free to enter the water, so head to the back left of the room to find a desk with Audio Diary #92/122: Genetic Arms Race on it. Now you can head back out of Heat Loss, so follow the arrow back into the main area of Hephaestus and into the Workshop. If you head to your right upon entering, you will notice a turret, so hack it. I also had a Big Daddy and Little Sister in this room, so kill the Big Daddy, and Deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. At this point, I also completed my research of the Bouncer and unlocked:

There is also a safe to hack close to where the Gatherer's Vent is. Follow the arrow downstairs, and if you look to your left upon reaching the ground floor, you will notice two turrets guarding the entrance to the Workshop. Hack both of them, and when facing where they both stand before going up the steps to the Workshop door, look to your left. You will see a very well-hidden crawlspace door, so open it, and head to the end of the crawlspace to find Audio Diary #93/122: Market Maintenance Code next to a corpse. Upon exiting the crawlspace, head into the office you see to your right across from the stairs. To your right on a desk will be Audio Diary #94/122: Device Almost Finished.

Now follow the arrow out of the office, through the next room, and into the next. Search the corpse directly in front of you to find Audio Diary #95/122: The Dream. Continue following the arrow into another crawlspace, and you will find another story-related Audio Diary on the desk in front of you: Audio Diary #96/122: Assembling The Bomb. There is also Tonic #37/53: Damage Research right next to the previous Audio Diary on the same desk. This tonic increases the effectiveness of your Damage Research bonuses, and since you should be almost done with your research, equip this NOW. It will make combat much easier. You will now be tasked with completing Kyburz's EMP bomb in a similar method to the Lazarus Vector. This time, you will need Ionic Gel (found out in the open), Nitroglycerin (found in Kyburz's office), and R-34 Wire Clusters (found on Big Daddy corpses).

Head over to Kyburz's office (the Workshop that the two turrets were guarding), and enter "0126" on the Keypad Lock to enter the Workshop. This room will be absolutely covered in traps, so do your best to work your way through it. Upon reaching Kyburz's main office area, pick up Audio Diary #97/122: Great Chain Moves Slowly on the desk in front of you. To the left of the desk is Weapon Upgrade Station #7/12. If you turn around from the Power to the People station, you should notice an Intriguing Switch on the desk. Press it to open up the display case that holds the Nitroglycerin. This will also spawn a turret on the other side of the room, and I would recommend destroying it due to all of the traps in this room. Head back to the bomb, and place the Nitroglycerin in the bomb.

From here, your goal will be to collect the rest of the ingredients for the bomb, so walk around Hephaestus searching for the ingredients in the places that I specified above. I found some Ionic Gel at the top of the Workshop over by where the Big Daddy was, and I found some more in between the Workshop and Heat Loss. You can find the R-34 Wire Clusters on the Big Daddies you've already killed or on some more that are walking around. Before going back to the bomb with your ingredients, while facing the entrance to Heat Loss, take a left. Don't go up the stairs, but instead, follow the pathway to a large flight of stairs leading down. On the table at the back right of this room is Audio Diary #98/122: Impossible Anywhere Else. Upon collecting all ingredients, head back to the bomb to complete its construction.

You will now be instructed to place the bomb in the core of Hephaestus, so follow the arrow out of the Workshop and towards Geothermal Control. Enter either side of the next room, but there will be turrets on both sides, so hack them both. You will now be tasked with redirecting the magma flow, so turn the Magma Release Valve in front of you by holding cn_A. Splicers will ambush you on both sides while this happens, but you shouldn't need to let go of cn_A if you've hacked the turrets. If you need to restore your health, you should also have a large amount of first aid kits if you've been following along. Upon redirecting the magma flow, the splicers should die, and the elevator behind you should open. Enter it to head towards the Hephaestus Core. Head through the next few hallways until you notice a corpse with Tonic #38/53: Shorten Alarms 2 next to it. This tonic is a more effective version of the first and is greatly useful when both are equipped simultaneously.

Once you reach the Core, use the Core Lift Control, and place the EMP Bomb on the Core to destroy Hephaestus. The arrow will now lead you to Andrew Ryan's Office, so follow it all the way, killing any splicers that come into contact with you. Use the Circuit Breaker to destroy the lock to Andrew Ryan's Office, and proceed through the Bulkhead to Rapture Central Control.

