Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp (WP)

Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp is the Windows Phone rendition of the Toy Soldiers series which was officially released on February 29, 2012. The Toy Soldier series is well known for its real time strategy game-play. However, Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp has no real time strategy but is actually a compilation of three mini-games based around the Toy Soldier universe.

The game is designed with ten achievements total; two achievements tied to each of the three included mini-games, and four more which are based on various tasks which must be done within the game.

In Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp, you can earn most of the game's achievements in any order; very little skill is required. Another benefit to the design of this game is that there are no missable achievements. Determined players can fully complete this game within an hour of game time.

Achievements tied to the minigame, "Flyswatter" are:

DDT

Get a 15x wave combo in Flyswatter.

The achievements in this game require very little effort, except for the "In the Zone" achievement which may require several attempts to unlock.

A majority of the achievements will unlock though natural game-play, but here are some additional tips that may be useful for expediting the completion of this game.

TIP 1:

Persistence

Play a minigame 5 times in a row.

This achievement will most likely unlock when attempting to complete

In The Zone

Get through 20 rings in one go in Thread the Needle.

If the player wishes to expedite unlocking this achievement, simply load the "Thread the Needle" mini-game, launch the rocket right into the first barrier and repeat five times without interruption.

TIP 2:

Perseverance

Complete level 2 challenges for all minigames.

Although the game allows you to build up to level 4, this achievement only requires the player to reach level 2 on all three mini-games. There is no additional in-game reward or achievement for maxing out each game's experience level.

TIP 3:

The three "Secret achievements" in Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp include

Roll Call

Watch the credits.

Firestarter

You can tell which secret achievement you are missing at a quick glance simply by looking at the point value. "Roll Call" is worth 10gs, "Drop and give me 20" is worth 20gs (Note the witty achievement title and unlocking requirements) and "Firestarter" is 30gs.

TIP 4:

Ignore the ammo gauges in the mini-games. You never have to worry about weapon malfunctions, or even reloading in "Flyswatter" and "Cardboard Theater," and you only get one attempt in "Thread the Needle" anyway.

Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp has no actual story mode, and all three mini-games are available right away. This walkthrough will provide insight on each achievement to aid in game completion.

FLYSWATTER:

DDT

Get a 15x wave combo in Flyswatter.

In the mini-game, there will be golden flies lined up with the regular flies and explode when shot. The pattern of the flies never changes, regardless of how many times the mini-game is played. This achievement will most likely unlock through natural gameplay, but memorizing the flight pattern and exclusively targeting golden flies will assure that this achievement will become one of the easier ones to unlock.

Drop and Give Me 20

Shoot down the bugzapper in Flyswatter.

In the left side of the background, you can see a bug zapper trap. Shoot for the chain holding the flyswatter to fulfill the achievement requirements.

Thread the Needle:

Rocket Star

Get 4 stars in a row in Thread the Needle.

Rocket Star

For this achievement, you will be required to puncture four consecutive stars. Each ring has a segment in which a star exists and the rocket must pass through the star in order to receive credit. The player can meet the requirements at any time during the mini-game, but it would be much easier to get this achievement on the initial start in which the target stars are larger and slower to rotate. Controlling the rocket at the slowest speed will allow more time for maneuvering between rings as well.

In The Zone

Get through 20 rings in one go in Thread the Needle.

In The Zone

This achievement may be the most problematic of the set and requires the player to successfully maneuver the fired rocket through 20 consecutive rings. The aspect that makes this task difficult is that your rocket gets progressively faster and the segments within the rings get smaller the farther it travels. The most efficient strategy to tackle this challenge is to focus the rocket around the center of the rings to minimize the required movement from one segment to the next. As the speed of the rocket builds, there will be less time to adjust so using this strategy assists with the shrinking window of opportunity. This achievement will pop after the 20th consecutive ring passed has registered.

As this achievement requires the most skill of the achievement list, the player will most likely earn the, "Persistence" achievement in the process.

Persistence

Play a minigame 5 times in a row.

Cardboard Theatre:

"Thrill Cam" is activated when you hold the trigger button down, which causes the player's perspective to switch to a first person view to control the fired rocket. The player earns the achievement by utilizing the Thrill Cam from the inital firing of the rocket to the successful destruction into any paper target.

Firestarter

Hit the fireplace in Cardboard Theater.

Firestarter

From the firing point, the fireplace can be located on the far left of the actual room, OUTSIDE the cardboard box firing range. When in "Thrill Cam," the rocket can be manually controlled out of the confines of the cardboard box. To earn this achievement, the rocket must be controlled manually and successfully explode in the fireplace, igniting the logs within. To get there, the player can get there using two ideal routes: The player can either face 180 degrees away from the range, facing through the keyhole, and maneuver around the right or manually control the rocket over the left most barrier for the same results.

After one completed game of Carboard Theatre, the "Tour of Duty" achievement will unlock, provided you have played the other two mini-games prior.

Tour of Duty

Play all 3 minigames.