Rapture Central Control

WARNING: ALL COLLECTIBLES IN THIS LEVEL ARE MISSABLE. YOU CANNOT RETURN TO THIS LOCATION AFTER COMPLETING IT.

You will start the level by entering a grand foyer with some monologue by Andrew Ryan. Take a left upon starting this level to find Audio Diary #99/122: The Vita Chamber on a desk next to a Vita Chamber. Head to the right side of this room now, go up the stairs, and enter the vent. Follow the vent to its end to reach a wall covered in papers and "Would You Kindly?" spelled out all over it. There will be two Audio Diaries on the desk beneath this wall. Audio Diary #100/122: Mind Control Test is to the left, and Audio Diary #101/122: Baby Status is to the right. Enter the door to your right now, and follow the corridor to finally have your encounter with Andrew Ryan, which is one of the best scenes in video game history. Upon killing him, you will unlock:

You will now be kindly asked by Atlas to place Andrew Ryan's Genetic Key into the Self Destruct Override, so do so. At this point, Atlas will reveal that he was never really Atlas and that he is actually Frank Fontaine. Needless to say, Atlas is also not on your side anymore, so it looks like we'll have to take him down as well. After Fontaine's monologue, the Little Sisters will guide you to safety, and you can actually research these Little Sisters, since they are different from the ones that you save from Big Daddies. Follow them into the vent, and you will end up in Olympus Heights.

Olympus Heights

Upon waking up, you will be given a monologue by Tenenbaum stating that while Fontaine's mind control over you isn't complete, he still has some power over you. These powers will be made evident as we progress through this level. Head upstairs after Tenenbaum's monologue to have a Little Sister open the door for you to the sewers of Olympus Heights. In the back right of this area will be a glowing valve, so pick it up, and follow the arrow to the door. Place the valve on the Gate Crank Socket, and hold cn_A to open the door to Olympus Heights. At this point, Fontaine's mind control will lower your maximum health, and as a warning, Fontaine will continue to do so until you completely overcome his mind control.

Anyway, upon exiting the sewers, turn around, and start following the arrow into the next plaza. Also feel free to kill any splicers around you. Upon entering the Central Bistro Square, there will be a turret in front of you, so hack it. There is also a security camera on the right side of this plaza, so hack that as well. You also probably notice the Big Daddy at this point, so kill him, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Since this is your fifteenth saved Little Sister, you will receive a Teddy Bear at the next Gatherer's Garden. I also bought Tonic #40/53: Speedy Hacker 2. This is also a more efficient tonic of the first and is a must if you have to hack anything this late in the game. I also bought Incinerate 2 and Incinerate 3. I also bought Insect Swarm 3 and Cyclone Trap 2 with my spare ADAM. Turn around from the Gatherer's Garden now, and enter the bar-like area in front of you. On the right side of the counter will be Audio Diary #102/122: Mozart Of Genetics. Follow the arrow out of the plaza and down the railway until you reach what appears to be a railway office. There will be a lot of splicers in this office, so kill them all. There is also a security camera on the left side of the room upon entering, so hack that.

Follow the arrow out of the railway office now, and you should notice another Big Daddy and Little Sister. Kill him, and deal with her. Save her with cn_Y. You'll also now be in the central suite area of Olympus Heights, and there will be a lot of rooms you can enter around this plaza. Our main goal is at the very top through the elevator, but let's deal with the exterior first. Hanging from the ceiling on the left side of the elevator will be a security camera, so hack that. Head behind the barricade now, and you should find Audio Diary #103/122: Fontaine's Human Jukebox within the rubble of the barricade. Follow the arrow into the flooded section of Suchong's apartment, and you will notice one of the few story-related Audio Diaries on the desk. It is Audio Diary #104/122: Mind Control Antidote. Directly next to that will be Tonic #41/53: Clever Inventor. This is one of the most useful tonic in the game, as it lets you invent items for one fewer component than they initially require. This means that hacked U-Invent machines will now require TWO less components than originally needed for each of the items. Definitely equip this tonic, and we will finally be able to invent items at the next U-Invent machine.

Exit Suchong's apartment now, and head across the plaza towards Sander Cohen's apartment. Fontaine will also take away more of your health at this point. Head into the center of Cohen's apartment to find two splicers dancing. Interrupt their tango to get the attention of Sander Cohen himself. Cohen will unlock the door to his personal quarters (This is why we didn't kill him...), and he will emerge from the top of the stairs. Kill him, and take a photo of his corpse to unlock:

Upon looting his body, you will find his Muse key, which will unlock the other locked treasure chest in Fort Frolic. Feel free to head back there if you want some more money and ammunition. If you head upstairs to his personal quarters now, you will unlock:

Found Cohen's Room

Enter Sander Cohen's personal quarters.

If you turn left upon entering his bedroom, you will find Weapon Upgrade Station #9/12. You are now free to exit Cohen's apartment, so do so, and follow the ramp and arrow all the way up to the third floor. There will be a security camera in front of you as soon as you reach the third floor, so I would recommend shooting it. Follow the arrow to another story-related Audio Diary, which is Audio Diary #105/122: Fontaine's Breakup.

Right by this Audio Diary is a U-Invent machine, so hack it, and invent Tonic #42/53: Hacker's Delight 2. This is a more effective version of the first. Also invent Tonic #43/53: Booze Hound. This tonic allows you to gain EVE from drinking alcohol, rather than losing it, so equipping this will make alcohol the equivalent of Pep Bars. Also invent Tonic #44/53: Bloodlust. This tonic allows you to gain health and EVE when inflicting damage with the wrench, which actually makes the other wrench tonics more effective in the process. Now invent one of every type of ammunition to unlock:

Ammo Inventor

Successfully invented all possible ammo types.

Hopefully, you will also have collected enough components to be able to invent 100 items and unlock:

Avid Inventor

Successfully invent at least 100 items.

If you haven't, don't fret, as there is still plenty of time to loot more components. If you reach the final boss and still haven't invented 100 items, I would recommend traveling back to the Farmer's Market, as that seems to be the place with the most components lying around. Splicers will spawn in every re-visited location, although they will be much rarer to find.

The arrow will now lead you into Tenenbaum's apartment so that you can find the Lot 192 Remedy. However, Tenenbaum's apartment has been ransacked, and the Remedy is now missing. You will now be directed to enter the elevator to head to Fontaine's penthouse. Before doing so, however, head back down to the bottom of the plaza after shooting the lock off of Tenenbaum's door. Enter Culpepper's apartment, which is in between Suchong's and Cohen's. Head straight upon entering. To your left will be a security camera, and to your right will be Audio Diary #106/122: Artist Woman on a coffee table.

Now head over to the elevator and use "5744" on the Keypad Lock to enter the elevator. The elevator will now ascend to Fontaine's penthouse. Upon exiting the elevator, you will be ambushed by a large amount of splicers. There is a security camera at the far end of the room, and there is a turret hiding behind the rock in front of you. Hack both of those to give yourself an easier time. Upon killing them, head through the doors ahead of you, and you should notice a large polar bear statue ahead of you by the next flight of stairs. Take a right before ascending these stairs to enter a room with Audio Diary #107/122: Sad Saps on the coffee table ahead of you.

Now head back to the stairs, and take a left to enter the next room. Head down the hallway, and turn left, followed by another left into the next room. On the center desk past the electric traps here will be Tonic #45/53: Electric Flesh 2. This is a more effective version of the first. Facing the chair by this center desk, turn to your right to find the Lot 192. Drink it to finally break free from Fontaine's mind control. However, there are some side effects from taking the Lot 192 in the form of randomly switching which Plasmid you're allowed to have equipped. Looks like you'll have to find another dose of Lot 192 to get back to normal... Head out of Fontaine's penthouse now and into the elevator. Upon exiting the elevator, follow the arrow all the way to Apollo Square, killing all splicers in your way. Enter the Bulkhead to Apollo Square.

Apollo Square

Follow the arrow after exiting the bulkhead to go up some stairs. After going up these stairs, turn to your left to see a toppled vending machine and an open suitcase. Inside the suitcase is Audio Diary #108/122: What's Happening Here?. Follow the arrow through the railway now to find another Big Daddy and Little Sister. You know the drill: Kill the Big Daddy, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Follow the arrow into the next plaza to find a Nitro Splicer lighting a hanging corpse on fire. Turn right from this centerpiece to find a Gatherer's Garden. To the left of the Gatherer's Garden on the ground is Audio Diary #109/122: Atlas Lives.

You will be unable to access the Gatherer's Garden at this time, so follow the arrow across the plaza into another railway. There will be a turret in here, but unless you've been luckily equipped with a variant of Electro Bolt, simply destroy the turret and any splicers around it. There will also be a security camera directly ahead of the turret, Follow the arrow past the railway into the Artemis Suites. There is a security camera at the back of the room here, as well as a lot of splicers to kill. Follow the arrow up the stairs and into Suchong's clinic. Head straight ahead upon entering the clinic, over the electric trap, and into the door on the right. Head to the back right of this bathroom to find Tonic #46/53: Medical Expert 3 by a bloody toilet. This is a more effective version of the other two tonics.

Follow the arrow, destroy the turret, and enter Suchong's main clinic. You'll likely notice the large corpse in the center upon entering, and to the right of said corpse on the ground is Audio Diary #110/122: Protection Bond. To the right of this Audio Diary is a countertop with another dose of Lot 192. Take it to get back to normal and unlock:

Follow the arrow out of Suchong's clinic, down the stairs, into the railway, and back into the main plaza, killing all splicers along your way. Upon entering the plaza, you will be ambushed by three splicers, so kill them. You should also notice a Big Daddy and a Little Sister walking around, so kill him, and deal with her. Save her with cn_Y. This is your eighteenth Little Sister, so you will receive a Teddy Bear gift at the next Gatherer's Garden. Coincidentally, the next Gatherer's Garden is in this same plaza. The Teddy Bear gift will contain 200 ADAM, some ammo, and Tonic #47/53: Prolific Inventor. This tonic allows you to invent twice as many objects as normal. I'm unsure if this counts towards the 100 invented items or not, but regardless, equip this tonic, because who wouldn't want to have double the ammo?!

At the Gatherer's Garden, I bought Winter Blast 3, Target Dummy, and Enrage!. These are all Plasmids. Target Dummy allows you to create a decoy that splicers will attack instead of you, and Enrage! forces a splicer to attack someone other than you. I wouldn't recommend equipping either of these, but we have the ADAM to spare, so equip them if you think they would benefit you.

Follow the arrow now to another railway that eventually leads to the Metro Station. There will be a security camera to your left upon entering the railway. Now head down the railway, killing all splicers, and enjoying having your vision clouded by the apparition sequence. Instead of turning around to head into the metro, though, continue heading straight ahead towards Fontaine's Center for the Poor. Upon entering the orphanage, immediately turn right to find a Steamer Trunk. Open it to find Audio Diary #111/122: Meeting Atlas. Now head upstairs, killing all splicers in your way, and hacking the turret on the balcony.

Continue heading up the stairs until you reach the top floor, and head into the door to enter Atlas' Headquarters. Kill the splicer ahead of you, and follow the room around to find a security camera to hack just above the stairs. Head down the stairs now to find Weapon Upgrade Station #10/12 in front of you and slightly to your right. If you upgrade the same weapon as last time, you will unlock:

Turn around from the Power to the People Station to find a room with a massive hole in the floor. To your right is a desk, which has Audio Diary #112/122: The Longest Con and Tonic #48/53: Focused Hacker 2. This tonic is a more effective version of the first and gives you four fewer overload tiles while hacking. If you are playing the international or German version at this point, have the free DLC, and have bought all DLC tonics, you will unlock:

Tonic Collector

Collect or Invent 53 Tonics in the Physical, Engineering and Combat tracks.

3 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerCollectableMissable

If you are playing the Japanese or Korean version, however, you will have to wait until we actually collect all 53 tonics. The corpse to the right of the two aforementioned collectibles has Audio Diary #113/122: Today's Raid. Also feel free to hack the safe in this room. Drop down the hole in the floor now, kill the splicers, and follow the arrow out of the orphanage and into the Metro Station. Enter the elevator, enjoy another speech from Fontaine, and enter the Bathysphere. Pull the lever to head to Point Prometheus.

Point Prometheus

Fontaine will happily greet you in Point Prometheus by destroying the environment around you. Exit the Bathysphere when he's finished showing off his strength, and head through the doors ahead of you. You'll notice a splicer hacking two security bots, and while these bots will attack you at first, they will quickly deactivate, and you are free to hack them yourself. Follow the arrow into the main room, and Tenenbaum will give a speech informing you to become a Big Daddy. You will now be tasked with looting a dead Big Daddy to find the Suit Control System, so loot the glowing Big Daddy corpse in the far left corner of the room. Directly behind this corpse is Weapon Upgrade Station #11/12.

You will now be tasked with heading to the Little Wonders Educational Facility, so turn left from the corpse, and head through either of the doors here. Head down this hallway, and enter the door at the end to enter the facility. Upon entering, I would recommend that you crouch, because there will be two windows and two turrets looking to shoot them out. Once the turrets have done so, destroy them, and head through the windows to enter the facility. Once inside, you should notice a splicer, a Big Daddy, and a Little Sister. As always, kill the Big Daddy, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y.

At this point, you will be tasked with finding three pheromone samples around the facility. The first one can be found in Room #5 around the area where the Big Daddy was found. From where you entered this location, if you head straight ahead, it is the first door on your left. The second sample can be found by heading straight ahead from where you entered the area. You should notice a door across from a vending machine. If you head inside this door, there will be a security camera, so hack it. Head behind the security camera to find an apparition sequence, as well as a desk at the back of the room. The second sample will be on this desk, as well as Tonic #49/53: Safecracker 2. This is yet another tonic that is a more effective version of its predecessor.

Exit this room now, and head to your right to go up the stairs that lead to the Main Hall. Take a left as soon as you reach the top of the stairs to find the third pheromone sample directly ahead of you on a desk. You should also find Audio Diary #114/122: Why Just Girls? on the desk in front of the one containing the sample. Turn around now to find the door that exits to the Main Hall. Upon entering this door, there will be a security camera just above your head, so hack it. Now head through this door into the actual Main Hall. Head to the right towards Optimized Eugenics, and kill the splicer with the hacked security bot. Directly to the right of the entrance to Optimized Eugenics is a door covered in ice. Melt the ice with Incinerate, and search the trash can directly in front of you to find Audio Diary #115/122: Changing Employers.

Now head into either entrance of Optimized Eugenics. I went into the right entrance. After you are allowed to go through the second door, there will be a security camera directly in front of you, so hack it. The first door on your right will be Live Subject Testing, so enter it. Head to the back of the room to enter Candidate Induction. At this point, you should notice a Big Daddy, so have him call the Little Sister, kill him, and deal with her. Save her with cn_Y. When you entered Candidate Induction, chances are that you noticed Tonic #50/53: Alarm Expert 2 on the file cabinet on the far left side of the room. This is a more efficient version of the first tonic and gives you four fewer alarm tiles when hacking.

You also probably noticed the Voicebox Modification Machine on the far right side of the room upon entering it. Use it to change your voice to that of a Big Daddy's. You will be ambushed by splicers upon doing so, so kill them, and exit back into the main hallway of Optimized Eugenics. The next door on your right upon heading down the hallway will lead to Plasmid Prototyping. On the left side of the room will be a turret, so hack it. Behind the turret will be Audio Diary #116/122: Extra Munitions. Exit this room, and head down the hallway to Eugenic Analysis. There are turrets on either side of this room upon entering, so hack both of them. Head behind the left turret to find Weapon Upgrade Station #12/12 and to unlock:

Acquire all upgrades for all weapons.

Weapon Specialist
3 guidesOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerCollectableMissable

There is also a safe in the back of this room you can hack if you need more ammo. Now exit this room, and continue heading down this hallway to find Test Subject Storage. Immediately upon entering, there is a generator-like object on the right side of this room. On top of it is Audio Diary #117/122: Marketing Gold. Exit this room now, and exit Optimized Eugenics. Head across the balcony to the other side to reach the entrance of Failsafe Armored Security. In front of the entrance is a turret, so hack it. To the left of the turret is a Gatherer's Garden. Buy Tonic #51/53: Human Inferno 2. This is a more effective version of the first. Also feel free to buy the Health and EVE upgrades with your spare ADAM.

Now head into Failsafe Armored Security. Once again, there are two entrances, but this time, I chose the entrance on the left. Head to your left to enter Candidate Induction. You will notice a bunch of Big Daddy helmets in front of you, as well as Tonic #52/53: Hacker's Delight 3 on the left side of the desk directly in front of you upon entering. Equip whichever Big Daddy helmet you want. You will be attacked by a large number of splicers upon equipping the helmet. Now head through the door on the other side of the room to enter the Suit Assembly. There will be a lot of Big Daddy bodysuits hanging from racks, so choose whichever you please. In this area, I also encountered a Big Daddy and Little Sister. Kill the Big Daddy, and deal with the Little Sister. Save her with cn_Y. Since this is the final Little Sister in the game, you will unlock:

Since this is also your twenty-first saved Little Sister, you will receive a Teddy Bear gift at your next Gatherer's Garden. From where you entered the area, go into the door in front of you proceed through this room, and exit out the other door. Now take a left, and head all the way down this hallway. You should see a flooded corridor below you to your left. To your right, however, is a frozen gate. Melt the ice with Incinerate, and on the table to your right will be Audio Diary #118/122: Cheap Son Of A Bitch. If you head back down the hallway to where the previous door was, directly in front of you should be the passageway to Candidate Conversion. If you head down into the central room of Candidate Conversion, you will find two turrets on either side to hack. Head past them to find that the Big Daddy boots have been misplaced. However, you will also find Audio Diary #119/122: Missing Boots on a desk on the far right side of the room.

Now, make sure you exit out of the door WITHOUT an arrow in front of it. This would be the door on the right side of the room if you turn around from the previous Audio Diary. Head up the stairs to your right to enter another room. Head around the machinery to the other side of the machinery to find Audio Diary #120/122: Protector Smell on top of the machinery. Head through the door on the other side of the room, and follow the passageway to another door. Right by the Gene Bank here upon entering this room will be Audio Diary #121/122: Mistakes on some more machinery. Head through the next door, down the next passageway, and through the next door. To your right on a file cabinet immediately upon entering this door will be Audio Diary #122/122: Protecting Little Ones. Since this is the final Audio Diary, you will unlock:

Head into the Genetic Modification Library on the left side of the balcony, and then head into the Mendel Memorial Library on the left side of the hallway. There will be a security camera and a turret to your right upon entering, so hack both of them. Enter the main section of the library to find Tonic #53/53: Damage Research 2 on the counter in front of you. This is a more effective version of the first tonic, so I would recommend equipping both at the same time. If you are playing the Japanese or Korean versions, you will unlock:

The arrow will now direct you to the Gatherer's Vent in the central lobby we entered when we began this level. Call a Little Sister from it by hitting the vent with your wrench. The Little Sister will now walk towards a bulkhead, so follow her to the Bulkhead to Proving Grounds.

Proving Grounds

Welcome to my least-favorite area of the game! This level is essentially a really long and linear escort mission, in which you guide and protect the Little Sister while she performs a gather. Keep in mind that you get to do this like 12 times in the sequel. Because of that, most of my information is going to be fairly basic. You will be attacked by splicers as you walk along to the corpses, and there will be machinery for you to hack, as well as some health stations. You'll always want to keep in mind that your Little Sister has a health bar, and if that health bar fully depletes, you will have to call a new Little Sister to complete the gather. You can actually abuse this system to finish your research for the Little Sister, but you should have completed that by this point in the game.

When the Little Sister reaches the first corpse to gather ADAM from, you will essentially have to defend her by killing all of the splicers that come to attack you at your current location. You will have to perform three gathers before you can take the Little Sister back to the Gatherer's Vent and complete this really annoying escort mission. At this point, you are one elevator ride away from the final boss. Before you face him, however, buy whatever you want from any of the vending machines around you, and use all of your components to invent whatever you want from the U-Invent machine. Buy the Health and EVE upgrades from the Gatherer's Garden. When you are ready to take on Fontaine, grab the ADAM Harvesting Tool from the Little Sister, and head up the elevator to face the final boss. This is also your last point in the game to save, so do so.

Fontaine

Here's the biggest tip I can give for Fontaine: USE THE ELECTRIC GEL ON THE CHEMICAL THROWER. Basically, what this will do is immobilize him while his health goes down really quickly.

Upon going up the elevator, Fontaine will give a monologue. As soon as you are able to exit the elevator, you will notice a highly genetically modified Atlas in front of you, so drain his ADAM with cn_A. At this point, he will attack you, so keep using your Chemical Thrower on him until he returns to his central position. Repeat this another two times. When you drain his ADAM for the fourth and final time, press cn_A, and immediately press cn_start. From here, go to "Options", and change the Difficulty to "Hard". Press cn_start again to exit this menu. Upon killing Fontaine, you will unlock the following for beating the game, beating the game on hard, beating the game on hard without using a Vita-chamber, and beating the game without ever harvesting Little Sisters:
